to answer your first question, I must embarrass myself in public and tell you all that my go-to boba order when I'm not feeling fancy is literally just black milk tea with 50% ice and 50% sweetness with zero toppings bc my tastes are basic at best. Like don't get me wrong, I'll switch it up and obvi there are different orders for different moods and different temperatures, but if I'm feeling psychologically in need of boba, it's just black milk tea. But this however means that I can say I have one (1) thing in common with Cale Makar, who I think would also have extremely milquetoast taste in boba. Man put a 7-11 slushies in the cup, he is NOT trying anything matcha or wintermelon or jasmine tea or ANYTHING interesting. Me 🤝 Cale Makar -> boring ass bitches

Question 2: I may get canceled for this but: Brandon Belt is the bus driver with an orange cat (he still counts as an SF Giant.) He has the right attitude for bus driver: extremely goofy but extremely competent when the situation calls for it. Not afraid to throw people off the bus if they're misbehaving, lets kids ride for free, tells off teenagers for using the handlebars like a jungle gym but runs through puddles in the rain to make people laugh. Wears a captain's hat even though he doesn't have to. Young people love him. Old people don't know what to make of him. He is regularly viral on tiktok being filmed talking about his orange cat (named Hunter) and UFO conspiracy theories, because it's never really clear when he gets going if Hunter and the UFO conspiracy theories are related. Also Craw is his husband and an elementary school P.E. teacher. That's not related to the bus but I had to mention it.

Here's the thing: there isn't really some grand story in Prism/Bor'dor as a ship, but nevertheless I think they should date, because they would both be the person like "hyping up my cringefail partner whom I love so much" but in completely different ways.

Bor'dor would be loudly and proudly telling anyone they meet about how smart she is and how worldly and how much she's studied to be good at magic and how they're on the way to the library for a study date right now (the "study date" entails him cheerfully charming the librarians while she smuggles books into a bag of holding). Prism would incinerate anyone who so much as looked at him funny because he's so sensitive and if you make him sad you will not live to regret it.

Within six months they're banned from every archive in Exandria as well the bookstores of every major city, and this does absolutely nothing to stop them.

Urwen vs Eldacar of Gondor

Urwen:

Also known as Lalaith, she was the elder daughter of Húrin and Morwen and died age three of the Evil Breath from Angband.

In response to her death, Hurin says this "Marrer of Middle-earth, would that I might see you face to face, and mar you as my lord Fingolfin did!' His love and subsequent loss of her is definitely a motivator, I think, for his later valiant defiance of Morgoth! So she may have died young but she had a big impact. (I mean if we want to apply the butterfly effect she kinda caused the fall of Nargothrond: motivated Hurin to deny Morgoth, got Turin cursed to give really bad advice about bridges, no more Nargothrond.  How many 3 year olds could claim that? Also more seriously, a lot of the deaths in the Silm are violent and awful. But we little of mundane, quiet deaths from sickness. A young child dying in this way stands out in its more realist tragedy. And it shows the subtler ways Morgoth sowed despair in middle earth and also that he knew the Edain were a threat. The 'evil breath' mostly killed 'the children or the rising youth in the houses of Men.'

Eldacar of Gondor:

The twenty-first King of Gondor, also known as Vinitharya. During his reign the conflict known as the Kin-strife occurred and he was forced from his throne for ten years.

The blorbo of all time actually. He’s the protagonist of one of the most interesting stories in the LoTR appendices, the Kin-strife, and everything about his life story is so fascinating! His father was the crown prince of Gondor and his mother was the princess of Rhovanion so not a Númenorean. As a result all the racist nobles of Gondor made noises about how Eldacar was of “lesser race” and wouldn’t live as long as a “true Dúnadan”. One of the most fascinating examples of fantasy racism in Tolkien’s works imo – the bigotry is awful but the bigots have a shield to hide behind! Obviously their concerns are actually valid because they just don’t want their king to die young! (Their concerns aren’t valid. But I think the worldbuilding here is great.) Anyway Eldacar was born in Rhovanion and given the birth-name Vinitharya, but when he returned to Gondor aged five he was obliged to take up the Quenya name Eldacar, presumably to pacify all the racists in Gondor. He’s the EMBODIMENT of mixed-race/immigrant child trauma my beloved. Eventually his father died and he ascended to the throne of Gondor, but then his shitty second cousin Castamir (all my homies hate Castamir he’s the worst) started the civil war known as the Kin-strife and usurped Eldacar’s throne. Eldacar was forced to flee north to Rhovanion but Castamir captured his eldest son Ornendil and had him cruelly put to death which is SO SAD. But Eldacar, being brave and resourceful and clever and extremely cool, put together an alliance with his mother’s kinsfolk in Rhovanion and after ten years reclaimed his throne, which turned out to be slightly easier than expected because Castamir was The Worst and all his subjects hated him. And Eldacar PERSONALLY fought and killed Castamir HIMSELF and AVENGED HIS SON which is extremely important when you consider all the cringefail elves in the legendarium whose quests for revenge didn’t really go anywhere at all. Then he lived to be 235 proving that all the idiot racists who were worried about his lifespan didn’t have any idea what they were talking about, as is par for the course with racists. Also the Kin-strife itself has such far-reaching consequences for the history of Gondor! The Corsairs of Umbar, Gondor’s long-standing enemies, are actually followers of the descendants of Castamir. And during the Usurpation of Castamir Osgiliath was sacked and burned, leading to the beginning of its decline as Gondor’s greatest city. Even though Eldacar’s story is, to me, ultimately hopeful, it’s also such a fascinating turning point in the history of Gondor. Also ALSO he’s explicitly surrounded by textual ghosts which is really fascinating. His father Valacar has “children” plural – so Eldacar had siblings!! What were they like? How did they react to it all? And his son Aldamir is described as Eldacar’s second son and third child, meaning that he had a daughter too. Who was she?? What happened to her? He’s such a blorbo and there’s so much interesting stuff to dig into around him and he has to win this entire tournament please please please❤️

The inkling girl in the first panel is Carlotta Marisa Ikaraggi, and she's a prodigal sign interpreter for the Squid sisters. And her surname sounds like Ikarrage, or "fried squid" in Japanese, which is what Calamari is. She's from splatsville and her parents come from Cephaloflorence, Inktaly.

The gal next to her is from the Hoenn region. She's an ace trainer named Kasumi Dominica Hamasaki-Brooks. She's deaf in one ear and wants to be a water type gym leader.

Also in the first panel is the Sniper from Team Fortress 2. After finding out he NEVER buys his own shirts, I figured he'd be the kind of person to only enter a contest or competition if the grand prize is a free T-shirt. So yeah, with the transferable skills, Mr. Mundy became the Bee photography champ of 1964. Also he's wondering how Waddle Doo is listening to music.

Knuckles is autistic in my HC, and while he (much like Eggman) is a feminist, he doesn't like to read long paragraphs. So I decided he would read a book of Alison Bedschel Cartoons.

In the second panel, we see two sims characters, one of which is an oc. Hali'a el-Ghani is Hawaiian/Senegalese, and likes floral hijabs. To her right is Savannah Price, but I decided to give her a better looking hairstyle (namely box braids in a ponytail with some edges).

Also Mario and Luigi and Bob the Cat.

The mannequins are of Princess Dragonfruit (my idea of what Wa-Peach is like, somewhat like Bowsette, and she's cringefail villain with a Dr.Doofenshmirtz level of incompetence and her girlfriend is Princess Chammomile, who's pretty much WaDaisy and she sleeps often and has a mellow but lazy stoner-ish vibe) and some random guy.

The next panel shows a club of some sort. Rouge the bat wants to play a game of Chaosvolley with Undyne.

I decided that rouge the bat WOULD wear the jewelry she steals, and frequently lies about where she got it. Also I can't draw anyone playing pool to save my life. So I made up a dangerous "Party sport" instead.

The shirt Undyne is wearing is based off of a hat from @shirtsthatgohard

Bronto Burt is in the corner dancing.

The sonic character in the BG is an oc named Guava the Fennec. She's a green fox with pink eyes and likes fruit smoothies

The foreground shows a Hylian named Shimea who's family runs a tea house inn oot castle town. The Toad next to her is Enokiko Toad, a reserved and intelligent gal who's also quite blunt and also very autistic.

Note that none of the characters on this page who wear school uniforms wear the exact same uniform. That's because Principal Isabelle Shizue (yes from animal crossing) forgot to have a uniform made for Lawson High (named after Jerry Lawson, who pretty much invented the video game console) so Isabelle just put (wear a school uniform.

In reality, it's because I have ADHD and I don't want to draw the same uniform multiple times.

Delsys - My 1rst Full release Tav, half wood elf orphan, beastmaster ranger who ended up serving as a guardian of the druidic order that found and raised her. she's a big introvert and has piss poor social skills, litteraly her only friends are her owl companion, Verbena and Trilli ( even if she feels disconected from her two very extroverted and playful friends ) she's been following the orders and lead of the druids for most of her life so she's really not confident in her new role as the leader of the bg3 party, ( she's not confident about a lot of things actually, tbh the only thing she's not insecure about is her archery skills ) and unfortunately for everyone she tends to hide those insecurities behind a tough and apathetic mask

Trilli Bumbleroot - archfey warlock/bard forest gnome - lover of music, dancing, nature and village festivals, she's just a little gal who loves traveling, i'm still not entierly sure of who i want her archfey patron to be, but she took a contract when she left her village in order to have enough power to protect herself on the road. During her travels she eventually came across Delsys ( who wasn't born yet ) and Verbena's druidic order and she's been bestie with Verbena ever since and unfortunately for the other druids when the both of them put their mind together tomfoolery ensues

Verbena Ferngrass - Wood elf druid - high bimbo of the same druidic order that raised Delsys ( and she kind of sees her as a little sister ) she's a big extrovert, a big flirt, she values her personal freedom and fun above all else, she thinks with her vag and is always pulling Delsys into all kind of situations™ She considers Trilli to be her best friend ( and they kiss sometimes )

Vetra - Githyanki war cleric of Vlaakith - soft and curious soul who's been battered and hardened by her training as both a warrior and a priestess, now that she's in faerun she starting to feel a bit more free to be explore and connect back to the parts of her personality she had to hide behind her now no-nonsense tough persona

Kastyn Firebeard - warrior/maybe paladin ( haven't decided yet) - mercenary coming from a blacksmith family, don't have much of a backstory for her yet :') just that she was disatisfied about her life in the mercenary group she was a part of, mostly because she had no control over the missions they took, and those missions sometimes went agaisnt her moral code

Healstra Ssiwin - lolth drow Sorceress - Bit on the fence about her story and personality :'x i'm not sure why exactly she chose to go to the surface,i initially made the Astromancer robes mod for her, so i had in mind that she wanted to see and study the stars but idk, i'll think i'll need to document myself on drow a bit more to get better ideas :'D

Cyn Clarilieu - my EA tav, basic noble human turned paladin ( is now tall and buff thanks to the full release Bodytype 3 ❤️) good aligned, annoyingly too self-righteous at times

Shani Cotton - Halfling rogue - Street urchin turned criminal in Baldur's gate lower city, magpie brainded if-it-shiny-i-want-it ,quite loose morals so she doesn't care if she has to kill or maim to obtain what she wants

Oriann Aleviir - my co-op tav, half drow - cringefail 8 dex blew-her-own-face-off-with-fire-spell wild magic sorcerer, terrified for her life 24/7 and will make every bad choices out of fear and gullibleness ( highly manipulable, will probably end up a squid as a result )

I was just rewatching some Loki episodes last night and I’m in love with the idea that our Loki is just like. The most lame cringefail Loki variant out there. An absolutely pathetic wet noodle of a Loki. Can’t do anything right for shit. Gets beaten up constantly. His only magical abilities are “make pretty fireworks ooooo shinyyy :D” while every other Loki is out here enchanting minds and casting illusions of entire cities - and actually outwitting Thanos, for christ’s sake. i go to WCL (west coast collegiate baseball) games during the summer when it isn't too hot. my mom's work usually has employee events and sometimes we get season tickets. i will not say which one because their stadium is literally like right next to my house

there's two WHL (western hockey league, kids 16-20) teams close-ish (95+ minutes away) to me, one i've gone to see a handful of times but with the snow and it getting dark really early now it's hard (and they traded the goalie i imprinted on 😫). the tri city americans and wenatchee wild are so 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 they're my babies

i try to watch every toronto maple leafs game i can. unfortunately they are the cringefail NHL (national hockey league, north american men's professional) team i imprinted on. sometimes i will watch a vancouver canucks or seattle kraken game if i'm feeling up for it. kailer yamamoto on the kraken is a semi-local to me and he is 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 so baby

I typed up a full explanation before my tumblr crashed because there was so much I put

upon the second time typing this I realize that it’d probably be much quicker for me to get past the context

OKAY TL;DR my friends and I are part of this campaign in a system called Anime Campaign which is also tied to the series Epithet Erased and we’ve been obsessing over it for about three years now even though nothing has actually started yet.

basically, some people have these things called Epithets and they’re random words tied to a person that lets them do cool stuff, yeah. like, someone in the campaign has Project as an Epithet. she can like, make film-style projections that come to life. it’s very cool!!

So Missy. Missy. Missy is my character. She originally started off as a silly evil NPC the first time we tried to start a campaign but I grew attached and started playing her as a PC in this one. Her Epithet is Concept. There’s a whole lot of complicated nuance surrounding how it actually works but bottom line is she can make things act like other things if people believe that, conceptually, the two things are one in the same. Like making plastic money act like real money, which is something she definitely does not do frequently she is a very honest person and not at all scamming people what are you talking about.

So she was silly!! She was so so silly!!! Basically played up the goon bit of “yeah boss” and all that. She was also a massive theater nerd, and made an active effort to ensure that literally nobody could forget that she was an actor and she knew several plays and shit. So when the most recent attempt at starting a campaign came around, I started thinking to myself, “hm. yeah, missy’s funny… but why is she funny?”

So. Miss Direction (not her actual name) was an actor. Or she was learning to be an actor, at least. Absolutely loved the stage. And she was a really charming person, too!! But then for reasons I SADLY CANNOT ELABORATE ON HERE BECAUSE I KNOW THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE FOLLOWING ME AND WE’RE PLANNING ON KEEPING THE MAIN BITS OF OUR BACKSTORIES SECRET she eventually booked it halfway across the country to this coastal city, Gallenset Gulf.

And she’s like “hhhhhouGHGGGGGHFUCK my life is RUINED” because of said nondescript Horrors™️ in her backstory that I cannot elaborate on and she’s kind of like. Not doing good. At all. She’s really shaken by the whole thing. Like it’s bad. She basically comes to the conclusion that she’s a horrible person for leaving and eventually gets roped into working for these small time criminals because (because of The Horrors™️) she’s technically a wanted criminal herself now.

So she works for them for a while, until she gets noticed by this woman named Ritz. K. Ritz, to be exact. Terrifying woman. Has a lot of “Hell” symbolism surrounding her for obvious reasons. You know the hound thing? The hound thing I mentioned in the last post? This is where that comes in. Hounds of hell, dogs of war, however you cut it. Ritz basically looks at this pathetic woman and goes “yeah, you know that stuff you said about you being horrible? You’re right. You’re totally evil. Like, holy shit, you’re bad. I’m worse though, so why don’t you work for me and you can go be a lot more honest with yourself.” AND IT WORKS.

After that, she ends up developing this whole brand around herself and takes up the Miss Direction moniker. She does some freelance work as a henchperson for a while and plays up the “VERY EVIL” gimmick to get more business and gets fairly far because she treats it more like a show, than anything. And she’s cunning, too! Really smart!! Absolutely PERFECT hitman material!

Right now, she’s basically easing off the gas and taking a bit of a breather by the time the campaign starts. Most of her attention has gone towards her startup (HenchPeople Incorporated, or H.I.P. for short because she’s a bad guy and doesn’t listen to the rules of acronyms) and she’s absolutely horrible and I love her so so so much.

She’s a dog person. She sings while she works. She failed to intimidate a kid one time and said kid turned around with a nat 20 and completely and utterly disgraced her. She constantly changes her name. Her jacket is this weird fucking white trenchcoat with baroque trim for some reason. She has an irrational hatred of Julius Caesar (the show). I absolutely adore her

wow its been awhile. i have 57 and 58 t&m in my drafts unfinished bc of some irl nonsense i was dealing with but we’re back on the train now. i hope. aabria’s discussion of deanna’s afterlife gave me a new fic idea that i’ll have to follow up on later.

anyway. we’re coming back to team hells! i know they’re officially AOL but team bells and team hells just works too well. whatever happens this episode is going to be so great. i can’t wait to see what matt has concocted in this time. i hope we have the time for taliesin to explain what ashton was doing on their day off. not placing any bets on guests because old or new, whoever it is is going to have to match the incredible energy that aabria and christian gave to the team bells wildemount arc. just as deanna and frida had plothooks for chetney and fcg’s pasts in particular, i hope that whoever’s coming on will have some kind of link to dig into ashton’s backstory a little more and maybe get into the ashari/hishari part of his and orym’s background.

from what i can tell, this 3rd arc is all about uncovering lore--the new state of the world and the plans that led to it along with the backgrounds of core bells hells and their new friends. i’m really hoping for a good lore finding character--while orym’s fantastic perception is gamebreaking, i think they need someone for investigation/arcana. maybe laudna will get proficiency in arcana from having delilah in her head/unpicking the remnants? that would be good bc these three only have +1.

this group is also currently melee heavy; most of the spellcasters went to wildemount. i hope they can strike a good balance--maybe get some hybrid classes to work with them? e.g. ranger, paladin, artificer. i had thoughts about orym multiclassing into either of the first two, but i think orym is staying a fighter.

very different energy as we get into this side of bell’s hells. communication is going to be a sticking point--ashton and denise are both very insular and private, bor’dor and prism are both new to the situation in varying ways that will really affect the future of the party, and laudna and orym are kind of taking the lead on the social interactions for the party and easing the way through this unprecedented scenario.

laudna’s compartmentalizing hard. ashton is at least letting his anger out. the lightning bolt situation was super frazzling for orym and everyone. i hope that they have the chance to actually sit down after this battle.

i have a feeling that this is really going to bring out different facets of the people we already know, and i hope they have the opportunity to relax the way that team bells did. if it’s formulaic, i think they might head for the nearest big city, then go to traverse toward marquet and maybe hit the hishari village and/or ivaadel on the way.

so um. first off. bit of context about his existence. since hero's a college fellow who seems to be living on campus, he'd probably be dealing with a dormmate of sorts, so i made said dormmate an oc,,, and that's monty, folks

i actually initially wrote monty as an easy way to eventually introduce hero in my fic at an earlier time because it'd be. a pain for that to happen naturally without something else there to move it along. even tho sunny's moved to nearby and hero's college campus is in that city it'd be. pretty difficult for them to meet naturally. lmao

...but i wound up just getting attached to monty so he's my son now. i'm still ofc writing him in the fic i just love him a lot

okay with all that out of the way,,, let's go into his actual character

monty's like. real clumsy. a klutz if you will. don't let him near the kitchen. i already wrote it in the fic but he infamously almost set the whole dorm on fire by trying to microwave a burrito. hero had to take responsibility for it

he's very cringefail. he gets no bitches. this is the good year 1995 though so he needs bitches. but he feels nothing toward the bitches. but. society. it is a painful cycle

monty's a whole fucking nerd(tm), if this story took place in the modern day then he'd be able to explain to you the entire kingdom hearts plot in excruciating detail. or fnaf lore. or metal gear lore. if a media's lore is complicated as hell, give him some coffee and about 20 minutes and he'll figure it out

he likes playing games!! card games, board games, video games, any kind, really. though he's usually stuck playing alone...

they've been roommates for about i think a year? by the time of the game? but monty and hero aren't exactly friends. they haven't talked much throughout that first year. you could barely call them acquaintances. monty doesn't even know about hero's nickname!!! he just calls him henry

they would've started to talk more once hero came back from faraway though. he'd be a bit down given uh. the fact that his friend got hospitalized. so monty would've tried to cheer him up. he prolly suggested visiting sunny in the hospital

and things did get a bit better. until. the truth. you can see how that would've been right here

i love pavitr and i wish he got more screen time he was so silly. beloved character. dear to me. i love his entire rant abt chai. that was so good. and hobie!!!!!! silliest dude. love the anarchist brit. i love how he like kind of does fuck-all in almost every scene he is in yet simultaneously is the most chaotic dude in the room. respect. he is also very dear to me and i look forward to seeing more of his dimension in the next movie <3 gwen is so tgirl btw. like her entire dimension is mostly blue-pink-white and purples???? and in the entire conversation with her dad it's all blue-pink-white in the background??? and her entire "the people i love can only know half of me!" like ?!?!??! ? AND WHEN HE ACCEPTS HER THE ENTIRE SCENE TURNS ONLY WHITE AND PINK?????? i love her dearly. gwen deserves the world btw. miles was !!! ough i love seeing his growth. going from being all cocky and confident to terrified of what's going to happen like. he's still a child even if he has to act as a grown up !!!! ough. spot being the most cringefail wet pathetic villain and then going to actually being terrifying was one of the best villains yet btw like. he goes from the most wet and pathetic guy to actually downright terrifying and i love that for him. #growth.

ALSO MIGUEL. Miguel's motif reminds me a lot of Prowler's? like it lacks that sharp synth-y sound that Prowler has in his theme but the underlying sense of unease and danger is so similar. i think miguel is going to be a villain in the next movie tbh. he seems kind of... i dunno. like he's holding on too tightly and believes the only right way is his way?

anyway. loved seeing gwen assemble everyone in the end :) peter and mayday!!!! noir and peni !!!!!!! spiderham !!!!!! hobie and pavitr and spider-byte!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's going to be so fun in the next movie i think. and god i look forward to seeing noir and peni again i ADORE them

Anyway Gwen's world is def my favorite, I love the aquarelle texture and how it's the world in which the color affects the environment the most. My favorite scene is the one where she confronts her dad, the way you can see her hair turning pink and blue and how at the end all the colors become warmer and GHHHFRFHR I love her so much.

For those of you curious, Icaria is referencing the Yogscast's Shadow of Israphel, with Icaria being the destination Simon and Lewis were going when the series stopped (discontinued, rip). So yeah <3 I LITERALLY WOKE UP IN A FRENZY AT 4 AM to frantically message Stitch, who was SLEEPING at this time, "OH MY GOD IC A RI A-" and then some other stuff I can't share lmao

SOMEONE FINALLY MENTIONS IT HAHAHAHA I was so hoping someone would notice if I put the chapters with the memory Eclipse and the lullaby next to each other <3 I wrote that entire chapter like "I wonder if anyone will notice" JKFHSKFHSJK Gods I can't wait to get to talking about that :)

[I hate that but I will accept it, once the characters learn its name I shall begin to spell it correctly] So fun fact I did not realize I apparently wrote the Ancient City reveal scene in one of the most horrifying ways I could have, I sent Stitch a message like "someone just said Icaria is terrifying/gonna keep them up tonight" and Stitch just went "UH YEAH BECAUSE IT IS" LMAO But I definitely wanted that "things are slowly getting worse though the characters don't realize it yet" and shift into the slow dawning realization of what's happening and then WHAM ANCIENT CITY and just. <3 I'm so glad it hit right <3 ... Not as much danger as Scar :) (Spoiler alert, you will strangle me for One Specific Scene in the next chapter)

Obscure Tolkien Blorbo: Round 1

Eldacar of Gondor vs Gwindeth

Eldacar of Gondor:

The twenty-first King of Gondor, also known as Vinitharya. During his reign the conflict known as the Kin-strife occurred and he was forced from his throne for ten years.

The blorbo of all time actually. He’s the protagonist of one of the most interesting stories in the LoTR appendices, the Kin-strife, and everything about his life story is so fascinating! His father was the crown prince of Gondor and his mother was the princess of Rhovanion so not a Númenorean. As a result all the racist nobles of Gondor made noises about how Eldacar was of “lesser race” and wouldn’t live as long as a “true Dúnadan”. One of the most fascinating examples of fantasy racism in Tolkien’s works imo – the bigotry is awful but the bigots have a shield to hide behind! Obviously their concerns are actually valid because they just don’t want their king to die young! (Their concerns aren’t valid. But I think the worldbuilding here is great.) Anyway Eldacar was born in Rhovanion and given the birth-name Vinitharya, but when he returned to Gondor aged five he was obliged to take up the Quenya name Eldacar, presumably to pacify all the racists in Gondor. He’s the EMBODIMENT of mixed-race/immigrant child trauma my beloved. Eventually his father died and he ascended to the throne of Gondor, but then his shitty second cousin Castamir (all my homies hate Castamir he’s the worst) started the civil war known as the Kin-strife and usurped Eldacar’s throne. Eldacar was forced to flee north to Rhovanion but Castamir captured his eldest son Ornendil and had him cruelly put to death which is SO SAD. But Eldacar, being brave and resourceful and clever and extremely cool, put together an alliance with his mother’s kinsfolk in Rhovanion and after ten years reclaimed his throne, which turned out to be slightly easier than expected because Castamir was The Worst and all his subjects hated him. And Eldacar PERSONALLY fought and killed Castamir HIMSELF and AVENGED HIS SON which is extremely important when you consider all the cringefail elves in the legendarium whose quests for revenge didn’t really go anywhere at all. Then he lived to be 235 proving that all the idiot racists who were worried about his lifespan didn’t have any idea what they were talking about, as is par for the course with racists. Also the Kin-strife itself has such far-reaching consequences for the history of Gondor! The Corsairs of Umbar, Gondor’s long-standing enemies, are actually followers of the descendants of Castamir. And during the Usurpation of Castamir Osgiliath was sacked and burned, leading to the beginning of its decline as Gondor’s greatest city. Even though Eldacar’s story is, to me, ultimately hopeful, it’s also such a fascinating turning point in the history of Gondor. Also ALSO he’s explicitly surrounded by textual ghosts which is really fascinating. His father Valacar has “children” plural – so Eldacar had siblings!! What were they like? How did they react to it all? And his son Aldamir is described as Eldacar’s second son and third child, meaning that he had a daughter too. Who was she?? What happened to her? He’s such a blorbo and there’s so much interesting stuff to dig into around him and he has to win this entire tournament please please please ❤️

Gwindeth:

A spirit who watched over lake Evendim and the surrounding Anorian ruins in the LOTRO game. She was also known as “The Blue Lady of Nenuial”

Discworld Reviews: The Colour of Magic

First review and first novel of the Discworld series! With 41 books in the series this sure is going to take me a while.

Since I haven’t read other books written by Terry Pratchett alone, (sidenote: I have read Good Omens but since it’s a collab with Neil Gaiman, I don’t consider it a contender, good book though) I can’t really compare his non-Discworld work to that of the Discworld. I have, however, already read Going Postal, as it was the only Discworld book that the library had available at the time.

Now! Onto the Colour of Magic!!

First off. This is Terry Pratchett’s first Discworld novel and was published in 1983. So, lots of world-building to be done. And boy, a lot of world-building sure happens. SO MANY CHARACTERS!!! Many of which I think you never hear from again. 

Here is where the Original Cringefail™️ Wizard (or Wizzard) Rincewind is introduced and he’s probably my favourite (so far). He’s, as far as I’m aware, one of the longest running characters of the Discworld series and really, at some point, a poor man just wants to be left alone to be cringefail™️ by themselves. 

Also! This is where the city of Ankh-Morpork is introduced (along with the River Ankh, which I personally believe is a character in its own right) along with lots of other cities but really Ankh-Morpork is the only one to remember.

Death is introduced here, along with the other important character to remember, Twoflower, which personally I find mildly annoying but others seem to find his enthusiasm and endless positivity a lovely thing to behold, so who’s to say. ALSO, can’t forget The Luggage!

Honestly, regarding the plot........I can’t tell you what happened. 

Things happened, lots and lots and lots of things happened and the entire book feels like one of those teacup rides where you get on and you say, everytime “I’m not going to spin it as fast as I can, I just get sick” but then it starts spinning and the urge grips you. So you grip that little circle and you start spinning it. 

Someone in the teacup with you is trying to stop you but you’re not going to stop. And everything is blurring around you but you can kind of make out the details of the people and things as they whip past you and then....suddenly the ride is over.

 Yeah, that’s kind of what The Colour of Magic is like. 

Do I recommend it as a starting place for getting into the Discworld series?  NO. Not unless you’re me and you’re reading in order.

Do I recommend reading it? EHHHHH, yes. If only to see where it all began.

john constantine / constantine (2005) - bastard first, exorcist second. more or less doomed depending on how you look at it. vague with timeline. *brendan frye / brick (2005) - grimy noir detective in modern day and very sunny san clemente, california. generally set a few years post-movie at minimum where he's grown up and has not gotten better. *bruce wayne / the batman (2022), batman: unburied, several comics of my specific choice - the prince of gotham and the bat. generally played later in his life, in his thirties or forties, where he's figured it out but still has a plethora of psychological issues. chani / dune films + book inspo (2021 -) - you know, i love when we make chani into a real character. anyway arrakis is Her planet actually and she did turn away from that holy war. also, she has every right to be blowing up the spice harvesters actually. irulan corrino / dune films + book inspo (2021 -) - i'm still sort of spinning around everything with her but by god do i need her devious little brain. and her willpower on things. she's not a good bene gesserit but she is an excellent political figure.

number five / the umbrella academy (2019-), canon divergent - ex-temporal assassin turned grumpy teleporting world saver. not really interested in the show's time looping thing. way more interested in revenge. *charlie cale / poker face (2023 -) - basically girl columbo but not a cop. blue collar detective extraordinaire. can be set basically anywhere with how far she travels. *dominique dipierro / mr. robot (2015-2019) - miserable lonely fbi agent, socially incapable, completely consumed by her work (unless she's not). generally set post-canon, but i can play around with this.

harry dubois / disco elysium (2019) - pile of neuroses and complexes in the shape of a man. irrepressible miracle. tequila sunset. i can play around and put this whenever. kim kitsuragi / disco elysium (2019) - most straight-laced lieutenant in revachol. extremely uncool unless he is standing next to harry dubois, at which point he becomes the coolest guy in the area. whenever in canon. *james savage / el paso, elsewhere (2023) - monster hunter turned vampire all because of a toxic ex. noir protagonist. recovering addict. full of the troubles. generally post-game, but you can play around whenever. *saga anderson / alan wake 2 (2023) - fbi agent caught in alan wake's horror story. descended from the old gods of asgard (both band and deity). has seer abilities and a steady hand with a gun. canon is... interesting here. we'd have to talk about it. karlach cliffgate / baldur's gate 3 (2023) - tiefling barbarian with an infernal engine in her chest that's going to erupt. fundamentally good person cursed by the narrative. literally deserves all the anger in the world, actually, even if letting herself feel it is dangerous.

jade daniels / my heart is a chainsaw (2019-) - final girl who doesn't think she's a final girl. horror movie buff. recovering from a truly horrific childhood, as much as one can. we can play around with timeline on this.

mabel martin / mabel (2018-) - girl on fire, girl with flowers growing out of her, not a girl at all but a mouth of many teeth. do not ask me about mabel podcast canon timeline. david ward / i am in eskew (2018-) - pathetic lonely cringefail history major who got trapped in a horrific city that fell in love with his pathetic vibes. might be a ghost. has a nightmarish reflection. probably post-canon unless your guy wants to end up in the city of eskew (not recommended for health and wellbeing).
