tags update: israel is now 5th. egypt is 8th, with lebanon, human rights, and middle east trending under it. collonialism and US politics are trending as well
context on why egypt is trending:
on this day(april 8th) in 1970, at 9:20 AM as a part of operation priha, israeli air forces bombed a primary school in a village named bahr el baqar(in el hesenia center. in the east of sharqia governate).
the attack resulted in 30 children killed. 50 children and 11 staff members injured. and the school building becoming rubble
after the attack, at the time israelli minister of defense moshe dayan stated "maybe the egyptians put elementary students in a military base" despite no military activity existing in the area, the "human shields" lie is THAT old. bahr al baqar was just the perfect combination of "damages from bombing it would push the egyptians into a ceasefire" and "not known enough for people to fact check our bullshit"
operation priha(tl;dr)
operation priha was a series of sorties by the israelli air force against mainland egyptian targets to stop egypt from fighting during the war of attrition. bahr al baqar was NOT the only one, on february 13th they bombed an industrial plant in abu za'abal(qalyubia), killing 80 workers. in addition to a long list of egyptian military and navel bases.
DON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT INJUSTICE

BREAKING: HAMAS LEADER OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Khaled Meshaal:
If the Algerians, Afghans and Vietnamese listened to the advocates of defeatism who demand that we surrender, Algeria, Afghanistan and Vietnam would not have been liberated from colonialism and occupation.
The Al-Aqsa flood inflicted on the occupation psychologically, militarily, and intelligence-wise, and this defeat will be complete soon, God willing.
Oct 7th proved that the terrorist Zionist occupation can be defeated, and it has awakened awareness throughout the world about the justice of the Palestine issue.
The occupation appeared for its barbaric nature when turned into a raging bull that brutalized innocent people and targeted schools, hospitals, mosques, churches, and all aspects of life in our beloved Strip, Gaza.
Why does the Arab & Islamic nation not unite around the resistance? Western countries also rallied to support the Zionist occupation.
After 49 years of terrorist Zionist aggression, the resistance is fine, despite the martyrs among the fighters and some leaders, but our tunnels, ammunition and weapons are still intact, and we are still able to maneuver, launch missiles, and target invading tanks.
We follow the example of our noble Messenger, when he was besieged in the Battle of the Trench and heralding the conquest of the lands of the Romans and Persia.
Our heroic fighters turned tanks that cost millions and are equipped with the latest technology into a “farce,” with a small package attached to their back door and killing the cowards inside.
Hamas leaders lost dozens of their families during the aggression, and we bid farewell to the acting Speaker of the Legislative Council, Dr. Habib, the martyr Ahmed Bahr, and the representative in the Legislative Council, the martyr sister, Jamila Al-Shanti.
The terrorist Zionist occupation failed to achieve its declared goals of eliminating Hamas and displacing the entire population of the Gaza Strip, and the majority of the population of the north remained in the north despite everything that our great steadfast north is exposed to.
Some Western politicians are discussing Gaza after Hamas, and I say to them, save your time, your imagination, and your dreams, and within years, God willing, you will discuss the situation of the region after “Israel.”
We reject the participation of any international or Arab forces in the administration of Gaza, and all these plans will be trampled upon by our heroes in the resistance, led by our victorious Al-Qassam Brigades.
On the first day, we expressed readiness to release detained civilians. Because the objectives of the battle did not include taking them; But the circumstances of the battle, after the collapse of the occupation's Gaza division, led to this, and we released a number of detainees.
When we saw the brutality of the terrorist aggression, we said we must run this card; And to serve the civilians in Gaza and relieve them.
The truce achieves the release of children and women from Zionist occupation prisons, a temporary cessation of aggression, and humanitarian relief for Gaza.
The temporary truce sparked controversy within the entity about the controversy of the war that wants to eliminate Hamas, and then they are forced to negotiate with it indirectly to exchange detained children and women.
Gaza must be supported militarily, and the nation must not be spectators, and must contribute to the outcome of the battle.
We thank everyone who participated in supporting Gaza militarily, and everyone who asks us about the extent of our satisfaction with the participation of some parties, we answer the question: What did you participate in?
Gaza must be supported financially and humanitarianly, the political, popular and public pressure movement must be escalated to stop the aggression.
We showed Israel as it is,weak as a spider’s web, in need of someone to protect it, in addition to its illusory ability to protect others or fight wars on their behalf

"I love her your honor I could ramble nonstop about this girl for days lmao" (<- from ur post abt hoor)
may i request some more rambles about her? :3 it can be literally anything abt her u want, idrc :)
ohhhh casey you don't know what train of thought you just started rn lmao
I hope you enjoy my long rambling abt my blorbo <33
okay, so, she's ambidextrous but has a prefrence for her right hand! she does most things with it, and barely uses her left hand sometimes.
her birthday is on 15th april! I'd say she's around her early-mid twenties in DR, not sure about her and bahr's age yet
compared to bahr, her arabic accent isn't that strong when she speaks ninjargon, meanwhile his accent is strong strong compared to hers
she and bahr lived in the same villiage (which was also the same villiage cole lived in), and they'd spend probably the entire day playing together outside ,but everything got gloomier when he left, which made hoor the saddest she'd ever been, she didn't know where he went either so it was even harder to process
hoor is also a fashion obsesser, and posts alot of her own outfits online and is pretty popular for it! she has alot of hijabs, some she doesn't even use, but she keeps them 'just incase' lol. she really likes styling them in different ways, and each outfit can sometimes get different styles, she gets reallyyy picky when picking colours tho
when she gets bored, she likes to embroider (which she is not quite good at yet) and likes to write!
other than being popular for her outfits, she's actually a journalist too! she has a love-hate (mostly hate) relationship with her studio, the only thing making her job fun being some of her coworkers at that point, but she doesn't hate the job itself at all
she's an absolute sucker for pasta, no matter what kind, she'll eat right away like she hasn't eaten in days 😭 she wishes to one day make some on her own, but with her awful cooking skills she'd probably burn the whole kitchen, she'd just head straight to her mother if she doesn't wanna eat from a restuarant
speaking of that, she lives in an apartment flat that's not so far from her mother's, but close enough so they could be able to visit and see eachother, and to also make sure the other's okay when there's danger. when she first moved in her own apartment, hoor would sometimes stay with her mother for a few days because she didn't like how lonely she felt, she preferred staying with someone than staying alone, so it took a while to get used to (fun fact: hoor's mother's name is tamara :D). hoor also doesn't own a car, but she doesn't see why she should because everything she needs is close to her in the street she lives at (except her studio, which is like, an hour away)
hoor loves to get nicknamed, and her mother knows that well, she calls her "hooriyati" (my freedom), "roh qalby" (soul of my heart), "qalby" (my heart) and every adorable nickname you could think of, bahr would also call her "hoora" or "ruru" as kids, and he still calls her ruru now sometimes
her father, mekawy, had died a few months before her birth, so she didn't know anything about her father other than his pictures and his handwritten notes (some of them being sappy letters that were meant for her mom), she knew he was a good man from the stories her mom would tell her
also, forgot to mention she's another fan of the ninja, and is actually mutuals with cole on chirper! she had the heart attack of her life when he followed her back, it's her biggest flex lmao (she and cole would also speak arabic to eachother in threads and no one would understand what they're saying [and yes, I hc cole as arab, it's real trust me on that 👍])
I think I should stop before this post gets too long lmao 😭 tysm for letting me ramble about my blorbo I love her <333

What to stream this week: 'Young Sheldon,' Amy Schumer, 'Oppenheimer' and lots and lots of JLo
Tumblr media
Christopher Nolan's “Oppenheimer” arriving on Peacock and a documentary and album from Jennifer Lopez are some of the new television, movies, music and games headed to a device near you.
Also among the streaming offerings worth your time as selected by The Associated Press’ entertainment journalists: “Young Sheldon” returning for its seventh and final season, Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. exploring the power of gospel in a two-part PBS documentary and Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones pirate-themed video game.
Tumblr media
— If you were holding out for “Oppenheimer” on streaming, now’s your chance to catch up before the Oscars (March 10), where it’s up for 13 awards including best picture, best director for Christopher Nolan and best actor for Cillian Murphy. The film arrives on Peacock on Friday, Feb. 16. Nolan and Emma Thomas, his producer and wife, are passionate advocates of the big screen experience, but they also know that most people will watch their films in the home — sometimes even as their first time. It’s how both discovered some of their favorites as well, they’ve said. In an interview with The Associated Press, Thomas added, “The nice thing about Chris’ films is because they are so very rich and reward multiple viewings, I think that they’re perfectly pitched for home viewings.”
— Jennifer Lopez has a new movie coming to Prime Video on Feb. 16. She co-wrote “This is Me…Now: A Love Story,” a movie musical about finding love which she called “the most personal thing I’ve ever done.” It is a star-studded endeavor, with appearances from her husband, Ben Affleck, Keke Palmer, Sofia Vergara, Post Malone and more, and ties in with her first studio album in a decade (see below). Also coming to Prime Video is Emma Seligman’s “gay high school fight club” comedy “Bottoms,” starring Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri as a few misfits who start a fight club to flirt with the hot cheerleaders (Kaia Gerber and Havana Rose Liu). In his review, AP Film Writer Jake Coyle wrote that, “The rites and rituals of the raunchy high-school comedy can be as prescribed as a class syllabus. But what makes Emma Seligman’s “Bottoms” such an anarchic thrill is how much it couldn’t care less.”
Tumblr media
— And finally, Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins” arrives on Hulu on Thursday. It’s based on the real story of the American Samoa men’s soccer team quest to qualify for the FIFA World Cup after an historic loss (31-nill) against Australia. Michael Fassbender plays the coach who tries to help. In his AP review, Mark Kennedy wrote that “’Next Goal Wins’ is most winning in the way it handles the team’s star player, Jaiyah Saelua, who became the first nonbinary player to compete in a men’s FIFA qualifier. Played with real tenderness and joy by nonbinary actor Kaimana, the way the team and coach relate to Saelua is genuine and touching."
— AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr
— Get ready for a second dose of J.Lo. On Friday, Feb. 16, she drops the Amazon original film “This is Me… Now: A Love Story” (see above) as well as her “This Is Me… Now” album. The 13-track set’s song titles include “To Be Yours,” “Mad in Love,” “Greatest Love Story Never Told” and “Dear Ben Pt. II,” a seeming sequel to a track on her 2002 album “This Is Me … Then.” The video for one new pop single, “Can’t Get Enough,” has as much JLo strutting as all of Paris Fashion Week. Lopez’s last album, “A.K.A.,” came out in 2014 and reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200.
— Blackberry Smoke — a Georgia-based band that has been together for 24 years and seven studio albums — makes a strong return with “Be Right Here,” blending blues, Southern rock and Americana. The album contains the arena country “Hammer and the Nail,” the rocking “Little Bit Crazy” and the driving, bluesy “Dig a Hole.” The band goes more acoustic with the wistful “Azalea,” about a loved one making a wrong decision, with the lyrics “Coming back don’t mean you're leaving here was wrong/Sorry ain’t the same as moving on.”
Tumblr media
— AP Entertainment Writer Mark Kennedy
— In a new docuseries for PBS, Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. examines how sermon and song have long been a source of strength and wisdom in America, particularly among Black Americans. “Gospel,” a four-part series told over two nights has interviews with Dionne Warwick, U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock and more. “Gospel” airs Monday Tuesday on PBS.
— Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche play Christian Dior and Coco Chanel in a new historical drama “The New Look” for Apple TV+. The 10-episode series is set against the backdrop of Paris reemerging from Nazi occupation in WWII. Dior’s designs helped to lift an oppressed France and its culture with a stylish, modern glow up. As Dior rose to prominence, a rivalry developed between other established designers, including Chanel. “The New Look” also stars Maisie Williams, John Malkovich, Emily Mortimer and Glenn Close. The first three episodes of “The New Look” drop Wednesday on the streamer.
— Before Sheldon Cooper met Leonard, Penny or Amy he was a child prodigy growing up in east Texas. Iain Armitage plays the coming-of-age version of the character in the CBS comedy “Young Sheldon.” Emmy winner Jim Parsons who played Sheldon on “Big Bang” for 12 seasons, narrates. “Young Sheldon” returns for its seventh and final season on Thursday.
Tumblr media
— Amy Schumer’s Hulu dramedy “Life & Beth” charmed viewers when it debuted in 2022 and the series returns for a second season on Friday, Feb. 16. Schumer writes, directs and stars as Beth opposite Michael Cera, who plays John, a farmer. The two fell in love in season one despite their differences and personal baggage. Now, the couple is planning to marry. Schumer has said the story is semi-autobiographical, inspired by her real-life marriage to chef Chris Fischer. All 10 episodes of season two will be available on the premiere date.

— Batten down the hatches: Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones is finally ready to launch after more than a decade of development and delays. You are the captain of a pirate vessel in the Indian Ocean in the 18th century. You have a decent ship to start with, but if you want to make it really deadly you need to start collecting booty. That means pillaging merchant ships, battling rival scalawags, dodging the authorities and even surviving the occasional sea monster on your way to becoming the Pirate Kingpin. You can team up with friends or fight against them in epic naval warfare — something Ubisoft has shown a flair for in some of its Assassin’s Creed games. Set sail Friday, Feb. 16, on PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S or PC.
Tumblr media
— Focus Entertainment’s Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden travels to the New World in the 17th century. The protagonists are a couple of paranormal investigators, Red and Antea, who are trying to clear the tormented wraiths out of a haunted settlement. They can help the lost souls ascend or banish them to eternal misery, and those choices have consequences down the line. It all gets more complicated when Antea gets killed — but fortunately she can use her supernatural powers to help Red finish the job. Banishers comes from the French studio Don’t Nod, best known for story-heavy cult favorites like Vampyr and Life Is Strange. You can take possession Tuesday on PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S or PC.

"Jabal al-Mudawara" è la porta d'accesso al deserto del Sahara nel Governatorato di Fayoum. Ha più di 45 milioni di anni e rappresenta un'importante attrazione turistica.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Review "Poor Things"
Tumblr media
I saw "Poor Things" directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. It stars Emma Stone, William Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Mark Ruffalo and more. I definitely was entertained by this film. I thought the scenes were gorgeous and the cinematography marvelous and interesting. The acting was very good and Emma Stone as Bella Baxter was really wonderful. There were definite steam punk scenes that were lovely and interesting. The film was often macabre but certainly, particularly in the latter half of the film, quite sexual. IMDb's brief synopsis is "The incredible tale about the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter. " Actually the young woman's body is brought back to life but the brain which replaces the original woman's brain is that of her baby, still in the woman when the woman commited suicide. William Dafoe's character, Dr. Godwin Baxter , is also quite entertaining with his scarred and stitched back together face and the stories of his very odd father's experimentation on him in his youth is also quite, um, interesting. I also was entertained by the numerous animals which he had obviously put together from various animals. I do not believe this film is for everyone. As noted above, there are many explicit sexual scenes with Emma Stone and numerous male and female partners.as well as her own private experimentation. There are some scenes, again in the latter half of the film, where the pacing is slower, sometimes being perfectly acceptable and reasonable, but a few times just a tad slower than I appreciated. It certainly is a quirky film. Most reviewers give it high marks but there are some, such as the one by Mick LaSalle in today's San Francisco Chronicle which were definitely less appreciative of the film. There was an earlier review by Lindsey Bahr, also in the SF Chron, which definitely seemed to praise it and many aspects of it, "This story exists in a Victorian dream/nightmare, a vision so stuffed with fantasy it reminded me of “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.” But it is undoubtedly among the year’s most sumptuous visual delights with production design by James Price and Shona Heath, and costumes by Holly Waddington. Lanthimos and cinematographer Robbie Ryan again employ the fisheye lens that they used in “The Favourite.” It’s extra, but at least it makes more sense in this purposely disorienting world." I found it interesting that Mick LaSalle, a male, said "But no, sorry, the problem isn’t that Emma Stone is nude in the movie; the problem is the movie that Stone chose to be nude in. No amount of gaslighting by the director can distract us from his utterly bogus vision of female empowerment." Whereas Lindsey Bahr, a female reviewer, found it "uplifting". Hmm . . . .
It wasn't a perfect film but I laughed many times during this film and definitely plan to buy the physical media when it comes out and will watch it again.
I saw the film at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco. I had been wanting to see a film there and finally did so last night. I like this venue. They have a table in front of all the seats, at least that I saw. Usually the table is for two side-by-side seats. They have a fairly extensive food and drink menu. I had chips and queso dip, a margarita, and the Hellfire Burger with a Beyond Meat burger substitution. It wasn't spicy. It wasn't hot. Relative to what I had I found it overpriced and not that great. Nevertheless I do plan to go back and try other things on their menu. The seat was comfortable although I purchased a ticket rather late and wound up sitting closer to the screen than I like but it was okay. Lots of leg room.
