a solid 6'2 / 188cm

comfort food is hearty and heavy stews

considers his plants his pets, as there's no responsible way of actually owning dogs without paying pet-sitting fees and then barely seeing the dog anyway since he's away on missions. if you have a dog he can interact with, use it as a means to break the ice. don't shove it into his face though… it has happened.

before finding out the truth about his genetically engineered existence, angeal grew up thinking he was a sickly child. a lot of his early memories involve being in "doctor's" offices with his mother, although the context at the time was lost on him. part of his SOLDIER propaganda story was how the procedures cured him of all his ails, fixing his "frail" immune system ( which was just his unstable genetic code beginning to show itself).

anan biggs:

5'9 / 175cm

comes from a village / town that was eventually annexed by wutai during the war, south of it's borders. his parents, in a bid to save him from being directly involved in the war, smuggled him to midgar. they end up dying in the conflict due to shinra's actions.

the reason he cares so deeply for the slums orphanage is because he grew up himself, when it was even more run down and held together by the hopes and dreams of the older caretakers. and while his parents would've wanted him to grow up free of conflict… growing up in midgar's slums neck deep in the unfairness of the systems at hand tipped him towards being radicalized.

around 16-17 years old he sets off on his own, traveling the world, where in he eventually makes his way over to cosmo canyon where he spent a couple years and eventually met barret.

barret wallace:

6'4 / 193cm

his whole family died in the corel incident: his father, his mother and aunts, and most aching for him, his younger brother

barret's joined the corel militia around 15/16 in order to help their family financially, his father beginning to show signs of suffering from black lung from being a coal miner, and couldn't keep working - all the while, barret wanted his younger brother to stay in school since he wanted him to get out of corel one day

although their militia is "unofficial" barret grows to be the highest ranking member in it, and he's a strongly respected member of their society

canon divergence: after the shinra incident, when barret returns to corel during their travels, barret ISN'T hated by the entire community. yes there are outliers who let their bitterness and need to blame someone win out, HOWEVER as a whole the town's just desolate and oppressed. it was a COMMUNITY decision to accept shinra's "help" with the mako reactors, and blaming solely him makes no sense. the man that attacks him when he enters the town is a belligerent drunk who also lost his family, and barret's self hatred and the guilt that he harbors makes him accept it ss his penance, even though the man is quickly dragged off to sit his outburst out.

cloud strife ( request only ):

cloud's suffered from genuine brain death during his time spent mako comatose, and it was the jenova cells in his body that effectively "fixed" him and revived him. this is why he has such a high affinity / attunement to jenova/sephiroth: he has a higher percentage of jenova cells that anyone that isn't sephiroth, as his half-alive state meant jenova cells could slowly reproduce in his body and take over his dying cells.

it is arguable whether he is the "real" cloud or not at this point, but he wants to be.

it is something entirely instinctual, the jenova cells in him doing what is necessary to maintain his delusion, but cloud can, quite literally, read people's mind when they're in close proximity. he learns things fast, freakily fast, because of this. choreographs, fighting styles, information… if he needs to know it, he will take it.

during the early parts of their adventures, he has a constant tremor he is not aware of, like a chihuahua, and it only goes away when he focuses - whether on a task or on a fight. he is also in pain outside of the migraines, wielding the buster sword taking more effort than he "remembers".

operated as a hitman / chauffeur to the mafia ring that shinra sponsored before eventually taking them them down for good publicity once their usefulness ran out

spent some time incarcerated before his continuous silence and loyalty caught the turk's attention, and after lengthy "talks" with tseng he was eventually convinced to join a new "family" that would actually respect him

he really didn't like reno at first, but it was exactly that kind of attitude and personality that was needed to break down his walls… because he'd quite literally never had to deal with this kind of people back in his mafia days - if anything, he'd silenced plenty of loudmouths like reno before.

reno is now his pookie, and if anything happens to his emotional support walking disaster you're not going to like the outcome.

professor hojo torrez:

5'11 / 180cm

he actually has other, more "sensible" titles, as he has completed multiple courses of higher education, but he prefers the title of "professor" purely because it immediately puts him above you. he is your better, and he is teaching you. use other titles to your own discretion, lab assistants have been fired over this "disrespect".

knows how to wield firearms, and is actually quite proficient in them even at this point in time - he was drafted once upon a time as a military medic before his… "talents" caught certain people's attention.

he is armed, constantly, with a single handgun underneath his labcoat, something vincent is sharply aware of.

he does not respect life, or anyone's right to it. he kills with zero remorse, and finds macabre enjoyment in knowing he is purposefully making his subjects suffer in pursuit of his goals.

cares about things purely in an ownership angle. it affects everything in his life, from his studies to his relationships. he will not be satisfied until he has degraded you into something docile and desolate… and those that raise too much of a fuss he considers to be too much work to bother keeping (alive).

Thinking more about the post about villains Boomer made, the only truly evil ones I can think about, the ones that have done fucked up things and have no remorse or underlying reason for it, or just have a wildly different set of ideals compared to the rest if the world, are Zouken from Fate Stay Night, Hojo from Final Fantasy 7 and possibly the Doctor from Genshin. I might be wrong about Zouken but still. They are the type that just see the world and its inhabitants as a big ass lab and as long as they get their results it literally doesn't matter what happens to get there, which is interesting compared to others. I'm not saying these games shouldn't have irredeemable or truly fucked up people like this but I do get why they're not as popular and why companies steer more toward broken and damaged ones like Scara or Kama, or "fucked up ones with a heart"like Tart and Arle

But at the same time, guess who my least favorite genshin and fate characters are.

A lovely commenter asked me to map the cast between Courage the Cowardly Dog and FF7.

I have never seen Courage, so I decided to watch some on YouTube and do my best. Feel free to laugh at my failures and successes.

President Shinra - I'm 1:05 min in and he's the guy telling "Jennings" to acquire the moon. I don't care if he's an unnamed, non-recurring character or a staple of the show. I've already picked the rich asshole as Shinra.

Reeve might be Jennings, but I doubt it.

A people person and a wonderful friend. I also get Wedge vibes from the fear, but he's more Zack in the end because pupper.

Lab Visit (Sephiroth x Scientist!Reader)

(Set in Crisis Core)

Sephiroth was due for a physical today. He was supposed to receive new Mako injections and stamina boosters, as per Hojo's orders. You, one of Shinra's top scientists, had been ordered to complete this procedure. While the very mention of such a task frightened your fellow scientists, you were not to be deterred. Sephiroth was a bristly, rather cold person, but he wasn't as cold to you, which could probably be credited to the little friendship the two of you had built. Over the years, Sephiroth's visits to the lab had brought you company, real company, not the ramblings of some deranged lunatic who lurked about in the shadows. Sephiroth was different, both physically and mentally, though you could never tell why. There was something about him that enabled his very presence to be both calming and terrifying all at the same time. Yes, the man could be nice at times, but there were several disastrous instances where he lashed out in anger at anyone who dared approach him with a needle or syringe, though when you did it, you were a different story. One could even say...he trusted you. This trust allowed you to do things to him no one else could, such as take samples of his blood without him going ballistic and destroying everything in the lab in a fit of rage--or possibly, fear.

"Y/N," A low, sinister voice intoned, as an old man with greasy black hair tied back in a low ponytail emerged from the shadows.

"Dr. Hojo," You greeted, feeling yourself tense under his menacing gaze. Of all the scientists--no--all the people in Shinra, Hojo was who you detested the most. The acts he'd committed were unforgivable. Turning your own assistants and fellow scientists into mutant creatures for "research"?! Unbelievable! Not to mention the things he'd done to Sephiroth before you'd even arrived. You hadn't even uncovered the details of what happened, but you knew it had to be bad.

Still, Hojo was your employer; he was paying your wages and providing you with opportunities to learn and grow your experience--as well as chances to talk to Sephiroth more often, so you had to grit your teeth and bead it.

"The subject will be here soon," He finally said, sounding rather giddy. "Prepare the equipment. I want samples of everything." You gulped, knowing full well that when Hojo said he wanted "everything", he meant everything. Skin samples, hair samples, sweat samples, and more. You barely finished gathering up your gear when a familiar figure trooped through the door.

"Dr. Y/N, how do you do?" You spun around, trying--and failing--to hide the grin on your face.

"General Sephiroth, a pleasure to see you again. Do have a seat." Sephiroth nodded before tugging off his leather trench coat, revealing his lack of underclothes. He hung the coat on a rack on the wall and took a seat on the hospital-style bed you'd prepared for him. From the corner, Hojo watched, a devious glint in his eye. You busied yourself with gathering up vials and beakers, and such, while the two men glared at each other silently. After several minutes, Hojo departed, presumably to slither back into whatever hole he crawled out of, leaving the two of you alone in the room. Almost instantly, the tense mood was lifted.

"I can't believe you can put up with him," Sephiroth sighed, crossing his bare arms. You shrugged, sterilizing a needle with alcohol.

"Believe me, I'm trying very hard not to throw something acidic at his head." Your eyes met, smirks both plastered on your faces.

"I would like to see you do that," Sephiroth chuckled, extending his arm for you to prick.

"And to do so would be my dream come true," You responded, gently pricking his arm with the needle and drawing a few small drops of blood.

Sephiroth nodded, a smile on his face as he relaxed into the hospital bed. Over the course of the next hour, you collected all the samples Hojo would need for his sick creations, and once the Mako infusion drip was in, you were both free to chat, about work, about your own personal lives, about everything. Throughout the entirety of this short visit, Sephiroth looked happier than you'd ever seen him, even though he was in a place he hated. He was happy with you, and you were happy with him.

Once the infusion was complete and Sephiroth was free to leave, he did so reluctantly, for the only reason he braved the nightmares of this lab, the only reason he subjected himself to experimentation, was so he could see you.

*Zack enters the room, goes "pspspspspssp" and Sephiroth comes to him to receive head pats*

Lucrecia: He has a harem.

You also get the bitter-sweet real answer because I listened to my go-to Lucrecia+Sephiroth song (Light - Sleeping At Last) and it inspired this:

Her regret is almost numbed when she sees that he’s not alone. Friends surround him, offering a semblance of normalcy through their support. Despite what he was molded to be, Sephiroth remains kind, his hope undiminished even in the face of cruelty. He has dreams for a normal life, possessing his own likes and dislikes, things that make him laugh, a humor he keeps sharp. He’s human, and it makes her question the vision she had once seen.

She mourns her inability to provide him with the normal life he deserves, now confined to observing the one he leads. Nonetheless, she finds comfort in his joy, his friendships, and his capacity to find beauty in the world. She sees him diligently searching for clues to his past, and all she wishes is to reach out, to kiss his forehead, to tell him she’s sorry, that she loves him—his quirks, his personality, his ability to make his friends adore him for who he is. She is eternally grateful for those who love him in her absence.

Dr Ratio grew on me a lot; he is now my favourite in the game.

Boothill is still amazing though, I keep going back and forth between liking him as much as Dr Ratio or slightly less.

The crocodile-skinned notebook that bore his schedule for the day held the decorative and regal scripture handwriting of Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Vincent's (@phantomyre-vincent-valentine) name was especially satisfying to write. He dubbed his name romantic, as would anyone with the last name 'Valentine'.

It was his lack of a 'valentine' that sent a referral to Hannibal's door. While Hojo would never step forth in the Good Doctor's Study, he found Lucrecia's presence more and more (without Hojo's knowledge). This young man was proving to be something of a hot subject with her. The vestibule door opened, and Dr. Lecter, complete with wearing one of his finely tailored darker suits, welcomed the young man further into his house.

"Have a seat if you are so inclined," he speaks, his voice almost monotone, one he often gives when greeting newly appointed patients. Nervousness was not unusual; very few people were at ease with opening their lives to a complete stranger at first. Two chairs bask in the glow of a flickering fireplace.

The chairs were once closer together across from one another until a fatal flaw was performed. One of his patients touched his knee, and that was the end of it.

Hannibal is sure Vincent won't mind the distance. Unlatching the button from his jacket, he reclines in the plush leather seat, one leg over the other while balancing the notebook and fountain pen. "Shall we begin?"

Most children figure out the "ma" sound first, which is why we have "mama"/"mom"/etc. Babyroth's first sound he figured out was probably silence to avoid drawing attention. Maybe that's why Jenova clicks so well with him--she doesn't speak out loud, just like he learned not to.

Hojo definitely did some wire-mother/soft-mother shit with him and he cuddled with the soft mother until it was taken away. With all pleasant touch removed, he searches for other pleasantness. Imagine Babyroth with his heightened senses, turning towards sources of milk and happy, protective scents...but being blocked by Hojo.

Nobody plays peekaboo with him, but they do disappear when Hojo's displeased with them.

Toddler babyroth wants to show off his finds or skills to someone, but no one coos at him and it feels wrong, deep in his tiny, soft bones, but he has no idea how to not feel the wrongness, it’s been a stifling blanket over his whole life.

Jenova's a shapeshifter who eats planets, she can become big enough to hold him like a little baby like no one has before. Even if he knew about Lucrecia, she can't do that for him, the opportunity is gone. Hojo would support his head, but he wouldn't hold the baby in the crook of his arm nestled up to his breast, looking down at him lovingly. (Jenova has another bonus there, because of her booby-eye.)

Really, it’s no wonder he turns to her in the end.

A ship I have with said character: Despite Sephiroth being one of my favorite characters I don't have many ships for him. Probably Sephiroth/Therapy is the biggest one, he deserves to be happy. I do love me some Sefikura though it's mostly when it's one sided. Sephiroth being absolutely obsessed with Cloud and Cloud wanting none of it is something I enjoy a little too much. @case-of-traxits may have also used her siren song to lure me into the SephTseng dinghy

A BROTP I have with said character: Sephiroth and Zack. I really like the dynamic they have and I hope we get some interactions with them in Rebirth since it would be heartbreaking for Zack to see the carnage his former friend leaves wherever he goes.

A NOTP I have with said character: AeriSeph, SephTi, Sephentine are my hard ones but it's just my opinion and it's a-okay if you enjoy those ships they're just not for me

A random headcanon: I have so many so I'll give a few short ones

1. Because he grew up in a lab and wore nothing but underwear and a hospital gown for the first 14 years of his life he dislikes wearing clothes, this has proved to be a huge issue in the SOLDIER locker rooms and Lazard has received many "anonymous" complaints that certain SOLDIERS are not doing their part to protect their honor

2. After Nibelheim he has a habit of watching Cloud sleep, it's one of his favorite hobbies, actually

3. His chest straps make him feel secure

4. He doesn't have many memories of Dr. Gast but those he does have are positive and include Dr. Gast telling him stories

5. He tried to escape the lab several times during his childhood which resulted in severe punishment from Hojo each time

General Opinion over said character: Along with Yuffie and Yuna, Sephiroth is my favorite Final Fantasy character. He is so beautifully and tragically written and steals every scene he's in. I could write more but we'd be here all day.

A random headcanon: again I have a few

1. He and Yuffie are roommates post canon. He sometimes regrets this decision

2. Once he gets a phone and learns how to text he is not very good at it and often sends lengthy text messages that sound like letters

3. He has PTSD related memory issues

4. He begins to smell faintly of formaldehyde when he goes for long enough without showering, when he first got out of the coffin this smell was very strong

5. His coffee is more sugar and cream than coffee and he adores the most calorie dense, sugary drinks on the menu at his favorite coffee shop

General Opinion over said character: I love Vincent! He's tied with Aerith and Auron for my second fav Final Fantasy character. I even modded a zine for him and run a fanweek for him at @vincentvalentineweek !
