Vent fic bc I was all up in my head last night.

"Hey, human? You in there?" Mammon knocks on the bathroom door a few times, but not loudly, like he normally would. It's a gentle knock, accompanied by a gentle tone, "Ya been in the shower over an hour now. Do I gotta come getcha or something?"

There's a long pause.

“The door is unlocked.” You reply, “You can come in. The shower door is closed.”

Mammon seems surprised by your answer, but slowly turns the knob. The faint sound of the shower raining down on you gets louder as he opens the door and steam from the room hits his face. He steps into the bathroom, the mirror and shower door are both foggy from the hot water, mostly hiding your silhouette, but he can tell you're sitting on the shower floor with your back to the showerhead.

“Human… you ok?”

“Yeah.”

“Don't lie to me… we both know you're a terrible liar.”

You stay silent for a brief moment, “I don't get how you guys do it…” You finally speak.

“Do what?” He asks.

“All of it. Everything.”

He stares at the foggy shower door, still not quite understanding what you mean.

“You go to RAD, you work part-time jobs, and you go out and enjoy the day. All of that was hard enough for me back on Earth, but here? It's damn near impossible!”

He leans against the sink, “You sayin’ this is too much for you?”

“Yes.”

“Ha! I figured a regular human would crack eventually.” He smirks.

“Mammon I'm not exactly a regular human…”

“Whatcha mean by that?” 

“Mammon I'm disabled.”

His smirk falls, “Huh? Wait… you are? What the hell?! Why didn't you mention this before? Does Lucifer know?”

“I don't know. And I didn't mention it because…”You stop suddenly. 

“Because?” He raises a brow.

“Because it's easier for people to think you're just useless because you're lazy… it comes with less pity.” You say, disdain dripping in your tone.

Have people told you that? That you're useless? That you're a pitiful creature because of something you can't help?

“Hey!” He shouts, banging a fist on the shower door causing you to startle, “Do not talk about yourself like that, ok?” His lips are pressed into a thin line. Is that how you view yourself? That's bullshit! You're not useless! Not to him. Not to any of the brothers. His fist slowly lays flat out on the door as he presses his palm against it, “Do you really think if any of that were true that The Great Mammon would bother watchin’ over you?” He says with a slight blush.

You look up at Mammon's hand splayed firmly on the glass. You start to slowly get up and press your hand against it on the other side, “Hey Mammon?”

“Yeah?”

“Thank you.” You speak softly.

“Tch, don't think anything of it. I'm just lettin’ you know the truth. You're not a useless human just cause you can't do some things some other humans can. No one in this house would dare to think that about my human!” He removes his hand, a blush still dusting his cheeks as he sees your hand against the glass too. As you start to remove your own hand his cheeks grow redder as the handprints have wiped some of the fog and he can see your face looking back at him while you're absolutely drenched.

And… naked…

His eyes wander for a split second before going back to your face. He turns his head away and raises a hand to shield his face, “Ah! I didn't see anything!” He says almost too quickly.

“Haha. It's alright Mammon, I trust you. I know you're not gonna make this weird like Asmo would.”

His blushing only gets worse. You… trust him? He smiles faintly at that thought. His human actually trusts him. He's ecstatic! He glanced back over, “Yeah? I-I mean yeah! Of course I'm not gonna be weird. Uh… anyway, you almost done in there? Lucifer's gonna have a cow if you raise the water bill all by yourself in there.”

“Yeah, I'm done. I already washed off… I just needed to have the hot water on me for a while is all. Eases the pain a little.”

He walks over to the towel rack and grabs you a couple of towels as he hears you turning the water off. “Hey. Slide the door open a little bit and I'll hand you some towels.”

“Ok.” You slide the door just a crack and reach your arm out. He hands you the towels, looking away with red dusted cheeks. You wrap a towel around your body, then place the other on your head to dry your hair. You open the door all the way and step out to see Mammon at the bathroom door with his arms crossed and his back to you.

“You're gonna tell me all the details of your disability tonight! The Great Mammon needs to know these things so he can make sure ya stay alive for the whole year ya know!?” He huffs, trying to hide the fact that he actually cares and wants to help make accommodations for you to the best of his ability. 

You nod, “Ok, I'll tell you. It might make things easier here too. I mean… you guys seem pretty lost on what an abled human can handle.” You laugh.

“Hey! We're learning here!” He huffs again.

“I know.” You smile and place a hand on his back and pat it, sending a shiver down his body, “Thanks Mammon.”

“... Don't mention it.” He smiles.

Forced to Disable your VPN when Registering for Darkreading Webinars

Anyone else out there going through the hassle of signing up for darkreading.com webinars…??? As in the following: “I have a VPN on to protect my pc and data. But, whenever I go to register for a darkreading.com webinar – I HAVE TO DISABLE MY VPN (for sites here in America)” At that point, my cybersecurity senses kick in immediately and I worry about the darkreading.com site hosting Zero Day…

Every institution telling me to get a job and I'm sitting here like "yeah that'd be great just let me get a university education and I'll do it". And then they're like "oh neat yes we'd LOVE that PLEASE do :)" but unfortunately I want to do it part time and then suddenly every institution's like "Oh no, not like that, we'd REALLY prefer you were unemployed :/"

I'm currently having to debate whether or not to stop my Testosterone script because I'm extremely diasbled in the USSouth and finally in a place where I can receive treatment. I've had to justify to multiple cis male doctors why I'm on T and its terrifying every time. Being alone in a room with someone, not knowing how they feel about trans people. Knowing they can just completely fuck over my ability to get treated. I hate having to choose between the joy I feel on T and the potentiality of receiving worse care for life-threatening illnesses.

Do people really think doctors respect me more for being on T? I've had multiple doctors try to blame my (lifelong) health issues on having started it recently

im sorry you've had this experience, that's awful. i don't know why people act like this either, because in the USA and other countries, testosterone is a controlled substance which means that it's heavily monitored and people who are on it do get scrutinized because they want to make sure we're not abusing them for participating in professional sports, selling them, and so on. it sucks really bad. doctors instantly need to know exactly why you're on it

and yes, a lot of health issues get blamed on it, too. there's this idea that testosterone will make you instantly unhealthy and i hate it. its going to vary wildly from person to person, dose to dose, method of administration, health conditions, and the list just goes on. there are people who take T that never have issues with health problems and yet doctors make that assumption. i'm sorry you're going through this, but thanks for sharing your story. it needs to be heard

I just...

OH YES. I remember my first day of Society Lessons as a hearing person, where the everything was explained to me. Via Audiobook. FIRST they spoke and said, "you are standing on the ground." It was a life changing revelation, and the world began to spin.

But it did not stop.

THEN they said, "there are fingers on your hands." The sensation of flesh and bone crackling into existence is indescribable, but I did not yet know pain, until they told me, "that hurts." I began screaming immediately.

And yet... it continued.

They explained so much. Chairs. Tables. Walls. The sky. Frogs. Ionizing radiation. Breathing. I was told all of it, in one sitting, and only then did I understand. Only when my ears were bursting with normal hearing knowledges, did they begin... my final test.

A strange wall-chair-finger emerged from the sky-of-the-wall, stood on the ground several times, until it was in front of me. A second one came behind it, this one slimmer. The audiobook gave these things names;

Human. Father. Mother. Door. Walking. It was completely impossible to know what these things were until that very moment.

I watch a human dip a hook into water and produce a fish, and I recall my Society Lessons where they called that "fishing." I am decked in the face by a nefarious hooligan, and I have only the audiobook to thank when I know I have been "punched" by a "bad guy." It was only the magic of verbal-speaking-words-noise that made me understand that there are "other people" and that they "do stuff."

Sometimes, even, in "groups."

Before the Society Lessons Audiobook, I knew nothing. I was pure, innocent, uncorrupted by concepts such as "parents" and "door." I am grateful every day that there is no such concept as "being shown things" or "simple logical reasoning" or "looking."

Blessed be those amongst us who escape the horrors of the Society Lessons Audiobook. I pray that you never learn what anything is. Be free! Free as a bird, which also knows nothing and famously cannot learn. 🤗

DEAF/HOH FOLLOWERS I'm losing my mind do you want me to bump a 'Hearing Disabilities Herb Guide' to the top of my priorities? Something you can use to bludgeon whackadoodles like that. This is ridiculous

Obviously not a MEDICINE guide but like; common causes of hearing disability in clan cats. Accommodations for hearing loss vs congenital deafness. Actual difficulties of not having that sense Clan-by-Clan. Debunking of misconceptions like... not being able to learn APPARENTLY.

May I remind them how the fandom treated Adam even though he was revealed to be a former slave?

May I remind them how the fandom treated Ironwood by comparing him to Putin and making ableist comments?

May I remind them how Cinder is losing her humanity because of her grim arm. Which is something that feels like it comes Piper C.J. (an author who wrote a disable villain with a curse arm that made her be evil).

I have literally seen rwby analysts using ableist commentary about how Adam is using disability against Blake or Ironwood arm is a symbolism of the lost of his humanity and moral justice.

That fandom even compare which character is more diasble than other. Treating them like it come sort of competition and saying this character disability is more important than theirs
