Depression ✨ the reason his room is an absolute disaster is because he has depression and i have absolutely no excuse for the mattress, but it’s also most likely fucking old and Eddie is prone to spilling his drinks in bed and using his blankets to cover it while it dries.

He has a thing about being touched. If he’s not warned or its by someone he doesn’t know he’ll get extremely uncomfortable, of course there’s very few exceptions to this.

He’s so fucking traumatized, flinches whenever someone moves too fast.

He cannot win fights for the life of him but he will not back down from one, he knows very well he’ll get his ass kicked and still won’t back down.

All his life, all seven years of it so far, Eddie has been told to be quiet, to sit still, and to not touch things. He can’t help it most of the time– there are so many things to explore, and learn, and find, so many different textures to feel. Eddie learns best when he’s able to physically hold something in hands to help him focus and it’s gotten him into trouble on more than one occasion. 

But living with Wayne, at least for the summer, he’s been given more opportunities than ever before to lean into his curious nature without being scolded. They’ve gone to museums, petting zoos, science centers, even the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Each new experience is a novelty and Eddie’s loved every single one of them. Today though, Eddie’s nervous. 

“You almost ready, kid?” Wayne pokes his head into Eddie’s bedroom, warm smile and a cocked eyebrow. Eddie’s been taking his time, untying and retying his shoelaces over and over to stall. 

“Uh, yeah! Yeah, I’m ready.” Eddie offers a tight smile, one that feels faux even to him. 

“Do you not wanna go? We can try something else if the library isn’t your thing.” 

Eddie shakes his head. “No, I wanna go! It’s just…”

Wayne enters the room fully, sitting down on the bed next to Eddie who fidgets with his fingers and looks down at the floor, his feet swaying back and forth over the edge of the bed.

“Just what?” He doesn’t touch him, but Wayne’s presence alone is comforting enough. 

“What if I get in trouble? Aren’t you supposed to be super quiet and stuff in libraries?” 

Eddie knows Wayne well enough by now to know that he’d never get in trouble that way that he has with his dad, but he doesn’t want to disappoint or embarrass Wayne, either. 

“Well, yeah, on the grown up floor for the cranky old guys like me,” Wayne bumps his shoulder against Eddie’s, and Eddie can’t help but smile– real this time. “But there’s a whole children’s room that has games, lots of books, fun stuff. And if it feels like too much, you just give me our little signal and we’re outta there.” 

When Eddie first started going places with Wayne, they’d developed their secret signal that probably wasn't too secret but worked just the same– Eddie would stand next to Wayne and step on his foot. Not hard, not enough to hurt, but enough that Wayne would notice, look down, and see Eddie’s overwhelm. And like promised, they’re outta there. No questions asked. 

“Okay, I think I’m ready then.” Eddie stands up and heads toward the front of the trailer. “Let’s go.” 

They’re at the library for all of a few minutes, Eddie hesitant to leave Wayne’s side as they scour the fantasy books, when he meets another kid around his age, maybe a little younger. Both boys go to reach for the same illustrated copy of a book about dragons. 

“Oh, sorry, you can take it,” Eddie offers, moving his hand instinctually. 

“No, no it’s okay, you were looking at it first. Go ahead.” The other boy responds, shrugging and looking back at the shelf. 

There’s a woman behind him, smiling down fondly as she speaks. “Sweetie, why don’t you share with your new friend?” 

“Yeah, if you wanna share, we could. Only if you want to though.” Eddie bounces on his heels, hopeful. He doesn’t get to make a lot of friends when he’s home with his parents. 

“Okay, yeah,” the little boy smiles carefully and pulls the book from the shelf. 

Eddie follows him to a small table at the end of the aisle and they pour over the pages, full of colorful illustrations and short stories. Eddie loses track of time, but he and his new friend, who he learns is named Jonathan, are just kids who don’t need to watch the clock. 

They finish the book and return for another, and then another. Eddie's disappointed when the day ends and they have to leave, but he sees Wayne trade contact information with Jonathan's mom, Joyce.

"We'll see you again next week, Eddie. It was so nice to meet you." Joyce smiles, sweet and comforting, and Eddie isn't so afraid of the library anymore.

💪 self defense fic (s2 AU. Buck got mugged and loses faith in his safety, so Bobby introduces him to Eddie who will teach him self defense. Not Buck isn't just struggling with feeling unsafe but also with finding Eddie, a stranger, attractive) gonna be a longer fic, I think about 3-4K is written? Will be a single chapter.

🫃 Omegaverse fic (Buck always believed he was a beta but then after mating with Eddie, am Alpha, he starts feeling strange. With the help of Bobby, he figures out that his parents lied to him and did an illegal surgery on him when he presented as an Omega to block any Omega hormones. Buck worries because Eddie only dated betas before him and they never talked about having children) Know this is not everyone's cup of tea since it's both onegaverse and mpreg. Not started yet though I have a snippet written down somewhere in my notes. It's about time I write this.

There are a few wips I almost added to this but then I would really be working on too many at once. Soo... once I finish one or two of these, maybe I'll tease them or add them to a post like this. (It's a PTA dads au and a whumpy fic based on a the rookie episode... honestly makes me want to reconsider not doing whumptober this year because it would be perfect)

I love reading fics where Steve is disabled, be it hard of hearing, seizures, chronic migraines, like he's had too many concussions not to have any issues from it. (I think its because I have a neurological disability and Steve is my comfort character, so projecting.)

But something that really gives me the ick is I've noticed a lot more ST fic recently have been handling disabled characters in a really ableist way (100% not all, just noticed more) and quite often they're just infantilising the disabled characters. I've noticed this the most when Steve is disabled, because I mostly read Steve-centric fics, but I have also noticed it with Robin and Eddie.

I've been seeing a lot of other characters addressing Steve and Robin as if they were toddlers when they are written as disabled, in ways that no adult should speak to anyone who is over the age of 5. Especially when Steve is written in a post-seizure state, or Robin is having a panic attack. Like, they might not be fully aware, but they are not children.

Sometimes, its other characters treating Steve as if he is incapable of doing anything on his own if he is disabled. As if the only things he can do without constant supervision is lie in bed or sit on a couch and watch tv. I saw one fic where others scolded him for getting out of bed to go to the bathroom without asking for help, and it wasn't as if he was recently injured or fresh out of a seizure, he was in pretty good health aside from being at risk of seizures.

With Robin, I've seen her written as if she needs to be treated like a fragile 2 year old otherwise she is in a constant state of panic attack and is always totally useless, and I've seen people use this sort of attitude to write her out of the high stress situations. Or she will just always go off on unrelated tangents so she isn't useful because she interrupts the people who know what they're talking about. Or she's written as if her rambling is a liability and she can't be trusted because if she got caught she'd 100% tell the bad guys everything.

And with Eddie I've noticed some people who write him as autistic (I love autistic and ADHD Eddie) seem to have him just constantly biting people like he is a nonverbal three-year-old who has figured out that their easiest way to communicate is by using their teeth. And it always with the attitude "it doesn't matter if he hurts people by biting them because it is his method of self-regulating."

(And no, I do NOT accept the billy stans who claim that it is ableist to talk about the bad things he's done. like, no that man is not canonically disabled (I've seen billy stans say he is canonically bipolar or has bpd? Like no.), he is canonically racist and abusive. even if he was canonically disabled that isn't an excuse for his behavior. also, I know people that have bipolar or bpd, and they arent racist and abusive. in fact they are some of the most careful people about what they can control of their behavior because they are worried about becoming abusive to their loved ones).

i enjoy reading fics where steve’s injuries have repercussions too. though it definitely isn’t always written well.

i think because the duffers ignore his injuries so much, people kinda go into hyperdrive and over-acknowledge them, almost. i think it also comes from wanting steve to be as angsty as possible, which means people don’t treat his disability’s very… nicely? they usually just use his conditions to ruin his life and make him miserable, and infantilise him, like you said.

i honestly think people just know fuck all about seizures, and cannot be bothered to look it up, but still want steve to experience them so they can make him as sad and depressed as possible.

they see seizures as this, like, life-ending condition, and so use them to kinda destroy steve’s life.

i think a lot of people also use his disabilities to get steve cared for, because we all want people to take care of the poor boy. but again, they just over-do it, and make it seem like he’s a little baby that can’t do anything.

i honestly don’t think most of these people are doing this from a place of harm. i think they honestly want to depict steve experiencing these things and being comforted etc. they’re just kinda ignorant.

i am very lucky that i haven’t seen fics that treat robin like that, because i honestly think i’d explode lol.

and yeah, the biting thing was kinda funny at first, and then it got kinda weird… people just see a fandom joke and do what fandoms always do, which is drag it out, and make it so extreme it’s barely recognisable as the original idea.

(yeah, with no character should you excuse their actions with a mental illness. like, billy’s abuse explains why he is the way he is, but it doesn’t excuse it. even when you have a mental illness you can’t just use that as an excuse to treat people like crap, and they’re entitled to call you out for doing so.)

Wanna watch me ramble about Frank and Eddie's Parenting for Much Too Long? No? Too bad here it is anyway!

I see a lot of interpretations of Frank and Eddie as parents where Eddie is the more lenient parent while Frank is more strict. But what if it was the other way around?

Update: ok. this just turned into me talking about their flaws as parents,, oh well that's cool to think about to

Frank's "not afraid to get dirty" attitude could lend itself to him being a parent who would let his kid go about and explore (with appropriate supervision and reasonable curfew of course) and overall have more faith in them to not get in too much trouble. Curfew to him is an agreed upon time between him and the teen, so about 10-11pm, maybe 12am if they're old enough and it's not a school night. He's far less likely to ground or take away privileges if they get into trouble (unless it's school but I'll get to that), usually turning it into a learning opportunity. Maybe restricting curfew if necessary.

Eddie on the other hand, has some worry wort tendencies and would be Terrified of his babies going out on their own, even if they're supervised by a friend's parent. His idea of a weekend curfew is 7-8pm and he needs a phone call or text every hour. or maybe every half hour. And when they do get into trouble he is the first to lecture them. He's more likely to want to ground or take privileges entirely, not just change curfew. Eddie's fine with after school stuff because knows a Teacher will be there and it's a school program/function. Though field trips and prom still make him a nervous wreck.

Frank hardly gets to lecture the kid(s) because Eddie gets to it first. the only time he does is when Eddie gets Too Upset or overwhelmed and Frank's worried he'll start yelling at them.

Though Frank's not without flaw either. Frank is more concerned with grades than Eddie is. He's more likely to pressure them By Accident and bring up college a lot when they're older. Eddie on the other hand never went to college, and knowing the American school system, he probably had more 'C's than 'A's despite how smart he really is. So Eddie is less concerned with perfect grades and believes if the kid doesn't want to go to college they shouldn't be pressured into it.

I won't go too in depth but I don't think Frank did many extracurriculars in high school. Meanwhile Eddie was getting into all sorts of activities. So when their child's grades have been slipping, Frank is the one to bring up taking them out of their extracurriculars "so they can focus on their grades." To which Eddie responds with a very firm No because he knows how much extracurriculars can mean to a kid.

Frank is also more strict with chores and such. Their room needs to be clean before they go anywhere, they make their bed every day, etc. Eddie is on board, but he understands Organized Chaos and that sometimes it takes a few extra minutes to get up and start a chore. (ADHD and Depression let's go babyy) Though he is stern about getting them done by a certain time (like before dinner). Frank would rather it be done sooner/when told.

In conclusion, Frank doesn't mean to pressure them so much, and Eddie doesn't mean to be so overbearing. They're great parents, but no one is perfect. I think they'd learn and grow overtime especially with each other to bounce off of and rely on. So in the end they turn out to be great parents whose kid(s) call and visit regularly when they're adults.

So I dont know about y’all but Eddie isn’t dead to me.

He got out of the upside down, he got his name cleared somehow, he walked that stage got his diploma and “ran like hell outta there” and him and his uncle now live in another place. He still plays with his band all the time, he still joins the boys for there campaigns at the school even though he doesn’t go there anymore, he starts to become a big part of the gang and there all friends now.

Edward Munson gets his happy ending not because I said so, but because he deserved it after everything that town put him through. Because I’m tired of people who are different getting killed off just because well.. there different.

Barb was weird, and only had like one friend she was an outcast, bob was bullied and had no friends he was an outcast, Fred was a bit weird and seemed to only have a few friends and one of them being dead. And Eddie the metal-head, rock-loving weirdo was the biggest outcast of them all and he died why?

Because he was different, he didn’t need to die he could of lived, I’ll never understand why they sacrificed him and he was perceived as a coward/no hero, when he was just as willing to do the things Steve, Robin or Nancy would do. And why was he a coward, because he ran from Chrissy’s death? Like any other normal person.

And they all went on like nothing happened two days ago. Like he wasn’t a living human being, like he didn’t have his own hopes and dreams. It was just so simple to let him live. Like he just wanted to listen to Black Sabbath and his other music on the way to school and dress in cool clothes without anyone judging him, he wanted to “snatch that diploma and run like hell outta there”. He wanted to play in his band in his free time and get lost in the music and he wanted to play D&D with the boys just to escape reality for a bit because we all know how shitty it can be at times.

He might just be a show character but to them he was alive, and he was real, and to me he was real as well, because I felt like I belong with him like if a took a sit at his table he wouldn’t shun me away he’d welcome me in instead and he’d embrace my differences. he made me realize it’s ok to be weird and different, it’s ok if you talk to much and people don’t understand you sometimes. It’s ok if you struggle at school because of your ADHD or your learning disabilities or just because school is hard it’s ok to be different with him because he’s different to. He has had such an impact on my life one I didn’t think he would, so in the end It’s like his death meant nothing to them, once they got what they wanted out of him they just didn’t care anymore.

But I know I would care… just like so many other would too. If it was me I wouldn’t stop looking for the guy who let me sit at his table because I had no one else to eat with, if it was me I’d advocate for him ever single damn day, because he might talk a big game but he’d never hurt anyone on purpose, especially the way Chrissy died. If it was me I’d mount his death like no other telling everyone the truth of what he was really like. Because the boy with the childish grin and baby brown eyes who’d give you the shirt off his back just to see you smile, didn’t deserve to die a for a town who never saw him as anything more than a freak and now a monster.

Anyways, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk y’all. This is just how I feel about Stranger Things as a whole I feel like more outcast/different people die then any one else. Chrissy died and she was popular but we all know she would fit right in with Eddie and the gang, Jason died because he’s an asshole and deserved it and Billy died to further the plot for Max. Honestly no surprises if they kill off Will or El, next season because there different. Or maybe not since they’re scared to kill off the main group people, I think they even probably felt like they pushed it far this season with Max. 🤦🏻‍♀️

In conclusion, Eddie didn’t deserve to go out that way or at all. He deserved the whole damn world and I’m so fucking sad I couldn’t give it to him!! Eddie Munson I’m so sorry the Duffers did you so dirty!! 😖

Kind of want to toss more snippets of things that probably won't become long extended fics up onto tumblr. So: Eddie/Chrissy, with deeply bisexual ADHD disaster child Eddie, because we deserve it. (Also background hints of Steve/Nancy, but rest assured Eddie is 100% projecting and highly incorrect about that dynamic.)

Chrissy lives, through sheer dumb luck -- a tape shoved into a player out of some vague idea in the back of Eddie's mind that he could be smooth, could maybe help a pretty girl who for some godforsaken reason seemed to like him have a good time -- and it's great, it's incredible, it's more luck than any of them should've ever dared hope for--

And Eddie is thrilled, obviously. Terrified out of his mind, pretty sure he should be running for the hills, but. Chrissy Cunningham is alive, and for some bizarre, unfathomable reason, she seems to like him.

It's just...jesus christ, what is he supposed to do with that?

It's not that Eddie doesn't like girls. Girls are pretty, and smell good, and have curves in places he's maybe imagined putting his hands a time or two (thousand), and have generally starred in at least thirty to forty percent of his favorite jerk-off fantasies for the past several years. But the general class of females of approximately his own age in Hawkins, Indiana have heretofore been somewhat disinclined to follow up on Eddie's occasional flirtations, and somehow he doesn't think the other skill set is going to be much help here.

It's just...look. Eddie knows, he knows goddamn well that for ninety-nine point nine percent of guys like him, whose eyes skate over the slope of a gentleman's broad shoulders as readily as the swell of a lady's hips, that the easy road would mean playing straight for sixty-some-odd years, marrying a nice girl who doesn't ask too many questions, and maybe getting the occasional blowjob in a truck stop bathroom from a pretty boy you pretend you don't want half as much as you actually do. Of course he knows that. He's given those blowjobs, a lot more often than he's ever had a nice girl like Chrissy Cunningham look at him twice. Because that's the thing, isn't it, once again the Munson luck striking right at the heart of things. Once again, Eddie isn't like every other guy in Hawkins or Indiana or, fuck, the whole damn world probably. Can't just do things the normal way. Has to do everything opposite, and look where that's gotten him lately.

Truck-stop bathrooms are easy. The grit of them, the feel of cold tile through thin denim, the taste of latex and the smell of musk and sweat and come, a thick-fingered hand in his hair and the press of tight muscle under his fingertips, the rush of knowing that even on his knees, he's the one with the power here -- it's good. It's so good, the back rooms of that bar in Indy where one flash of his fake ID gets him an all-access pass to all the sex a boy could want, no strings attached. Slipping into that space is almost as easy, as natural, as slipping into the DM's seat at Hellfire. He doesn't even have to change his look, just makes sure the bandana is tucked into the correct pocket and they come to him, ready to let Eddie take the reins and drag them into something just painful enough to be really satisfying when they make it through to the end.

That's the thing about being a freak. That's the thing, that's always the thing, the backwards mixed-up thing in Eddie's brain that had him reading Tolkien before he turned nine but can't get through one Charles Dickens novel without wanting to scrape himself out of his own skin. He can calculate probabilities and percentage tables for a D&D game in his sleep but can't sit still through a single math class. It took less than a week to get note-perfect on the entire Master of Puppets guitar solo and six years might not be enough to graduate high school.

So yeah, Eddie knows how to be a freak and a faggot, can take a grown man to pieces with his hands and his voice and his dick if he just clicks into that zone where he has all the power to shape the world the way he wants it. That doesn't mean he has any goddamn idea what to do when Chrissy Cunningham smiles at him like that and he trips over his own feet.

He should be looking at Harrington. Steve goddamn Harrington is striding around like that, absolutely shirtless, streaked in dirt and his own blood like some goddamn primal warrior come to life. That would be safe. Safer. Something. Pretty boy in just the right amount of pain, Eddie should be enjoying the eye candy, but he can't because: 1) they're literally in hell and monsters could come after them at any time, 2) Nancy Wheeler apparently has a bedroom full of actual guns and is still in love with her ex-boyfriend, so Eddie's pretty sure he'd better keep his eyes to himself if he wants to keep them at all, and 3) far more importantly than all of that, Chrissy is scared enough to be holding his hand and he's terrified that his palms might be sweating. She's so pretty. He wants her to actually like him so, so badly. This is an absolute nightmare.

"You doing okay?" he asks Chrissy quietly, letting her lean on his arm to help her over some rough terrain when they have to take a detour around a knot of vines. She clutches at his sleeve and smiles timidly, putting on a brave face that makes Eddie want to do something insane like find a suit of shining armor just so he can bow to her in it.

"We're going to be fine," she says. "We just have to get to Nancy's house and it'll all be okay. Right?"

"Gonna let Wheeler make you a a total badass with a gun?" Eddie asks, and then mentally kicks himself. Who flirts with a girl by calling her a total badass? How do smooth guys flirt with girls if they stick around past the initial five minutes of inviting them to come see your band, which literally no girl has ever actually said yes to before? Eddie isn't even sure he has a band any more, if Chrissy's ex-boyfriend has anything to say about it, which means he's kind of out of ideas.

Eddie has one blinding, insane moment of wondering what would Jason Carver do here? before he almost chokes on his own tongue. Fuck. He really can't do this.

"Maybe," Chrissy says, a little shy, and slides her hand down his arm to slip her palm into his again. "Do you think I could?"

There's a smudge of dirt on her perfect nose. Eddie wants to lick it off. Oh god he's a freak. You can't lick cheerleaders. Fuck, Eddie doesn't even know how to go down on a girl. Fuck, why did he think about that. It doesn't matter! He's never going to get the chance! Chrissy is never going to want him to touch her like that anyway!

"I think if the last few days have proven anything, it's that literally anything is possible," Eddie says, and then realizes he just implied that Chrissy being a badass is even more unlikely than alternate dimensions, which is probably even worse than calling her one in the first place, and holy shit, how is it even possible to be this awful at this? Why is she still standing here with him? "I mean, I could even stop being a coward who apparently runs away from absolutely everything, which I've discovered I am now, that's how weird things are, so yeah, compared to that, Chrissy, I think you could absolutely be a badass if you wanted to be."

"I don't think you're a coward," Chrissy says, and she's stepping closer, why is she stepping closer, tucking their arms together. "I mean, I couldn't even run away. He would've gotten me right there, if you hadn't..."

"Luckily I think Harrington and Wheeler are big enough heroes for all of us." Eddie catches sight of them up ahead, Wheeler on point like a hunting hound leading the way, Harrington keeping watch on all sides with that flashlight ready to spring into action at any minute. It should probably be Harrington back here with Chrissy, if he and Wheeler weren't so obviously the perfect battle couple together. Hell, even Buckley, who's up front with Nancy right now and who Eddie knows he clocked checking out Chrissy's legs earlier. She's awkward, yeah, but on her it'd be endearing, and maybe Chrissy deserves better than cowardly asshole boys for a while anyway.

She definitely deserves better than Eddie. She tugs him out of the way of a vine half a second before he trips over it in the dark, like a klutz and a dumbass, and Eddie curses himself for a failure.

A/N: I’ve got both, so whatever is there is based from what I know of it because well, I have it. These are thoroughly general but some are based from what I go through, so just to let you know.

WARNING(S): cussing, brief stereotypes from others that they put, mentions/implied bullying, not much else? Let me know though if there are more.

Let me just tell you, Eddie has both so— let’s get to it. (There’s so much here). I tried to section/ label them into two but then I fucked that up so it’s sort of out of order.

Whether you’ve known him or you just met, your by each others side often. 

Just met? It was either through one of your hyper-fixations or someone was bullying you.

If it was through a hyper-fixation, one of you probably went up to the other when they saw. You might expect it to be Eddie but it was you honestly. You overheard him make some reference and you couldn’t leave without telling him something. Might’ve even interrupted him without even knowing.

Expect him to look at you with a parted mouth, his brows pulled together as he’s taken back that you knew what he was talking ‘bout.

“You know [where the reference is from]?” He gets up before pointing at you with his fore and end finger.

“Uh huh.” Punctuation on the latter word. And you pull out a chair and seat yourself next to him.

Cue you two talking for quite some time. Getting into the conversation as you both gesture. 

Honestly for you, it depends when it comes to talking— because you either talk too much or too little.

If one of you was bullied, then the other would’ve stepped in. Most likely Eddie.

It becomes instinct as time goes, not just because you both understand each other but because you’re never not together. You got the others back no matter what— even if you guys tend to be unsure sometimes or even threatened too.

There is too the hc of you two meeting by being partnered. Your both in class but neither of you are really listening. So when it comes to being set up, your both trying to put together the little you got from the instructions or you totally forget that you’re supposed to be working and are just talking.

The two of you sort of struggling when it comes to school. Whether it’s because you could never focus or because you were a little slow, it shows through your progress. It happens.

Expect to be stereotyped often. Teachers thinking you guys are just being typical students, typical teens (well not really Eddie since he’s in his twenties but forget that) where you’re just not listening and ‘choosing’ not to do it.

Or even just in general, wherever you’re at. Others are quick to put in their thoughts without even getting to know you. Or know that you’re not doing it intentionally. They should just put a foot in it.

Often being told that you’re too forward or literal, which people presume as you not having manners. ( I repeat, it’s NOT the same for everyone. These are typically what’s said to me or how I’m viewed. Those below too.)

Sometimes not quite getting subtext. It’s not all the time, you just every once in a while, you struggle to try and see the way it’s put. 

Trying to understand other’s feelings. Mostly on your part. Unless it was verbally stated, you won’t fully know. Non-verbal you struggle w/ a little more. Eddie though is more tuned w/ them.

Not using the ‘proper’ cues sometimes. 

Like the other day, when you were w/ Eddie. You met his Uncle who you hadn’t met before and when he went to greet you, your response to it was a nod and then ‘thanks.’ 

Or even Eddie too. He never quite understood or he does but would forget how often he gets in people’s faces. Unintentionally.

Not using the ‘proper’ tone either. Like where your tone doesn’t sync w/ your current mood.

Eddie would look at you w/ furrow brows as you talk.

“You okay?” And you just cock your head at his query.

“Mhm. Why?” As you follow in step with him and he just shrugs. “Nevermind.”

Not quite getting hints.

[cue reader not seeing the way Eddie is w/ them.] The guy is a total goner for you. Utterly so. 

Everyone knows of his feelings for you, except for well, you.

You guys are there for each other through everything. Trying to lend a hand wherever it may be.

Reference, if you’re stimming (especially in a case where it’s severe) and someone tries to stop you? NO. Eddie would more likely try to put himself between you and the unwelcomed person trying to touch you.

He might try to distract you too. He’s subtle with it.

You guys stim together. If you’re stimming, it triggers Eddie’s sometimes. And it’s the other way to. If he’s stimming, you stim.

Or if it’s for sensory sensitivity, getting the other out of there and then leaving them to settle.  

And if you got low tolerance to sensory that is. Where even the smallest to your senses can be extreme.

There was one time you felt lightheaded because of the lighting and then w/ the sounds that were there, it made your head hurt more. The overload was too much. So Eddie, pulled out his headset and put them on you.

Hyper-fixating together. Or talking ‘bout your hyper-fixations to each other. Eddie would be talking your ear off on the current campaign and then you’d go on ‘bout your interests. Both of you listening to the other. Sometimes even talking over each other or out of turn but it’s not intentional. You guys just get so into it sometimes. 

You’ll be duding each other every time one of you says something that just really peaks

“DUDE?!” “I KNOW—”

Eddie being there for you when your masks fluctuates.

It takes so much out of you so he’s constantly there to check on you.

When you feel your mask sort of failing, you tend to stutter, use less words or just go completely quiet. And you’ll more likely try to communicate non-verbally. It also means eye contact is out the door. So, Eddie will help you through it or change the subject of the conversation in order to get you out from under the constant stares.

If he’s not there, like say you’re at work or in classes, you’ll handle it but when you see him later— he has his arms extended out waiting to pull you into his chest. He knows. 

When Eddie’s nerves get to him, his eyes go everywhere. He stutters or in some cases just shoots out words to the point where you’re not sure what he’s saying.

You’ll take his hand in yours and rub it or link your fingers, letting him know you’re there. You got him. Nothing would happen to him as long as you’re w/ him.

When one of you can’t keep still (it’s a stereotype but what I’m referring to is when your not focused) the other would touch them in some way. Hands, squeezing the knee, back rubs, even holding out your end finger.

Or just talk. It helps and keep you guys close to the other. Plus, that’s when one of you tells the other more than they should. Mostly Eddie. He’s lowkey nosey or just happens to ‘overhear’ something and tells you later.

Like I stated before lending a hand whenever it may be. 

Eddie forgets some things quite often so you’ll keep telling him so he won’t forget. And if not, you’ll try to prep yourself for him. Like putting it in pen on your arm and even then, you forget too. Whether they’re simple or they take more. Subtle or more extreme.

He’s like that w/ you too.

The two of you are just there for each other in general.

You guys learning and or knowing the other’s compulsions.

Fidgeting w/ the others jewelry.

Eye contact? Not so much. Let me tell you. Eddie seems like he keeps it— you, no.

To an extent you could but other times, nuh uh. You try to keep it, you really do, but it’s not so simple.

Especially when you got these huge brown eyes staring back at you— looking at you and listening to you as if your his favorite song.

Harrison: was probably the shy, quiet kid in school who had like one or two friends and did science "experiments" at recess

As requested, my Stranger Things season 4 thoughts. Spoilers, obviously.

Overall, I think it’s pretty awesome and the strongest season since the first, but there’s some worrying things plus a bit that I’m really peeved about.

The Good:

I’m digging the longer episodes. I normally hate over an hour (Thank you, ADHD) but I’ve been desperate for content for so long, that it’s just been glorious. The finale is supposed to be over two hours, though. That might be a bit rough.  

I was worried they were going to try to redeem Brenner or retcon that he’s always been disgusting but I think I like the direction it’s going. I do hope they reveal how he survived though.

Every time El called Hopper “my dad” added a year to my life. Millie continues to knock it out of the park.

El, Jonathan, and Will being sibs. My heart is full. I hereby dub the Hopper/Byers clan as The Hyers family.  

Dr. Owens is back! I adore Paul Reiser. I like that he’s a dash more morally gray than most of our protagonists but is ultimately still very decent. The way he tracked down El was straight up epic.  

Argyle is funny as fuck but also a pure soul. I was a little apprehensive about “Jonathan becomes a stoner” but I think they’re pulling it off well. I definitely get why he’s stressed and depressed. Not being able to count on Hopper to step it up while Jonathan went off to school is not something I considered. Also, super different for Charlie acting wise and he’s nailing it.  

I adored Chrissy! I love that she wasn’t some bitchy Barbie but super sweet and just a little bit goofy. The poor angel never had a chance.  

Gah, those absolute badass agents trying to protect El and the Byer Boys. 😭   

Suzie’s family being complete Cheaper by the Dozen chaos was unexpected yet so fitting. Plus comedy gold. “I will repent later.”  

So happy to see Powell and Callahan again.

Steve’s face is still intact. Please keep it that way. That shit is so, so old and tired.  

Everyone screaming “DRIVE” in unison gets me every time. Probably fav running gag.   

The satanic panic stuff is good. I like that Jason has a sympathetic streak and believes his intentions are good. It makes him more interesting and makes it easier to get why others join him.

In general, I liked seeing that the jocks weren’t all just brainless meatheads and/or bullies. Bonus points for them always wearing their monogrammed jackets so I can remember their names! 🤣    

I’ve been waiting a long time for all the parents to get together and realize their kids have been lying their asses off for years. I always imagined Joyce being there and awkwardly trying to explain while not actually explaining. But Erica was a good alternative.

And oh, Erica. Still hilarious, to no one’s surprise. I just love that she’s not the typical “precocious girl” archetype. She likes math, politics/current events, instead of being a bookworm or a techie and confident and outspoken and not a wallflower.

Her shutting down Jason and threatening Lucas with whatever is under his bed slayed me. “The whole couch is on fire” is my new way of saying “that’s bullshit.” 

Joyce and Murray. I’m enjoying their dynamic and their adventure. A good, blend of mystery, suspense, action, and some charming zaniness. Murray as Yuri.  My sides.  

Yes, some of “Hopper the zek” stuff was a bit slow but they payoffs with his first escape and fighting the demogorgon were incredible. Not even getting into to his reunion with Joyce. Just. So. Precious and perfect.

Also, love Tom Wlaschiha since his Jaqen days. How many languages does that dude speak?? I’ll be so sad if he doesn’t get back to his little boy! They already got Alexei! They can’t have Dmitri, too!  

Eddie was kinda cringe at first in the cafeteria scene and seemed like the new Billy but dang, did that turn around. I loved him in the woods with Chrissy and he’s only gotten better. I’m so here for the way he’s just an unapologetic weirdo instead of The Cool Guy or the Bastard.  

Robin in Nancy’s clothes. I feel so seen. My sister would put me through that crap all the time when I was little.

Also thought it was nice that the hospital director admired Robin’s passion.

I’m liking Robin and Nancy being friends. It felt a lil forced at first but their field trip was everything I never knew I needed. Also, it’s nice we’re getting to see different characters interacting more.  

The new cast/cameos/homages are delightful. ‘Specially Freddie Krueger as Victor Creel. Loved the initial Hannibal Lector vibe of the scene.  

I am cautiously putting Mike and El here because they are long overdue to have some issues. But I hope things resolve between them because their relationship is a central part of the series to me.  

Max writing a goodbye note for Steve. I don’t know why but I think that’s so adorable. I guess ‘cause it means he does hang out with the kids (besides Dustin) when the world isn’t in danger and he’s absolutely the big bro she deserves.  

I straight up lost it when Dustin told Steve he was missing his collarbones but not his eyes. 🤣. 

Hopper’s cabin getting a cameo.  

I’ve started  watching a second time (tagging along for my parents first viewing) and the foreshadowing is damn good.  

It is so poignant that Will’s project was on Alan Turing.  A gem of an Easter egg, for sure.    

I thought we’d get a quick visit from Billy/Dacre and it was well done.  I’m glad it wasn’t a flashback because there wouldn’t have been a good way to do it, imo. A happy memory would feel like romanticized bullshit and we didn’t need any more unhappy ones.

I saw some people complaining that Max mourned him at all but he was her brother. And despite being a colossal asshole, he did choose to die as a human being instead of “living” as a monster. There’s nothing wrong or unrealistic about how Max feels right now.

 I cackled like a freaking loon when Lucas said, “when did Steve get so hairy?” Because I said the exact same thing the other day when rewatching season 3. For the first time, I noticed quite a bit of hair trying escape that Scoops Ahoy uniform and was a little shocked. 😂

On a more serious note, I always feel better seeing actors allowed to have body hair. Waxing is, like, borderline inhumane and since I’m not from the Capitol in The Hunger Games, people suffering for others’ entertainment makes me super uncomfortable.  

The symmetry/parallels or whatever with Hopper and Brenner with El. 

The Creel house. The first proper journey to the Upside Down (get them hazmat suits stat!) and their escape. Creepy, trippy, weird, and fascinating.    

Max. Lucas. Need I say more? Prolly not, but I’m gonna: I think they’ve been the MVPs so far this season. Their separate storylines have been amazing but together? My heart!!! They might be promoted to OTP. What I initially liked about these two is they were so normal and lighthearted compared to Mike/El and Jonathan/Nancy. But this storyline has been so incredibly, believably, gorgeously told with stellar performances by Sadie and Caleb. The end of Dear Billy in particular is so, so beautiful. I hoped Running Up that Hill would feature this season and to actually have it be a plot point… 🥹 I listened to my favorite cover by First Aid Kit this morning and had a good cry.   

I want to be pissed about how retcony the other numbers feel— Kali/Eight in season 2 definitely implied Brenner collected the kids from all over the world/they all had very different powers. But it’s done so well, I’m giving it a pass. I kinda dig that El is a middle child. Makes it feel different from “aha, the chosen one at last!” trope.  

Vecna is a refreshing change of pace. I actually wish he was the Mind Flayer’s boss/the ultimate big bad. I think having him once be human makes him scarier and eviler. But I dunno, maybe they ARE all one thing he created? They’re building up to Dustin being wrong about something, I think. Which brings me to—

Holy shit, One. I don’t think I need to say more. I connected certain dots separately but not all of them together, if you get what I mean. Loved it. Plus, Jamie Campbell Bower is always good value.

The Bad

I’m disappointed with El thinking she’s a monster again. I think the bullying resurfacing some repressed memories was pretty good but... the storyline feels… kinda late? Especially since it’s a season long arc. I’d have liked it better if they told her straight off she wasn’t the one behind the attack. It’d be more interesting to me if her journey was about her learning to see past her mistakes and discovering why she’s heroic.  

My boy Doc Owens not warning El that she was about to be reunited with assface.  Dude, come on. Wtf.  Redeemed himself some by chewing him out.

Will’s technically catching a break so far this season, which actually highlights how hellish his life has been. Obviously he wasn’t as close to Hopper as El was, but Hopper was also his (step)dad— Owens even acted like Hopper and Joyce were both Will’s parents in ST2– then he got dragged away from his home/friends; helplessly watched his sister suffer; his brother is becoming unrecognizable; he has a thing for his BFF, which is already complicated and painful enough without the fact that said BFF is also his sister’s boyfriend.😭 But hey, seven episodes in a row without a monster trying to eat him!  

I totally get Robin changing a tad this season from being more comfortable/less guarded because of Steve. But here and there she seemed jarringly different (like how she’s suddenly no longer capable of “playing it cool”) and a few of her comic relief lines fell flat (the compass, earthquakes, attic.).  It’s obvious she’s only here because we like her. Which brings me to…

I am starting to get nervous about how far things are starting to tilt towards fan service. Elements of it have been present since season two but alarm bells are ringing for me. I’d hate for this show to go the Glee route— pandering to (usually toxic) shippers, not wanting to change “the winning formula” which lets characters/situations get stale, etc.  Sigh. At least we’re close to the end.  

I don’t mind Jonathan and Nancy having problems, in fact, I’d probably find it ridiculous if they didn’t. But why THIS way? I loved in season 3 that they had real discussions, even about the ugly stuff. They hashed things out, opened up each other’s minds. I went from “yeah, they’re pretty cute” to “Hell, yeah, I ship it!”

It sucked to see that all go out the window. Obviously, they’re still kids, so I wasn’t expecting anything super mature. But both of them avoiding/ignoring their problems felt lazy.  At the very least, why couldn’t they have been taking a break? Which brings me to—

The Ugly  

Steve and Nance having romantic tension again. Barf. 

 I was somewhat prepared— that weirdly intimate scene in the trailer combined with the complete lack of a potential love interest for Steve among all the new characters. But still. Just… why.

I see some bearable avenues they can take with this but I don’t think it’s necessary and it makes Nancy look awful: Like a serial cheater or that she only wants what she doesn’t have and like still doesn’t grasp how shitty Jonathan’s situation is. She grew up so much, especially last season, and they’re just… pissing all over it??

It’s a little easier to swallow on Steve’s end but I felt like he also really regressed in the early episodes— still so desperate for female attention and just doing the dating equivalent of “throwing it all at the wall and see what sticks.” If they had to have him make heart eyes at Nancy again, then he should’ve still had girls treating him like a townie loser who peaked in high school.

I thought Dustin cheerleading R/S when he barely knew Robin was juvenile writing but at least Dustin was young. Robin practically encouraging Nancy to cheat? Ew. Eddie, who’s probably 20 as a third time senior, declaring what is “true love” between two perfect strangers?

Holy fuck, if it’s not intentionally paralleling Dustin being “ wrong” about Steve and Robin then it is so painfully amateurish that I do not have words. Only Murray can get a pass on that kinda thing because he’s been established as borderline clairvoyant from early on.

Also, a couple of the effects aren’t on par with most of them. One’s transformation and the demobat battle were silly looking. Normally I’m very forgiving of tv show budgets but with how great everything else looked, it was a bit jarring.

TL;DR most of it is awesome, with Max, Lucas, and Lumax being the best. But I fear  they’re relying too heavily on fan service and I’m scared it could be the show’s downfall. Also, my tolerance for bullshit love triangles was obliterated about a decade ago.

•this man gets so frustrated brushing his hair, sometimes he would just give up and walk around his trailer with the brush just there and on school mornings his hair would not be cooperating and he would hit him self in the head with the brush and go to school with his hair a mess and in an extremely bad mood. (i got this idea from someone, too scared to mention them idk why, but credits to you)

•he is one of those people to get a rubik’s cube with full confidence on solving it then end up ripping it apart and putting it back together.

•i think he would have a swearing problem. in casual conversation would just say the most aggressive curse word as if it were nothing, and wouldn’t notice. basically just swears uncontrollably.

•winks at random people for fun or after making a smart-ass comment. honestly just as sarcasm or something

•got scolded by his uncle at some point for writing a song lyric or something on his bedroom wall with a sharpie

•school lunch? never brings one and never buys one. he probably just steals bits and pieces off one of his friends trays that’s next to him.

•HAS A REALLY PRETTY SIGNATURE. LIKE HE PROBABLY PRACTICED FOR WHEN HE GETS FAMOUS ONE DAY.

• not a morning person. probably only gets up around 1:00 -2:30 on days there is no school. when there is school? most likey right when it starts or a bit after.

•you know that thing kids do when they get in trouble with their parents and they go to their room, quietly close the door and silently curse their parents out, give them the finger behind the door, all that stuff? well eddie has probably done that at least once after an argument with his uncle.

•unconditionally loves the color red.

•holes in ALL of his socks.

•steals little things. if he is at someones house and they have like a pen or something useless, common and replaceable out in the open, he will slip it into his pocket and take it.

•can he cook? absolutely not. does he try? yes. does he set the smoke detector off a billion times? most certainly does.

•he has read lord of the rings over and over and over and over. absolutely loves it.

•wears eyeliner to his shows at the hideout. he is AMAZING at eyeliner.

Hi! U might have seen me lurking but I just wanted to shoot u an ask and say, JU is one of my absolute favorite fics I've ever read for so many reasons. It's such a heartfelt and kind character study on top of just a well paced and thought out retelling of the show, Steve is flawed and sweet and funny and just Good, with such a bonkers way of thinking and it makes me love him so much more than I already do (which isn't Hard honestly haha) he also comes across autistic/adhd, something I've hc'd him being for a long time bc I'm that myself, so i see elements of that in JU. I'm also a fan of your prose, I think you have such a way with building relationships that come across as very human and soft while also having a Bite to them, like Steve and Billy, a character I've never totally liked, but he has such a voice in JU that it's like Of Course Steve can't help but try to be kind even though he's cautious, not just bc he's an empath. I can't wait to see how that relationship, as well as Dozens of other relationships progress, Steve and Robin(!!), Hopper, El (sibling dance 🕺💃), Tommy-Carol, Nancy, Jonathan, Dustin, Max, all the other kiddos (maybe Eddie too?? *wink wink*) and now that I'm thinking of it Joyce!! Listen if his new dad is Hopper, Joyce gets to be his mom by virtue of association with Hop. Another thing I wanted to say quickly was, and obviously this was intentional, but every mention, or allusion to, comparison to, just general meta about Rabbits is chefs kiss. Like the callbacks to Watership Down, It's such a good narrative tool, its always given me the chance to pause and think about the work, especially with the killing of the rabbit, which conjured thoughts to me about the loss of innocence in that moment, like is the rabbit something he's killing within himself? Or is Steve himself the rabbit? And what does it mean later that he can regulate his emotions enough to live within the rabbit, and it's babies? Besides lying to himself that he's "normal" He also has given himself (?) Room to grow? In other words, though it may be scarred, since you alluded to the dead rabbit again, Steve and his innocence, (and I'm using innocence as a way to define a lot of things here like self love and a life where he'll allow himself to grow something in the planter boxes), are allowed to take root again, since you also stated that the grass above the buried rabbit is growing green and prospering thanks to this dead rabbit, not to mention the lives those babies will now get to lead, so its like, Steve's past experiences don't have to harm him anymore, they can lead to Growth. Steve is both the rabbit, and the thing that can kill, and protect the rabbit, Run Bunny indeed Billy Hargrove. ANYWAY I hope to Heaven that any of that makes sense, thank you so much for posting Jackrabbit Underneath, it's been a real light in the darkness and I have serious writers envy, I'm wishing you well, and extending an unlimited invitation to reach out for literally anything you need in the future, yelling about Steve Harrington being one of those things of course 💖💖💖

I'm really happy you've been enjoying!!! It's so nice to hear that you enjoy the pacing and that my portrayal of Steve is coming across well! I head canon Steve as ADHD and I've tried to incorporate that into JU so I'm happy that's working. I really like the description of "soft with some Bite to them" for the relationships!! I feel like that's how I try to write Steve in general, so it makes sense that his relationships would also follow that.

Haha I am definitely now picturing Steve and El doing the sibling dance video with Kali. I wish I could shove Eddie into the main plot - he'll probably make a cameo because I love him. I actually originally thought Joyce would be in this more, but I realized talking to the mom of the guy your girlfriend left you for would probably be weird for him, so Maggie ended up taking up more of the role. But now he has the excuse of Hopper to hang around her!

I'm glad the rabbit motif is working! Steve killing the rabbit was definitely supposed to be a death of innocence moment - or at least a death of ignorance. It marks the start of him getting involved in the upside down and thus moving away from his high school persona and the (slow) break down of his denial. The return to woods emphasized both how Steve's gotten better with his powers after practicing but also, like you said, his potential for growth in the future (both in his powers and personally). He takes comfort in the (literally found) family of rabbits and protects them even if it's from himself as a sort of "future Steve goals". Meanwhile past Steve, the dead rabbit, is helping the grass grow - while he can't go back to who he was or change the experiences that hurt him, they're still important parts of his life that he can use to create his future.

Also don't worry - it definitely made sense and it was really interesting to read your thoughts! Thank you so much for reading and sending this ask <3!!!

The Other Chirpy Chips

Noijī has ADHD. Full Stop. Raian has anxiety and who the fuck knows what's up with Shikaku but all of the CCs are ND.

Does everyone agree that Raian and Shikaku are dudes or is it just me?

Shikaku is probably in his late 40s and is definitely the Dad Friend of the group. He's pretty much accepted this role as he's already only marginally along for their antics and somebody needs to keep them from accidentally killing themselves.

He's honestly such a sweet guy too. Giving Raian pep talks before shows, protecting Harmony from the paparazzi and creepy fans (in fact, that's usually what his "yearly snap" is), patching up Noijī when his boundless energy inevitably leads to him hurting himself. He says he does it because he's their friend but they all agree that the way he does it gives off such paternal energy that they jokingly refer to him as their dad.

Harmony had her own apartment in Inkopolis before she came to Splatsville, the other three live together in Shikaku's penthouse in Inkopolis.

Noijī and Harmony have been friends since they were kids, and the two met Raian in highschool. The three didn't meet Shikaku until after they already had a record deal and realized they needed a drummer.

Eddy

Eddy is also somewhere on the autism spectrum. (Granted, what Splatoon characters aren't neurodivergent?)

He and Nails also balance each other out. Eddy had a lot of issues with executive dysfunction and Nails is just the amount of motivation he needs, and Eddy returns the favor by basically being Nails' PR manager and making sure Nails doesn't wreck the place.

I imagine he curls up into his shell when he sleeps, it's probably super cozy.

Sheldon knows both Inkling and Octarian, as well as several other types of sea creature dialects. It's very helpful when he gets asked for directions.
