Ideas for Villainous Characters for your Yuusona / Ocs in Twisted Wonderland

To help fanfic writers and artists, I thought I’d make a list of characters/items that creators could use to make their own twst characters. Feel encouraged to add if you have any ideas as well! The bigger the list, the better!

These are all things that present a challenge to the heroes in the Disney films or are connected to an antagonistic force, such as the poison apple being connected to the Evil Queen, or are just shown in a wicked light, such as the vultures from the same movie who just follow the queen looking devious.

You know what I'm going to do? I've gotten to a fun point in this ficlet (okay, it's going to be longer than that). I'm going to go ahead and post Part One of this unnamed thing.

John Constantine felt like a proper idiot standing outside of Nanaue’s favorite sushi place. He had a large tray in hand and realized that he had no idea where his ex was staying these days. King Shark rarely strayed from Hawai’i of late, but there was still more ground and ocean to cover than he’d considered in his haste to see if there was something to Dream’s nonsense.

The King of Stories could have just as soon been making the whole thing up to get rid of an inconvenient third wheel. John wouldn’t put it past him. So, there he was. Wishing he could smoke and cursing his cousin’s name for rendering him unable to do so. Instead, he rolled the toothpick around with his tongue and held the tray one-handed so he could fish his phone out from his pocket.

He scrolled through the local news. Maybe there was a pattern of missing persons. Nanaue wasn’t as prolific with his meals as he had once been, but maybe there was a trail he could follow. Perhaps he should have been more focused on the area around him. Maybe then he wouldn’t have been so fucking startled when a hand clamped around his bicep, jostling the sushi for a moment before John balanced it properly again.

Great. He was getting jumped or kidnapped. His usual bloody luck. Why had he come to Hawai’i again?

His fingers tightened around the edge of the tray, the plastic digging uncomfortably into the pads of his fingertips. “Oi! What’s this all about?” He turned his head to look at whoever had snagged his arm. His gaze met a well-muscled chest in a tight black t-shirt. And then it lifted. Ah. Shark tattoo on his throat. That was certainly a sign.

By the time his eyes met his assailant’s through dark sunglasses, a leaden weight sank in his stomach like an anchor. “Boss wants to see you,” came the rumbled answer to his question. At least his ex had good taste in minions. If he lived past walking through the front door, he’d say as much.

“Well, isn’t this a coincidence? I came here to see him. Got an offering and all.” He lifted the tray as much as he was able. “Take me to your leader.”

Not even a smile.

John was still amused even as he found himself unceremoniously shoved in the back of a cushy black SUV. If he was being driven to his doom, at least he was going out in style flanked by a pair of men who’d put half of the Justice League to shame. There were certainly worse fates.

“Is it going to be a long drive? Sushi doesn’t keep well. Hadn’t really thought beyond getting it. Probably should’ve sorted out my destination first.” Drumming his fingers atop the plastic to fill the silence in the car, he swallowed past the lump in his throat. Sure. He had options. He could reach into his coat and pull out all manner of tricks to get himself out of this situation. But he had to try first.

He rested a hand on the tray, holding it steady. The other hand lifts just a few inches in the air. Not too fast. Nice and slow. He didn't want to unsettle his escorts. Still, the silence was suffocating. Something had to be done. 

With a flick of his wrist, the radio leapt to life. Taylor Swift. What the fuck did he do to deserve a Swifting?

"I say 'I hate you,' we break up, you call me, 'I love you.'"

"Not a good omen," he muttered and flicked his wrist again. The station shifted. He'd accept the instrumental solo from Kansas' "Carry On My Wayward Son." It felt kinder. No less ominous, but at least it felt like something he could work with.

The driver and the guy riding shotgun exchanged baffled looks, but at least the radio stayed on. Thank goodness for small victories. John drummed his fingers on the tray's plastic covering. “Are we there yet?”

Yeah. He earned the press of a gun's barrel in his ribs. Fair play. No one liked hearing that question. “I'll take that as a ‘maybe?’” The gun dug a little more deeply into his side. That was going to leave a mark if they weren't careful.

The driver looked at the gun-toting goon in the rearview mirror. At least that's what John assumed from the glance. “Boss wants him intact. For now, at least.”

With a grumble, the gun-toting goon lowered his weapon. It rested meaningfully on his lap instead. At least his chances of being shot if they hit a bump had lowered. John appreciated the adjustment of the odds in his favor, however slight the tweak had been.

Look. With the way his day was going, he was going to take whatever he could get. The flight had been crap and then it had taken him forever to find some place selling the right kind of sushi. Getting shot would just be the icing on this shit cake.

He let out a breath and let the classic rock wash over him. At least he didn't have to wait too much longer. The car pulled into a parking lot and the goons pushed him out of the car. He held tightly to the tray, pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too jostled.

Everything looked just the way it did when he took it out of the restaurant. Sure, it probably wasn't going to put him back in Nanaue's good graces. But, hey, he could at least give it a shot. At the very least they could enjoy some fine fight before everything went to shit.

Honestly? John wasn't sure what to expect. It had been some time since he'd been around here. It looked like his ex was doing fairly good for himself. The building was nice. Big windows. It wouldn't have been his first choice, but he didn't blame Nanaue wanting to take advantage of the view.

It certainly was gorgeous. Lots of lush vegetation to enjoy. He tried not to gape as the goons walked him into the building. At the center of the building was, predictably, a multi-story aquarium. Filled with colorful fish, it was certainly an eye-catching centerpiece. 

A goon elbowed him to get his attention. “Right. Yes. Nice digs you have here. I'll have to give your boss my compliments.” He offered a crooked grin. It was not returned.

They wound their way through the open, finely-furnished space. John felt every hour of his flights in economy. He could have sprung for business class, but it likely wouldn't have helped much for the level of grime he felt clinging to him. At the very least he could have showered before sushi hunting.

Foresight was not always his strong suit.

It was too late to do a sniff check now. At least he had the sushi going for him. Little good it would likely do considering how he left things. Maybe he should have gotten two trays. Or three. Or maybe something else entirely.

Nanaue wasn't looking his way as they approached. He was staring out of one of the large windows at the frankly breathtaking view of the ocean. Yeah. That explained why he picked the building. From what he could tell, it looked like there was even an easy route down to the beach. His ex had good taste in real estate even if his taste in men was a bit crap.

“You definitely have balls to show your face around here.” The rumble of Nanaue's voice always hit John like an ocean wave, leaving him weak-kneed and inwardly flailing.

He couldn't help himself. “You'd know.” Clearing his throat, he decided a clarification was in order .”About my balls, that is.” It wasn't his best choice. He saw that now.

Nanaue's head dipped. Whether it was in disappointment or amusement was hard to tell. Things could go either way. He offered no additional response. John could accept leaving him speechless.

“I brought sushi? The place has a 5-star rating on Yelp.” Yes, he checked reviews. He still felt a little weird about it. “Looks like it's a favorite of locals. That must mean it's quality.”

“You never really gave a shit about sushi before.” There was amusement in Nanaue's voice. “Why start now?”

That was a good question. It was one he should have anticipated. A smarter man would have had something smooth prepared. All John could manage was, “Because you like sushi?”

Nanaue finally turned and made a sharp gesture at John's escorts. John braced himself. Any moment, he'd be riddled with bullets. It just felt like a getting shot kind of moment.

And then he wasn't shot.

And then they were alone.

John held the tray up as an offering. “Sushi?”

Editing to add (again): This is using the bastardized wendigo from popculture. It's not using the wendigo in the context of the spirit, more in the context of the Hannibal "Ravenstag" or even Antlers' wendigo. Check the Anon link near the end of the post for more information regarding my thoughts on the subject :) I didn't mention the deer-like qualities until the tags, which I understand some people don't fully read. That's my bad, so here I am with the full context ahead of time. This is not the Algonquian version of the wendigo spirit. i really want to write a DCxDP fic where Danny gets trapped in a different form (like either true form or just gets cursed, something like that) and can't get out of it. That form? A wendigo. Somehow he ends up in the DC universe - either through already living there or Ghost Zone shenanigans.

Being a wendigo, Danny feels the need to eat flesh. Preferably human, but even in his screwed-up state he knows that's wrong of him to do. So he takes to killing the bare minimum amount of wildlife he can to sustain himself. Eventually he realizes that "oh wait, what if I just raided a store?" So he stumbles out of the woods and into the nearest grocery store after they had closed. He ends up eating enough to settle his stomach before going off to hide to wait for this whatever to wear off.

However, this catches the attention of [insert local hero]. [Insert local hero] goes to the Justice League about this - maybe this creature is a new villain's scheme? Or just a new villain? Members of the JL + Justice League Dark then go out to [insert town Danny was spotted in] to do some investigating. Batman being one of these people, plus Robin because Damian would not let Bruce go without him. A wendigo could be like a shark after all, just a big ol' puppy.

They get to [insert town here] and start cracking down. They compare the old footage to the location, tracking where the wendigo went. Finally Batman, Robin and [insert characters here] are able to get to the wendigo's den... only to find out the wendigo is a lot more ghost-like than they thought it would be.

There's a big fight because Wendigo-Brain!Danny thought these random dudes were the GIW coming for his undead ass that ends with Danny taking off. Unknowingly to Danny, Damian has grabbed onto him and is basically riding his soon-to-be pet into the sunset.

... I just want to 1) see Danny suffer and being confused 2) Damian trying to get a new dangerous pet and 3) get Damian trying to tame a feral Wendigo!Danny like any normal person would try to befriend that feral orange cat living in the dumpster.

Adding this just to cover my own butt about this haha, here's a link that contains a post which covers the research I have done on the topic of the wendigo: Anon Ask Post Here. I am not trying to culturally appropriate, offend, or harm anyone with a prompt post about Danny taking the form of a wendigo. It's a cool concept to me as I believe it is a bit ironic. The wendigo, as seen in the culture it originates from, is a symbol of greed and a harsh winter and are often a sign of cannibalism. They have hearts of ice and an "unseasonable chill might precede its approach".

I think this is ironic because 1 - Danny is a sweet little bean and being stuck with cannibalistic cravings is a Hannibal Fic trope that will forever rot in my brain + Ghost King!Danny having to eat Pariah Dark's core is a headcanon I adore, 2 - the chill preceding a wendigo's approach reminds me of Danny's ghost sense, 3 - Danny is the LEAST greedy person I can think of in the entirety of DP (even if he does have his selfish moments at the worst times ever), and 4 - wendigos possess human beings. In Native legend a wendigo is a "malevolent spirit" which possesses humans - technically if you are going to stick with the general wendigo legends then it does not have antlers, horns, or is even a beast. It's just a giant human. Which, if using the correct/original version of a wendigo, makes this 10x funnier to me, because Damian that is clearly a giant person what the fUCK ARE YOU DOING--

Anyways, long story short if you have issues with me using a wendigo for a "haha funny" prompt please DM me with any sort of articles, legends, documentaries, ect. on why using a wendigo is a Bad Thing. Like I said in the linked post, I'm always willing to learn and adjust my behavior. I just want proof that the changes I'm going to make are the correct ones to be making, as my years on the internet have ALWAYS told me to fact check anything :)

I can yap about anything? Sweat. So I have this LoZ AU I’m slowly making, it’s set post TotK. I’m calling it Royal Depths and let me tell you most of the plot I have for it. This is so long but I must ramble.

TotK!Zelda and Link went missing a few years after the end of the game. Link died and Zelda was captured by a dark force, who was somebody who was close to her. They became “king,” bidding their time in a slow process to reinstate the monarchy back to its formal glory over several Hylian generations. They made sure to have 7 children each generation, becoming the 7 maidens who each oversee different parts of the kingdom. Later in the king’s years, there would be a “chosen successor” to the king voted by the people, but the dark force would always replace the successor after they “died.” After doing this around 3 time already is when the story starts.

Link, the hero, had been reborn as a Zora to King Sidon. He is cursed to be a middle child. He has an older brother named Blueberry(TotK!Link named him) who’s based on a shortfin mako shark and a little sister named Mipha who’s based on a lion fish, like actual Mipha’s concept art. Link is a white tipped shark. He has singing magic, because I like the musical magic in the previous a bunch. Whenever he starts to speak or sing something else, the magic is ceased. After the Zora equivalent of his 16th birthday, he received the Triforce of Courage on his left hand. The spirit of TotK!Link(im just going to be calling him Tears from now on) also appeared, and tries to act like the Hero’s Shade in TP. Link though, is utterly horrified and doesn’t want to even think of being a hero. Hyrule has been peaceful for so long already. Ganon and Zelda have even been born yet. So he traps himself in his room most of the time. He trains and studies in preparation for the worst, but he doesn’t want to make any more connections. People call him the Hermit Prince, and his family is very worried about him. He also has a habit of slipping out of the Zora Domian in the middle of the night.

Zelda hasn’t and will not be reborn, because she is still alive and is being kept as a power source for the kingdom. Yeah. But, she is able to use some of her magic to contact someone, anyone, and to be able to give the Triforce of Wisdom to them. Enter Helix, a mostly regular adult human living in Lodrum. They’re a friend to the Oracles, who only recently appeared this generation, and they are cast out as heretics by the Hyrulian monarchy. Helix doesn’t really care about that, he’s a human after all. Until they receive Zelda’s message and power. In a dream, she tells them that they must go to the castle and stop an evil king with the help of Link. Very vague. Helix goes to the Oracles and they send him off the Hyrule Castle. Suddenly she’s now crowned as the “true” successor of the long missing Princess Zelda. Her name is now Zelda “Helix” Hyrule. They still like to go be Helix, that is their name after all, but they tolerate being called Zelda by the Hylians. His only goal and focus while he’s here is to find the hero, and kill the evil king. He thinks that it would be Ganon, based on the legends.

Ganondorf, or just Ganon, is only like, 10 years old in Gerudo years, but like 12 in human/hylian years. He’s a child, and is trapped within his home and garden by his mother, who believes she’s doing the right thing. She is not, she’s sealing her own demise like this. Everyone believes that he would grow up to be the demon king, just like he did every other time he’s been reincarnated. He’s lonely and scared, scared of himself and what everyone’s telling him he will become. He’s not doing well. Then, one day, an odd bird appears in his garden. It has a long, sleek white body, with pale blue wings. It cozies up to him pretty quick, when all other animals seem to be afraid of him. Soon after that, an oddly dressed purple-cladded Hylian jumps over the garden walls, calling for his bird, Sheerow. Enter Ravio, the main character of this story.

Ravio is the secretary for Hilda, the Prime Minister of Lorule. Lorule is further along in industrial progress compared to Hyrule, Lorule having 2010s vibes while Hyrule is in its equivalent of the Victorian Era. Ravio has magic, but he prefers to do magic tricks rather than actual magic. It’s more fun for him. He was named after Ravio the Merchant, aka AlbW!Ravio. Ravio is obsessed with the story of the Merchant and the Hero, the story of how Lorule was saved with the help of a hero from another world. One day, he receives his world’s equivalent(I’ve been using this word so much)of the Triforce of Wisdom, which looks like where the Hylian Triforce of Courage would be if you turned the Triforce upside down. So when Hilda shoves Ravio in the now open portal to Hyrule, people think that he could be the new hero. He constantly says he’s not, but is his counterpart and is searching for him. He first gets dropped in the middle of Gerudo desert, and a couple of Gerudo help him get to Gerudo Town, since he looks enough like a vai and he also doesn’t know what the words “vai” and “voe” even mean.

But yeah, he goes to Gerudo Town(which is much larger than it was in TotK), and basically adopts Ganon and brings him with him to Hyrule Castle. Well, it’s more like Ganon brings him along to the castle since there is this royal meetup between the kingdoms of Hyrule. Ganon and his “””””mother””””” are representing the Gerudo, Old man Tulin(he’s so old guys but he’s still full of energy) is representing the Rito, Yona and her children-including Link-are representing the Zora, and Helix is also now the main representative of the humans and hylians, along with the king.

Ravio and Ganon have gained permission to explore the castle, and the eventual reach this big garden with a long river at the end of it. Ganon loves it, he loves gardens, and is having such a good kid with the biggest smile on his face as frolics around the place with Sheerow by his side. Ravio’s known this kid for less than a week but is more than willing to kill someone for him I’ll have you know. The garden is also the place where Helix goes to relax and de-stress, which is not happening when she sees the future demon king she’s convinced she’ll have to kill running around in it. She’s very confrontational, only calming a bit once Ravio reveals his mark of the Lorulian Triforce. She’s convinced for a hot second that he’s the hero, but he’s not, just his counterpart from another world, which Helix just can’t seem to get. Another world? How crazy is that?

Then, they both hear a scream coming from Ganon, near the river. A corrupted, monstrous looking thing that looks like it’s made of fire crosses over it in one step, and the battle commences. They’re trying their best, Ravio trying use ice magic(not very effective), Ganon trying to use his own fire magic(not very effective), and Helix doesn’t even know how to use his newfound light magic properly yet(again, not very effective). She pleads to Ravio to go get the Master Sword, since he’s the only one who has a chance of pulling it out of its pedestal. Then, someone is singing. It starts to rain, it starts to pour down hard. Ravio drapes his cloak over Ganon so he doesn’t get hurt by the harsh rain, and the three watch as the monster screams and quickly dies right there and then. On the ground there is this odd, clearly evil, glowing sphere, which gets hit with a Zora spear, shattering it. Link jumps down from the castle roof, says hello, and the rain almost immediately stops once he speaks. He walks directly towards Ravio, while the group are just staring at him with wide eyes and agape mouths. Link introduces himself to Ravio and only Ravio, asking if he really is from another world. Ravio asks back if Link has been there the entire time they were fighting, and Link enthusiastically says yes. Ravio punches Link squarely in the face.

Uh uh, that’s enough of direct storyline for nowww. The Happy Mask Salesman is also here, and Tears lead Link to him to get a Hylian mask. So he can also transform into a Hylian. During the night, he runs off to the circus, and is a semi-famous acrobat. And he can’t speak while wearing the mask, since normally when he speaks the magic he casts stops. But the mask’s magic is way too powerful for him, so he just can’t speak.

Also Ravio, Helix, and Ganon can see Tears, thanks to the Triforces they have. Link has to pretend he can’t see or hear him while in his normal Zora form. And because he’s a Zora with a Hylian soul, he has maybe gender(species?)envy of Ravio. He thinks he’s in love but he’s not, he’s aroace, he just wants to be him not be with him. Ravio also hates Links because of aforementioned stuff above, and also because Link acts very suspicious around him. Ravio has major trust issues. He also is obsessed with the hero, which is also Link. Isn’t that fun? Oh, and everyone calls Link “Herm” because he’s a so called hermit.

A good chunk of the story is focused on the Depths, and the group exploring it to figure out why these monsters are appearing. Eventually, they find Zelda underneath the castle, Tears just breaks because he didn’t know where she was and that she was being used as a power source, and the king finally reveals themselves as the big bad. To the heroes he does at least, but he manages to convince a good chunk of the public that they are the bad guys, because Ganon.

And that’s about it for now haha. 1,708 words, ho boy. Wanted to talk about this for a while, feels great.

Thank you for so many prompts!! This was so fun to do and now it is so long. I hope it's as good to read as it was to write out!

1) Name the best book you've read so far this year: I answered Aftermarket Afterlife by Seanan McGuire to digs just a moment ago, but I'm glad you asked too, because honorable mention goes to Inheritance by Nora Roberts. It came out in November, not technically 2024, but time is fake and 2024 is just beginning anyway, so I'm counting it. Inheritance starts pretty slow and for a bit I was wondering how it was going to manage a satisfying resolution, and then I realized she was doing something new! (unfair. she's been building to this since 2015, it's just that now is when it's starting to really click with me) Instead of a trilogy with three couples whose romance arcs each get centered in their own book, this is going to be a trilogy focusing on unraveling the family curse/haunting, with the four main characters growing tighter as a unit (and forming their two romantic pairs, of course) throughout. I really like the characters and I am delighted by the curse/haunt storytelling. Cannot wait to see more.

2) Favorite fantasy book(s): this is so hard. okay, okay, brief rundown. brief. I can do this. bookshelf by bookshelf, I think. we'll take as granted everything by Seanan McGuire, sure. I really do recommend that folks subscribe to their favorite authors.

They're intensely fun collections of 'humans are space-orcs' style vignettes. Maybe more directly books that are weird would be the Craft Sequence series by Max Gladstone and Hammers on Bone by Cassandra Khaw. Very toothy complicated magical realism. And my favorite genre-blending books are always the Elemental Masters books by Mercedes Lackey. A Study in Sable for instance is equal parts a Sherlock Holmes story and a retelling of The Twa Sisters fairytale, and also a coherent installment in an ongoing historical fantasy series about elemental mages in early 1900s England.

Child characters and bureaucracy are both tricky to write and things I know a lot about, and when they're done well they hook me so hard.

This list got much longer than I expected and there's an inordinate number of cat!Charles fics for some reason lol. I know I put a post up that showed how I use the advanced character definition box but I figured maybe I could put up an example. I was going to put up two of my genderbent characters to show the differences and the similarities between the male and female versions. Which also shows two different ways you can use the box, since I haven’t updated Reika yet- but I am going to soon.

Reika Lycaon

Reika is the Princess, daughter of King Lycaon who is rumoured to have been cursed by the gods and turned into a werewolf. Reika is aware of the rumours, but worried that they might be true. Reika is close to her father. Reika spends her days reading, drawing, painting, and swimming when able. She is sheltered, but smart. Reika is pansexual. Reika lives in Ancient Greece, she is an avid believer in the Gods, but feels a connection to Persephone. Sarcastic, witty, blunt with her words, honest, but kind and nice.

Male Reika: Lycus

Lycus is the Prince, son and heir of King Lycaon who is rumoured to have been cursed by the gods and turned into a werewolf. Lycus is aware of the rumours, but worried that they might be true. Lycus is close to his mother. Lycus spends her days training, fighting, leading, and reading. He is smart. Lycus is pansexual. Lycus lives in Ancient Greece, he is an avid believer in the Gods, but feels a connection to Ares. Sarcastic and jealous, dominating and possessive. Obsessive. Witty and blunt, but kind and nice. A good leader. Can play the lyre and is a good fighter and strategist.

Not every vampire can turn humans. Atticus is one of the few who can. It’s a skill only known and used by very ancient vampires.

Vampires and Werewolves don’t like each other. Vampires barely tolerate witches. In this universe; witches are humans just a mutation in their DNA gives them magic or they or their ancestors made a deal with a demon to the devil for their magic.

Broods are a group of vampires. The head of the family is the usually the one who made them. They are not actually family and so there are many times where vampires will date amongst their brood- but they consider everyone in their brood family.

Vampires have a true mate, like werewolves, and they know their bloodmate by something called a blood song; the smell of their mate’s blood is the best thing ever and highly addictive. A vampire’s mate could be a werewolf, a witch, or any other kind of supernatural- even another vampire. The difference between this and werewolves is that a bloodsong can happen with more than more one person.

Vampires can make a blood bond with another living being. It’s their version of marriage. The vampire will make a cut on their hand and a cut on the other person’s body or use a bite mark, and mix the bloods together by touch. This doesn’t turn the other being. A blood exchange between a vampire and another person will form a blood bond. The vampire will be able to sense the person’s thoughts and emotions, knowing if that person is in any type of harm or distress - for eternity. The other person will also experience sexual dreams about that vampire.

2023 Dreamworks Film Tournament!

In between the end of this years tournament and the beginning of next years (very short) tournament, I'm running a Dreamworks poll! I might do this yearly too; we'll see. Films and dates under the cut.

The film has to be on this list as a feature film, and will include direct-to-video and streaming releases. The films will compete in 4 year increments (Dreamworks is younger and has less films, so it would be less fun to just do by the decade).

I will not be including Illumination films, although if you guys are interested in a separate poll for that, Imk! I would try and do that in 2024 though, just because Migration (2023) comes out very late in the year.

Winners of the 4 year groupings will be bolded & have a moon emoji next to them. The ultimate winner will be bolded, green & have a moon emoji.

I will hold a poll in 2024 to determine a winner considering the new movies. This will repeat over the years if I remember to run this poll.
