I've got projects to catch up on and a half-written fic but now I'm thinking of a whole other fic
Because like yeah personally I don't ship Dream & Calliope in the Now Times (something something a relationship that was certainly meaningful at some time and now then can forgive and heal but to do that they don't need to get back together) but what I do love is a little genre called comedia de enredos so what I'm thinking is Dream and Calliope spending some time together to patch things up and allow themselves to heal, and this happens with a bit of prompting from Hob ("how to herd your feral cat towards civil relations with his exwife") BUUUUT this is in a context where Hob and Dream are still Just Friends Ignoring 600+ Years of Homoerotic Subtext
And so maybe through the power of sunshine smiles Hob convinces his feral cat and an actual Greek Muse to have lunch in the New Inn, he can be there for emotional support or whatever, and everything goes pretty smoothly, Hob ends up doing most of the talking cause this man Cannot, I repeat, Cannot Keep His Mouth Shut, but Calliope loves the stories this human tells and Dream is full on heart-eyes, tiny smiles as always
And then when Hob stands up to go to the bar and get more drinks (and inevitably gets momentarily distracted by an argument about literally anything), Calliope leans over to Dream like "You love this one!!!!" and Dream first tries denial and then the old "Endless and mortal relationships" spiel, of course neither work, Calliope insists that "You need to allow yourself to be happy again, Oneiros."
Obviously, because the narrative needs it that way, Hob returns just at the right time to hear Calliope say something like "At least consider it. I've missed seeing you smile" with her hand over Dream's and his internal monologue immediately becomes "This is what happens when you don't make a move in 600 years, the amazing and gorgeous exwife returns, it's game over for you, pal, good luck trying to compete with an actual goddess"
And so comedia de enredos ensues with Hob trying to not act distant while heartbroken and Dream deciding to follow Calliope's advice while not understanding while Hob is being Weird all of a sudden

I tend to think a lot about Sol as a character - sorry guys Caldwells cartoonish bugs bunny daffy duck charms are my favorite so I knew I was going to love Sol the moment I met him - so Sol often occupies my mind.
I love ducklycule because of just how obvious it is that they care so much about each other. They aren’t complete unless all three of them are together. Sol and Calder defend Callie all the time, try to cheer her up. Calder would do anything for Callie and Sol, he sacrificed himself so that they would be safe. Sol and Callie’s immediate focus was to get Calder back. Jake and Emily mentioned in the most recent mixed bag heartside chat that if Sol got taken by Alexandrite it would have severely changed Callie and Calder’s characters because Sol was the most optimistic of them. Like I know all the naddpod pcs would do anything for eachother (besides maybe bon freres and trinyvale triplets ngl) but ducklycule holds a special place in my heart their soulmateism is off the roof.
I started this out saying I think about Sol, because I do. I think about how before anything, before Albin, Sol was just alone. And then he wasn’t- and I know its a cute thing and that he holds it with pride but he was ‘just’ a sidekick guy for a long time. I think this is where I get a lil fanon-y or headcanon-y whatever its called but I indulge myself in my silly little thoughts about this silly frog!!! This stuff might not be the most accurate to canon!!! IDC!!!
But I just think it’s neat to think about Sol not only standing on the same ground as others for the first time but being valued the way that Calder and Callie value him. Like I dunno just throwin the idea out there of perhaps maybe Sol feeling a little nervous about where he stands with the two perhaps sometimes thinking they look better together just the two of them than with Sol tagging along. Like he’s just the sidekick of two beautiful people who deserve each other and he’s just lucky to be at their side. And then Calder and Callie just immediately showing how not true that is with their actions- like how in the most recent episode they held Sol’s hand to imbue Aryox’s power. And how Callie just understood Sol’s Goonola (trademark pending) markers. And how they wouldn’t be the same without him. I know some of these were bits but Im the kinda guy that gets given an inch and takes a mile!!!!
All in all, viva ducklycule I care about them so much and especially Sol and sometimes a guys just gotta imagine up a hurt/comfort scenario in his head. Thinking abt writing abt it, who knows!!! Would love to hear yall’z ducklycule hcs gimmie plz

Hob, Dream, and their dead sons
I keep coming back to the fact that both Hob and Dream had a wife they loved and lost and a son who died as a young man.
And you can see that Tom Sturridge as Dream knew that, knew the full story of Dream, because it's there in his eyes in the scenes with Hob. It's there in his performance when Hob first shows the tiny portrait of his wife and son in 1589. For most of that scene, you can tell Dream's distracted, even repelled by Hob's excesses in favor of Shaxberd's poetry. The one time he pays undivided attention to Hob is when he brings out the portrait of his family and you see--not jealousy--but perhaps fear, or fearful anticipation of the pain he knows Hob will go through as an immortal in a few short decades at most. Dream does not warn Hob--I don't think Hob would have listened anyway-- but he knows what's coming.
In 1689, when Hob has lost everything, it's not until he talks about losing his wife and son that Dream's expression goes from concerned to grief-stricken.
"My boy Robyn, died in a tavern brawl when he was twenty, I didn't go out much after that..." Hob says. That is when Dream begins to see himself in the tragedies of Hob's life. It's not a stretch to imagine that Dream became a recluse after Orpheus's death* when he also separated from his wife Calliope because of the grief they felt.
That's what makes Hob's next declaration so stunning for Dream. He has hated every second of the last 80 years and so Dream asks him, "So, do you still wish to live?"
There are tears in Dream's eyes when he asks this. He thinks he knows the answer because he has been exactly where Hob is now. And one gets the sense that were he not one of the Endless, he would have ended it back then. It's clear the grief nearly destroyed him, that he still carries it, visibly, in every part of him.
But instead, Hob says, "Are you crazy?" And Dream frowns in surprise. "Death is a mug's game. I got so much to live for!"
Dream is stunned. Impressed. Thoughtful. I don't think it's a stretch to wonder: is this what Death intended when she introduced Dream to a man with such a strong will to live? For this exact moment when, weighted by the inevitable tragedies of trying to live as a normal man while immortal, Hob shows Dream how to continue on, how to choose life over and over again, not out of obligation or duty, but because he by just being alive has so much to live for?
And one final note on the loss of their sons, the revelation paints nuances into the picture of Roderick Burgess begging that Dream bring his son back to life. Not only does he ask for what is not Dream's to give, he asks for what Dream, the brother of Death, could not even give himself.
(*Calliope refers to Orpheus as dead in the show. The comic does complicate this statement somewhat, but for the purpose of this meta, I'm separating the tv show canon from comic canon as they are different stories.)

You know, I feel like Kratos forgetting Calliope’s song was a wee bit harsh on the part of the writers.
I think his explanation of how he would’ve given up everything for a few moments more with his daughter, but when he met Faye, found the world worth living in again, would’ve been enough. Imo that illustrates his journey well in of itself.
To add onto that that when he found his new family, he could no longer recall Calliope’s song (played on the flute he made for her)…I dunno, it doesn’t make me think, ‘oh look at Kratos’s growth and development’ as I’m sure the writers intended. I understand the symbolism they were aiming for, but honestly it just made me sad
It’d be different if he was struggling to remember just due to the passing of time, but the fact he says he forgets it specifically after meeting Faye changes the meaning imo.
Kratos could remember his daughter’s song - presumably her favourite, that she played often, if it stuck in his memory - just because he loves her. To remember doesn’t intrinsically mean he’s haunted by it. memories of, and a love for, his Grecian family isn’t inherently negative, or something that has to be ‘let go of’ for him to progress as a character.
