HYMN
To Eris, the fearful Battle-queen, beheld of none, but cloaked in clouds blood-raining: on she stalked swelling the mighty roar of battle. From small to huge that Fury's stature grew; her arms of adamant were blood-besprent, the deadly lance she brandished reached the sky. Earth quaked beneath her feet: dread blasts of fire flamed from her mouth: her voice pealed thunder-like kindling strong men. Swift closed the fronts of fight drawn by a dread Power to the mighty work.
Sister and companion of murderous Ares, she who is only a little thing at the first, but thereafter grows until she strides on the earth with her head striking heaven. She who then hurled down bitterness equally between both sides as she walks through the onslaught making men's pain heavier. You, who are the last of the Gods to close an argument; hear my prayer today and pass your judgement kindly upon me. Be a good friend to mortals, and a friend to me.

HOMERIC HYMN
Homeric Hymn 11 to Athena (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C7th to 4th B.C.) : "Of Pallas Athena, guardian of the city, I begin to sing. Dread is she, and with Ares she loves the deeds of war, the sack of cities and the shouting and the battle. It is she who saves the people as they go to war and come back. Hail, goddess, and give us good fortune and happiness!"
Homeric Hymn 39 to Athena : "I begin to sing of Pallas Athena, the glorious goddess, bright-eyed, inventive, unbending of heart, pure virgin, saviour of cities, courageous, Tritogeneia. From his awful head wise Zeus himself bare her arrayed in warlike arms of flashing gold, and awe seized all the gods as they gazed. But Athena sprang quickly from the immortal head and stood before Zeus who holds the aegis, shaking a sharp spear: great Olympos began to reel horribly at the might of the grey-eyed goddess, and earth round about cried fearfully, and the sea was moved and tossed with dark waves, while foam burst forth suddenly: the bright Son of Hyperion [Helios the Sun] stopped his swift-footed horses a long while, until the maiden Pallas Athena had stripped the heavenly armour from her immortal shoulders. And wise Zeus was glad. Hail to you, daughter of Zeus who holds the aigis!"

Deity 101 :Dionysus
Basic info
Dionysus is the god of vegetation , pleasure , festivity , madness , ecstasy , wild frenzy , theatre fruit homosexuality , queerness , wine (obviously ) and liberation .
He’s the son of Zeus and the princess semele of Thebes , He is usually depicted as either an older bearded man or an effeminate youth ,
Epithets : Bakkhos - of bacchic frenzy
Staphylites - of the grape
Eleuthereus - of liberation
TAROT : the hanged man the fool and the hierophant
*this is based off of my interactions and my worship of him as a devotee of him everyone’s practice and worship and relationship with him will be different *
Whilst physical offerings such as libations and incense are super important (if you aren’t able to give physical offerings have an altar or burn incense it’s ok they’ll understand ) non physical offerings and devotional acts are super important and appreciated by Dionysus !!!!
A great place to start working with / worshipping Dionysus and well any god is research , learning about the god is a devotional act in itself ! The next step I’d say is communication , it’s so overlooked i feel , it doesn’t have to always be super formal or proper , you can pray you can use divination or you can journal or just talk to him , tell him about your day etc . Dionysus is a god of both sides , intense madness and pleasure but also liberation and self exploration . He’s the high of life and the low of life , don’t be afraid to only show him the good , he’s the good the bad and the in between . He especially loves spending time with you when your doing things like art or anything that brings you joy ! You can seriously just talk to and say hey I'd love to spend some time with you and just do your activity and talk to him !!!!
Also this is for anyone who feels like they Or something they do is cringy , Dionysus does not care , he’s even love it , furries? People who can’t dance or sing but still do ? He loves that . He’s the god of theatre they were all dramatic and over the top. Live life , he loves it .
I’m going to only add a small list of things in this portion as screeching-owl here on Tumblr already made posts about info on most gods and I don't want to 'copy' thier work per say , I do believe they’re on hiatus but their stuff is great for reference and condensed learning about the gods
Offering’s etc
Alcohol (especially wine and spirits eg vodka etc ) grape juice or juice or honey and water are great substitutes for alcohol ! , olive oil and breads and fruit ! All kinds especially grapes ! And grape leaves !
Purple and red crystals like lepidolite amethyst grape agate and garnet are great ! Honestly anything to do with theatre or really anything you think he’d like he probably will !
Anything to do with animals he’s associated with and another thing he loves is art , especially art of him and yourself I’ve noticed . It’s such a fun way to bond with him .
LET ME KNOW WHAT ELSE YALL WANT ME TO ADD TO THESE !!!!
Apollo is next on the list !
Most info gained from my own working with him , theoi.com , brief reference from @screeching-0wl .

What is a “Universal Offering/Devotional Act?”
Feel free to request or suggest deities! This list will be done in order but you can ask for me to complete one that’s further down the list.
This list is subject to change. There are probably repeat deities (deities who go by multiple names, parts of groups like the Horae or Charities who are mostly grouped together, etc.) on this list. Some deities are not on here. Some names are spelt wrong or different.

3 beginner tips for deity work in heathenry*
Not all deity work is "advanced" paganism/heathenry/etc. It certainly can be an advanced ritual, especially as you get familiar with a deity's presence and better understand how they'd like to be honored. Still, there is nothing wrong with just sitting in a quiet space and saying "Hi. I was drawn to you because of [blank]. It would be an honor to know more about you. I humbly invite you to this space and to share with me how I can best worship you."
Deity work does take practice, but when you practice is up to you. You can worship daily for an hour, every few days for half an hour, throughout the day for a few minutes at a time, and you can take breaks when needed. While practicing regularly has excellent effects, practicing irregularly won't bring wrath, ire, or punishment.
The myths are just a jumping-off point. They were stories written by people who lived hundreds of years ago, so it's essential that we forge our own understanding of these figures. It's also important to remember that everyone's relationship with the divine will be unique, and some things you discover on your path will not match the myths. For example, I worship Tyr and Fenrir as a divine pair, Hel as a goddess of life, Ran as a mother goddess, etc.
* It should go without saying, but just in case, I am not an authority on this, as I don't think anyone can be, but these are things I've found true along my own path. I see so many folks new to heathenry tie themselves in knots, worrying about "doing deity work right," so I wanted to throw my two cents in. I hope this is helpful to folks!

witchcraft / deity work on a budget
if you, like me, don't have a lot of money but still want to practise witch craft / give offerings to your deities, here's some general tips on how you can do all that on a budget:
you don't need to burn a whole stick of incense or a whole spell candle at once. in fact, if you light a candle or incense with a specific intent and then burn it over the course of a couple of days, it might actually be more effective. unless you're using it to banish / get rid of something, then it might be better to burn it all in one go.
on that note, you don't need fancy spell candles, a tea light with a sigil carved into it can be enough
if you want to give food offerings but can't afford to waste / not eat food, you can just invite your deity to sit with you as you eat or you can put certain ingredients associated with your deity into your food, like for example wine for dionysus. or you can give them a small crumb of your food or a small sip of your drink to symbolise a whole meal. a lot of deities will also accept simple things like water or olive oil as offerings.
also: offerings don't need to be physical, you can perform certain actions in your deities name, just look up devotional acts for your deity, there's tons of useful stuff out there.
doing creative things like writing your own prayers or making devotional art is actually probably better than most physical offerings, since you put a lot of effort and time into it and its something personal to you. it doesn't even need to be good, you just need to put love and effort into it. this is especially good for deities who rule over the arts.
if you can't buy a whole tarot deck, theres lots of free online versions you can use, or you can use a simple deck of playing cards as a substitute.
anything you find outside can be magical, you don't need to buy any spell ingredients.
feel free to add onto this if you have more tips!!!

fukkit it is 5am for me and I'm just gonna be silly. "Fierce Deity" and "Cake"
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAJOR HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
5am! Go back to bed?!
Thank you very much! :D
Fierce deity and Cake!
Having a deity in your head had it's advantages if you asked Time. One, you were never alone. there was always someone to look after you. Two, his friend has unmatched strength, he could protect his people if for some reason he couldn't.
And three.
Gods, dont have allergies.
You can't eat this it's got dairy in it. The voice in his head sounded. there he was. Fierce.
"I run a dairy farm. Fierce." He said. Looking down at the slice of cake in front of him. The rest of the team would be along. Having opted to stay behind to care for their stuff as they went into town for supplies. "If you are so worried why dont you eat it?"
Because it's your body I cohabitate. If you go down I do too. I can't protect my charges or your brothers as you call them if I am stuck in bed because someone thought it would be a good idea to eat something they were allergic to.
"It's not an allergy it's an intolerance."
And you are behaving like a child for a slice of cake.
"Wild made it for Sky and I am the only one who hasn't eaten it. It would upset him."
Why do I bother?
"Because you care."
I do. Too much sometimes.
When he inevitably found himself sick later, all he could hear was the told you so's of the deity in his head.

HI, I'm a new witch and I've been seeing a lot of witches on tumblr worshiping deities and gods/goddesses from mythology which I didn't know was included among practicing witches. I knew there are deities in witchcraft like the triple moon goddess, but is it required to do research on deities? What are the most important things to research and know about to practice witchcraft and which are optional? Thank you for leaving an open space to ask questions!
hi there!
i do not personally work with any deities, but i will answer your first question to the best of my ability.
deity work is indeed popular among witches, and people can follow one or more pantheons (e.g. greek, roman, norse). this is not a requirement by any means.
if you are interested in working with a deity, i highly recommend doing research (what they represent, their stories and lore, etc.) before diving into anything.
as for your second question, the only thing i can think of to recommend researching before anything is protection magic. it is good to know how to defend yourself.
witches have varying paths of practice, so others may have other recommendations for beginner witches.
if anyone from the dash would like to add to this, feel free!

Reaching Out To A New Deity
I've recently decided to reach out to Dionysus, who I've not worked with before, and it inspired me to write this post.
Reaching out to a new deity can be a little scary. Especially if you've never worked with a deity before. Many people get stuck on what the best way to reach out is, what the best offering is, whether they've done enough research or not, and even whether or not the deity will want to work with them.
So, here is a little bit of a guide on reaching out to a deity. I would like to specify here that this is the way I personally do it, and it is definitely not the only way. This post was also written in the moment, so it might be formatted differently than my planned and edited posts.
What do I do first?
The first thing you should do, before even reaching out to a deity, is research. Now, I don't mean go overboard, there's always time for learning more. But before reaching out, you should have a good idea of who the deity in question is.
For me, this is usually creating a sort of master page on them in a notebook. I write down their most popular myths, what they're the deity of, their epithets or titles, associations, offerings, and devotional acts. This usually starts out with pretty short lists, and as I start working with them I add more on.
So what next?
Next is planning. By now, you should have a decent idea of who the deity is, and can start planning how you'll reach out. What offerings will you give? What will you say? Will there be a candle?
I like to make first contacts formal. This typically means lighting a candle, giving a pretty elaborate offering, some type of music or ambient sound that's associated with them, I cleanse myself and the space and myself beforehand. I am only this formal for the initial introduction unless I know the deity in question prefers me to be more formal with them.
The process I use:
First, cleanse the space you're in, as well as yourself. Ground yourself, and take some deep breaths.
Light the candle, and invite the deity in. Set out your offerings, and let them know that it's for them.
Introduce yourself. Tell them your name, some things about you, why you want to work with them or why you reached out. Whatever feels right.
Sit like this for a while. Acknowledge the things you feel, hear, and smell. When you're ready to end the interaction, thank them and put the candle out.
How do you know if they want to work with you?
This depends on you, and also the approach you're taking.
The Approach
If you just want to work with them, towards a goal of some sort, you might ask them if they'd like to work with you after your introduction. In this case you would also state what you wish to work on or towards with them.
If you want to honor them, but not work with them, then asking at all isn't necessary. You're just honoring them, not asking for things from them.
There's also the approach I take. Most of the time, when I reach out to a deity, it's with the intention of working with them after I've built a bond with them through honoring them. So, I don't ask at all. The only exception to this has been Lucifer, who is the only deity I've reached out with that I work with but don't honor outside of that. Yet, anyway.
Knowing
There are many ways to understand if a deity wants to work with you.
Use divination when asking them. The simplest would be a yes or no form of divination, such as a pendulum or coin flip.
You can ask for a sign and pay attention for the next few days. This includes dreams as well. You could also ask for a specific sign.
You might also just feel the answer in the moment. Or even hear it in your head. This is way more common in people who have been working on their psychic senses.

She is joy, but only the kind of joy you find after a long period of pain. She is generous but not naive. Her worlds are genuine and true but dont take that for granted. She knows what she wants and never speaks without knowing. She is in love with humanity and in love with the world. A helpless romantic with the scars to prove it. If she is angered she has the feminine rage of a thousand ancestors, she has felt the grief and heartbreak of the world and uses it in her defense.
✦ Appearance (UPG)
She will appear to everyone differently and every myth has a different perspective about what she looks like.
To me she has sun tanned olive skin, littered with freckled showing her favor from Helios. Her eyes glimmer golden from her divine heritage. Her black hair is full and curled, she usually wears it in the traditional Minoan style along with her clothes. However she never wears shoes and her hands are covered in callouses from her adventures. Her body is lean as she is/was a dancer. She wears a crown of stars given to her by her husband.

Thoughts for when you really wish to start Deity veneration but you don't know where to start or you're overwhelmed by the many Pantheons or the Evil Internet.
Tumblr media
Maybe if I read something like this I would have started Deity veneration a long time before? Well I don't know, because my situation was a bit different. But still it really resonated with my situation back in the days. So maybe reading something similar to what I'm about to tell you would have helped.
So, you really wish to start Deity work/worship but you're so overwhelmed by the internet or by the many Pantheons that exist, or maybe because even if you know the Deities that you will love to worship one day you don't feel connected to them at this moment (part of what happened to me), even if it's your favourite Deity from childhood.
When I talk about "being overwhelmed by the internet" I'm especially talking to the beginners. You see so many pages about Norse Gods or Greek Gods and you think that you should go with it because everyone does it.
Please don't think like that! I don't know if this has happened to someone but I was accidentally doing it and I was tired of seeing literally every post about Hellenism. I was tired. And let me tell you how an idiot I was. I LOVE the Hellenic Gods. I loved them since I was a child at school reading their myths, and I will forever love them and the history of their land. It was all this social agglomeration that drove me mad.
You don't have to do what everyone does! Or maybe because you're just starting and you don't find information about what you really wish to do... Trust your intuition! Not the Internet! You want to worship both Tyr and Zeus? But you can't find someone that worships them together? So you throw out your ideas? NO. Start worshipping them. You love them. They're Badass.
Now let's talk about if you don't "feel" any of the most famous Pantheons or if you don't know where to start.
I suggest you to do this: it's something that I find soooo important and I'm excited to share this thought with you and I really hope it will help.
Start to look at what your ancient ancestors or the people of your Land worshipped back in the ancient times.
An example for clearing this: you're French. Start researching what the Ancients of your land worshipped! Who the Gauls, the Franks, the Bretons worshipped?
Don't just find a deity connected to them and worship, start with doing research. Start reading the folklore, the mythology... and maybe you will feel something. Maybe you will feel warm, suddenly at home... and one Deity will pop up saying "hello, I'm here" to you, or "I was waiting for you".
Your ancestral blood is warming your body, and you will feel more powerful than ever.
This. This is what happened to me.
When I really started to connect with my land. And I can tell you that's one of the most beautiful sensations in the world.
I feel the ancient power of my land, of the people of my land in my blood, in my soul, just for worshipping Deities that they worshiped too. That they asked for help. That they offered libations of wine and fruits...
I love my Deities so much. And I'm writing this for them, as an offering, and as a Thank You for being in my life. I'm grateful everyday for venerating them.
And I really wish that you will feel this season too. And most importantly that you will find your true Deities. That you will feel at home with them.
And.... maybe.... if you do your research but you don't connect even with the Deities of your Land, maybe it's just not the right time! Trust your intuition, trust the universe.
The time will come.
If you came to this point, thank you for reading what my thoughts had to say!
I hope this will help you.
Glory to the Gods
Until next time,
~G.
