So. Side order's gameplay is fantastic to me, I've completed it with all 12 palettes now. I love splatoon and I love roguelikes so this was sort of a match made in heaven for me.

Creating the OP builds, the final boss, the general colours and music and vibe of the game is amazing! Everything to do with Pearl and Marina are *amazing* and they're so hella gay it's adorable :D And I love that they're not even hiding the queer representation now. Marina having a sprawled out Pearl as her desktop background is so cute, even seeing an elevator scene where they gush about eachother, and another one where Marina worries that Acht is hitting on Pearl.

And... cannon They/Them Acht! I remember all the people on Reddit being like "it's just the marketing team mistranslating their pronouns in a tweet!" NOPE, it's in game too!

Hell yeah :D Smollusk is adorable and I love him, and maybe we finally have a splatoon villain tumblr won't turn into a tumblr sexyman since he's a literal infant xD

And Pearl Drone is so hecking cute, I love her so much!! If you spin around in the lobby she spins too, and if you stay still she falls asleep :D

I did my first run with Brella cause it's my fav and it has my beloved inkstorm kit from S2! It took me three tries before I beat the tower for the first time, but then every run afterwards with different weapons I've always cleared it (I was got bounced off the tower for that first death and the second I was caught offguard by how fast the reefslider spam is)! Brella was definitely my favourite run, but I also really enjoyed the roller and brush runs. My roughest run was with the Splatling. I had dreaded doing charger after that, but charger turned into my fastest run!

I could see myself unwinding in this mode hundreds more times. I am saying this all to demonstrate that I really love this DLC, it might be my favourite of all the single player modes so far, either that or S2 hero mode. So my following criticisms are out of love for it because it's close to perfect. So the big one is... "the dlc is too short!" I hear that a lot on both tumblr and reddit and someone inevitably chimes in with "You don't play a lot of roguelikes, do you?" I mean... do YOU? I've done over 100 runs in Wizard of Legend, and thousands of hours on Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Etrian Mystery Dungeon. Yes it's made to be run multiple times, but when a run is only 20-30 minutes it's still only about 6 hours of content if you do all the palettes. And these could be fixed with the assets they already have! Like imagine an Endless mode where the difficulty (enemy speed and hp values and number of spawns) kept ramping up higher and higher each floor, with the leader board being kept track of on the app. Or a daily tower run to save a random cephalopod from being grayscaled - the daily inkling/octoling's palette giving you a random weapon/sub/special for that day that followed the rules of 8's Octoshot (more hacks = less chip slots). Or like a super hard difficulty mode - imagine a mode where every floor had a danger modifier, and maybe a Parallel Cannon spawns into the stage to try to hunt you down (maybe it's even invincible so you have to run away from it while doing the stage objective?) I know the Octoshot is kind of the "hard mode" (it's still not too bad though since it's basically just like starting from the beginning without hacks), but it's not fun being limited to just the one weapon type. Especially for it for people who find the regular shooters boring. I don't feel like this is an unreasonable request either, Wizard of Legend - a roguelike made by *two* people - for instance has a few options for post game challenge runs (a randomized mode, a mode where the enemies start from the highest difficulty from floor 1, an extra long run that touches on all the bosses, a BOSS RUSH mode, Curses - basically one thing gets massively buffed while a second thing gets massively debuffed). The Mystery Dungeon games tend to have unlockable MASSIVE dungeons that start you off from having nothing. (like imagine a 99 floor floor tower where you started with no hacks, and a basic shooter with no sub/special and you had to earn new weapons/subs/specials/hacks as you go). Could do the Curse style idea with extra special Marina hacks. "Hey 8, I just figured out a hack that turns everyone's Max HP to 1 - both yours and your opponents!" "This hack will make you much faster but the floors will always be dark!" Or those Bonus challenges, imagine if there was an option to do conditional runs with them. Like "Beat the Tower without using your special, unlock a specific splat tag banner" Again, I am only criticizing because I love it. It's just also the easiest and shortest of all the single player campaigns we've gotten I feel, and if they were going to lean into the roguelike genre, I wish they looked into how other roguelikes reuse assets to lengthen the gameplay and provide extra challenges to keep players interested for a long time.

AND I AM STILL MAD YOU CAN'T PLAY AS A SQUID AND THEY REMOVED THE PLAYABLE SQUIDBEATZ (half joking. Not really upset, but I do find it odd now that there's more campaigns you can play as an octoling than an inking on the switch now despite inklings being the mascots...... rotm/oe/so vs just s2hero/rotm. And I don't see why we can't just have minigames back, they remove more minigames each entry and paying to listen to music now is frustrating...) Haha... But yes, overall, I loved it. It's a 9/10 from me. Adding squidbeatz and some post game longevity / challenge modes would have made it a 10/10. I can't wait to play more, I can't wait to visit Inkopolis Square again next splatfest :')

Now, onto random observations!

The lobby has jump ramps on the back corner pillars. I don't know why!

You can turn Color Lock on in the main game and it *does* affect Side Order. It gives you permanently Blue+yellow or Blue+green ink, even in the hub area.

So with this boss, it uses the hairstyle from your S2 hero mode data to get their appearance... But I swear mine is using the feminine voice here and when being splat, despite that hairstyle being locked to masculine inkling voices in Splatoon 2? I do use it with the feminine voice in Splatoon 3. Or maybe the voices are just mixed into one here, I can't quite tell? Well it made enby me happy to see. I do kinda wish we got a challenging superboss fight with 4, these felt a bit weak.. but it seems to imply they aren't specifically 4 but Order made them based on their data... So...where is the real 4?!!! Did she never show up to work? Speaking of that boss....

Around the room are these white pipe like structures...

That will be instantly recognizable to anyone who dabbles in japanese model kits - they're sprue trees, like the kind used in Gunpla.

The robotic boss has robot model kit building pieces in the background :D

I still don't quite get the intro scene where everything goes digital on the train.... So it's implying either A) your character got Grayscaled.... But your character is fine when you go back to town... you don't even see any characters standing around suffering it's effects, they could have had some npcs spacing out or acting weird ala Persona 3... or B) you're getting pulled into the memverse too, but there's no sign of your S3 character *at all*... (though this would have been a good way to let us play as an inkling too nintendo >:l *angry woomy noises*)

Honestly I felt kinda like Acht's inclusion was sort of superfluous at first... mostly their role felt like "Pearl & Marina: *does something gay* Acht: wow these two sure are hella gay right 8? i feel like we're third wheels". I kept waiting for some kind of...reveal? Their memories are pretty much fully restored instantly rather than rolled out gradually like I was expecting...I was thinking maybe they'd, like, link them to Paul, or follow up on the recognizing Pearl somehow or being linked to the engineers that created Order or...SOMETHING, but it never came. Other than maybe dropping a hint about the person who instructed them and Marina when they were in school? Their role was really just "I'll hold the elevator and jump in for a song"... But maybe that's okay, eight and Acht are trauma victims and this was meant to be a place to heal them. Maybe it's okay that we take it slow getting to know them.

Okay that's all that's brainworming away at me for now, I'm sure I'll think of more later. Again, I really love it, definitely a 9/10 for me. I hope yall enjoyed it too :)

doing prompts of any day that has already past and combining as i please... tried doing it day by day but i just can't. if you can't do a daily -tober challenge, don't feel bad; i don't even have a real job and i can't keep up with this shit. plus, i feel like doing whatever the hell i want is more in the vein of being cringe, anyway.

i'm really glad there is a resurgence in 00's internet culture (though typing it out, i realize a lot of these prompts are more 2010's, though the aesthetic of the post is more 00s). it makes sense for a lot of reasons. but i think it's also worth recognizing, as someone who grew up in it, this was not some golden past, either. there is no golden past. the internet in the 00's was just as, if not more, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, generally dangerous, and overall shit as it is today. so i encourage people to create a better web and a better world!

we are at the precipice. this is the closest it will ever be. there is less than an hour in the vote and it has been a consistent 50/50 for the past however-long. when i began this post, quackity was leading joe by about 40 votes.

please. please. i am literally on my knees, begging. vote for joe hills. he is the epitome of what a tumblr sexyman in the cryptid category is supposed to be. quackity dabbles in every category of tumblr sexyman, but joe hills is fully submerged in one and does it right.his cryptid energy knows no bounds. there are no headcanons of him just being normal in the grand scheme of the universe, and if there are, it's because everyone else isn't normal and he's, like, a sentient player in a minecraft character's body.

he crafts poetry for almost every single one of his episodes and weaves the hum of the universe into every line. he takes hermitcraft apart thread by thread and crochets it into something new, something beautiful. he made a giant pinball machine with the deep field image made on the side using minecraft blocks. he wrote a poem about how the thought cub's base from season 8 was a gaping maw that lacked an upper jaw, which was so tma-coded it was unreal, among other poems about cub's freakshow of a base (i don't even care if you don't vote for him, read those damn poems). he has alter egos to rival the bursonas, one of which, beetlejhost, is very explicitly a tumblr sexyman. i mean, look at this guy (and etho)! not to mention just joe hills in general! look at this fanart they've seximanified a guy who's minecraft skin is literally Just Steve with a different shirt and hair!

he has cyptid energy up the wazoo! for the tumblr sexyman poll, people have started headcanoning the tumblr checkmarks (you know, the ones he didn't have until a few days ago; the things that exist only in the meta-verse of tumblr and no other canon anywhere else) as either eyes or a halo. this is not a one-time thing. they turned him into a biblically accurate nightmare with his TUMBLR CHECKMARKS for a TUMBLR SEXYMAN POLL.

quackity has no such cryptid energy. the closest thing he gets is being traumatised and also that one time that he showed up riding skeleton horses in a shoddy assassin's creed cosplay. or that time he appeared in fundy's dream, which, by the way, was a RECONSTRUCTION OF Q IN FUNDY'S MIND. Omg I have Etho history and lore to share!!!! He's one of my favorite mcyts!!!

Ok so starting off, he's apart of a formally popular minecraft server, Mindcraft (Season 1 and season 2) and he's currently apart of Hermitcraft, he is also apart of other servers! He also has a lets play that has been going on since 2010, when the Minecraft Beta first came out! Currently, his lp has 575 episodes as of January of this year!

He plays quite a bit of modded minecraft as well, currently its on episode 10 of season 2.

Along with playing on Mindcrack, he participated in UHC where he supposedly got a reputation for being an incredibly good pvp player. Everyone was scared of him during 3rd life/last life/double life, its bc he plans ahead to take out other players instead of being reckless.

Basically, 3rd life/last life/double life is where you have 3 lifes and on the last life you have an obligation to kill other players. Once they loose all their lives they are out of the game. (BEST team my beloveds <3). Double life is pretty much the same thing except players are put into an enclosed border with on enchanting table given "soulmates" and players share a health bar with their randomized soulmate. Etho's was SmallishBeans

He's been apart of Hermitcraft since season 3. In season 7, he created a shop called Shade-E-E's where he would move the shop once the inventory was emptied or GTWS found it. He did this so GTWS couldn't tax him.

In season 8, he joined the no wings club and was a member for 1000 days. I think in this season as well, he made the horse course for the other Hermits and he made a face for the base he shared with Iskall.

He played a bit of terraria in 2013 but I haven't really watched his terraria series.

Ok some fun facts:

I remember being super obsessed with him when i was younger. I figured that i might as well give my take on his “human” form. I still think that even as a humanoid he’s still just a weird looking dude. Tho in this he looks like a simpson lol.

i think the reason the term “tumblr sexymen” annoys me so much (besides the overuse and non-definition) is that people online will act like wanting to fuck a skeleton or a clock or even like just an average looking dude is the most depraved thing in the world and will make posts bemoaning that a new fictional male character will be “the next tumblr sexyman” because they have a small fanbase that will fizzle out in a week, meaning cishet men will see a vaguely feminine looking pokemon or a female npc that sells you milk and draw 17673467 different separate pornographic images and make them trend on twitter for 8 weeks and almost noone will complain about them being “tumblr sexywomen” or “the new onceler” or whatever because people just expect female characters to have  massive amounts of porn drawn of them, but when people start thirsting over weird male characters (or any male characters because they’re no limits for what counts as a tumblr sexyman these days) then we suddenly have a problem.

(Considering the fact that I'm pretty sure a lot of my ocs are accidental tumblr sexymen, making a legitimate one wasn't hard) Name: Bartholomew Weatherby Species: Wolf Personality: Greedy, flirtatious, deadpan snarker, dominating, intelligent, egotistical, enjoyer of the fancy life, clean and proper, hard to anger, bloodthirsty, hiding a deeper darkness Summary: Bartholomew didn’t have the greatest childhood. Raised in an upper-crust family, he was heavily abused by his parents for his perceived inadequacies at being a proper young man, mostly due to his bisexuality. He ran away as a teenager and fell into squalor, until he got into the hitman business. He was scarily good at it to the point that he made his own fortune just off of blood money and is now living as a dignitary. When he gets a job, he usually goes about it the same way every time. His target, typically another upper-class person, will be invited over for dinner. Bartholemew will lay on the charm thick, flirting and bantering with his target like they’re old friends. Sometimes he will even take them to his room for a night together alone. He will keep at this until he finds the perfect opportunity to strike. Most times, he does it subtly, poisoning his target’s wine and dinner until they drop dead. Other times, he gets a craving for something more and uses his trusty knife to finish the job. Or if he’s really drunk or in a bad mood or requested to do so by more unsavory clients, he will tear his targets to shreds with his own claws and fangs. He did this exact thing to his parents, tearing them apart limb from limb while showing them the scars from their lashes that remained on his back. The kids and trolls got a lot more votes than the miscellaneous characters. That makes sense. We spend more time with all the kids and a lot of the trolls compared to the miscellaneous ones so I guess more people searched up their name in the Tumblr tags

That being said a sample size of only a few hundred is WAY too small. Especially for a fandom as big as Homestuck. I'll go off of this in the next poll ofc but to get a good idea of who the fandom ACTUALLY likes I need like at least a few thousand votes. Maybe more idk how big the Homestuck fandom is now. I know @abraxas-calibrator is planning to make a comprehensive poll with every single character in HS someday and they a) have more followers than me probably so more people will see the poll, b) is more of a "Homestuck blog" than me so more people will know what they're talking about, and c) will probably organize this poll better than I did so. Check out their poll when they do it I guess.

The alpha kids got a LOT of votes. From the tags it seems people have been trying to get their followers to vote for Jane and Jake who were less popular. Didn't work, as you can tell. I love Jane but I don't think her reputation in the fandom ever recovered after HS2 unfortunately. Also I guess ppl just didn't pay attention to her before HS2 either.

The midbloods had a lot of people voting and a relatively close race between Nepeta and Terezi. In the tags of the poll I said Terezi was my favorite but I didn't expect her to win. I expected Vriska to win. Vriska made waves a few days ago bc ppl were APPALLED that she was having such a tough race against Katya Goncharov. Can't believe she's one of THE Tumblr Sexywomen but she came in last in a poll against characters from her own comic. I mean I voted for Katya in that poll bc Vriska sucks (affectionate) but still. She deserved to win that one and I'm surprised she didn't win this one.

That being said for both the midblood and the highblood polls I get the feeling that people assumed that more Tumblr Sexyman characters like Vriska and Gamzee would get all the votes so they voted for the least controversial characters to compensate? Like I have no doubt in my mind that people ACTUALLY like Aradia and liked her enough to beat out Karkat. But. Do people actually like Nepeta and Feferi more. Actually maybe they do. Maybe I'm just cynical. I like characters that are a little problematic bc they're more interesting that way. I guess a lot of people don't see it that way and like the characters that they would genuinely want to be friends with. That's valid tbh.

Some of these brackets weren't well done tbh. The midblood bracket had all popular characters and there were several miscellaneous brackets with characters that aren't most people's favorites. But because I put them together in one poll it forced people to choose their favorite out of the selection. The winners of different polls will be going into the next round but it doesn't really reflect the actual popularity in the fandom. Maybe doing them in batches of 2 would have been better than 4. Ah well. I'll do that for the Tumblr Sexywoman poll I'll eventually put on. I don't have the energy to do all that for this one. Same with the Danganronpa one I want to do later they're still going into batches of 4.

Roxy is literally the only character who won the majority vote. And that's only by 1%. The other polls all have votes split more evenly 3- or 4- ways between the characters. Again, I wonder if any characters would have come out on top if I did a 1v1 poll for them?

Yall really like girls. 5/9 winners of the polls are girls, and 4/5 of the kids/trolls polls had girls win. And for a bunch of the polls where a girl didn't win a girl was the runner-up if there was one in the group. In conclusion wamen I guess.

I have homework so round 2 of polls will be up tomorrow. There are 9 winners in round 1 so for round 2 I'll put them in batches of 3. And the final round will also be in batches of 3. I tried to make 8 batches last time bc it was the Vriska number but also bc then I could do 1v1s but I thought of more characters in the last second. Ah well, I'll refine my methodology for other polls. Peace.
