I had this weird dream where Rocky and Freckle got into a accident with another gang, Mordecai was a ''mad'' scientist that brought Rocky back to life while using his cousins body parts.
really odd dream but kinda liked the Frankenstein type of story behind it so decided to draw them real quick

Fun Vikdecai scenario for you
and by "fun" I mean pure angst
After the events of the Pilot its not hard to imagine Ivy giving Viktor more details about the trio''s "successful" rum run and their encounter with Marigold. Whether to brag or because Viktor wants to know exactly how much danger she was in.
Tumblr media
She might mention the moment when she looked over her shoulder and it looked like Mordecai had his gun aimed right at her, and maybe she was seeing things, but she could swear it looked like he had the shot but lowered the gun
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Viktor pauses for a moment but casually dismisses the idea. Mordecai is a traitor and backstabber etc. Shot his partner of over six years in the knee and went to work for their biggest rivals just after Atlas died and the grass started looking greener on the Marigold side.
Tumblr media
Plus Ivy still has that wide eyed optimism about her, so of course she is going to read kinder intentions into what could have been a simple matter of the car being too far away or the gun jamming etc.
He doesn't think too much about it after that. Eventually, after recovering just about enough from his injury from the pig farmer attack, Viktor insists to Mitzi that he go with the two crazy noodle armed cousins instead of Ivy.
Mitzi is reluctant but knows when Viktor isn't going to budge, and so she agrees on condition that he not try and throttle Rocky or Ivy's boyfriend while on the job.
The terms are accepted.
Begrudgingly.
Tumblr media
But the inevitable happens, and of course, they have a run-in with Marigold.
This is a nightmare for Mordecai.
This is exactly what wounding Viktor's knee was supposed to prevent. He can't let the Savoys go after Viktor, but even if he manages to get them to focus on the two crazy amateurs, Mordecai won't be able to get away with just wounding him and then leaving him be like the kneecapping incident, because the Savoys will want to finish the job, and what reason could he give them for refusing?
Killing Viktor is clearly not an option. He couldn't do it to Ivy and there is no way he can do it now. Betraying his trust, the years of always having each others backs, and the unlikely bond they shared when he left Lackadaisy, had been hard enough. However much he told himself it was "for his own good".
Now either Viktor or his invesitgation into Atlas's death are doomed. Likely both.
He has to try and force Viktor to retreat. He fires warning shots close enough for Viktor to feel the bullets fly past him but just miss his large frame.
Viktor knows how deadly Mordecai is at range and considering what limited weapons Viktor is working with surely the stubborn and still visibly injured and slower moving Ox for once will do the sensible thing!?
But there's a problem with that strategy. Viktor knows Mordecai. More specifically, he knows how well he shoots. He has seen him hit much less tall and broad targets in much more difficult circumstances without breaking a sweat, but here he is missing multiple shots? That's when what Ivy said months before comes back to him.
He knows Mordecai is missing those shots on purpose.
Tumblr media
What the hell happens now?
Mordecai can't retreat but has no idea what to do either with Viktor clearly not backing off, while Viktor is not only too stubborn to do so but now knows Mordecai is trying not to shoot him. Does he take the opportunity to confront him? Get out from behind any cover and just start walking with as strong and determined a pace as his bad knees will allow? Does he want to pull Mordecai's head off his body, get payback for his knee, demand an explanation why someone he considered a friend betrayed him?
All the while, Mordecai is getting more and more panicked with every heavy step.

can I please request for a Mordecai Heller x female reader? like reader is a showgirl who sings on stage like Mitzi one and tends to attract a lot of attention but backs out when they feel this murdercat plotting their death lmao. thank you 😁
heyo! I decided to do a looot of the cats for this one, since its p similar to my Peaky Blinders Jazz Singer post that I was fond of. GN Reader.
Being a Jazz Singer & Performer!
Rocky - When he was hired and met you for the first time, it was absolutely an "infatuation at first sight" situation. Pros!: He's unfailingly polite and sweet, he seems to play with even more energy when you two share a stage, his grin is very off-putting to creeps who shout up at the stage and harass you. Cons: He can get quite distracted when you two share a stage. Many times Zib has had to pull him back with the rest of the band, because he keeps unintentionally scooting closer to you.
The worst part of the Lackadaisy falling onto hard times is the fact you rarely worked there now - you had to sing at other clubs to make ends meet. One of Rocky's big motivators for getting the club back to its old self is you'd come back! Forever this time! (Probably). Rocky doesn't exactly have the time or money to visit the other clubs you work at, so he wants all of your attention during your infrequent visits to the Lackdaisy.
Freckle - Look, he's a shy kid, and the whole 'sneaking out under cover of night to do bootlegging/torpedo shenanigans' is still new. He doesn't have a lot of experience or frame of reference for what a good club singer is like, but Freckle thinks you've got to be one of the best. You have to be, right? Your voice is wonderful and you look positively celestial under the stage lights - wait, that's weird to think, right? Thank God he didn't say it out loud. ... He didn't, right?
Freckle hasn't the slightest idea of how to approach you, so it's up to Ivy and his cousin to drag him over and attempt conversation. It's... a little pitiable, but he's trying. That said, he's surprisingly outspoken and a little scary if someone tried to mess with you while you performed. You're used to the heckles and catcalls, but it's shocking to see that shy tabby jump up from his seat and raise his voice at them.
Ivy - She liked you from the moment she first saw you perform at the Lackdaisy, and that crush hasn't dulled over the months. She maaaay have kept a few posters that advertised the clubs you sang at, and may or may not have cajoled her way into those clubs so she could watch the show. She could easily sweet talk her way to backstage, too - seems you've got a fan.
When the Lackadaisy goes downhill, it's Ivy who wants to sweet talk you into returning. You'll bring in a crowd! The acoustics are great! Pretty pleeease? Her dad Ivy will pay you and not get in trouble until months later when the family accountant goes over the finances. Obviously she cares about the club's wellbeing, but she also wants to spend time with you! Though she's bold enough to just ask you outright. She's also bold enough to outright shout and fight anyone whose heckling you - throwing a heel is a favorite tactic.
Viktor - You're someone he saw often in the olden days, back when the club could afford to have you perform several times a week rather than once a month. Viktor never cared much for the cacophony the crowd and music made, though he knew objectively you were an excellent performer. Rather than endure the crowd, he'd listen to your voice drift across the caves backstage, rehearsing with the band or just by yourself. It was pleasant to listen to, and he could do so in private, either coming back from a job or about to go on one.
Once things began to fall apart, it's not as though he went around to clubs ... or anywhere, really. So if you stopped performing at the Lackadaisy, you might never see each other again. Choosing to stay (or at least do a few pity gigs) would lead to the surprising sight of the big, morose Slav working behind the bar and watching from there, rather than his previous hideouts. It's a little intense to be under that stare... but not all unpleasant? And given how sparse the crowd is, anyone making trouble and catcalling will get dealt with so promptly, they won't even have time to finish their wolf whistle.
Zib - Well, obviously he's going to be drawn in by an attractive singer. Come on. Zib can be smooth when he wants, chainsmoker-scent and rumpled clothes aside. The band likes to tease him mercilessly about it, but that doesn't stop him from cozying up while you two perform together and shooting his shot backstage after every show. Back when the Lackadaisy was thriving, he could afford to hang out at the other clubs you performed at; nowadays, though, that's not so likely.
Even so, starting up a friendship or even fling wouldn't be difficult. He's attracted to and interested in creative spirits, doubly so if you two had very different taste (so there's more to discuss!) and you got on well with the rest of the band. Late-night debates about this musician or that show over a game of cards and several bottles of wine, either together or with the rest of the boys, and waking up half-dressed and seriously hungover come sunrise. Opportunities for visiting would dwindle as the Lackadaisy's business dried up, though if you stayed on ... No, he wouldn't want that for you. If anything you'd be mentioning to him and the band that there's other places to perform to pay the bills. Well, it'd be food for thought.
Wick - Wick wouldn't call himself a music aficionado, especially what's listened to at these rowdy speakeasies, but he won't deny how hard it was to focus on his business associates when you were on stage. So when he discovered you often performed at his favorite club, it was a pleasant surprise. He really wanted to speak with you at some point, at least compliment the performance, but didn't want to come off as those typical entitled wealthy guys who get too fresh with ""lower"" class performers ... so sometimes you'd find flowers in the dressing room and an anonymous note of appreciation.
He finally gets a conversation when you're a guest at a posh party he's attending, or when you continue to perform at the Lackadaisy in spite of the dwindling crowd. It's a shame your large audience is missing, but at least it's way less awkward for him to strike up conversation when you come to the bar? He probably won't bring up the flowers. Oh god, what if you think that's weird. You probably assumed the flowers were some freak fan. Is he a freak fan? He's not, right? (It will take him like months of dating to finally admit to the flowers thing)
Serafine - A good-looking cat with a nice set of pipes is certainly someone she'd notice, especially if they were a regular performer at the Marigold Room and other places she frequented before that. If it was the former, she'd have plenty of chances to wink when you met eyes, "chancing" across you backstage or just being forward and chatting you up after the show. She certainly isn't shy about expressing her interest, and it could be a fun fling.
You do look adorable swinging your hips and swaying your tail along to the beat, not to mention the different get-ups you have to dress in. Serafine maaaay or may not have wanted to help pick a suit out, or help with make-up, or give you some of her jewelry to wear... It's half marking her territory and half she loves to lounge around your dressing room and be a pest. You'd never kick her out and she knows it. She'll do it in other clubs, too, though you have no idea how she keeps getting past security.
Nico - Like his sister, he has no qualms nor shame about trying to get your attention on stage. Unlike Serafine, though, he'd start doing it immediately and be a general pest after the show. The difference between his attention seeking and the other men's in the audience is he actually has some charisma when you two meet backstage, so you're only slightly inclined to tell him to buzz off. He wasn't much of a music expert, and he still isn't ... But he likes hearing you rehearse and hum to yourself, and it's endearing when he requests songs.
He's pleased when you get gigs at the Marigold Room, as it's easier to hang around before and after the show - and bonus, he gets to be extra aggressive with throwing creeps out to impress you! But if you're performing elsewhere then Nico will stop by. He might be bruised and/or bloody because he just left a job, but don't worry! Sometimes he'll even bring flowers or whatever - though without Serafine knowing, she'd never let him live it down.
Mordecai - He wouldn't approach you any differently from others - he'd still be his usual prickly, anti-social, often awkward self - in fact, he might avoid an avid performer, simply because they often have fans around them or at least people recognizing them. What could get his notice was someone whose real persona is very different from their ostentatious self on stage - more quiet and pensive, perhaps. Like any attempt at friendship, let alone romance, it's slow going with him.
That said, he's the type to admire professionalism in a performance. A well put together outfit, thoughtful musical arrangement (as if he's an expert ...). He wouldn't like a femme presenting singer have to wear skimpy clothes or tolerate a rowdy audience. If there was a questionable manager or creepy fan bothering them, Mordecai can deal with that, at least, not that he'd tell his friend/partner. Mordecai would generally glare down any touchy fans and annoying admirers like a jealous terrier. This amuses Mitzi to no end.
Asa - Simply put, he saw you performing at a ritzy party he was invited to and reached out to your manager so you might perform on a weekly basis at the Marigold Room. Very professional! He'd send flowers with his name to the dressing room afterward, would make sure you're finding everything to your liking and not being bothered by anyone. Requests to continue performing would bypass your manager to being nice, short handwritten notes.
Eventually he'd pay you extra and treat you to a nice dinner afterward, if you were comfortable with it. If you let the older man down, he's not too bothered. He'd continue the friendly business relationship and would still send flowers and so on. He'd rather keep you as a good business associate and continue to enjoy the performances than let his silly feelings get in the way. Alas, he is hopeless at discussions of your music. My guy called a ukelele a tiny guitar.
Wes - He never hung around the Marigold Room after hours - it's his workplace, and not really his vibe - but it's very hard to resist not sitting by for an hour (or three) with a drink while you finish your set. Sometimes you two will meet eyes, or he thinks you are, and he considers dropping backstage to say ... hello? He's an 'employee', so isn't checking up on you a normal thing to do? Make sure you're satisfied with the Marigold Room and all that. Right.
Ironically that's how he's finally able to meet the singer he's been mooning over for months. A drunk patron was getting too cozy on your way out, and Wes happened to be there. His face and ... charming demeanor is good for scaring off upper class wimps. So there's that. He's not so bad, though - clumsy, and prooobably realizes you're out of his league. You get to see more of his earnest side when you two meet outside of the Marigold Room, where his fellow murderous gangsters coworkers aren't watching yalls every move with popcorn in hand.

Tonight through tomorrow is the Jewish holiday Purim. In this picture, kids are celebrating Purim at the Hebrew Institute of Far Rockaway, 1950.
A celebratory event coinciding with the spring, Purim commemorates the salvation of Jewish subjects in the Persian Achaemenid Empire from Haman, a royal vizier who planned to murder the whole population in a single day. The main antagonist in the Book of Esther, Haman had thrown "lots" to determine the date of the slaughter—the 13th day of the Hebrew month of Adar. Instead, he saw his plans undone by the Jewish leader Mordecai and his cousin and adopted daughter, Esther.
The traditional wearing of costumes and masks at Purim is thought to have been influenced by Roman carnivals of the 15th century.

One Bad Day
This is my first ever post on tumblr and I’m not sure if anyone will ever see it or if it’s worth reading but I had this thought and I wanted to share it with others. If anyone does read it I’d love to hear your thoughts.
In the famous comic/movie “The Killing Joke” the Joker says that it only takes one bad day to drive a person insane. As a fan of the Lackadaisy I had the realization that this can applied to all of the current and former main Lackadaisy characters (Mitzi, Mordecai, Victor, Zib, and Rocky). This collective “one bad day” was the day Atlas was murdered. This might not sound like it makes sense or could be applied to everyone but the day Atlas died started a chain of events that permanently changed all those affected by it. To best break it down I’ll go over how this “one bad day” affected each character.
MITZI
As the grieving widow Mitzi let her grief drive her to make increasingly morally questionable decisions that led to her losing Wick and Zib. Her pain led to her manipulating those around her, Wick for money, which would be discovered and ultimately lead to a break up with a woman he clearly had feelings for, and getting Rocky into getting alcohol despite the danger this puts him in. She becomes so obsessed with saving the Lackadaisy that the ounce beautiful Georgia rose was reduced to a prickly bush. When Zib offered her a way out her pain her trauma prevented her from doing so, all stemming from that one bad day.
MORDECAI
a man defined by order and precision, Mordecais meticulously constructed world fell to pieces thanks to one bad day. Atlas raised him and when he was taken away the structures that protected him collapsed. Despite his cold exterior he does hold compassion for those he cares about like Victor and Atlas. He abandoned and crippled Victor, his one and only friend after he refused to retire. Mordecai infiltrated the Marigold to find Atlas’s killer, making reckless choices, like crippling his best friend, getting sucked into a voodoo cult, kidnapping a man for information under the Savoy’s noses, and robbing the Lackadaisy, choices defined by pain, fear and desperation.
VICTOR
he never cared much for Atlas but his death made him lose his one freind who crippled him and now is forced to watch the Lackadaisy a place he helped build, rot. All while being reduced to a bartender and being further damaged by a shotgun blast to the chest, one can compare it to being trapped in purgatory all thanks to one bad day.
ZIB
Zib hated Atlas, not because of what he was but for what he did to Mitzi. Mitzi married a villain and after Atlas’s death became one. He held on to the hope that she would leave, that they could go on the road again. In the end, Zib would give up on her leaving her to pick up her pearls. After years in the Lackadaisy, Zib had been hollowed out, reduced to a drunken, tobacco stained shell of his former self, but watching Mitzi turn into the ruthless criminal she married broke him, a chain of unfortunate events stemming from one bad day.
ROCKY
Rocky is arguably the most tragic of all the characters in Lackadaisy, losing his parents at a young age, dominated by some form of mental illness that leaves him despised by most, kicked out of his Aunts house for an incident he may or may not have been responsible for, finding solid ground with the Lackadaisy only to see it all fall apart. Seeing everything burning around him he gave into his worst impulses in order to make himself useful to the Lackadaisy. His love (plutonic love) for Mitzi and his desire to be a part of the band led him to become increasingly erratic and reckless, he enlisted his cousin and Ivy into the fight, leading to Calvin becoming a killer and Ivy becoming more afraid and confused. Rocky may always have been crazy but the innocent antics of his youth were transformed into something darker and more destructive. One bad day brought the worst side of Rocky out just like the others.
CONCLUSION
“One bad day”, the Joker lost his family and was deformed by chemicals, his already poor life experiences provided a foundation for his madness. Like Joker the characters directly affected by Atlas’s death provided the final push that sent them into a spiral of despair, chaos, sadness and even madness. While none of these characters were exactly “ordinary” or good people in general, they had stable lives but when that was stripped away they were left broken and vulnerable leading them on their respective paths to damnation. Of course this is just my interpretation of these characters and I wouldn’t consider this little essay to be anything taken seriously.
thank you for anyone who took the time out of their day to read this and if you have any comments I’d love to hear them!

Character ask: Queen Esther
Favorite thing about them: Her courage and selflessness when she risks her life to save her people, and her cleverness in the way she uses flattery, entertainment, and well-chosen wording to maneuver the villainous Haman into a vulnerable position and turn her royal husband against him.
Least favorite thing about them: I suppose the fact that at first she's reluctant to approach the king without being summoned and come out as Jewish to him. Of course it's natural that she's afraid to risk her life, but still, thousands of other people's lives are on the line and she almost chooses to protect herself rather than them.
Three things I have in common with them:
*I'm part Jewish.
*I'm often afraid to reveal my Jewish heritage in public.
*I often wear purple – most mass-produced Queen Esther costumes for Purim seem to dress her in purple, since it was associated with royalty in the ancient world.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I'm not married to a king.
*I'm not an orphan.
*I've never been to the Middle East.
Favorite line:
Her instructions to Mordecai when she agrees to speak to the king on the Jews' behalf:
"Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”
Her reveal of her Jewish heritage to her husband, with its clever rhetoric of saying that she and her people are threatened, arousing her husband's protective outrage, before she reveals that by this she means Haman's planned genocide of the Jews that her husband had blindly agreed to:
“If I have found favor with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people—this is my request. For I and my people have been sold to be destroyed, killed and annihilated."
brOTP: Her cousin and foster father Mordecai.
OTP: Well, I have to say her husband King Ahasuerus, though it's hardly a modern love match, and though there are plenty of valid reasons to loathe him and wish Esther could leave him. If not for their marriage, she couldn't have saved her people.
nOTP: Haman.
Random headcanon: I accept the Talmudic tradition that she was a vegetarian rather than eat non-kosher meat in her husband's palace, but not the tradition that she lived on only legumes and seeds. While I understand the appeal of saying "Out of virtue and piety she turned down the most tempting dishes in favor of plain, simple food," that's not a balanced diet, and Persian cuisine has so many wonderful vegetable dishes she could have chosen from!
Unpopular opinion: I don't think she and Queen Vashti need to be pitted against each other. While I don't like the tradition of vilifying Vashti in order to glorify Esther as the superior, deserving replacement, neither do I think admiring Vashti's courage and defiance means we should look down on Esther for being "docile and submissive" or "complicit with the patriarchy." After all, it's by finally breaking the rules that Esther saves her people, and ironically, despite having banished Vashti for her disobedience and chosen Esther as a suitably docile replacement, Ahasuerus obeys Esther's will in the end. I admire and sympathize with both women and see Vashti as ultimately vindicated by Esther.
Song I associate with them: Well, it's mainly a song about Haman, not Esther, but I have to choose this popular silly children's song for Purim, "A Wicked, Wicked Man." It's the song I most associate with the holiday.
youtube
Favorite picture of them:
These various paintings.

HI this is my thousand word ramble about Rocky and his relationship with other characters and my thoughts in general. I'm normal about Lackadaisy I promise.
Calvin
Calvin and Rocky are cousins that grew up together, with Rocky being 5 years older. The mini comics all make it seem like he spent most of his time there and later he says “it was home more than home was.” (Lackadaisy Breakdown). The cousins wrote to each other while Rocky was traveling around and Calvin kept them all inside a box instead of throwing them away. Aunt Nina tells Rocky "[Calvin]'s the only one in all o’ creation who'd follow you" (Lackadaisy Somersault) so they're clearly extremely close. Calvin lies to his mother several times to keep Rocky out of trouble, even when it's about something illegal. Despite his moral compass and the fact that he almost went into law enforcement, he's working with Lackadaisy and regularly shooting at people presumably just because Rocky wants him to (and because Ivy's there... but in the beginning it was for Rocky). They strike me as having more of a sibling relationship than a cousin one due to growing up so close.
Aunt Nina
Nina does not have a very high opinion of Rocky and she makes this very clear. She trusts him not to get Calvin into too much trouble but she doesn't let him stick around when he stops by. He’s under no illusions that he’s welcome at her house (Lackadaisy Somersault) and he tells Ivy that “[his face]’s only abided in small doses” at Nina’s house. He starts telling Ivy there was a small family tragedy and "it had an author... and with already ink-stained hands, i signed my name on it" which means that something bad happened and he either was to blame or took the blame and that is the reason he left Missouri, "so time could dull my fresh reminder face." (Lackadaisy Breakdown). My guess is that this family tragedy had something to do with his mother because his father was alive at least a little bit after he left because he was sending letters and stopped (Lackadaisy Correspondence) his mother is only mentioned once, in Lackadaisy Breakdown, described as “chasing Red Death” Red Death is not a real sickness and its instead from Edgar Allen Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death. This could mean that his mother had some sort of bloody sickness. My guess is tuberculosis. It was one of the biggest causes of death in the early 1900’s and one of its most well known symptoms is coughing up blood. Sorry this is supposed to be about Nina and I kind of went off the rails there. Anyway I don’t think Nina hates Rocky at all; she still does his laundry and lets him visit and lets him drag Calvin around. But she doesn’t trust him and makes sure he knows that.
Mitzi
Some people seem to think Rocky has a crush on Mitzi, and him threatening Wick certainly gives the impression but I heavily disagree and I think he sees her more as a mother figure. He clearly looks up to her and seeks her approval constantly; he goes out while extremely injured and hiding that injury from her (Lackadaisy Deliria) presumably because he realizes that the pig farmers' attack on Lackadaisy was his fault and he really wants to fix it. His behavior towards Wick strikes me more as a child really not wanting a step parent. As the audience, I know that Wick is basically incapable of evil (he has killed once and it was a duck and it still haunts him) and Mitzi is the one taking advantage of their relationship, but from Rocky's perspective Mitzi is just an innocent widow looking for companionship and Wick is a weird rich sleazeball. I honestly don't think Rocky is aware of Mitzi's own sleaziness, and if he is he’s ignoring it to the best of his ability. but Mitzi likes having Rocky around. Every time she's upset over something and Rocky starts joking around she immediately starts smiling more (Lackadaisy Proposition, Lackadaisy Haggersnash). She’s undeniably fond of him, despite his many shenanigans.
Mordecai
Okay this one is a little bit more out there. “But Rotten!” You may argue, “Rocky doesn’t actually know Mordecai! They only interact like once outside the mini comics!” Yes dear reader but consider this: they have so many parallels. They are opposites on the surface; Rocky is silly, Mordecai is serious. But looking closer they have a few things in common. Mainly: TRAINS!!!!!!!!! They both have recurring train motifs and it makes me insane. For Mordecai he met Atlas on a train (Lackadaisy Thaumaturgy), and for Rocky he has a drawing of one on one of the letters he sent to Calvin (Lackadaisy Correspondence) and he said his father worked on the railroad (Lackadaisy Breakdown). In relation to the trains, they both left home at a young age and wrote letters home. They also both seem to have a habit of gaining enemies; when Atlas met Mordecai he was running from people (Lackadaisy Bookkeeper) and Rocky’s… everything makes making enemies extremely easy for him. These two have PARALLELS and I need everyone to know!!!!!
Rocky
This last section is about Rocky himself! First off, to state the obvious: Rocky is extremely impulsive, he doesn’t seem to think about the consequences of his actions whatsoever and it gets him into all sorts of trouble all the time. He’s not oblivious though; in Lackadaisy Posterity he immediately jumps to the conclusion that he ruined something, he just didn’t remember it. Rocky puts on a show of being confident and sure of himself but the moment his walls are torn down in the Posterity and Breakdown pages he’s calling himself a horrible person. He is extremely aware of how other people feel about him; even though his exclamation of “they tolerate me” in Lackadaisy Palaver is framed as a joke, it feels pretty real. A lot of people don’t like Rocky and he knows this. I don’t remember where I was going with this. Just know that I’m obsessed with Rocky and I’m thinking about him always.
In conclusion

Pondering Lackadaisy again, and there’s something in the pilot which struck me as rather interesting…
(Spoilers below)
Ruthless, infamous hatchetman Mordecai Heller aims to kill, clockwork ticking, three times, against the trio from Lackadaisy. Each time, the shot doesn’t connect. Each time for different reasons.
The first one he tries to shoot is Rocky, as the trio tries to drive away. The clock ticks, the sights line up…but Rocky is doing his own thing, trying to control the ride and road, steer the car into Sable’s quarry—find the “heroic” way out. And Mordecai misses because just as the shot was supposed to go, Rocky forces the story the way he wants to go, into an uncertain but Glorious Future. By sheer dumb luck, Rocky gets away.
The second is Freckle, Calvin for the comics people. Freckle doesn’t have any plan either for himself or for the Marigold Mooks—he just wants to draw cover fire away from Ivy. His luck runs out, Mordecai has him dead (aha) close…and then comes the boom of dynamite and heavy machinery, and he misses. Rocky, as crazy as he is, won’t let his cousin get killed. And Freckle’s efforts to protect others pays off—the present is secured. By sheer dumb Rocky, Freckle gets away.
And the third is Ivy, leading the getaway again. The car is totalled, the bottles almost all broken, but they have to move—for the family of Lackadaisy that Mordecai left behind. Struggling on, just like Mordecai, after Atlas dropped the sky on their heads with his passing. And maybe for old times’ sake—maybe for the sake of the man whose family has been reduced to a widow and a goddaughter—Mordecai drops the gun. Never makes the shot. For the sake of the past, by sheer dumb love, Ivy gets away.
The future steers is own course. The present has a future to get to and a past to live for. And the past is owed its due.
…might be coincidence, of course.

the problem is, though, that he has really, really bad medical trauma and is *really* fucking scared of needles. so when the lackadaisy crew takes him to dr quackenbush or whatever, he freaks out (no thanks to his TBI) and tries to run. but they all (save for Mordecai, who isn't aware of what's happening) hold him down and prevent him from leaving. they hold him down and put an IV in him. he falls unconscious with an overwhelming feeling of betrayal that doesn't fade when he wakes up. it helps ease the transition from lackadaisy to marigold.
in this little comic, mitzi prevents him from leaving, but all he sees is his mom. he's right back in the moment his mom handed him off to unqualified strangers to take his tail.

LACKADAISY Pilot Short Review & Thoughts: INDIE Animation Greatness.
Tumblr media
Okay, so I've just recently gotten finished watching the latest new indie animated pilot short: Lackadaisy. Honestly, I truly and seriously loved this 27-minute long film of bootlegging kitties' adventure! Now for those who are super new to this short and overall story of the Lackadaisy world, the short takes place in 1920s America specifically in St Louis Missouri during the prohibition era when all things alcoholic were OutLaw and where most of the characters consist of anthropomorphic cat people in this story.
The title comes from the name of the café also covered as an underground speakeasy "The little Daisy Café " or for very special Partons and guests that want to get their illegal drink on known as the Lackadaisy speakeasy. All in all, the business hasn't been like it used to be for the little once glamorous speakeasy, leaving our main cat trio of trouble of the short to dig up some much-needed booze. We got the highly chaotic also artistic wild spirit, wacky, smart but slightly dimwitted sweet grinning nut Rocky Rickaby. His baby-faced sweet and super adorable well mannered but deeply repressed rage Trigger happy cousin Calvin "Freckle" McMurray ,and last but not least little miss firecracker and sweetie full of spunk Ivy Peppers.
On the revival competitor side that is Marigold. We got our Cajuns sensations siblings danger duo the Savoy: Serafine and Nicodeme, And last Mr. Tuxedo always serious catman and professional "cleaner" extraordinaire Mordecai Heller who has some past history with the Lackadaisy staff & it past owner. Now a little details on what and why I enjoyed this film.
The Animation: Lackadaisy overall animation is fantastical amazing, like UGH from the impressive shading and lighting within the backgrounds from the way the characters eyes are super luminescence in the dark and really gives that feline aspect. To the intricate little details such as the characters very realistic cat ear twitching and other behavioral cat traits like the tail movements and fizzing of the fur when scared or startle, some criticism I've seen in the Live Chat in regards to the left in sketch/guidelines within the characters is that it's distracting. But personal for me I liked the added in sketch linework, it deeply reminded me of super old school classic Disney animation or seeing old traditional animationing videos on how they did things back in the day.
The Voice acting: I swear the voice casting in this was excellent and very on point. Each of the voice actors really fit so well into each of their characters, from Michael Kovach great voice work as Rocky who you can tell was really enjoying himself, to Channel Awesome Malcolm Ray as Nico and Benni Latham as Serafine and ProZD also known as SungWon Cho very nice and fantastic voice work as Mordecai and Belsheber Rusape as Freckle and Ashe Wagner as Mitzi, Lisa Reimold as Ivy. Just overall real good sounding Voice work.
The Story: Now when it comes to overall story, I liked how it was basically more of a standalone type of storytelling in its own kind of separate reality then what's currently going on in the comic thus far into it. I can maybe see others who've been following the webcomic for far longer might dislike certain changes in the pilot that differ a bit from the comic, but I can get why they went with it this way so it probably would be easier for newcomers to jump into it. While certain parts did felt a bit underwhelming & might not be super perfect, I still enjoyed the energy and pacing of this short. I felt they did a really good job as a pilot showcasing the premise /concept and some of the characteristics of the main cast, although not all of them...but I felt it did a nice enough job of giving you a taste of these characters and making you want more of them & find out what's their story is. Either way love how the pilot plot was this mini but disastrous bootlegging adventure of Rocky, Ivy and Freckle getting into trouble barely escaping with their lives all for some nasty tasting booze.
Final Thoughts: While I might not have been following this project or webcomic since early DeviantArt or back during the mid-2000s to 2010s ( even though I wished I got into it much earlier) as long as others have. But even as a somewhat new fan of this indie piece of work and incredible artsy, I truly really come to love Lackadaisy so much and I deeply hope that this pilot short will paved the way for even more crime-fulled animated kitties adventures in the future.
Please Check Out LACKADAISY and give it all the love and support it can get because I want more Booze stealing lawbreaking Cats to see!

François-Léon Benouville (French, 1821-1859) Esther à l'odalisque, 1844 Esther, the beautiful Jewish wife of the Persian king Ahasuerus (Xerxes I), and her cousin Mordecai persuade the king to retract an order for the general annihilation of Jews throughout the empire. The massacre had been plotted by the king’s chief minister, Haman, and the date decided by casting lots (purim). Instead, Haman was hanged on the gallows he built for Mordecai, and, on the day planned for their annihilation, the Jews destroyed their enemies.

Despite being an evening of celebration and joy at the farewell of another year, the Redwood Ball seemed to be submerged in a sea of countless gossip, rumors and whispers.
Many of the guests were himnotized by Evangeline's presence. The young Boneville widow married to her cousin-in-law seemed to dance with the lightness of a young debutante, something that attracted attention from the ladies.
Tumblr media
Percival was not left out of the judgmental stares of the more conservative generations, two men dancing as if they were a couple was most unusual and improper for the evening.
Tumblr media
Jacques wasn’t comfortable with this situation, he had to tolerate pretending to be part of this false morality for almost 60 years. It was time to understand that he could break this mold with impunity thanks to his social and hierarchical position, so he decided to help both his daughter and his nephew.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He watched Mordecai from afar with his eyes on the dancing couples, approached and offered his hand to his former lover.
Jacques: Mordecai Barrow, it has been a long time. But I would love it if you could grant me the next dance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mordecai and Evangeline were both impressed by the proposal of Jacques. It went against every image he had tried to build for so many years, it seemed to show a turning point in his life.

If im reding the Viktor interactions with young mc right, he seems to have similar feelings towards them as he would have with Ivy. (That theyre to young to have the job they do. And low key wanting them gone, mostly out of annoyance and a little out his unresolved feelings about his own kid.) Will any interactions he'd have with a young mc change based on the deal or ocupation. Id imagine hed be a bit more horrified at a young call girl mc than a young accountant mc.
Another thing ive been curious about but it might be a spoiler so feel free to not answer.😁
How does Evelyn feel about Marius working for Flynn? Was she initially against it or does he have some sort of debt like with murder backstory mc.
Dint sleep and am really tired, so i hope ive written everything coherently 😅 Hope you're doing ok and as allways, take what time you need to answer.
Yes youre reading it right, Id say :3 He's also thinking of his daughter whose closer to MC's age than Ivy's at this point. And I'd love to write different interactions like that in Viktor's future scene - it only makes sense! And Mordecai has very different opinions depending on MC's occupation (as we know lolol).
That is a bit of a spoiler so I wont give the whole story but Eveline is very unhappy that Marius works for Flynn. Marius doesn't care bc he gets to see his cousin, especially now that he seems to be working long-term in St. Louis.

as someone who is non-jewish, who is this haman? i want to understand the memes but I'm getting lost xx
Ah, good thing you asked!
Haman is the villain of the Scroll of Esther, the basis of the Jewish holiday of Purim. He was a minister in King(/Emperor) Ahashverosh(commonly assumed to be either Xerxes I or Artaxerxes I)'s court, when the Persian Empire stretched from India to the Horn of Africa. Haman was a high enough minister to mandate all bow down to him, and since a Jew named Mordecai(who was also granted high status after stopping a plot against the Emperor) refused to bow down to him(as he believed it would involve submitting to idolatry), he wanted to genocide all the Jews, who were exiled to areas Persia now controlled. Esther, Mordecai's cousin, was the Emperor's concubine after he executed his wife following a disagreement, and she used her status and Mordecai's unclaimed boon for stopping the assassination to undermine Haman's plan. The Emperor was furious for the attempt to genocide his concubine's people and hung Haman.
After Haman was hanged, Mordecai was appointed in his place, and we celebrate the day when, instead of genocide, we got a celebration.

ngl I've got a weakness for the 'character not quite wearing their coat or jacket properly' trope
it's a close cousin to the 'constantly overdressed character forced to ditch part of their character armor for the first time'

I WAS RIGHT IM ALWAYS RIGHT
So in the marauders fandom I feel like all creators that I ship end up together. Our they hint about a crush and talk about them and I always know even if I don’t even know that they’ve met I ALWAYS know.
So I’m talking about this bc Mordecai and Rey like that one post mordecai made about their crush i was like ITS REY and I was with my best friend.
THEN I FOUND PUT THEY WERE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH SIMEBODY AND I WAS LIKE OH ITS REY I JISST KNOW ITS HIM.
THEN I SAW THE “everywhere I go I keep her picture in my wallet like…blah blah blah”
And I cannot tell you how much I screamed. You had to be there to experience I’m not exaggerating I had to use my inhaler bc I jumped around so much I was running around and screaming my cousin was there to witness this tho.
So yes I was right and all the people I ship online I manifest into an existing couple.
Good night and thank you for come to my TED talk <3
