6. How do they react to the realization that they like the other character? Is it an “oh my god I’m never going to think about this again” thing, or are they pretty comfortable with it?

They talk it out. The realization starts dawning on them at roughly the same time, and they're both forthright individuals(:D). Jorgan might've been the one to bring it up, but Keme was getting close to doing so herself after that conversation about sniping skills. :3 The only thing that makes it tricky is her being his CO; while they're definitely on the same page attraction-wise, it might look questionable to higher-ups or outsiders, so they know they have to be careful in that regard. But yeah, they're both comfortable with their attraction.

9. What do they think about commitment? Is a long-term partnership the goal? Are they thinking about building a life with their partner, or are they focused on the present?

Some of both? They are committed to each other, Keme's all in til her last breath as soon as they make things official, and I can't see Jorgan feeling much different. They want a life together, long term (Cathar mate for life and "I keep my promises" and "it'll take an army to pull me away from you"), but with the current state of the galaxy they're also very cognizant of the need to enjoy each day as it comes bc you don't know how many you'll get.

12. How much independence do they prefer in a relationship—do they want to share their lives as much as possible with their partner, or do they prefer to mostly do their own thing and let their partner do their own thing?

They're fairly independent. They do things together, they do things apart. While five year separations are a bit extreme(ARCANN), they're both fine if the other wants to spend the day doing their own things rather than together. Belonging to the same unit means they don't have to worry about deployment schedules keeping them apart, so they have gotten very accustomed to the other being... in arm's reach, if not right there watching their six.

I admit I personally prefer showing characters interact with each other and allowing their interaction to be interpreted as either romantic, platonic, or even nothing at all.

I think this approach makes relationships less framed by "signpost cues" of friendship/attraction/love (not that I do not enjoy seeing these either). I think it leaves more room for interesting human interactions, independent of what expectations the reader has for the two characters. Some people seem to search for actions like kissing, hugging, confessions, in order to confirm whether something was supposed to be romantic or not. But then, the absence of such cues make them arrive at conclusions that ignore other forms of relationship-building interactions all together :(

So for me, it's Schroedinger's character relationships, with a generous amount of "the true value of this relationship is the collection of interactions we have made along the way" and it doesn't need a name. So with that out of the way:

Since I'm just a tad excited for 7.3 dropping tomorrow, we'll go with Endrali(/Arcann) :3

13. What is their go-to for making a partner feel loved?

Arcann is Endrali's first romantic partner, but it's honestly very similar to what she does for friends; listen and offer encouragement when she feels like he needs it, be open about how much she enjoys/values his company. She also has a bunch of Zakuulan touches to the decorations in her stronghold(what I can afford to do at least, those suckers are pricey). Basically just make him feel included and integral to her life bc that's what he is now.

And I'm v firmly attached to the headcanon that Arcann is good at working with his hands, so he does things like making her armor or repairing one of her holocrons.

14. What makes them feel loved? Would they build up the courage to ask for it?

Quality time is absolutely Endrali's love language(noooo the last several months with her man halfway across the galaxy haven't been hard at aLL), both showing and receiving, so just being willing to spend time with her and do things together is good for her. Also good sex.

She would be perfectly comfortable asking for it if that was every necessary, but since Arcann is more than happy spending time with her, and they always seem to default to each other's company, that's a need that's being fulfilled without her having to ask.

The same is basically true for Arcann; the things that would make him feel loved are the things Endrali is already doing to show she loves him. I don't think he'd say anything if that desire wasn't being met, though. He'd see the deficit as something he deserves, believe that he doesn't have the right to ask for her to show she loves him.

20. When would they say “I love you?” Do they say it first? Do they say it often, or is it reserved for special moments?

Endrali would say it once she realized someone was special to her in a way that's different from friendship, very likely coupled with physical attraction. Arcann's the first/only time she's been in love, so it's hard to judge if there'd be a more general threshold, as opposed to just specifically how things go for them. She is the first one to actually say The L Word. Arcann keeps phrasing it as, like, "you know what you mean to me" and "I care about you", like he doesn't feel right being that bold. Even after she's told him she feels the same. So she has to actually say the sentence "Arcann, I love you". Renders him completely speechless for a solid 5 minutes, and seems to break whatever barrier he'd put on himself.

Actually saying it in those words is something that gets saved for special moments, yes. Endrali is, however, a big fan of saying she loves you in a dozen different ways, from telling you to be safe, stay warm/cool(location dependent, lol), low-key fussing over your wellbeing, basically. The words I love you carry something approaching reverence for the two of them, though she does call him 'love' as an endearment with some frequency.
