#Tulpa life

One of the biggest things that stands out to me about the tulpamancy community on Tumblr is how alienated everyone seems to feel. You've got some advice blogs, some discourse blogs, but that's about it- which is wild to me, cuz tulpamancy is all about community and learning from each other! Even more than that tho, there's something important about seeing other tulpas & created systems doing what we want, making our own choices, LIVING our lives. It's a reminder that we're real people too- it's important and validating for others like us, and it's great for non-tulpas to see that we're just as much real and people as they are. The best part of tulpamancy is that we get to enjoy our own existence, decide for ourselves what we want, and live as US!! I wanna bring that energy to Tumblr.

That's why I'm starting a tag I want any other tulpas (and their hosts too, but don't forget this tag is about our autonomy) to join in on;

Seeing a lot of "Build a Headmate/Headmate pack" accounts recently. what're your thoughts on those?

I'll say I like the idea in theory. I don't care for what I've seen of it in practice.

To be honest, I hadn't noticed any of these blogs before, so I just did some very quick skimming of some. But from what I did see, I think they're missing something.

Specifically, that headmates are people and can outgrow their source.

I see nothing wrong with headmate packets. I even mused about something similar a while back. But I think they need to come with some disclaimers that headmates are people and can deviate from their sources. I think not including disclaimers like that gives off the impression that these are locked in traits, which will lead to problems later when the headmate wants to deviate from their assigned roles.

And to be blunt, a lot of these are just bad. Either poorly designed or potentially unhealthy for the system.

Here's one example:

So here is my list of don'ts for anyone who wants to make headmate pack.

Don't give created headmates exo-trauma. It's one thing to accidentally form a headmate with exo-trauma, but creating a new being with the intent of it being traumatized is wrong.

Don't give your created headmates dangerous or harmful traits like vengefulness or unpredictability.

Don't make them a loner as that risks them shutting themselves off from the rest of the system, and worsening dissociative barriers.

...

Here's the thing... if anyone wants to get in on this... you need to stop treating it like making OCs.

Because headmate creation is very real. It does work. And intentionally making a headmate with trauma or self-destructive traits can cause real harm to a system who introject them.

When you make OCs, giving them flaws and tragic backstories is great. That's because the role of an OC is to be in a story filled with conflict. But if you're making a headmate, they're meant to be a mental companion who can share your life with you. And conflict in a system is very much a bad thing.

People who are making these blogs have a responsibility to their readers to do their best to make sure their readers safe. And I don't feel like they're doing that.

It doesn't need to be done with an actual person – it's most known for being done with rubber ducks, hence the name. Just sharing a link to a new tulpamancy guide I found on Reddit: Abvieon's Simple Guide to Tulpas

We aren't anti-tulpa terminology for complicated reasons (mostly having to do with history and scientific research), but we also have been scratching our head for an alternative, should our created headmates want to label themselves something other than tulpa (because willo/parogen and thoughtform arent really alternatives, at least for us).

So for this we are proposing a synonym to tulpa, not necessarily to replace it, but to provide an alternative should someone be averse to using the label:

Ideosum/Ideoform (plural is Ideosum or Ideoforms)

A bit of a mouthful we'll admit. Its from ideo- meaning "idea", and -sum meaning "same as" (as in, Ideosum are equals to their creators) or -form meaning "having a shape/likeness".

Someone who creates/develops an Ideosum is called an Ideosummoner. The process of creating an Ideoform is called ideosummoning/ideoforming.

This term isn't to force change of labels upon anyone and I discourage anyone using it to do so! Pushing labels on others is not something we condone, but because of "tulpa" as a term's messy history and misrepresentation, we wanted to give an ACTUAL other option in case there are folks who want to use a different term. Meanwhile we will probably start using this to refer to our created headmates just because we coined it and we think it sounds cool.

So, yeah. If anyone else digs this term it's for you. Do not pressure people to switch to it, please.
