A lil additional poll after the news

its funny because I wouldn't say I dislike the Inners' like normal life stuff but sometimes I'm like "christ I don't wanna watch them have to deal with going to school! Usagi just found out she's Princess Serenity! let her take a day off at least!" and I don't care as much about their like non-senshi lives

but with the Outers, every second where they're just living domestic lives and dressed normally and having to interact with the normal world, I'm holding in my hands firmly like its the most precious thing in the world. like straight up I'm be like "yes girls, file your taxes! I'll watch hours of this!" I wanna see them have to schedule appointments. I wanna see them take Hotaru shopping for shoes. I don't care I want them to just be together and domestic and not worried about the fate of the universe for a SECOND.

There are a lot of recent sci fi series that are set in a "capitalistic hellscape that you can't escape even with a spaceship" setting. We Fix Space Junk, Murderbot, Outer Worlds, Invisible Kingdom, We Only Find Them When They're Dead to name a few across mediums.

The commonalities between these different stories- the palpable, resonate despair that permeates each of them- hurts. It's our current world with a different color paint slapped on top. It's impossible to read even a single page of these stories without the creators' current pains shining through, without seeing your own reflected there

But it's the differences between these different stories set in the same setting that's currently snagging my brain. Particularly in where they find their joy and hope: the little daily joys and delights and laughs and personal victories in We Fix Space Junk; the places and people of safety in Murderbot; the power fantasy of Outer Worlds; transcendence and escape in WOFTWTD.

In a storytelling sense, it's these different sources of hope that give each series its own unique feel and vibe and heart. In a personal, emotional sense though, There's just. Something about all of these different methods of finding hope in the face of the same problems that does something to me. Gives me a confusing soup of emotions that I don't know how to process

Sat down and drew all of my game protagonists from games I've played where you make your own protagonist (ie the protag doesn't have an established backstory/story and often has some form of customization). Putting the art below a cut though because there's 21 of them total.

Also!!! Some of them have their nude bases because they were ones that were more detailed and I was proud of, but they're basically almost all inhuman characters so there's no real nudity whatsoever.
