I'm gonna say it, I think Disney's political message in TFATWS is really ironic considering their pro-Israel stance — in particular, the one in which Sam makes a speech calling out the governments purposeful ignorance towards the why behind the terrorism.

This might be a bit of a long one; I finished TFATWS yesterday and the whole show just really had me thinking. There was a lot of political undertones to unpack, but also some blatant hypocrisy from Disney (and their Zionist supporters) that I feel like mentioning.

I mean, come on. Sam's whole speech about how people need to consider why extremeists and/or terrorists feel the need to take the measures they do to change things? Why aren't they taking into consideration all the years of apartheid and occupation Palestinians had to endure to push Hamas to these measures? How are they able to promote sympathy/forgiveness towards the show's "terrorist group" but continue to enable Israel's actual terrorism towards Palestine?

Sam points out that the government's so-called "Peace Keeping troops" are also carrying weapons and forcing millions of people into settlements while the government only condemns the Flag Smashers, and he's right. But does this logic and morality only exist in fiction? Because it feels eerily similar to the praise and pity the IDF gets despite the constant oppression of Palestinians. Carrying weapons? Forcing people into settlements? Gee, wonder where I've seen that before...

"I mean, this girl died trying to stop you, and no one has stopped for one second to ask why. You've got to do better, Senator, you've got to step up because if you wont the next Karli will — and you don't want to see 2.0. People believed in her cause so much that they helped her defy the strongest governments in the world. Why do you think that is?"

Hamas' actions were terrible, but they were not unprompted. How can Disney recognize this in a TV show in such a explorative and impactful way but not apply it to real life? Critical thinking, guys.

Just something to think about. Remember to keep putting pressure on Disney, and free Palestine 🇵🇸.

Bucky’s eyes widened. “You use wings?” asked Bucky. “I was the Falcon before I took over as Captain America,” said Sam coolly with a little shrug, “Maybe you’ll get to see them at some point.” “I wouldn’t be opposed,” hummed Bucky as he stared deep into Sam’s eyes, “I’m just happy to be here.” Sam couldn’t stop himself from grinning. “I’m happy you were able to make it too,” whispered Sam as he laced his fingers with Bucky’s, “I’m happy I was so hot that I broke your programming.” Bucky. Blushed so badly, Sam was sure he could melt diamonds on Bucky’s face. “It – I mean. Okay... A question.

Is there a Sambucky fic out there, where Bucky only pretends to be normal and befriends Sam to trick people into thinking that everything’s fine with him, but in reality he’s still more of a Winter Soldier than Bucky, so he needs Sam to convience others he’s trustworthy.. and he ends up falling in love with Sam for real (because of course he would) which makes him want to actually heal...?

Or did I just made up this whole plot in my mind.

If I only told this story to myself half-asleep one time and it’s not out there on Ao3 for me to re-read I will be so frustrated xD

I’m trying not be a hater rn, bc it may be really good but damn I wish marvel would move on from brainwashing/possession at this point or at least take a break. I mean they have wore that concept out by now, just recently we had Wanda brainwashing a whole town and then being possessed/brainwashed herself by the dark hold, we had the black widow movie which was all about brainwashing. Captain Marvel was Brainwashed. The Eternals were semi-brainwashed. Clint and Loki have been brainwashed. Even Peter Quill was temporarily brainwashed by his dad. This is just off the top of my head, there’s probably more.

I mean are you really telling me that there aren’t better, cooler things to do Isaiah than reuse a plot point from a previous cap movie 10 years ago? This just sounds so fucking lazy, it sounds like marvel thought “everyone liked a brainwashed super soldier friend in one cap movie, so we’ll do it again for this one.” LAZYYYY. We’ve seen it with Captain America, we’ve seen brainwashing in a million other marvel projects. Like holy fuck can we please let go of the “mind controlled good guy acting bad” and use some of the other cool concepts from the comics. It’s just disappointing bc I don’t wanna see the same concept used for the 3000th time when there’s so much story potential here
