The King's last gift

Danny was tired, tired of being responsible for protecting the world. At first it was just Amity but the ghosts began to explore more and the halfa was exhausted. He was the only hero available and it was taking its toll.

He knew he couldn't go on like this, let alone with his coronation around the corner but he didn't know what else to do. He knew he couldn't interfere with the world after the crown was on his head. The world would fear him (maybe even more than now) and protecting them with so much power in hand could do more harm than good, but if he didn't protect them, who would?

His core ached at the thought of all those people begging for a hero who wouldn't come, so Danny took desperate measures, and cheated a little.

He visited Desiree; she watched him with a raised eyebrow, curious. And Danny did what he forbade long ago, he wished. He wished for the future and for humanity itself, he uttered the words he had wanted to say ever since he knew he would not be able to visit earth for a long time.

"I wish for the world to be safe even when I no longer live in it, I wish for there to be someone who can protect it, even if it's just a human."

Desiree blinked in surprise not expecting the King who had "forbidden" her to do such a thing. She smiled and nodded. Her power grew exponentially but neither she nor Danny said anything about it. The halfa would not undo that wish after all.

In New Jersey, Thomas and Martha Wayne were celebrating the birth of their son. Neither of them noticed the spark of magic entering the baby, nor the boy's unusually blue eyes. Bruce Wayne, the Ghost King's latest gift to mankind, had been born.

Rereading Tiptree is making me think about space exploration... I still maintain that the whole FTL trillionaire fleet carried a few thousand people at the most. And many of them didn't make it

Thinking about this...

I know that TLT seems to have a very high number of random planets that are suitable for human life compared to what we currently know about our universe + Tazmuir has been known to bend scientific details to suit her storytelling, and also this is a world where planets have souls so who cares about science anyway, but.

BUT. I still think that the FTL fleet was a last resort operation, the ships jumped blind with one (1) chance to settle without being able to count on the resources of a home base, and I think they were almost nearly wiped out.

i'm very happy with the giggle but i am a teensy bit disappointed donna didn't get to save the doctor's ass -- it's a consequence of the third episode pulling triple duty with involving UNIT/maggie and the passing of the baton, i think. on the other hand! she gets to stay with her family - which she wanted to do - and she's working for UNIT now, which means she gets adventures and to be involved with big things the way she wanted to!! the epilogue focused on home life bc that's the doctor's retirement but i will also amuse myself with imagining that now donna spends most of her working hours body-slamming alien drama away from him. the doctor is always a trouble magnet. he cannot go on vacation or settle down without something going wrong. except this time donna is here and she has access to a laser. he's taking maggie and rose around and keeps stumbling across plot hooks but donna's already taken care of them. he goes shopping with shaun and the automated checkout sounds a little different but instead of fighting a computer virus with a grudge he gets the milk and goes home because donna already took care of it. there's an almighty crash while he's examining an excavated spaceship for unit and donna comes around the corner holding a comically oversized wrench and a squashed space bug. he's taking a walk with wilf and sees donna across the park and the ends of her hair are smoking a little bit but she gives them both a kiss on the cheek and says she'll tell the story over dinner. alien war fleet comes to demand the doctor and she yells at the commander until they go away. unit hasn't been able to get a list of the loose ends he's left on earth because he's always running around but she knows where he sleeps and holds his towel hostage while he's in the shower until he dictates everything he can remember through the door. scene where fourteen is at a convenience store talking to fifteen on the new tardis cellphone network and donna football-tackles a purple guy with a phaser in the background.

Honestly the eclipse makes me think about the final shots from The Rite of Spring segment of Fantasia and how every time I watch it I just have to sit there and stare at a wall for a few minutes processing it all and I wonder if literally anyone else feels the way I do about that segment

I love everyone on my feed agreeing about how truly terrible the ahsoka show was.

Not the cinematography or the actors being terrible (because they weren’t. Every actor in ahsoka show ate.)

But the writing itself.

What happened to ahsoka on malachor? Why didn’t we lead with that? Cause really that was the last time we actually saw her without just posing in the background.

What happened to the journey that was supposed to take months to YEARS to find ezra? Why didn’t we get to see this whole new galaxy and explore it instead of being absolutely THROWN at with a plate with Ezra’s head on it.

What happened to sabine being a MANDALORIAN and what happened to the idea that you had to be born with the force to wield it?

Why were these absolutely BANGING characters from one of the best pieces of Star Wars media, moulded to fit a show format that nobody has liked? I mean who ACTUALKY likes the 6-10 episode seasons with random times for each one? What happened to 22 episode seasons with two parts?

Why was this beautiful, hopeful, devastating story crushed into 8 meager episodes that amounted to nothing.
