Disneyland employees who perform as various Disney characters at the theme park are seeking to join the Actor’s Equity Association, which represents everything from actors on Broadway to strippers in Los Angeles. The union is seeking to represent the 1,700 Disneyland employees in the characters and parades departments at the park. It said after three days of collecting cards signed by employees, it already has more than the 30% support needed to file for a representation vote with the National Labor Relations Board, which oversees such elections. But it said it is waiting until it has the support of at least 60% before filing for such a vote or seeking voluntary recognition of the union by Disney. Performers doing the same work at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, are already in a union and have been for years. And until recently the Disney World performers were paid more than their Disneyland counterparts, according to the union. The union contract reached between a coalition of unions and management at Disney World last year pays the performers a minimum hourly wage that ranges from $21.30 to $23.00, according to the union. The Disneyland performers had been getting $20 an hour until the union organizing drive began late last year. The minimum pay went up to $24.15 an hour at the end of last year, according to the union. But the cost of living is significantly greater in Orange County, California, where Disneyland is located, than in Orlando. According to data from the Council for Community and Economic Research, the cost of living is 50% greater in Orange County, California. Housing costs, which are more than twice as expensive, are the primary reason, but prices are higher across multiple categories. There are more than 21,000 Disneyland employees, who are referred to as cast members by the company, who are represented by more than a dozen unions. Those unionized jobs include everything from retail and food service workers to security guards, hair and make-up artists and pyrotechnic workers. But not the performers who dress up as characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy and interact with visitors.

The video of a Gaston character actor getting mad at a woman who inappropriately touched his chest is circulating again (mainly on twitter), and some people seem to think he was in the wrong for being mad about an adult guest getting handsy with him, so I just thought I'd add my two cents by saying this:
I've met Peter Pan and Wendy at Disneyland Paris three times (2017, 2018, 2019), all as an adult, and on two of those occasions (2017 and 2019) I hugged either one or both of them. I found this from the original post I made about meeting them in 2017:
Tumblr media
(There was a paragraph between these two sections but... anyway...)
On both occasions where I hugged one or both characters, it was because the actor(s) asked me "would you like a hug?". I'm super shy and awkward so the idea of just going up to a stranger - including a character - and just hugging them is bizarre to me; if they hadn't offered, I wouldn't have hugged them. In fact, that's why there was no hug the second time I met them, because it was NOT offered by the actors, and I still had a good time whilst also respecting the actors' boundaries.
Long story short, it's so easy to not be inappropriate with Disney character actors when you're an adult - a small toddler hugging a character without permission is one thing, doing it when you're an adult is really not okay. Just because they're in character it doesn't mean you can touch them wherever you like or assault them, and they're fully within their rights to decide what those boundaries are at all times, especially when meeting adult guests.
Anyway, on a slightly more positive note, here's the pics of me looking gross while meeting Peter and Wendy since the remake comes out next month:

Scamp's Got a BRAND NEW Model Sheet!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes I know I said I wanted to post here more frequently but I've been busy over the past month and have neglected to keep up to date with most of my socials, tumblr included!
Anyways, SCAMP'S GOT A NEW MODEL SHEET! And has had one for over two weeks now (yes Im tardy shaddup). The only reason I decided to make a new one for him was to have one that was on the level of the recent model sheets I've been making for almost a year now. Out of all the characters in my series, at least that I have drawn up till now, Scamp's the one I've had the least amount of trouble with. Compared to the other's, his design is very simple and has remained unchanged since I settled on it 5 years ago, with some slight modifications over the years. That and the fact that I've drawn him more than any of the other character speaks to this, especially at a time where I could only draw small chibified characters with short muzzles. I've drawn him so much that its almost become second nature to me, and there hasn't been any point in time where I struggled to draw him, with one or two exceptions. I think only time I needed a new model sheet for him was in 2021 so I could have a representation on how I could draw his body shape. Outside of that, I've needed to reference back his model sheet very little, compared to other characters.
Also before I forget, you may have noticed that for Sarah's and Scamp's new model sheets, Ive been doing a profile and a back shot instead of only doing either one for the full body. I guess this displays my growth as an artist and in my ability to draw a front 3/4 view, a profile view, and a back view all in full body. Im planning on doing the same for the other new model sheets I made for Ken, Vicky, and Delilah. Although I dont think I'll do the same for sheets with non main characters, and ones that wont appear in more than one chapter.
Below I'll include the previous model sheets for Scamp. One from 2021, and his original from 2019 (that I digitally inked and colored in 2020, along with adding the side profile shot in post) which hasn't aged a day despite being 4 years old!
