I gained quite the collection of Lush perfumes over the past four years since I started collecting them. I've branched out a little bit from the brand although I'll admit most designer perfume houses don't capture the kind of scent I personally like so I tend not to indulge in them.
So here's all of the Lush scents I own. I've tried the bulk of what they have to offer including some discontinued scents. Detailed below I have reviews for the thirty-two scents I own. Lush makes some very unique scents, some I absolutely adore and have yet to come across anything like it.
Hopefully this provides a little bit of insight in what they offer, I don't like to blind buy scents myself so I like to share my thoughts!
1000 Kisses Deep:
Available only in the 100ml liquid format and part of Lush's 'black label' collection. This scent is very much jasmine forward, if you're not a fan of jasmine - you will not like 1000 Kisses Deep. The biggest things that shine about this scent is the resinous amber and mulled fruit scent of apricots. I personally would not call this a 'sweet scent', there's nothing gourmand about it spite the fruit notes, they land more dried florals and fruits than fresh plump and juicy.
Definitely a year round scent, 1000 Kisses Deep is like a warm hug with a bit of a shimmery sparkle of a scent. It's very romantic and sensual. The jasmine turns clean and powdery on skin, reminding me of fuzzy sweaters and hugs over kisses. It's fairly similar to another scent that Lush currently offers called "Keep it Fluffy" - it's slightly more heady and full bodied.
Projection is decent, not super overpowering. Lasts around 5-6 hours on skin.
7/10. Warm jasmine fragrance for special occasions.
Alina:
Available as part of the core collection and in a solid, 30ml, and 100ml bottle formats. There's nothing that currently smells just like Alina, this is a scent made up of three different perfumes blended together representing three different generations by the perfumer Alina herself (which is neat). Old Songs are Waking is one part of this fragrance, there's a scrub that's offered around Mother's Day that has been release both this year and last year that makes up the sweet, syrupy berry vanilla of this busy scent.
Overall this is a spicy (from cloves and pink pepper), resinous, woody scent that holds a bit of a floral/soapy note. The sweetness sits in the background along with a mature white floral, I would argue this is a bit of a feminine scent spite Lush's marketing of all of their scents being unisex. The biggest standouts is the spices and clean woody notes for me, on skin it settles with the pepper note being the most forward. I'd say this a more 'warm weather scent', the other parts of the fragrance get to shine in the heat versus the cold so for me, I wear this in the late spring/summer. I will warn folks that this is a BUSY scent and has a lot going on - definitely one I'd highly recommend testing first before purchasing; not blind buy friendly.
Projection is decent, this is a fairly strong scent from Lush's collection and easily lasts on skin for about 6-8 hours with only a few sprays.
7/10. Good spicy/clean frag.
Baked Alaska:
Only available in the December 2024 kitchen subscription box it bares the same scent as the 'Baked Alaska' soap that typically comes back as part of the Christmas collection every year. It's also only available as a solid perfume. Baked Alaska is a very fresh, clean lemon scent that has a tinge of herbal/floral notes kicking around in the background, on skin it doesn't change much. The closest thing Lush currently offers would be "Dad's Garden Lemon Tree" body spray which is slightly brighter/green as a scent overall. The two are very similar, so imho if you have one you don't really need the other.
Projection is very surface level and the scent lingers on skin for about 4 hours at most. Overall I prefer Dad's Garden body spray, both are fairly straightforward and aren't anything wild.
5/10. Mid. Nothing special.
The Bees Knees:
Available as part of the core collection in solid, 30ml, and 100ml formats. I want to warn folks that there's nothing gourmand or sweet about this fragrance spite what they might think when they read the name. The Bees Knees is a smoky, herbal, medicinal, hay scent. It's warm, earthy, and only has a faint honey scent on the dry down. There's a slight spiciness that comes through with the smoky note.
It's personally one of my favourite scents that Lush has to offer and there's nothing else they've made that's like it. It's unique and to me very nostalgic as it takes me back to crisp winter mornings through wheat fields with a woodstove going in the background. It's very cozy once it dries, I will also say that the solid versus the liquid is slightly different - the solid is less smoky and carries a more medicinal/herbal take on the scent with almost a hint of creaminess. I prefer the liquid although the solid does perform well and lasts for several hours.
Projection is average. The scent lasts for about 5-6 hours and is easily layered with other scents. I enjoy pairing up vanilla scents with it giving a smoky/sweet fragrance.
9/10. Perfect cold weather scent.
Breath of God:
Available only in the 100ml format as part of the 'black label' collection. Breath of God is definitely what I'd call a cold weather scent, reminiscent of Tibetan mountain temples it's smoky, woody, airy with a heavy dosage of incenses. There's a sweet underbelly to this scent that gives it a more lively take and mellows nicely with the smoky side of the fragrance. Very unisex, and easily layered with either green scents or even bright citrus scents.
Hands down another favourite scent of mine. Breath of God isn't for everybody but it's gorgeous and is fairly strong. Projection is good and it can easily last 10-12 hours with just 3-4 sprays. I can still smell it on my clothes the day after wearing it. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to smell just like what I described, it really is a magical fragrance that transports me to another place.
10/10. Lush's best 'smoky' fragrance.
Confetti:
Unavailable here in Canada, this fragrance was actually brought back to US shops in the 100ml 'black label' format only. Confetti is a violet forward floral fragrance that has a jammy pear note that's combined with sandalwood and rose. It's exactly as the name implies and definitely gives me the mental image of confetti or glitter especially when it dries down turning more sugary than the initial spray. There's a hint of a green freshness but overall it's somewhat heavy of a fragrance and is definitely a rougher blend.
If you don't like rose or violets, this is not the fragrance for you. It's a very much in your face kind of floral.
Projection is vast, lasts easily the whole day on skin even with just two sprays. Confetti is a powerhouse of a scent from Lush and one I'd argue is probably a contender for their strongest. A little bit goes a long way. I personally bought my bottle when it was being disconned, it's technically 'expired' but still performs just like the day I bought it.
8/10. Very floral heavy and rough around the edges.
Dad's Garden Honeysuckle And Chamomile:
Unavailable currently; was disconned last year sadly. This is a well light airy floral scent with both jasmine and orange blossom. To me it's spring time in a bottle - reminiscent of grassy fields blooming with wildflowers on a bright dewy morning. It's a pleasant scent that easily wearable and it's overbearing. With a bit of green/grassy note pairing up with the florals it invokes bright sunny gardens. Very fresh, very gentle with a subtle sweetness - the chamomile shines through with a photorealistic scent. Spite having no actual honeysuckle, you can definitely smell honeysuckle.
Projection is average. Lasts around 5-6 hours on skin with a few sprays. Light and not at all cloying definitely a favourite of mine.
9/10. Spring/Summertime everyday floral.
Death and Decay:
Available in only 100ml format as part of the 'black label' collection. I'm not usually someone who goes for powdery florals but Death and Decay is something else. it's an almost one for one of funeral bouquets and the tears someone might've shed holding one. It's got a sopping sad yet beautiful scent of fresh lilies and jasmine flowers with a touch of sweetness from the tonka. It's a very gothic, feminine fragrance that really stands well with it's name. It's heavy yet soft and powdery especially once it dries down. There's something nostalgic about it, something very unique that I've yet to come across out of the dozens of florals I've smelt.
It's not light and playful but Death and Decay also isn't a mature floral either. Definitely one I'd recommend giving a sniff before dedicating yourself to a whole bottle.
Projection is decent, lasts about 7-8 hours on skin with a few sprays. sticks to clothes like crazy. Definitely worth having.
8/10. Brooding, powdery floral for special occasions.
Fantabulosa:
Unavailable currently. Fantabulosa is a very unique scent, definitely what I'd coin as "Tank Battle's sweeter sister". The labdanum and the chamomile oil give this scent it's signature sweet ever so slightly herbal undertone. It's a strange one with oakmoss, seaweed, and violet composing the rest of the scent in equal parts however it doesn't come across as 'green' or 'earthy'.
I can totally understand why people get banana from this scent, although that initial note dies down pretty quick to an almost aquatic mellow resinous sweetness that I find difficult to describe. Absolutely not blind buy friendly but I would argue that if you like the aforementioned Tank Battle, you'd probably like this to an extent. It just doesn't hold the wet, metallic note and replace the initial blast of bubblegum with banana and that's pretty much Fantabulosa in a nutshell.
Projection is average. Sadly has very little lasting power on skin. I have to spray it on clothes for it to stick any bit, which it still only lasts about 4 hours. Reminds me of another scent Lush offers that has the same problem - Sun, gorgeous scent, little staying power. I don't think I'd buy Fantabulosa again for that alone.
5/10. Polarizing, but doesn't last.
Fresh As:
Available in solid, 30ml, and 100ml bottles as part of the year round collection. If you want pine, then look no further. Like putting your face into an evergreen tree it's fresh and bright with the scent of pines and fir. Very wintery, more masculine leaning as a fragrance and is easily layered with other scents of a wide variety. It's pretty straightforward and doesn't change much scent wise once it dries down. It's a very photorealistic scent and definitely transports me to a Christmas tree farm during early winter or late autumn.
Projection is good. Lasts about 7-8 hours on skin. Well worth the money.
8/10. PINE TREES.
Furze:
Available in 100ml 'black label' bottle only. The solid version was only available in recent years as a kitchen box exclusive. This is a summery grassy, coconut scent with a hint of warm creamy florals of neroli in the background. It's definitely a summer scent as implied, bringing back days at the beach. Personally I find it smells just like coconut playdough especially for the solid version considering it's much more creamier than the liquid. Not quite my taste but someone else might love it.
Projection is okay. Lasts about 4 hours on skin.
4/10. Better coconut summer scents exist; not my cup of tea.
Ginger:
Available in 100ml 'black label' bottle only. I've had two bottles of Ginger, the formula has been slightly different out of the two so I'll be reviewing the current one which is the black label that you can still buy from Lush and not the old white label. Old formula smelled more of pickled ginger for anyone who is curious, I personally like the newer batch better.
Ginger is very much a retro floral as implied by the description Lush gives it on their website. It's a nostalgic, very 50s/60s floral with a bit of pepperiness along with the prominent ginger fragrance. It's absolutely stunning and has an earthy, dry woody note in the background. It's reminiscent of an age gone by and makes me long for those times even though I wasn't alive to witness them.
The scent does change slightly on the dry down, for me I get a smoky scent that pulls through with the ginger and the dried geraniums. It's an interesting scent for sure and one I'd definitely recommend people try if they want something spicy.
Projection is decent. Lasts all day on skin, although it draws closer to the surface as the day goes on. Perfect for not wanting to drown in a scent and sits lightly on the skin without ever becoming overpowering.
9/10. Retro spicy florals at their best.
Goddess:
Available in the 100ml 'black label' bottle only. This is a deep, dark, yet sensual scent. Holding equal parts spices, florals, and a grounding woodiness Goddess is unique and one that stands out from Lush's lineup. There's a sparkly fizziness that's reminiscent of cola from this scent that shines through from the oudh. Very luxurious it definitely has an almost alluring glitter with how the jasmine intermingles with both the osmanthus and the rose (both of which I wouldn't be able to pick out if it wasn't listed in the ingredients). There's also a slightly smoky element to it that peeks in to find a place among the rest of the scent.
Goddess very much reminds me of the colour purple for some funny reason and hilariously enough Lush does offer a purple sparkly bath bomb that just so happens to be purple with this scent. It's very much a cold weather scent for me, I think it's a bit too heavy for the warmer months of the year.
On dry down it gets a little more woody for me and mellows. It's definitely one I'd say to test first and not blind buy if you can help it.
Projection is good. Lasts easily 8-10 hours on skin with a few sprays and sticks to clothes extremely well. I'd highly recommend if you enjoy heavy woody/spicy scents.
9/10. Very aptly named.
Go Green:
Unavailable currently. The solid was exclusive to the July 2024 kitchen subscription box, this review is based off that version considering I've never smelled the long disconned liquid version.
Earthy and grounding, Go Green is a lovely mixture of sandalwood, vetiver, and citrus giving it an almost lemony scent with oakmoss. It's warm yet bright and comforting with a tinge of sweet creamy citrus to pull through. On skin the citrus takes a little bit of a backseat as it melds to a more cozy wood scent, I'd definitely buy a bottle if it was ever rereleased in it's liquid format.
Projection is minimal. Lasts about 4-5 hours on skin but really mellows out as time goes on, loses the citrus almost completely.
5/10. Cozy, but doesn't last.
Grass:
Interestingly enough this is the only scent in the current 'black label' lineup that's available in not only 100ml, but also a 10ml travel size. Grass is bright, green, and very mellow of a scent. It's a woodsy floral that invokes the cool mornings of early summer and the scent of fresh cut grass. It's not a vegetal scent and I would argue that it's not super photorealistic but it's a very fun and playful green scent out of Lush's lineup that I adore.
Sandalwood, neroli, and bergamont are the ingredients that makes up this scent and they come together perfectly to make something that's very refreshing. On the dry down, it becomes more mellow reminding me of late summer afternoons with a touch of warmth that gives me quite the nostalgia. Very much a summer scent, although I wear it year round because it's one of my favourites.
Projection is good. Lasts about 7-8 hours on skin with a few spritzes. Not heavy, cloying or overpowering and definitely gets lighter as the day goes on. Absolutely lovely and also very easy to layer with other scents, my two favourites to pair with it is Breath of God and Dad's Garden.
10/10. Bright grassy summer afternoons in a bottle.
Karma:
Available as part of Lush's year round collection it comes in solid, 10ml, 30ml, and 100ml bottles. This is a very nostalgic 60's bright 'hippie' scent with patchouli, orange, and pine. The old formula used to be more patchouli heavy (which I liked better), but the current rendition has a stronger orange and pine note. Karma is bright, very playful and very easy to layer. Doesn't change much on skin and is definitely a scent staple for anybody who enjoys Lush's scents.
Karma was actually what got me into Lush perfumes in general, I absolutely loved the Karma Kream body lotion they had with the same scent. I'm currently on my second bottle of Karma. I would definitely argue that it is, through and through, the essential 'hippie' scent.
Projection is good. Lasts a good 8-10 hours on skin and is easily wearable year round. I can see why it's part of their core collection.
9/10. Easily wearable hippie shop.
Kerbside Violet:
Unavailable currently as it was disconned last year. Kerbside violet is fifty percent florals, fifty percent fresh cut grass with the two melded together primarily by violet flowers budding up through cracks in the concrete. This scent instantly transports me to a spring time rainstorm in a field of grass and flowers - very green. It's not a heavy floral whatsoever but does have an almost earthy/wet element to it. Absolutely recommended for anyone that enjoys green florals. Bright and fresh I'd argue this is a timeless scent that can be worn by anybody.
Projection is fantastic. Lasts all day on skin and sticks to clothes for at least a few days. An absolute shame this has been disconned, I'm hoping Lush brings this back one day because I'd absolutely buy another bottle.
10/10. Essential green floral for everyday wear.
Lord of Misrule:
Available in solid, 10ml, 30ml, and 100ml bottles from Lush's year round collection. Somewhat similar with Karma on the patchouli note Lord of Misrule also has black pepper and vanilla. It's absolutely a one of a kind scent that I have yet to smell anything remotely similar to. Sweet, yet spicy the vanilla and the patchouli create an almost syrupy scent.
This is definitely a scent I would recommend trying on skin before buying because it'll bring out different parts of the scent majorly depending on the person. I tend to have a much more sweeter dry down than what's initially sprayed, however some folks get the peppery side of Lord of Misrule (I wish my skin did that). It's easily layered with other scents and lends itself nicely to some that I've already mentioned namely Fresh As and Breath of God are my go to.
Projection is fantastic. Lasts all day on skin and sticks around on clothes for at least a couple of days. An essential fragrance from Lush.
10/10. Sweet and Spicy. Very Autumn/Winter.
Lust:
Available in the solid, 10ml, 30ml, and 100ml bottles as part of Lush's year round collection. Heady, in your face, sweet jasmine with a very sensual touch is Lust in a nutshell. It's a very bold, very confident fragrance that just screams floral. If you do not like jasmine, then you're not going to like this scent. There's vanilla, ylang ylang, and sandalwood that round out this fragrance and give it it's signature sweetness. The jasmine is like sticking your face into a pot of fresh flowers and almost drowning in them.
The projection for this scent is insane. Lasts forever and is definitely another contender for one of Lush's strongest fragrances. If you love a dirty, hefty floral and just so happen to love jasmine then look no further.
10/10. Sexiest jasmine scent you'll ever own.
No Way To Say Goodbye:
Available in solid, 30ml, and 100ml bottle formats from Lush's year round collection. This is a blackcurrant heavy scent, with rose, litsea cubeba oil and tonka to back it up. Very syrupy, very jammy, and very sweet almost like fresh berries. No Way To Say Goodbye is definitely different out of any of the other sweet scents that Lush has to offer. It's heavy yet playful almost in the same sense that Confetti was except this is more mulled fruit with a sticky sweet rose to combine it with. Not a mature floral by any means and certainly not green either. I could see a younger audience really loving this scent.
On skin, at least for me, it dies down to a more creamy, less jammy version of itself. Almost like a berries and cream with rose. I personally really like it but I don't know if I'd buy a big bottle since I'm not someone who reaches for sweet scents as a general rule of thumb.
Projection is decent. Lasts about 5-6 hours on skin. Performs okay for what it is.
7/10. Syrupy and fun.
Orange Blossom:
Unavailable currently. Part of the handful of fragrances that were disconned last year. This is one of the few really strong florals that I adore, Orange Blossom is not for the faint of heart. With bitter orange oils and extracts to give that signature orange blossom scent, it's rounded off slightly with both bergamont, rosewood, and beeswax to take the edge off of this potent fragrance lending to an almost spicy finish. This definitely mellows with wear, the dry down is not as sharp considering there's a bit of green/vegetal note upon spraying.
Reminding me of warm summer days or very late spring when the flowers on the fruit trees are in full bloom I'd consider Orange Blossom a more warm weather scent. It's got a good amount of depth and warmth to it once it dries and becomes more smooth with a woody base.
Projection is amazing, similar to Lust. This sticks like a punch in the face and lasts on skin all day with just a few sprays. It's very potent and spite it being slight rough at the start it settles nicely as time goes on.
9/10. In your face summer floral.
Prince of Darkness:
Available only in solid format from the October 2024 kitchen box subscription. Prince of Darkness smells exactly as it sounds, patchouli with rich lavender. It's simple but gorgeous of a scent with almost a hint of sparkle behind the two main scent notes - very reminiscent feel of what Goddess gives with how it smells from the get go.
For a solid it performs really well, projection isn't crazy but it does last 5-6 hours on skin with a few swipes. I would love to see Lush come back with a liquid form of this scent or even something similar. Pairs really well with some of the heavier scents or even Karma or Lord of Misrule.
7/10. Witchy yet simple; leaves you longing for autumn/Halloween.
Rentless:
Unavailable currently, but definitely one I long to come back. Rentless is absolutely not blind buy friendly but it's a gorgeous cold weather scent that screams autumn/winter to me. It's a very complex scent that's well rounded with a layer of sweet spices and a hint of smoke. With the main base being being of patchouli, labdanum, tonka, and vanilla I would've never of guessed either of these were there if someone didn't point it out to me. The biggest things that stand out besides the well rounded earthy, subtly sweet base is the whiff of citrus mainly of grapefruit and the cinnamon/anise that shines through - the very same that you get from holiday cookies or cakes without the sugary sweetness.
I wouldn't call Rentless gourmand or sugary by any means, its resinous, slightly woody, a touch leathery with a good layer of spice. For me when it dries my skin brings out the patchouli/labdanum a little more and creates almost a woody/spicy scent. It's warm, comforting and reminds me very much of the beginning of winter when you get the first cold snap.
Performance wise, this is a powerhouse. Two sprays and I can smell it the whole day, my bottle is over four years old and it still performs like new. It's well worth every penny I paid for it and will probably last me a long time because I don't have to use much to enjoy it.
10/10. Spiced winter/autumn staple.
Rose Jam:
Available currently in solid, 10ml, 30ml, and 100ml bottles as part of Lush's year round lineup. There's also a body spray worth mentioning that lasts forever with a slightly stronger lemon note compared to the perfume that deserves a nod to.
To me Rose Jam screams Valentine's Day with it's jammy, almost sugary rose scent that met with a bright candied lemon. It reminds me of rose sweets, or white chocolates you can buy for the romantic holiday. Very fun, playful and not at all a green or powdery scent, Rose Jam runs as a youthful fragrance imho.
Projection is decent. Lasts all day on skin with only a few sprays. Performs really well for what it is even if it can be very simple/one note.
8/10. Valentine's Day in a bottle.
Shade:
Available in solid, 30ml, and 100ml bottles as part of Lush's year round collection. This is an interesting scent and definitely one of the few that Lush offers that I would argue is a true unisex scent. Shade starts out a woody, powdery scent with a touch of citrus - more particularly lime and almost reminds me of a gentle house cleaner in the best of ways. It's definitely one that I recommend trying if you enjoy warm woodsy scents because this has almost a feminine softness.
Not overpowering in the slightest on skin it dries as a very grounded wood fragrance that easily layered with other scents. Slightly keeping the powdery note it settles nicely into something very intimate that's great for getting up close.
Projection is average. On skin it lasts 5-6 hours and is definitely on the lighter side. I personally really like shade, I mainly have it for layering which I think it's best for.
7/10. Unisex intimate layering woody scent.
Sikkim Girls:
Unavailable currently. I managed to get my hand on a decant of this disconned beauty. Sikkim girls is a heavy white floral featuring frangipani, tuberose, jasmine and vanilla. The biggest thing I pick up is the frangipani and the jasmine, it has almost an incense quality to it but it grounded with the sweetness of the vanilla which sits very much as the backdrop of this fragrance.
I will mention it since I get it from the frangipani note that there's a certain ureic scent that I pick up from it on initial spray but thankfully it dies down to a more softer, creamy scent overall. Kind of has a slight musty smell and might turn people away, I can see folks either loving or hating this scent. It's definitely another that's not for the faint of heart and is absolutely what I'd consider almost an old age floral that transports me back a century ago. A very Victorian edge that transports me to old temples with a certain exotic touch. Not something that I'd recommend people blind buy, that's for sure.
Projection is crazy large. Lasts forever on skin and you'll feel like you're drowning if you spray too much. An absolute powerhouse of a fragrance and one that doesn't need any more than two to three sprays per wear.
9/10. Heady white florals not to be worn on a whim.
The Smell of Weather Turning:
Available only in 100ml 'black label' bottle, disconned in both the US and Europe so I would imagine Canada will follow suit soon which is a shame. This is hands down one of Lush's most unique and wearable fragrances, it's a wild ride start to finish and really needs time to settle as it mellows out over time.
I adore this scent, the peppermint is stunning - electric even that I haven't seen in anything else even other mint forward scents. The Smell of Weather Turning is a medicinal, herbal blend that dries down to a mellow hay/tea/chamomile scent that's very nostalgic and brings me back to playing as a kid in the wetland not far from my house in the summer humidity. Very refreshing, the opening has a very prominent mint scent that holds a cooling feel and sits like the wet rain on skin. Both the beeswax and the bay leaf oil compliment this scent nicely bringing out an overall sweetness and a touch of green herbs to the blend. There's definitely an airy, breezy feel to the initial touch but warms when it dries with an almost aquatic feel.
Projection wise is decent. Lasts 10-12 hours on skin and far longer on clothes. Not at all heavy or cloying and lays lightly even after hours of wear. Absolute perfection. Highly recommend.
10/10. Refreshing/unique light scent with the oncoming storm.
Tank Battle:
Available only in the 100ml 'black label' format. There's nothing quite like Tank Battle, it's Lush's weird and quirkiness at it's finest. Composed primarily of labdanum, patchouli, and clove oil this is a wet, earthy dirt scent like sticking your face into a mud puddle in the best of ways with a bubblegum sweetness.
Upon first spray this scent actually reminds me exactly of pickled beets (which I love), that moment when you crack open a fresh jar that someone made themselves at for turkey dinner is exactly what I smell. Once it starts to dry it becomes this cool, metallic, wet concrete scent that's complete with an earthy dirt to join in. Mellow and not at all overwhelming, it's something that is unforgettable as it sits quietly yet loudly at the same time. If silence made a sound, this is partly what I would imagine. It evokes images of a city being overtaken by nature in my mind.
Projection is decent. Lasts 10-12 hours on skin, Tank Battle like some of Lush's other labdanum/patchouli scents sits for a long time without choking someone out. It's quite the blend but very refreshing.
10/10. Weird in the best kind of way; one of kind experience.
Toil And Trouble:
Only available as part of the community fragrance releases from November 2023 and only in a 30ml bottle. Toil and Trouble is another patchouli/labdanum fragrance that has a bit of a twist with both the sage and orris oil changing the scent to be this witchy, earthy, yet almost fruity fragrance. If you've ever smelled the scrub by the same name that comes out every year with Lush's Halloween releases then you know exactly what this smells like because they're one for one.
If you love green, very herbal, strong patchouli scents with an almost fizzy spiciness then this is definitely something that I'd say go for it. I personally love the scent, it's deep yet bright. Reminds me of a cocktail of potions inside a witches hut, very Halloween, very much a cold, sharp autumn night with a layer of frost. It's a shame that this was limited edition and only released in a small format.
Projection is average. Lasts on skin for 6-8 hours. Makes me want to buy dozens of tubs for the scrub just for the scent.
8/10. Witchy and patchouli heavy that screams Halloween.
Tuca Tuca:
Unavailable currently. This was another scent that I slept on and ended up getting a decant of. Tuca Tuca is absolutely delicious, it's a sweet berry violet flower scent that has the same jammy/sticky goodness that Rose Jam has without being heavy on the florals. It's a playful, youthful scent that packs a punch but holds a syrupy note to the point it's almost gourmand.
It's the same scent family as Don't Rain on my Parade, however for me, the dry down has a caramel note that really shines through that I get when I move that the shower gel didn't have. It's definitely more on the juicy berry side than the other iterations of the scent, something that I'll warmly welcome considering they're far and few between without being muddied by other scent notes.
Projection is decent, doesn't stink out a room but it's definitely noticeable and is my personal most complimented scent. Lasts 10-12 hours on skin with just a few sprays. If I could bathe in this I would.
10/10. Delicious berry violet scent that turns heads.
Two More Hearts:
Unavailable currently, got axed during the culling last year. This is the other fragrance that screams Valentine's Day to me. If Rose Jam was the sweets, this is the fuzzy sweaters, the warm hugs and the playful kisses. Two More Hearts is Keep it Fluffy's more fun, sweeter sister - all the goodness of sweet florals without dipping into being powdery or mature like its counterpart. Definitely the fun fragrance that wants to live life and go out to whatever celebration is planned.
It's rose and jasmine with a touch of santal wood and sweet citrus creating a fuzzy, resinous scent that's very much romantic. Youthful and exciting, this is sadly one that I think a lot of people slept on including myself for the longest while.
Projection is fantastic. Lasts easily 12 hours or more on skin, I can always smell this the day after on my clothes with just 3-4 sprays. It's a shame this was disconned, Keep it Fluffy should've been the one to go imho.
10/10. Sweet Romance in a bottle.
V:
Available in only 100ml 'black label' bottle. This is Lush's other sweet violet scent, but V has a deep brooding spiciness to it that isn't present in any of the other scents. Very gothic with it's mulled fruit, aged woodiness, touch of clove, and the deep violets. The violet in this scent is very similar to that of Tuca Tuca - V is like her older foreboding sister that hangs out in the crumbling castle walls during the winter months. This is a strong heavy scent, and definitely isn't for the meek.
Spite how dark V is, I wouldn't called it a 'mature' scent by any means - there's still a youthful shine with how the violet is presented; almost syrupy and sweet.
Projection is average. Lasts 6-7 hours on skin and much longer on clothes with a few sprays.
8/10. Spiced sweet violets for cold mornings.
In conclusion:
I've tried a lot more of Lush's scent library than this and my tastes have definitely changed over the years but this is my impression of the ones that I have. I do only buy what I enjoy. Hopefully this helps folks decide whether or not they're for them because I find reviews can be all over the place and not always accurate, people do have different sniffers!
If I was to say a top five of mine I'd probably have to choose Grass, Dad's Garden Honeysuckle And Chamomile, The Bees Knees, The Smell of Weather Turning, and Tank Battle. Runner up would be between Rentless, Breath of God, or Tuca Tuca depending on how I'm feeling.
There's a couple of fragrances I'm looking to grab sometime this year from Lush - Devils Nightcap and Time of the Season - both are supposed to be more green scents (my favourite type of scents!).
I'll be doing up reviews of the Lush body sprays next so keep your eyes peeled!
Cheers!

two slow dancers last ones out... diluc x reader
it was hard after the breakup. remembering all the memories you had with diluc was heartbreaking even if they don’t bring you any butterflies anymore. you remember vividly when you baked with adeline and diluc when you were little. you guys were childhood best friends. you remember when he sparred with you for the first time, obtaining his first vision. the stars of admiration in your eyes when you saw the new charm attached to his slacks.
but something changed with diluc, you know it. he was no longer the warm, softhearted diluc you used to know. instead, he was replaced with the rigid coldness that mondstadt had in the winter. he was no longer your diluc who baked pies with you. he is diluc raghvinder who is now the current owner of dawn winery despite not liking the taste of wine.
you wish you could take back the romance you had for diluc so you wouldn’t be aching with his pain. but you know that’s too selfish and you still appreciate your relationship with him. besides you know he would hurt even more than you would. especially when he just lost his brother and father all in the same night. the downfall of crepus raghvinder but the up and coming diluc raghvinder.
although it hurts seeing him gone from your life, you suppose it would be best to leave mondstadt and have your own adventures with newer people. you tried to keep contact with diluc with your new adventures in sumeru and liyue. but he never responded. you guessed it would be weird to keep in contact with your ex and move on from diluc. even so, you did keep in contact with other friends of yours like kaeya and amber.
it has been around four years since you left mondstadt. not like you regretted it, of course. you liked the new thrill, new foods and the dilemmas you had. you have new friends like beidou, hutao, kaveh and ganyu! the adventures with them even if it was just little errands still were joyful. even though you have multiple places to call home. they could never compare to the place that has been your home.

Started; october 29th
Finished; october 30th
~~~
Calc. Again, great. You sat at your desk as you waited for Ms Norbury to start her lesson, you'd only just gotten there a few moments ago but you were already bored with it. That's when you noticed Cady walk in, wearing.. what the hell were those shoes? Pink heels? Girl, this was highschool. But you played nice, after all she's been nice to you.
As Cady took her seat, you looked back at her and smirked. Glancing at her shoes before looking at her," new shoes?" You asked.
"I.. yeah, Regina gave them to me." Cady smiled at you and you awkwardly smiled back at the mention of the girl you were seeing.
"Oh, I didn't know you guys were friends." You replied, feeling a little awkward as you turned away. Cady was part of the plastics? Maybe you had seen her with them a couple of times now that you thought about it. Huh. Little unexpected, she really didn't seem like the plastic type of girl but maybe you were wrong about her.
"Okay, let's get back into it. Continuity, removable discon- Cady, eyes up front please." Ms Norbury said," let's get back into where we were Thursday, who was awake- Thursday? Who was still awake?"
Sometime later, it was another math class. With not much interesting happening, but at one point Cady nudged you and you leaned back to look at her.
"Do you like gum?" She asked with a smile.
"Sure," You held your hand out.
"Oh, I don't have any- I was just.." She gave you an awkward smile and you smiled awkwardly back. Wondering what that was about.
Then, there was this other time. You'd complimented her shirt to be nice, Cady smiled at you and sat at her desk. "Thanks, it still smells like sausage from the last time I wore it." You turned to look at her, a little confused by her comment. Cady was an odd one, that's for sure.
When class was over, you met up with the plastics that night. Who had officially made you their girlfriend earlier that week. Things were going great and you couldn't wait until the Halloween party later the next month. And speaking of Halloween, luckily for you your black eye from a couple weeks ago was finally clearing up. So you wouldn't have to go as a sexy pirate; although you did consider the look.
Another time in Calculus, you'd forgotten what day it was. Instead of trying to wrack your brain you decided to just ask Cady about it. You turned to look at her, confusion on your face," what day is it?" You asked.
"It's October 3rd." Cady answered quickly and you smiled, thanking her before turning in your seat. Did the date just echo in your mind or were you going insane? You could have sworn you hard an ✨October 3rd✨ from somewhere.
That was almost two weeks ago, today there was another Cady moment. You were taking notes when Cady got your attention, asking you for help in her work. "I'm totally lost, can you help me?" She turned her paper to look at you, you glanced down at her work and raised an eyebrow. Cady was lost? You weren't sure how much help you'd be, but luckily you'd been paying attention during Ms Norbury's lecture this time and had some idea what to do. Or so you thought.
You pointed to her paper and looked at her, whispering back your response," it's the derivative of the natural log function. You just take the reciprocal of the LN."
Cady looked down at her work, then back at you as she smiled," thanks. You're so smart."
You laughed a little, feeling a bit sheepish at her compliment and turned to your own work. You weren't used to being described as smart and you hoped that actually helped her. It did not though, you were wrong.
Another day, you were helping Cady with the class work again. She seemed so focused on you," oh, um so it's H prime of X equals five." You explained, writing it down for her," you just forgot the Product Rule."
"I don't get any of this," Cady shook her head, Ms Norbury tossed down her test to her and you happened to get a look at the score.
"Nice job, Cady." Ms Norbury said to her, then continued handing out the papers. You raised an eyebrow at Cady. What was this girl's deal? She kept asking you for help but her grades were completely fine? You knew you weren't that good of a teacher. Something was up.
"It sure seems like you get it," You told her. Turning back to your own desk, Cady scoffed but you didn't hear it. Then the bell rang and you packed things up.
"Hey, Chris is having a Halloween party." You started to tell her as you stood, Cady was your friend. So what was the harm in inviting her? Plus, she was new. She probably hasn't had the chance to go to a house party yet," would you want to come to that?" You asked her. Cady gathered her things and looked at you, she smiled as she listened. She always smiled at you. Though you decided to explain a little further, knowing she may not have understood completely. "It's like a costume party. People get pretty into it."
"Grool." Cady said suddenly, making you pause and blink at her in confusion. Grool? She started explaining with her hands as she talked," uh- I meant to say great, and then I started to say cool."
"Okay." You laughed awkwardly, Cady was weirdly adorable sometimes. "Grool." You replied, heading out of the class.
Chris' Halloween party crept up pretty quickly; since you didn't need to go as a pirate anymore, you went as a red devil to match with Regina's angel costume. You arrived to the party on your motorcycle and parked it somewhere a bit away. Not wanting any of your fellow students to mess with it. After all, your motorcycle was basically your baby. Then headed in to meet up with the plastics. You found Regina first; she was not hard to miss and made your way over to her.
"Damn, did you fall from Heaven or what?" You couldn't help it. The line was right there, after all she was dressed as a damn angel. And looked damn good, too. You hoped you might get to take that off her tonight..
"Hey, you." Regina gave you a once over and smirked, taking in your outfit. Sexy red devil was a good look on you. Regina was clearly a few drinks in, you could tell by how flushed her cheeks were, but you didn't really care. You'd just make sure to keep a good eye on her.
Screams caught your attention and you glanced over to see Gretchen and... Cady? Damn, maybe you should have explained things better to her. You saw Regina texting someone and Gretchen replying on her phone so you assumed it was each other.
"She looks so weird," Regina told you. Smirking as she looked over at Cady, though her eyes widened a bit when she read the next text.
Gretchen; CADY LIKES Y/N
You didn't see the text but the annoyance on Regina's face was clear as day. You raised an eyebrow at her," what's up?" You asked, she rolled her eyes and scoffed.
"Nothing, shut up." Regina muttered and you sighed.
"Alright.." You knew how Regina could get sometimes, so you tried not to let it bother you. You glanced at Cady, who was walking away from Gretchen. Also looking a little upset. You wondered what was going on behind the scenes between your girlfriends and Cady. You wanted to follow after, but figured Regina probably wouldn't like that. You made an excuse instead.
"I'm going to go get a drink and see if my gang's around, I'll catch up with you." You told her and she let you go, you did go get your drink. That wasn't a lie, but you didn't look for your biker gang. Instead you ran into Cady, wanting to see how she was doing. You knew she probably wasn't used to this kind of scene.
When you found Cady again, she was helping Karen get down off a stool. You walked over and smiled," Cady!" At that same moment, Cady let go of Karen and she fell right to the ground. You rushed over and helped her up, she gave you a kiss on the cheek then bounced off to go find Gretchen. You watched her leave with a smile and turned to Cady.
"Hi!" Cady waved at you.
"Hey," You walked up to her and jokingly screamed at her outfit, thinking it was pretty cool," I like your costume. You're different from everyone else's." You assured her, remembering she looked pretty down after talking to Gretchen. Though she seemed okay enough now.
She laughed a little," I didn't know I was supposed to- ah-" She took out the fake teeth and you both laughed," I'm such a weird foreign loser."
"No, it's great. You want a drink?" You asked.
"Thanks, uh- do they have juice?" Cady asked and you tried not to laugh again. Juice?
"Juice? I can check, wait here." You told her and headed away. Regina met up with you again not too long after, just as you were getting the drinks.
"Hey, I need to talk to you." She said once she caught up, you raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Here I thought you wanted me to shut up," You teased, taking a sip of your own drink while holding Cady's. Regina's eyes went to the extra drink in your hand and she tried not to seem annoyed. Why were you being friendly with Cady? Regina had to end that.
"Oh, shut up." She said to you again.
"There it is," you smirked and she narrowed her eyes at you. You raised your hands in innocence.
"Whatever. 'Cause you know that homeschooled girl, Cady?" Regina started. Giving Cady a wave and you raised your glass to her with a smile.
"Yeah, I invited her tonight." You explained.
"Yeah, well, be careful. 'Cause she has a huge crush on you." Regina laughed, you were surprised. Cady had a crush on you? That definitely explained a lot of things.
"Really?" You put your focus on Regina, not sure how you were supposed to take that information. After all the plastics were your girls now.
"Ugh, you're my girlfriend. She's my.. friend and she's like really inexperienced and um.." Regina looked at you again," well I just don't want you talking to her."
"Regina?" You were confused by that. What was she going on about? It isn't like you really liked Cady. She wasn't your type, she was just a friend that you helped.
Regina scoffed and walked away, making you chase after her.
"Hold on a second-! I didn't even do anything?" You followed after like a lost puppy trying keep up. She walked through the crowds, crowds that seemed to almost stand still and sway under her command. Making it hard for you to get to her.
By the time you'd finally caught up to her, Regina'd backed you against the wall. Walking closer to you with a smirk, clearly trying to make some possessive show on you in front of Cady. "God, you're hot.. why do you even where a shirt?" You'd heard her mutter, making your cheeks flush," damn, you're fine.."
She leaned in close, her hands resting to your hips as she pulled you flush against her. Regina didn't waste any time; her lips were moving against yours in a matter of seconds. Her tongue slipped past and you vaguely heard someone gasp in the crowd but you hardly cared. Regina George was kissing you.
My headcanons on Punch-out Wii names...
To be honest, I just went through Google and search up names… like German names for babies- something that sounds similar to their boxer names like 'Bear' to 'Bruce'😂
Little Mac = Marcus Antoñio Plazas
I know it doesn't sound very Italian buuttt... it oddly fitting
Glass Joe = Joseph Girard
Joseph since the fandom calls him that... and Girard is for 'Glass' and it means "brave spear" or "strong spear". Since I see Joe as someone that loses in competitions but not in life.
Von Kaiser = Friedhelm Kaiser
Friedhelm is a masculine German name meaning "peace helmet" or "one who protects the peace". It is derived from the Old High German words "fridu" (peace) and "helm" (helmet). Several people with the name Friedhelm have achieved prominence in various fields, including sports, business, and academia...
Get it cuz he's a soldier
Disco Kid = Jonny Kristopher Discon
Am I the only one that sees Disco Kid as a Jonny? I don't know why...
Like he'd have so much energy as a Kid so his mom would yell "Jonny!!"
King Hippo = Kai Kaipo Hiilani
Felt odd keeping Hippo so mysterious so I searched up some Hawaiian names and these sounded nice for a King...
Like "His Majesty, King Kai Kaipo Hiilani!!"
Piston Hondo = Hitana Honda Piston
Very original I know lol... but uh- since in the wiki it says he's 'an altruist who boxes to raise money to build hospitals and schools in poor parts of the country' I thought why not his father be some sort of a mechanic that know the struggles of life and Honda honors his family name... by boxing.
also Honda since the hole name mix up and for the car brand.
Bear Hugger = Bruce Woodstone
Same with Disco kid, he looks like a Bruce...
'Woodstone' is more random since I was thinking of Ninjago for a moment and got the idea from Cole Brookstone - Woodstone lol
Also his bear companion would be name Coach... Coach the Bear. Since it shows the bear teaching him.
And his squirrel friend would be Boxy... Boxy the squirrel, since its boxing with him.
Great Tiger = Gaurav Trivedi
Derived from the Sanskrit गौरव (gaurava), Gaurav translates to "importance," "pride," "honor," and "dignity."
I don't know really... was searching for what language Tiger speaks in and somewhere else it said Sanskrit but it was actually Hindi, I keep it since its sounds fitting 'Gaurav' - 'Great'
In Sanskrit, Tri = 'three' and Vedi = 'to see'. Therefore, a Trivedi is one with 'three-fold vision', or someone who is able to see into the past, present, and future. The spiritual connotation is that a Trivedi is a master of time and can see into the past and future.
Not comfy with theses type's of subjects but yeah... get it since the clone things he does in game... 'Trivedi' - 'Tiger'
Don Flamenco = Don Fernando Felipe Francisco Florero Flamenco
Sorry had to... having such a long ass name that you'd yell when he's doing something wrong.
Aran Ryan = Aran Ronald Ryan
He was lazy and didn't think of a name for his boxing career so he just took off his father's name and done.
Soda Popinski = Dominik Son Drunkenski
A youtube video on unused stuff were a older looking Soda stands there doing nothing... so thought why not make it his father from Super Punch Out on the arcade... named his Dominik to be unique
Bald Bull = Bülent Bulison
Didn't have an idea so I went with the fist name that sounded close to 'Bull'...
'Bulison' was made by me taking inspiration on Soda that had 'Son' Drunkenski
Super Macho Man = Tony GoldenStone
'Tony' cuz he reminded me of 'Tony Stark' I mean both rich, sleping with women, fighting something, having paparazzi...
GoldenStone is mine since of the gold tooth and uh- may or may not have a large famous family.
Mr. Sandman = Michael 'Mike' Fostersand
'Mike' for you know dear old Tyson... Fostersand for 'Sand'man
and uh yeah that's all lol
...
Also Also... First post!
MY LITTLE PONY FT. MARCH 7TH pairing: march 7th x f!reader content // established relationship, best friends, gf! march, my little pony ???, pure fluff
you think you've been through all of march's antics until she brought up, "what kind of my little pony i would be name?" you furrowed your brow in confusion,
"what?"
"my little pony, name."
oh, now you remember. my little pony was some cartoon on one of the planets march and the astral express had explored. since march's favorite hobbies consisted of photography and being a cute girl, it fit right in with, my little pony just became a part of her personality.
she believes she would be a really cute unicorn pony with a blue, pink and white camera as a tattoo stamp. wait, no, if march could hear your inner thoughts, she would correct you on the usage of the mark, it's called a "cutie mark".
"isn't there like quizzes of these?" you asked, laying down on her bed as she bounced onto the bed, making you linger in the air for a moment.
"i mean, yeah, but i wanna know your answer, name!!" march cried, her hair sprawled all over her bed. you propped your head on your hand,
"im not sure. can you show me the ponies and what they look like?" immediately, march's face lit up, jumping up. she opened her phone and showed you. it's all over her current wallpaper. "this one-" a pink pony with curly hair and balloons on her leg, "is pinkie pie. she's one of my favorites." she scrolled and told you the lore behind my little pony as well as the main six and how she hates how cadence's baby is literally an alicorn.
"so... which one is me?"
"i would say, an earth pony?"
her face was so shocked, she began to wilt like a rose.
dude i had a dream that we got another portal game where wheatley comes crashing back down to earth and somehow both him and chell end up in another dysfunctional science facility run by an angry robot, who went mad after a lack of proper maintenance and now runs the facility almost as bad as wheatley ran aperture, that they have to escape. chell fends up finding a very damaged wheatley, barely alive in a room full full of the facility's reject cores. chell uploads wheatley's consciousness to the body of an unprogrammed core, and they set off. during the whole thing, wheatley keeps trying to make it very clear that he's sorry for what happened, and does everything in his power to help chell out.
in the boss fight with the big guy, we see that he has he has somewhat of a humanoid frame, connected to the ceiling by the back with a bunch of wires and circuitry, and is red with rust, from living isolated from the rest of the facility, simply because the task of tending to him was too dangerous of a job for anyone, and the very few staff still alive in the facility had no idea how to shut him down.
his attacks were mostly melee in the first to second wave, utilizing a giant claw hand at chell, which would either try to crush chell by slamming it down from above her, swinging it at her from the side, or try to grab her by the head to crush her.
he would only use one ranged attack in the first to second wave, which were homing missiles that you had to throw back at him. think undertale mad dummy but 3d (you don't get a portal gun so there are some different mechanics, not really "portal" is it then?)
the third and final wave would add electric shock type attacks, big guy weaponizing his own decaying body in a pitiful attempt to take chell down. also lazers. lots of lazers.
chell would do the usual 'throwing the bosses projectiles back at them', while wheatley messes with big guy's controls while he's out to try and weaken him, accidentally making him stronger after the second time big guy gets knocked out.
if you manage to survive the last wave and take him out, big guy explodes, and an ominous 60 second timer comes on the intercom, along the lines of "central core discone-(garbled)-truct initiated in 60.. 59.. 58.." giving you just enough time to grab wheatley before the timer ends, which gives you an option between two endings.
if you chose to use the time to grab wheatley before making a break for it, the counter will end only a few seconds after you make it to him, and you get a sick ass parkour sequence with the facility crumbling and burning behind you as you make a break for the emergency escape pods. once you make it to the end, you get a cutscene of wheatley and chell riding the escape pod to the surface, having a bit of a heart to heart moment with wheatley, him thanking chell for not being mad with him, even if chell doesn't talk. well, you get the option to, by pressing space, (getting you an achievement called "it can talk!?")a little callback to the beginning of portal 2. you reach the surface, getting you the "forgiveness" achievent, and the game ends. congratulations on your marrige, chell
if you choose to leave without him, you can hear him worriedly saying things along the lines of "what are you doing? where are going?" before realizing you're leaving him behind and starts panicking. as the door to the escape pod closes, you get an achievement called "coward's way out" as you hear a distant "don't leave me, DON'T LEAVE ME!" further guilting you for being a greedy achievement hunter, you monster. In the escape pod, you get a whole minute of of uninterrupted silence before arriving at the surface, earning you the "you know what you are? selfish." achievement, before ending the game.
there would also be a shadow achievement where you do absolutely nothing and wait for the self destruct counter to finish, killing the both of you.
ok, most of this wasn't in the dream, i just started getting ideas
(edit: i just had the idea that chell was in a similar kind of situation to ratman, where she was an employee at this facility, working in robotics when uh oh spaghettios all her coworkers are dead and she's stuck in hiding from the giant robot running the facility)
#poot's feather and ink#portal#portal 2#portal chell#portal 2 wheatley#chelley#< kinda#i encourage anyone who's interested to write a fic about this
Jamil knew something was up when Yuu insisted he visit Ramshackle Dorm. He trudged through the fresh snow, untouched by the few students or staff who had stayed on campus during the winter break. He didn’t envy the prefect—his numb nose made him thankful for Scarabia Dorm’s consistent heat.
By the time he reached Ramshackle Dorm, the tips of his ears were equally numb and the fabric of his sneakers were soaked through. He kicked off the remnants of snow from his shoes and knocked on the door. He had to knock a few more times before Yuu finally answered.
“Hello!” Yuu gasped, sounding out of breath. Her cheeks were a ruddy red, and her short hair was disheveled. She leaned against the door frame like she was blocking his view. “Give me one second.”
She slammed the door in his face before he could respond. Jamil blinked. He lifted a hand to knock again, but the sound of Yuu’s voice on the other side of the door made him stop. “You can’t make it that obvious! Put it there. Yes, there!”
When Yuu came back to the door, her cheeks were still red and her hair even more disheveled like she had combed it with her fingers. Jamil quirked one brow. “Should I come back later?”
“No.” Yuu opened the door wider and waved him inside. “Come in.”
He stepped inside and waited for her to catch her breath. The sound of disembodied laughter was muffled by the walls, and Jamil assumed she had been shouting at the ghosts of Ramshackle. He loosely crossed his arms. “So why did you message me until I finally agreed to leave Kalim unsupervised for an undisclosed length of time?”
Yuu’s nose slightly wrinkled. “The fact that you answered at four in the morning is exactly why I insisted. You should have been resting.”
“I was resting. Your message woke me up.”
“You should’ve ignored it then.”
“That would be rude.”
Jamil smirked when her nose wrinkled more. Knowing she couldn’t win the argument, Yuu pointed at the kitchen door. “Get in the kitchen.”
Jamil’s eyes widened. “Excuse me?”
“I want breakfast.” Yuu grabbed the cuff of his jacket and dragged him towards the kitchen. The muffled laughs of the ghosts followed them. “You can make it.”
“I’m honored that you woke me up at four in the morning, ordered me to come here three hours later, and forced me to make you breakfast. My life was incomplete before I met you.”
“My morning is incomplete without proper nutrition.”
Jamil rolled his eyes and allowed her to drag him through the hall into the kitchen. He ran a critical eye across the space. He wasn’t expecting ruby-encrusted counters or golden utensils, but it would have been nice to have a leveled counter or an oven that wouldn’t burn down the dorm. He was almost scared to look in the refrigerator. The appliance looked like it cultivated more mold than preserved food.
He took two steps through the doorway when a sharp tug pulled him back. Jamil sighed and twisted just enough to face Yuu. “What are you...”
“Oh, no,” Yuu interrupted. The flat inflection in her voice stopped Jamil. Yuu stared at the top of the doorframe. “We have walked under the mistletoe.”
Jamil followed her gaze. A sprig of green leaves and small pale green berries hung from the top of the doorframe. Jamil slowly blinked, and the continuous noise of the ghosts snickering through the walls became background noise.
Yuu shook her head. Nothing in her expression read as shock or surprise. “Those darn ghosts and their pranks. I guess we will have to suffer the consequences.”
Jamil immediately understood Yuu’s plan. He smirked. It may not have been a custom in the Scalding Sands, but he had researched it after a fiasco with mistletoe in Scarabia Dorm last year. The thought of being forced to kiss someone after walking beneath a plant was both silly and a little disconcerting to him, but it seemed overall harmless.
Yuu just made the mistake of waking him up too early today.
Jamil made a show of slowly blinking and kept his expression as blank as possible. He hummed and tipped his chin back to observe the mistletoe. “Suffer what consequences? It looks like a harmless plant. Did the ghosts curse it?”
Jamil could tell by the way her brow furrowed that his lack of understanding threw off her planned performance. She shifted her posture and lightly tugged on his sleeve. “You know...it’s mistletoe.”
Jamil hummed and cupped his chin. “Ah, mistletoe. I have heard of that plant. It is poisonous to humans, but the effects are relatively mild compared to other toxic plants. The common symptoms are usually gastrointestinal irritation when consumed. Unless the ghosts plan to toss it into the food when our backs are turned, we should be fine.”
He had to fight to maintain his clinical tone when Yuu only looked more confused. She tipped her head back to stare up at the plant again, only she looked more concerned now. “It’s actually poisonous? Like...all of it?”
Jamil nodded, maintaining his grave air. "Yes. The leaves, stem, berries—all of it contains a toxic substance called phoratoxin.”
“Eating only a few berries shouldn’t do much harm,” Yuu slowly said. “Howie said it was perfectly safe.”
Jamil dropped all his teasing. He grabbed Yuu by the shoulders and steered her towards the sink. “Are you serious? Why would you just eat something you knew nothing about? Even Kalim has more sense than that!”
“The ghosts said it was fine,” Yuu insisted. She leaned against the counter while Jamil searched a nearby cabinet for a glass. He filled the glass with water and handed it to Yuu, mentally flipping through poisoning protocol he had memorized. Yuu grabbed his forearm instead of the glass he offered and pulled him closer to her. “Nothing that can’t be solved with a kiss.”
Jamil froze. Yuu stared up at him, eyes unblinking and expression as serious as he’d ever seen. Jamil narrowed his eyes. “Did you seriously just lie about eating poisonous berries?”
Yuu’s eyes dramatically widened, and her slow blinks were just as exaggerated. “Did I lie?” She grabbed the collar of his jacket and pulled him down until they were nose-to-nose with each other. “Or did I just improvise because you wanted to play dumb and pretend you had no idea what walking under mistletoe meant? I mean, surely I don’t need to spell it out to you any clearer.”
Jamil shook his head. As annoyed as he was, he couldn’t help being impressed. If he hadn’t seen her genuine confusion, he could almost believe she had anticipated his every move. Her quick thinking may have been more impressive. “I was seriously concerned.”
“That’s fine. You can be concerned when I’m not poisoned too.”
Jamil chuckled. He leaned forward to close the distance between them. He watched Yuu’s eyelids flutter closed. He shifted at the very last second, lips landing on her cheek. He leaned back and smirked when she glared at him. “I better start on that breakfast so you can have your proper nutrition.”
Yuu huffed and took the glass of water to dump it back into the sink. Ramshackle’s ghosts, who had fallen silent without Jamil noticing, started their raucous laughter again. Jamil hummed while he threw together a quick breakfast for them. Something bounced off the side of his head while he sautéed some vegetables, but he wasn’t given a chance to react before Yuu placed a quick kiss on his cheek ran from the kitchen.
Jamil didn’t bother explaining his absence to Kalim when he finally returned to the dorm later that evening.
The Script of Patriarchy
It’s Not Men vs. Women — it’s Patriarchy vs. Feminism
By Ishwari Nitalikar @existential-crisis-only
When we speak of patriarchy, it’s often framed as a top-down structure that oppresses women while privileging men. But this view is incomplete. I’ve come to see patriarchy not just as an external system, but as a set of internalized scripts — scripts that contour the male psyche in subtle yet profound ways. This is not just about cultural norms around stoicism or dominance. This is about attachment trauma, emotional dysregulation, ego fragility, and the way patriarchal values hijack both psychological development and evolutionary traits. This essay seeks to uncover the deeper psychological impacts patriarchy has on men — particularly the ones we don’t notice because we’ve been taught to see them as “natural.”
I. Evolutionary Mismatch: From Adaptation to Alienation
Evolutionary psychology tells us that traits and behaviors once adaptive can become maladaptive in mismatched environments. In ancestral contexts, traits associated with masculinity — competition, dominance, in-group defense — may have increased survival odds. But patriarchy freezes these behaviors into rigid ideals, requiring men to perform them in every social setting, regardless of relevance or utility.
This has led to heightened male reactivity to perceived status threats. Men are more likely to interpret ambiguous social cues as challenges, correlating with aggression and defensiveness. Patriarchy magnifies this reactive tendency, turning what might have once been a survival advantage into a barrier to intimacy and self-regulation.
II. Attachment and the “Emotionally Starved” Boy
Attachment theory reveals how patriarchy shapes emotional development early in life. Infant boys are, counterintuitively, more emotionally expressive than girls. Yet they receive less physical affection, less verbal soothing, and are more likely to be left to self-soothe — often under the guise of “toughening them up.”
This can lead to avoidant attachment styles, where vulnerability feels dangerous and expressing emotional need leads to shame. Over time, this fosters alexithymia — difficulty identifying and describing feelings — which is disproportionately observed in men. What looks like emotional detachment is often early relational trauma, misread as personality.
III. The Ego Armor: Male Identity as Compensation
Men are not just discouraged from emotional depth — they are actively rewarded for constructing a performative version of themselves. Masculinity becomes a fragile identity structure: based not on presence or internal coherence, but on performance, productivity, and control.
Psychologically, this is contingent self-esteem: an ego reliant on external validation. Any perceived failure — whether financial, romantic, or social — doesn’t just feel like a loss; it feels like an existential threat. The result is often narcissistic injury, emotional dysregulation, or withdrawal masked as independence.
IV. Dysregulated Nervous Systems and Somatization
In men, psychological distress often shows up somatically — in the body rather than through verbal expression. Because emotions like sadness or fear are socially policed, especially in childhood, the nervous system learns to bypass them. The fight-or-flight system stays activated far longer than it should.
Over time, this creates patterns of chronic stress: hypertension, gastrointestinal problems, fatigue, and sleep disorders. Clinically, many men present with these issues while describing themselves as “fine.” Patriarchy trains the male body to mute signals of vulnerability, even when those signals are critical to well-being.
V. Eroticism and the Psychosexual Double Bind
Patriarchal narratives around male sexuality are both hyper-visible and deeply misleading. Men are expected to be dominant, unfeeling, and constantly aroused — yet not emotionally invested. This reduces sex to performance and control, while disconnecting it from emotional intimacy.
Many men use sex to access emotional closeness — often without realizing it. But because emotional need is stigmatized, especially in men, this desire is rerouted through conquest or compulsive behavior. When eroticism becomes the only socially accepted form of connection, sexual dysfunction, addiction, and loneliness often follow.
VI. The Tragedy of Male Friendship and Relational Deprivation
Developmental psychology shows that boys are capable of deep emotional friendships. But by mid-adolescence, these bonds are often stripped of intimacy due to homophobic or hypermasculine conditioning. Boys are taught to fear emotional closeness with other boys — framing it as “weak” or suspicious.
By adulthood, many men have lost the ability to maintain emotionally honest friendships. Their romantic partners often become their only source of intimacy — placing an unhealthy emotional burden on those relationships. This emotional isolation is a risk factor for depression, addiction, and suicide.
VII. Social Death: Nonconforming Men and the Loss of Belonging
Men who don’t conform to dominant ideals — queer men, disabled men, trans men, neurodivergent men — often experience a form of social erasure. They are either excluded from full participation in patriarchal masculinity, or expected to overperform it to prove legitimacy.
This produces a constant state of psychological tension. Men on the margins are often forced to navigate conflicting pressures: to appear strong, to suppress pain, to disown softness. These conditions can foster internalized shame, chronic anxiety, and a distorted sense of self.
Conclusion: It’s Not Men vs. Women — it’s Patriarchy vs. Feminism
What this exploration makes clear is that patriarchy doesn’t only oppress women — it fundamentally distorts the emotional, relational, and psychological development of men. It builds rigid identities, promotes emotional illiteracy, and punishes vulnerability. But crucially, this is not a zero-sum equation. The damage men experience under patriarchy is not caused by women or by feminism — it is the result of a system that uses control, dominance, and fear to organize human life.
The narrative of “men vs. women” is itself a patriarchal tool, designed to obscure the real conflict: patriarchy vs. feminism. Feminism, contrary to how it’s often misrepresented, is not about the reversal of oppression — it’s about dismantling the conditions that produce oppression in the first place. Feminism demands that women be seen as full people. But it also offers men the radical possibility of being whole people — emotionally fluent, relationally connected, and psychologically integrated.
Liberation, then, is not about one group winning over another. It is about recognizing that both men and women have been confined — differently, but deeply — by the same system. Patriarchy is not the natural state of being. It is a script. And like all scripts, it can be rewritten.
Nature could not die.
Of this, she was assured. Things could die, creatures which would leave behind corpses to then be consumed by the earth, but nature remained. Even should all life expire, water would continue to shape rock and fires would still lick the air. Storms would ever rage across the sky, albeit silently, with no one left to hear them.
Though, of course, the same was once thought of gods.
Gaea, Deus, and Death deserved respect as the last of their kind, even kinship (should kinship be possible with gods) for bearing a tragedy shared now by so many, but there can be no worship where there is pity. Her people instead deciphered the patterns of the earth and tended to it like a death doula…or a dutiful child unwilling to betray their parent for the hardships it put on them. When a river turned brackish and foul, they followed it for miles to its mouth so it might tell them why. When all wind inexplicably stopped in the plains, they performed funeral rites for its last breath. Dying was an ugly, selfish thing which demanded the attention of those around it, and this thankless task was carried out for generations as organ by organ, bone by bone, the planet failed them.
Above Discon were the stars, unseen though they were beyond the choking smog. She recalled dreaming of them when she was young, those soft and iridescent things. They seemed mercifully indifferent in comparison to the hostility of a dying planet, neither here nor there, mortal nor divine. It would be they who observed the final death throes of this planet, and in this she found kinship also.
An odd thing, to long for something never known, but her heart carried the comfort they brought even now, after it all.
She led a good life, honoring herself, her family, her clan. Married a man that would go on to become their leader. Had a child, and a child again. And then one day, the stars which she dreamt of so often began to dream of her.
A vain notion, but the only way she could describe the feeling of patterns being drawn on the backs of her sleeping eyelids. Look at this, look at this. Constellations, she knew they were called, which told stories and futures alike in the old times. Look at this. Incessant, night after night, until the shape finally revealed itself. Yes…she looked and saw. Fires sparking across a forest, see how their canopies clustered high above, and the smoke above them still. Her people were traveling through a forest soon. But, this fire, when? Soon? Now? Already passed? Look at this. The stars grew incrementally closer each night, and so she urged her husband forward, faster, tracking those ever-looming lights. Anything non-essential was delayed, and some in the group laughed at her husband for allowing himself to be directed by his wife’s monthly hysteria.
And then, once the stars were hung directly above her and the trees were a far smear of color behind them, a crack descended from the heavens, and the forest lifted up its flames in return.
No one suspected anything, particularly when she, despite her insistence to hurry, was as surprised as anyone. No one but her husband asked, just the once.
He must not have believed her when she said she didn’t know, because he never asked about it again. He just quietly accepted the advice that the stars allowed her, and they both pretended it was nothing more than her acute survival instincts and womanly intuition. Life continued…as much as life could. She lost a child. Had another. Years passed. Stars came and went. And the world crept a little further into its grave.
Poor, overworked Death.
She woke with a headache and dry mouth. Eyes still closed, she could tell that her husband was awake next to her on their shared mat. He was waiting, hoping, for a direction to go that would take them from this drought, but her eyelids had remained dark. It was cowardly of her, but she rolled to her side away from him. The stars pulled from her, she pulled from her husband, and he… She was the only person who saw the strain that leadership put on him. He couldn’t let their clan see the indecision that chewed on him in private, because a half-hearted decision was as good as no decision at all, so he said. Even if they were to die, they could assure themselves that they had died having done all they could, so he said. Admirable, in its own way, and she, his wife, was supposed to be his support to bear it. But how could she speculate when he was expecting answers? He had come to rely on her direction, and its sudden absence created a gulf between them. When he finally rose with a sigh, it was all she could do to swallow her guilt and misgivings and join his side.
It was a tricky thing, water. Starvation could make meals out of many indecent options, but one could not alchemize water from nothing. Some might, some could. She had heard of those who receive magicks in return for their care for the world, but her husband was no such man. Too much pity, perhaps, or too much fear. And so they remained dependent on mercy and luck, both gods of which had long since left them. Every day she rationed out their depleting water stores, and every day, her husband marked their levels with an exacting eye. It itched, his disappointment which day by day turned to resentment.
And then at last, a miracle. Water burbling up from the rocks.
Have you ever been desperate?
It has been said that one cannot “be” happy so much as “experience” happiness. Collect happy moments, if you will, but it does not become you, nor you it. Many can attest to the truth of this, especially here, but desperation is much greedier. It can bend any iron spin and fell the strongest heart, and makes reasonable people very, very stupid. They hadn’t found some secret treasure, and there was a reason that no other animals were here. And if they hadn’t been so desperate, they wouldn’t have been surprised when they started to get sick. Die.
Poor, overworked- You get it.
She was, once again, as shocked as anyone, but her husband didn’t believe her before and didn’t now.
This decisive man tallied the dead, and he had a long memory.
Why did you, my wife, not realize something was amiss?
How could I have known?
Certainly, how could you have known. And so why did you once lead us toward a flood that nearly swept us away, taking many supplies with it?
An illness, there was an epidemic the other direction.
And when meteors scorched the air we breathed, bludgeoning the earth? Several people were infirm after.
A madness had taken hold of the nearby town; they would have killed us.
The ice storm that raged over them? Did we not lose some of ours in the whiteout?
Undead, which howled louder than any wind.
And what of this poisoned water, wife.
How could she have known?
How could she not?
Their clan was shocked, horrified by the revelation, and demanded to know the veracity of her visions. What illness, what undead? Justify your meddling in your husband’s leadership. It was insane to think that she would have to contrive disasters to find them, but they’d grown dependent on her guidance and had forgotten how hard it was without. Suspicion was festering. Her husband had to convince their people that he was not led astray, because if they no longer allowed themselves to be led by him, they would all die. Something had to be done…and is it not a woman’s lot to take on the burdens of her husband?
They finally came for her in the early morning. She had been kept separate from her husband, lest her corrupting influence continue. Her dreams, her stars, her guardians watched her from afar. This is not the end the end the end.
What else could be done? Banishment would be too slow, too cruel, and corpses were too susceptible to corruption.
This is not.
She thought of that first vision, with fire and smoke rising into the sky.
The end.
~ ~ ~
Graveyards are not empty.
It’s easy to see in retrospect, but when the gods were dying, many, myself included, expected a power vacuum of sorts to open up in their place. It was embarrassingly short-sighted, really, because instead, things closed in; just vacuum, no power. The three remaining stalwarts absorbed what could be absorbed, and the rest? Lost into the aether, I suppose.
There are fewer of us around, too. It’s difficult to keep track of what happened to them all, but I suspect that some of them went off to chase that divine power as if it could be found like the marbles mortals once played with, and they were never to be heard from again. Idiots. There was the slim chance that they were fabulously right and were now gorging themselves on the corpses of gods and dictating some distant world…but more likely, they destroyed themselves in whatever killed the gods in the first place.
The rest of us, meanwhile, had to put in work the honest way. There was desperation abound, make no mistake, but it could be difficult to make a meaningful offer to a person who believes that they will be the last generation to breathe on this planet. And people had been believing that for generations. They were exhausting, neither willing to commit to staying nor commit to ending it for good, so they let themselves be pushed along toward the next great cataclysm, ad nauseam, forever and on, till death do we part, amen. One had to be clever and quick on opportunities to make a contract worth anything.
This one, however, fairly leaped into my lap…or would have, had she not been tied to a blazing fire.
Call me lazy, but I never bothered with the innumerable little insular clans that peppered the world. I liked them urban; envy remained a fantastic motivator, even at the end of the world, and cult followers tended to let themselves be just too convinced of their own insignificance and inevitability. They called me invasive or unnatural, some of them even blaming me for their catastrophe du jour, which was flattering but not always helpful. Studying the scene in front of me, however, I could see that I had neglected the loophole of internal politics. From the words of the solemnly robed man with a staff - no doubt very impressive to his little flock - this old woman was supposed to be some sort of infernal consort. How quaint! When had a mortal last had anything of real substance to offer? Still, even in the small pond of this planet, I was far from the biggest fish, so I made a lap around her to be sure that there wasn’t anything I should be wary of interfering with, and found nary a shiver of otherworldly contact.
But, speak of the devil, as they say.
I stepped into the fire so that she might better hear me over her pained screams.
“Excuse me, ma’am.”
She rasped and jerked her body toward the sound of my voice.
“You look in need of assistance.”
“Help me.” A good, commanding voice that skipped past the superfluous “Who are you?” and “What’s going on?” I could easily see her place next to the robed man.
“A brilliant idea, and just what I was hoping to do. It will take some doing, however. What might you be able to promise me-”
Anything!”
Not anything I needed. Not anything I wished. Anything was a beautiful, bold word. Whether or not she had anything was besides the point, I had all the time she didn’t.
“Then let us make this official, my dear.” I reached a hand to her elbow to guide her down and let the bindings fall away. Noises of surprise, anger, and fear swelled behind me, but before she could throw herself from the flames, I tightened my hold.
“Your word, pet.”
“I-” she choked. Smoke and pain had almost overtaken her, but there was no mistake in the power of my grip nor the threat in my voice that I would just as soon put her back. Desperation alone carried her long enough to choke out, “...I- I give you my…my word.”
“Well done. Now sleep.” And in an instant, she fell out of the fire and into my arms.
"Soundwave superior. Quintessons inferior."
Soundwave, Megatron's brutally effective enforcer! Preferring to let his Discons handle the spy work, Soundwave is Megatron's most trusted lieutenant, intel officer, and personal bodyguard. He's not exactly a violent sort, but if fighting needs to happen, he's an utter tank, between his powerful servos and his sound-based powers. Using the wheels on his forearms as a DJ turntable and the ones on his shins as speakers, he can unleash devastating sonic attacks, when he's not reading minds and modulating his voice to mimic others. He has a bit of a chill DJ vibe, able to remove his cannon from his back and use it as a microphone for his speakers. He has just enough evidence to start distrusting the Quintessons, though not enough to bring to Megatron. He holds no active hatred for the Autobots, seeing his bodyguard status as just a job. With the growl of Frank Welker and the modulation of Transformers: Animated, Soundwave's booming voice is enough to strike fear into even Optimus Prime.
"FRENZY, RAVAGE, RUMBLE, LASERBEAK, EJECT. OPERATION: INTELLIGENCE."
Seeing as this is Cybertron, the 'Cassetticons' have no need for disguise, and their altmodes are thus more similar to ease-of-carrying compression modes. All four can fit into Soundwave's chest at once, to boot!
Frenzy (RED) and Rumble (BLUE) are true twinsparks, born from a mutation in the AllSpark that caused one spark to divide into two. Closer twins than any battle-bonded bots, these two practically share one mind, and as such one goal; serve Soundwave, but primarily, serve the Decepticon cause. While they're more than happy to handle spy work, they'd much prefer causing active mayhem with the extendable pile drivers on their arms, and will take nearly any opportunity to do so without getting in trouble for insubordination. The two are also voiced by Frank Welker.
Ravage is a simple, soft-spoken sort. An expert in stealth, blending into the shadows and frequently deactivating her optics just to blend in that much more, she lives for the thrill of the hunt. Begrudgingly handling combat, she'd much prefer to sneak about, prowling for info and valuable resources in the Autobot base. Rumble and Frenzy like to joke that she may as well BECOME an Autobot, since she spends so much time in their base. Ravage has considered it, merely as an infiltration tactic, but decided she'd much prefer staying out of sight altogether. Ravage is played by Wendy Malick.
Laserbeak is even more simple than Ravage. Unable to speak outside of a parrot-like mimicking of people's spoken words, Laserbeak is nonetheless incredibly intelligent. Striking a nice balance between eyes-in-the-sky and lasers from above, so long as Laserbeak gets to serve Soundwave, and by extension Megatron, he's more than happy to do whatever it takes.
