The one habit i picked up from the old meaner blog helped me detach from the cs community... just right click and save the images of designs i felt fomo for. I saved so many designs that i felt strongly for in the moment. It scratched the itch in my brain enough that i stopped feeling like i wanted my name on all those masterlist entries.

I just like looking at them, sorting them in my file folders like an isolated simulation of toyhouse. And when i stop getting dopamine from them i just delete them, no trade/sell hassle, no worrying about getting what i paid back bc lol i paid nothing to save a png.

people who say "just leave" when someone complains about a cs don't understand the concepts of process addiction or the sunk cost fallacy. cs as a whole profits off of the mental vulnerability of people, it's the process addiction piece. when you tell someone to "just leave" a cs, you're essentially saying "just stop being swayed by the manipulative facets of this and leave". it's not always that simple. please let's be kinder as a whole to people who have found themselves in a hard situation.

speaking as a huge fan of the guy (to put it mildly...) i can't stop thinking about how much it sucks that gray's character arc is lowkey the only thing the cs finale actually wrapped up in a satisfying way. not that it couldn't have been better, obviously, but apart from feeling rushed i think it was pretty much as strong and thoughtful a conclusion as they could have pulled off in five minutes like that. meanwhile everything else in the episode is equally rushed but seriously lacking in substance by comparison and i'm like... come on man. what are we doing here? what's this show called again i'm pretty sure it's not Graham Calloway

Tagging @naffeclipse and @sunnys-aesthetic since it's y'alls au/aus (if that wasn’t okay please let me know!), I hadn't read Sleuth Jesters prior to making this, very much enjoyed what I did get through before I started writing, hope I did your characters/story some justice! 

I made a few little tweaks to stuff just to fit more with the storyline I was going for (the characters are the same, just some small plot things are adjusted) but obviously Sleuth Jesters and the Detective Au belong to the respective lovely people mentioned up above ^-^

Small content warning for a tiny bit of blood mentions and oil protrayed as blood mentions, nothing super major, just adding to the overall spooky vibe.

I've seen people share their success stories about leaving CS/OC communities.

I thought I'd share mine.

I'll put it like this. I put $30k approximately into OCs and CS. Yep.

Out of all the stuff I bought?

I only kept approximately....$6k worth.

Let that sink in.

The rest of that money? I barely made anything back. I'm still selling a lot right now.

One thing that helped me was coming to terms with this:

"Just because I like the look of it doesn't mean I NEED to own it."

I can appreciate it by itself.

Another one that seems really fucking obvious.

You CANNOT buy yourself into a community where you feel included and appreciated. You CANNOT buy friendship.

After mainly leaving CS/OC, I saved enough money to get a new fucking car. That's right. I GOT A NEW CAR!!!!

I took out a car loan of $13k and I've already paid $1700 of it within the first month. I have another $4k locked into an account that's accumulating interest. I have $2k approximately in savings.

Just earlier tonight, I was feeling that same temptation, wanting that dopamine hit while looking at a $250 succubun that looks pretty. My friend helped take the edge off by reminding me how much I saved by not buying expensive pixels anymore. And I really did.

For those that are struggling and want to get out, feel free to DM. I'm NOT a therapist, but I can offer some advice or give you the little push if you need it. Again, I'm not your therapist, so like...don't expect me to act like one and everything please.

What's the difference between beta and alpha? i noticed the alpha word count is included on the itch page. Also how do you decide what the numbers are for each version? Lol, sorry if that is a lot, I am trying to get into being a game dev but not sure what these really mean

hello! no worries at all, i can see how it may be confusing.

honestly i think each developer defines these things a little differently so it's really up to you.

as for how i am using them, the alpha version of the game is for my eyes only! it's the file i work in and doesn't get shared with anyone else. the beta has the extra content that isn't available yet. this is the version i use for playtesting and the one i share with beta readers. then the public version is last on pipeline, with the new shiny update and what has been edited etc :)

as for the version numbers i see them as this: game.update.patch. so right now chop shop is on 1.2.3; there's been 2 updates and 3 patches so far. 'update' is for when i add a chapter and 'patch' is for minor things like fixing mistakes, bugs etc. 'game' is reserved for if i do a major overhaul of the entire game (which i doubt will ever happen until the whole thing is completely done)
