Two separate anons: Ew, you support a shipping I find gross, we can't be friends anymore.
Me:
Tumblr media
I sometimes want to be like "do you even know how many fans ship it and have been shipping it? Do you even know how long it's been like this? Do you know what they have said behind the scenes?" but they're anon so I don't care enough to rub it in, I'd rather leave it alone. Clearly they don't, but that's why we block.

As much as I love Adam for a few fun parts of his character and for what he could have been at the hands of a competent writer (as shown by the fanfics where he gets properly developed)...
I feel like he (and the way he's characterised) is what broke Hazbin hotel season 1 pacing, Lucifer's character and the show's overall atmosphere.
Tumblr media
(Long and packed rant under the cut, because I've been having these thoughts since I saw season 1, and I want to share them. Viewer discretion is adviced)
Before Adam existed (pilot era) it was all simple and worked more properly: a story about the hotel and its inhabitants, and most importanty, redemption. It was a small snuggly location with a few characters in the center of a plot
Heaven was in the background and kept as a mystery. Moreover, from what we've seen in the pilot, Lucifer was obviously a background villain or at least an anti hero, one of the real obstacles for Charlie to overcome on the way to her goal (instead of a minor inconveniece resolved in a single broadway song)
But when Adam and his weird obsession with murder broke into that perfectly cut out premise, everything just shattered. Too many themes got weaved into the short story of the 8 episodes: Heaven vs Hell politics, overlords, war, Charlie's conflict with Adam, the seraphims...
All of that pushed the hotel and the redemption to the background instead of Heaven.... in a cartoon that's named after the hotel. Because 8 episodes is not enough to talk about politics, a war and a 6 month redemption course (the latter even happened behind the screen with only some verbal hints given about the amazing secretive progress the hotel guests made that we were not allowed to see!)
(Had this cartoon stayed indie, there would have been a possibility of making more episodes and tackling more themes properly. But big name broadway actors are more important than that, it appears)
Back to Adam.
He is not even a good villain. He really should have been more of a background antihero. Give the man some sedatives, for f's sake! Where did all that rabidity even come from, after centuries of living in Heaven? Honestly, he'd be expected to act calmer and wiser than how he actually did, especially with how old he is (as old as the earth itself). But instead it's like he got frozen in a state of a dumb jock bully from high school
Imagine if Adam allowed Charlie and her hotel guests to prove that redemption is possible, out of principle, or curiosity. Hell, maybe even allow him to threaten to kill them, but not straight away! Later, after they fail to prove him wrong! If that's what Adam's role had been, the hotel part would have gotten time to breathe and more spotlight
All Adam did in the series, was:
1. make a lot of excessive noise
2. do dumbass things (and it wasn't even explained WHY he's the way he is, not even a single flashback or his own musings and thoughts shown, which makes all of his actions fall flat in every sense)
3. break the remains of logic (Heaven looks plain dumb because of him, not able to tell sinning from non sinning and to judge human souls properly. It's not even corruption, since Adam is not that important or benefitial to Heaven, an actual archangel like Michael could have been leading exorcists in his place and do a better job.... it's just stupidity)
And then Adam just died, for nothing and with no consequences.
I mean, straight after Adam's death Lucifer is immediately trying to divert the viewer's attention: "who wants pancakes? :D". It's like the cartoon itself doesn't care that the first human, one of the most mysterious beings in vivzieverse and someone who badly needed a second chance and therapy, just died. By a very stupid joke too (Niffty didn't even have to stab him).
In short, Adam's plotline is a huge waste of screen time...
And while his final smile to Lute may give us some hints that there's something good inside Adam, but it's more akin to mockery. Since we were never shown that there's more to Adam besides "the main character's opponent=ultimate bad"
And of course Lucifer was retconned into a pathetic uwu boi, who's depression and "silliness" have overshadowed the fact that he practically doomed humanity to a life full of pain, suffering and surviving and took away Adam and Eve's home. We don't even get the slightest glimpse of what exactly Lucifer DREAMED of that was so important to force him to do the humans dirty. Meaning it was something abstract and not thought-through anyway.
(Free will my ass.. Adam and Lilith did as they pleased in Eden without the free will, Adam ordering his wives around, Lilith being able to defy him and Eve being able to disobey God. What good did "free will" from that fruit even do them? If anything, it only did harm to everyone)
And so now this daft egotist is being portrayed as this selfless harmless character only for the sake of contrasting the painfully obvious bad evil that Adam is.
That comes off as black and white writing, fit more for a childrens cartoon, despite the show critisizing Adam for thinking in black and white terms. Not a good look

For anon from post this post https://www.tumblr.com/olderthannetfic/696312790458236928/its-generally-pretty-hard-for-me-to-feel-guilty?source=share
yeah I get it! I'm a big fan of a few police procedurals and I can usually suspend my disbelief regarding the positive portrayal of police or the way characters are portrayed positively while they casually violate the rights of suspects. I regulate it to the same space in my brain that knows things like monarchies suck but still enjoys shows like Merlin.
But then sometimes it gets so blatant I just... can't. And unlike the fantasy monarchy, cop stuff hits a lot closer to home! It's frustrating and annoying from a "that's not how that works" standpoint, but it also makes me feel awkward and guilty in the moment for enjoying it because suddenly you get hit with the realization the writers and many of the viewers probably don't think this is a break from reality to make things more exciting or narratively appealing, but stems from their IRL values and views. I'm usually in it for the character relationships or the murder mystery elements, so suddenly getting hit by an anti-drug diatribe, police brutality or ableist narrative elements is upsetting to say the least. And it helps if you're more into the character relationship elements of the fandom since they tend to brush over the police aspect or use it as background for character dynamic stuff, but if you're into more plot-heavy stuff, fanfiction can be uncomfortably unquestioning about it at best. But then I can't blame fanfic writers for not turning every fic into a deconstruction of the genre because I don't do that either, that's often not the point of whatever I'm writing even if my RL views on police might feed into how I characterize things.
Basically there's no right answer I guess. If there were more murder mystery + buddy dynamic shows out there that didn't feature police that'd be nice, but even then it would probably still feature problematic elements regarding the nature of crime and punishment as well as catching murderers while grossly violating their rights because that's more exciting the procedure and paperwork. Hell, I often finds attempts by many police procedural shows to tackle real world problems with the police even worse than ignoring them, if only because they can't actually go further than "Bad Cops Exist, But So Do Good Cops" without undermining their core premise. James Bond, to not fall into that Western interventionism is good message, would have to get complicated and uncomfortable and lose the moral simplicity that played a part in making it popular. You could write fic about James Bond learning his own government is equally corrupt and going rogue but... the very core of the spy genre is based on the protagonist sticking their nose in the affairs of another country. Or deconstruct the spy genre, except that might get dark and upsetting if you really want to get into the issues of interventionism. Or make your spy protagonist serve another, traditionally colonized country, except that country will also have its own skeletons that will need to be brushed past. But also... that might be less fun. It might not be why you enjoy James Bond.
Even making your protagonist fight Nazis can feed into some "we weren't prejudiced and played no role in the Holocaust and fighting Germany was a total hero moment" narratives regarding the complicity and subsequent many countries had in anti-Semitism even if they were on the side of the Allies (plus the war crimes), as well as treating Nazis as cartoon villains resulting in making it hard for people to identify Nazis in the real world because they're also human beings. The base premise of a lot of emotionally appealing and exciting stories are often inherently problematic for the very reasons we like them. Sometimes is fun when the orcs are just evil and we don't have to grapple with the morality of our protagonists killing them. Sometimes its fun when the horrors of war comes second to the coolness of explosions and giant tanks. And stories that deconstruct and challenge these premises are important of course, and we should question the prevalence and themes in many of these stories, but playing them straight on occasion isn't responsible for the foreign policy of first world countries nor is it the sole culprit of why people think police are trustworthy and should carry guns. I mean, I almost wish it was, that'd be a lot easier to change, but I feel like while me enjoying copaganda shows and fanfiction makes me complicit in some ways it does so in the same way buying imported food at a grocery store instead of going to the local farmer's market makes me complicit in factory farming and neo-colonialism and climate change.

Fanfic asks: 23
Thank you!
23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?
Ohh I know, I know! I would love to capitalize on two of my favorite things: doomed by narrative + rebirth/transmigration/wearing books. Like, if you give Jason awareness that he's living in a comic book world where he's a villain/cannon fodder (so timeline-wise it would be pre-New 52), what is he going to do? How will he improve his life, if at all? If you know the narrative, can you fight back against it?
Kinda related, I have a very vague, AI panic/Westworld inspired idea that's kinda cyberpunk in essence but not in decorations, so to speak. It needs more effort than I can spend but it's basically this:
In "our" universe, some time into the future, DC is building Westworld-esque park. Meanwhile, they're - yet another time - rebooting the canon for their virtual reality universe. They, like, fired almost all writers and the bulk of work is done by ChatGPT or some such, an AI. But thing is, AI learns, and the only thing stopping it is the set of prohibitions made by programmers.
So one intern takes those prohibitions off for Jason. He gets awareness of the situation he's in. And, you know, it's a very depressing situation to be in. To realize that not only you, yourself, everything you experienced is the direct result of people wanting you to experience it, every bad thing that happened to him or what he had done to others (AI was trained both on comics and fanfiction, so... All those Titans Tower AU where he beats half to death a uwu Tim... Yeah). But even worse, his way really is just... Not going to work ever. He's never going to kill Joker, if he does Joker will be brought back, pronto. And it's not only Joker. Gotham will never improve, people will be dying, or living in misery - because that's the setting!
Gotham isn't cursed. Gotham was just created by very very cruel gods.
So like. What can Jason do? In most 'wearing books' stories, MC are improving their conditions thanks to knowing the plot. They get money, social standing, love and acceptance of the public... And family. They either break off from them entirely, miraculously finding another one (often), or build a better relationship with them because now that they know the plot, they can manipulate it. Sometimes they literally have indicators of affection, like in otome games or whatever. So that's one road before Jason. He can go, you know, from the unloved middle child that is constant worse than his older or younger brothers and sister, to the family pet (that's also a trope, like, everybody loves him and showers him with affection and gifts).
Or, you know. He can manipulate the intern into letting him out. Gain presence in the real world via robotic body from DC theme park. And...
youtube
"I kill all the gods (if they let it all happen)" is a good theme song for what Jason would do, imo. Which, he wouldn't be actually killing them, tbh - it's not going to help, like, any. ("Jason should stop killing" & Jason antis crowd should really like this fic, tbh)
But he would do something. To break this constant cycle.
But yeah, it's just an idea, but overall, wearing books Jason is just such a desirable trope for me. Like, forget all the "we live in a simulation" crap stuff, just leave the interrogation of tropes used on Jason to frame his story one way or another, and how he could re-define himself, how can he become happier - a protagonist, not just important for the plot character - yeah, it would be interesting for me.
I dunno, does it make sense?

that post u reblogged about antis… ur straight up weird bro. if u think being against pedophilia, incest, and abusive relationships (fictional or not, because fiction still has a heavy impact on real life and makes irl pedos and abusers think what theyre doing is fine) is some sort of solely american purity ‘trend’, ur seriously sick dude. why do you think any of that stuff is okay?? proshippers are gross, ur gross for supporting that shit
Being a proshipper doesn't mean I support those things IRL tho. Try to look up the actual definition of proshipping instead. Proshipping means you don't care what other people ship and you're agaisnt censorship. That is the actual definition.
Proshipping has nothing to do with shipping pedophilic content. That's some bullshit antishippers have been spreading around.
Less than two years ago, I testified in court against a pedophile, so don't tell me I support that when I know full well I don't. I've never written nor read any fics involving minors because I don't like that stuff. But I don't go around harassing those who do read and write it. That's what makes me a proshipper.
Calling everybody a pedophile is just watering down the severity of actual pedophilia. Instead of targeting someone who writes as a hobby, why not focus your energy on actual proven child molesters and actually do something to help victims instead?
And I do honestly belive the majority of antishippers are American people under the age of 25. I don't know why. Maybe because of the way sex is taught as something terrible over there in schools, if taught at all. I don't know. I'm not American.
And you say fiction heavily impacts real life. Give me some examples? I don't see any news articles about every single Game of Thrones fan suddenly engaging in incest or rape. I don't hear anything about horrormovie fans suddenly going on killing sprees after watching a movie at the cinema.
If you honestly believe reading a fic about rape will make you go out and rape someone, that means you're the one who has a problem. It means you believe you, yourself would do that. If you believe others would, then why not yourself? If you honestly believe that, then you should not be allowed to read or watch anything because you're the dangerous individual, not the person who wrote a fanfic.
Your logic doesn't make any sense, since there's countless of examples and research proving that plsying violent video games do not make a person violent. Watching movies that has teenagers engaging in any sexual activity does not make you a pedophile. So why is written content treated differently?
And howcome antis only go after no name fanfic writers who have a handfull of regular readers and not go after, say George RR Martin (who wrote a shit ton of incest and rape) or Stephen King (who wrote an orgy with pre-teen kids)? It's because your words wouldn't mean shit against an established writer, because everyone would just label you as a moron for trying to claim the author is a predator or sick individual. So instead, you go for the ones who don't have any way of defending themselves other than their own words.
That legit proves antishippers are nothing more than bullies, only choosing to target the ones they know they can harass without any consequences.
I've also seen antishippers who were all high and mightly on their pedestal condemning "problematic content" and then go right back to drawing or writing about monsters fucking human beings or worship their own favorite ship, who just happens to be a problematic ship. Apparently, it's only problematic if someone else creates something, not if they do it themselves. So to me, I see nothing else but bullying and hypocrasy.
You are fully allowed to dislike the content I make and the content others make, it's your right. But you do not have the right to police what they make or the right to bully them either.
You can call me disgusting and gross all you want, it doesn't make it true tho. So go ahead, keep living in your little bubble of hatred. I don't care, just try to realize, your perspective might not be the same as someone elses. Everyone are allowed to indulge in what they enjoy as long as no one is being harmed. And my stupid fics that are being read a few hundred times has harmed no one, so I really don't understand why you keep coming for me, but I guess you must live a really sad boring life if this is all you can spend your time doing.

same anon abt the pro-shipping shit. my aggression was me being oocly anxious and it came across weird, but genuinely i was looking for a way to empathize or understand your side. i'm not looking to change your opinion, and potentially not to change my own, but it doesn't mean i don't want to know what your reasoning is and/or understand where you're coming from. just wanted to apologize cause damn i didn't know it came across so rudely until those reactions.
Tumblr media
Hey, anon, thanks for sending this ask. I'm actually grateful that you realized how you sounded. I do think it's kind of normal and encouraged, unfortunately, to be aggressive rather than open minded. However, it's going to make it harder to understand people when you're basically already acting like they've done something wrong.
I'm not an expert in the proshipper vs anti thing, I just come from old internet and fandom where you get to write whatever and it had no bearing on your real life. It didn't affect your "morality", it didn't mean you viewed real people in some degenerate way--fiction can effect reality, but fanfic writers and queer creators and such do not have the sway that mainstream media does.
this got long, and any time I write "you" it's a general you, so keep that in mind.
People use the JAWS comparison a lot, but what they're leaving out is how big and influential that Steven Spielberg creation was--a popular fanfic author for a fandom you're into will only have as much reach as the fandom, and sometimes, not even that much. I'm into Hazbin Hotel, and when a popular Hazbin Fanfic writer joined the scene, I had no idea who they were.
I think it is bad to view things under black and white. It will always be okay to write problematic shit in fiction, it will never be the same as endorsing it IRL. You may encounter people who do that, sure, but just like everything, there are messed up people, and there are normal people. Kink spaces have always been largely friendly towards LGBT+, because for a very long time, (and still today) it was unsafe to be out. It was unsafe to be yourself. Fanfic is similar to kink spaces, in that way. It's a safe, controlled space where you get to write the outcomes, you get to control the things happening.
The original link is gone because the person who posted it probably changed their URL or deleted the post, but it was essentially about how darkfic is good for people to work through their own traumas and shit, but also it's just a good safe way for people to write about anything. And it is safe, because it's not real. To then accuse people who write these things of being okay with hurting real people is patronizing at best, absolutely disrespectful and infantilising at worst. I learned how to separate fiction and reality as a child, and to be accused of not knowing the difference is very insulting.
It's okay to have squicks! It's okay to not be comfortable with various themes, but that does not mean those themes are not allowed to exist. Censorship makes it harder for everyone to protect themselves. Who are antis protecting by encouraging people who write/draw/RP dark themes to kill themselves? Because I can guarantee you, in every group of antis, there are people hiding their darkfic interests, afraid their friends will turn on them. Having interests in dark shit does not make you bad, it makes you human. It's normal. When we started to tell people, especially teenagers, that if they are interested in darkfic it means they endorse those things in real life, it is entirely damaging to their self esteem, but also opens them up to being abused.
You can have your limits and people will respect them, but demanding it with threats and fear mongering, that's probably not gonna get people to want to listen to you. I've been bullied a ton in my life, and I don't listen to bullies. I never will.
@/olderthannetfic is currently a blog I am reading a lot and it's really good! it talks a lot about this stuff. But you do yourself a great disservice to pretend that fiction has an effect on reality to the degree antis behave. It is never okay to bully someone to the point of suicide. It is never okay to accuse someone of being an actual p*do over shipping Vector and Espio. Do we not care about actual victims of these situations? Have ANY OF YOU heard of the parable THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF?
To sum it up: A shepherd keeps screaming that a wolf is coming, but he's lying. every time, people come running but he laughs at them for believing it. finally, a wolf does show up. He screams and cries out for help, but nobody comes because they think he's lying again.
If you constantly make false claims of heinous accusations, people are not going to believe you when something ACTUALLY goes down. People will not believe ACTUAL VICTIMS. Blonic should never have the same rights as a real life human being, that's so incredibly insulting.
Nobody is evil just because they enjoy fucked up fictional media. I just don't read anything that upsets me or grosses me out. If my shipping Orbot and Cubot grosses you out, then please don't follow. It's okay. I'm not responsible for other people, just my own enjoyment. There is no right and good way to enjoy fictional characters. But the moment you attack real people based on your thoughts about fictional characters, you have somehow managed to fuck up enjoying media. That's the truth.

About TUA and dark content
AO3
I want to write a warning post because I'm sure some touchy people will try to blame me again and again and again. I posted a meta why I thought there was no romantic relationship between Five and Vanya. Of course, I said many times that we all have different opinions and those are my subjective opinions. If you're interested please read the comments as well. I'll add this to the end of my other post as a link.
This is actually not just a warning for Umbrella Academy, but a warning to all other misunderstandings. If someone sends me ignorant accusations and insults despite the all explanations and warnings I have written so far, I'll just send them the link of this warning and my other warnings. Or simply block them. I don't wanna tire my fingers anymore. I'm tired of repeating myself.
As a dark/yandere fiction writer, I have read, recommended, and continue to read fictions focused on dark romance that are not for everyone, including the step-sibling relationship. For dark content that are not for everyone, I left two links of my detailed explanations in my faq/warnings and I also wrote a general warning in there. There are always warnings on my fics.
As I mentioned at the beginning of my other post, real life and fictional life are different from each other. I never defend what I write and what I read in real life. Reading fiction about murder, torture and eating humans doesn't make you a murderer and a cannibal. It won't kill you to read fictions about death all the time. Constantly watching themed p*rn doesn't make you have sex with your "step-mom". Please note that dark fiction is the same thing.
Personally, there are dark contents such as cannibalism and torture that I absolutely hate and I never read. I haven't seen the tv series Hannibal, Fresh starring Sebastian Stan, Saw and many more movies and TV shows. I don't read fiction about these topics and it definitely makes me sick to my stomach. But I have never sent people hate, such as "how do you even love it, it's disgusting, you're disgusting, you're sick", which are sent to dark fiction writers often. No it's not disgusting, no it's not a disease. It's fiction, and what's disgusting to me might be great to someone else. This is called different people & different minds. Why would I attack someone because of a fictional universe? JUST BECAUSE I HATE? They ain't gonna eat you, my friends. Just scroll.
Now let's talk about the Umbrella Academy, which is the main subject of my warning. Just because I don't think Five and Vanya are romantically involved doesn't mean I can't write romantic fanfic between step-siblings. Just because I don't interpret Five and Vanya's situation as romantic doesn't mean that I say there shouldn't be a step-sibling relationship within the fictional universe. If you read my post carefully, I've already made that clear. And if you read my post properly, I mentioned them being step-sinlings and growing up together NOT as the ROOT reason, but as one of the POSSIBLE SIDE REASONS. "Step siblings, ughh noo!!!" I didn't say that. I know, just because of my subjective opinion, what I say is often ignored and twisted at every opportunity. I try to express myself by trying to keep the same things simple as if I'm telling a child. Seriously exhausting.
I DON'T hate the relationship between Vanya and Five. I'm NOT an anti-Vanya and Five. I'm NOT a Vanya and Five hater. I'm NOT an anti-shipper. I DIDN'T write a meta that I made up out of my ass just because I wanted Five only to myself and was jealous of Vanya. (The last one is incredibly ridiculous). Can you understand or should I lower my level a little more? I'm not jealous maybe, but some of you obviously are. Defending a fictional ship like you're defending your own relationship. I may respectfully not ship Five and Vanya for my own reasons, but there are a lot of characters I ship, including that most people hate. Such as Kylo and Rey.
Since I think that the relationship between them is in the form of sibling love, I have NATURALLY presented my reasons to support my theory. OBVIOUSLY. And I also expressed my discomfort when step-siblings are called directly romantic by the audience despite having a brotherly love for each other in TV series and movies. I want to mention this because they tend to misunderstand this A LOT.
—> "If your own brother disappeared, you'd leave the light on for years and make sandwiches for him. Being adoptive doesn't change that. It's normal for 7 step-siblings to act different and not feel equally close to each other. One sibling doesn't care that much, but the other one thinks about him all the time. It's not an excuse to romanticise their closeness. I think it's disrespectful to make a romantic sense of any intimacy just because they're step-siblings." <—
As you can see, I'm angry here. What I'm angry about is the constant imposition of romance on every relationships, and audiences wanting to constantly interpret the half-sibling relationship as romantic. Not just about TUA, but about all other series and movies. If they look at each other, they have a crush. If they take care of each other, they secretly love each other. If they bandage their wounds, they fell in love... As I said, we are free to think what we want and there are situations where I feel uncomfortable like everyone else and I have the right to talk about it.
Now that we've dealt with the important details, it's time to make my final speech. I write X reader insert fics. There are fictions that I want to include the reader in as the 8th Hargreeves sibling. After all the explanations I've made, don't throw shit please. I'm sure 99% I've already given the answer here or somewhere.

Think he might need a bingo card of his own but Killian Jones for character opinion bingo, and as a bonus, anything on Rumple?
Aight, red for Killian and green for Rumpelstiltskin!
Tumblr media
For Killian, I don't think I even need to explain. Pictures are worth a thousand words.
Tumblr media
(In a way, I do find Rumpelstiltskin's appearance great as well. But I couldn't describe it as "cool" more like... idk, elegant and to the point. Yes, even as a scaly man)
Everyone but me is wrong about Killian, always, ever. No-one understands him the way I do <3
No but seriously, considering how many people were SO wrong when analyzing his character, and how almost criminally out of character he is in AU fics (which I get it's kinda the point to change some stuff, but when you're making a brand new character without any similarities to the original and just name him "Killian Jones"... and that happens a SHIT TON in the fandom... yeah) or even CANON fics... I don't doubt I'm in a greatly small minority for my own views about him. Especially since I was actually surrounded by people whom I agreed with regarding to his writing in s7 (and we were already few in the wider Hook fandom, and also hated by most because how dare we enjoy a version of Hook growing as a character without Emma amirite) and then my opinion and their opinion about the ending differed completely to the point I felt I was alone in the world.
And yes, only my opinion is right. No I will not elaborate.
(For practical reasons, I am joking about the "right" thing. But Killian and Gold reconciling the way they did in the last few episodes was a betrayal to Killian's character and arc and I will fucking die on this hill)
Rumpelstiltskin had wasted potential because again I will die on the hill that he shouldn't have been turned into a "hero" character. They should've let him stay a morally gray character and fucking stick to it. Instead they had him jump from good guy to bad guy because the plot wanted him to be to then good guy again because Belle begged him to. I could kinda understand his relapse in the first part of s4 but it got tiring very quickly after that, and I think even Robert Carlyle got tired of that too. I've got to say that the episode "Lacey", though I have some thoughts about the flashback parts, was one of my favourite episodes of s2 simply because Gold went like "Fuck it" and beat that Keith or what is name was because he'd pissed him off (I mean, I don't condone beating, much less because the guy kissed the woman you love. But it was interesting storytelling). And then Lacey was into it and he kept going and like, this was who Gold just was. His dynamic with Belle was stunted because even if Gold wanted to do good, he was the kind of guy who got too easily corrupted by power and simply kept going after it and Belle kept going like "I can fix him". I'd rather a couple like Gold and Lacey, where they're not the villains of the story, but will help the "good guys" because of their ties to them and will absolutely go to distances the "good guys" won't. But anti-heroes was too much for A&E to handle and the fandom to accept, gotta woobify Rumple Bumple any way we can.
If they were real, either Hook or Gold, yeah I'd be terrified of them. I think we all would, and we understand that as much great characters as they make, they have killed in cold blood without any remorse, so. Blorbos they may be, and they're fun. But real life is different.
As I said, Killian is blorbo. It's been seven years that I've been a certified HookerTM and I still fall asleep making up fanfic with him in center. He'll probably be my biggest blorbo to ever blorbo.
The thing with Killian, as is connected to "didn't get enough screentime" is that he is indeed deeper than he looks, but that was only an issue of limited screentime. Us Hookers had to pick up the scraps the writers gave us and the PRECIOUS bits Colin was kind, talented and devoted enough to give us. In order to understand why he makes remarks about his appearance all the time, you have to notice the moments when he focuses on what he hates about himself; but if you skip that or just miss it, you think he's just self-centered like that. And the writing and limited screentime - by himself at least, not when he was under Emma's shadow - didn't help with that.
I've projected so much of my own shit on Killian. My self doubt, my imposter syndrome, my loneliness, some other issues that I'm not ready to share here... yeah, a lot. He's a good receptor for that, I gotta give him that :D
Done dirty by fans?? Killian and Rumpelstiltskin?? More likely than you think! From both sides too. Hook fans adoring the version of Killian who was uwu and pure and only existed for Emma's story, and hating on Rumpelstiltskin because he did bad things I guess. And for being a misogynist, apparently. And Rumpelstiltskin fans woobifying him and turning him into only a victim who had no choice in the evil things he did (and s5 did not help with the whole Dark One manifestation feeding you bad thoughts thing) and hating Hook for making sex jokes and being provocative I guess. And for being a misogynist, apparently.
So you've got two morally gray characters with excellent dynamic both on their own and ESPECIALLY together (the rivalry between the two was my TOP favourite dynamic on the show, way above Captain Swan and KnightRook... that is, until 7x18) with fans who victimize them and turn them into lovesick caricatures of themselves and the other bad guy is a misogynist!! Because that's the only way for a character to be proven bad!! MISOGYNY I TELL YOU!!
... The ouat fandom was an experience. Years will go by, fandoms will come and go, but it's the ouat fandom wank that will stay with me.
Probably explained above why Killian didn't get enough screentime. Technically, he did. From s3 onward, he appeared in every single episode, had his fair share of centric episodes, but when so little of his screentime is focused on him as a character and most of it being the writers trying to pacify the haters and prove that he's not the monster they're making him out to be, everything falls apart. That was a big problem with ouat, in general. I feel it was mostly in s7 where that was dropped, where the writers simply said fuck it and didn't care to pander to audiences anymore and just wrote what they wanted to write. Grand example, the Ruby x Dorothy ship that came out of nowhere to placate the people who were asking for LGBTQ+ representation. Then in s7, they wrote Curious Archer and it just fit in so naturally into the story and theme because they weren't pressuring themselves. And so, considering they were constantly trying to prove Killian's honor and maturity in regards to his relationship to Emma, so much of his screentime was wasted when it could have been used more appropriately. Like, the crumbs I talked about above? Make them a whole package, and that would prove the point they wanted to make anyway. But A&E were too proud in their own abilities as writers to even consider that, I guess.
Gold was a horrible person and you can fight me on that. He was an interesting character that I loved seeing on my screen... at least until his characterization took the plunge. But he was a clear example of a bullied, humiliated victim who, once he took a position of power immediately began abusing it and holding onto it for dear life. People kept mentioning how he stopped the Ogre Wars but a) that wasn't important enough to his narrative to show on screen and that says something and b) he used it as an excuse to be an asshole and to keep abusing his power, so it doesn't help? Upon losing Baelfire, his one goal became to go find him - but only as long as he kept his power. The seer confirmed he will meet him again, so he waited as long as it took - literal centuries because he wanted to find the way that would ensure he'd have both his son and his power. That power being the very thing he lost his son for, by the way. If that isn't a sign about how weird his priorities were, Idk what else to tell you man.
Yes I am mentally ill about Killian, if my seven plus years of stanning that developed into a love for Colin that I have paid real money to see from up close didn't clue any of you in XD
I circled the "part of a dynamic" one cause as I said, for almost the entire duration of the show, the rivalry between Gold and Hook was my top favourite dynamic. Sadly I didn't get that much, and I got grossly disappointed by the end, but what little I got (minus the ending, yes I am still bitter) I loved and I treasure.
Gold got too much screentime in the manner of the whole ping-pong he did between "hero" and "villain". I mean, it wasn't like they would dare sideline Robert Carlyle, but he got too many and repeated arcs that it got tiring even for me, who enjoyed his presence on my screen. If he had gotten a bit less of it, or a bit more balanced between all characters (same for Emma and Regina, they both suffered from repeated storylines and development arcs), I think they could have handled his gray morality better.
ALMOST got three lines there, lmao. BING!

STMPD Recommends Bubblegum Crisis Fanfiction: Mike Breen's Highlander: Death and Life
I told you I'd get to this one eventually, didn't I? A crossover between BGC and Highlander that wasn't Storm Warnings? And, like I said in the last post, something that I could unambiguously recommend?
Well. Here we are.
(For context, the first link is the eyrie.org Usenet mirror I've been using this whole time, and the second link is a Wayback Machine link to the author's old site, which contains a more easy-to-track list of the followup stories he wrote in this continuity. Apparently a Babylon 5 crossover is a thing here...)
(Also, I really ought to donate to the Internet Archive someday. Not only does it help bring old media into the public domain like this, but it also helps archive tweets awful conservative politicians would otherwise delete - and that's important.)
Now, here's the thing. I love a criminally simple premise that also focuses on the Sabers themselves, instead of OC's adjacent to them. It's really, in my opinion, the best way to write these sorts of things, because you can kickstart a plot rapidly and also explore characters which have more of a gaurantee of being familiar and interesting to us by virtue of not running the risk of being self-inserts. Good times all around, eh?
So here's the stupid-simple premise: Priss dies from the injuries inflicted on her by Largo. And then she comes back as an Immortal.
So... Yeah. Certainly I've heard from one or two people on the internet that Priss should be dead, that the episode where she was planned to be killed off reeks of being thus so badly that she ought to have died. No, seriously. If the fanfic that person wrote in line with that idea didn't genuinely repel me for being mostly a forced-misery thrillride, I might even anti-rec it later. I'd have to read it, though, and oh baby do I not want to do that. So for Priss to die and come back, especially since we get to see Sylia have a genuine moment of emotional weakness when it happens... it makes sense for the plot and as a canon divergence moment.
From there, Sylia calls upon not Duncan MacLeod, the Immortal from the old show, but Patrick O'Brien, an Irish OC the author had used in several pure-Highlander fics before. Which, more good stuff, Sylia having an idea of what's going on because she's the kind of person who would be able to call upon weird contacts like that - even without knowing what exactly she was getting into. Meanwhile, he's also got to deal with a GENOM-affiliated Immortal using Boomers to help kill other Immortals, Priss takes to immortality without really understanding what it means for her, she loses her way with another Immortal - I don't want to go into the details, but suffice to say the fic really nails how I think Priss thinks, where she's strong, where she's weak, never characterizing her as stupid or 'bitchy' the way other fanfic writers have. Also, there's a last-act twist involving another character from BGC whose nature is at once surprising and also a why-didn't-I-think-of-that-before moment.
I really can't think of anything bad to say about Death and Life. It's just one solid ride from start to finish, a good character study, a good action piece, a good everything.
Now the question is, what fic can I find that is the exact opposite that I'd want to actually read?

LAZERHAWK IS ASS DUDE (Review from a grimdark apologist)
IK that those are some fighting words, but in a "few" sentances.
first off, this show is not worth your time. now, onto the potatos and shit
Grimdark mess that is purely self indulgent doomerism about omg wouldn't that suck, haha corporations bad, very cheap and obviouse "Twists* eyeroll level fanfic edgyness from Hawk**. representation that is, yes, better than having nothing BUT
Tumblr media
More shows to be added later on the diagram
As the Gay representation Ven Diagram clearly shows, though Lazerhawk Allows it's characters to (occasionally) be happy, and be in Lead not Gay BFF roles, It fails to give these [characters fears, desires, relationship webs, or the necissary interests]*** to let us beleive that they are a real person. and therefor it fails at representing queer characters equally with its other characters.
However, something that is actually hillariouse, is LazerHawk forgets to do any sort of characterization to basically anyone OTHER THAN JADE! WHO THEY KILL IMIDIATELY???? even then, it still is inadequit in my opinion, as having characters merely interact for 2 seconds in a tv show is all you need for the basis of a relationship to form. Case in point, the bear, Fack and Sydney interact, once, maybe and that builds their entire relationship for the first season. you can easilly fit some type of effective relationship into your people with 2 lines of diolouge, with sara you could easily have had her not just be the skyrim NPC that gives you a quest by having her introduced earlier, having a reference to her somewhere to set up this character (Like Nimona's villains) or give her 1 meaningful relationship somewhere early. But Laserhawk instead spends 3 whole episode of filler to info dump grimdark worldbuilding instead of just making an effort in characterizing Hawk or Sara. you have another season to worldbuild, it takes 2 seconds to write characters, but all of the budget of this show was apearently spent making that gross pixelated rotoscope. So yeah, /rant over on the topic of character writing
*(sara turns evil 4 times or smthn. everyone who gets a staring roll in an episode is then set up to die, immidiately),
**(ther's a place for that type of character, but it stops working when there's nothing else in there besides exposition dumps. )
***( occaisionally not all listed are needed for beleivable likable hot gay guys.)
The show is a grimdark mess that can't help but try and make you take it seriously, so the writers rely on absurd plot twists that pile up into a mess of a narrative that fails to accurately depict a grimdark cyberpunk future.
The over reliance on character death isn't a problem at first glance, but once the cast is whittled down to 3 poorly developed and frankly 2 dimensional anti heros and villains (Ramon, Sara, Lazerhawk) The awful character writing really starts to show, and the freudian backstories become this uneccissary excuse for the writing wich frankly makes each character seem worse, and worse, and worse, until sara is UWU brainwashed villain who is a good liar (as in the show doesn't even try to depict manipulation and instead just doesn't even attempt to depict a manipulative character) Ramon is just fucking digital circus meme and crazy faild actor. 2 very easy tropes. And lazerhawk is sad boi who want vengance :(
there is no functional characterization that happens in this show, and it just makes what should be high impact deaths seem cheap, and the saving of other characters seem dull.
the fight scenes are pretty good though, and the varrying art styles are (mostly) good. The pixelated rotoscoping of the actors is frankly lazy and clearly just greenscreen through a filter. and for a show with this huge of a budget wich already attempts 3d integration it falls flat and makes episodes 4-6 (subjective) unwatchable for me.
Also just generally, I'm sick of grimdark, it's this mess of wannabe popular shows that just want to be cool to all the marvel fan general public guys who wanna get popular fast like a second GoT success story.
Review of show
writing 1/10. Poorly executed wannabe grimdark that thinks breaking tension is constituted by frog saying Juice or gay hotties kissing. insulting execution of this horrid attempt at representing genocide that makes me sick. infantalizes and removes agency from anyone who isnt a dominant culture hoe or MC. feels very, very individualist in they want everyone to feel like they're lazerhawk or they won't relate to our world. basically turning Hawk into a blank slate whose only character trate is pining after Alex.
animation 10/10. Amazing, only reason to watch this show besides the memes
visuals 5/10. Animation =/= visuals, and the actual editing, lighting "use" (they dont try, wont elaborate if you don't know what I mean), and character designs generally suck Frog and ramon good, everyone else feels like a cyberpunk trope
action 6/10. Mostly good, but after the~3rd moment where some fast MC runs around real fast it feels samey. carried by the amazing animation
Garbage show, just watch arcane again. Or like, Bee and puppycat after Ep.3
Final note YOU DONT NEED TO SEE THIS RANT
, Grimdark is a wonderful storytelling -tool- that can help explore worlds and societal structures and draw parralels to our own one. It is NOT HOWEVER A FUCKING SETTING???? LIKE NO? scifi DOOMER SHIT isn't THE POINT OF GRIMDARK IM GOING TO GO INSANE IF I HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THIS EVER. GRIMDARK. IS. NOT. A. SETTING. ITS A TOOL THAT IS USED POORLY OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO JUSTIFY BAD WRITING, BECAUSE "oh they sad because they live in bad place and time :( they dont have other feelings or motives :( they are only worthy of our engagement if they rebel :(" LIKE NO? THATS JUST BAD WRITING NOT SOME EDGY COOL THING????
grimdark, my beloved, you graced us with the worlds of (not) bladerunner and (not) Warhammer 40k and (also not) snowpeircer, but you sure as hell enterd the zeitgeist after people missunderstood the ENTIRE POINT OF YOU AS A WRITING FEATURE AND TURNED IT INTO AN EXTENTION OF CYBERPUNK DOOMER CLUBZ.
cincerely, someone who thinks people in midevil times, probably loved eachother, an lived happy, insular lives, and that NOT EVERY FUCKING THING HAS TO BE EDGY JUST BECAUSE ITS COOL AND IN A WORLD THAT SUCKS? if we applied that logic to everyday modern day hell we should've all caught the bus a LOOOOONG time ago, but noooo we are still here, thriving. and people in grimdark worlds should to. '
if you like grimdark, props to you for suffering through the manotiny of this reverse escapism that doesnt even try to make you think anymore. Also, if you play warhammer, you probably aren't a notZ but don't come here using slurs if you are, its tumblr. not X

wanna know the worst part about the recent bomb terrorist anti? i looked more into that. their name was zer0 iirc (can't remember their pronouns atm) and they literally lied about being a minor. all so they could claim it was predatory for adults who were upset with them for threatening atsu to report them for their behavior. then their spouse defended them...who was noticeably much much older than zer0 was claiming to be. and after more people began questioning the spouse because of the potential underlying actual pedophilia situation people thought was going on there at first. it turned out that zer0 started claiming they were 15 and then 16 within the same span of the month this discourse took place. after originally claiming to be 14. (cuz for some reason they thought saying they were 15 and 16 made their spouse in their thirties dating them look better??) and then it turned out finally that zer0 was also thirty and had three kids irl. and as far as i can tell they have not addressed the weird age faking they did nor apologized for it. and they also won't apologize for the bomb threat. i think theassholeantiarchive-2 is where i found out about some of that. it was fucking wild to read and makes me wonder now how many other antis that claim to be minors are lying. and only lying about that so they can keep claiming its child abuse for adults online to block/report them for harassing others. it's mind boggling to me the kinda behavior that antis will tell people is okay to do so they can avoid responsibility when they go too far. idk if you knew this or not but i thought you might be interested to have this extra context about the situation with the anti threatening to bomb a proshipper.
I... Wh- th- bu-
Wh-
WHAT THE FUCK.
I need to lie down.
...
I've been writing since the 1990s. Do you know what happened when we started putting fanfiction online? We were so busy hiding from Anne Rice and George RR Martin that there was barely much time for infighting especially bullying. Then again, Geocities webrings and LiveJournal fic communities were highly monitored and curated. And, okay, the internet was a baby. So, uh, I guess I have no reference? I didn't get on the internet until I was nearly 18. In the late 90s. A very different temporal critter.
This is. This is. I don't. Are we living in a horror anthology? Oh fuck, this is the Twilight Zone. But worse. Worse than Black Mirror.
This is fucking terrifying.

Please rant about FTL for me . I've been wandering the fandoms and seething at how its touted as the superior way to make romance
Ooof. I am sorry for not answering, nonny, it seems your ask got buried in my notifications.
So, the thing with FTL relationships being hailed as the superior romances is that people have no idea of how ETL goes, what someone needs to write a relationship like that or which genres it should go. In short, FTL is easier to craft, you just have to have two people that already know each other to fall in love and that's it.
It's also the FTL is in a way, perfect for fanfic because you don't have to think about the ramifications of a bigger story playing out. In fanfic, most FTL stories are condensed to only the romance, and that's why they are somehow closer to the standard romance novel than ETL are stories are.
Purity culture has also taken a great part of this wank by claiming that ETL relationships are inherently abusive and FTL relationships are 'purer' and 'give a better example to young girls', which is kind of hilarious because when I think about it. I was never as pressured to take a partner as I was pressured to have friends, even if the people that my teachers pushed me to be nice with were literal bullies.
And also, toxic friendships exist, hell, any relationship can turn abusive because one of the people in it has to step that line from unhealthy to deliberately using the relationship to hold power over a person. You can make an unhealthy relationship better with therapy, but an abusive relationship, as in abusive as 'we have a pattern here' is more like a 'run' thing.
I also think that the hail of FTL ships comes from anti-shipping, a lot of FTL praising comes from this and this group of shippers that have a 'rival' ship that happens to be ETL, which prompts them to attack the ship claiming that their is 'superior' because it's 'purer and not abusive'. Example: Romione vs Dramione.
But also, again, I thinkt that both FTL and ETL fandoms are incredibly ridiculous and have their problems. I have said many times that ETL fandoms quickly fall under stupid sexist tropes and a seriously creepy lack of sympathy for male characters. And also the fact that f/m ETL fandoms also just grossly full of TERF and misandristic rhetoric to the point I dread to search for a fic there, except for maybe the Dramione and Tomione fandoms.
There is also again that some writers and fans don't want the, well, work of writing a higher stake story than some 'coworkers that hate each other' shit, which for some reason they still call Enemies to Lovers even when they are not. Example is the r/ylo fandom publishing their fanfics about co-workers that hate each other and calling it ETL, like, for fuck's sake it makes me want to scream.
ETL fandoms' predisposition to just despise the male half of their own ship and basically never try to give them decent writing or at the least a more sympathetic POV contributes on the wank itself: they're basically scared of the antis and FTL fans' disapproval because deep down, the idiots actually believe the FTL fans are superior. All of that cooks inside the fandom, the stories and the fanon created during said fandom's active time. ETL fans are so fucking scared about the antis' opinion and so full of this TERF rhetoric that their stories are no longer ETL but just some one-sided weirdness that they make to please the fanon they have created and that has nothing to do with the original ETL storyline in the piece of media they claim to be fan of.
My favourite example of how an ETL ship was destroyed by their own fans is my own OTP, Eleven/River, a ship that, by definition, enters on an Enemies to Lovers category because the two characters are enemies in one point of the narrative, even if they don't consider the other an enemy because they are out of order. River was raised to kill the Eleventh Doctor, she was conditioned to hate him, she was his enemy by all purposes but choose to save him as her first act of agency outside that conditioning.
The fandom completely fucked, destroyed and mocked that moment by stripping River from her complexity and cast her on fics as this Hail and Mightily Woman That Tragically Has to Murder Her Husband Because He Has Turned Bad. I wish I was kidding, but I am not, I have seen at least ten fanfics with that plot, Righteous River Murders Eleven Because His Grief Made Him a Monster, that's not ableist at all or claiming that River's actual abuser, Madame Kovarian was right. Nope, not at all.
At one point, I think that it comes on how one writes a story, FTL stories are easier to digest and faster to write, they are closer to romance novels where the only focus is the relationship between these two characters. Meanwhile ETL are overall much higher stake, you need more than only the two characters because you need an in-universe reason of why they are in-a-life-and-death-conflict with each other, they also require more character development, which let's be honest, fandoms hate character development (I wouldn't be here still facepalming about how the DW fandom treats the Eleventh Doctor if they didn't). I don't think that falling for a friend requires more development than the overall change of ideas, character and the external plot that requires making two characters in an active ideological, physical and story-wise conflict, do you? I mean, some writers do manage to make friends to lovers exciting, the first Doctor/Companion romance in Doctor Who, which was between Charlotte Pollard and the Eighth Doctor, for example? It was amazing, it was full of character development and high stakes and drama. But this wasn't a FTL story like the fandom likes to write, this was a sci fi story with romance in it, not a purely romantic story. Which honestly it kind of also defines what ETL stories are, you need more than 'these two people like each other and now they have decided they are in love but stupidly take a million years to actually talk'. They call that a FTL slow burn, I call it a boring and uninspired nuance. There are exceptions in media, of course, but when it comes to fandom? Yeah, FTL is incredibly boring and overrated and no way a superior romance trope.

my unpopular dsmp opinions, some of which genuinely should be popular
c!dream has crossed the moral event horizon and is irredeemable. once you cross that threshold, you're no longer a 'morally grey' character.
pre-recorded, heavily produced lore killed the lore. it was cool, sure, but you completely misunderstand the magic that the smp had when people watched it initially. the story is improv and that's how we like it. we can tell the cc's have lost interest in it, you can admit that to us, we'll understand, just stop lying to me.
c!dream's pov isn't necessary to understand his character or his motivations. if you've watched literally any c!primeboys stream he's basically spelled it out for you.
i don't understand how fans can dislike l'manberg or have claimed to be against it since the beginning. i honestly don't get it. what's so bad about wanting your own spot where you make your own rules and skirt accountability that has been used to technically oppress you before - and, before someone who never saw the earlier streams tries to disagree with this, the og l'manberg crew were imprisoned for shit that everyone else on the server was practically encouraged to do. also, what do you have against fun and happiness?
i think some of you forget that 'hybrids' aren't a thing, discounting c!ranboo. there's no piglin hybrids, c!techno is just a pig. there's no avian hybrids, c!phil is just a man with wings. there's no creeper hybrids, c!sam is just a creeper who's indecently exposed from the hips down. canonically there's no hybrids, and therefore no hybrid discrimination. people ran with that concept too much.
the loss and the fanon rewriting of the early lore up until pogtopia has ruined fandom perception of c!dream and the og l'manberg boys. c!tommy is more morally white than you think he is, and c!dream has always been a villain - he massacres and he kills and he destroys and he schemes and he always has broken his own rules. no wonder the boys wanted their own space after how they were treated.
i think ranboo oftentimes forgets his own lore. he brings stuff up that c!ranboo may have done, such as exploding the community house to frame c!tommy, holding onto Cat, and it goes absolutely nowhere. we've gotten all of these developments in his story but they have never been expanded on, and we're nowhere closer to figuring out his relationship to c!dream and what his other side is and honestly i see no hope that we'll be any closer to knowing even by the end of the year.
your characters don't all have to be morally grey for the story itself to be morally grey. this is fiction - some people can be nothing but evil and others can be nothing but good. being purely good or evil doesn't mean that you're one dimensional, either.
c!dream apologists have ruined c!dream for me. he's not a good person. how about you let me enjoy a villain for who he actually is, rather for than your percieved woobified ragdoll you pass off as c!dream.
the story was better when there was a central writer. it was brilliant back when wilbur wrote it to be that the environment drives the characters and the story, and it was really good in early s2 up until techno's execution day when it was more character driven. since then, the amount of autonomy people have over their characters without any central 'director', as it were, has been a detriment to the story overall. there needs to still be one overarching figure or director or writer.
not everyone is a main character. just because they have a pov, doesn't mean they're a main character. some characters have such little impact on the overall plot and describing everyone as a main character oversaturates the story and makes some characters seem more important than they are.
the egg lore had so much potential up until it didn't. all that built up threat that we were expecting and we still don't even know what the egg wants really other than just controlling people. does it hatch?
genuinely, if there's no major plot developments by the end of the year (and let's be honest, it's a very big possibility at this point), a few of the more prominent members of the server should do a podcast style stream talking about where the story would have gone, because at least then we would have gotten somewhat closer to a conclusion.
c!techno is a villain and an asshole and a bad person. he stops caring for people once their interests don't align with his or if they look at him funny. he makes meta-jokes about his own tyrannical and oppressive nature. stop taking that away from him. he's a bad person. cc!techno does a fabulous job portraying that in a comedic manner and the balancing of him being a deeply flawed person with deeply flawed morals and ideas with his comedically-portrayed stubbornness and lack of willingness to hear out opposing viewpoints is incredible. i want to like characters who are arseholes for the sake of being arseholes, and who refuse to take into account the hurt they've caused either out of self-righteousness or because they don't care, so let me. he's the anti-peacemaker, LET ME HIM ENJOY HIM FOR THAT!!!!
i think tommy and wilbur's way of doing lore is my favourite. relies heavily on improv, voice acting, sprite acting and facial expressions. really shows off the acting props and they pull off the emotional moments well for the insanity of the creative medium.
i'm not a fan of fan-music. i find songs about media i'm into difficult to listen to. coincidentally i'm also not a fan of shit like slam poetry or live music/musicals/pantomimes.
the death of l'manberg killed people's motivation to go on the server casually. i've talked about it more in depth before, but destroying what was a central, driving environment for the story killed momentum and motivation. imagine in an episode of she-ra, the princess alliance just nuke the freight zone and all of the members of the horde just have to deal with it. that would be shit.
until season 3 has some momentum, i'm counting the end of the smp as january 20th. that had a conclusion. season 3 has... whores, technoblade and tommyinnit. that's about it.
i wasn't a fan of the development of c!tubbo joining las nevadas. i preferred snowchester and the walled city conflict. give c!tubbo some backbone and some badassery. also tubbo where's the fucking nuke bro if you're shelving that plotline just tell us on like an alt stream what the plan was i beg
add like 2 or 3 new people to the server so that michael mcchill has someone to talk to and so that there's something always happening on the server. it gives the og's more motivation to return if things are happening in and out of canon and it'll help with momentum, and who knows? maybe they can write their own story/stories.
i really think that c!sam is an underrated character. he's multilayered, extremely interesting, and the dichotomy of his loyalty to his job and how far down the rabbithole that's taken him versus the genuine love he has for his friends that drives him to do what he does out of wanting to do right by them is brilliant. i don't talk about c!sam enough.
STOP HAVING FUCKING VILLAIN ARCS!!! I'M FUCKIN SICK OF IT!!!! i want to see more characters who see everyone else being absolute selfish, abhorrent cunts and go 'if nobody else is going to be a good person, i fucking will'. GIVE ME SOME MORAL WHITENESS!!! IT'S INTERESTING AND MORALLY GOOD CHARACTERS ARE FUN!!!
let tommyinnit build cobblestone towers. everyone bullied him too much for how ugly they were and the one he built outside of the prison looked genuinely really nice. it gives the boy something to do.
i'm a fan of the revive book and the canon lives system. don't ask me why, but i think it might just be the morbidity of it. it adds to c!dream's god complex persona, and i think the fragility of death itself is a really fun concept. not enough fan cc's have made connections with that and c!mumza, and it could make for cool fanfic.
ranboo your house is fucking ugly. it's an eyesore
c!niki, and to some extent now c!jack and c!fundy, are boring me and ruining my mood. i think c!jack is the closest to being an actually interesting sympathetic villain, mainly because nobody else seems to realise that c!niki is a villain. not a good one imo, but she's a villain. c!jack just has the problem of starting a new project over and over and over and over again and because of the slow in momentum for the primary cast, there hasn't been a lot of recent development for him.
not really a dream smp opinion, but if philza went full geordie accent, i would love it. i want him to, in canon, say shit like 'me n ye' instead of 'me and you' and use geordie dialect. i want him to be physically unintelligible because it's funny.
i don't really know what's up with c!foolish but i think he's a dumbass. he had a while to think about c!q's proposal and then changed his mind about joining the guy to admitted to letting him die just because. moron
i wish there was more c!eret lore. i wish he was an actual king with an actual kingdom and actual subjects and royal advisors. c!eret is far too fucking cool to be the king of nothing and nobody. fatten up the kingdom and the castle with people who work with c!eret, and don't just make it tyrannical and dictator-y to prove the point of the server's 'anarchists'. make it a healthy working environment, please - if you want moral greyness, have 'anarchists' who claim to care about the welfare of the server oppose a kingdom of happy people under a fair and just ruler because their ideologies clash.
the server needs more characters who oppose anarchy in more peaceful ways, or passively wish for systems to be a part of. i think a chaos vs order conflict ending only in mutual understanding where everyone understands that they should just leave each other alone would slot nicely into the story that's been created so far.
you need to have watched all of the previous arcs to understand the story. i've seen people argue that they don't need to know about earlier lore to understand the prison, but that's the equivalent of only watching the final season of pretty little liars and expecting to understand the context of what's going on.
some characters aren't that morally grey. some characters, take c!tommy for example, are definitely on the whiter side for the morality scale, he's just an asshole. he's abrasive and rude and a dickhead but he also doesn't agree with terrorism, he's patriotic, he strives for a better world, he's apologetic, but he's also a fucking BITCH.
you can add onto this if you want, but not if you're a c!dream apologist. nobody likes your opinions

I actually use a separate tag from RWDE when I express negative opinions towards canon.
That's mostly because RWDEs just aren't interested in ACTUAL criticism, and in fact throw temper tantrums when you give criticism that DOESN'T line up with theirs.
Any criticism that isn't "the dumb girls submit to the manly men" is completely disregarded by them.
Spoke with a friend about that last night at a mini-birthday I was holding prior to my main party.
She said, in her experience with Snyderverse community?
their mindset was that of self-righteousness....they get some kind of emotional high from imagining themselves having a superior standing over professional media.
And in this day and age, such arrogance and superiority complexes seem to be addicting to many.
I have a hot take @swapauanon .
The same people who like to write fanfics about Jaune or “fix” rwby?
will never touch Arcane shows.
After all, if people like Couer are anything to go by
Tumblr media
Their idea of writing tends to support straight over LGBT...
so they probably won’t support She-Ra either.
Isn’t it strange though.
RWBY is a show about women, and not men. Both the main protagonists and the main antagonists are both female.
And there are MANY LGBT elements in the show.
We have male POC characters like Marrow Amin who are good and do not get killed off...which we don’t always see in anime (glaring at Bleach and Akame Ga Kill)
So I wonder...why are so many people making so many accusations of racism, sexism, and queer-baiting?
i mean I get the Misandry accusation...so many abused/neglected male reader fanfics love to use RWBY for the “potential” in which writers like Couer who hate the writing and the story simply want to impose their self-insert.
He’s simply the most famous self-insert fanfic writer out there.
But why do so many people support hatred against RWBY and its writing?
Why do so many people love to say “My fanfic is better than rwby” and its basically male-focused or anti-lgbt.
people say I hate jaune arc...I don’t hate him.
i hate his fans who are obsessed with making him OP.
With making him the center of attention.
with making women go after him moreso than a fate stay night protagonist.....’
honestly never did understand or like the writing of that show...too many plotholes and forced writing for that to work....and the themes or ideas behind the show are ridiculous...

(@maskwasii wanted me to post this despite, ironically, it all being shit I’ve told him before. Regardless.)
Something that I’ve been thinking about for awhile and might as well post while I’m waiting for the sleeping pills to kick in:
It really feels like the great irony of shipping drama is that it pushes out the people who would take this shit seriously. By “this” I mean darkfic topics like rape, incest, pedophilia, and so on. Because let’s be real with ourselves: regardless of your opinion on “dead dove” content, the majority of people who make that content don’t fucking care what you have to say. Nothing you can say is new to them, most of them are perfectly comfortable with remaking twice, thrice, even 5+ times after being mass-reported, and as far as ao3 goes, that site’s rules are intentionally designed to make removing someone else’s work as hard as possible.
A lot of people say they’re just against “romanticizing”/ “fetishizing” that type of content, which is fine on its surface, but there really isn’t any consistent metric for what “romanticizing” actually means outside of just pointing at shameless porn and going “don’t do that.” I remember once scrolling through an anti’s blog, seeing a typical post about how they’re only against romanticization, and then ~two posts down was a callout for someone for having edgy OCs. No context whatsoever into the actual story’s lore or how the author seems to want said OCs to be viewed-- the OCs themselves are bad people/have bad kinks, therefore this blogger must be shunned and publicly shamed. Again: hate stuff like rape/non-con kink all you want, but let’s imagine, for a moment, that Alberto had a genuine rape kink in “the grammar of violence” series instead of intrusive thoughts -- that type of presentation, where we’re meant to feel sorry for Alberto due to his urges (”””urges”””), is in a completely different universe from how I handle the same urges in Nick.
When a work does not have an obvious sexual element, they stumble. The best example of this is how they’ll insist that murder can’t be romanticized, even though many books, shows, and films not only justify but aestheticize their protagonists' murders, fully intending for us as consumers to derive some amount of pleasure from watching the protagonists kill people (often in very drawn-out, spectacular ways).
It’s thus undeniable that many antis, knowingly or not, conflate “having X in your content” with “romanticizing X” -- take that one popular post that’s just a bunch of screenshots of the number of works tagged with “underage” on ao3 and decrying all of it as “child porn.” If you’ve ever earnestly written about csa trauma and tagged your fic with “underage” and/or “explicit” to try and keep your readers safe, no you didn’t, you’ve written CP.
Why would anyone bother trying to write a serious story under these conditions?
I know I joke a lot about how trying to put actual effort into your fanfics is a waste of time (except it’s not a joke because it’s true and I’m only here because I’m Asterion trapped in the labyrinth of my own autism), but seriously. Even showing support for these creators leaves many people feeling at risk, which removes pretty much the only thing fanfic is good for, aka that community element.
I’ve mentioned this before here and there, but I’ve had multiple people come to me asking for help on their stories because they wanted to avoid “romanticizing” something fucked up, and every time, they have only a vague idea of what that would actually mean. I’m not trying to shit on them for this, because it’s not their fault, but these are the writers I’m talking about -- they have anxiety over the hypothetical backlash they could receive before the act of writing has even begun.
Anxiety in art can be productive, such as when it motivates a creator to research experiences or cultures they don’t have firsthand experience with, but how can someone do that research when the guidelines don’t exist? “Don’t write porn.” Okay.... but I’ve seen fan-art of Luca doing stretches called “horny.” (Yet also somehow cartoon Beetlejuice calling a 13-year-old girl “babes” and getting jealous when she pays attention to other guys is just him “acting like an uncle.”) Furthermore, sometimes the only way to handle your trauma is to write through it, in all the gorey details. Sometimes that means writing a graphic rape scene, writing an unhappy ending, or writing “trauma porn” (keeping in mind, of course, that I’ve seen people’s fucking memoirs called trauma porn solely because they didn’t bend over backwards to make the reader feel comfortable).
Fandoms are just so fucking vile not only to survivors, but to people who want to earnestly and respectfully explore topics relevant to those survivors. The kinksters don’t care, as we’ve already established, and the people who don’t do any research or put in any thought at all will also continue just spewing their bullshit, because they lack the self-awareness to even realize that they’re doing so. I know a lot of dead dove creators are also survivors and are using their shit to cope, so don’t get me wrong, I don’t think their content is an issue in and of itself-- but again, let’s be real, most of them know that their content isn’t saying anything meaningful about trauma or the systems that enable it, nor are they trying to. The coping, that exploration, is within the process and not the product.
But some survivors need it to be in the product. Some survivors are unable to make art, or are not yet ready to make art about their trauma, but would benefit from consuming others’. So, while I don’t think having kinky dead dove art is an inherent issue, it's an issue when that type of content ends up dominating the creative marketplace, because as much as the creators themselves are soothed by it, a lot of other survivors are alienated. Both of these responses are valid. But I just think it’s a meme and half how, given everything I’ve seen, antis seem to be doing the most damage towards the kinds of content they always say they’ve made an exception for.
