w Damon Salvatore
Tumblr media
Warnings- kissing, alcohol.
Series- The vampire diaries
Summary- all your friends see that you and Damon have been flirting nonstop. If you two won’t make a move, it’s up to them to come up with a plan.
- sorry I know every year I’m late with my Christmas story! This years no different😭.
Tumblr media
Every Christmas, me and my friends rent out a big house some place peaceful. So we can relax, drink until our hearts content and be away from all the drama of mystic falls. This had been a tradition for years now, this Christmas would be our sixth one. Me, Elena, Stefan, Bonnie, Enzo, Caroline and jeremy. Oh and Damon. They say you leave the best till last. Damon Salvatore. A man I’d been friends with for a long while, and a man I now felt myself falling for.
“Y/n stop day dreaming” Caroline snapped nudging me. “Are you playing the game?” Bonnie asked me tilting her head. Everyone was sat on the floor with whatever board game they chosen. Everyone apart from Damon who was off collecting wood or something. “Um- actually I’m okay, I still need to wrap a few things before tomorrow so I’m going to do that” I nodded jumping up with my hot chocolate and leaving the room.
We’d been here for three days and the games were starting to get a little tedious. “Perfect I’m glad she’s gone” Caroline whispered grabbing her bag. “What? That’s a little harsh did something happen?” Jeremy jerked his head back in confusion. “No- no nothing like that- it’s just me Bonnie and Elena have come up with a plan and we need everyone in on it” she smiled smashing a piece of paper onto the floor.
“Plan gyadt?” Enzo read out raising an eyebrow “yeah it stands for get y/n and Damon together” Elena read out looking around the room at the faces. “Oh so everyone’s caught onto the flirting that’s been going on for months?” Stefan giggled looking at the plan again. Everyone nodded around the game making people laugh. “Great, so this is the plan” Caroline clicked her knuckled. “We get them in the mood” Elena winked.
Step one:
Knock knock
“Who is it?” I called out, “stefan” he called in. I’d already wrapped his presents so I allowed him inside. “Hey how’s it going?” He smiled coming and sitting down with his coffee on the bed I was staying in. “Not bad, only got Enzos and Damon’s to wrap now” I smiled up at him. “Oh really? What did you get Damon” Stefan peered into the bag suspiciously. “Well he’s always going on about this bourbon called brothers bond but he couldn’t find it anywhere- I’ve found it” I smiled taking the old bottle out of the bag.
“Wow y/n- this is a gorgeous present- he’s going to love it” Stefan smiled looking at the bottle. “Then some new glasses to go with it” I shrugged getting up to fetch them and show Stefan. He nodded at them taking them in with detail. “He’s going to be ecstatic”. “Well I’m glad you approve” “of course I do!” Stefan frantically waved his arm out spilling all his drink over my jumper. My eyes widened realising. “Oh- oh my gosh I’m so sorry y/n! Quick go into the bathroom to wash it off” Stefan put the cup on the side and rushed be out of the door.
Outside-
“Damon! Are you out here?” Elena yelled pulling her coat around herself shivering. A woosh of wind appeared in front of her and Damon smiled. “You look freezing” he laughed with a bunch of wood in his hands. “Mm I don’t know how you’re out here with just a shirt on- I mean I do but…” she trailed off making him laugh again. “Well, why you out in the cold?” He questioned walking back to the house with the wood in his hands. “Well I came to check on you- and bring you this” Elena held out a mug of tea.
“Mm never knew you had a nice bone” he dropped the wood and put his hand out for the drink. Elena stepped towards him and tripped spilling the tea all down his shirt and trousers. “Elena! Are you okay?” He burst out trying to help her up. “I’m so sorry Damon! I- I don’t know what came over me” she shook her head trying to stand up. “You should try and get it off before it stains” she took him by the wrist and led him towards the house.
“Really it’s fine elena stop apologising” Damon told her as he entered the bathroom. I turned around seeing him close the door before noticing i was in here. His eyes trailed down my top and mine his. We both laughed at each other. “I feel like I still win in this situation” Damon said coming over to the sink and me. “Why’s that? We’re in the same boat are we not?”. “Mmm yes we are but I don’t stink of coffee” he laughed trying to get the tea off his grey top.
“Actually you have a point there” I nodded before putting my middle finger up to him Damon’s jaw dropped as if he was offended. I laughed flicking the water at him before running off. “Hey!” Damon gasped running after me giggling. He caught me and with vamp speed held me against the wall. I looked up at his face, my smile was gone and I was just panting staring up at him. Into his blue eyes.
“You got me” I whispered under my breath. “Now what are you doing to do?”. I watched his eyes flick down to my lips for a second. “Forgive and forget” he winked drawing away. My heart sank, I was beginning to think he just wasn’t interested because every time we got close he’d pull away. “Oh- looks like the tea didn’t come out” Elena appeared from behind the corner looking at Damon. She side looked my top too. “Maybe you should just both change- how clumsy” she tutted turning on her heels.
She went to find Stefan in the kitchen. “Did you move the t-shirt to the top of the suitcase?” She whispered. “Mmh, and you got Damon’s grey joggers on top?”. Elena nodded and they both grinned at each other childishly. “I hope they work out Stefan” she put a hand on his chest sighing. “It’s a good plan babe” he kissed the top of her head. “Don’t start please, I’ve seen it all before don’t want to see it again” Damon smirked walking into the kitchen.
I came out my room hearing the chatter and went to follow, I couldn’t be asked to root around for a new outfit so I just picked the top on top of everything. It was a tight blue top that was quite boobie. I’d warn it only once. Damon turned around as I walked in behind him. My eyes rolled down him in his great joggers and I had to try very hard to not allow my chin to fall down. Damon stared at me not saying a word. “Y/n you look nice” Elena smiled at me before evil eyeing Damon.
“That’s your favourite colour isn’t it Damon- favourite shade and everything” Stefan piped up almost making me go red. “Yes it is” Damon nodded still staring. “Brings out your eyes in that” he smiled leaning against one of the chairs. “Thanks hun” I winked taking an apple and exiting the room. “Um- I’m going to go and get that wood I dropped” Damon nodded before heading out.
“So once they are changed? What does that mean?” Enzo wondered raising an eyebrow. “They will want to be all over each other now they’re attracted to each other” Caroline sighed with a smile. “So what’s step two?” Jeremy questioned. Everyone nodded being just as curious as him. “Step two is getting them to admit their feelings so they are fresh in their minds” Elena smiled pointing to the paper.
Step two-
Outside-
“Hey Damon want help carrying that?” Bonnie asked raising an eyebrow coming outside. “Nah don’t worry” he threw it all onto the floor outside the door. “Can I ask you something?” She questioned sitting on the porch swing. “Yeah..” he frowned suspiciously. “It’s about y/n” “y/n? Is she okay?” He went to get up but Bonnie put her hand out. “She’s fine- it’s more about the reaction you had” she smiled turning her head to the side.
“Is something going on?” “No” Damon shook his head seriously. “She’s my best friend Damon- and so are you, I can see when the dynamic changed- and it has”. Damon shut one eye “has she said something?” “Do you want her to say something?” Bonnie giggled nudging Damon. “She’s- gorgeous- but nothing could ever happen” Damon shook his head laying back on the swing. “Why? You’re perfect for each other”.
Damon shook his head again “you’re wrong Bonnie, I like her I do but with everything going on- with all the danger we face everyday- I can’t afford to be in love” he smiled sadly. Bonnie’s eyes widened before her mouth hung open. “Do you really believe that?”, Damon nodded with a slight smile. She could tell it was hurting him. “You deserve to have love Damon- you do- I can’t believe that’s why you won’t make a move” she sat back staring into space.
“If I lost her Bonnie” Damon shook his head closing his eyes. “There is always that risk Damon- in every relationship, in every friendship”. He hummed nodding and shrugging slightly. “Yeah I guess- this is pointless though, I don’t even know if she likes me back” “Damon…” Bonnie started but he stood up “I’m going to take this wood inside to the fire” he hinted that the conversation was over.
In the hallway-
“Oh- y/n I was looking for you” Jeremy smiled catching my arm. “Oh you were?” I asked not thinking anything of it. “Yeah- it’s kinda- random” Jeremy giggled turning around to face me. “I only ask because- when I’ve liked any girl you’d always help me get a game plan together and set us up together” “Awh jer” I smiled sitting on one leg looking up at him curiously. “Is there another girl?” “No” he laughed shaking his head. “I would have told you if there was- no this is about you” he nodded lowering his voice.
“Me? As in-.” “No- no I don’t like you- not like that” he shook his head. I burst out laughing at the thought and Jeremy followed. “Good” I nodded crossing my arms. “It’s about you and Damon” he whispered smirking. “O-oh” “you know what I’m talking about then? The flirting?” Jeremy wiggled his eyebrows. “You mean the one sided flirting” I sighed rubbing my arm. “What?” He shook his head not agreeing with me. “You’re right jer I thought something was going on- but every time I think something’s finally going to happen it never does”.
“I think that means you need to make the first move y/n, because from what I’ve seen it’s not one sided” he rubbed my shoulder to remove my pout. “He’s probably just got some reservations but he’s definitely got feelings for you” he shrugged looking confident. “Hm- I don’t know jer, if he doesn’t want to make a move then maybe for the best nothing should happen” I nodded leaving the conversation sadly.
Jeremy stood there thinking for a second before running to find Bonnie. “She likes him” “he liked her!” Bonnie hissed back at him, their grins widened. “But she thinks he doesn’t like her” “well Damon’s scared of falling in love- thinks it’s too risky” Bonnie chewed her lip. “It’s time for step three, the final step” Bonnie nodded seriously.
“And when they have explained there feeling it will play over in their mind again and again” Caroline explained. “That’s when step three comes in” Bonnie chuckled rubbing her hands together. “Step three? The last step?” Enzo asked being intrigued. “Yes, by this time it will be pretty late, everyone is going to go to sleep early” “on Christmas Eve?” Stefan scoffed shaking his head. Elena hit him gently on his chest. “We’re not actually going to be asleep but give the impression we are”.
“So that they think they are alone?” Jeremy checked after his moment of realisation. “Precisely” Caroline snapped her fingers looking proud of herself. “It will turn Christmas and they will be all sentimental after just pouring out their feelings- this will work”.
Step three-
“Wow that fire looks amazing Damon” I smiled coming into the living room. Elena and Stefan were laying down together giggling about something. And Caroline was watching whatever was on tv. “Thanks- what are they?” He nodded to the rest of the presents in my hands. “The rest of the present I hadn’t wrapped, this one’s yours” I winked putting it under the tree. “You always give good gifts y/n I have high expectations” he patted the side of the sofa now my hands were empty.
“Not too high I hope” I sighed softly as I sat down. “Stefan I’m getting tired- shall we go to bed?” Elena said quite loudly as if she wanted everyone to hear her. “Of course my darling” he kissed her hand and the both got up hand in hand. “I might follow actually- goodnight” Caroline smiled at me and Damon who were sat left confused. “It’s eleven o clock on Christmas Eve?” He frowned shaking his head.
“Yeah that was beyond weird” I pulled a disturbed face. “You’re not tired are you?” He turned to me with a smile. “Mmh Mmh no way” I shook my head. “Let’s get some drinks then” Damon nodded to the kitchen. “bourbon?” He raised an eyebrow. “Sure Damon” I laughed following him in. “If only we had some brothers bond bourbon then we’d really be having a party” Damon sighed. “What’s your obsession with that?” “Its old- it’s the first bourbon I ever tried- I was hooked but, I’ve never been able to find it again- it must have been very smally distributed” he explained to me.
“I’m sure one day you’ll be able to try it again Damon” I promoted leaning over the counter as he poured out our drinks. “Hopefully” he shrugged smiling at me. He didn’t look away though. Once he was caught on he kept staring. “Damon- you’re going to spill it” I nodded to the drink, he’d poured way too much in. “Oh” he shook his head coming back to reality and pulling the bottle away. “It’s alright nothing I can’t handle” he wiggled his eyebrows.
“Oh I know” I turned my head to the side as he passed me my drink. “You know- I’m glad your here y/n- if I had to choose anyone I wanted to stay awake with it would have been you” he told me coming over to my side. “Well, I have the same opinion Damon” I stood up straight and he edged forward tilting his head down. “I had some good advice today, I didn’t think it was but after I’d had a thought about it…” “oh yeah? What was that advice?” I questioned swallowing nervously.
“There’s always risk in any relationship, even a friendship- us being friends that’s risky” he started, his eye contact never stopped. My stomach was twisting in every way possible. “So us being more than friends can’t be anymore risky that it already is” he breathed. I didn’t know what to say, but I knew what I wanted to do. Damon must have had the same idea because he leant towards my lips. Out of nowhere the clocked dinged indicating it was officially Christmas.
Mine and Damon’s heads swung towards the clock jumping out of our skins as we were so focused on the moment. I turned back smiling at him. “Merry Christmas handsome” I whispered putting my hand on his neck and guiding him towards my face. Damon smiled before meeting my lips and FINALLY. Finally I was kissing the man I’d dreamed of kissing for months. It was better than I’d imagined, he’d obviously had years of experience but he was a great kisser.
He pulled me closer to him by my hips kissing me passionately back, as if he didn’t want the moment to end. As if he’d wanted to do it for months. When we finally pulled away he kept me close and shined a bright grin looking into my eyes. “Merry Christmas gorgeous”. I giggled childishly into his chest and Damon pulled me into a bear hug. We heard whispering coming from the corridor before a bombarding entrance of the whole group whooping and clapping.
“Good plan girls” Stefan chuckled coming in with Elena on his hip. “Plan?” I frowned still in Damon’s arms. “Mmh, the whole of today was a set up to get you two to admit you liked each other and make a move” Caroline giggled behind her hair. My mouth dropped and I looked up to Damon. “I- can’t even be mad” he rolled his eyes laughing. “God” I put my face in my hand. “I suppose I should be thanking you” I sighed looking back up. “You’re welcome! We’re all so happy for you” Bonnie winked at us curled up in each others arms.
“Now, shall we get a few bottles open it’s Christmas!” Elena threw her arms out but Damon just laughed shaking his head. “No no no, You all wanted to go to bed, I think me and y/n want to do the same now” he smirked, my heart jumped out of my chest but I wasn’t complaining. I looked up at him with wide excitement in my eyes. “Ew!” Stefan laughed covering his ears. “Come on princess grab your stuff you know what rooms mine” Damon winked as he began walking out the room backwards.
I was in for one hell of a Christmas.

As your head lay smashed against the pavement, you watch your boyfriend maybe if you hadn't of met him eleven years ago all these dangers and threats wouldn't matter because without you he lead a nice life.
So despite him fighting for your life you couldn't help but think of a clever idea, to forget him. To pretend to forget him and maybe he'd move on, maybe this way he wont be attacked, it was to protect him.
he runs over to me and as I pretend to be unconscious he places his hands under my head, lifting it slowly.
"y/n, please y/n." his voice echoed through my mind, if i was to play this idea out, i'd have to stick by it. I blink, my eyes eventually opening to reveal his worrying expression.
My eyes stare at his, trying to feel no connection to him whatsoever "who are you?" my heart ached as the words slipped away from my mouth, a familiar sharp feeling in my body as I hoped it wouldn't hurt me this much to say those three words.
Damons lip quivers, running his hands along my cheek "it's me, Damon. Y/n, y/n?" he says and I take his blood covered hands off of my cheek "Damon? I don't know a Damon. Last I checked my boyfriend was James." I mumble confused.
Sitting up from Damons arms "no you can't play this cruel, twisted joke on my y/n. You can't do this." he says with tears forming in his eyes "i'm sorry you must be mistaken, I don't know you." I mumble, Stefan walks up beside him as Damon rubs his tears away keeping his tough facade alive.
"y/n?" Stefan says "Oh Stefan, god theres a familiar face." I act surprised to see Stefan "a familiar face?" Damon mutters "You met me first." Damon says trying not to show the emotion in his voice "I'm afraid not, I know Stefan Salvatore but who the hell are you?" I question him.
"Look y/n just come home with us and we'll run you through everything." Stefan says catching on to the fact that I couldn't 'remember' anything. Stefan walks up to me cautiously, placing a hand out for me to grab as Damon rolls his eyes storming off.
nine months later
"Good morning." I smile to Damon, I continued to uphold this not remembering thing and its been keeping this whole house out of drama so far.
Damon nods, he had been acting different recently. More sad, miserable if you will. He drags himself across the kitchen, opening the fridge and pulling out a blood bag.
He turns to me "you know..." he pauses watching me do the dishes "nine months ago, you wouldn't have woken up in a bed on the other side of the house." he says before leaving the house "what does that mean?" I ask him rushing after him.
"Damon?" I ask as he stops in front of his car "You never told me... about us." I clear my throat "And I don't intend to." he scoffs before getting in his car.
Jumping in the passenger seat he turns to face me "tell me." I demand and he shakes his head, insisting that it isn't what I'd want to here "if it wasn't what I wanted to hear, then I would not be sat here... asking." my voice was gentle trying not to overdo this charade.
"you and i dated, that was all." he says before turning the key in the ignition "it was more than that, i can feel it." I say and he shakes his head "nothing more than kindred spirits." before stepping on the gas.
I remained in the passenger seat, as we left the driveway. Somehow he managed to forget I was in the car by cranking up the volume of his music.
After a while I noticed a tear rolling down his eye, he pulls over on the side of the road. "You would have been my wife if I simply listened to you." he says "and without you, i felt like I was suffocating, drowning. Like I had no purpose. We were perfectly imperfect for each other, I inspired you to live in the moment, whereas, you would give me purpose after a torturous century of living." his blue eyes pierced into my soul like the did.
"When you opened your eyes nine months ago, on the night I lost you. I lost myself." he mumbled before getting back on the road once more.
"I don't understand, I brought out the good in you?" I ask him, pretend as if I didn't already know. Tears building up in my eyes I try to hide them, only one tear managing to escape.
"you brought out everything in me, the good, the bad, the flaws, the imperfections. I loved every bit of it." he snickered "I don't understand why you didn't try to fight harder for me when I first saw you." I question him.
"Because I love you y/n, and it is because I love you that I cannot be selfish with you. If you didn't remember me, I wasn't going to force it upon you." he muttered.
We continue to drive down the road, I look around Mystic falls and how it had changed since that night.
Eventually we made it back home, Damon and I hadn't spoken to each other after what he had said, it made me question if this was really a good idea.
It wasn't like he had died from these fights, he had won just as much as he had lost if that made any sense.
So before Damon got out of the car I grab his hand "if the old me was here right now, would you want her?" I ask him "I'll always want her even if she was right in front of me." he said coldly before exiting the car and walking straight into the house.
This is wrong, so wrong. To fool the man I love, watch him fall into shreds before me and still love me even if my memory was altered. Damon Salvatore the man who couldn't be broken yet he fell apart when he realised the love of his life wasn't coming back to him.
Even if I wanted to tell him I suddenly remembered him, how would he take it. How different would he be, would he be happier?
I couldn't exactly tell him I forgot him for my better judgement of his survival, he'd kill me. So how exactly would I tell him.
Following shortly behind Damon, I open the door to reveal every single person of the original Mystic Falls gang was sat in the living room. From Tyler the wolf to Matt the inhumane human.
"Looks like they get along fine..." Caroline says confused "Hello?" I say confused and they all stare at me intensely "Who am I?" Elena asks "Elena?" I laugh confused "Look where is Damon?" I ask them "Who am I?" Bonnie asks.
"What is this?" I laugh "We are serious y/n." Stefan buds in "So am I where is Damon?" I say looking around the room.
"he vamped away with some packed bags." Caroline said "What but h- he was, why, he was, what?" I say in utter confusion.
"He left." Elena said.
three months after damon left.
"Stefan..." my voice was irritated, I still hadn't got over the fact the Damon left without a single word, not even a goodbye or a see you later.
Stefan nods looking over to me, I had told Stefan everything from the acting to the thought process behind the acting. He sat with his jaw hitting the floor "I mean Damon wouldn't know right?" I ask biting my nails as he shakes his head "No." he says.
"Wouldn't know what?" a voice says from behind me, I spin around and now my face looks like Stefans from when I told him the truth.
I ran towards Damon with open arms "Damon" I say excitedly, he opens his arms with a huge smile. "Someones excited to see me, did she remember?" Damon says taken aback at first before easing into the hug.
"God I missed you." I say getting a good look at his face "we need to talk." my voice still sounding ecstatic "good news?" he questions and I clear my throat shaking my head remembering that I sounded way too happy to give news that would potentially ruin my relationship... or the one i had.
Stefan looks at Damon and he faces drops almost as if he already knew what was going on "sit" I clear my throat and he nods going to the sofa and sitting down "so..." I take a deep breath in "i've basically been lying to you this whole time because i thought it was best for you to just not always be protecting me because i always get you into weird fights and supernatural disasters and like its very overwhelming but i remembered you this whole time." I say all in one breath.
Damon stares at me, trying to process all the 47 words that had just escaped my mouth.
Maybe 38 minutes passed before Damon finally spoke, Stefan had left and the house was empty besides him and I.
"I need a drink." he says walking down to the basement and retrieving one of the oldest bottles of bourbons in the cellar, he walks outside to sit in the brick wall leaving the door open.
I slowly take steps towards him as if he were a lion ready to pounce and I was just a zookeeper or something.
"I don't believe you." he says pressing his soft spoken lips against the old, bourbon glass. "you don't have too, but i've never lied to you..." I drag out the last few words "besides the past six or so months..." I mumble.
Damons eyes linger on my body, I place my hand on his cheek and he immediately melts into my hand like it was a familiar touch that he had longed for. "It was for your protection." I say quietly.
Still in denial, his looks into my eyes trying to find any part of me that was lying to him "tell me something only you would know." he whispered.
"when you accidentally killed my brother in law, and I was furious at you. You told me that you'd rather me live and be angry at you rather than you having to live another hundred lifetimes without me." I say making myself laugh at the fact that was one of my most angriest moments and I somehow managed to find some peace in it.
"Anyone could know that." he scoffed lifting his head out of my hand "fine" I say getting up and walking away "why did my dad spite me when i was younger?" he asked causing me to turn around "because he thought you stole his money, but you thought it was Stefan and you'd much rather take the hit than your little brother." I say and he stands up in disbelief.
Staring at me before running towards me and wrapping his arms around me "it is you" he says melting into me once again "I told you" I whisper.

bloodsport (snippet)
“Do you trust me?” Damon asked, a smile growing on his lips.
Rue sniffed and nodded in his palms.
“And do you love me?”
She smiled softly. “Yes.”
“Then stop crying and kiss the man that’s absolutely, and completely in love with you.”

SUTTON'S POV
“Hey Sutton I need you on bar tonight!” Sam my Manager said as I walked through the back door of The Cellar. I had been hoping for a shot at bartender but had mostly been serving downstairs in the restaurant area since I started. Suddenly I was nervous I really didn’t want to screw anything up on my first bar shift. Sam could see my anxiety starting to spike and he smiled. “Don’t worry you’ll be with Eli, you’ll be fine. Really you’ll be his extra set of hands so he doesn’t get in the weeds if we get busy.”
I nodded and felt my anxiousness subside a little. Thank God I was working with Eli. The man had a true talent behind the bar plus I didn’t think he’d really need my help but at least I could watch him and hopefully learn a thing or two.
I headed up the stairs and pulled up my long wavy sandy blonde hair out of my face into a high pony tail. Once upstairs I headed straight to the bar, Eli was behind the large wooden bar talking to the few bodies scattered around it. He smiled brightly at two young woman across from him, his tall muscular frame leaning over them from the other side of the bar. They marveled at him which was the usual reaction from most woman. He was a great bartender but him being gorgeous definitely helped his tips.
I stepped behind the bar surveying the scene as I waited for him to step away from the girls. He glanced over noticing me and I smiled and waved. He quickly said something to the girls before turning and walking over to me. Eli was a very attractive man, he was in his mid twenties was very fit, his bright white teeth contrasted nicely against his dark skin and he had beautiful emerald eyes. If I was looking to date he would definitely be a contender but I wasn’t looking for anything like that right now. Plus he had plenty of options I doubted I was on his list anyways.
“So Sam sent you as help huh?” He asked amusement in his eyes and a smile pulling at his lips.
“Yeah, guess you’re stuck with me tonight. Sorry.” I shrugged and smiled back.
“What a bummer.” He said with light hearted sarcasm.
“I have to be honest I haven’t trained on bar much. So not sure how helpful I’ll be.” I laughed.
“Don’t worry babe, I’ll show you the ropes.” He winked and I smiled and rolled my eyes. Eli was such a flirt.
True to his word Eli had been a great teacher, in his down time he showed me where everything was, went over the basic bartending rules, how to pour the draft beer correctly and even how to make a few popular drinks. Thankfully I was already familiar with the computer system so I was able to start and close tabs fairly easily which helped him out when more people came and went.
Around ten Eli told me I could go ahead and take the next customers he said he was right there if I had any questions but I knew he just wanted to go flirt with the same girls who hadn’t left their spot and were now on their fourth drink.
I smiled and went back to rinsing glasses and placing them in the dirty rack and restacking the clean glasses. When I finished my last glass a handsome man who looked to be in his mid thirties sat down, I glanced over at Eli who nodded at me to go ahead and take him.
“What can I get for you?” I asked. He looked up at me and gave a polite smile but his dark blue eyes looked a little sad.
“Bourbon please, neat.” He said.
“We have Wild Turkey, Jim Bean, Evan Williams, Makers?” Eli made it a point to tell me to try to upswell when possible. Don’t give them well Liqour unless they ask for it specifically.
“Wild turkey’s fine. Actually make that two.” He said looking off to his right. I nodded and grabbed two low ball glasses pouring the amber liquid in them making sure I measured correctly. I sat them in front of him at the bar and he handed me his credit card. “Just keep it open.” He smiled.
“Will do.” I said returning his smile.
I successfully opened his tab noticing the name on his card, Alaric Sultzman. What an interesting name. Since everyone was good for the moment I took the opportunity to check my phone. Carliegh texted me asking if I wanted to meet her and Mira at the Grill when I got off. They said they were playing pool with some cuties and were deep in some whiskey sours. I told them I’d let them know when I was off and would meet them if they were still there.
As I looked up a man was sitting down next to Alaric. I had to do a double take at him. He was about six foot, he had lean muscles I could see from under his black t-shirt and he had the strongest jawline I’d ever seen. He looked maybe early to mid twenties, it was hard to tell. His black hair was a little disheveled and he had a light skin tone. I swallowed and made sure my mouth was closed, this man didn’t need to see me gaping at him that would be extremely embarrassing.
I looked anywhere else, scanning the bar but eyes kept drifting back to him. This was new I had never been this instantly attracted to someone before. I kept myself busy around the bar hoping Eli would tell me he didn’t need me soon since it was emptying out a bit so I could meet up with the girls.
“Excuse me.” I heard and my head snapped in the direction it came from, Alaric was beckoning me and now the icy blue eyes of the insanely good looking stranger were also on me. I felt heat flush to my face and tried my best to hide it with a smile as I walked over to the men. I tried my best to focus solely on Alaric so I wouldn’t get too flustered.
“Yes sir.” I said stopping in front of them.
“Another round please.” Alaric said.
“You should just make it the whole bottle.” My eyes landed on the stranger next to Alaric as he spoke wearing a smirk while his eyes were looking into mine intently and for a moment I felt lost in them.
Eli appeared behind me his hands on my shoulders almost startling me. “Damon, Ric.” He said looking at the men. His name was Damon… “Good to see y’all, I got a bottle of something special for y’all.” He said and quickly disappeared and I politely smiled at the men.
“Guess Eli’s got y’all covered.” I said and stepped away trying to control my breathing. Jesus this was embarrassing. I took the opportunity to take the dirty rack of glasses downstairs to the dishwasher. I glanced back at the two men and Damon’s eyes were on me with an unreadable expression. I quickly hurried down the steps and toward the kitchen away from his gaze.
When I returned with a clean rack of glasses I kept my eyes straight ahead as I headed back behind the bar. Out of the corner of my eye I could tell Alaric and Damon were still there. Eli was chatting with them laughing about something. I felt eyes on me again as I sat the rack down I tentatively looked up seeing all three men looking my way. “Hey Sutton come here.” Eli called.
Sucking in a deep breath I walked over not sure what to expect of this encounter. “I wanted to formally introduce you to my two best customers.” Eli laughed. “Alaric Sultzman and Damon Salvatore.” I smiled at both of them politely trying to be normal. I was sure my cheeks were bright red at this point. “And this is my brightest trainee Sutton Harte.” Eli said grinning at me with his hand on the small of my back. I was surprised by the contact but wasn’t weirded out by it necessarily. It was probably just the way he was, naturally flirty and all.
“Hi, nice to meet you both.” I said. Alaric smiled back at me pleasantly. I saw something flash in Damon’s eyes as he glanced at Eli’s hand still resting on me. Quickly he recovered and he smiled.
“Pleasure to meet you Sutton.” Damon said with a sexy smirk. His eyes glanced to Eli like he was gaging his reaction. Weird.
“Eliiiiiii!“ One of the drunk girls shouted giving him her best pouty lips.
“Duty calls.” He said smirking and stepped away from us. I just rolled my eyes and smiled, typical Eli.
“So are you new to town?” Alaric casually asked sipping his drink.
“Not new new. I’m not really from here, but I go to the university here. I’m a junior. I transferred here last spring.” I said.
“How’re you liking it? I’ve been looking at potentially teaching there. I teach history over at the high school now.” Alaric responded.
“Oh I love it. It’s definitely smaller than my previous school but that was one of the reasons I came here.” They didn’t need to know it was because I didn’t have the money to stay at the larger university I had been at. “They have a lot of good programs too.” I finished and Alaric nodded and smiled.
“So what’re you studying?” Damon asked bringing my attention back to him and those insanely blue eyes of his.
“Right now Business.”
“Right now?” He raised an eyebrow at me.
I laughed nervously. “Yeah.. I’ve changed my major a few times. I know as a junior I should have more of an idea what I wanna do but I don’t.” Damon’s expression seemed intrigued and Alaric nodded understandingly.
“Don’t worry you still have plenty of time to figure it all out. It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do.” Alaric gave me a reassuring smile.
“Thanks.” I smiled back.
“Don’t worry I still haven’t figured out what I want to do either.” Damon smirked and Alaric rolled his eyes.
“Glad I’m not alone.” I smiled. Eli came back over checking the time on his phone.
“Hey Sutton you can go ahead and head out if you want. I think I’ll be good till close since it’s a week night.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah I’m good.”
“Okay awesome!” I chirped.
“That eager to leave huh? Please tell me I’m not that bad of a trainer..” Eli joked.
“No no, of course not.” I laughed. “My roommates are over at the Grill they wanted me to meet up with them if I got off in time.”
“Ahh Gotcha. Well have fun and thanks for tonight. You did great.” He said his eyes lingering on me longer than usual.
“Thanks for all your help & training me.” He nodded and smiled.
I turned back to Damon and Alaric. “Nice to meet y’all. I’m sure I’ll see you guys around. Have a good night..”
“Have a good night.” Alaric said back and Damon tipped his glass to me as I walked by and headed downstairs toward the exit.
I was especially thankful I had another shirt in my car. I quickly texted the girls and headed down the street toward the Grill.
DAMON’S POV
For whatever reason this tiny blonde bartender in front of me captured my attention. I hadn’t noticed her when I first sat down it wasn’t until Ric had called her over asking for another round that my eyes landed on the petite girl. She was pretty, not in an in your face kinda way but pretty none the less and her ass looked pretty good in the jeans she was wearing.
That wasn’t what caught my curiosity though. I had seen my fair share of attractive woman but it was something else about this girl that intrigued me. Her voice was soft and smooth with a hint of a southern accent, I had to admit it was kind of cute. Kind of. Her eyes were warm like honey and she seemed a little flustered by me which wasn’t a shock, a lot of woman felt that way but I was amused by her and her reactions to me.
I couldn’t put my finger on why when Eli’s hand had rested on the small of her back it annoyed me. She didn’t seem like the type of girl to be with someone as big of a play boy as Eli. The man was busier than I was. But that was also because of Elena…
When Sutton bounced out of the bar I felt a twinge of disappointment which was also very strange. Once she was gone I felt Ric’s eyes one me.
“What?” Said without looking at him.
“She’s cute.”
“I think she’s a little young for you Ric.” I said looking at him as I took another sip of my drink.
He rolled his eyes. “You know I didn’t mean for me.”
“You know I’ve sworn off woman at the moment.” I said casually.
“You mean woman not named Elena?” I glared at him now.
“Careful Ric.” I said narrowing my eyes at him. It was a totally fucked up situation. I was in love with my brother’s girl. He had left her here making a deal with Klaus to save my life and I spent my summer helping her track him down. Now Stefan was back, Elena still loved him and wanted to be with him, Klaus was around and I was somewhere in the middle of all this bullshit trying to keep my brother in check for the girl we both love.
I knew deep down Elena felt something for me I could feel it this summer, there were moments and glimpses but that’s all they were and she kept them buried especially now that Stefan was back. Being number two to Stefan was something I’d grown to be familiar with, to our father, to Katherine and now to Elena.
“I’m calling it a night.” Ric said after a little while signaling to Eli to close out his tab. I nodded and finished my drink as well. We both got up heading down the stairs and out of the building.
“Look Damon, I’m not trying to be dick here but maybe for now at least you should just give the whole Elena thing a rest. I know how much you care about her I do—“
“Ric.” I stopped him mid sentence, we weren’t doing this not tonight. I couldn’t do this and I wouldn’t. “You’re my best friend but if you don’t stop right there—“ he raised his hands and gave me a pointed look before turning around and heading to his car and I did the same.
I didn’t really want to go home but I didn’t want to go back The Cellar either since it was pretty deserted. Stefan would no doubt be brooding at home and I was avoiding Elena since she was in full put Stefan back together mode. I decided to head over to the Grill maybe a few more drinks might help me pass the time.
Going to finally start sharing this story I've been working on for a long time. Please let me know what you think! I have about 20k words already written for this so i'll be releasing chapters as I polish them up. Thanks for reading <;3

I'm missing two fics, and I could've sworn both were Damon x OC but I'm not finding them on AO3, where I thought I read them.
One is an Oc/SI wakes up/is transported into Vicki Donovan.
Another is an oc who I swear is being abused by her father in the story- Damon kills him, I think?- and there's this whole thing where she and Damon both use her window to get in and out of the house a lot.

Thrall
It’s literally been three days and I’ve already written an entire Vampire Diaries fic, wtaf is wrong with me?
Anyway, this is set immediately after Damon has his existential crisis in S2E12, the poor tortured angel, he just needs a bloody big hug.  No pun intended, I’m just English, sorry.
Anyway, if you like a bit of introspection and you like a neurodivergent OC and you like it when Damon gets his angst on.... please feel free to give this a read, and maybe even leave a little comment if you want to, I would appreciate it so much!!
Here’s the link to it on ffnet:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14105002/1/Thrall
Here’s the link to the AO3 version:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/40127844
I marked it complete on ffnet because I have intended it to be a standalone story but I left it a little bit open-ended in case anyone wanted me to write more of the story..... I really don’t know what to do with it at this point, but it’s been left in a good enough place for now.

Y/n, over text: Turn around.
Y/n: No, the other way.
Y/n: Wrong way again.
Damon: Where are you??
Y/n: At home, but the idea of you turning aimlessly in circles amuses me.

Warnings- swearing, smoking.
Series- vampire diaries xx
Summary- you and Damon had recently broken up but you still had feelings for him.
-🧡-
“Elena I really don’t want to” I pulled back on her hand outside the club. “Yes you do! You have to get over him babe”
Damon.
It had been three weeks now, I was struggling more than he was that was for sure. But I didn’t want to get over him what if I waited and something happened again. It was so good when it was good it outweighed the bad massively. He was the only person who could make me happy like that, there was no one else for me not anytime soon anyway. It was serious to us. To me. I don’t care what anyone had to say what anyone thought. I’d deal with this how I wanted to.
This wasn’t how I wanted to
“I’m not even sad about it anymore! This is unnecessary, if something happens it happens if it doesn’t im fine ” “you need to get out of your room then” she pushed. Her eyes squinted at mine, the silvery moonlight gave me up and highlighted the tears in my eyes.
“It’s gonna be okay, I’m always here” she smiled softly. Raising her eyebrows, she tucked my hair behind my ears. “Fine let’s go in, I’m fine” my head forcefully nodded and my smile grew wide.
Elena took my hand and in a few minutes we were surrounded by a blanket of loud music. Her eyes widened in excitement at the mass of people dancing, jumping, drinking, singing. This was her thing… her crowd it wasn’t mine I didn’t fit in here. But I was willing to try to.
“I’ll get drinks… I’m gonna need a few before all this” I patted her shoulder while she nodded with a face like a school girl. I found the bar at the back and ordered two drinks and two shots. Three of them were for me.
As I was looking around the club I noticed in one of the booths damon sat with a group of his mates. Kai, Alaric, kol and Klaus were all giggling around the table Clearly drunk. I was happy to see no girls were there if I’m honest. I made eye contact with Kai who was good friends with me and he waved.
Making it clear to Damon I was here.
He turned around and we locked eyes, I went bright red under his stare. He said something to his friends and then started to get up. My shots that where on the table I chucked down my throat.
“What you doing here” Damon asked with his hands in his pockets. “What do you think I’m doing here” I half laughed “fair enough, just watch how much your drinking yeah” he eyed the drinks then looked back at me. We were still friends we were still talking. He still cared? I think.
I wanted to talk to him but my heart just aced. “Why” “because there are a lot of people here and you don’t want to be taken advantage of” he told me seriously. “Your human y/n” he warned me.
I shook my head feeling the vodka go straight there. “Stop pretending you care damon” I sighed drinking the other part of my drink to bear the conversation. I wanted to talk but not like this, not broken up.
“if someone starts on you they will be in the ground” he whispered to me showing his fangs quite openly before stepping backwards “you can’t be saying this stuff now! Why are you doing this to me” Damon looked at me once more before going back where he came from.
My heart skipped a few beats while my eyes became teary once again. I carried on sipping for a moment or two. I’d told my self so many time I can’t cry over damon Salvatore anymore. The more he spoke to me like this the more I believed we’d be back together but I also didn’t wanna get my hopes up. Because that would hurt even more.
I saw two girls go over to the boy table a couple minutes later after I’d had more drinks. They where taking pictures and drinking out of the same glasses I didn’t make it obvious I was staring but Eventually I made my way over to elena in the crowed. We danced for hours drinking more and more. And eventually the boys came over too. Elena was all over Klaus and I’d sort of gravitated towards Kai which Damon didn’t seem to mind much.
“I’m gonna go get some air outside” I shouted over the music to Kai. He nodded and followed me out there “too loud?” He wondered “I just didn’t feel right” we both drunkly laughed after a few seconds at nothing in particular. “How you doing though seriously” “not great” I admitted not going to lie to one of my best friends, “I don’t wanna tell you what to do or anything… but I think it’s best you get over him, don’t wait and get your self hurt”
“Everyone dose” I gulped looking out into the road. “Like I’ve obviously seen everything he’s done and stuff since the break up and I’m telling you… your better than how he’s treating you” “he’s leading me on isn’t he?” I looked at him sadly but kinda seeing it coming too. “he’s telling you he still has feeling for you but he’s not acting like he dose” Kai told me being honest.
“Yeah, I’ve noticed” I said shortly. “It will be okay y/n I’m sure everyone’s saying it but it just takes time” Kai patted my shoulder. “And I’ll be there how ever long it takes” he told me before upping and going back inside the club. I didn’t know what to do with my self, I’m my heart I was saying keep waiting because I loved him but my head was telling me it was done and I needed to move on. It was complicated and I didn’t know how to explain it.
But for some reason no matter what anyone said it didn’t change My mind on how I saw him. From the corner of my tear filled eye I noticed some man walking towards me. There was no one else around outside the club and it was like two in the morning. His lips made a smile covered by his long beard and attached moustache. “I’m lupin, and you are the lucky lady who gets to come hope with me tonight”
I was disgusted and he could tell him my face. To my suprised his face then dropped “are you… not interested” lupin pulled a sorry face at me. My fear dropped away and I slightly smile “not really.. No offence or anything I just am going through a lot” I told him openly. “And don’t feel like getting your mind off it?” He wondered joining me staring at the road. “I need to think about this actually.. and make a decision” I admitted to him and finally myself.
“Hum… sounds deep” “it is” “is that why your put here and not in the club” he wondered shrugging “yeah, couldn’t stand it in there no more” we both laughed kind of. “Last chance beautiful, just think you will never see me again” he pulled out a case of fags and offered me one. “I’ll take a fag but I’ll have to turn down your offer for sex” i brightly smiled at him. Just as the man past me a light he was knocked to the ground. I heard the sound of vamp running and automatically my eyes rolled.
Damon was no where to be seen in this second but he’d be back for him. “What was that?” Lupin stood up worriedly. In a split second damon appeared in front of us holding lupin by the collar and pinning him against the wall. “Damon will you stop it!” I snapped straight away being used to this and knowing how to handle it. Usally I was enough to calm him down but not this time.
“No stay out of this” he eyed me dangerously before staring daggers at the man he held up at the wall. “What do you think your doing” Damon hissed moving a hand to his neck. “Don’t ever talk to this girl again do you hear me? I’ll fucking dig you into the ground with my heel” Damon warned dropping lupin. Hard. He jumped up and ran for his life not even stopping for his lighter back. “Thanks for that I got a free lighter” I rolled my eyes in pissy mood.
“Didn’t i fucking tell you that would happen” “it’s not your place damon! Not anymore” I sighed the last part sadly.
“It will always be my place y/n!” “Even now we’re friends” he emphasised before vamp running off into the night. My eyes once again rose to there fullest.
“STOP FUCKING LEADING ME ON” I shouted out at the sky while the tears stained my face.
masterlist - for more like this.

can u write something about damon just being soft and whipped for his girl. just need a damon fluffy fic rn 😩😩
Tumblr media
Everything to him
Damon stood with his arms around his girl’s waist as she finished her makeup in the mirror. His chin on top her head as he watched as she layered the romantic red lipstick onto her soft plump lips. He could only hope to have their prints all over him by later that night as she looked herself over.
“You look perfect” he mumbled when she frowned a little and tilted her head. “There’s absolutely nothing I would change, in fact although the makeup has you looking all this much sexier, even without you wear the face of an angel” he purred seeing her lips lift into a smile and her head turn to look at him.
“I’d say flattery gets you no where but it seems to have gotten you rather far as of now” she lifted her arms over his head and round his neck while batting her lashes as him. He pulled her closer so his lips ghosted hers and his eyes dropped at the feeling of her fingers in his hair.
“I only tell the truth to you” he whispered gravelly and she hummed in reply, scratching at his head slowly knowing how it affected him. His eyes shut and pressed his forehead to hers “god I love you” he muttered and her smile grew
“I love you Damon Salvatore” she grinned and he tilted his head slightly to have his lips against hers. He allowed her to take the lead, moving her mouth against his and Brighton’s her other hand up to cup his face as both his hands slid up her back to hold the tops of her arms.
“You’re going to ruin my hair” he muttered and she laughed lightly against his lips before pulling back to look at him, her fingers running through each lock
“I like it messy” she decided before brushing it through with her hands and positioning it in a way that she found suited him best. His eyes glossed over as he watched her loving smile and felt her gentle touches. Her fingertips dances down the back of his neck and round to the front before she adjusted his leather, pulling it tighter on him and wetting her painted lips. Her palms smoothed down his chest, her deep red nails dragging down his black t-shirt before pulling up the hem only to groan at his display of abs. Her thumb tracing his happy trail and stopping at the top of his low-hanging jeans. Her fingers skimming over his belt in a teasing manner.
“Y/n…” he muttered feeling his body getting aroused by her actions “we have a reservation”he reminded, a breath of air leaving him as her hand cupped his crotch through his trousers “baby…” he whispered “you can almost never get a table there”
She sighed and gave him a light squeeze, listened to him grunt and then fixed his shirt and stepped back admiring him “okay…but after…” she pouted and he nodded eagerly
“After you can do anything you want.”
“Anything?”
“Anything.”
She bit her bottom lip gently and held her hand out which he quickly took with a lustful smirk in place.
He kept a hand in hers the whole drive there, only breaking the hold for a second as they got out the car before an arm was back round her hips. She smoothed her cherry coloured dress down, adjusting it to rest a little lower on her thighs as it had ridden up in the car. His gaze dropped to her heels which make a distinct ‘click’ with each step she took. His eyes followed back up her gorgeous legs, along her beautiful figure and back to her face. Watching as she spoke to the waiter at the front who was finding their reservation in the system with a bashful blush on his cheeks as she flashed her pearly white teeth. Damon knew how easy it was to get lost in her charm.
He was barely aware of the world around them as he followed her to their table by the window, overlooking the sunset which was already meeting the stary night sky. Menus were slipped into both their hands and wine glasses filled as though the staff just knew what they would order.
She looked to him with admiration in her eyes and his lips curled up “I can’t believe you managed to book us in here” she whispered and he smiled back
“I can’t believe you almost had us miss our time slot, we only just made it”
“I’m sure I would’ve made up for it”
his mouth formed a lip lifted grin in response and he glanced down to his wine glass “I don’t doubt that, not for even a second” he muttered under his breath and she offered him another award winning smile which consequently brought his own upon his lips.
Her foot slipped out of her heel to leisurely brush along his leg as their food came and they engaged in pointless yet meaningful conversation and ate their meals. And for one of those rare moments, he felt like he was human again. He felt no urges, no lust for blood or chaos, he was calm. Happy.
He loved Y/n in ways he had never explored. Ways he wasn’t sure how to but he did them regardless and if he was doing it wrong, she didn’t tell him. She just helped him feel it, she chose him first and loved him and solely him and it was all he had ever wanted. All he had ever needed.
His mind often wondered at times like this, just listening to her voice and watching her lips move, and then the way her eyes would shine under the light and her hair would bounce over her shoulders as she waved her hands around in unnecessary gestures.
He knew he was smiling like a teenage boy with a crush but he couldn’t help it, even when she stopped talking and just grinned back at him knowingly. Her hand finding his and squeezing gently as their desserts were placed before them.
“If you’d like…we could skip dessert” Damon whispered suggestively making her smile
“Oh but then we’d have wasted our reservation” she sighed and leaned back in her seat, digging into her sweet dish and watching his eyes darken over slightly before he looked down to his food and begrudgingly ate the heavenly portion.
By the time they had both finished, paid and gotten to the door, a horrific amount of rain was bouncing off the ground.
Y/n turned her head to him before swiping the car keys from his hand and dashing for car making him let out a laugh and chase after her, completely forgetting his vampire abilities and just managing to get into the car before she locked it. Both of them looked at each other with large smiles on their faces before each bursting into fits of laughed and flicking their hands at one another to throw rain-water on their faces.
Eventually they got home and Damon had he run his arms, spinning in circles and running for the ridiculously big bathtub so they could soak together in the warmth of both the water and each others arms.

friends
Tumblr media
summary: *yn* and damon are friends. good friends. just friends. nothing more, nothing less. until elena's eighteenth birthday party and the captain of the waterpolo team comes along, leaving damon wondering how much he really likes that term.
warnings: swearing, drinking, fluff, vampire stuff, cheating (kinda??)
Tumblr media
"What do you think?"
"Give me a spin."
*yn* resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she complied, shuffling her body around in a circle.
"Oooh I really like this one." Caroline observed. She shifted on the small couch placed into the middle of the boutique as she took a few moments to run her eyes over *yn*'s body.
"I think this might be the one."
This time *yn* couldn't restrain herself as she threw her hands up in frustration and huffed.
"Care, you've said that about all of them."
"I'm sorry, it's not my fault you look good in everything!"
*yn* groaned in response as she shoved the curtain across the metal rod, concealing herself from Caroline once more.
"I give up." She exclaimed dramatically as she pulled the red dress over her head. "I'm just going to go with the blue one."
"If that's what it takes for you to stop whining." She heard Caroline mumble on the other side of the curtain.
"I heard that!"
The shrill ringtone of Caroline's phone rung out through the store.
"Oh sorry Elena's calling, be right back."
*yn* shook her head as she heard Caroline answer the phone and hurry out of the store. She slipped the blue dress back on over her head just as her shoulder bag began to vibrate.
She couldn't fight the small smile threatening to tug on her lips at the Caller ID.
"Well if it isn't my second favourite Salvatore brother."
"Ouch, why is it that you're always so mean to me?" Damon's amused voice slipped out through the speaker.
"Because being nice is boring." She answered as she slipped out of the change room.
"Using my own logic against me, I've taught you too well." She smiled at his words as she made her way over to the mirror.
"What are you up to? Down for a little road trip?"
"Can't sorry. Helping Caroline plan Elena's birthday party." *yn* twisted around in front of the mirror, scrutinising the dress from every angle.
"Ah yes the big eighteenth how could I forget."
"Why? Where are you going?" *yn* asked as she finally drew her attention away from the mirror.
"Tennessee."
Her brow furrowed at her answer. "Another potential Stefan victim?"
"Yep. The sheriff gave Elena another location."
"She's not going with-"
"No way. Told her I'd take it on myself."
There was a pause as *yn* glanced out the shop window to make sure Caroline was still out the front on the phone, her ears occupied and unable to listen in.
"They're going to be like the other victims, aren't they?"
"Probably."
She felt herself grow nauseous at the thought of what Damon would no doubt find in Tennessee. Even his verbal reports back to her had been enough to make her skin crawl. If there had been any doubts before if Stefan was a ripper, they were long gone by now.
"Are we ever going to tell her?"
There was a pause on the other end of the line. She heard Damon let out a sigh.
"If I find him and sort him out we won't ever have to."
"Alright just- just let me know how you go ok?" Despite her best efforts she couldn't hide the concern laced through her words.
"Always do. See you at the party."
"See you at the party."
"Oh *yln*-"
Damon's voice crackled through the speaker just as her finger hovered over the button to end the call.
"Yeah?" She pressed the phone to her ear once more.
There was a pause on the other end of the line.
"Wear the red one." *yn* swore she could practically hear his smirk through the phone before he hung up.
*yn* whirled around, the phone still pressed to her ear. Her eyes darted around the store and then out through the windows that revealed the main street of Mystic Falls.
Her heart was thumping in her chest and a blush was creeping up onto her cheeks. Damon was no where to be seen.
"Ugh god Elena is still complaining about this party, I swear it's like no one wants to have fun in this town anymore- are you ok?"
*yn* turned to see Caroline staring at her, brow raised when she noticed her flushed complexion.
"Uh- yeah fine." *yn* lied, swallowing as she turned to go back into the change room.
"Ok..." Caroline studied her before turning her attention back to her phone.
She glanced up once more after a few moments to see *yn* emerging from the change room, back in her jeans and tank top. Her brow furrowed.
"I thought you were getting the blue one?"
"Yeah I um-"
*yn* glanced down at the red material clutched in her arms.
"I changed my mind."
Tumblr media
The bass felt like it was pounding against her skull. Sweaty bodies were brushing against her on all sides. She could already feel the back of her knees start to slick with sweat as she weaved through the crowd.
Apparently this was Caroline's definition of a 'small' party. Bodies occupied every square inch of the Salvatore boarding house. Her eyes slid over the hundred or so faces. Some she recognised from school. Others she had never seen before in her life.
She smoothed down the front of her short dress as she stepped around a couple making out at the bottom of the staircase. She could feel multiple sets of eyes on her as she moved deeper into the house. The waterpolo team bunched in the corner didn't even make an attempt to look away as she walked past.
She smirked to herself. She'd shown up with the intention of looking hot, so far it seemed to be going according to plan. She surveyed the crowd once more. A flash of blonde hair caught her eye, which she instantly made a beeline for.
"Care!"
Caroline swung around at *yn*'s voice, a grin spreading across her lips as she looked her up and down.
"Oh my freaking god you look so hot." She squealed as she lurched forward and wrapped her arms her shoulders.
*yn* laughed and squeezed her tightly back. "So do you."
"Who the hell are these people?"
"Friends of friends." Caroline shrugged. *yn* raised a brow at her before turning to survey the room. Her eyes involuntarily searching for one person in particular.
"C'mon, I need a shot." Caroline announced as she grabbed *yn*'s hand and tugged her towards the drinks table.
*yn* grinned as she let Caroline lead her through the crowd.
"Is everyone here?" *yn* shouted over the thumping bass.
"I think so." Caroline shouted back, her eyes gleaming as she spotted a bottle of tequila.
*yn* turned around, her eyes scanning the crowd once more.
"Oh actually I haven't seen that reporter girl yet, what's her name - Andrea or-"
"What?" *yn*'s neck snapped back around to look at Caroline.
"Andie's coming?"
Caroline paused and glanced up at her. She had just been about to pour the clear liquid into a shot glass.
"Yeah, Damon insisted on inviting her. Poor girl probably didn't have a choice knowing him." Caroline remarked as she turned her attention back to the bottle in her hand.
"Right." *yn* swallowed. She pressed her lips into a hard line. "Yeah."
She felt sick as she glanced down at the tight red dress covering her body. She suddenly felt incredibly stupid. That for even a moment she had let herself divulge in suppressed fantasies, that she'd let herself get hopeful that something might happen with the vampire that was supposed to be nothing more than one of her good friends.
That she had let herself indulge those feelings that she had always worked so hard to deny and ignore.
"Ok here-" Caroline cut herself off, the shot in her hand for *yn* to take suspended in midair.
She studied her friend for a moment. She withheld a sigh when she saw the tears threatening to pool in *yn*'s eyes.
"Ok no." She announced, slamming the shots back onto the table. The sound made *yn* jump, her eyes focusing back on her friend.
"We are so not doing this tonight."
"Wha-"
"You are not letting your night get ruined by Damon Salvatore of all people."
"Care-" *yn* began, glancing over her shoulder quickly to make sure Damon wasn't in sight before turning back to her. "He's my friend."
"Oh please." Caroline scoffed as she folded her arms in front of her chest. "You don't think I can tell when my best friend is crushing on a guy?"
*yn* felt her cheeks redden.
"Although I've been trying to ignore it given it is Damon-"
She ignored the glare *yn* gave her. "- and I've been hoping it was just a little phase, but clearly that was wishful thinking." She sighed as she gestured to *yn* who had opened her mouth to respond.
"I've known for months, so don't even try and deny it."
*yn* clamped her mouth shut. She felt her resolve weaken under Caroline's stare.
"If you tell a soul-"
"-you'll stake me I know. Your secret's safe with me." Caroline insisted.
With that *yn* felt her shoulders slump in defeat as her barriers finally crumbled down.
"I like him. A lot." She admitted.
"I think I always knew there was something there, but I don't think I realised how much until-" She cut herself off and bit her lip as she felt her eyes begin to water.
Caroline's hard gaze softened at the sight. "Hey, it's ok." Caroline comforted her, running a hand down her arm. "Do you want to go somewhere and talk about it?"
"No." *yn* shook her head as she sniffed. "No, like you said. I don't want this to ruin my night. It's been so long since we've actually had fun."
It was true. Before Damon and Stefan returned to Mystic Falls, *yn* was the life of the party, drinking almost every weekend and staying out way past curfew - much to her parents chagrin. But now, she could barely even remember what it felt like to be drunk and let loose.
Her answer made Caroline's eyes brighten. "Exactly, and you look way too hot right now to be crying over a guy."
*yn* followed Caroline's gaze to look around the room of warm bodies. Her eyes flitted over a few guys, her confidence sparking once more when she saw their eyes were already on her.
"You could have literally anyone you want in here."
She could have anyone she wanted, except for Damon. Almost as if she could read her mind, Caroline grabbed her hand.
"Ok, in my opinion you have two options right now." Caroline continued.
"You can go and tell Damon how you feel and let it out, or-" She paused as she raised the cup up to *yn*'s face. "You can get trashed with me and forget all about stupid boys."
*yn* raised a brow, not missing the hint of bitterness in Caroline's voice. It sounded a little bit too personal to just be about Damon. She decided to let it go however, as her eyes flickered down to the red solo cup and then back at Caroline.
"Make it a double."
Caroline's grin widened, "now you're sounding like my best friend."
*yn* watched as she eagerly poured extra into her cup, internally wincing at how free handed she was being with the liquor.
"To being hot and getting drunk." Caroline toasted once she'd handed *yn* her drink.
"To being hot and getting drunk." *yn* echoed, clinking their cups together before pressing it to her lips. She winced as the liquor burned her throat. She definitely had not missed that feeling.
"Ugh, speak of the devil."
*yn* followed Caroline's gaze behind her shoulder. She twisted around to see Elena and Damon making their way down the stairs.
Damon was dressed in black jeans and a blue button down with the sleeves rolled up his forearms. He looked annoyingly hot, as usual.
The pair hadn't spotted them yet as Caroline and *yn* made their way through the crowd towards them.
"Happy birthday!" Her and Caroline chorused as they reached them.
"You look amazing." *yn* grinned as she pulled her other best friend in for a tight hug.
"Thank you, so do you. The red is hot." Elena chuckled as they pulled away from each other.
*yn* could feel Damon's eyes on her but kept her focus on Elena.
"You like?" Caroline asked her, gesturing to the party around them.
"I-" Elena cut herself off as she glanced around the room. "This is keeping it small?"
Caroline didn't answer her, instead shooting her an innocent smile.
Elena couldn't fight the grin spreading across her lips as she let out a dramatic and defeated huff, "what are we drinking?"
Caroline giggled and gripped Elena's arm and tugged her towards the drinks table.
*yn* watched them go, feeling Damon's eyes still on her. Caroline's words echoed in her head. She was right. Just because she had feelings doesn't mean she had to act weird or let it get to her. He was still her friend, first and foremost. There was no reason to change how she was around him.
She took a breath and made sure her face was the perfect picture of normalcy before turning around to meet his gaze.
"Hey."
"Hey yourself." He answered, his eyes dragging down her front before flicking up to her face.
"Nice dress."
"Thanks, I had help picking it out."
A smirk twitched up onto his lips. "Well, they've got excellent taste. They're a good friend."
Friend. The word stung more than it usually did.
She forced a smile onto her lips, "that they are."
"*yn*! Get over here we're doing birthday shots!" Elena called out to her.
*yn* glanced over her shoulder and nodded before looking back up at Damon.
"Sorry, duty calls." She shrugged innocently.
"Please." He gestured for her to go. It was then that she noticed the bottle of bourbon in his hand. "Don't let me stop you."
She shot him one last grin before making her way towards Elena and Caroline.
Damon's eyes followed her the whole way there.
Tumblr media
"I am every parents worst nightmare." Alaric sighed. "I am the chaperone teacher from hell."
"I love high school parties." Damon grinned as he jumped up onto the ledge.
"Isn't Andie supposed to be coming?"
"10 o'clock broadcast, she'll be here in a little bit."
"Uh huh." Ric remarked as he took a deep drink. Damon's brow furrowed as he glanced up from his glass.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"What is what supposed to mean?"
"That little face you just made. Something wrong with Andie?"
"With your fake compelled girlfriend? No not at all." Ric drawled sarcastically.
"Hey it's a complicated dynamic ok."
"Or it's a distraction."
Damon's eyes narrowed even further. "Distraction from what exactly Ric?"
"Hey Mr Saltzman!" A loud voice prevented Ric from answering.
They both glanced up to see a tall, muscular guy approaching them through the door that led into the party. He was wearing a Mystic Falls High varsity jacket.
Damon frowned when he saw a flash of red behind him. He froze mid sip when he saw that flash of red belonged to *yn*'s dress.
"Jake." Alaric nodded in greeting.
Jake came to a stand still in front of them, a wide grin on his face. "*yn* told me you were chaperoning."
Then all eyes were on *yn*, who was now standing beside him. Jake's arm wrapped around her shoulders to pull her against him.
Damon felt something twist inside him.
"Had to see it for myself."
"Here I am." Alaric chuckled awkwardly.
"See I told you!" She giggled as she swayed against him. Her eyes were glassy and cheeks were flushed. A bottle in her hand.
"Badass Mr Saltzman." Jake complimented. It was then that his eyes landed on Damon. Confusion flashed across his features as he tried to place him.
"Oh Jake this is my friend." *yn* introduced, "Damon Salvatore."
Friend. It was what he was to her, the correct title to describe their relationship. But tonight, in front of this guy, it prodded something inside him. Unfurling inside him like a wasp injecting its barbed stinger into his veins.
"Salvatore... oh shit so you own this place?" Jake's eyes lit up in recognition.
"Home sweet home." Damon remarked, unable to hide the annoyance in his voice as he took a deep sip of his bourbon.
"It's dope. Sickest party location for sure." Jake complimented.
"Oi Masters!"
The group turned around to see another boy standing at the precipice of the home. "We're about to start another round, get your ass in here!"
"Beer pong." Jake explained to the group. "I'm the reigning champion." He boasted proudly. Damon rolled his eyes when Jake glanced down at *yn* for a reaction who giggled and patted his chest.
"I didn't realise we were in the presence of such a high performance athlete." He remarked earning a snort from Ric.
The liquor swishing around in Jake's stomach seemed to hinder his ability to pick up on Damon's sarcasm as he looked up and shot him another grin.
"Alright, it was nice meeting you Damon. See you in school Mr Saltzman."
Ric tilted his head in acknowledgement and Damon simply shot him a tight lipped smile.
"See you guys later." *yn* waved before bursting into a fit of giggles as Jake eagerly pulled her back inside.
Damon glanced down. His grip on his glass tightened. Jake's hand was entwined with hers.
Ric glanced between the disappearing couple and Damon.
"Careful buddy, you might break that glass."
"I hate high school jocks." Was all Damon responded with as he drained his drink and immediately reached for the bottle.
"What's his deal anyway?"
"Who? Jake Masters?" Alaric queried. He let out a scoff when Damon inclined his head.
"Uh I don't know, he's the captain of the waterpolo team. Not the greatest at history, thinks he's gods gift to women, the usual." Alaric shrugged.
Damon hummed in response. He swirled his drink in his hand absentmindedly as his eyes fixed on the doorway that *yn* and Jake had disappeared through.
"What time is Andie getting here again?" Ric asked him.
"Damon." Ric repeated after a few moments.
"What?"
Ric tried to hide his amused smirk as he studied his friend. "I said what time is Andie getting here again?"
"Oh uh-" Damon's eyes shifted back to the doorway. "11 or something." He spoke dismissively.
Almost as if they had a mind of his own, his legs pulled him up onto his feet. Unable to fight the pull to head inside anymore, he slammed his glass down. "I'm just going to go grab another drink."
Ric raised a brow and glanced at the nearly full bottle of bourbon placed between them. He smirked in amusement.
"You do that buddy."
Tumblr media
"Oops sorry!"
Damon glared as another drunk teenager fumbled into him. He pressed the bottle to his lips and tilted his head back. His brow furrowed when the taste of bourbon didn't reach his tastebuds.
He glanced down and cursed under his breath when he saw it was empty. He tossed it to the ground before promptly plucking another bottle out of the hands of a girl passing him who looked like she was about to puke.
"No no, trust me you don't want this." He stared into her eyes, "you want to go outside and puke your guts out on the grass, not on my expensive leather couch."
He rolled his eyes as she nodded numbly and walked past him. He pressed his body against the wooden support beam, his eyes drifting over the unfamiliar faces.
"If you're looking for *yn*, I last saw her in the stoner den."
He glanced to his left to see Elena standing beside him.
"I wasn't. But thanks for the update." He answered as he pressed the new bottle to his lips.
Elena didn't need to know that he'd spent the last twenty minutes trying to find her and had now given up and decided to sulk in the corner.
"Whatever you say."
His eyes narrowed as he glared down at her. She met his gaze with an innocent smile. He resisted the urge to ask her what she meant by that, because a part of him knew exactly what she was hinting at - which had been exactly what Ric had been hinting at - and that was a conversation he wasn't exactly ready to face.
"Have fun sulking." She patted his shoulder and disappeared into the crowd. He watched her go as he took another gulp. What had started out as a fun night was quickly becoming a chore.
He stiffened when his ears detected a laugh that he knew like the back of his hand. Sure enough, it wasn't long until his eyes fell on *yn*.
He clenched his jaw when he saw that she was following after Jake Masters. He was still holding her hand, and was now leading her towards the centre of the room where a dance floor had formed.
Jake turned to *yn* and leant down, whispering in her ear as he encircled his arms around her waist. She laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck as the two began to move to the heavy bass.
As Jake moved, a vein in his neck pulsed out. Damon felt the veins stir under his eyes. All he needed was to sink his teeth into that vein and he could rip his head clean-
"Hasn't anyone ever taught you it's rude to stare?"
Damon ripped his eyes away from the couple, turning his steely gaze to Caroline.
"What do you want blondie." He muttered as he turned his attention back to the dance floor.
"Nothing. Just here to remind you that you are in front of hundreds of people so now is not really the time to get your dracula on."
He rolled his eyes, "I'm fine."
"Really? Because to me it looks like you're about to go rip Jake Masters head off."
Damon's gums ached at he mention of his name.
"Don't you have other things to be worried about blondie?" He sneered.
"Not really."
"Not even your little wolf boy getting it on with a leggier version of you over there?"
Caroline followed his gaze to see Tyler and none other than slutty Sophie of all people grinding on each other in the middle of the room. Caroline ground her teeth and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"Doesn't bother me." Her voice raised an octave.
"You sure about that? I think that bottle is suffocating." Caroline glanced down and huffed as she loosened the grip on the wine bottle.
"This isn't about me." Caroline hissed as she turned to face him.
"This is about you admitting that seeing Jake and *yn* together is driving you crazy."
"Why would it?"
"Uh gee Damon, I don't know let me think, maybe because you have feelings for her?"
Her words were like a slap in the face. It was the first time anyone had said it out loud. Had dared to voice what they had all been thinking. All of a sudden it felt very real. Very much a possibility that Damon did indeed have feelings for his friend. He felt like the room was closing in on him.
Damon shook his head and forced a chuckle out past his lips, "sorry blondie, but you don't know what you're talking about."
"Really?" She raised her brow, "so that doesn't bother you in the slightest?"
He turned his head and his eyes found *yn*'s figure instantly. His jaw clenched and he pursed his lips.
She had turned around to press her back against Jake's. His hands were roaming her side, brushing the red fabric higher up her thighs. He was placing kisses along her neck and muttering into her ear which was making her giggle.
That single wasp inside him had now spawned into a hive, stinging him from the inside out. Right then and there, he could have ripped the heads off every single person in this room. Tear them limb from limb. Anything to get rid of this sick feeling in his stomach.
A feeling he hadn't felt in a long time, perhaps ever.
A feeling you most definitely did not have towards a friend.
"Oh is that Jake Masters with *yn*?" Elena had reappeared beside him.
"Good for her, he's so hot-"
Damon didn't hear anything else after that, because in that moment Jake had leant in and whispered into her ear once more.
"What do you say we go find somewhere quieter to talk?"
His pulse was ringing in his ears, Jake's smarmy voice slithering around in his head. His legs had moved before he had even decided to. Making a beeline for *yn*.
He had no idea what his plan was. All he knew was that if he didn't get her away from his guy, he was going to murder someone. Jealousy had never agreed with him. It made him even uglier than usual.
"I need to talk to you."
*yn* twisted around in Jake's arms, her eyes widening in surprise at the sight of Damon standing in front of her.
"I'm a little busy."
Damon glared at Jake behind her before his eyes flickered down to her.
"It's important."
"I'm sure it can wait." She shot back.
Jake glanced between them, his brow furrowing as he tried to understand what was going on.
"Jake-" Damon began as he locked eyes with the teenager. "Why don't you go do us proud and win another beer pong championship." He cocked his head and grinned, "and don't come back."
Jake's eyes clouded over momentarily, before he blinked and his eyes focused on *yn*.
"Will do!" Jake grinned.
"Damon!" *yn* protested. It was futile as Jake's hands slipped from around her waist. They watched as he marched towards the kitchen with a determined pace.
"What the hell." She growled as she glared up at him. "I was having fun."
"Of course you were, who wouldn't be with the reigning beer pong champion of Mystic Falls." Damon drawled as he gripped her elbow and dragged her through the crowd.
"I wasn't planning on marrying the guy." She snapped back as he led her up the stairs. "He's hot, it's a party. You do the math."
He gritted his teeth at her answer as he guided her into his bedroom.
"You're drunk."
She huffed as she stormed into the centre of the room.
He shut the door. The noise from the party underneath them was immediately dampened. Now only a dull roar, background noise that occasionally seeped in through the floorboards.
"I don't want you making a decision you'll regret tomorrow."
She inhaled sharply before swivelling around to face him. Her fists clenched at her sides.
"That's not your decision to make."
"You're right. It's not." He nodded as he stalked towards her, "but I'm the one who's going to have to pick up the pieces if you get hurt."
She let out a bark of laughter. "Get hurt? I was dancing with him not running off to get eloped."
"Well we all know where it was heading."
Her eyes narrowed at his response.
"Last time I checked you're my friend, not my parent."
Friend. There it was again. That one little noun that was causing so much heartache. So much turmoil inside him.
*yn* knew she should leave it at that. But anger and liquor never mixed well inside her. And she was hurt and confused. All she had wanted to do was distract herself from him and her feelings, yet now it seemed like she couldn't escape him.
Now she felt like she was going crazy because if she didn't know any better, she could have sworn he was jealous.
"Don't you have anything better to do? Isn't your girlfriend supposed to be here?"
Damon didn't miss the way her lips almost curled into a sneer as they formed the word.
"She's working late."
His answer made her stomach drop. Of course they were still together. How stupid could she be to even let herself think for one moment that they might have broken up, that he might-
"Right." She nodded. "Well, I appreciate the whole friend intervention thing or whatever this is." She gestured to him as she took a few steps forward. "But I'm going back to the party."
She had made it all the way past him when she felt his hand curl around her forearm, rooting her in place.
"You seem to be really enjoying using the word 'friend' tonight."
Silence fell over the pair. Her eyes fluttered shut as she inhaled shakily. She opened her eyes once more and stared at the closed door. She could feel Damon's eyes burning holes in the back of her head.
His hand was yet to leave her bare arm.
"Well that's what you are."
She remembered Caroline's words as she tried to control her nerves. She exhaled as she tried to calm her beating heart as she turned to face him.
"Right?"
She kept her gaze defiant and determined as they locked eyes. He searched her eyes, seemingly looking for something in particular.
"I don't know." He began as he took a step toward her.
His ring band was burning into her skin. Her heart hammered.
"Do friends get the urge to rip the heads off arrogant jocks who touch their other friends?"
*yn* swallowed as she held his gaze. Her mind was going at a million miles an hour. She could barely process what was happening.
"Do friends feel physically ill when they hear the word friend being used to describe their relationship?"
Another step forward. His piercing green eyes flickered down to her lips and then back to her eyes.
"Damon-"
She cut herself off as Damon's hand cradled the side of her face. His teeth captured his bottom lip as his eyes once again fell to her mouth. The pad of his thumb glided over her bottom lip.
"I don't think I want to be your friend anymore *yn*." He murmured, his voice causing goosebumps to rise on the back of her neck.
"In fact, I don't think I've hated the word as much as I do right now." He whispered as he pressed his forehead against hers.
The alcohol running through her veins was clouding her reasoning, not even giving her a chance to think about Andie or Jake, or what the implications of this in the morning would be.
But in that moment, she didn't care. All she could think about was the smell of his cologne invading her senses and the feeling of his fingers running along her hot skin. About how desperate she was to have his mouth on hers.
All it took was the slightest tilt of *yn*'s chin to connect their lips. Her eyes fluttered shut as he finally let go of her arm to bring his other hand up to her cheek, cupping her face in his hands.
Their lips moved in sync as she pressed herself against him, nearly letting out a moan at the feeling. Her hands threaded themselves through his hair as he moved one hand to ensnare her waist. His hand travelled down just as she-
"They're kissing!" The muffled voice on the other side of the door made them pull apart in surprise. She glanced over her shoulder.
"Caroline?" *yn* asked as Damon ran a hand over her lower back. Damon nodded.
"And Elena."
*yn* let out a breathy laugh as she turned back to look up at him.
"Moment ruined?" He asked, a rare smile spreading across his lips as he studied her.
"Kinda." She grinned back as she leant up to capture his lips in another kiss.
They pulled apart after a few moments, pressing their foreheads together as they caught their breaths.
"I have to say *yln*." Damon murmured, a smirk twisting up onto his lips.
"I love not being your friend."

Snippet of Bloodsport (ch.3)
Tumblr media
Sharing a small scene in my new fic ‘Bloodsport’. Go check it out!
Tumblr media
Her head was pounding. The ache spread to her eyes and ears. The beaming sunlight made her shrink away. But none of the pain could hide her embarrassment and stupidity.
Even though she was drunk and high, she remembered everything from last night, including the conversation with Damon Salvatore. She doesn’t know what possessed her to grow an extra pair, but she had to feel some gratitude towards her drunkenness. Because without it, she wouldn’t be waiting on Damon’s porch steps since six am, with a six hour drive to Memphis ahead of her. If Bonnie couldn’t help her find the trigger to her magic, then her actual coven would.
Rue decided to give in around eight am and popped a few pills, allowing the throbbing pain to melt away. And by ten am, her stomach started growling louder and louder.
When it reached noon, the front door swung open.
His leather jacket hung heavily on his shoulders, and underneath a pearly white t-shirt clung to his body. Damon’s face twisted with annoyance as he groaned dramatically.
“I knew I smelled a little bit of crazy this morning.”
She rolled her eyes. “I told you I was serious.”
“And I told you that you were stupid. Looks like we’re both correct.”
When she followed him to his car, he sent her a sharp look that made her hesitate.
“You. Are. Not. Going.”
“Why not?!”
“Because I said so!”
Rue jutted her chin. “Well right now what you say doesn't mean shit to me.”
Appalled, he curled a brow and took a step forward, making her take a step back.
“Who the hell do you think you are?”
“Desperate,” she sighed. “C’mon, Damon. Haven’t you ever felt so desperate for something that you were willing to do anything to get it?”
His jaw flexed and his gaze softened. His eyes became distant, and for a moment, the air felt still.
“Fine,” he huffed. “Come, stay, do what you want. Just don’t get in the way.”
Rue stifled her smile as she hurried to the passenger seat. She threw her book bag into the backseat. His car was clean and vintage, and the blue paint sparkled in the sun.
The engine purred underneath them as they left the driveway. And if Rue wasn’t amazed enough, Damon pressed a small button and the roof pushed backwards, letting in the fresh air and sunlight.
A giggle escaped her as the wind ran through her hair. The corners of Damon’s mouth lifted as he shook his head.
Rue didn’t want to admit, and she was sure he didn’t want to, either, but she was excited. And it wasn’t just because of the road trip.

Lonely Harte (Damon x OC) CH.2
Tumblr media
SUTTON'S POV
I wasn’t even sure what time it was but I knew I would be pissed at myself tomorrow morning when I had to get up for class. Mira and Carleigh were well on their way to drunk when I had arrived and now they were fully sloshed. I myself was heavily buzzed on my second Long Island. It’s funny how fast you can get drunk on an empty stomach.
The three of us were playing pool with a few guys from school. I didn’t really know them but Carleigh did and told me they were on the basketball team. They were sorta cute but I didn't really have any interest in any of them. The only reason I hadn’t left was because I was feeling the liquor I had consumed and definitely couldn’t drive anywhere yet.
Mira and Carleigh were practically making out with the two guys they had been hitting it off with. The third guy who had been talking to me, Shawn was now standing awkwardly next to me with his beer. I may have been plenty tipsy but I had no interest in making out or going home with him. At first he had seemed nice but as the night went on he started to get a little handsy and I just got a weird vibe. I broke away from our little group excusing myself to the bathroom.
I let out a deep breath as soon as I was in the bathroom. I took in my appearance, yeah I was definitely a little drunk and a little disheveled at this point. I smoothed down my hair a bit and readjusted the black tank top I was wearing and attempted to fix my make up a bit. Much Better.
I savored my last moments of quiet before heading back out to whatever I was about to encounter with my roommates and the basketball boys. Upon coming out of the bathroom I slammed into a hard warm body. “Shit—I’m sorry.” I said looking up into the ice blue eyes of Damon Salvatore . I felt all the heat rise to my face and he just smirked as I took a step back.
“We meet again.” He said.
“That we do.” I laughed. If I was sober I would have been way more embarrassed but my liquid courage was still in effect at the moment so I was only a little embarrassed. I caught myself staring at him, he was probably one of the hottest guys I had ever seen. No scratch that he definitely was the hottest guy I’d ever seen. Damon’s expression seemed amused by me not so subtly checking him out.
“Sorry.” I mumbled “I may be a little buzzed.” I said half-heartedly.
I saw something flash in his eyes and for a moment I felt a twinge of fear deep inside me.
“Can I get you another drink?” He asked
“A water first.” I insisted and motioned for me to lead the way to the bar.
He got himself a glass of whiskey and I got myself a much needed water. I needed to sober up. Lord knows how I would embarrass in front of Damon if I kept drinking.
“Your friend left?” I asked him.
“Yeah he has school in the morning, can’t hang I guess.” He said giving a little smirk.
“Yeah, I should probably be home myself. How about you? No school?”
“Yeah I finished school quite a while ago.” He said taking a sip. I wondered if he was older than he looked. The man was just intriguing on all levels.
“So what do you do?” I was even more curious now, I wondered what kind of job he would hold. He could definitely be a model but if he was he wouldn’t be here in this town.
“A little bit of this and that.” He said noncommittally. I was about to give him a witty response when Shawn the basketball player appeared In front of us. Oh Great…
DAMONS POV
Sutton was a curious little thing and the way she had stared at me when I ran into her definitely caught my attention. I had of course heard she was heading here after she had left work. Was that why I had come here? I told myself no. That would be ridiculous.
When I noticed she was a little drunk my instincts almost took over, being so close to her, smelling her. She smelled delicious. I almost pushed her into that bathroom and had a little drink myself but something stopped me and it annoyed me.
Other thoughts flooded my mind after that, other fun things we could do in that bathroom but even though I didn’t know her well she didn’t seem like the type to have casual sex with a stranger. I decided to buy her a drink and see where the night led it couldn’t hurt anyways.
We were now standing in front of the bar, Sutton asking me casual enough questions that I answered evasively. Suddenly a guy walked up to the two of us. Was this her boyfriend? She could definitely do better. She looked surprised to see the guy and not overly excited. So maybe not her boyfriend. Good. Good? Why did I even care?
“Hey.” The guy said looking over at Sutton. “Getting another drink?”
“Yeah, I needed a water.” She smiled but it didn’t meet her eyes.
“Who’s your friend?” The guy asked sizing me up. Yeah buddy try it and see what happens. I was itching to let off a little steam I'd been having to play "well behaved" far too much recently.
Sutton glanced at me and chewed on her bottom lip for a second before moving right next to me and looping her small arm around me.
“This is Damon, my boyfriend.” Boyfriend? I almost snorted at her blatant lie. I had half a mind to blow her cover but I was too amused at this situation. I scanned the room and noticed two girls and two guys staring in our direction, I connected the dots assuming they were her friends who had paired off and she was left with this guy whom she seemed not interested in in the slightest.
What the hell? why not play along? I swung one arm around her shoulders the other holding my drink. “Yep, I’m the boyfriend.” Disappointment was all over the guy's face. I smirked feeling more triumphant than I probably should. Yeah you won’t be getting any from her tonight buddy.
“Oh uhh well nice to meet you, I’m Shawn.” He said looking awkwardly between Sutton and I.
"Thanks for keeping my girl company until I showed up." I said hoping he'd get the hint to buzz off and thankfully he did.
“Well I’m just gonna grab another beer. See ya around.” He said moving to an open spot at the other end of the bar. Sutton politely waved bye to him then quickly stepped out of our embrace. Oddly enough I kind of missed the contact.
“Sorry.” She said looking up at me through her thick lashes. She was short little thing. “Thank you for playing along…you’re a lifesaver.” She smiled gratefully at me.
“No problem, but you owe me.” I said giving her a wink. She laughed light heartedly and I had to admit I liked the sound of it. She bought me a drink thanking me again and got another water for herself and a plate of fries eating them happily as we sat at the bar.
“So no boyfriend?” I asked. I was a little surprised she didn’t have one. She seemed fun and she certainly was pretty enough.
“No, not really looking for one to be honest.” She said taking a bite of a fry. “How about you? Sorry if you do have a girlfriend.”
“Nah, I’ve sworn off woman at the moment.” She arched an eyebrow at me.
“Long story.” I said.
“Fair enough.” She nodded. We sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes as she finished her fries. “Well I should probably get home.” She said looking at the time on her phone. “I’ve got class in the early.”
“Are you good to drive?” I wasn’t entirely sure she had sobered up enough for that also I wasn't sure why I cared.
“I’ll just walk, our apartment is only a couple blocks away. Plus I know my car will be safe here overnight.” She said too casually. This girl had no idea what lurked in the shadows of this town.
“I can drive you.” I offered and again I didn't know why.
“You’ve been drinking far more than me.” She pointed out laughing. She also had no clue how much liquor I had to consume to actually get drunk. I wasn’t anywhere close to drunk but I played along.
“Fair point. How about I walk you then?” She chewed on her bottom lip again something she seemed to do when she was thinking something over.
“Okay.” She finally said. “I’m just gonna say goodbye to my roommates and make sure they’re okay.”
I nodded and watched her walk over to the two inebriated girls. They seemed to have sobered up a little from earlier though and were sipping on water themselves. The three of them talked briefly and I saw the girl's eyes all glance at me for a moment. College girls. I smirked to myself.
About a minute later Sutton was back at my side. I finished the last of my drink and we headed out the door. The night was cool for late August but it felt nice.
We fell into silence as we walked side by side down the streets of mystic falls. I could see her occasionally glance over at me and I wondered what she was thinking. The further we got from the Grill the more the thought popped into my head to take a little drink from this girl. A little eat & erase wouldn’t be a big deal and no one would know. But for the second time tonight I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
“So are you from here?” She asked breaking the silence.
“Yep, born and raised but I have done some traveling over the years. How about you?”
“I’m from town about an hour away. It's actually smaller than this. That’s where my grandma lives. I haven’t traveled much, honestly I’ve never been out of Virginia. I like it here though, this town I mean. It’s nice.” She smiled looking around the dark streets.
“So other than your grandma any other family around?” I didn’t know why I was even asking her these questions. Was it to fill the silence or because I genuinely wanted to know?
“Nope, it’s just her and I actually.” I felt for the girl, she didn’t have much family and that was something I could relate to. “How about you?”
“It’s just my younger brother and I.” I said honestly.
She nodded understanding in her eyes. We were two people who had lost the majority of our families for whatever reasons.
“Well this is me.” She said as we arrived to one of the few old apartment buildings in town. “Thank for you walking me home and for playing along earlier.” She smiled.
“Thanks for the entertaining evening. Goodnight Sutton.”
“Goodnight Damon.” She said and paused before she turned and walked up her steps and unlocked the door. I slowly walked away but made sure she was securely inside before I disappeared back to my car.
