Hi everyone, even though I don't really like to post non-WordGirl content on my blog (this is actually the only reason why I made the account), I would like to make this post as a warning to those who receive donation asks, especially those who answer even unvetted ones.

After school, I received a donation ask from a user called cherrylydia/Emily Mwelu in my inbox. Of course, there is a very serious error at first glance. It is strange that a person of the Arabs would have a name mixed with English and African, because even if they are not Muslim, the Arab non-Muslims have Arabic names too, some Christians being named 'Abd al-Masih (Servant of the Messiah).

Another lie I found is that the blog uses GoFundMe tags, but I copied the hyperlink and this is what my clipboard says:

I do not know if this one is even a big issue, but the Palestinian blogs use GFM, not Paypal.

Anyways, please be cautious of the blogs you answer and the posts you promote or reblog. I would advise to make sure that they are actually vetted by trustworthy sources (some examples being 90-ghost, el-shab-hussein, nablusi) and do not put up their blogs just because they say "I am Palestinian." Once firm proof exists, then do so.

It is disgusting that people will use the suffering of the People of Palestine for their own worldly gain.

Any asks sent to me which beg for donations will be reported as spam. I have not and will not donate to any tumblr fundraiser Using the ongoing genocide in Gaza to steal money is repulsive. I have four seperate messages in my ask box from people claiming to be Palestinian refugees and asking for funds. This is a widespread problem and its gotten absolutely out of hand. These messages users at risk of being swindled and Tumblr needs address this.

Edit: I've turned off my asks, theyve become inundated. This feature is completely unusable. If you'd like to reach me you can send me a message or a comment.

Since there's a uptick on donation asks I been receiving recently. But, I don't have many followers here (I have around 150~), so I want to post the links from my pinned in their own post so that these donations asks and reblogs get more eyes on them beyond my following.

Note: I don't vet the gofundmes, I only try to reblog and answer donation posts with information if they were vetted or not. My goal is to get as many eyes on these as possible, but with a low follower count, this is not enough. So, hopefully with this posted in the related tags, these donations posts and resources will get spread further.

As a rule, I do not reblog donation posts. Here's why:

Many of them I am not able to properly vet and verify myself, and I do not want to run the risk of promoting a possible scam.

While there are blogs dedicated to vetting and verifying here, I do not know their methods, and I have no way to verify the thoroughness of their vetting.

I do not have money of my own to spare, and I do not have a significant reach to push to a larger audience.

If you are a legitimate fundraiser and you need money, I do not recommend you try and gain traction on Tumblr of all places. Tumblr famously does not have a traditional algorithm - most users do not use the algorithmic dash options and prefer to keep it to who they already follow. It will be much more difficult for your post to gain traction, even if you use popular tags - incorrectly tagged posts tend to be ignored as spam, no matter how legitimate your post may be, because that's what the spambots do too.

Platforms that have traditional social media algorithms such as Instagram, or even dedicated aid communities such as on Reddit, may be a much more reliable option if you need money. Tumblr donation posts don't tend to go far - especially if your blog looks suspiciously like a bot blog. There's a reason a lot of Tumblr users block blogs with blank profiles or AI-generated posts - because that's what the bots do. New users who only post about a fundraising campaign also often resemble bot blogs or scam blogs.

I'm not saying you can never crowdfund on Tumblr, or that it never works. Sometimes, every little helps. But it's not reliable.

So if I don't reblog your donation post, don't take that personally. It's not automatically an indictment of you as a person. It does not automatically mean that I don't think you deserve help or aid. It just means that I cannot in good conscience promote your donation post.

ETA: Note that GoFundMe only supports a very limited amount of countries. If a campaign claims that the person withdrawing funds is directly withdrawing them from a country or region not on this list, it is very likely a scam. Yes, some people will withdraw money from abroad, and send it over to the person or people in need, but if someone claims to be directly withdrawing from a country or region not on this list, then do not assume that there is someone elsewhere legitimately withdrawing and distributing those donations. Those assumptions are how you get scammed out of your money via good will.

My name is Caiden, and I've got a cat who was born May of this year. Her name is Trixie, and she originally was in my gfs parents yard along with her siblings.

As a baby, she injured her eye and it was in need of vet care. Luckily, she recovered with eye drops and was able to keep the eye at the time.

On October 1st, my other cat accidentally scratched her in her bad eye while they were playing. Trixie was taken to the vet and needed her eye removed.

The surgery and medications came out to a little over $1600 and we are struggling to pay it back.

Luckily, she is recovering beautifully but we need help. If you're able to even donate $1, it'd mean the world to me.

I reblog very few fundraisers for a reason. #1, scams are rampant on this site. #2, I often don't have money to donate myself and I don't want to pressure my followers to do something I can't do myself. I am a graduate student with a horse, a medically complex cat, and a real life that I'm often struggling with. I don't share that here for a variety of reasons.

Please don't come into my inbox and ask for money unless I know you. I've had to start blocking people because I'll get 10, 15, or even 20 asks a day from perfect strangers. I'm sorry, but I don't know you and I just can't afford the risk right now.
