My first tête-bêche binding, my first octavo, and my first time working with leather. This is a combination of two Star Wars fics I've adored for years, and which I nearly always read as a pair, so this combo seemed really natural. The stories are 'Wonderterror' by Peradi and 'Luke Skywalker. 19. Full Human.' by Samvelg. They both explore the premise of the Skywalkers as Eldritch creatures as a result of Anakin's (lack of) parentage, and they are amazing. I made an effort to reach out to both these authors for permission but received no response; if either of them request that this post be taken down, I will of course do so. But as this is a personal book for my own collection that will not be sold or distributed, I felt that showing it off was fair.

Printed on legal paper, font is Uni Neue(body text), Gearus (titles, headers, cover text), and Typographer Caps (drop caps). Images are composited from standard star wars and kraken/cthulhu conography, which is duplicated on the covers (with nearly invisible black squiddies underlying the flashy star wars logos, love how subtle they came out). Typeset in Affinity. Covers in black fairly low grade cow leather with HTV, endpapers printed from an image found in rawpixel's public domain archive, and headbands sewn on. Specifically made the bookmark ribbon long enough to run through the book twice, to potentially mark places in both fics at once.

Finally finished the Archivist cardigan, ton of shit happened that delayed the making of it (I’ll talk about it when I’m ready) but it’s finally done!!!!

One of the minor details that no one's really going to notice but do give it away as a TMA cardigan are the pockets. I used some eye-conography in them and gave them a raised relief

It's not entirely visible but it is tactile

piece for school! my writeup for it, and sources, under cut.

The assignment was to make a collage of yourself.

I wanted to mess with themes of science and religion as complimentary processes, not opposites. Here's a poem that inspired this piece that I couldn't figure out how to work in, which is attributed to Brian May in this tumblr post but that I can't find anywhere besides that post.

"When I had a couple of serious bouts of depression in my life the stars were a big factor in pulling me out. People used to say 'what is your spirituality?' and I'd say I don't know, but I found out looking at the stars one night that that's what it was."

bonus for tumblr: the ASL included (which i wanted as a tie in to the catholic hand symbols used in classic iconography) means transgender. obviously being transgender ties very strongly into the link between spirituality and the body and science.

TMA: Questions about Eyes (?)

okay so like do you guys think if melanie or

anyone else who gouged out their eyes were to put in prosthetic eyes that it would re-establish their connection to the eye???

like hypothetically if melanie put pink sparkly eyes into her eye sockets would elias be forced to see the world with a girlypop filter if he looked through them????

and for that matter how abstract can an eye be before elias can't see through it? we know that the eyes can be symbolic but how far does that go?

like what about children's drawings?? if you drew a bunch of smiley faces do those count? is the fact that the artist drew the dots with intent of them being eyes the only part the matters? or do the eyes have to resemble the classic iconography (ha eye-conography) of an eye with at least a pupil or iris?

anyway I think it would be really funny if elias's vision was affected by the symbolic eyes he looks through. like he looks through the eyes of a kids drawing and everything looks like crayon scribbles with fucked up proportions and wacky colours

yo vince do you know anything about eye-conography. i keep finding this weird eye around celadon that i feel like you'd be interested in.

is this that thing you found recently??? because ive been seeing it too, someone tagged the bridge i walk to work on with it. it's real spooky, that's for sure

they started popping up about a year and a half ago but theyve really started showing up outside of saffron recently. i definitely think theres something to investigate there, urban-explorer style. theres an old hangout spot under the bridge where i found it i bet we could find something there

I'm counting it. It's just... weird. If he wanted to convince Ed he's dead, he could have shot the ceiling and slumped over.

Hell. I'd be satisfied if Izzy was just loopy on meds/pain, so he missed, and the writers wanted a shock for the audience on the first watch during the storm scene. Izzy wants to die, but finding the strength to live to save his crew is just...so much. I love it. I cradle it to my chest. Top moment of the season so far.

(The other thought that's hurting me right now is due to the fact he shot the gun right next to his ear he didn't hear Ed's confession. So he thinks Ed just doesn't care about him at all 🙃)
