Verde was really like 'I know that mental breakdown anywhere!'
Dudes, I swear I'm still working on this.
Work and irl stuff have been kicking my ass. But I will finish this one day.
Also I didn't mean to make that one colour page look like the spiderverse, it just kinda happened.
That small flashback was to the battle between Juliana and Kieran over who got to be Ogerpons new trainer. Verde recognised Kieran first because he spent more time with him. Ogerpon knew him for less then a day.
If I'm honest, I'm not too happy with this. The reason why it's so disjointed is because I couldn't figure out how I wanted this part of the story to go. I definitely wanted Kieran's Identity to get out pretty quickly because he's like 14, there's no way a mentally unstable child would be able to keep this a secret for long.
Also small fun fact, Verde has scars on his back because I somehow forgot meowscarada have that weird leaf cape thing, so I had to make up a reason why he doesn't have them. He got that injury as a floragato causing his cape to never properly form after he evolved.
Also he is best big bro.
Other fun fact, the original draft was going to have Ogerpon think Kieran was either Pecharunt in disguise or one of it's minions. It would have lead to Verde and Ogerpon getting into an argument and her having a mental breakdown. I changed it because the conversation started to draw away from Kieran as he awkwardly watched it all go down. Also Verde was too much of an immature asshole and wasn't fun to write.
This is all that exists of that draft.

Your Soul’s Hidden Superpower 🌟
Happy reading kind souls :)
Pile 1
During the reading , I couldn't help but notice the significance of the order of cards - futility (Seven of Swords) to gain (Nine of Disks) followed by sorrow (Three of Swords) to success (Six of Disks). Your soul carries the rare alchemy of transmuting pain into power. Much like an athlete who trusts their body to adapt and thrive, your spirit embodies flexibility, endurance, and flow. Even when sorrow strikes or plans seem futile, you possess an innate magic to reroute the energy — turning heartbreak into wisdom, losses into victories, and obstacles into stepping stones. The Prince of Wands and Princess of Cups together show your fearless passion combined with emotional depth — a rare, potent combination. Even when clarity feels out of reach (Ace of Swords reversed), and challenges seem heavy (Seven of Swords, Three of Swords), your spirit never fully gives up. Instead, you faithfully trust your own wings, not the branches you sit upon.Like the bird that knows it can fly even if the branch breaks, your faith in yourself, your adaptability, and your resilience is your greatest hidden gift. No experience is wasted in your journey. You embody the soul alchemy of turning wounds into wisdom, and uncertainty into unstoppable faith.
Pile 2
During this reading, I noticed a strong presence of reversed cards, and the words “turning tables” and “phoenix” immediately came to mind. It felt as though your soul doesn’t just survive chaos — it rises from it, stronger and brighter. Your hidden superpower is the ability to flip the narrative when everything seems uncertain or stacked against you. You embody the phoenix energy — not only surviving the fire but using it as fuel for your rebirth. The Moon reversed and Fortune show that even when the path is unclear or deceptive, your destiny shifts in your favor when you trust yourself. Even through betrayal or mental battles (Five of Swords), you ignite your inner fire (Queen of Wands), reclaim your confidence, and move forward. The presence of the Star reversed, Chariot reversed, and Hierophant reversed reveals that your breakthroughs often happen not when you follow the "normal" path, but when you break free from old systems, old expectations, and trust your own inner light instead. You don't fear crumbling structures — because you know how to build new worlds from the ashes. From disillusionment (Moon reversed) to trusting destiny (Fortune), From loss and betrayal (Five of Swords) to personal empowerment (Queen of Wands),From delays and doubt (Star/Chariot/Hierophant reversed) to creating your own path. You are not meant to blend in. You are meant to rise, to disrupt, to turn the tables — and to remind the world what true rebirth looks like.

The disk horse about "x person makes me uncomfortable" reminds me of an encounter i had in a public bathroom last week, where a bunch of cis women were loudly discussing how Uncomfortable and Fucked Up it would be if there was a Trans woman in there with them. Like, if there were, would it be her job to make those women more comfortable? (Obviously not, but it's exactly that kind of thinking that leads to all kinds of -phobias and -isms)
You know it's interesting because on my post a whole bunch of:
>trans women and trans fems
>trans men and trans mascs
>intersex people of all stripes
>black people of all stripes
>nonblack marginalized races of a wide assortment
All commented on that post stating that they have seen these parallels too and that it has always bothered them, but the pushback they get when they mentioned it has always exceeded the worth of continuing to bother trying. The trans people and especially the trans women all stated that these parallels were a significant contributing factor to delaying their eggs cracking and then pursuing transition and coming out, and a few mentioned this is why they are not out irl.
Which was my point. People think that stating "your presence makes me uncomfortable and I should be allowed to not be near you as a result, so you need to leave/not be in here" is a neutral and justifiable thing to say... and they refuse to listen when those who have had this directly stated to their face have been harmed by this logic.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX Episode 126 Subbed (Finalized)
(Previously: Episodes 124-125 Subbed [Finalized])
(Check out my Subbed!GX Stream Masterpost!)
TURN-126: Judai VS Manjoume -- Dark Sword the Dragon Knight
Judai pursues Martin as he heads towards where the three Phantasms have been locked away--only to find the zombified Manjoume standing in his way. As Manjoume refuses to make way for him, Judai ultimately duels him, with Manjoume summoning Return Zombie and Blood Vorse as he pounces on Judai. Elsewhere, having learned that Johan and co.'s duels were a ruse, the students rush inside to get to where the food is, but they are beaten by the zombie students, causing most of the students to have now become zombies. Just then, at the power-generator area, O'Brien hears a transmission from someone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
126 is now finalized! Just a quick 'un this time since I ran a bit late with myself for GX work--got a bit caught up in some interesting TFSP stuff along with my round of story-translation with Kite's story events lol--and since episodes 127-128 and 129-130 lead into each other pretty well, I thought I'd just work on 126 this time as a bit of a calm before the storm. And it does offer that vibe, as we get Martin dashing for the three Phantasms--remember them?--and Judai in hot pursuit, only for a zombie Manjoume to get in his way. The Dark Sword the Dark Demon Realm Dragon Knight (Dark Blade the Dragon Knight--OCG name be long here) he pulls out is kinda neat, its only having one appearance aside, while the conversation that Misawa has with Zweinstein later gives our group some hope to get out of this dimension if they can get past the zombie horde to get to the tennis courts (remember them?).
Animation error-wise, only a handful of quick things to work on for 126 (maybe a benefit of having two Animation Directors on board for this one?): two card edits, a split screen, and an odd quick flash of a Duel Disk part not being drawn in, lol. Also, two bits in the preview related to episode 127. As usual, edit breakdowns below the cut for the interested!
Quick housekeeping: quickly revisited and re-finalized episode 107's hardsub after noticing that I had Ed missing from the translated ending credits for that episode (instead accidentally listing Rei in both cast lists); links updated in the release post there and in the masterpost. oop
Anywho, enjoy! Hoping not to delay myself too much over the next couple weeks in getting 127 and 128 finalized, lol; before I fully work on them, I'll first be back in TFSPland hopefully knocking out both Kotori and Rio's stories to cap off ZEXAL's story events, along with some more incidental work on ARC-V "Dub-Uncut" episode 2. Stay tuned!
Fixes and Edits!
Clocking in as our first error around 12:43 (not too long after the second Animation Director's team kicks in after Flame Wingman's summoning [that's where you can tell the shift from Chi Man Park's style to Ok Mi Lee's]), as Manjoume summons Dark Sword the ... Dragon Knight and Judai looks on, there's a black square on his Disk where Flame Wingman's card should be. A relatively easy fix, as I just slapped on a proxy over it in AfterEffects.
A bit later, as Misawa tries to get into the Power Generator Complex's control panel but has trouble doing so, Kenzan and the others run over to help--but there's a quick movement frame (lasting three total frames) as Kenzan moves to run over where part of his inactive Disk is literally missing--you can see the background of some power-generator panels behind him through the gap, lol. Fixed using Photoshop to grab that part from a later frame in the shot, clipping it out and slightly rotating/adjusting it to fit into this shot; made a perfect fit! Once done, I threw the fixed frame into the footage in Sony Vegas. (Actually noticed this one after working on the other edits as I was revising the episode's subs.)
Later, as Judai summons Gran Mole and has him Contact-Fuse with Neos, there's a quick frame as we pan up to Neos and Gran Mole fusing where Judai has Gran Mole in Monster Zone 2 on his Disk, which should be occupied by Neos. Another quick and easy AfterEffects fix as I just applied a Neos proxy over it.
This one was interesting... After Judai summons Gran Mole and Manjoume notes he also has the same ATK as his Dark Sword the ... Dragon Knight, Judai clicks in on a split-screen to activate his effect; once he explains it, their split-screen splits apart, but Manjoume's moves first for two frames before Judai's finally rapidly moves as their uneven slide-out lasts just five frames (vs the usual 7-8). Fixed this in Sony Vegas by masking out and redoing their slide-outs to be simultaneously timed, making them smoother to last the more common seven frames.
In the preview for 127, as we see the Phantasms' silhouettes rising behind Amon's Eye of the Typhoon, Amon and Martin slide in on a quick split-screen before sliding out to show Eye of the Typhoon being made to dissipate--but for a quick frame on slide-in and slide-out, the border on Amon's split is a bit ghosty and faded, while on the slide-out, the close-up of Eye of the Typhoon being transitioned into is also briefly missing. Being fixed first for 127 proper then applied as I set up the translated preview, I redid the border on Amon's split for both ghosty instances to look more per usual, while on the slide-out, I masked in part of the close-up Eye of the Typhoon shot between him and Martin. (Couldn't really apply this fix to the original preview due to the Japanese title text over the shot.)
As the 127 preview wraps, we have a shot of a shrouded-in-darkness Raviel standing up, with his eyes ominously glowing red as he does so--in 127 proper, this was removed for some reason, so he stands up with his eyes looking normal. I thought it made more sense to still have his eyes ominously glow, so I took the preview version of the shot and masked out the glowing eyes over the footage from 127 to restore it for both the translated preview and the episode proper.
IVORY · PART ll
Fandom: Dune
Pairings: Feyd-Rautha x Atreides!Female OC
Words: 1,658
Warnings: dark themes, abuse, and arranged marriage
Summary: Deceit leaves you waiting in doubt, while also allowing you a glimpse into the violence that is house Harkonnen.
"It's been days."
Sitting at the metal dining table, you stare down at the meal sitting on your plate; a platter of strange meat and fruit. It's late evening and yet you've still to see the sky. The duke sits the table opposite of you, troubled with a face equally as displeased as you sound.
Three day's have passed since your arrival to Giedi Prime.
That's how long you've been waiting to hear from the Barron. That's how long he's been making the envoy wait, with little to no news other than the fact his nephew is nearing to the planets orbit.
Feyd-Rautha was never here.
We've travelled time and space only to be left in disillusion. Stranded and seething in what is only another insult. The Barron had denied all your fathers requests to speak. We're to simply wait the coming time for the ceremony to take place.
"Is he dead?"
The question slips from between your lips, more as a suggestion than a question. In these last few days you've been contemplating the delay in your marriage to the Harkonnen. Your mind couldn't help but wander to the faint possibility.
You're father glanced you and then to the female servants. He utters, "Don't say that?"
Turning your eyes to the women, you observe how still the three of them stand. Their bald heads are bowed lowly, their eyes everted as if it were forbidden to look upon us. Neither of them spoke, a noticeable trait amongst these walls. It's terribly quiet.
"Do you think they listen?"
The duke sighed with a gesture, "All of you, leave us."
Immediately, the three women scurried from your site and out of the dining room. It leaves only the two of you now. Taking your glass of drink, filled with a substance you could only describe as strong - alcoholic - you take a sip.
"Don't get comfortable," he counselled. "They all listen. The servants. The guards. The walls. There's nowhere here you can ever believe is secure."
"Then why do we stay?"
He paused, "You know why."
Getting up from your seat, you headed towards a decorative wall ornament. A silver plate, rippled and bent into an unusual disk. The shiny chrome reflects the jarred image of your pale face.
"I'd accepted my fate from the beginning," you started whilst refusing to look at him. You can feel the emotions bubbling within your chest. "I'd made peace and readied myself for our arrival - and for nothing - to be made a fool."
"If he didn't need our alliance, then we wouldn't be here."
"You think he'd kill us?"
"Yes, and yet we still breathe," replied your father. "Whatever it is that's happening, it's not without reason. I don't believe this is the Barron's doing."
"Then it's true."
"What is?"
Your turned around, "Feyd-Rautha."
The duke tensed at the mention, before looking away with a sigh of defeat. It haunts him. Your father never wanted to speak of the marriage. It was your mother who came to you after the fact, confessing the identity of your match.
Your father is too shamed. Surrendering to the enemy and going so far as to parlay with his only daughter. It had hurt the mans pride, not only as a duke but as a father. He wanted better for you, better than a monster.
"He can't hurt -."
"Don't lie to me," you interjected. "As soon as it's done and I'm alone, there's nothing he can't do to hurt me."
"He won’t kill you."
"No," you mutter bitterly. Pausing, you emptied your cup with a last mouthful. "That would mean mercy."
Pursing your lips, you flare at his poor attempt to reassure your welfare. There's paths worse than death, and murder is too clean. Striding across the dining hall, you exited hastily without properly bidding him goodnight.
It angers you.
This waiting game has brought you to the edge of sanity. As you said before, you'd made peace with the situation, but now you're unsure. You're stuck in a twisted purgatory; neither free from this place nor bound to it.
Navigating the abandoned hallways, the click of your heels echoes amongst the wide tunnel like space. The palace is endless and vast, and sometimes you wonder what you might discover if you were to steer from the trail.
There's much the other houses don't know about the Harkonnen's. They're a secretive and sly race, who don't take kindly to sharing their technology and resources; other than the exorbitant production of Spice.
"Why are you following me?"
Pausing in the middle of the hall, you waited for the hidden figure to emerge from the shadows. You had herd them trailing you from the moment you left the dining room. Their mind is far too active for you to ignore amidst the emptiness.
"It's only polite to mind one's guests. The palace walls can easily deceive the unfamiliar."
Piter appears the dank recesses of the hallway, still clothed in traditional black. The two of you have barely associated after your initial contact upon arrival, but you aren't at all surprised to find him lurking.
"And what might I find, if I were to stray?" you asked daringly. "Perhaps the truth?"
"The truth isn't always worth it's labour."
You're gaze narrows, "Tell me what you want."
"Answers," he simply responded. "It's my function to seek answers - even to questions still yet to come."
"Isn't it only inevitable."
"In a manner, but why not reach for the power of foresight?"
Stepping towards him, you inch closer to the mentat; until you're merely inches from one another. Although he doesn’t move, you can see the uncertainty in his face. He expects you be otherwise, but you react differently; a miscalculation.
“Tell me my future.”
He looks at you with hesitation, before answering. “Your future is your own creation. But,” he adds whilst looking you up and down. “I do expect it be bleak.”
You scoff beneath your breath. He’s blunt, but at the very least he shows honesty. It may not be on the most respectful of terms, but it's better than you expect. Eyeing him once more, you leave Piter alone in the darkened hallway.
Walking back to your room, you're quick to take notice of the servant standing idly outside of your doorway. This one’s different. You’ve not see her face before. There seems to be quite a few, following you like shadows.
“A bath,” you instruct, to which she obeys.
Opening the door to your room, you enter first while she trails afterwards. Swiftly she maneuvers herself to prepare the bath in the adjoining room. It’s gives you time to breath, and you do so deeply.
The weight on your shoulders is overbearing. A force to be reckoned. You’ve been on constant guard the moment you step foot on this rock, and although you know you shouldn’t allow yourself to slip, you bring yourself at ease.
If only for a moment.
The servant returns, helping you undress from the layers of clothing that've been shielding you from the many faces. They’re not to see you before the ceremony, but you’d rather they don’t see you at all.
It’s easier to hide.
Slipping into the hot bath, you submerge down into the milky white water. It smells subtle but flowery, not a smell you first expected to breath in a place like this. You'd expected something unpleasant and sterile.
They say the Barron himself bathes in vats of black oil. They dredge it from this very terrain. It's supposedly a mineral enriched concoction. A way to heal the mans fowl wounds and morbidly ill health.
Improbable.
Rotating your neck, you ease the taut ache within your muscles. The ceremony will be soon, if not tomorrow then surely the next. You’ve not seen their ways of marriage, but you imagine it to be cold and emotionless; savage.
It’ll more akin to a fete, than a true celebration.
Sponging along the length of your arms and shoulders, the servant carefully washes you as if you're made of precious material. Leaning over, you cant help but catch site of the bruised flesh at her collar.
“Stop.”
Immediately, the woman stills like a statue. Your damp fingertips running across her soft but marred skin; the color of deep purple. She flinches when you press the tender wound. It's recent enough.
“Who did this to you?”
Remaining quiet, her unmoving eyes stare into the distance. Fear or loyalty. Either way she refuses to reveal the abuser. The artery at her neck throbs with the increase of her heartrate.
“Speak.”
She stumbles at the sound of The Voice. It brings her to her knees, hand splashing against the waters surface as she tries to steady herself. The answer you compel comes unwillingly and to a surprise.
“Ne-Barron."
Frightful eyes gape up at you, body shaking as she tries to come to terms with the power that'd overcome her freewill. Disorientation. As much as her instincts beg for her to flee, she makes no move to runaway; to scream in horror and obscenity.
Instead, she collects herself as much as she can, before retrieving the sponge to continue bathing your flesh. There's no need to force for further elaboration. Her words came accompanied with a testament of emotions.
Torture.
Torment.
A common endurance on this planet. Resting in the bath, you only need to imagine as to why the brute would decide to leave the servant so obviously bruised and battered; only the reason hardly matters. Logic is for the sane.
Feyd-Rautha is psychotic.
Your only real concern is, if he's so willing to inflict pain and suffering to that of his own people, then what might he do to you; an outsider. An Atreides. Those bruises hold no shame or remorse. They stand as his representation.
Would he make you walk among them as another?
A symbol of his dominion.
“The sun of truth rises in the human being and illuminates his world when he lifts his mind from the darkness of ignorance and selfishness into the light of wisdom and altruism.” — Samael Aun Weor
Tonatiuh - Aztec Sun God Talon Abraxas
Origins and Mythology Creation of the Fifth Sun: According to Aztec mythology, the universe has undergone several cycles of creation and destruction, each ending with the fall of a sun. Tonatiuh is the sun of the current, fifth era, known as the Fifth Sun. His creation came after the fall of the fourth sun, which ended in a great flood. The gods gathered at Teotihuacan to decide who would become the new sun. Two gods, Tecuciztecatl and Nanahuatzin, volunteered to sacrifice themselves by leaping into a fire. Despite his initial hesitation, Nanahuatzin bravely jumped first, becoming the new sun. Tecuciztecatl followed, but his delayed jump resulted in him becoming the moon. Tonatiuh then took his place as the new sun, requiring human blood and hearts to rise each day. Cosmic Struggle: Tonatiuh’s daily journey across the sky is seen as a constant struggle against the forces of darkness. Each night, he battles the underworld to emerge victorious at dawn. This struggle symbolizes the ongoing battle between light and darkness, order and chaos, life and death.
Symbolism and Attributes Sun Disk: Tonatiuh is often depicted at the center of the Aztec calendar stone, also known as the Sun Stone. He is portrayed as a fierce figure with a protruding tongue, representing his demand for blood and sacrifice. The sun disk around him symbolizes his central role in the cosmos and his power over time and life. Sacrificial Blade: His tongue, depicted as a sacrificial blade (tecpatl), symbolizes the need for human sacrifices to sustain his strength and ensure the continuity of the world. This imagery reinforces the Aztec belief in the importance of blood offerings to appease the gods and maintain cosmic balance. Eagle and Serpent: Tonatiuh is also associated with the eagle, a symbol of the sun’s high position in the sky, and the serpent, representing the earth and the underworld. This duality highlights his dominion over both the heavens and the earthly realm.
Worship and Rituals Templo Mayor: Tonatiuh was honored at the Templo Mayor, the main temple complex in Tenochtitlan. The temple was dedicated to Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc, but ceremonies often included tributes to Tonatiuh as well, given his central role in Aztec cosmology. Human Sacrifice: Human sacrifice was a crucial aspect of Tonatiuh’s worship. The Aztecs believed that his strength depended on the nourishment provided by human blood and hearts. Sacrifices were performed during major festivals and ceremonies, with captives of war often chosen as offerings. New Fire Ceremony: One of the most significant rituals associated with Tonatiuh was the New Fire Ceremony, held every 52 years. This ceremony marked the end of a cycle in the Aztec calendar and was performed to ensure the continuation of the Fifth Sun. All fires in the empire were extinguished, and a new fire was ignited atop a sacred mountain, symbolizing the renewal of cosmic energy and the assurance of Tonatiuh’s strength for another cycle.
Roles and Aspects God of the Sun: As the sun god, Tonatiuh was responsible for the life-giving energy of the sun, which was essential for agriculture, growth, and sustenance. His daily journey across the sky represented the passage of time and the cycle of life and death. Protector of Warriors: Tonatiuh was also considered the patron of warriors. The Aztecs believed that brave warriors who died in battle were rewarded by joining Tonatiuh in his celestial journey, becoming his companions and aiding him in his fight against darkness. Symbol of Order and Stability: Tonatiuh’s role in maintaining the stability of the cosmos made him a symbol of order and continuity. His strength and endurance were crucial for the survival of the world and the prosperity of the Aztec people.
Cultural and Religious Significance Central Figure in Aztec Religion: Tonatiuh’s worship was integral to the Aztec religion. His demand for human sacrifice underscored the Aztec belief in the interconnectedness of life, death, and renewal. The rituals dedicated to him were essential for maintaining cosmic balance and ensuring the continued favor of the gods. Representation in Art and Iconography: Tonatiuh is prominently featured in Aztec art and iconography, particularly on the Sun Stone. This massive stone sculpture, discovered in the ruins of the Templo Mayor, depicts Tonatiuh at its center, surrounded by symbols representing the previous suns and the 20-day signs of the Aztec calendar. The Sun Stone serves as a powerful reminder of his central role in Aztec cosmology.
Modern Significance Cultural Heritage: Today, Tonatiuh remains an important figure in the cultural heritage of Mexico. His legacy is preserved in literature, art, and historical studies, reflecting the deep connection between the Aztec civilization and the cycles of nature. Symbol of Mexican Identity: Tonatiuh’s imagery and symbolism continue to inspire modern interpretations of Mexican identity and history. The Sun Stone, featuring his likeness, is a national symbol and an iconic representation of pre-Columbian Mexican culture.
Conclusion
Tonatiuh, the Aztec sun god, embodies the vital force that sustains life and order in the cosmos. His myths and attributes reflect the Aztecs’ profound understanding of the cycles of nature and the importance of maintaining cosmic balance. Through his daily journey across the sky and the rituals performed in his honor, Tonatiuh’s worship underscores the centrality of the sun in Aztec religion and society. Today, his legacy continues to illuminate the rich cultural heritage of the Aztec civilization and its enduring influence on modern Mexican identity.
That post got me thinking about programming, and that maybe I should talk about one that I really had fun writing recently, and that I'm kinda proud of, so here it goes!
So, in my computer experiments and stuff like that, I often have to write scripts that process entries in various stages. For example, I had a thing where it read a list of image urls and downloaded, compressed, extracted some metadata, and saved them to disk.
That sort of process can be decomposed in various stages which, and that's the important part, can be run independently. That would massively speed up the task, but setting up the code infrastructure for that every time I needed it would be cumbersome. Which is why I wrote a little library to do it for me!
That gif is a bit fast, so here's what it looks like when it's all done:
This is from a test I wrote for the library. It simulates running a set of items through 4 different processes (which I named production lines), each with their own stages and filters.
Each line with a progress bar is a stage in the process. If you follow the traces on the left side, you can visualize how the element enter the 4 production lines on one side, and are collected on the other. The stages I wrote for the test are simple operations, but are written to simulate real world delay and errors.
To set up the processes, I do practically nothing. Just initialize the production line structure and connect the stages together, and that's it! All the work of setting up the async tasks, sending the entries from each stage to the next, filtering, error logging, even the little ascii diagram, all that happens automatically! And all that functionality packed into one data structure!
I feel like trying to explain how it does all that (and why having built it myself makes me proud) would make it harder to believe that I actually had fun doing it. I mean, it involved reading a lot of code from high profile open source projects, studying aspects of the language I had never played with (got really deep into generics with this one), and I can't really explain how I really enjoyed doing all that.
I don't know, I feel like I lost the point of what I was trying to say. Hm, I guess this feeling are harder to pin down that I expected.
On Not Knowing Where to Start
I have made tremendous progress on getting NetBSD to run on Wrap030, my 68030 homebrew computer.
I learned I had completely misunderstood how NetBSD sets up hardware devices (the tag is just a machine-dependent structure to help identify the bus properties the device is attaching to, and the handle is the actual device base address).
I learned how to set up my timer interrupt for use by the kernel for delay() statements & the like, which turned out to be a missing piece in getting serial devices set up (since the driver calls delay() at several points).
I got stuck for days trying to understand why the kernel couldn't mount my disk (endian-swapping strikes again).
Then finally, the kernel prompted me to enter the path for init, the "mother of all processes" as the code calls it.
... which promptly crashed.
and it crashed again. and again. and again.
I am finally out of the kernel. I have reached process 1. The machine is officially running userland code.
And I am completely lost.
I've spent weeks learning how to customize, build, and troubleshoot the kernel; but I am no longer dealing with the kernel.
I caught some bugs in how I was setting up virtual memory space for user processes (invalid stack address that overlapped I/O space). I swapped out some suspicious RAM. I found that the kernel would die in unexpected ways if it got too large (still don't know the cause, but it seems fine if I just keep it small). Still, init just dies with no insight into what it's doing or how far it's getting into its process.
But I'm in unknown territory here, and I'm finding myself quite lost and unsure where to turn next. I'm sure I'll figure out though. I just have to keep hammering away at it. I've come too far to give up now.
I have a looming deadline I've set for myself. VCFSW 2025 is in just a few weeks and I would love to have this system running in time for the show. It's a long shot — this project is something I've wanted to do for 25 years, and something I've been working towards for 10. I remain cautiously optimistic, knowing full well the scale of what remains.
But look how far I've come.
Hello! Would you ever consider bringing back different post types, especially audio? I appreciate that audio posts now display the artist, song title, and album name, but unfortunately newer audio posts don’t play in Tumblr-based music players like egoisticalgoat.de or robinpx.github.io/boombox because they’re read as text posts. Thank you for reading!
Answer: Hey there, @stepintomusic!
Sadly, the answer here is no. We’ve been moving away from legacy post types and towards the Neue Post Format—a format that allows multiple types of media in the same post—for many years. The new features available in NPF basically guarantee that we won’t ever switch back to the legacy format.
(If you’re interested in peeking behind the scenes here, there are a few posts about NPF over at @engineering.)
Now, to get into the meat of the issue. While it would be amazing if we could support every third-party tool forever, the reality is that we can’t. We’re a surprisingly small team to begin with, and even if we weren’t, that support would come at a cost.
To start, there’s the development tax. Now, would it have been cool to ensure all third-party tools (and all custom themes) worked 100% perfectly with posts stored as NPF before releasing NPF to the public? Yeah, it would have been… for third-party tools and custom themes. For us, it would have meant delaying NPF (and all the features it brings with it) for months, possibly years. Imagine a 2023 where Tumblr still doesn’t have polls: that’s the alternate future we’re talking about here.
And then, there’s our maintenance tax. The engine that powers Tumblr themes is already incredibly complicated—complicated to the point that we’re already finding it difficult to maintain and add things like, as you mentioned, NPF audio metadata. If, every time we found some third-party tool that doesn’t play nice with the latest changes, we tried to make an affordance for it… the engine would just become even more complex. And it would do so quickly, and complex to the point of being impossible to keep up with as a maintainer.
There’s a great article here by a former Mozilla developer about the pitfalls of prioritizing a third-party ecosystem over your own software. Did you know that Firefox was essentially a single-threaded application until 2018? This meant it would still visually lock up when saving files to disk, or collecting crash data. Chrome launched in 2008 and was multiprocess from the start. But it took Firefox ten years to catch up because supporting all existing third-party add-ons was seen as necessary. (Spoiler alert: in the end, they had to drop support for those add-ons anyway.)
My own recommendation around third-party software like this is: get in contact with its developer! If something in their software isn’t working, there’s nobody more qualified to update it. (Or, if they’ve abandoned the project but had made it open-source, maybe someone else could step up to maintain it. Maybe you! You never know until you try.)
I talked about the maintenance tax from the first-party side, but let’s talk about it from the third-party side, too. As a theme author and add-on developer myself, I have long accepted that the cost of maintaining these things can never be zero. When your software interacts with an online service, and that online service is being actively maintained, your software also needs to be maintained.
I hope all this has been enlightening! Thanks for your question, and please, have a great day.
awright i’ve successfully taken a shower and put on real human clothes and driven all around the county to pick up meds and managed to get some food down and now it’s time to dig my ass out of the professional hole one falls into after 2-5 days of catatonic depression. sorry for the inconvenience sorry for the delayed response i don’t know how i could have missed your urgent message sorry for the unintended disrespect of your time and effort and you’re at the top of my priority list for the rest of the week and on and on 👍 yes everything’s fine no there’s no excuse i just have a brain disease that sometimes takes up all my RAM on remain-alive-i-guess.exe and it’s one of those strikeforce type situations where some guy has to fly in from another state to do a force reboot. yeah regrettably the guy’s out of office for the long weekend but i managed to end task on “technically accurate computer metaphor” and found 2% disk space and it’s allllllllll yours. as long as you don’t mind splitting it with everybody else whose time sensitive projects are stalled out in my inbox. no don’t worry about that cooling fan noise it’ll resolve itself sometime between late november and the heat death of the universe. yes i’m available now on teams
𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐲𝐥
pairing(s); miles morales x gn!reader, can be read as civilian earth 42 miles or 1610 miles
summary; When you entered your second home the last thing you expected to do it to share a vinyl with a less fortunate boy —flufftober day;6–
word count; 1.1k+
warning(s); strangers to friends to whatever your head comes up with, useless backstory, fluff, and language
playlist; dark red by steve lacey
A/n:—GIFs; @mo0nfairy & @merakyn— when I say… I barely, BARELY was able to finish this
The aura of your sacred space called out your name as you stepped from of the train out into the subway the cool air more intense underground before you made you way up the stairs up into the streets of manhattan after two hour with a delayed ride you were on you way to your escape earbuds plugged into your ear an umbrella in your hold as it drizzled the sky cloudy and the streets cold You felt your feet your take you the old rundown beat path before you were at the place where you could spend hours on end
The record shop
You swung the door open the familiar bell greeting a shoegaze playlist calmly spilling through the overhead speakers the bass going ideal with the weather outside and the festive mood as the days progressed deeper into October when the blazing hot heat was in its ending days until the year prior and cool winds took over over for the rest of time being
“Hey stranger” The familiar mellow voice called out to you as you turned your gaze to look at one of your second self Xavier who worked in the shop along with the store owner Alphfred an older man who originally bought the space with his wife whom he ran the establishment with the place was huge in the 90s and early 2000s selling select music equipment, records, and CDs but like every business it had a dry patch and almost closed down around the 2010s when ipods became popular but like everything, they begin to make a come back and business slowly picked up
This time around the only missing part was Lillith, Alphfred's wife who passed a year prior from breast cancer with the man not getting any younger than he was currently was he reluctantly had to hire help which in conclusion got you Xavier his lanky yet slouched figure standing before you blue eyes steering through the smoky black and gray eyeshadow around them, a black beanie over his blonde neck length hair
“It's been two weeks, please tell me you saved me one” You playfully rolled your eyes before wrapping your arms around the boy a pout in you voice that he could picture without having to look at you
“Yea which is like two life times for you, and you know I did even if you don't deserve it” You pulled away with a small squeal and a few jumps in you spot and now it was his turn to roll his eyes before going behind the register counter unlocking a cabinet grabbing the record putting it behind his back as he approached you again before bringing it in your line of sight
“Oh my god I could kiss you” You whispered while letting out a breath approaching the limited addition Steve Lacey record that you’d been waiting on forever there was only a hundred made and yet you had it in your possession you let your hands pick it up from Xaviers hold missing the sarcastic mumble that fell from his lips
“Please save me the romantics”
“Where's the old man?” You called out to the blonde not taking your eyes off the music containing disk who went to go take a seat behind the counter who hummed before responding untangling the wires of his headphones carefully
“Went out, not gonna be back until around six” You unintentionally mimicked his response calling back with a hum deciding you would wait until then since it was already almost three you made your way to your favorite spot of the shop the dark rocking chair in the corner you controlled the sound of the speakers on the wall next to it after carefully unwrapping the vinyl and putting it on the platter turning the headshell to sit on the disk before amping up the volume letting the tune take over the store and you swore you could've heard Xavier mumble about how tedious it was to watch
Sitting down on the “old hunk as wood” as Alphred called it yet you noticed how he never through it out you took out a book you were reading from the tote bag slung over your shoulder starting from where you last left off letting the atmosphere push through your nerve of senses clouding them all together
When you heard the bell ring throughout the store you expected to see Alphred to walk through the door not the soaked, lean, afro latino boy you currently were viewing who you could tell was a bit of a way from home not as if you weren't yourself assuming it was just another cute customer you mentally let Xavier handle it before going back to your book not getting very far before you were interrupted
“Excuse me, do you have any more Limited Lacey records left?” Your attention averted from you page to chocolate eyed boy who seemingly pleaded with you to agree with as he nodded towards the record player the vinyl spinning around the beginning of dark red playing through the speaker and you looked at him with sympathy before responding
“I know how it feels, im sorry” And you truly did even if it sounded dramatic there truly was a gut wrenching feeling when you were just a split second too late or when the person in front of you just got the last one just for it to end up in a thrift store a few months later it had happened to you more than once
“I take it you're not from here?” You questioned gently trying to uplift the visibly down boy you gaze averting to Xavier for a split second who was smirking at you like the cheshire cat before you turning back to soft going boy
“Yeah came here for a convention with a few friends from Brooklyn, record slipped my mind” He sighed visibly defeated and before you could think of the words they were already spewing from your mouth
“You could borrow mine sometime” You offered and mentally cursed yourself while watching the brunette eyes light up like a kid on Christmas
“You would do that? I could pay you!” He questioned hope prominent in voice as you nodded finally standing up from your chair noticing how Xavier was now nowhere to be found as your eyes scanned through the store
“You wouldn't need to do that, don't kick a man when he's down and that sort of thing” You reassured a close mouth smile thrown his way as you took a few steps past him your shoes placing on the floor
“I-Im Miles by the way” The brown haired boy called out ad you turned to face him as he forced his mouth from going agape as he stared raking his eyes over your features
“Nice to meet you Miles”
