a year and a half ago, i was in the throes of my Danny Phantom obsession. completely unrelated to this, i had undiagnosed OCD and anxiety out the wazoo. i was a high schooler at the time, and i would on occasion spend entire class periods vividly imagining how i would react in the event of a school shooting, running through endless iterations of different scenarios of how i could run or hide or fight to survive. my fears weren't entirely unfounded (my high school was definitely... something... and i still wouldnt be entirely surprised if a shooting happened there), which was absolutely not a help in terms of the aforementioned OCD/anxiety.
so obviously, like any other mentally ill nerd child, i channeled all these anxieties into a vent fic, which was at the time my longest prose fic ever. i published it anonymously in 2022 and got a small wave of comments at the time, and since then it's been mostly left to gather dust in the ao3 archives.
ive been considering taking it off anonymous for about a year now, but i never felt fully comfortable with doing so. now that i'm out of high school, though, i would like to have that fic attached to my ao3. it's tonally way different than my usual crack/humor fics, but it represents an important time in my mental health journey. i wrote it to work myself through those scenarios i would spend hours rolling over in my head, to fully realize for myself what a flight/freeze/fight situation could look like. the phandom was just the medium through which i decided to tell that story, and i greatly appreciate it for that.
anyways. i probably didn't have to write all of this, but it would have felt strange just dropping a two-year-old vent fic on yall without some sort of warning. here's Harmless.

I feel like my entire university class during finals this year is all on edge, because we have yet to have an ‘final exam season’ without a school shooting scare of some sort. I hate America.

goofy's trial - bimbo!reader x simon
a/n: a quick little blurb based on a thing from my bimbo!reader x simon playlist. please go listen to the thing for context. cw: mentions of a school shooting - the whole audio is a joke. if you get mad about the joke; cry about it to someone who cares. i'm american, i can enjoy the joke without guilt. tagging: @yawnderu bc of our conversation about it. words: 124 [ yeah it's short, idc ]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"hey, lovie. I gotta show you this" simon stated, pulling out his phone and going to spotify. he went to your guys shared spotify account, and to the liked songs playlist. he scrolled all the way down towards the bottom of the list and tapping on something called "goofy's trial"
it's almost over - almost 2 minutes in - and you're just dying of laughter. "The demons told me to!" you repeated, in your best goofy impression before starting to die of laughter again.
He just smiled slightly, happy knowing he found something that made you laugh - not knowing that this was going to backfire on him because you end up showing it to gaz & soap, which opens up a whole new can of worms.

hey uhhh big fucking reminder;
IF YOU SUPPORT AND WOOBIFY REAL LIFE MURDERERS AND SHOOTERS GET OFF MY BLOG. I and im sure the majority of the slasher fandom can say we do not support this type of shit. slashers are completely fictional and the deaths within those movies are of CHARACTERS. you cant just project that same energy to real life murderers who had snuffed out REAL lives and tore apart families.

99% of mass shooters are cisgender, white and straight. But the one time a trans person is the murderer of course the fascist right wing loses their minds. This is bad. As if trans people in the US weren’t already in danger. They’ll assume every queer person is violent now too.

i’m reading rwrb before watching the movie and just got to
He has a bit of a caring-too-much problem about most things, including whether people can pay their medical bills, or marry whomever they love, or not get shot at school. Or, in this case, if kids with cancer have enough books to read at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
and i’m sat here choked up because that’s where i was this time 10 months ago.
like i know this is a book and what i went though isn’t fictional however all the stuff they have there is real and that had to have come from somewhere. they give you so much and provide so much like there’s school rooms, art places, games rooms, a communal area with playstations, books, massive TVs, a rooftop garden, a creep scarecrow for the little kids that i could see from my window and creeped me out, cool lazy boy chairs that are so fucking comfy, clothes, blankets, teddies, pjs, underwear, colouring books, parties if it’s your birthday/you got the all clear, massages, haircuts. and obviously the medical shit too but that’s boring rn
and it doesn’t really look like a hospital. my room for example looks like it was groovy chick inspired, and the whole place was really colourful and bright and just cosy.
i don’t know where i was going with this post but uhhh stan the royal marsden? they’re doing an awesome job even if one of the nurses who works with the teenagers/young adults is terrified of spiders and you wake up to them on a bed near you because there’s one on the floor.

Story Time
So I saw a pretty incredible thread on Twitter regarding the fucking disaster at Uvalde. I rec folks go have a look, because it reminded me of a MUCH LESS severe incident in my own career... but the overall sentiment remains the same: If you aren't prepared to put your life on the line, take the fucking badge off and go home.
So we got a call one night for a teen who had attempted suicide. He'd downed an entire bottle of NyQuill, and then tried to cut his wrists. When we arrived, there was a cop waiting for us, because the call came in with the magic words, "subject has a knife", which meant that the cop had to "make the scene safe for us to enter". Thing is, call ALSO came in as "subject is unconscious and unresponsive", so none of us were the least bit worried about the "knife". We'd evaluate when we could see what was going on.
What was going on was there was a kid, mid-teens, passed the fuck out in an overstuffed chair in the basement. Did not respond to us calling for him, and his "friends" nearby were playing video games and waving in his direction, "he's over there." (Some friends)
Oh, and he had a BUTTER KNIFE held loosely in one UNCONSCIOUS hand. It was even a very obviously DULL BUTTERKNIFE, and the wrist that he had tried to cut with it didn't even have a mark.
But the cop... oh the fucking cop was having an absolute CONNIPTION. "He's got a knife! Stay back! He's armed!" And this guy had his gun out and was freaking out that this unconscious kid had a dull butterknife that didn't even have a POINT in his hand. Weapon drawn, demanding that we "clear the scene" until he can "secure it" because the "subject was armed".
So my Captain that night was this like seven foot tall, three hundred pound linebacker of a guy who also moonlighted as an ER nurse and general Brute Squad. He calmly stared at the cop, before taking off his bunker coat, shoving past the panicking officer, and tossing the coat over the unconscious kid from a couple feet away. "Scene's secure. You can go now."
Oh the cop just lost his SHIT at that point, and said that he would report my Cap for "breaking SOPs" (standard operating procedures) and some other shit, but we just ignored him and got to work on this kid, who, even if he woke up right then, he'd have to get through three layers of nomex, canvas, and leather to get to us with that butterknife. The knife that my Cap then casually removed from his hand and handed off to the irate cop.
We treated the kid, finally got him to wake up, got him started on meds and O2 and passed off to the ambulance to take in to the hospital, and went back to quarters. And, sure nuff, the next shift, my Cap was called downtown to get "talked to" by one of the Chiefs. The cop had filed a complaint, and, while everyone on the FD side knew that my Cap had done exactly the right thing - the cop drew his weapon on an unconscious child, FFS - they "had" to "talk to him about the SOPs".
So, here's the thing. I've mentioned it before but we are trained to "Risk a lot to save a lot". We don't throw our lives away for property, but we'll risk our lives for someone else's life. THAT IS THE FUCKING JOB. That's the POINT. That's the WHOLE REASON WE DO THIS SHIT. When we get to pin on that shiny badge and hop in the driver's seat of the Big Red Truck, it is with the understanding that we are willing to lay down our life for someone else. If that's too scary?
TAKE OFF THE BADGE AND GO THE FUCK HOME.
If we NEVER EVER put our lives at risk, we would never walk into a burning building. We'd never work a car wreck on an open highway. We'd never treat ANY patients - after all, we don't know their disease status! So we put on the uniform, pin on the badge, and UNDERSTAND that we are doing so because we are willing to make that sacrifice, to take that risk, when appropriate.
The closest I have ever come to an armed standoff was when we had a drunk guy use his 357 Magnum as a chili spoon, so, yeah, I've never actually had to deal with a Uvalde... but we ALL got the training on how and what to do. I wasn't allowed to carry a gun while on duty... but that never stopped me from putting myself between immanent danger and the people we were sent to help. (And yes, I did get my ass kicked once or twice by bystanders/family, so that's not hyperbole, thanks)
And those fucking COWARDS in Uvalde STOOD OUTSIDE AND LISTENED TO KIDS GETTING KILLED, rather than risk themselves and go in to stop the shooter. They ARRESTED PARENTS for begging to be allowed to risk their OWN lives to go in.
Because that was the "SOP". Because they have been trained to think "your life first, THEN your partner's, THEN the public." Because "how can you help anyone when you become a victim, too?"
SOPs which are being applied UNIVERSALLY and WITHOUT DUE CONSIDERATION TO THE ACTUAL SITUATION AT HAND.
SOPs which are being treated as a cookie cutter answer to everything and all situations.
SOPs which have trained these cowards to NEVER THINK FOR THEMSELVES.
And kids died.
Who knows if they would have been able to save any of the kids that died if they had been willing to FUCKING THINK and FULFILL THE OATH THEY MADE WHEN THEY PINNED ON THE BADGE. But that bastard was left alone in that school for nearly an HOUR to keep killing as he saw fit. And even better, when the cops finally DID make entry, they yelled for any kids to call for help if they needed it... and one girl, who was alive and hidden, answered him...
And the shooter promptly found her and killed her. Because of SOPs and an inability to fucking THINK.
Inappropriately applied SOPs at that, as I know that *I* was trained that you don't ask people to out themselves during an active incident, until the shooter is either contained, eliminated, or OUT OF THE AREA.
They refused to go in for an HOUR. Because it wasn't "safe". NO SHIT IT WASN'T SAFE! KIDS WERE DYING!
But it wasn't safe enough for THEM, so they waited for people with bigger guns and body armor to show up, and listened to the gunshots and to kids DYING for an hour... Because they all forgot their oath. They forgot, or ignored, the promise they made when they pinned that badge on -
Risk a lot to save a lot.
If you aren't prepared to pay the price? To take the risks for other people? Then go. the fuck. home. Because doing exactly that?
Is your JOB.*

Hi.
Obviously I don’t have a lot of notoriety here on our lovely tumblr.com, but I wanted to talk about some stuff anyways. Both for some personal reasons and because I think it’s important.
It’s the anniversary of a school shooting at my last school. And I’m sick of the normalization of it all, so here’s some thoughts. Below the cut because I recognize the content of this can be a lot.
There’s a lasting widespread impact, regardless of what the shooting I experienced was originally about.
Things have been too normalized; destigmatized and desensitized. This isn’t okay. We are not okay.
There has to be a change- my parents had to get a text that could have been my last because we didn’t know what the situation was. My boyfriend woke up to a massive string of texts because I didn’t know what I would be able to update him on. My best friend had to go through a normal day of highschool while knowing what was happening.
There were walkouts and kids that stopped going to school because of anxiety and the lack of anything actually changing. This is not just about the students that saw or heard gunshots- this is about everybody, and the ripple effect it has. This is about the insensitivity of the adults in our lives and society who act like they can fix this with kind words and a bandaid of cash.
This shouldn’t be normal.
This needs to be talked about and fixed, and I am so proud of the current students at that school and teachers for pushing through and dealing with this, speaking out about it. I’m proud of every single parent and teacher and student that’s ever been involved in a school shooting, because it sticks with you.
Listen to the voices of the kids. Of the students and families. This is not a one-time thing- has not been a one-time thing. I could spout off statistics, but this is more than numbers. And nothing will be solved if we can’t be empathetic and human about this. I’m in college now, and I don’t want to see this happen again to kids younger and younger than me.
Fuck your thoughts and prayers.
And take action.

I was having a major sensory overload today+ repressed meltdown, and just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, we had a shooter drill. But I didn’t here the “drill” part of shooter drill and I cried because everyone was joking about it and our windows don’t close fully so I thought we were literally going to die by my classmates brain rot incompetence and shitty school design. And then I got laughed at and made fun of for mishearing things and being rightfully scared for my life, and for the rest of the day (just like a period, thank god) I was still so scared and panicked. Every-time I do anything I get made fun of. I bet if I didn’t show emotion and just went into shutdown people would use it to further their jokes and rumors about me being a school shooter. Even when I corrected them saying I misheard it and stopped crying they still made fun of me, and the teacher stepping in made things worse
it always gets worse whenever they step in and even though they didn’t know initially, that didn’t give them the right to make fun of me and make me feel insane!
we didn’t even do the drill because they kept yelling, making fun of me loudly, and joking so if there’s a real shooter I am fucked
everyone at my school is so loud. They act like rabid animals most of the time.
Why do they never leave me alone?
I dress different. That doesn’t give them a right to do this day in day out to me
I am different and loud about it. Still doesn’t give them a pass
I fucking hate them.

So... Darnell made me research his condition-
Tumblr media
((So. I just started looking into migraines and chronic migraines, because up until now, I’ve only been Darnell’s migraines on my experience with migraines, but intensified, but.
Bruh, migraines can be worse than I fucking thought. Especially chronic migraines.
Apparently a symptom you can get from migraines is dizziness, nausea, and even vomiting.
Holy fucking shit-
Like, I had a headcanon that Darnell wasn’t in Pico Vs. Convict because his migraine was so bad that day, that he had to skip school, but jesus.
Bruh. I did not know migraines could be this bad, mine were always so fucking tame. Like. Mostly annoyances that at worst I had to go to bed for.
This could also go on to explain a few things about him.
For example, in Pico Vs. Uber Kids, their teach Mr. Flacit says the trio was chosen because after the shooting, the school’s best was dead, so they had to settle for those three. That is despite all three of them being above average intelligence. [This was measure by the outdated IQ method, but follow me on this.]
Now, while Pico is above average intelligence, Pico’s father is implied to be neglectful, and the lack of support from your parents can make your grades suffer.
Nene has “superior” intelligence, but she’s also go ADHD, and let’s be real, schools, especially back when the games were first made, aren’t exactly very... accommodating to neurodivergent children. Especially those with attention span issues. Plus. Anxiety and Depression. They are also bitches.
But Darnell... He has “gifted” intelligence. He’s smarter than both Pico and Nene. And I doubt this school was exactly for the best of the best, because. *wildly gestures at it* look at how badly it’s failed to even protect their students. Hell, some of the policies actively endangered the student body. Remember how the only school exit Pico could get to was chained and padlocked? To keep kids from leaving before school was over???
And as far as we can tell, from what little we know of his family, Darnell had a caring mother, and he’s not confirmed with any learning disabilities, or similar disorders that could make school difficult.
Except. For chronic migraines.
If the migraines were bad enough, it could have made focusing on school damn right impossible. If he could go at all.
[The trio did also experience some major trauma with the events of Pico’s School and Pico 2 at least at that point, and trauma can affect your grades, but I don’t think they took recent grades into account.]
And let’s be honest. Grades are a shitty way to determine a child’s intelligence.
And as for the poster that’s kind of a running joke-
Tumblr media
While he still could be full of shit characterwise, If his migraines are bad enough to have him missing school, then it could either be a school rumor he took advantage of for his campaign, or he’s just fucking around based off of his condition.
Could the migraines themselves really be that bad, though? How bad are chronic migraines?
Chronic migraines are defined as at least fifteen head ache days a month, with full migraines at least eight of those days. And the pattern persists for at least three months. At least from I’m reading on ClevelandClinic.org.
According to Mayo Clinic there’s actually a lot of shit that can happen even before a migraine happens.
One or two days before, you can get symptoms like a stiff neck, food cravings, mood changes, constant yawning, aaaand bodily excrement issues I am not saying, thank you.
And then sometime before the migraine happens, or even during, some people get this thing called an aura which can last of to an hour. They’re usually visual disturbances, but can be other disturbances. They can be seeing spots of colors or shapes, outright vision loss, pins and needles feelings in the limbs, weakness or numbness in the face or a side of the body, or difficulty speaking.
The migraines themselves? They can last between four hours and three fucking days. And aside from terrible fucking headaches and nausea, they can make you more sensitive to light, sound, and even smells and fucking touch. Holy fuck.
And even after the migraines past, they can leave you drained. Like genuinely exhausted and even confused for a day.
Yeah. Basically they fucking suck.
What can cause them?
Well, general migraines, either stress, sensory stimuli, sleep changes, physical exertion, medication, food [salty processed food, aged cheese, and food additives, as well as skipping meals] and drinks [alcohol and caffeine], and even fucking weather changes. [For women, hormonal changes are also a factor.]
Chronic migraines though?
Again, medication, mood disorders [IE depression, anxiety, etc.], on going disrupted sleeping patterns, excessive caffeine intake, and physical and/or emotional trauma. I believe family history of the affliction is also a factor.
Now possible triggers for general migraines for Darnell?
Stress is a good one. Especially now a days.
Sensory stimuli? Considering he enjoys fucking with fire, light for sure. But I’d argue smell has to do with it too, considering fire accelerants? Probably smell. Not to mention what he makes his bombs out of. And spraypaint. Can’t forget spray paint. Sound probably works too, seeing as his FNF sprite has headphones. He could very well put those on to block out noise when the time calls.
Physical exertion? Especially now a days, yes.
We don’t know shit about his medicine intake or his eating or sleeping habits, so I can’t make comments on that.
As for what may have caused it to be chronic?
We don’t know much about his family, so we can’t say too much on that. Again, same with medication and sleeping habits.
I doubt his mom would have just given him coffee, maybe soda? Who knows.
There’s no confirmation or even indications in canon there’s anything up with him other than his pyromania. And that’s not a mood disorder. As far as I know.
Trauma, though?
Wellll... divorce is pretty traumatizing for a child. And it’s confirmed that his parents are divorced.
Probably not helped by the shit he has to deal with in like. Middle school.
Man. Research is fucking great. It gives you more ways to make your muses s u f f e r .))
