He’d be safe there, and with any luck, he could then decide what he wanted to do with his life. He knew you wouldn’t ask Law to stay with you if Law didn’t want to. You were good at reading the kid like that.

Law was a smart cookie. He’d probably activate his Devil Fruit powers in an hour from now on and heal himself within a minute. Rosinante knew it. He believed in it.

Rosinante isn’t worried about anything, he isn’t afraid. He is grateful. He is so grateful to be here, in this moment, on the side he considers right.

Not on the marines’ side. Not on the pirates’ side.

On Law’s side. He was Law’s Corazón now, not Doflamingo’s.

You said such to him yourself. Law saw Rosinante as his guide, Law trusted him, had faith in him, just like you did. Law had become a part of Rosinante’s family, your small family Rosinante was the patriarch of, the protector of. Rosinante wasn’t fighting for the marines now, or for the pirates. He was fighting for a sick little boy because nobody else would, nobody else wanted to, nobody else thought to, except him and you.

You had guided him and supported him to become the man he is today, catching him by the hand before he could trip and fall the same way his brother did. 

He remembered the first time you tried to teach him how to dance with him, and he ended up stepping on both your feet. 

“I’m so sorry! Please give me another chance.”

You told him, “Just enjoy the dance.” before pulling him into your first dance together, and he did as you asked, letting his legs follow the beat and the song, and it turned out okay. He never stepped on your feet again.

Six months later, he was dancing with you every day in the living room of the house the two of you called home, pulling you into a dance on the field of blue forget-me-nots, your sweet, soft laughter caressing his ears.

Because of you, Rosinante knew he’d never lose his way. Because if he did, you’d set him straight, grip his hand so he doesn’t fall apart. 

You were the flag Rosinante carried in his heart.

He felt so lucky to have you. He was the clumsiest, luckiest man on the planet. He never thought his clumsiness would bring him to you.

Rosinante was happy. Donquixote Rosinante was the happiest man on earth. He didn’t need any treasure, or an army, or a country, or immortality, or the world. None of those things could ever make him happy as living with you and Law did.

And Rosinante realised it then; it was that Doflamingo lacked. He had a family, but he also didn’t. For a moment, Rosinante pitied his brother, even though his brother had done it to himself. To live without experiencing pure happiness, genuine happiness, without hurting anyone to attain it… 

It must hurt, Doffy. thought Rosinante sadly. You must be lonely.

Rosinante looks at his older brother, and for the last time, there is a pang of pain in his heart at the sight of what his older brother has become. 

Rosinante pulled out the pistol, aiming it at his big brother — at Doffy, at Doffy — pulling back the safety pin, knowing very well he wouldn’t press the trigger, and knowing very well his brother would.

Rosinante really wished he’d gotten to dance with you one more time.

Hi there! I actually already asked you something about your Rosi AU in the past, and now I have another one! I guess it's a bit less about the AU but more of a mix of this AU and the canon event in the op story - I was wondering with myself just today what would have happened if the canon law would have met Rosi from your AU and he would have known his past as a slave and all of this, and I guess the best one to answer this question is you! Because it's your AU and all :3 Honestly I just wanna hear your thoughts about this 🙏💞

Uhhh, sorry it took me so long to answer, but honestly, I thought about it a lot and… it’s still hard. I can’t really give you a clear answer. My mind keeps swinging from one thought to another — I can’t seem to hold it still.

I think Law would be furious first. He idolized Corazon — he was his savior, a new kind of family member. Not exactly a father, not exactly a brother… just something entirely different. So meeting a Cora-san who was abused and tortured by the Celestial Dragons, and abandoned by the government and the Marines? It wouldn’t make Law like them any more, that’s for sure.

What might be more interesting is the realization that this version of Cora-san actually loves his brother.

I can kind of imagine Rosinante opening his wallet and showing Law pictures of the kids and Doffy, while Law is desperately trying to convince him that Doflamingo is BAD. The worst.

And Rosinante’s just like, “I don’t know, Law… someone tried to shoot me two days ago and now they’re sleeping with the fishes. So… Doffy’s kind of the bestest brother? He feeds the kids three times a day, makes sure everyone trains, and barely even talks about his godlike status anymore.”

It would be really strange for Law to realize how a ‘small’ change could make such a huge difference. Because Doflamingo wouldn’t exactly be good, but he wouldn’t be as insane as he is in canon either. And to know that Rosinante’s place in the Donquixote family is honest — that there’s no hidden agenda, just genuine brotherly love and a desperate wish to make up for all the lost years — that would hit hard.

And honestly, there’s something kind of heartbreaking about how emotionally unequipped Doflamingo is.

He doesn’t know how to handle affection, how to ask for care without feeling exposed. So when he’s hurt — and he does get hurt — he lashes out. He says cruel things, acts like he doesn’t care, like he’s above it all… but it’s all defense.

You can see it in canon, too — how deeply Corazon’s “betrayal” affected him. That wasn’t cold anger. That was pain. And the only way he knows how to deal with pain is by striking first, striking hard, and pretending it didn’t matter.

But it did matter. It always does.

But in this AU, his second Corazon — his little brother — never confirms his fears. Rosinante speaks his mind, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when he disagrees. He tries to talk Doffy out of things, argues with him, challenges him… but he never abandons him. Not truly. Not ever.

So it would be strange for Law to see a different kind of Doflamingo — one who actually trusts his brother. Still so, so much Doflamingo in every way… and yet, somehow, a better man.

It would be unsettling to realize how much could have changed if Corazon had shown just a little more love. If he had seen more than just the monster — if he had believed that his brother was still worth saving.

And in the end… I think it would quietly break something in Law to realize that this Cora-san — the one who trusted his brother — survived Minion Island. Because I imagine it still plays out almost the same: he gets the Ope Ope no Mi, he saves Law… But this time, he lives. He stays. He’s there.

And suddenly, they have something they never had before — time. Time to breathe, to heal, to figure things out. They’re not running anymore. They don’t have to, because the Donquixote family is still theirs. And maybe that’s what hurts the most: that something as simple as faith could have changed everything.

All of these would be cool angsty fics. BUT:

Cora lives and reader lives: Fucking hilarious. Like obviously there's the trauma, but afterwards, you just know those two would be the most embarrassing coolest, most supportive parents to Law, especially in his pirate career. The absolute epitome of "You're doing amazing sweetie".

(Plus imagine the comedy of a new crew member bursting into Law's office and being like "There's intruders, I saw them in the kitchen" and Law's just like "......you mean....my parents?")

The way I have a need to write each of those scenarios. I obviously have a preference (happily ever after, of course). I have semi-written a plot with my "Donquixote Rosinante's Journey with Modern Slang" dialogue for my preference of the "how".

It would be amazing to explore this with a "they both died" becoming a "they both live" and are now tasked with 'parenting' an adult son that's the same age (or older) than them. Could you imagine how hilarious that would be?

Them both trying so, so hard to relate to their boy while giving him space enough to be his own man.
