Personally I don't get the hype around cupid cats. I felt this way before flipside's callout but it did help cement my worry that the species is disorganized. Look, idgaf about proship antiship discourse, but i do think that if a group can do it to one guy they could do it to you too. even if you think you've only ever drawn the purest content and never caused trouble. It just doesn't inspire confidence that the mods are good at modding. And hi hod. Imo i disagree with your take, this is what toyhouse service reviews are for as this is poor organization and communication on the part of cupid cats.

I didn’t say the mods weren’t unprofessional lmao, and I did read the screenshots. I’m saying it’s cherry-picked bc where’s the screenshot of them giving the initial brief? And as for lying, p sure that’s when gutter said they only spoke to their partner irl instead of the full mod team? The lie being that they didn’t talk to the full mod team? And once again, I DO feel bad for the artists! This was terribly mismanaged and horribly executed, but this doesn’t mean gutter & co did so maliciously?

And once again, what was the point of the call out? It’s not for the benefit of artists, bc again I can see this being an issue going forward. “Oh you’re a GA for Unbleeders? Yeah sorry we don’t like that so we won’t work with you” If you can genuinely say that that won’t happen… well, I’m glad you’re so optimistic.

But yeah, I again would say that this is wildly overblown now, also by you anon. No one has specifically pulled the disabled, etc. card but I read it as rather a “hey we understand your struggle bc we have our own too” bc the artists in question brought their personal situation up. Of course, you can go ahead and read every little negative thing into what mods say, but cmon man, do you REALLY think this was a deliberate, malicious thing they did, and not just plain stupidity/incompetence?

(general) Creators of closed species act like gatekeepers, keeping their prized ""inventions"" and making others feel inferior. It's all about exclusivity, as if you're a member of some snobbish club. Not to mention the money-grabbing element, with prices being counted in three fucking digits. I'll calm down for this bit. There's both a positive and negative side to me seeing Arcane on Netflix that is related to me writing my AU. Let's talk about it

Upside: I feel like i ended up predicting the show! And it played out SO WELL for Arcane and the development of all characters, plots, and dynamics for literally everyone in the show. I feel so amazed that my ideas for my upcoming projects related to CS-BLANK-AU ended up showing up in such a life changing show such as Arcane

Downside: Now that Arcane has released such an amazing piece of media, i feel like i'm stealing my own plans because someone beat me to it. It feels selfish of me to feel this way. Yes the context is different for Arcane and CS-BLANK-AU, Yes they're different in their own ways, but i can't help but feel like i'm stealing and that i was stolen from.

I understand that nobody owns ideas and that people are capable of having the same ideas without ever knowing someone else had the idea. But this had taken a mental toll on me because of the fact that this both proves that my skills (in the context of Art and Writing) and creative thinking are at the very least, good; and that Arcane is amazing in all the ways ineffable to me and has quite literally changed my life. (ESPECIALLY AS SOMEONE WHO DEEPLY RELATES TO JINX.)

The worst part about this is that someone beat me to it. and now that Arcane is published, whatever i have already written for CS-BLANK-AU will end up looking like i just ctrl c + ctrl v'ed it from Arcane. Straight up plagiarism.

A project i've been working on solo since August 2023 will end up looking like a copied version of Arcane. I'm torn because of it.

Don't get me wrong, i still love Arcane with all my heart. i love the artworks, the animation, the storytelling, and the characters. honestly i love everything about it in such a deep level because of everything between the lines in it. But i can't help but feel hurt.

I won, but at what cost?

Some boy killed his mother because he watched a soap drama, two girls stabbed their friend because of slenderman. Does that mean everyone poses the same risk? No it doesnt. Tv shows, movies, stories, roleplay & kink are just fun.. its not that serious unless you already pose a risk which most people dont, its not based on their entertainment. Its based on them as individual people and your generalisation harms people, not help.

there are some underlying religious implications in the very core of the harry potter universe and stupid or not perverse or not they are certainly annoying for when you want to write any derivative work that is not aligned with the author's views

i'm thinking mostly about horcruxes and what exactly is the damage of having a fractured soul (something more than the very abstract idea, considering the series makes no effort in defining a soul...). it doesn't seem to be connected with a sense of self or sanity or moral balance (assuming it's already off by the decision of making a horcrux, actually having them won't make anyone more inclined to immorality), the only side effect appears to be the ugly crying baby harry sees at the halfway stage of afterlife and what that suggests for me is the incapacity of crossing over to Death with a capital D, or a split soul condemned to eternity in limbo (limbo as purgatory? or hell in the sense of ultimate punishment?)

the notion of heaven and hell is a very christian one, obviously, and a lot from the series is taken from christian costumes, but secularized (like christmas and easter). i won't attempt any theological analysis because i haven't been religious in years and there's a lot a need to study, but i can say for sure that regret and penitence as means of salvation is also a very christian idea, and it's all that takes to repair a soul (and conquer eternal life?). it's funny how very low demand it is and how intangible, but the narrative frames redemption by this criteria: snape and draco switches sides, regulus has a change of heart and sacrifices himself, grindelwald repents in prison and dies a different man (catholicism, if i'm not mistaken, demands faith and charity, something that you know in your heart and something you do for others)

another thing which is considered a perversion in universe is killing and consuming a unicorn, not for any even vaguely material reason (toxins! magical property!), but because they're so pure that violating them is a sin, similar to real examples of eating restrictions existing in some religions. whatever is the meaning of this purity

and the lack of specifications is not what bothers me — the power of love, the deathly hallows, prophecies are all very poorly explained — because i think mysticism and superstition in a magical universe are actually pretty interesting and those are some my favorite bits of worldbuilding

but rather i'm annoyed by the books having references to religion and specifically to christianism 1) so casually laid out, like the school calendar following christian holidays, which is just lazy 2) so linked to crucial ideas of good and evil in the narrative, but in a way that is so completely secularized that feels dishonest because you cannot escape the concept of a soul & this version of an afterlife & a very particular view on death and redemption, and yet all of it is vague and abstract, like the absence of a explicit religion makes it all an uncontested true and the default view of every single character

I think you're confused about AB period. Because it makes sense for a huge batch to have an AB preclaim period, turn it off, do rolls, and THEN open AB's back up after everyone has rolled. They didn't communicate that they just turned it off completely without telling the artists shit so obviously they were confused lul?
