I'm a DM and my players give each session a title at the end of the evening. In the last 2 hours or so (in game time) this is how the mood has shifted:
Session #2: 4/20: Kobold Diplomacy: Friends, Not Food
Session #3: 5/4: "I don't like Kobolds. They're coarse, and rough, and irritating, and they get everywhere."
sometimes I abruptly remember the fact that, early in the campaign with my (in-person) dnd group, one of the homies went "hey your fanfic seems cool what's your ao3"
and I, having precisely no shame, started to tell her as she started typing the name on her phone
and we were then both jumpscared by the fact that if you start typing "hopestoryteller ao3" into google APPARENTLY IT AUTOFILLS.
thinking about that tonight. how the hell did that even happen.
Can I just say something... The fact that "Will the Wise" (Will Byers dnd character) is portrayed as wearing a tall pointy hat, flowy robes and uses a freaking staff... When he is supposed to be a CLERIC
Bugs the crap out of me. Because that? That isn't a cleric that is a wizard or sorcerer or warlock. Not a cleric.
Clerics have armor on. They wear chainmail or at the very least leather armor. Not purple robes with stars and other stuff on them.
They use maces or warhammers maybe even a sword. And crossbows as well not freaking staffs (staves?)
Another thing? They have shields! Not pointy hats!
Who knows maybe he multiclassed into a wizard/sorcerer/warlock in an earlier campaign (which would explain the getup in S3??? Maybe???)
(though as far as I'm aware he would still wear armor if so idk I could be wrong)
Idk man but it bugs me to no end how everyone and I mean everyone draws him looking like a ...magic user
Also super fun things - I’m hosting a D&D one shot for the club I’m in tomorrow and I wanted to create a physical handout for the missive they get and this is what I did!!
I was originally going to like soak a piece of paper in tea and coffee grounds and bake it then hand write the missive to get a more authentic look - but life happened so they get a slightly less cool version lol.
But still proud of it.
(The intro and first sentence was taken from a letter in the curse of strahd campaign, but the rest of the letter was written by me with the information given in the Wolves of Welton free oneshot)
Sometimes a really cool character might just not be suited for a specific campaign setting.
Story time: After 10 hrs of gameplay I realised that my DnD character, the way she was, was making me miserable.
For context, this is a sort of prison slavery kind of setting, where PCs have to serve a prison sentence as a Suicide Squad, going on missions for the Church. I was not aware of this beforehand, and created Devia - a free traveler air genasi, completely unsuitable for being chill in captivity. This was not a healthy headspace to be in. Plus, my stats were bad, and I wasn't vibing with ranger class.
After some emotional agony, I admitted this to the DM. I was very prepared - I created an entirely new character, with a biography based on what I knew now about the world.
Ultimately, this might not go anywhere, and Devia herself might be hijacked to become a dhampir monk, in that case, some of this design might be reused.
Fellow geeks! I have bought my niblings weapons for this weekend’s dnd extravaganza and acrylic pens so we can name them. Elvish is easy, but is there a dnd dwarven script? If not, im thinking ogham 🤣
Some of you might know this, but my first ever DnD campaign I played was during the beginnings of COVID and went to just last year (it will be a year at the end of May since it ended with our party finishing up at Lvl 20!) and I played a Bard.
So I actually wrote real songs, one which I finished to its entirety (lyric-wise as I cannot write sheet music) and shared with the group in character during a in-game celebration. My DM loved it so much he got a music commission and using my lyrics, hired a team he had worked with on a DnD/fantasy ttrpg inspired immersive musical to get music written and have a singer accompany it so it was an official track. They’ve been actually using the song in the show every now and again since, and now I guess it’s a big enough deal that it’s going to be available on music streaming services/social media with myself credited as the lyricist!
It’s really exciting because I wrote the song with a lot of love and as a nod to all the other player’s characters written by my character, who means a lot to me, but I also wrote it in like an hour mad rush right before our game started and I would have to present it because I had procrastinated ALDJDJSJSSJDJFKDI
ANYWAY!
Just wanted to share, as someone who was in the arts and passionate about it but driven out by circumstance and just the demands of that life it’s really nice to know I can be creative and have it be acknowledged by others 🥹
A friend and I were having a discussion about the fanon versus canon interpretations of firbolgs. He revealed to me today that all the fanon firbolgs inspired by Critical Role are actually cows. I spent this whole time thinking they were goats for some reason.
That being said, I have a proposal: bovid firbolgs. Cows, goats, sheep, yaks, buffalo, wildebeest, antelopes, hell even dik-dik. Tell me a gazelle or a bison firbolg wouldn’t be sick as fuck.
