Today was a good day. #photodump I have a young man now. #BlackBoyJoy He’s making his own decisions. Developing his style. Handling himself responsibly, hopefully, with care and tenderness, taking time to assess and respond, instead of reacting.. He thinks he’s going to like his new school. I like how most of the teaching staff are #BlackEducators , cause that shit matters for our children. @timeoutmarketnewyork Blows our minds with #VeganFoodForNonVegans & #SweetPotTaterTots from two of the delightful variety of cuisine available. We eat ice cream under the Brooklyn sun, exploring the newly built park close by. On our impromptu post-lunch excursion, we cross paths with @staceyannchin (glowing in the afternoon sun)... ❤️ Our walk down memory’s road finds me pouring in to him about my youth in Brooklyn. I tell him about how at 18, alone on the road through the south, my bootleg #DefPoetryJam vhs tapes kept me sane and saved my life. He tells me likes her hair and asks if I can show him the videos sometime; and maybe we if we can go to Jamaica for his next birthday…. Laughing at how he thinks he so slick with that fast talk… the emerging man glimmers behind his smile for a moment. He board the B25 and I take the window seat. I tell him yes and maybe, respectively. Lying my head on his shoulder, now half an inch higher than mine, for a brief cat nap. The remainder of our bus ride home is spent in respectful silence as a squabble between some older ladies at the front of the bus, approaches fighting words. The bus driver waits. And I quiet him before he can comment. Crack fucked blacks and gave birth to a curse

The moon's bright the sky's misty

Know my future cause I know my history

My life predicted by a gypsy

Murder she wrote at the end of the story the streets get me

That's what I live quickly and always keep a pistol with me

Won't stop fighting until I'm free

Raised in the city of fallen angels where niggas ain't scared to bleed

If money is the root to all evil then greed's the seed

This ain't living, we taking because ain't nobody giving

America's a rich man's vision but a poor man's prison

So don't expect these politicians to give us a pot to piss in

Preacher man stop preaching because niggas ain't fixin to listen

Folks done lost hope and stopped trying

Life's a bitch from the start that's why you come out your mama crying

The world's dying, and the people have gone mad

I take a shit on the White House and wipe my ass with the flag

When will the evil end?

Too many browns and blacks in the system, victims of legal sins

In court praying for mercy when condemned by evil men

Ain't no love in the heart of the city

If there's a God where is he?

My homies dying over 100s and 50s

I sit back, sip yak and analyze the situation

Ain't a person alive that today knowing the monster we're facing

They crucified Jesus Christ, sold Marcus garvey for Rice

Shot Malcom-X in the chest, gave Nelson Mandella life

pac died at 25, Biggie died a year younger

all my life been broke i'm motivated by my hunger

Told my mama bury me with a 357, just in case God's trippin and I don't get into heaven

If he send me to Hell, then oh well, cause I just did 19 years in the ghetto as a black male

And it can't get much harder than that, I had a lot of pain in my heart, that's why I started to rap

See them other brothas will make you dance but jusice and make you think

You saving up for a Bentley I'm saving up for a tank

That's just the mindset of a soldier

Shit is crazy huh, but this is what I see

We are no longer slaves, but we sho ain't free

So until I don't have to steal and kill from my own folks

tatood across my soul are the words I just spoke

Who the fuck ya'll gone call when I break all the laws on behalf of every innocent criminal

This morning I was looking at this photo and 3 women came to my mind: @sotamblue, @judyholiday @jaha0903 ---- These are three women that have shaped my world. ---- I became friends with some of my best friends on the planet because of Tamara Shanice Blue. I was a fan of her #ThickChicks poem on #DefPoetryJam and I found her on Myspace and we became fast "Myspace Friends" because of our Jesus Love, our Middle names both sounding like Peace, and well... because we were #blackgirlmagic before it was a hashtag. ---- Once I become friends with Tamara Blue I was introduced to a world of free girls and free women that I never knew existed. Eboni Bragg being one of them. Eboni is the free girlfriend that tv shows WISH they could properly cite. She is funny and beautiful and creative and I think she is the first girl I know to actually do whatever she wanted to do - period! ---- A few years later, Jaha Zainabu LITERALLY saved my life. I was 27 seconds from being a stranger and she let me come live with her for about 7 months because as a young, broke, 20ish something that was losing everything short of my mind but including my man (😂) she refused to let me be homeless in Atlanta, Georgia and invited me into her home. Her walls were murals and her ingenuity and magic was 15 years ahead of where we currently are now. I literally would not be who I am today if it were not for Jaha Zainabu. Period. ---- Often when we talk about the women who have shaped our world we have to reach 100's of years into ancestry or even half a lifetime ago into our elders but we rarely get the chance to credit our contemporaries and our peers for the ways they helped to give us language for the kind of free women we want to be. Today, I honor TamaraBlue, Eboni Bragg and Jaha Zainabu for being the kind of free women I didn't know was possible to be.
