thinking about how many times Angel hides their trauma and bad days from the toys post-game. They just survived an entire week stuck inside PlayCo. and now need to be a parent to not 1, not 2, not 3 or 5 or 15, but 87 children. They need to handle the media and the authorities and to make sure no one ever finds about about the real reason the Hour of Joy happened, they gotta feed and take care of the kids, they gotta find a new house and adapt it to everyone all the while handling the fact that their new family spent the last twenty years stuck inside the factory. All the Smiling Critters and Long Legs need to constantly go to physical therapy while hating going to the doctor. Angel needs to help them adjust to a normal life AND be there for them when they screw up. They would never allow themself to even be slightly vulnerable in front of anyone while all of this is happening.
just. Angel, someone who already has PTSD and had to handle an alcohol addiction in the past, now with trauma #2: electric boogaloo on their shoulders, repressing their own feelings and fears for months in hopes of making sure Catnap and Marie and Dogday and Poppy and everyone else feels safe, the burden of being a parent when they could barely take care of themself just the week before the events of the game. it's the perfect recipe for disaster. Angel loves all of them so much, but they will hardly be able to open up to them about this because they're their parent now. Dogday, for example, KNOWS whats up. He KNOWS Angel is traumatised too but he cant just treat them like he treats the other critters, because Angel is his dad now and Angel will not open up to him about it.

Gotta play with the reticle orientation a bit, but added in variable accuracy and recoil. Standing still focuses the shots faster, and moving outside aim will hard set it to a floor to allow some tension between evasion and lining up ideal shots. Should allow more weapon variability beyond damage and raw fire rate as well (upgrades?).

(dev. notes: this preprototype was aimed to create and test a machine learning model to correctly guess the rune drawn by the players, it can still be improved since it has an accuracy of 97.3%, but probably I could expand the training set as the game gains some funding!) = (translated to not Dev: this preprototype is smarter then an half-blind 🪨 at guessing runes, but still is not good as a 3 years old 👶)

If they can’t afford CGI tears how are they gonna afford CGI WOLVES 😭 I hope they just hire some big wolf-dogs or something I don’t want bad CGI wolves
I actually had a delightful anon a little while ago who spent some time on the True Blood set and suggested IWTV might use wolf-dogs, which gives me a lot of hope, anon, haha.
I will say though too that I think there are probably better prototypes for wolves that exist for VFX artists to work with than there are for blood tears, so while I do think we're at risk when it comes to bad CGI wolves, I think the blood tear budget isn't necessarily an indication of potential wolf-quality, haha.

I made this prototyping box for games and I thought it could be useful to you too
It's a small box with physical materials for quickly creating prototypes. It works for both board games and prototyping video game mechanics.
I like to have everything in a box in case I can take it to a jam or someone’s house to work.
You can make it however you like and with whatever you have at home; in mine, I have:
Materials:
Notebook
Pen
If you have different colors, even better
Scissors
Glue
Scrap pieces of cardboard and paper
Post-its
Various dice
Unused cards
Card sleeves
Very useful for placing your card into an existing one, allowing you to shuffle and use it without having to print or damage the card
Various tokens
I have colored sticks
Tokens of various sizes
I have Parcheesi tokens, checkers, and some buttons
I also have a chessboard lying around for when I don’t want to draw a grid, but it doesn't fit in the box.
There's not much more to it; I encourage you to prototype as soon as possible so you can iterate and show things quickly.

been a while since i poasted a character drawin. think the time between finished images aktly got longer. Sad! Oh well.
ZRANIZKA ZOKOROVDA
The ace of the Aldanar-Haliaros group, and one of the three currently active Tier Six mercenaries - the highest level certification attainable within the Agency for Registry and Regulation of Paramilitary Operators. Originally the head of Research and Development within Haliaros Design and Manufacturing, she applied for a mercenary license after their merger with the Aldanar mercenary guild. None expected that she would quickly begin climbing the ranks at an unprecedented rate, easily outperforming her new colleagues.
Though her sharp instincts and custom equipment made to Haliaros's exacting standards of technological superiority make her an incredibly deadly fighter, her attitude remains that of a temperamental genius instead of a military professional. Other mercenaries tend to view her as troublesome to work with, so she's often deployed on her own- not that she needs the backup.

Some NPC commander path assignment testing. This is with something like 130ish enemies who can see (not very far). Still gotta play with how big I plan a level to be (this is probably roughly where I'll aim, but systems will determine whether this is a lot or not a lot of enemies). Stealth Hell.

Paper prototype of my bag building battle idea.
I hope to achieve something along the lines of building a strategic deck with the decision of what to put into your monster (outside the battle), fast combat that stays engaging through random draws and risk/reward decisions (your monster can overload if you're pushing it too far) and still being chill (no time component and different difficulty options).
Every round you channel an attack through drawing shards/essences from your monsters. When you decide to strike, the damage gets calculated and you can then "buy" temporary shards that are different in every environment (think forest, swamp, snowy mountain etc.). Then they go into your monsters bags and the enemy strikes.
The damage is not put onto the monsters, but a progression bar that starts in the middle. Enemy attacks push it left and you need to reach the right end to defeat them and get the loot.
Taming can happen after pushing it to like 80 % and you need to use some kind of item and of course skip your round.
I aim for 3-4 rounds on normal enemies.
What's in your monster bag you ask? There are different shards representing some type of item/power/attack type and constant shards that further the damage, but also give you overload points. The shards could be crafted or dropped as loot. Maybe you need to find a recipe first. There will be different shards with mechanics that give you more control over your bag, hinder or slow the enemy and "heal" your party.
Temporary environment shards can multiply your damage or do other funny things. This is going to be a balancing hell 😂 maybe I use fixed enemy patterns like in slay the spire.
I want to play it now, but that will take soooo long to prototype. And I'm so tired. I had the idea yesterday evening and was so excited that I barely slept.
Oh and you didn't know that the game is going to be a creature collection game? Well I think I haven't talked about it yet. But you saw that slime I posted a long time ago? He's my first baby.
The flame is such an angry boi 🔥
