Hello, every birdie!

Today's post is going to be a little bit different. Because I don't have a computer right now I am working on my Amazon Kindle. I still want to write and share some recipes with you. So that is what I am going to do. We are going to doing more recipes that don't use the oven. Because if you are anything like me you still want sweets in the summer time, but you don't want to turn on the oven. Because if your oven is anything like mine, it will heat up the house. So in the this series we are going to be using a bunch of my appliances that I have in the kitchen. My redneck neighbor Doug's interpretations on various 'Bad Batch' characters

So, it turns out my neighbor Doug, who lives next to me, is a MASSIVE Star Wars nerd. Hooray! Found this out earlier during a snow storm. He was thrilled when he found out my kids and I watch this show together, and had some...brilliant...insights on how he interprets the show. I'll be dropping some of the wildest descriptions here from time to time.

This was months ago, but damn it, it was so wild how this chubby Cajun Boomer described the show. I'm going to drop some of his best gems that he's texted me since January:

Crosshair: "So that there's Daddy Warcrimes. All you need to know is he lives on beer and Slim Jims, has more guns then Jesus got faith, and that he does your mom on the weekends, and then you thank him for his service."

Hunter: "Aw man, we got Rambo up in this place. Daddy Rambo. He looks like he's got some hot wife with a huge butt who makes amazing biscuits, but he only showers on the weekends for reasons he won't tell you."

what's this about changing your stove? and does this mean you're back to a fullsize oven?

I got a new stove-oven a few months back! I do indeed now have a full sized oven, which is mainly what I'm now using to cook in when I need an oven, unless it's small in which case the toaster oven still works fine. The stove still mostly serves as a workspace (it's one of those flat glass-topped electric ranges) but it is nice to be able to use more of my pans -- my huge deep saucepan that I use for frying didn't work on the induction burner, for example.

I mentioned offhandedly to one of my coworkers that I'd gotten a new oven and it was nice to have a full-sized one again, and she looked at me and said "But you brought bread to work like, twice a month. Were you baking that bread in a toaster oven?" and I was like "....well, it was a convection toaster oven" and she lost her mind laughing.

These Sicilian-style pork meatballs, from Made in Sicily by Giorgio Locatelli, have been a weekend staple in my kitchen for years, but I’ve never written about them on the blog with a formal recipe, which is ridiculous because they’re good and they’re simple and they can be roasted in a convection toaster oven, which means it’s a win for summer weather in my book. 

(I also think that fresh bay leaves are now more readily available than they were when I first got this book, which was probably why I hesitated to write about it before; if I can’t get my hands on a crucial ingredient for a recipe, then I’m not actually making that recipe.)
