So I recently figured out that I’m Asexual and have been telling my friends and the responses have all been along the lines of:
“Cool”
“Yeah thought so”
And my personal favourite
“Yeah I already knew” <- I did NOT tell them before. They just worked that out themselves
I am both absolutely flabbergasted that everyone else knew before me… I wasn’t even aware that I behaved so much like an Ace, and also really happy that my suspicions are being validated by the people around me!

Black/Racial Coding Doesn't Equal Racial Stereotypes
I can not believe we live in a society that genuinely believes racial coding = 'stereotypes but woke'...
Y'all, racial stereotypes are overexaggerated and meant to generalize a group as a whole....
Yes, racial stereotypes are technically coding, but that doesn't mean racial coding itself is based on stereotypes. [Think square = rectangle but rectangle =/= square.]
If it was all the same, you can not create any characters with a race because anything can be a stereotype by their POV.
Gave your white oc straight hair? "Racist. Not all white people have straight hair."
Gave your black oc dark skin? "Racist. Not all black people have darker skin."
Your character comes from a place with a language other than English, and they dare speak in that language? "Racist. Not every person knows their home language."
All of these rebuttals in isolation are correct, but context is extremely important. Yes, if someone claims an entire group of people have to look like XYZ to be a certain race, that's stereotyping. Making characters who happen to have very common traits among certain races, specifically the one they're meant to represent, is not.
You can literally spin anything into being racist if you view characters with this amount of malicious intent.
Getting so butthurt over someone simply calling a character X-coded (especially when it's confirmed and extremely obvious) is so incredibly dumb.
Getting mad at people critical of an X-coded character because there's no traits for people to actually connect the dots (without reading an outside source) is also extremely dumb.
TLDR: Racial coding is simply giving characters traits to represent a certain race. Racial stereotypes are still coding, but that doesn't mean racial coding itself is inherently stereotypical. Otherwise, every depiction of race is a stereotype and/or racist.

Ok so i like things and i like making headcannons because they're fun. So why not post headcannons I've decided.
What series? One Piece DnD by Rustage. At least until ive covered every prominent character. I'll probably do this in order of thumbnail art so we start with William Emanon D Chapston, the dumbass captain, incompetent rouge and adoptive father of significantly better rouge
Tumblr media
Spoilers below for One Piece DnD and One Piece(the series)
• William is kept awake at night by his decision when he got to choose any power and could've saved everyone and instead just summoned people
• Following on from that, Atom, Helios and Louis all somewhat haunt his dreams, as well as the moments they died
• After seeing what happened to Blake he began to repeatedly say things about saying no to drugs to Doxie, which is always met with a lot of "i already know that"
• Doxie came up to him one day after the crew disbanded and showed him the news about Ragnar which caused him a lot of distress over doing nothing about his addiction
• William tried to make a plan to cure Ragnar but ultimately realised that it'd never work
• He gambled a lot after learning about Ragnars spiral and almost lost everything. He cheated last second and barely won and then stopped gambling to cope after being persuaded by Doxie and Boss
• He (alongside Doxie and Boss) meets up with Verona, Lyssa, Pearl, Cyril, Gravy and Jimmy from time to time. Usually most of the meet ups are seperate but they all get together for special occasions like birthdays
• They also all meet up once a year on Louis' birthday and mourn him.
• They all met up after they learned about Ragnar and discussed the news. Ultimately they decided it was best for him and them to just stay far away
• William, Doxie and Boss all do revolutionary army work in the Grand Line.
• He helped Belo Betty with her power by using his inspiring leader speeches as a basis
• He wasn't liked much by Kuma at first but eventually they became friends and William began to get better as a result
• He no longer furiously kills old people
• He is held in high regard in the revolutionary army for killing a celestial dragon, even by people like Dragon although he doesnt admit it
• He's not great at showing it but he's very proud of Doxie
• He has cried on more than one Father's Day over stuff Doxie has done for him
• He has escaped from 4 marine prison ships. Him and Doxie have a competition over this and he is losing

Long day today. Syd had her second doxy injection, and since I'm having car troubles that idek if i can afford to repair, I had to place pickup orders for groceries, so I was up all night doing that. Waiting for the last pickup. My inspection is due this month, too lmao.
Vet suggested getting her a smaller cage with a removable bottom tray for recovery so I need to rely on someone donating one, or donating the money for me to buy one, on top of the rest of her visits. This vet recommends hormone blocker implant over injections. Will discuss with specialist in 2 weeks.
Since we're treating this like psittacosis (bird chlamydia, not like std) we also have to test me because it's transmittable to humans, and I may need treatments too. Lovely, eh? I don't even have a primary care physician because mine left and my case worker hasn't done a single one of her jobs.
My mom's been moved from the hospital to another nursing home, further from home. If she stays longer than 35 days, she'll be considered long term and they'll take her check. That means I won't be able to pay any bills and I'll end up losing everything.
Every day is such a struggle. Idk wtf to do anymore. I'm so exhausted.

Dealing with a person who has some major unacknowledged personality disorder traits—of the narcissistic/border-line sort…
The absolute one-sided, self-centered perspective of reality—I see it in my patients so often, and I’ve glimpsed episodes in this particular friend over the years. But never to this extent, and so flipping disconnected from reality, where they accept absolutely no responsibility in their actions. And when the people who’ve tried to help them out mention their own particular commitments, or boundaries, regarding the situation that’s persisted longer than it was ever meant, bc of a lack of clarity in communication—that, I’ll admit both to parties sharing some responsibility (although, the BPP person certainly won’t…)—and the reactive hostile vindictiveness…omg. They’ve said their part, and we’ve said ours. Trying to reframe their actions in terms of the lack of clarity, and completely inaccurate portrayal of topics discussed is like trying to truth-sandwich an anti-Vaxer. It’s pointless, bc their version of realty is so self-absorbed, and detracts from any constructive trouble-shooting. Their poor dogs, who are the subject of this vague-post, where we’re (my partner and I) are trying to get our friend to get her damn (but actually very sweet, fairly low maintenance, but have literally been staying with us for 6 fucking months already) dogs, while our friend/ex-friend decided amid a mid-life crisis, they would up and drive 1/2 way cross-country to buffoo-NewMexico, thinking this was The Great Life ReSet—then, decided, literally after trying it for 6 wks in NewMexico-Life wasn’t happening quite as planned, and upped-n-hauled back to New-Fucking-England. En route, mentioning they needed a place to leave their dogs till they could get set up in a new apt.
Bad foresight on my part, not specifying a time-frame we were willing to watch them for (in the Midwest, btw—no where near NewEngland….). 6 months was not a part of this dialogue, till after they tell us they signed a lease on an apt, but the catch: “Oh surprise! They won’t let me have my dogs. So, as a favor to you guys, I told them I could only sign a 6 month lease bc I just couldn’t be away from my little shmoopies that long, for a full 12 months. So, it looks like you’ll be watching them into the spring (wtf??? That hadn’t been mentioned…)”. Btw, this friend is a working professional in healthcare, at a pretty cush teaching-hospital in NewEngland—not homeless/jobless/salaryless/or skilless—they can afford the $450-900 pops for their ketamine infusions, every 1-2x/month, but lament how hard-up they are financially, unable to afford a place that’ll let them have dogs. We’ve attempted to politely inquire as to any updates on her living situation a few times, in the last few weeks, especially as this 6 month lease is up in early April, and supposedly, her current landlords were considering letting her have her dogs, so she could finish out the coming 6 months on her lease. Or, bc—well, you know—finding a place, and moving and all that…also, well, we’re going out of country in early April, and we don’t want to be responsible for her dogs needing a boarder. And they’re not our dogs. She’s covered the cost of kibble (2 long-haired doxies, not that expensive anyway, but appreciated from our end), but we’ve done all the other doggy things you do when you’re not a turd, and you’re caring for fur-babies. However, We already postposed/wrote-off a few fall trips that had been in the works/planned bc of her sudden crisis-mode, and the changing goal-post of duration for which we were meant to be watching her dogs originally. So, bc we heard nothing in the last 2 months, in terms of time-frame, touching base on dates of when she’d be able to out to get her “shmoopies”, (for the record, we’d even floated the possibility of driving them out to her once she had a better idea what her plans were…), we sent an email mentioning upcoming dates that we were finally planning on going abroad to visit a friend (in 2 months, btw—about the time our friend was/is supposed to be out to get her dogs), and we were trying to figure out what game-plan was. She tells us she’s already put in for vacation, and only had a certain select number of days/dates, end of March into April, that she could be out, bc it was already approved by her employer, and there was nothing she could do to alter that, and if the dates didn’t work with our plans, well that was on us bc this is what we’d talked about in a conversation 2 months ago.
um, yeah, I don’t need to say here—this was not how that particular topic was mentioned 2 months ago. We’d batted around a general time-frame, with the understanding we’d be revisiting the dates more specifically around now, before anything was set in stone. We had no idea she’d already made plans—didn’t even know she was planning on staying with us, or she was intending to visit at that time. And proceeds to blame this whole situation on us…
Anyway—I have every sympathy for the shit-pie she keeps referring to in every-other paragraph, regarding her life-choice consequences in the last 5 years, and I hope she finds a place in her life, at some point, where she feels more in control of her circumstances. We’ve tried to help her, to the extent we were able, in the way she’d seemed to ask, but the rule of thumb with Narcissistic/BPersonalities is—the moment you mention you’re own commitments, or boundaries, they’ll come back at you, blaming you for failing every expectation of what they expect from a friend…
enough said—personal rant done…

Dreams from 17.8.24
Dream 1: I was about to do an exam. Time in this dream seemed to flow as with waking life, so it's like I was actually there going through this. I walked into the hall to find a seat. It was communal tables where people sat in groups instead of the usual exam conditions where you have individual desks. Most of the tables were full and I approached a table where a guy (but don't know irl) was sitting that I had some history with, but didn't like. I think he make a few jabs at me and I tried to sit as far away from him as possible. Somehow I had notice of what the exam question was going to be and so I had prepared an essay in advance and memorised it. I knew this was the only way to pass since I am terrible at thinking on the spot. I looked inside my pencil case deciding on what writing utensil to use. I had a mechanical pencil and lead refills which weren't in a case, just lying at the bottom. The lead was thicker than usual. I though it would be a good idea to use a pencil since I'd be able to erase things but I was still undecided. I asked the girl next to me, Should I use a pencil or pen? She was like, When have you ever needed to erase anything, just use a pen. I think she was trying to say that I'm a senior student who has been doing exams for awhile and should know what's up by now. I took her advice. But then the pen turned into a flat type of rock and when I looked around everyone was writing their essays with this rock and it was normal.
I was trying to remember my pre-written essay to write it down but I couldn’t. It didn't help having all these people in close proximity, which was distracting and there was just random noise happening like people talking and stuff. I couldn't remember any of it. I tried to think of things to write on the spot but I just couldn't at all. I got so frustrated that I burst out loud telling everyone to shut up and they did. But it didn't help, my memory was shot and so was any creativity. I ended up writing some stuff but I knew that none of it made any sense. I had no idea what I was saying. I didn't even re-read what I was writing because I knew it'd make my anxiety worse knowing it was not good. I knew the essay I'd pre-written was so much better. A bunch of time passed and I'd almost written a page. I think the duration of this exam was 1.5 hours, around that. Then I realised that the essay I'd prepared was right there, slotted into my exercise book. If only I could just take a peek, just to jog my memory but there was no way I would be able to do it without getting caught. The teacher even came by and reprimanded me for using the exercise book to write in in the first place. I should have used a loose page. He said, There’s all sorts of things in there that would be helping you out. He didn't know I had the essay in there but he was talking about notes from classes. He wasn't happy but he said, Give me two 25 word paragraphs and you’re done. I said, Ok.
I'd still barely completed a page and it was terrible. I was writing a new paragraph now trying to a expand on a new point which I had mentioned at the start. I realised I had hardly addressed any of things I said I would in my intro. In the intro I made mention of 5-6 things to discuss. I just kept thinking about how my sentences were so disjointed and my handwriting looked so weird, like a child's scrawl. Even the chick next to mentioned it when she looked over. I said my handwriting changes sometimes especially when I’m stressed. This feeling came over me, like I was cheating but not in the typical dishonest sense. It just did not feel like 'me' doing this exam, it's like I was cheating myself. My mental faculties were just not there and it's like I'd anticipated this happening.
(This is basically what happens to me irl, but exaggerated to bring the point across. I've always struggled with 3D when other people didn't)
Scene 1: A bunch of travel medicines, was it for me? Yeah I guess I was going away. I saw doxy (malaria prevention). wasn’t sure I needed them but took them.
Scene 2: "An active mountain is moving closer to your house"

Dachshund Dog Breeds: Temperament, Lifespan, Grooming, Great Care Advice & Training
Dachshunds are scent hound dogs that were bred to hunt badgers, rabbits, and foxes. Dachshund groups were even used by hunters to track wild pigs. Their flexibility makes them excellent family dogs, show dogs, and small-game hunters today.
But don't let this puppy deceive you. This diminutive, drop-eared dog may be "half a dog high and a dog and a half long," as noted literary critic and humorous writer H. L. Mencken put it, but it is tough enough to take on a badger. They got their names from this (Dachs means badger and hund means dog). You could know them as Wiener Dog, Sausage Dog, Doxie, or another of their many nicknames.
Tumblr media
Introduction
The Dachshund, often known as a "wiener dog," is a breed that dog enthusiasts all over the world adore. Because of its distinct appearance and energetic demeanor, it is a popular family pet. In this essay, we will discuss the Dachshund's history, characteristics, training, care, and cultural significance.
History
The Dachshund was developed in Germany as a hunting dog. In German, their name means "badger dog," referring to the fact that they used to hunt and track small animals, particularly badgers.
Dachshund differences: The Dachshund breed comprises dogs with smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired coats. These various coat styles provide potential owners with options while preserving the breed's distinctive characteristics.
Characteristics
They are easily identified by their long body, short legs, and long snout. Their coats might be smooth, longhaired, or wiry, adding to their individual charm.
Characteristics: They are recognized for their vigour and bravery. Despite their diminutive size, they have a strong sense of resolve and are generally noted for their bravery.
Characteristics: These dogs are recognized for being devoted to their owners. They may be wary of strangers, which makes them excellent watchdogs.
Dachshunds are available in two sizes: standard and miniature. A typical Dachshund weighs between 16 and 32 pounds (7 to 15 kg), and a miniature Dachshund weighs 11 pounds (5 kg) or less.
Lifespan: They typically survive 12 to 16 years, but with proper care, some can live even longer.
Socialization and education
Early Training and Socialization: They require early training and socialization to avoid behavioral problems and to get along well with people and other animals.
Positive reinforcement training, in which the dog is rewarded with goodies and praise for good behavior, is an effective method for training a Dachshund. Patience and constancy are essential.
Common behavioral issues and how to cope with them:
Because they are so attached to their owners, they often become anxious when they are separated from them. Crate training, gradually increasing the dog's alone time, and providing exciting toys can all help to solve this problem.
Maintenance and upkeep
Common Diseases and Symptoms: Because of their length, they are more prone to back problems, which can lead to intervertebral disc disease. Obesity can exacerbate these issues.
Dietary requirements: They require a well-balanced diet to keep healthy and at the proper weight. It is preferable to feed your dog a limited amount of high-quality food.
Exercise Requirements: Regular exercise is essential for preventing obesity and improving overall health. However, they should avoid excessive jumping and activities that are harmful to their backs.
Grooming and Hygiene: Different Dachshund coats require different grooming. Its with smooth coats do not require much maintenance, while those with long or wire hair should be combed on a regular basis.
Breeding and reproduction: Ethical breeding is all about selecting healthy partners to breed with in order to keep inherited health concerns to a minimal. Good breeders are concerned with the health of both the parents and the puppies.
Where to buy and adopt: It is advisable to go to recognized breeders who care about the qualities and health of the breed. Another nice thing to do is to adopt from shelters and rescue organizations.
Media Coverage of the Dachshund
One of the most well-known Dachshunds is "Sausage," the beloved pet of former US President John F. Kennedy.
The Dachshund has appeared in many films and television shows, usually as faithful and charming creatures.
Representation in the Media: The Dachshund's distinct appearance and energetic demeanor are frequently shown in various forms of media, demonstrating how they truly are.
Conclusion
Finally, the Dachshund's popularity can be explained by its distinct appearance, vibrant nature, and unwavering loyalty. They are a terrific addition to families of all sizes because they used to be good hunters and are amiable. The Dachshund continues to live up to its reputation as a vivacious companion with the proper training, care, and breeding.

Henry Cavill Master List
Sitting in the backseat of the car, Ivan huffed. Arms across his chest, Kal laying quietly beside him, his head on the boy's lap. He was not amused by his parent's Saturday excursion. In the front seat, Nell checked her phone, looking at emails and appointments for the upcoming week. Henry had his eyes on the road, navigating through the small city with expert care and attention.
Saturdays spent as a family were supposed to be fun. Ivan wasn't exactly having fun. Grumpy all morning, he hadn't turned his scowl upside down once. Whatever. His parents didn't seem to notice or care that he was in a pissy mood. Why should they?
When they'd left home, Henry had mentioned going to the next town over, but didn't really say why. Nell had been too worried looking for paperwork. Ivan wasn't stupid, he'd heard them in the office last night. They thought he had gone to bed, which he had, but they didn't know their son had gone back down stairs for a drink. Walking by the door, he'd stopped, originally to say “good night”, again but decided to hold out.
Ivan laid his head back on the seat, Kal nestling in for the remainder of the ride. How could his parents do this to him? The bits of conversation had replayed in his mind all night.
"But if we adopt, then we know it's a girl." Sighing, Nell rubbed her eyes. "I am outnumbered."
"Yes, but what if we can't find the right girl?"
Ivan furrowed his brow, listening through the cracked door. His parents were clearly discussing something that would be a huge part of their family, yet chose to leave him out?
Standing quietly for a few seconds, trying to peep around the office door, he saw Kal sprawled out on the floor. Sleeping soundly. At least his position wasn't going to be given away.
"And we will need to take him. I don't want to bring him home a sister, to find out he's pissed off." Henry continued.
Gee, thanks dad. Ivan rolled his eyes, tears stinging.
Inside of the office his mother's chair scraped the floor. Time to move along. Quietly rushing to get upstairs, before he was caught.
They were adopting and didn't even bother to ask how he felt? What if he didn't want a sibling? What if he was content being an only child? Nobody had bothered to ask him and it hurt.
“Almost there,” Henry announced. Ivan huffed, Nell hummed, and Kal sighed. “Not the response that I was expecting, but okay.”
“I'm excited, I'm busy is all.” Nell glanced at her husband with a warm smile. “Someone has to keep you in costume and Ivan on track.”
“Whatever.” Ivan muttered, rolling his eyes. So now they pretend to care.
“When we're finished, do you want to go for a walk and grab something to eat?”
Leaning around in her seat to see Ivan; Nell smiled. “What do you think wild boy? Should we grab something to eat after? I hear they have a great sushi place just around the corner.”
“Whatever.”
“Is that all you can say today?” Nell raised her brow.
Ivan shrugged.
“Well, then. I guess you don't have an opinion, then we will go wherever we see fit.”
“Why ask me where I want to eat, you didn't care to ask me if I even wanted to come.”
“We thought that you'd enjoy an afternoon out.” Henry answered, checking that he was clear to make the right hand turn. Pulling into an empty space, he killed the engine. “We're here.”
“I'm excited.”
“I'm not.” Grumbled Ivan in reply to his mother's enthusiasm.
Leaning over, Henry was the one turned to face his sullen son. “Okay, before we go in. Care to tell me what's going on?”
In the back seat, Ivan tried his best not to allow his tears to fall. If they began then they may never stop. Dramatic? A little. He couldn't hold it in any longer, his parents had truly hurt his feelings and trust. Why had they not trusted him to tell him the truth? If he hadn't heard them talking, would they have simply brought another child home and told him to deal with it?
Sniffling, he wiped his hand across his cheeks. How silly did he look?
“Ivan?” Henry prompted, gently reaching out to his son.
Shrinking away, Ivan continued to sniffle. Shaking his head, Ivan opened his mouth to answer, but only a sob came.
“Are you okay? Ivan, you can talk to us.” Encouraging her son, despite her heart clenching, Nell tried to smile.
He had been out of sorts all morning. Taking it as he was annoyed to be woken so early, Nell had ignored his bad mood. She'd figured it would change, when they arrived to meet the puppy. On the seat beside him, Kal laid with his head still on Ivan. Nudging him gently with his nose.
“You didn't even ask me, how-how I felt.” Ivan whispered.
“Felt? About what? Are you not feeling well?” Concern etched Henry's face.
Ivan shook his head. “About adopting. Why? Why would you do that and not talk to me? A sister is a pretty big thing and you didn't even ask, if I wanted one.”
In a second, Henry could nearly feel his heart breaking for his son. Clearing his throat, he rubbed the back of his neck. Nell sprang into mom mode. Taking over, giving Ivan a soft smile and passing back a tissue from her bag,
“Oh, wild boy.” Cooing, Nell shook her head. “No, I think you have it wrong.”
“Do I? Oh really?”
“Yeah, we're um...we wanted to keep it a secret, in case Kal didn't get along with her. But then we were so excited, we had to bring you. Ivan, we're here to see about adopting another dog.”
“A dog?” Ivan sat up his interest fully engaged. Henry laughed and nodded. His mood changing faster than a speeding bullet. “A dog? We're getting another dog?”
“Maybe.” It was only fair that Henry laid down the rules now. “If she and Kal get along, then we will take her home. For a week. If they manage well, then she is ours. If they don't, then we have to bring her back. We didn't want to tell you, because we wanted to surprise you.”
“You better like her.” Ivan gently booped Kal's nose. Kal snuffled and yawned.
“I wish you had told us, how you felt. Oh god, I'm sorry.”
Last night, while in the office, Nell had heard a creak outside the door. Assuming it was another feature of the older home, she had ignored it, continuing her conversation with Henry. Shit. Now she felt terrible. How Ivan must have felt, beyond her comprehension. No wonder the poor boy had been in a rotten mood. Assuming his parent were making life decisions and not bothering to inform him.
“It's okay mum.” Ivan shrugged, “I shouldn't have assumed.”
“Wild boy, we would never adopt another child, without talking to you. Honestly.” Nell informed her son, her caring smile growing.
“Unless something changes, drastically, we will never have that conversation. So I think you are safe.”
“But I thought you wanted more kids?” Eyeing his father cautiously, Ivan wiped his nose on the tissue and snuffled once more. His tears dried on his cheeks.
Henry shrugged, glancing at Nell and smiling. “Once upon a time, I would have loved to have a dozen kids. But, I think that time has gone. You're older now and I know that you enjoy being an only child. Besides, your mum and I don't have that energy anymore. Chasing small children, it's too much work.”
“Well, now that we have this cleared up. Shall we go meet the potential, puppy?”
“Yes, please.” Ivan sprung up, grabbing Kal's leash to get the big dog out of the car. Opening the car door, he shuffled out to join his parents, promptly handing Kal to Henry.
A shift in his mood, Ivan could barely contain his excitement, asking his parents all kinds of questions. The short distance from the car to the shelter didn't give them much time to answer, but Nell did her best to fill in any information that Ivan was requesting. They had found the puppy on the website, not really looking for another dog.
Her name was Tilly, she was almost a year old, an energetic doxie pinscher mix. Her mother rescued a few weeks before Tilly and her two brothers were born. Ivan didn't even have to see her, to know she would be the best dog – best small dog – ever. Clearly Kal was the best dog ever. Henry allowed Kal a few minutes outside, while Nell and Ivan went inside to inform the staff that they had arrived.
“Mum,” Ivan whispered standing beside her, in the lobby, waiting for the assistant to join them, “I'm sorry.”
“It's okay, wild boy. You have nothing to be sorry for, but the next time come talk to me. I don't like it when you are upset.” Nell wrapped her arm around him, kissing the top of his head.
“Mrs. Cavill?” A tall woman asked walking into the room. Nell nodded and smiled. “Hi, I'm Aly. I'll be hanging out with you today.” She glanced at Ivan and smiled. Carefully looking passed Nell, she shifted. “You mentioned bringing your dog?”
“Yes, he's outside with my husband. It was a bit of a drive up. Can you go let your dad know that he needs to come in?” Nell ruffled Ivan's hair.
Nodding, Ivan did his best to control his excitement, reminding himself to walk towards the door. Calmly, he took a breath. Spotting Henry and Kal on the small patch of grass, he waved opening the door to call his dad. Excitement, contain. Breathe. Ivan straightened his posture before walking back across the office to his mother.
“He's coming.”
“Do you want to follow me in, when he comes in then I can have them sent back?”
“Sure, sounds good.” Following Aly behind a set of doors, Nell and Ivan walked hand in hand. It was not at all what Ivan imagined. There were no rows of barking dogs, instead it was a calm and quiet group of rooms. Each one with large windows and a door. Inside the floors had patches of fake grass, tile flooring, and a few toys.
“The last time that you were here, I know that you and your husband had met Tilly and Anduin.” Holding open a door to one of the rooms, Aly addressed Nell. Ivan raised his brow. So his parents had been here before? “Did you want to bring them both out?”
Slightly blushing, Nell gave the assistant a sheepish smile. “I'm not going to lie, I really adored Tilly. I agreed to bring Anduin out, to humour my husband.”
Ivan giggled. Of course his dad would have wanted to meet Anduin.
“Ah, I understand. Okay, well I am going to get Tilly. You can make yourselves comfortable.”
Ivan sat in one of the plastic office chairs, swinging his legs lightly, his feet not that far from the floor. Nell stood in the corner by the floor to ceiling window, watching for Henry and Kal. Humming contently, Ivan tried to picture what this new dog would look like. She would certainly be smaller than Kal, not even the size of Kal's leg. He giggled at the idea of the little dog bossing the old bear around.
Would Tilly like them?
“What's Anduin like?”
“Huh?” Nell turned her head to look at Ivan, she had been lost in her thoughts of upcoming projects and school sport schedules.
“Anduin, you said that you only saw him because Dad wanted to.”
“Oh, he's a nice dog. But he's big and bouncy, he's still young and they said he had a bit of an aggression problem to work through. I'm sure he'll make someone a great dog, but he's not what we need. Not right now.”
Ivan nodded in understanding. As much as they loved Kal, one big dog was enough. He sat looking around the room, when he and his mom spotted Aly at the same time. Taking a step back from her post, Nell held out an arm to Ivan, indicating she wanted him to join her.
Entering the room, Aly had a small dog in her arms. Licking her face furiously, the dog wagged her tail, excitedly enjoying the interaction.
“Here is Tilly,” bending to sit the puppy on the floor, Aly smiled at Ivan. “Why don't you take a seat and get to know her?”
“Mum, momma, mum.” Ivan tugged on Nell's sleeve. “This is the best surprise.”
“I'm glad you're excited.” Nell kissed the top of his head. “Do you want to play with her? Get to know her a little, before Kal comes in?”
On the other side of the windows, Nell caught sight of Henry and Kal approaching. Kal looked around cautiously, following Henry into the small corridor. Nodding to his wife and giving a slight wave, Henry smiled. He would wait right where he was, until asked to bring Kal in. Kal sat at Henry's side, watching through the window, a slight whine when he saw little Henry playing with the ultra small dog.
Sitting down on the floor, allowing the small brown dog to climb on him, Ivan giggled. Her whole body shook with her tail wag, as she bounced on and off of the boy's lap. Aly smiled, watching the two interact.
“They certainly get on well.”
“Ivan loves dogs.”
When Henry and Nell had come to see the dogs, it had been Henry on the floor giggling like a child, while the puppy had climbed all over him. Nell had joined in, sitting and tossing the ball for both Tilly and Anduin. But Ivan was by far the one in his true element.
“Let's see how Kal does, shall we?”
“Of course.” Nell waved for Henry to bring Kal in.
Opening the door, Henry gave a gentle tug on Kal's leash. The big, black and white dog was hesitant to enter the room with the smaller creature. She was full of the zoomies and her bark was fierce.
“Kal.” Henry called to his companion. “Come on. It's fine.”
Reluctant, Kal shuffled into the room, snuffling and snorting. Making sure to keep Henry, Nell, Ivan, and the strange woman between him and the small fur missile. The small brown dog darted around Nell, between Henry's legs and right up to Kal. Pulling back on his leash, Kal was wide eyed. No! No way! She was growing closer.
Without warning Tilly stopped a few inches from Kal, reaching out she sniffed his foot and took off. Too concerned with her return, Kal was having a hard time relaxing. His fear was soon soothed, when Nell reached down to offer him a biscuit. Oh so now they were buying him off with food? Eh, fair enough.
“Why don't you pick her up, then she's not as bouncy.” Aly smiled at Ivan.
Scooping the puppy into his arms, Ivan smiled when she began to instantly lick his face. “Tilly.” He giggled, holding her out to his dad.
“Come here, sweetheart.” Henry accepted the puppy. She was tiny compared to Kal, even as a baby. Henry smiled holding the wiggly body, trying to control her enough to let Kal get a proper look. “Look Kal, see the baby.”
Kal huffed, sinking down to the floor. His head resting on his paws. How dare they.
“Have a look, bear.” Henry encouraged the older dog. Bending down with the puppy, he laughed when she licked his chin, giving playful bites. “She's okay. Easy fella.” He steadied Kal, who had lifted his head a little. Sniffing towards the puppy, he sat up. His head tilted slightly. Henry eased Tilly closer.
Reaching out, she yipped in Kal's face, but didn't shy when his big nose poked her in the belly. Licking at Kal, she wagged her tail fiercely.
“I know that you love being the only dog, but would a friend be terrible? She's a friend. Not a chew toy.” Nell eyed Kal.
Huffing, Kal sniffed the puppy once more, before scooting back as Henry let her go on the floor. Instantly zooming around the room, Tilly bumped into Kal. Reacting less dramatically, Kal groaned and flopped down onto the floor. His eyes following the puppy, his desire to chase the small creature almost void. He was too old for this shit.
“I think we should take her home, what do you think?” Henry glanced at Ivan.
“Yes, please.” Ivan nodded eagerly. “What about you, Kal? Do you want a sister?”
Kal huffed. He didn't care one way or another.
“I think we will definitely be taking her.” Nell smiled. Stooping to scoop up the puppy, she scratched Tilly's ears and smiled wide.
“Your mum has a new mate,” Henry nudged Ivan in he side, gesturing to Nell snuggling the puppy.
“Maybe this means she won't bother me so much to do things.” Ivan snickered.
“Don't bet on it,” Nell smirked, she'd heard their chat. When would they learn, she heard everything.
Settling the final paperwork, gathering instructions, and all the legal work that went with adopting dog had taken mere minutes. The shelter were efficient, set up, and knew their business. Henry admired that. Nell had been the one to find them, assuring him that they were reputable, reliable, and a decent place to work with. She wanted nothing but the best, when it came to their newest addition.
Thanking Aly, posing for a few photos – as was custom for the shelter, when an animal found a new place, and making sure they had all of their paperwork, instructions in case Tilly needed to come back. Ha! They were on the their way, the five of them.
Kal led the way to the car, he had snacks waiting and needed to finish that nap he'd been taking. Henry opened the door, allowing Kal to get situated, before Ivan and Tilly joined him. Giving the big dog word of encouragement, telling him how fantastic he'd been with the entire thing.
“Mum, momma, mum.” Ivan bounded towards the car, at his mother's side “I'm sorry for being upset this morning.”
“You have nothing to apologise for, wild boy.” Carrying Tilly; Nell wrapped her other arm around Ivan. “But do me a favour, the next time you want to eves drop, come to us before assuming things.”

Juliet coughed loudly, pressing a hand to her chest. She shook her head as George laughed, taking the bong from her.
“Looks like Juliet’s the little bitch tonight,” he teased, nudging her with his knee.
She flipped him off, still coughing from the large hit she had taken. Fred laughed, sprawled out on the bed.
“Come on now Georgie, let’s not tease our princess,” chuckled Fred, a teasing grin on his face. “Let’s just be grateful she prefers this over lines.”
“I’m versatile, Freddie.” joked Juliet, taking a gulp of her glass of water.
The three continued passing around the bong, until their limbs were fuzzy and their eyes were red. Fred stayed on the bed, while George sat on the floor with Juliet, who was leaning against him. She had her eyes shut, relishing in the feeling she had missed.
Remus wasn’t fond of her smoking, but he never strictly forbade it. She supposed that would be hypocritical of him, considering he partok in it himself. Only after a full moon, he would claim, but she could smell it from his bedroom just about every other day. Either way, he wasn’t here now to chastise her.
“All I’m saying is, we should explore space ourselves,” blurted out George, startling Juliet and Fred, as it had been quiet for some time. “Could you imagine the properties of moon dust? Bet we could find a use for it. I bet it would make for a killer sleep potion.”
“Why’s that Georgie?” Fred questioned, rolling over so his head was hanging over the edge of the bed, his long red hair tickling Juliet’s arm. “You just assume it would make for a sleeping remedy just because it’s the moon?”
Juliet laughed as George turned to glare at Fred, his eyes wide. “Freddie. It’s the moon.”
“So with that line of thinking, venus would make for a love potion, right?” questioned Juliet, adjusting herself so she was lying on the floor, her head in George’s lap. “Because Venus is a goddess of love?”
George snapped his fingers, looking down at Juliet with a dopey grin on his face. “Someone gets it!”
“If anyone can figure out how to get to the moon it’ll be the two of you,” Juliet murmured, shutting her eyes as George lazily ran his fingers through her hair. “The smartest idiots I’ve ever met.”
“I would love to disagree with you, but I feel that compliment was high enough to overshadow the insult.” mused George, as Fred laughed.
A knock was heard on the door then, and George quickly pushed the bong under the bed, while Fred swished his wand, the haze and smell disappearing. Juliet sat up slowly, her mind foggy from her high. George and Fred had very high tolerances, she did not.
Ron poked his head through the door, his eyes narrowing. “What are you lot up to?”
Juliet couldn’t stop her laugh from tumbling out, a grin spreading across her face. George wrapped his arm around her, tucking her head into his chest. She inhaled deeply, loving the smell of fresh linen and cinnamon that seemed to be embedded in his clothes.
“Just discussing our future endeavors,” Fred grinned at Ron. “Care to join us?”
Ron shook his head, stepping away from the door. “Mum’s got dinner ready. She’s going to be right mad when she sees you lot.”
“Mum, mad at us?” George questioned innocently.
“Why would she ever be mad at us?” Fred finished, the twins glancing at each other in fake innocence.
“Blimey,” Ron rolled his eyes. “Your eyes are bloodshot. She isn’t stupid.”
“Well, ickle Ronniekins, you best run along now,” George shooed his brother away, waving one hand.
“We have to look presentable, don’t we?” Fred stood from the bed, walking over and shutting the door in Ron’s face.
“Molly’s made dinner?” questioned Juliet, suddenly ravenous. “I really hope there's mashed potatoes.”
“Your girlfriend’s going to blow our cover.” Fred muttered to George, smirking as he took a bite of a cream colored candy.
“Not my girlfriend, Freddie.” George reminded his brother, pulling out the same candy, handing one to Juliet.
She swallowed it whole, nearly choking as she did. Her eyes tingled for a moment, and her mind became slightly less hazy.
“You guys perfected your emergency chew?” Juliet asked as she stood, George giving her a hand.
“Had to, with the lack of privacy in our family.” Fred grinned, opening the door. “Ladies first, George.”
The three went down to dinner, which went fairly well. Ron, Hermione, and Harry kept giving the three of them funny looks, and Sirius also kept glancing at Juliet with an odd look as well. She found it bearable to get through dinner this time, ignoring how Sirius and Harry laughed with each other.
After dinner, everyone dispersed, Fred and George to go work on ideas for their joke shop, Ginny and Hermione to help Molly clean the foyer, Sirius to feed Buckbeak, Ron and Harry to do something. Juliet hadn’t paid much attention.
She found herself back in the Black family tree, sitting on the floor and writing a letter to Draco. It would be the first summer she hadn’t seen him or their friends, and she found herself missing them. Hopefully Draco was doing alright.
As she wrote the last line, she felt someone staring at her. She glanced up, brushing her hair behind her ear, to see Harry standing in the doorway looking as if he had made a mistake.
“Can you leave?” scowled Juliet, raising a brow.
“I wanted to talk to you,” Harry walked further in the room, glancing at the walls. “Are you still mad?”
“No,” Juliet scoffed, rolling her parchment up. “I just don’t want to talk to you.”
“You’re being dramatic.” Harry stated, crossing his arms as he looked down at her.
“Dramatic?” Juliet snapped, standing up from her spot on the floor.
“Yes,” insisted Harry. “Your dad loves you, he’s here, and you keep making this harder for him. For everyone.”
“Are you that much of a prat?” cried Juliet, throwing her arms out in frustration. “Do you even realize what you’ve done?”
Harry opened his mouth to respond, but Juliet cut him off, stepping closer to him, invading his personal space.
“I’ve been waiting, years, for my dad to come back,” she breathed, her voice catching in her throat. “Turns out, he only came back for you. He isn’t yours! You are taking away the one thing I’ve ever wanted in my entire life. I used to dream about him coming back, and grew up on stories about him. Guess that wasn’t enough. He wanted you.”
“He wants you too!” Harry exclaimed, becoming heated. “I’m sorry it feels like I’m taking him from you. I never had a father. You had Remus, the Weasleys. Although I would never take your father from you, I’m not going to act like he isn’t there for me.”
“Get out,” Juliet said quietly, balling her fists up at her sides. “Get out!”
Harry left quickly, striding down the halls. Juliet sank back down to the floor, wrapping her arms around her knees. She rested her head on them, her long hair falling around her like a curtain. Tears burned her eyes, but she didn’t let them fall. She kept them shut, sniffling quietly to herself.
“Hey kiddo.”
She looked up to see Remus enter the room, his hands in his pockets as he walked over to her. He knelt down by her, sitting down with a grunt. He put an arm around her, rubbing her back.
Juliet lifted her head, wiping her eyes. She crossed her legs, leaning her head against Remus’ shoulder. He rested his head against hers for a second, before digging around in his pocket.
He handed her a chocolate frog, smiling when she laughed. “Chocolate makes everything better, eh?”
“According to you,” Juliet pointed out, unwrapping the frog and taking a bite. She got Dumbledore on her card as usual. “Thank you.”
“I know it’s hard,” Remus paused, taking the card and packaging from her, slipping it into his robes.. “And I’m not going to defend your father. However, I wanted to give you my thoughts on it, if that’s alright.”
Juliet nodded, chewing her chocolate.
“As I’ve told you many times before,” Remus began, ruffling her hair. “Sirius and James were best friends. Your father lived with him for quite awhile, when he ran away from here. He spent twelve years in Azkaban, reliving his worst memories over and over again. He finally got out, and Harry saved him. He owes a great deal to Harry for saving his life. I think, sometimes, it’s difficult for him to separate James from Harry.”
“So you think he’s mental?” Juliet looked at him, doubtful.
“He spent a long time alone,” Remus shrugged, glancing down at her. “Dementors were his only company. I think that’s enough to make anyone a bit touched. Just.. try not to be so hostile.”
“It’s part of my charm, dad,” Juliet murmured, shrugging her shoulders. Remus smiled at her, ruffling her hair again. “It’s my Slytherin sparkle.”
“Not this again,” Remus groaned, standing up and holding a hand out to her. “That same Slytherin sparkle that had you charm every room in the house green? That had you attempt to keep a pet snake? And dye my hair green and silver?”
“The silver highlights looked dashing against the green,” she defended herself, taking his hand and letting him pull her up. “Also, Cornflake didn’t last long. How was I supposed to know garden snakes shouldn’t be house pets?”
“Garden snake,” Remus grumbled, shaking his head. “Thing was nearly an anaconda.”
“That’s just your memory going.” clarified Juliet, placing her parchment into the pocket of her robes.
Remus nudged her shoulder as they left the room, laughing. They walked into the living room, where the Weasley’s, Hermione, and Harry were busy attacking Doxies. Juliet raised an eyebrow at Fred when he slipped one into his pocket, slapping George’s hand.
“Brought you another helper, Molly,” Remus motioned towards Juliet, winking as she gave him a look.
“Thanks,” she muttered under her breath, pressing her letter into his hand. “Can you send this to Draco for me?”
Remus nodded, ruffling her hair once more before saying his goodbyes. Juliet joined the cleaning task, spraying the doxies until there was none left. They began taking the bags of various dead creatures out of the room, everyone filing out until Juliet and Harry were left behind to grab the final three bags.
“Harry,” Juliet addressed him, nodding his way. He paused, and looked at her warily. “I don’t want to keep fighting with you. I understand it’s not your fault. It’s just hard for me to see my father prefer you over me.”
Harry looked as if he were going to say something, thought better of it, and nodded. “I’d like it if we could spend more than five minutes together without going at it.”
Juliet scoffed, giving him a small grin. “I wouldn’t go that far, Potter. Can’t lose my edge, now, can I? Draco would absolutely die if we became friendly.”
“Is that a downside?” Harry quipped back, smiling to soften his words.
“Potter has jokes?” Juliet mused, taking a bag of dead rats. “Keep that up around Draco, it’ll keep him on his toes.”
Harry laughed, and they left the room with the last two bags, leaving a clean room behind them. Harry kept their conversation going, surprising the Weasleys and Hermione, who had been expecting the two to tear each other's throats out.
Perhaps, Juliet thought, Harry wasn’t so bad.

So this just showed up as an ad for me. Don't know what algorithm put it there, but wtf.
Do yall know what this stuff is. It's an antibiotic. I (and many others) was prescribed this for the first 90 days I was in Afghanistan to prevent malaria. Other times I've seen it used was for when people were exposed to highly pathogenic bacteria while necropsying sick animals. Other uses, to treat venereal diseases caused by bacteria.
What I'm saying is, this stuff can really mess you up. It doesn't target a specific single bacteria, it indiscriminately wipes out many bacteria it comes in contact with.
Now, that may seem good right, kill the bacteria causing whatever, but there's a reason antibiotics are for a relatively short term and require a prescription. Not only will it kill the "bad" bacteria, but it will also kill off a lot of your "good" gut microbes, which is really bad in the long-term. We're in a pretty symbiotic relationship with our own microbiota. If you've ever been prescribed antibiotics, you've probably experienced the effects of killing off all the bacteria in your GI tract i.e. diarrhea, malaise, maybe some depression, and a whole host of other side effects. That's because you don't have the "good" bacteria helping you with your digesta. You're not getting all of the nutrients you'd normally get because your ingesta isn't getting fully broken down before passing through you.
Another downside of killing off all of these bacteria, they provide provide an immunologic barrier for you, meaning they have established populations that require resources to sustain themselves. Having an established microbiota makes it harder for a new "bad" bacteria to establish itself before the immune system can mount a strong response because they have to compete for limited resources with a strong well-established gut population. This is one of the main reasons yogurt is a suggested post antibiotic food, it has those good bacteria in it and it helps to reestablish a good gut microbiota. If you wipe everything out though, this provides the bad bacteria with a chance to take up residence and potentially make you VERY sick or even kill you.
Finally, this seems like it'd be a pretty unsupervised deal. We already have a problem with antibiotic resistance from people not following through with a complete antibiotic regiment. Can you imagine what can happen if a bunch of people are taking this, experience the side effects, and then stop taking it. It'll make stronger, more pathogenic bacteria that will cause a lot of harm.
What I'm saying with this is, please be careful with what you're buying online. While low dose doxy is a treatment, it'd be in your best interest to consult with a dermatologist in person to verbally discuss your options.
TL;DR version: doxycycline is an antibiotic that's used for a lot more than just acne.
Taking it without first consulting a doctor can lead to much more harmful effects than clearing up acne.

TW: Mentions of death and kidnapping
The Trio can’t believe it - Y/N is gone. She has been kidnapped. “What now? She’s gone! Malfoy bloody took her!” Ron exclaims, quite panicked.
“We only have one option. We have to tell Dumbledore” Hermione states as she sighs. Everybody nods in agreement. Luna and the six Gryffindors then run to Dumbledore’s office.
When they reach it, Harry says the password out loud. “Lemon pie!”. However, nothing happens.
“What? What’s the password, then?” Ginny asks, confused.
“I don’t bloody know!” Ron yells in frustration.
Hermione gives an annoyed sigh. Dumbledore has probably changed the password - again.
Meanwhile in the office, Dumbledore is discussing with Snape, McGonagall and Lupin how the training sessions with Y/N went. “So, how did the training sessions go?” Dumbledore asks as he sips on some lemonade.
Snape can’t help but think that Y/N did absolutely exquisite today. However, he won’t admit that to others. “She did quite… acceptable. She was able to block one of my spells” he simply says. He won’t let them know that she hit him so hard he fell to the floor. It’s embarrassing enough that it actually happened.
Lupin chuckles. “That means she did pretty well. She also did well with me. She instantly froze those angry Doxies” he says, leaving out the Boggart incident.
“Indeed, she did a fantastic job conjuring birds out of the blue. I believe she is ready to fight” McGonagall states. Smiling, Dumbledore gives a satisfied nod.
Suddenly, one of the paintings clears his throat. “There are some insolent children trying to get into your office! Apparently, they do not know the password” the man says in an irritated tone.
Puzzled, Lupin leaves to check it out. He’s met by seven frustrated students. “Ah, Harry, it seems as if we have forgotten to tell you the new password. Headmaster Dumbledore currently loves lemonade. What is going on?” he gently asks them.
“It’s Y/N! T-they kidnapped her! S-she’s gone!” Harry stammers while panicking. Widening his eyes, Lupin quickly motions them to hurry up the stairs.
The teachers look at Luna. “Do not worry, she knows everything already. We can trust her” Hermione says while Ginny nods in agreement.
Nodding, Dumbledore waits for them to tell what’s going on. Harry takes a deep breath. “It’s Y/N, she’s gone! Malfoy took her! He made his son drink a Polyjuice Potion so he could be disguised as Luna to distract us” he explains. Snape groans at that. Did they not notice their friend’s odd behaviour? And why did they let Y/N be alone?
Lupin and McGonagall look extremely worried. That means You-Know-Who has her. Dumbledore has an unreadable expression. “Then we must let the rest of the Order know. We will have to rescue her” he slowly states. Everybody nods in agreement and leaves to apparate to the Headquarters. McGonagall stays at the school as she is the Deputy Headmistress.
As they are apparating, Hermione can’t help but worry. Y/N’s friends. They are going to be absolutely devastated.
As they enter Grimmauld Place, they ignore the screaming painting. They are greeted by a worried-looking Mrs. Weasley. “Is everything all right? Where is Y/N?” she slowly asks.
“We need to have a meeting. Y/N is gone, Molly. You-Know-Who has her” Lupin says in a worried tone. Mrs. Weasley lets out a loud gasp. This is really, really bad.
They all gather in the dining room and take a seat at the dinner table. Everybody is present. Except for Y/N, of course. Luna is there as well. Black can’t help but question that. “So, where is Y/N? And what is Ms. Lovegood doing here?” he questions.
Dumbledore looks everybody in the eye. “Do not worry, Ms. Lovegood knows everything. She can be trusted. However, as for Y/N, I am afraid to announce that Lucius Malfoy has kidnapped her. We suspect that she is currently at Malfoy Manor where Voldemort is” the Headmaster states. Everybody gasps. Especially Snape, as his left arm hurts like hell.
Vera and Laura are both in tears. “Y/N? Y/N is gone? He has her?” Laura asks, trying her best not to cry.
Dumbledore gives her a sad smile as he nods. “I am afraid so. However, we will of course send a rescue team to save her” he reassures her.
Laura and Vera do not hesitate to put their hands up. “We will help, too. She’s our friend” Vera states, sounding brave like a Gryffindor.
Moody can’t help but think that won’t end well. “Is that a good idea? The Death Eaters will not hesitate to kill you as they only want Y/N alive” he tells the two girls.
Harry knows how they feel and can’t help but defend them. “She’s their friend. I know what it feels like, I would do anything to help save my friends” the Chosen One says. Everybody slowly nods.
“You will both be going along, then. It will go like this - Mr. Potter, Ms. Granger, Mr. Ronald Weasley, Professor Lupin, Sirius Black and Professor Snape will go to Malfoy Manor and save Y/N” Dumbledore declares. Everybody agrees.
Suddenly, Snape feels pain in his arm. However, it’s not from any idiot saying his name.
He motions with his head to Dumbledore that he needs to speak to him in private. Nodding, Dumbledore stands up from his seat. “Please excuse us” he says in a polite tone to the others as both him and Snape leave and enter the living room.
Snape takes a deep breath. “He is summoning me” he says in a shaky voice.
At Malfoy Manor, Lucius is taking Y/N through the gigantic building as they are about to meet the Dark Lord. There is an endless amount of rooms in this place and lots of stairs, too. Y/N wonders how often somebody gets lost here.
She can’t help but admire the beauty of the Manor. It definitely gives off Slytherin vibes with the green and grey theme. As they are walking, Lucius is still holding her arm.
Finally, they enter what seems to be a dining room. It’s even bigger than the one at Grimmauld Place. “At last, you are here” a cold voice suddenly says.

You hid away for most of the eighteenth century.
You healed when you could, but what happened to Douxie scared you a little more than you’d like to admit.
So you hid.
You found ways to entertain yourself.  You read more, painted a little, continued your medical practice, and learned more about medicine whenever the knowledge became available.  You continued to keep tabs on other immortals.  It was pretty boring except for that time the Americans revolted.  You had to admit it was fun to keep tabs on the scrappy rebellion.  You couldn’t say it out loud as you still lived in England, but you gave a little cheer every time they fought off the British.  You didn’t like authority.  Neither did they.
On the other side of the continent, Douxie did the same things he always did.  Music, magic, work for Merlin.  He also read the book you’d given him.  He liked it.
It was a century of hiding, waiting, and having nothing much to do.  The next century would be the exact opposite.
--
Jack the Ripper was a dick.
You really didn’t like him.
Douxie didn’t like him either.
And Archie didn’t like him.
So, like in every good piece of media that has a chapter in the nineteenth century, you protagonists teamed up to take down Jack the Ripper.  It was super effective!
You met up with your partners in the fog-filled streets of the White Chapel district soon after the second murder.  In your hands, you held a newspaper covering the recent events.  You approached the wizard and his familiar, but they didn’t see you.  They were caught in a conversation with someone you’d never seen before, a stocky man dressed in a dark overcoat and hat.  The stranger hadn’t noticed you either.
Silently, you hid in an alley between two nearby buildings.  You couldn’t hear them, but from the stranger’s body language, he seemed a bit defensive, maybe even a little angry.  You sincerely hoped Douxie wasn’t doing anything stupid.
About a minute later, the man stormed off, leaving Douxie and Archie behind.  They still hadn’t noticed you, so you took the opportunity to sneak up on them.
“Hey!”
“Aaaaahhhh, jeez (Y/N)!  Don’t do that!  There’s a killer on the loose!”
“And he’s only killed prostitutes so far, so you should be fine.  Unless there’s something you aren’t telling me?” you joked, raising an eyebrow.
He gave you a small shove, too small to be malicious, “Very funny.  Have you learned anything new?”
“Mhmm, but first,” you turned to Archie, giving him a pat on the head, “Hey Arch, how are you?”
“I’m fine, thank you for asking,”
“That’s good!  That’s good, anyway, you know they think it’s a doctor, but they received a letter signed ‘Jack the Ripper,’”
“Very fun nickname,”
“Indeed, but it still isn’t much to go off of, the police already doubt it”
“(Y/N), remind me again what your sources are?”  the familiar was right to be suspicious, but you knew your sources were solid.
“I’ve told you Arch, a forensic doctor, he’s a friend of mine and he works with the police,”
“And how do you know you can trust him?”
“I don’t, but they’re publishing the letter soon, so you’ll see it then.  You guys got anything?”
“Not much,”
“Huh.  That isn’t great,” you took a moment before speaking again, “By the way, who was that man you were talking to?  He seemed angry,”
“Oh, him?  He’s just a resident of this area.  I’ve been talking to him for a while, I thought he might know something, but every time I even mention it he gets, well…”
“Like that?”
“Yes, like that,”
You looked out the way the man had gone, “You think he’s a suspect?”
“Oh yeah, absolutely,”
Archie nodded in agreement.
“Well then,” you said, returning the eyes to the face of your accomplices, “Keep an eye on him.  See you next Thursday?”
“Sounds good,”
By next Thursday, another girl was dead.
You met with your team in a (very) shady pub to discuss this development.  Thanks to some connections, you’d snagged a private room where no one else could hear your detective work.
“God DAMMIT, guys, how did we miss this?”  you said, pacing.  Your hands were on your hips, eyes fixed on the floor.  You seriously could not figure out how you missed this.
On the wall behind you, you’d attached some photos and newspaper clippings to the wall, red yarn connecting them.  You were very ahead of your time.
“I really don’t know,” Douxie was sitting, upside-down, in a chair across from you.  He threw the ball of yarn up in the air, letting it fall, and catching it over and over again. Archie didn’t answer, he was focused too hard on the yarn.
You stopped pacing and glared at your conspiracy wall.  You followed the red string with your finger.  It lead nowhere.  You groaned and ran your fingers through your hair, something that Douxie found alarmingly attractive.
Ever since you saved his life in the sixteen hundreds, he’d developed a bit of a soft spot for you.  It wasn’t something he was proud of.  But it was fine, you’d developed a soft spot for him too.
“Hey, it’ll be alright, love,”  he said, sitting up properly, “We’ll find this monster, so don’t worry yourself too much,”
You took a deep breath, leaning against your crime wall, “Thanks Doux.  I appreciate it,”
Your voice was slightly sarcastic, but you both smiled still.  Archie frowned, the yarn wasn’t moving anymore.
“So,” you said, turning again to examine the mess of photos and yarn, ”He isn’t an official suspect, but I think this guy, this James Maybrick, seems a little suspicious,” you pointed at his photo, “He’s going to be at this ball thing on Friday.  If we go, we can ask him if he plans on traveling, he lives in Liverpool, and-”
“I’m sorry, he lives where?”
“Liverpool, Arch, pay attention-”
“(Y/N), why do you think he’s coming all the way out to White Chapel to murder these women?”
“Well it isn’t his area, that makes him less of a suspect, and all of the murders have been on Saturdays and Sundays, which gives him time to travel,”
“You might be onto something,” Douxie said, standing and letting the yarn fall to the ground where Archie chased it around, thoroughly distracted, “We can go check it out, but how do we get in?”
You bit your lip, deep in thought, “My doctor friend, he knows the hostess.  He might be able to get us in,”
“Fantastic!”
“There’s just one thing,”
“Yes?”
“I’m pretty sure you’ll have to pretend to be my fiance,”
There was a moment of silence while Douxie considered this.
You tried to explain yourself, “I-It’s not my first choice either, but high society doesn’t approve of-”
“I’ll do it,”
“And I know it’s inconvenient, but-”
“(Y/N)?”
“Yes?”
“I said I’ll do it,”
It was your time to consider, and you considered yourself super lucky to have an accomplice like Douxie.
“Oh my god, thank you!” you exclaimed, throwing your arms around his neck, “Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you,”
You couldn’t see Douxie’s face, so he had no idea that he blushed before wrapping his arms around you softly.
“No problem (Y/N), no problem,”
--
Two days later, you were wearing fancy clothes, and freaking out a little.
This was nothing compared to Douxie who was freaking out a lot.  Mostly because you looked absolutely stunning, but also because there was a possible murderer inside the building.  You know, typical stuff.
The two of you stood outside the manor, looking up at the vast estate.  It was beautiful but intimidating.  You turned to your partner in crime-solving, “You ready for this?”
He nodded.
You closed your eyes, swallowed back your anxiety, and linked your arm with his.
“Let’s do it,”
The manor was, simply put, dazzling.  The size of it reminded you of the smaller cathedrals during the sixteenth century.  The floors were marble, the ceiling decorated with a mural, just like the cathedrals you now reminisced.  The room was lit with a large chandelier, the warm light covered the whole room in a glow the colour of honey.  Columns, the same marble as the floor, stood strong around the perimeter.  On one side of the space, an orchestra played.  The center was full of people dancing.  Some people stood at the side of the room speaking, others just observing everything else. It was a crazy party, but only by Victorian standards.
The sheer amount of activity made you panic a little.  As if Douxie could sense your anxiety, he found one of your hands and squeezed it reassuringly.  You smiled a little, once again thankful for such an amazing partner in crime.
The two of you made your way around the dance floor, checking faces, looking for your suspect.  You didn’t see him.  You and Douxie made a full circle around the room, not seeing your guy.  You were about to suggest finding a higher viewpoint when the hostess of the party stopped you.
She was a plump, elegant woman, draped in the finest of silks.  Her hair shone, and her eyes sparkled.  She was perfectly gorgeous, and perfectly in your way.
“Ah, fuzzbuckets,”
“Oh, my dear (Y/N)!  It is so good to see you, darling!”
“It’s good to see you as well, my Lady,” you returned, bowing slightly.  Douxie followed your lead.
“‘Tis a pity the good doctor couldn’t be with us!  He works so hard, you would think he would come out and dance for an evening!  Just to relax!”  The woman laughed as if wishing the doctor was here was the funniest thing on the planet.  Maybe it was to her Victorian sensibilities.
You laughed an appropriate amount, plastering on a fake smile, and biting your tongue at the irony.  This was the least relaxed you’d been all century.
When the Lady stopped laughing, she noticed Doxie, “Oh, (Y/N), dear, you must tell me who this dashing young gentleman is!  How in heaven did you find such a match?”
“My Lady, this is my fiance, Mr. Casperan,”
“It’s lovely to meet you fair Lady, and might I say that the moon and stars dull in comparison to your eyes; even a goddess of beauty could not hold a candle to your visage,”
You tried to keep cool, but you felt your eyes widen a bit.  You had never heard Douxie speak like that before.  You weren’t sure how it made you feel yet, but clearly, the Lady enjoyed it.  A blush covered her face as she gushed over the wizard for another two minutes.  You spent that time subtly searching the crowd for Maybrick.
Clearly, you were not as subtle as you thought.
“Oh, dear, I see your partner is eyeing the dance floor,” the lady said, her face still painted with a blush.  Her words called you to attention.
“Ah, yes, my apologies my Lady,”
“No worries at all dear child, now go!  Dance the night away!”
“Thank you,” you said, once again bowing.
“It was wonderful speaking with you, my Lady,” Douxie said, following your actions before leading you to the mass of dancing guests.
“She’s watching us,” Douxie whispered to you through clenched teeth, “Can you dance?”
“Not super well, but enough to survive,”
“Just follow my lead,”
Douxie could dance pretty damn well, something you weren’t too surprised by.  He’d spent a lot of time learning music throughout the centuries, you’ would've been a bit surprised if he hadn’t known how.  He was so good, in fact, that you were almost certain he was making you a better dancer just by being near you.  You’d be lying if you said this wasn’t the most fun you’d had in a while.
“So, where’d you learn to flirt like that?”  you asked, your voice low so that no one else could hear you.
“I’ve picked some things up over the years,” he said, spinning you out and then back in again.
“I have to say, I was quite impressed.  I didn’t see that coming,”
He faked a gasp, “Why I’m offended!  You don’t think I can flirt?”
“Well, I didn’t until tonight.  But I stand corrected,” he dipped you, “You can flirt extremely well Hisirdoux Casperan,”
“Thank you, (Y/N) (L/N),”
You both smiled continuing the dance, scanning the crowd for the face of the killer.  And in between that, just staring at each other.
You almost regretted finding the suspect.
You hated to admit that a small part of you had hoped to just dance with Douxie for the next few hours, pretending that you were a couple and that you weren’t magic, and you weren’t immortal, and you hadn’t seen pain and suffering the world over, and he hadn’t been tortured two centuries before.  You just wanted to dance.
But you saw him.
And the good of the humans came before the things you wanted.
“Doux, I see him,”
“Where?”
“To your left and back behind you.  Don’t look at him.  We’ll get off the dance floor, and I’ll question him,”
“Are you sure?”  Douxie thought about elaborating.  About telling you that he didn’t want you to get hurt and that he too, wanted to keep dancing.
But he didn’t.  And you were sure.
So, you left the dance floor and made your way to the suspect.  You made sure Douxie stayed far enough behind you for his presence to be non-threatening, and made your approach.
“Wonderful party isn’t it Sir…?”  you waited for him to give you his name.
“Maybrick, Mr. Maybrick,”
“Mr. Maybrick.  A lovely name,” internally, you cursed God for giving Douxie all of the charm and leaving you none.
“May I ask where you’re from Mr. Maybrick?”
“I’m from around here, Liverpool.  May I ask who's asking?”
“I-”
“(Y/N), dear!  Where have you put that lovely boy of yours!  I have some friends he simply must meet!”
You could not believe that the hostess was interrupting you yet again.  This time, Maybrick actually ran from you.  You cursed under your breath.  The Lady was far enough away that you could pretend not to hear her.  You could still catch the suspect, you just had to run a little.  In the outfit you were wearing, it would be next to impossible, but you really didn’t want to talk to the hostess again, so you gestured for Douxie to follow, and you chased after Maybrick.
You ran through the ballroom, dodging patrons and maneuvering around dancers.  It felt almost like a fairytale; Cinderella if the princess had to chase down a dangerous serial killer instead of just flee the ball.
The suspect ran out the front doors, and you followed him, Douxie close behind.  The night air was cool on your skin, a nice contrast to the warmth of the ballroom.  You lost a shoe, and your hair was slowly turning into more and more of a mess, but you didn’t care, you wanted to catch this guy.
You did not catch that guy.
A horse-drawn carriage was waiting for him at the end of the lane.  There was no way you could compete with that.  Not unless Archie would shapeshift into a horse for the sake of catching a possible criminal.
A black stallion pulled up beside you.
It was Archie, shapeshifted into a horse for the sake of catching a possible criminal.  You manifested your hot girl mystery-solving arc.
“Get on!”  both Douxie and Archie exclaimed, Douxie offering you a hand up.  You took it, jumping onto Archie’s back, wrapping your arms around the wizard's waist, and riding after the carriage.
The night was dark, and the carriage moved fast.  Archie kept up pretty well for a familiar with two people on his back.  He went so fast that all you could do was cling to Douxie for dear life as the dark world blurred around you.  It was not for a lack of trying, but eventually, you lost them.
“You did good Arch, you did good,”
“Thank you, Archie,” you said, forehead buried in Douxie’s back.
“I appreciate the thanks, but it isn’t over yet.  We left all of our stuff back at the manor, so we should return,”
“That’s probably a good idea,”
The journey back showed you how far you’d gone.  Needless to say, you were super proud of Archie.  You’d have to remind yourself to get him some fish later.
When you arrived back at the manor, the party was still going.  You could hear the music from the outside.  You dismounted Archie and leaned against his side.
“All of this,” you groaned out, “for nothing,”
“Well it wasn’t exactly for nothing,” Douxie said, stretching his arms above his head, “Maybrick ran from us, that’s suspicious.  I think we can officially call him a suspect.  Here,” he threw your missing shoe your way, “You dropped this,”
You smiled, leaning on Archie for support as you slipped it back on, “Thanks,”
“My pleasure,”
You laughed.  The stars above you caught your eye.  They were so beautiful tonight.  The music was nice too.  Everything was so peaceful.
It reminded you of another night, centuries ago, when you’d been allowed to rant and rave, and the wizard just listened to you.
“Hey, Douxie?”
“Yes, love?”
You hesitated, trying to think of something to say.  Eventually, you came up with, “We’re still enemies after this, right?”
He laughed a little.  It sounded kind of sad, “If you want us to be,”
At that moment, you didn’t know what you wanted.
That’s a lie, you wanted to kiss Douxie.
But you hadn’t figured it out just yet, so, for now, you just stared at his lips, wondering what that feeling was, and listening to the song end.
“We should head back,”
“I guess we should,”
Neither of you were satisfied with this outcome.
--
You wouldn’t be satisfied until you caught the killer, or as it turned out, killers.
You’d been back at the pub, obsessing over the crime wall, tracing the red yarn over and over again.  Doux and Archie were starting to worry about your health.  Then you cracked the code.
“What if,” you said, turning from the wall, “There’s more than one,”
“More than one?”
“Yeah, more than one killer.  There’s more than one person involved here,”
The wizard and his familiar exchanged a look.  Maybe you were sleep-deprived and in need of a nap, but maybe you were onto something, “Go on,”
“Think about it, we’ve got multiple leads, some doctors, some live in the area, some have the motive, some are just suspicious, but none of them have everything they need to commit murder.  What if they’re working together?”
“Keep talking,”
“Look, here,” you said, pointing at a photo of a suspect, “Johnson Druitt, he lives in the white chapel area and has the anatomical knowledge,” you moved to another photo, this one a sketch, “Barnett, his roommate works the streets, he’s in love with her and we know he hates her job.  If he killed those other women to scare her, he has a motive,” you moved on again, “And Maybrick,”  you stopped, trying to piece together his role in this grand conspiracy.
“He’d have the funds to cover it up, plus the interest in the case,”
You spun around to face the wizard, “Douxie, you’re brilliant!”
You took a step back from the wall, taking in your work, “So, what do we do now?”
“Simple,” Douxie said, resting an elbow on your shoulder, “We go after him,”
--
You didn’t mind being bait.  Really, you didn’t.  But you did find it boring.
You’d been walking around this general area for two hours now, this disguise was uncomfortable, and you just wanted something else to do.  Then your wish came true!
Two men approached you from the front, both short in stature with well-kept moustaches.  You hid a smile, the three killer theory proving itself correct.  You walked forward, your peripheral vision focused on the men.
The three of you kept walking.
You passed between them.
“Lovely night, isn’t it?”
They stopped, you continued on.
“Excuse me, dearie?”
“Yes?”  you purred, turning to them.
Then you were grabbed from behind.  Fortunately, you expected that little trick, grabbing the stranger and flipping him over your body.  The man landed on the pavement with a thud.  You grinned as the three men looked at you, faces full of shock.  Unfortunately, it wore off, and the three advanced.
The first one threw a decent punch, but you dodged, forcing him to punch one of his partners.  You swept the legs out from under the third.
The first two had recovered and were coming at you again, this time with blades.  It was this moment when you noticed the blood on their coats.  It wasn’t theirs, or yours for that matter.  Yep, these were definitely your guys.
The first blade missed you, the second one just grazed your side.  You bit down a cry of pain, sincerely hoping that blade was clean.  You could see Douxie emerge from his hiding place; clearly, he’d felt the sting of the metal too.
But you didn’t have time to focus on Douxie, you had to fight.
You threw a few punches of your own, knocking the duo back into the street and closer to the wizard.
“Gah, you wENCH!!” one of them exclaimed.
“Kill the whore!!”
You could see the rage in their faces, but that wasn’t as important as the fact that you could see their faces.  Maybrick and Druitt.  Your theory was right!  Your excitement fell away as they advanced.
Then they both fell into limbo.
The portal down glowed blue around them.  Douxie stood behind the gateway, looking very proud of himself.
You would have laughed at their misfortune and Doux’s pride if you hadn’t been grabbed from behind again.
You cried out in surprise, catching the attention of the wizard.
“(Y/N)!”
“Don’t come any closer!” you felt the cold of a blade on your throat.  This wouldn’t end well.
“Come on now, don’t make any rash decisions,” Douxie’s hands were raised in surrender, his eyes never leaving yours.
“I’ll kill the wench!  I’ll do it!”
“Hey, don’t-”
“My Mary is dead!  There’s nothing left!  I’ll kill her!”
“Wait, who's dead?”
“My girl,” the man sobbed, his grasp on you weakening, “My Mary Kelly, I’ve lost her!  She’s gone!”
You may have felt bad for this guy if he hadn’t been absolutely insane.  You took his distracted state as a chance and broke from his hold, pushing yourself away from him.
“Douxie!  Now!”
The portal to limbo opened under the man.  He had no time to react as he fell into the other dimension.
You looked down into the gateway, a blue pool in the middle of a dull cobblestone street.  You sighed with relief as the blue magic sealed itself shut, leaving the night dark again.
“Nice work,”
“Thanks,”
Lights came on in the windows around you.  In the distance, you heard shouting.
“We should get out of here,”
“Good idea.  See you next century?”
“Oh, absolutely.  Say goodbye to Arch for me,”
“Will do,”
And you slipped away into the night, excited by this latest adventure, but still wanting more.
