Gal: " Are you done? May I have it back now? "
Dagan: ( apologizing profusely.)
Gal: " it's alright, Dagan, I'm not mad, just... warn me beforehand, deal?"
Dagan : " Deal, Gal."
For context, in this, basically Dagan thought Gal was sleeping and borrowed his blindfold to take pictures, Gal wasn't actually sleeping.
Huh, now that I think about it, I haven't actually seen Gal without his blindfold before, but this does seem accurate to how he'd look like, his eyes are probably white, just like the other escriptas.
Still, cute that Dagan wanted to look like someone he admired.

A Prayer for Peace from ancient ʾUgarit

Photo by İnci Ada (CC BY-SA 4.0)
Hey all, this is another personal take on an ancient Ugaritic text, this time KTU 1.123 (=RS 24.271). This is a prayer for peace (i.e. general wellbeing) addressed primarily to the Children of 𒀭ʾEl. I worked with Dennis Pardee's translation from Ritual and Cult at Ugarit (2002, pp. 150–52) with some reference to del Olmo Lete's and Sanmartín's Dictionary of the Ugaritic Language in the Alphabetic Tradition (3rd edition, 2015) for wording as well as interpreting some of the broken and obscure names and titles. I've also included in-text notes for further elaboration. I felt inspired to finish this by the occulation of Mars by the Moon earlier tonight and I really hope you enjoy it!
Prayer to the House of ʾEl for Peace
Grant us peace, O Father and Deities,
we do pray, grant us peace, grant us peace,
O 𒀭ʾEl and the House of the Children of 𒀭ʾEl,
grant us peace, O 𒀭ʾEl Sovereign,
𒀭Dagan and 𒀭Baʿal,
𒀭Ẓiẓẓu-wa-Kamathu, [a.k.a. 𒀭Kemosh, National God of Iron-Age Moab. The meaning of Ẓiẓẓu remains unclear.]
𒀭Yarikh at His Fullness, [𒀭Yarikh as the Full Moon]
also 𒀭Yarikh of the Kassites, [presumably the Ugaritic name for a Kassite Lunar God, although I wonder if the Kassite affixation indicates the East perhaps with astronomical significance]
𒀭Thukamuna and 𒀭Shunama, [Youngest Sons of 𒀭ʾEl and 𒀭ʾAshirat, appearing in ʾEl's Drinking Party]
𒀭Kothar-wa-Khasis,
𒀭ʿAshtar-ʿAshtabil,
𒀭Shachar and 𒀭Shalim,
𒀭Nogah and 𒀭Sarar, [apparently "Sunrise" and "Sunset", probably closely related to the previous pair and perhaps even a duplication]
Father and King,
𒀭Sedek and 𒀭Mesharu, [This Phoenician Dyad bears Names meaning "Righteousness" and "Uprightness", perhaps to be identified via duplication with the previous named pair (ditto the next two lines)]
the God Gracious in Judgements at His Seat,
𒀭Kabadu-wa-Nuru, Keeper of the Holies. [𒀭Kabadu is apparently also mentioned at Ebla and 𒀭Nuru means "Lamp" (cf. Shapshu's epiphet) with which I partly allude via my interpretation to the divinized 𒀭Uthkhatu and 𒀭Kinnaru ("Censer" and "Lyre") and 𒀭Tirathu ("Young Wine") as this God seems to have a special role in Temple affairs.]
Grant us peace, O Merciful King and Deities,
we do pray, grant us peace, grant us peace,
O Loving Majesty 𒀭ʾEl and the Congregation of the Deities,
grant us peace as we plead before the High Place,
Holy 𒀭Milku of Sur spying the horizon, [Milku identified by me with 𒀭Milqart of Tyre]
𒀭Kabadu, the God Who Wields Knowledge, [something of an obscure reference with 𒀭Kabadu's name sounding similar to the Ugaritic words for the liver (in a divinatory context) and the heart/mind]
𒀭Mara-Manamani, [Version of the Akkadian expression “Son of Someone” referring to an unspecified God. Given the context here, I take it to refer to one of the Temple-specific deities or perhaps their class as a whole.]
𒀭Baririnu-ʾAriyanu Who guards the Sacred Images in their Dwellings, [𒀭Baririnu is translated as "The Brilliant One" with 𒀭Ariyanu's meaning less clear. I take Him as a Guardian figure somewhat like the Angel stationed at Eden in the Book of Genesis.]
𒀭ʾAṭachanu-Tulayanu, watching over the offerings and libations, [Latter part of 𒀭Aṭachanu means “grace” and 𒀭Tulayanu may have to do with wine]
𒀭Atadibu-wa-Ẓuru, [“The One of the Threshold and the Keystone” in my somewhat tortured idiomatic interpretation including the Ugaritic term for the arch of the back which can also denote the summit of a mountain being taken in reference to a Temple Gate]
𒀭Qudshu the Blessed, the Fisherman of 𒀭ʾAshirat,
𒀭Thokharu-wa-Badu. [The latter part means “song, so I interpret the former to represent the composition of music]
O 𒀭Kothar, O 𒀭Khasis, grant us peace, O 𒀭Heyan,
grant us peace, O God of the House, [Title of 𒀭Baʿal-Hadad as Tutelary Deity of the Ugaritic Royal House]
grant us peace, O God of Solicitude, [or “O Solicitous 𒀭ʾEl”]
𒀭Resheph, the Blessed Dead, [literally “the Humanity of the Gods”]
Generations of Deities, the Great Deities.
We do pray, O Deities, grant us peace.

Any of your ocs been on your mind lately? If so would it be okay for me to ask for a little lore dump? 🥺
All of your fellas are so gorgeous

Dagan, one of my interdimensional librarians and Petar by association (also a librarian). They live in two little realms that were taught to hate and fear each other, both sealed away as a result. One stumbles into the other's realm by accident, and misplaces a book while hiding. Dagan is followed home after picking it up, and they meet when a retrieval effort is made.
Petar comes from my realm where most things are made from semi-sentient mold and lichens, (if you know Itzhak my violinist, he's from the same realm.)
Dagan's realm is more of a florally inspired realm. They're recognizable as different in each other's places because of the materials their clothing and belongings are made of. Also Petar is part of a fishpeople. So a little noticeable 👁️👁️
Most of their initial time together is learning each other's languages and bickering about the historical/cultural inaccuracies both have taught of each other's people. They argue a bit but feel closer as a result of their ability to communicate intensely and still be respectful of each other.. and find beauty in each other's lives as they learn more about each other. Petar starts visiting at the same time nearly every night, and have little special knocks for each other to be safe. The second half of their lore is a bit sadder because of political drama and imprisonment. But they'll end up happy, I just haven't gotten there yet hehe. I'm currently drawing Dagan again :)
Thank you for asking and hope you're well 💙💙

Deity Dagan
Originally a god of West Semitic speakers from the Levant, but worshipped widely throughout the Near East, including Mesopotamia.
Deity of grain, as well as its cultivation and storage. Indeed, the common word for "grain" in Ugaritic and Hebrew is dagan. According to one Sumerian tradition and to the much later Philo of Byblos, Dagan invented the plow. In the north, he was sometimes identified with Adad. Thus, he may have had some of the characteristics of a storm god. In one tradition his wife was Ishara, in another Salas, usually wife of Adad. Salas was originally a goddess of the Hurrians. Dagan also had netherworld connections. According to an Assyrian composition, he was a judge of the dead in the lower world, serving with Nergal and Misa-ru(m), the god of justice. A tradition going back at least to the fourth century BCE identified Dagan as a fish god, but it is almost certainly incorrect, presumably having been based upon a false etymology that interpreted the element "Dag" in Dagan as deriving from the Hebrew word dag "fish."
The earliest mentions of him come from texts that indicate that, in Early Dynastic times, Dagan was worshipped at Ebla. Dagan was taken into the Sumerian pantheon quite early as a minor god in the circle of Enlil at Nip-pur. Kings of the Old Akkadian peri-od, including Sargon and Narām-Sin, credited much of their success as conquerors to Dagan. Sargon recorded that he "prostrated (himself in prayer before Dagan in Tutul [sic]" (Oppen-heim, ANET: 268). At the same time, he gave to the god a large area of the country he had just conquered, including Mari, Ebla, and larmuti in western Syria. A number of letters from the Mari archives, dated mainly to the reign of Zimri-Lim, record that Dagãn was a source of divine revela-tion. The letters reported prophetic dreams, a number of which came from Dagan, conveyed by his prophets and ecstatics. In his law code, Hammu-rapi credits Dagan with helping him subdue settlements along the Euphrates.
The Assyrian king Samsi-Adad I commissioned a temple for him at Terqa, upstream from Mari, where funeral rites for the Mari Dynasty took place.
In the Old Babylonian period, kings of the Amorites erected temples for Dagan at Isin and Ur. In the Anzû(m) myth, Dagan was favorably coupled with Anu(m). At Ugarit Dagan was closely associated with, if not equated to, the supreme god El/I(u). Although he is mentioned in the mythic compositions of Ugarit as the father of the storm god Ba'lu/ Had(d)ad, Dagan plays only a very minor role. His popularity is indicated by his importance in offering and god lists, one of which places him third, after the two chief gods and before the active and powerful god Ba'lu/ Had(d)ad. Dagan is attested in Ugaritic theophoric names. In Ugaritic texts the god is often referred to as "Dagan of Tuttul." It might also be the case that one of the two major temples of the city of Ugarit was dedicated to him, and he might there have been identified with the chief god I(u) / El.
Festivals for Dagãn took place at Ter-ga and Tuttul, both of which were cult centers of the god. He was certainly worshipped at Ebla and also at Mari.
At Mari, in Old Babylonian times, he appears as fourth deity on a god list; that is, he was very important. He was venerated also at Emar. There a "Sacred Marriage" ritual between Dagan and the goddess Nin-kur was celebrated.
At the same city, a festival was held in honor of "Dagan-Lord-of-the-Cattle," at which the herds of cattle and prob. ably sheep were blessed.
According to the Hebrew Bible, Dagan was the national god of the Philistines. I Samuel:5-6 tells of the capture of the Ark of the Covenant by the Philistines. It was customary in the Ancient Near East for the conquerors to carry off the deity statues of the conquered to mark the surrender not only of the people, but also of their deities.
So the Philistines took the Ark, the symbol of the god of the Israelites, into the temple of Dagan at Ashdod. Since the Israelites had no statues of their deity, the much revered Ark was an obvious substitute. In this way, the Philistines marked the submission of the Israelite god to Dagan. However, on the next day, the people of Ashdod found the statue of Dagan lying face down in front of the Ark. The following day the same thing happened except that the head and hands of Dagan's statue lay broken on the temple threshold. This biblical account seems to be an etiology for a practice of the priests of the temple of Dagan at Ashdod, for it states that for this reason it is the custom of the priests of Dagan not to tread on the threshold as they enter the temple of Dagan. The best-known of the biblical stories that mention Dagan is in Judges 16, the tale of Samson and Delilah. After Delilah arranged for the Philistines of Gaza to capture Samson, they blinded him, shackled him, and made him a slave at a mill. During a festival to Dagan, the Philistines took Samson to be exhibited in Dagan's temple, where thou sands of Philistines had gathered for the celebrations. After praying to the Israelite god, the now long haired Samson got back his old strength. By pushing against two central pillars, he brought the temple crashing down on himself and on more Philistines than he had killed in his whole lifetime of killing Philistines.

Dagan, the Visage of Awakening
These angels breathed life into all who should be alive. These angels breathed life into all who should be alive. From small insects to great mighty beasts. They were directly present at the birth of children to fill them with the breath of life and health. They also kept the bodies alive and healthy, that is, they were born healers, simply put.
Iaso was one of them. Her calling was to preserve healthy sleep and weave it into the body at birth (hah, well her fall I more than noticed). She went into rebellion out of great love for people and because of that same love she fell. In fact, even in the harshest of times, when she was overwhelmed by the Torment, she was driven solely by care and love. Though at times like this, they were very… specific.
Shy and gentle, she's taken over the body an equally quiet doctor, an addiction psychiatrist. He had no family, no friends, just a lot of work-home-sleep-work. Well, now he has Iaso and lots of healthy sleep. As for the rest… the job's in place, and the friends... she's met others from her house and is enthusiastic about the Reconciler faction. She still wants to bring more love and goodness into this world.

Drawing compilation of my babiiies rambles under the cut!
Ruvyn is an elf/vampire hybrid. His mother is an elf from an aristocratic and rather conservative family, she is married to another noble elf but was in love with a vampire, Ruvyn's father. He was chased away by Ruvyn's grandmother when she learned of her daughter's pregnancy, and they hid his vampire side by passing him off as her father-in-law's son.
His grandmother feared that his bastardy would become known and reflect on the image of their family, she has always been very strict with him, which explains why he left the family home as soon as he could. Despite that, he still haven't fully overcome his trauma and struggle to refuse his grandmother's orders out of survival instinct.
Out of pure contradiction, he got into music and has done quite well. He spends most of his nights between concerts and parties, which allows him to excuse his rather nocturnal life cycle by nature.
He still keeps in touch with his mother, not understanding why she remains under the thumb of her grandmother and does not seek to join his father. However, his mother remains attached to her family and her husband and does not want to cause more problems. In addition, she and her husband had a son, Ruvyn's half-brother who is therefore considered his little brother.
The latter does not like Ruvyn, but the hybrid does not hold it against him, suspecting that it is a consequence of his education by his grandmother. In fact, he hopes that time will help him understand the reasons of his elder.
===
Werewolves are quite frowned upon in their world, cited as unstable, which is why Dagan is someone silent and relatively discreet despite his stature. He has always done his best to keep the jobs he had access to, often until his condition became a problem. Werewolves have two lupine forms, a partial and a complete one. They take their partial form every night of a full moon. It still allows them to speak but their behavior and appearance are closer to that of an animal. On the other hand, when they are exposed directly to the light of the full moon, they take a complete form that makes them almost entierly animal, and often causes them to cause damage because of the animal instinct taking over in a stressful environment.
It was because of a crisis of this kind that Dagan lost his last job, and came across Ruvyn whom he had helped earlier in the day. Ruvyn's family having forced him to take a bodyguard to preserve his origins, he decided to hire the werewolf to obey without giving them satisfaction.
The two get along more than one might think, and Dagan has actually become attached to his employer. Being very loyal by nature, he quickly worries about him, and is one of the few people with whom he dares to raise his voice to put him back in his place when they are not in public.
Normally, werewolves only transform at the full moon, but there are some moonstones that force them to transform when they are close enough to it.
Ruvyn had a collar developed that he, in very specific circumstances (ie, Dag' is not in a state to win a fight and risks dying) can use to make him reach his partial form He can choose at any time to open the collar so that it comes off and falls to the ground and Dagan takes human form again, it is for this control that the greatest accepted the creation of the collar Dagan does not like this solution at all but he recognizes that it has saved their lives several times already
In return, he also asked Ruvyn to bite him. This way, the latter has more power over him in terms of hypnosis, and can much more easily calm him down, mainly in the post-transformation state. This works a little when he is transformed, but much less because his attention is much harder to keep, especially in noisy/agitated environments.

Story: 4 out of 5 Smut: 0 out of 5
I’m sorry, but where is the hype for this book, people? Did it have some spelling/grammar mistakes? Yes. Did it distract from the story? Absolutely NOT.
When I tell you I am obsessed with these characters, I mean it. I started this book yesterday evening (10.8) and finished it this afternoon (10.9).
The author pulled me in with the promises of a dark retelling of a childhood fairytale favorite, and I was sucked further in with the detailing and story. Briar and Casimir have my heart right now, y’all.
There’s heartbreak and joy and laughter… and I really wish there’d been a Beauty and the Beast film made from this book. It’s everything an adult would love.
Now here are my rambling thoughts…
* Dagan’s a dick. I can’t wait until he gets his ass kicked.
* Papa Hart also seems dick-ish. Where’d our lovable papa go 😂
* Fuck you, Dagan! Papa Hart did NOT say yes to your proposal for his daughter’s hand.
* Dagan is a slimy bastard, using papa Hart’s disappearance as an excuse to get close to Briar. Open your eyes, B!
* You stupid girl! Why would you agree to marry him?! This sincerity is all just a farce!
* Oh hell. He commented on her weight? Nope. Walk out. Dump his ass.
* I knew Dagan was still a dick! Wtf did he do that he had a bloody knife?
* Please tell me that Papa Hart is merely injured and that they didn’t kill him 😔
* Runaway bride! Thank god.
* They fucking stabbed Papa Hart!? And “the beast” possibly saved him…?
* She made it to the castle 😏
* Aww. She met a pixie from the Fae realm and just accepted the dinner invite from their “master” 🤗
* Casimir might be the beast in this story, but he doesn’t seem so beastly. I’m already in love 😂
* She saw him change! Omg. I feel for both of them.
* “Until my pain you share, shall this curse you bear.” — Nooooo. I already know what has to happen and I DONT WANT IT!
* Awww. She hurt Casimir’s feelings by leaving in the middle of the night. Thankfully he found her in time. I forgot all about the wolf attack.
* They’re so fucking cute.
* Oh no. Her father did die 😔 and Casimir had him buried the others from the castle.
* No! Dagan found her. Fuck this dude. Someone throw him into a river!
* I just want Briar and Casimir to reunite already.
* “Until my pain you share, shall this curse you bear! Screams of fear are all you will hear. Forever alone you shall be, until you find the one who can truly set you free.”
* Home. She’s home!
* Did he really fucking kill her!?!?
* Serves Dagan right. I’m so glad his head was torn from his body.
* The Fae King brought her back 😭 She broke the curse 😭 Oh my god… my babies are safe 😭😭😭😭
