WAUGHHH. AGHHH. OKAY. OKAY SO. I've been watching one of my favorite content creators play through the DLC. Early on in the playthrough he was tossing around theories and said "Maybe KIERAN is Ogerpon??" and that gave me a BRILLIANT THOUGHT.

Ogerpon Kieran AU.......

I've already thought of a very long and complex backstory for this LOL but to simplify it. Before the ogre and its human companion came to Kitakami, said companion was actually living a very happy life with his child. However, they were caught up in the midst of a great war that ended up taking the child's life. The man was so overcome with grief that it summoned a great being (I'm thinking Xerneas), who blessed his dead child with new life. And that child was reborn as Ogerpon!! So kinda like how children who get lost in the woods and die are reborn as Phantump.

Fast forward to many many years later. A long chain of events leads to Carmine's grandfather's...father (so, her great-grandpa?) meeting Ogerpon and vowing to make it a new mask, a mystical and powerful mask that could grant wishes. Sadly, Carmine's great-grandpa wasn't able to complete the mask before he died. This project was eventually picked up by Carmine's father (and I have a whole other thing about him but I'm not gonna get into it right now lol). Carmine's father forms a very close bond with Ogerpon as he continues to gather materials to finish the wish mask. He expresses his desire for Ogerpon to finally be able to walk among the villagers with its name cleared, and for Ogerpon to meet his only daughter. He leaves for a journey to find the last material for the mask...and never returns 😔

Carmine's grandfather has a whole complex about the wish mask, but after seeing both his father and his son dedicate so much time and care into completing it, he takes the last material, imbued with the hopes and dreams of his family, and finally finishes the mask. When he presents it to Ogerpon, Ogerpon dons the mask and its wish is granted...it becomes human :") So it becomes Kieran, basically!! Kieran's wish was to be able to say thank you to all of the generations of mask makers that had helped him, and. To be part of their family 🥺 What he doesn't know is that his wish to be human stems from the fact that he already was human, once. But he doesn't remember his life before he was reborn as a Pokemon.

So, Carmine's grandfather happily accepts Kieran and his desire, and takes him home to live with him and Carmine. Note that Kieran is probably around 5-6 at the time, so he's BABY. And Carmine is only about a year or two older. She isn't sure what to think about suddenly getting a new brother, but she's happy to have someone to boss around lmao.

And once a year, during the festival of masks, Kieran lets his facade fall and wanders around as Ogerpon again. Just to keep in touch with his roots haha

So obviously with Kieran being Ogerpon the events of the DLC will play out differently than canon. Kieran slyly compliments the ogre in front of the player and mentions that maybe it's just misunderstood. He's been trying for a while to change the villagers' minds about what happened to him and the Loyal Three all those years ago, but it hasn't been going...too well lol. So when the player shows up, and things start to shift, Kieran gets really excited bc he realizes he finally might be able to clear his name :")

Is this AU silly and dumb as hell? Yes. Does it not really make sense with canon and is full of plot holes? Yes. Am I brainrotting over it anyway? Also yes.

So like, I watch a lot of documentaries, and one of the ones I've been chewing on recently is this one by bobbybrocoli about the lenna image , tldr there's a crop of a Playboy bunny that was used to train and test a lot of early image processing algorithms. and there's been significant push to retire the image bc a. it's old and not really useful for much of anything anymore, your program working with Lena in 2023 doesn't prove it works, it proves it turns on. and b. It's a crop of a scan of an erotic photo from a Playboy magazine. the documentary goes a into a lot more detail about it's reception and use and interviews a few folk about it's presence in the field and the culture around it.

and i was watching the documentary again while working on that last edit and finally something clicked for me.

I've never been happy with saying the issue with the sexualization of women in comics was an issue because of the sexualization on its own. Sexuality and the expression of it is normal and benign. the lenna image isn't anything special. It's a nice 512px picture of a pretty lady in a fun hat, you probably wouldn't guess it's origins from looking at it.

The problem is that it's not Just one image, and it's not Just a tendency to endulge in a little extra sex appeal in the occasional comic. to use an analogy put forward by one of the programmers interviewed; They're both individual bricks in much larger walls.

The Lenna image wouldn't be an issue if there wasn't massive issues with sex based discrimination in programming.

The sexualization wouldn't be an issue if the women on the page were given the same agency and value in the stories as the men, if the women behind the scenes were paid the same as the men and hired to work the same roles, if comic fan spaces weren't often outright hostile to women and girls just trying to enjoy the same fun as the boys.

the sexualization is just one brick in the wall and it also happens to be the easiest to point at and talk about. It's visual. You can draw literal red lines around it. all the other bricks are much larger culture issues that can't be pinned on single artists. They don't have faces and names you cane be mad at on the internet. Then the more you look the easier it is to see these two bricks, the Lenna image and the sexualization in comics, are part of the same massive wall.

Here we go again. The criticism of SH’s Sassanach Gin tour is as expected. Not everyone has to like what he does. That’s fair. But that continuing narrative that he takes advantage of his fans? Sorry, but that’s a hard no for me.

Personally I don’t know how the actual fuck he does it. Ten years in and he is still gracious and accommodating to all his fans, even those that cross every line. How is unsolicited groping ever acceptable? I think he is far too affable. But the he’s taking advantage of his fans continues. If all he wanted to do was was an Outlander pump and dump cash grab, not only is he doing it all wrong, he’s working far to hard. Rather than invest his own money and produce a craft product, he could have purchased a house brand equivalent of whisky and gin, and concentrate on labels. Imagine limited edition pumpkin spice, thanksgiving, Christmas, new year’s, Valentine’s Day, shirtless-you get the idea- SH limited edition bottles. I think he’s looking beyond that and trying to build a brand.

There’s also been a lot written about the individual appearances and signings. I would never camp out at midnight to get a place in line, but a 6-8 hour wait? There are a small group of gals that I follow and Dm with, that I would gladly grab a lawn chair and sunscreen and happily take my place in line with. Not sure if they would be as keen, but @khccbc1745, @kiaora45, @harriethattie, @caldineens, @collectido, @ maryofboston, @ Stargazer74 , @andorra97 and many more, who take the time to not only comment, but call me out when I get things wrong(which I have been known to do) you know who you are- I’d wait in line, with any of these women, in a heartbeat. Even though we range in age-40-80- I don’t think we would have a single second of silence. With a group, you take turns getting coffee, snacks, lunch…quick SH selfie, hotel nap, dinner and drinks. I think that’s the part people don’t get when they see the long lines. It’s not for everyone, but it’s also for most a once in a lifetime thing. Go ahead and laugh, a couple of years ago I was the first to make fun of people like me, but scrolling through the fandom has become one of my favourite things to do, and something I don’t have to share with other family and friends that will never understand the joy of all things Outlander and SH😊. The other thing that most people don’t get is that, and I think I can speak not only for myself but the other amazing women in the fandom, we really don’t take each other that seriously. This is fun, and for me definitely a guilty pleasure bc🥸I’m so happy that I have these like minded people I can commiserate with because I just watched the last mid season episode of season 7. How dare they say…to be continued next year. Next year? Ffs.

On a final note, a fun fact. If we didn’t have tickets for tennis, I definitely would have gone to the Scottish festival in Fergus Ontario to see our very own hometown boy CV, and RR and for once be able to post some original pics. Not far from home, I’ve been to the festival in the past- definitely have Scots in the family tree including a competitive bagpiper- and its always fun. I’ve really enjoyed CV as WR in the first part of season 7 and really looking forward to watching his story unfold. But having to wait until next year to watch the second half of season 7, and who knows how long before season 8 airs. Don’t even get me started about DG, and the timeline for the release of book 10. Seriously considering a class action lawsuit for the cruel and unusual punishment inflicted by DG when she said Jamie’s ghost story would be revealed in the last page of book 10. Why DG? Why? On the other hand, I can take my time scrolling, commenting and posting about season 7. If I was a patient person, which I’m not. So for now I’ll make due with the ongoing commentary of how people around the world refer to the “pineapple swim trunks” SH sports in an upcoming episode of MIK 2. Something budgies….🦜🏊‍♂️🩲…

Overall:

A fun show with a fun concept and great acting + romance. It was funny and delightful most of the time, there was a kind of killer/suspense aspect but that wasn't really ever the Focus, Sunjae being killed was the focus; similarly, they didn't thoroughly explain the time travel because the mechanics wasn't the focus, Sol going back was the focus.

I liked Sunjae and Sol together and it was fun seeing how Sunjae was slightly different in the different timelines lol I liked seeing the couple on high school, college, as idol!Sunjae and actor!Sunjae. It did feel a bit like consistency was lost in their relationship but that was the point i guess. It was a very romantic concept, the way they were falling in love in every timeline.

Everything about it was good and I was engaged, I just don’t think I’d think about it much though. Kinda reminds me of When I Fly Towards You c-drama in that way; a cute youthful romance drama but I'm not hung up on it. At least it kept me company during my commute of the first week at my new internship.

-> you know i gotta say wiwi. i have to. that character was Made For Me i swear to GOD . genuinely i cannot think about prime defenders season 2 episode 39 without feeling physically sick bc i love it so much. its the only one i havent relistened to since i heard it the first time. i KNOW its gonna make me cry again so i genuienly have not touched it even though theres things in there i need to hear again for character research. his arc is so like. narratively satisfying in a way that hits me so fucking deep to my core in an extremely personal way. and like. there were definitely some Decisions that i was REALLY ANNOYING about hating when they were brought up because im used to media with bad storytelling/creators that do not care about their characters but. looking back on it i would not change a single thing about it. i love you wiwi so much.

-> FOR SUCK.... its not over yet. so i cannot definitively say. campaign finale comes out tomorrow so my answer may change depending on that but for right now i think i gotta say arthur. i joke a lot about hating arthur for no real reason in particular but. man his story is just REALLY good. not going 2 give you suck spoilers (hehe) but i also really like how shilo has grown through the campaign. hes my little guy :]

I think he really lies shitty syfy channel type horror movies that are so stupidly bad. and also plays a lot of video games but again i think thats mostly canon already. i think tide listens to dad rock but also like. ocean man by ween. you already know about my william and ashe being each others emotional support at concerts. i think william and ashe should hang out and do emo kid things more. i also have a lot of feelings about ashe and coping with the crippling loneliness of basically growing up alone and how the pd becoming like INSTANT best friends was so much for him in sooo many ways. you already know how i feel about mark i am in the middle of dissecting him like im in a high school biology class as we speak. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i know im gonna think of something really good after i hit the post button so stay tuned

— usagis jealousy during bmc, and if it really is just that? a meta

(read more bc i anticipate this getting very long)

before we talk about bmc lets set the stage a bit: usagi has just defeated the dark kingdom no more than a week ago (its unclear how much time passes btwn the two arcs but i can’t imagine its longer than a week, or even a couple days, as we see usamamo exchange their keepsakes at the end of act 14, something they promised they’d do the next time they saw each other during act 8, which means that this must be the first time theyve seen each other since defeating the dark kingdom, which again, i cant imagine took longer than a couple days) which means she has just experienced: watching her boyfriend die in front of her, being overloaded with a host of tragic memories from her past life (one of them including watching her boyfriend die and killing herself), her boyfriend getting brainwashed, having to kill her boyfriend because there was no getting through to him, killing herself due to the aforementioned trauma, and finally finding out her friends died— sacrificing themselves for her to bring her back. so thats all Crazy we can agree that is crazy for a 14 year old girl to go through? right? okay? good.

now that we’ve agreed on that can you imagine a little girl falling out of a large portal in the sky then threatening you with a GUN (fake sure but she didnt know that originally) and demanding you hand over the overpowered magical artifact you JUST endured all that trauma trying to protect? and then that same girl brainwashes your family? obviously usagi isnt going to trust chibiusa right away. i mean look at what she’s working with, and then when she tries to bring up these concerns no one believes her. i mean sure WE as the audience know chibiusa isnt a threat, and the others think she isnt because they cant see a little girl as particularly threatening but when you look at things from usagis perspective, then OBVIOUSLY she’d be suspicious— i mean she repeatedly refuses to answer any sort of questions (obviously this is not chibiusas fault, shes a scared child and the questioning terrifies her further, but again, think about this from usagis perspective). and again id like to reiterate that all of this is directly after the dark kingdom, usagi hasn’t had any time to heal from those fresh fresh emotional scars Of Course she’s a bit irrational.

now, to the topic at hand, was usagis jealousy really just that? regular jealousy at seeing mamoru spending time with someone who isnt her (even if the person in question was a small child that logically posed no threat to her relationship)?

obviously i dont think so, but let me prove to you its not just simple irrational jealousy but also usagis ptsd and specifically her abandonment issues that are what cause her to react in the way she does.

again, id like to remind the jury of the shit usagi has just gone through and how that all has caused usagi to develop some very serious abandonment issues. we see usagis worst fear(s) represented in nightmare sequences a handful of times throughout the series. exactly twice actually, once in infinity and once in dream and each have the shared theme of her loved ones leaving her in some way. in infinity they turn against her and berate her before ultimately dying, and in dream they’re simply dead. again both times it is very clear that the root of what she fears is abandonment.

these abandonment issues however, first begin to present themselves in arc 2. we even get a nightmare sequence in arc 2 similar to those of arcs 3&4. most interpret this as usagi just being jealous usagi. however really look at it, its not that she’s just afraid of mamoru being taken away by chibiusa, she’s afraid of them both abandoning her. look at what she says “wait! where are you going? dont leave me behind!” (or “wait! where are you going? dont leave me here!” in the eternal edition, i prefer the crystal translation simply because it makes it more explicit her issue is them leaving her alone) if it truly truly was an issue of jealousy why would she be afraid of them both leaving her behind? why say something like that? wouldnt it make more sense to say something like…. i dunno “chibiusa? dont take him from me!” instead?

once again, everything she goes through in arc 1 is a big contributor in this, however recall arc 2 begins with the senshi being picked off one-by-one (all except minako), and usagi can do nothing but watch and it eats her up inside. she quite literally begins to lose everyone dear to her all over again even while the last time is still so fresh in her mind.

and during most of this what does chibiusa do? she stays secretive, doesnt give usagi any information even when usagi tells her she cant trust her if she doesnt. (again i wanna reiterate that this is no fault of chibiusas however its not usagis fault either) so of course usagi begins to register chibiusa as a threat, and again with the information she has + her inarguable connection to the black moon clan this isnt a logical leap in the slightest.

thus when mamoru begins to spend more time with chibiusa instead of her it causes two things to happen. a) usagi is left without the emotional support she desperately needs in all of this (through no fault of mamoru, he completely misreads what usagi needs in this particular situation, he thinks that by helping with chibiusa it’ll ease her stress to have one less thing off her plate, however of course we know this does the opposite) and b) she begins to register chibiusa as a genuine threat to mamorus safety. usagis terrified of losing him all over again when she just got him back. look at this scene, i mean really truly look at it. look at what usagis saying, this doesnt sound like the ramblings of a jealous girlfriend it sounds like someone who’s terrified of losing their most important person all over again. “stay here with me. never go away. ill do everything i can to protect you…” (or “…i wanna be with you. dont go away. ill protect you with everything i have” in crystal, here i prefer the eternal edition again bc i think it more explicitly defines usagis problem) these lines just don’t make sense under the simple jealousy interpretation, what does protecting him have anything to do with envy at the time hes spending with chibiusa and not with her? nothing. shes not upset at that, she puts emphasis on protecting him because thats the true root of the problem, shes afraid of losing him again to yet another supernatural threat after the crystal.

and to close out id like to show everyone the viz dub version of this scene because i think it sums up my points incredibly well, as well as making it abundantly clear what the root of usagis problems Really are, specifically through the inclusion of the line “i wont lose you again”

I liked only friends and most of the characters but I wouldn't watch it again which is disappointing because I was expecting it to be my show of the year. The way people talk about jojo as a writer I had high expectations. I get gmmtv wants to go bigger each year with the releases but I wish they would write out their shows before showcasing them. I genuinely think a lot of what ruined only friends was how hyped it was from the beginning, because it seems like the writers went into the writers room wanting to live up to the mess people were expecting and so they threw everything in there. And I also really hate how jojo and vivienneacting (one of the other writers' twitter handle, idk his name) were constantly on twitter explaining character motivations or talking about what went into a scene and why, or editing the show in real time (to cut scenes out) based on viewer feedback. I feel like negatively impacted the viewing experience and the weekly discourse around the show. It wasn't just people watching the show and forming opinions from what was onscreen, it was people watching the show and using what they read on twitter and in interviews to form opinions about the characters and where the show was going

yeah it was also one of the shows I was the most hyped for this year, but honestly practically all of them have let me down... I agree that the shows changing so much from the mock trailer to the final product bc they're not fully ready when the mock trailer is launched usually leads to some disappointment, though some shows end up way better than their original mock trailer as well. also, if a show needs to have its characters' actions & motivations explained at every step, it's not a good show. a piece of media should be able to stand on its own without any context of why it was created or what it wants to say. of course, it's always better to have more context but it should be a bonus, not a requirement to enjoy the show. and editing the eps according to what fans think is truly terrible as well, fans shouldn't dictate a show but its creators should.

hi anon! i wish i could but unfortunately this wasn't the case of me just cutting out a bit and moving it to "deleted scenes" folder, this was a thorough re-edit, meaning i had to change multiple parts, multiple sentences or just a few words there and there... basically a lot of small changes that aren't as easy to save as a whole scene getting cut . the best i can do is post some excerpts that are from the pre-final edit version of the chapter which is after some editing already :( sorry if there's errors or even editing comments from me to me HEHE i tried to remove all of them

Butcher put out another cigarette in his old drink and patted Homelander’s knee then his own. 

"C’mere." 

"No." A whine. 

"Come sit on my lap." 

"Sssicko." 

Butcher grabbed his arm and pulled him with force. Another hand on his hip, the cheap costume rustled underneath his grip. Homelander made another undignified noise but he was so pliable, it felt like moving a big pillow on top of him. He was straddling his thighs, hands hanging loose from his sides, far away from Butcher. His eyes were closed as if he couldn’t stand to look at what was happening now.

"You’re ssso sick." Homelander protested but he could only sway back and forth.

"What did you say to her?" Butcher asked, looking up into his face. His heart was beating fast now. The main event. 

"Who…" 

"Becca."

"Oh Jesus…" Not this again, said Homelander’s tone. He took a deep breath. "Just do it…" 

"Do what." 

"I dunno, whatever it is you’re going to…." The colorful mess in his lap was slightly swaying back and forth, unable to find balance. Then all of a sudden, he tried to get away but Butcher grabbed him by his hip again, forcing him down. A little gasp: "You’re sick. Sssick." 

"Are you scared?" Butcher asked through his clenched teeth. 

Homelander shook his head but something wet clung to his lashes anyway. 

"I’m not gonna hurt ya." Butcher’s hands moved from the hips to his thighs. A strangled keen from Homelander. "I just want you to feel what she felt." 

He shifted his palms further in, moving to the inner side of the splayed, costumed thighs. Homelander tensed up, as much as he could while pumped full of booze. Only one of his eyes was open, peeking at him underneath clumped lashes. He was breathing fast. Butcher huffed out a hot breath of his own that couldn't stay in his lungs anymore. Homelander flinched as if the sound itself was enough to send him into a panic. The palms on his thighs moved up and down, going deeper, further up, with each shifting movement. Butcher absent-mindedly noted that the hands pressing into the cheap fabric didn't even feel like his anymore. The swaying man on his lap was still now, leaning back unnaturally. He was still watching him with just one eye, the other one blind to everything that was happening.

"What are you thinking about?" Butcher asked, no tone, no inclination to his voice. Just a neutral command. 

"Wish I could… choke the life out of you." Homelander confessed.

Butcher kept his hands where they were, his fingertips pressed into the spot where the thighs met the pelvis. He wasn’t sure if Homelander could even feel his touch through the foamy muscle padding, but judging by how frozen he still was, he could feel it. Every second of it. 

"Okay." Butcher canted his head. "Go ahead. Give it a try."

Homelander didn’t move but Butcher heard him inhale. 

"I mean it. Do it."

Suddenly, a pair of clammy hands was closing on his throat. A familiar Homelander snarl rang out above his head. The grasp on his neck didn’t obstruct his breathing in any way, it was struggling to even fully squeeze at him. All it did was make him laugh in a slightly strained way. HLs hands cant even fully close around his throat

"C’mon, put your back into it." He groaned out.

Homelander sunk his fingertips as deep as he could, putting on claw-like pressure. That, he could almost feel. 

"There we go, good lad." Butcher grunted and smiled at him.

"Want to kill you so bad." Homelander whined out, his breathing devolving into an open-mouthed panting. "So, so, so bad." 

"You can’t. Not anymore." Billy laughed. His hands moved from Homelander’s thighs to the wrists. He could feel zip-tie scars underneath his palms and he swiped over them with pride. 

"So bad…" Homelander’s grip was waning, there was no strength left in his drunk arms. He kept slurring words out, just one eye open, his pupil completely blown out: "Kill you so fuckin’ bad… rip your head off… then crush… it."

Butcher grinned, wild-eyed. He was untouchable and the scared little cunt in his lap couldn’t even do anything to fight back.

A hiccup interrupted them and just like that Homelander's entire body wobbled and he collapsed to the side like a felled tree, letting go of Butcher’s throat. 

"Fuck…" He complained. 

Butcher shoved the limp legs off his lap and got up from the couch. Homelander’s knees were on the floor now and he stepped away from him like he was on fire. Homelander was face down on the green fabric, looking like a doll abandoned mid-play, its limbs bent at weird angles.

"You can’t do anything anymore, cunt." Butcher fumbled for his cigarettes, basically smashing one of them into his mouth and lighting it up. He had to do something with his hands, his limbs were like a live wire now. One puff, two puffs. Fuck.

there was more stuff that i removed... there was actual groping i cut out, i think the choking scene had HL moving closer to Butcher, huffing and puffing at each other and then during the bathroom moment Butcher had more sexually charged revelations about how vulnerable and utterly his HL is and how THAT was making him even more into everything that was happening but i chose to replace all of that with Guilt.

In my fic I originally had Adora talking to some kind of therapist but I wasn't sure they existed on Etheria, and last week I edited that bit so Adora is talking to these two (which makes the conversation more fun AND easier to write anyway)

Perfuma: "Scorpia. You should do things not because you're good at them, but because they make you happy." THAT IS ONE OF MY LIFE PHILOSOPHIES thank you Perfuma you're 100% correct and I tell people this ALL THE TIME

Save Him - Blood Bound

spoilers for the kill your lover dark urge scene.

i had so much fun writing this, i learned a lot from this session about Floring as a character outside of the dialogue options of the game. this is mostly un-edited and in a different writing style than my other work bc i had originally written it for myself. i did just copy some of the game text, again this was gonna be a private work, but i had the courage to share something so here i am

Another sleepless night haunted Florin, but this one was different. Instead of the usual restlessness, this one was full of pain and aching. His stomach churned, the bile held within unsettled, and with each passing moment, the feeling worsened. After one particularly violent surge, Rin got up, attention drawn to his companions sleeping soundly. His head throbbed as he craved to reduce them all to sinew and viscera. Before he could stop himself Florin found himself outside of Astarion’s tent, faced with his butler. 

SF: He is so afraid. So, so afraid. Of everyone, besides you, who he ought to fear most. You could do so much better, Milord. 

F: What in the Hells do you want? I don’t exactly remember asking for you or your input.

SF: I am here to watch your moment of triumph, my loathly Master. Your clever mind is penning tragedy as we speak. Your repressed Urge yearns to kill. And kill you will. Tonight, the moment you close your eyes, your favorite person will be brutalized. 

F: I didn’t touch Isobel, I have more self-control than you give me credit for. I won’t be repeating the bard.

SF: It is precisely because you didn’t touch her, that you are insatiable. Your Dark Urge will have death, one way or another. Tonight. You like him for more than his looks, but he will never believe that. Why not make him a pretty corpse?

The thought made Florin’s hair stand on end; from excitement or fear, he didn’t know.

F: He’s not dying. I haven’t-...

He cut himself off, not yet ready to cross into such unfamiliar territory. Unfortunately for him, Sceleritas knew his unspoken words and was more than happy to combat any merciful thoughts Florin was having.

SF: Why not whisper it while you twist the knife? Or have a love confession be the final words between you? It is my duty to ensure you are making the right decisions, Master. There was much….. Disappointment at your reluctance to kill the little Moonmaiden. You could kill this one deliberately. I’m sure it will be considered a great show of goodwill. The tithe could still be yours. 

F: It wasn’t reluctance, I would have loved to hang her with her intestines, but it was smarter for her to live. I aim to end her when she’s outlived her usefulness.

SF: I do sincerely apologize, Master, that your Urge does not use the same calculations that you do. The wheels have already been set in motion, there will be blood on your monstrous hands. Good night, sweet Lord.

With Sceleritas vanishing into a flow of red, Florin was alone with his thoughts, and his Urge. For a few moments he watched Astarion rest blissfully without a fear in the world. It was the most at ease he’d ever seen the elf, he didn’t want to ruin it, but his Urge said otherwise. While he still had some common sense Florin reached to wake the vampire, wanting to save him from himself, but his hand wavered; longing to wrap around his throat, or better yet claw it to shreds. Fighting his Urge only brought Florin pain, head pulsing as red seeped into his vision.

F: Astarion… Star.

Seeing the elves' eyes gave Florin just a bit more stability.

A: Well, hello. Looking for a cuddle? 

Astarion’s almost hopeful smile was quickly replaced by a look of concern.

A: Although you don’t look entirely… yourself. What’s going on in that head of yours? 

Something in Florin’s chest curled tight, he didn’t like this. It wasn’t fair. He hated being laid bare before Astarion, being so thoroughly known at just a glance, and yet he found comfort in it… 

F: Now isn’t the time. I need to protect you.

A: Alright, talk quickly then.

F: There’s… Fuck..

As he begins to speak Florin’s head swims with a pounding headache, fatigue filling his body. 

F: I wasn’t in control when I killed Alfira, and it’s going to happen again. Tonight I’m going to kill the person I care about most: you. Unless you can stop me. 

A: How flattering. And disturbing. 

Despite his nonchalance Astarion sat up a bit straighter, clearly taking the words to heart.

A: You could have talked to me before things got murderously bad, you know. We are technically in this together. 

There it was again, that tightness in his chest that only the elf could evoke. 

F: Speaking, I’m good at. With honesty is where it gets complicated…

Words trailing off shadows crept into Florin’s vision, pulling him under faster than he could realize. 

When viridian eyes open again, they don’t belong to Florin. He isn’t himself, he has no control here, tied up beneath the watchful eye Astarion. 

A: This thing won’t have you. It won’t win.

As he spoke the elf leaned ever so slightly closer, clouding the Urge’s thoughts with blood as it tried to bite him.

A: Ah ah ah. We ask before we bite. You’re cute, you know. If you didn’t want me dead, we might’ve been friends. Well, that and the fact that you’re taking control of my dearest deadly flower.

Florin continued to squirm, wrist raw and bloody as his Urge fought against his bindings. 

A: Easy now, darling. You’ve got this. And I’ve got you.

Growl escaping, the Urge spoke its mind freely.

F: Your blood will clot for me like liquid rubies.

A: A little too late, but good effort. Now just relax, dawn will be here soon. 

The night passes painfully, Florin feverishly trying to break free and end his torment. But in the end Astarion remained unharmed, no blood to be shed in camp. 

As the sun slowly started to rear its head, Florin was back in his own mind. Heaving himself into an upright position he shook his head, trying to get rid of the shadows at the edges of his vision and the nausea rising in his throat.

A: Welcome back. 

Once cut free Florin sat across from the vampire, mindful not to pay attention to his wounded wrists lest he trigger another bloodlust.

A: I felt for the bard, seeing you like that. Poor Alfira never stood a chance, did she? 

F: No… I always felt there was a reason I stayed away from my blades when I could. Now I know why.

A: And why is that, exactly?

F: All I know is that I have this Dark Urge that requires me to kill, and a butler who encourages it. Not that I need much encouragement. I’m fine killing, I enjoy it, what I don’t enjoy is that it tries to dictate who I kill and when. I didn’t know until after I killed Alfira. The following night he arrived to congratulate me.

A: Your butler.

F: Sceleratas Fel. He said he’d been waiting for my return, found me from the smell of a particularly vicious killing. When we arrived in the shadowlands he came back, instructing me to kill someone named Isobel and I’d be rewarded. I agreed, thinking it’d be easy and of no consequence. When I realized killing her would be more trouble than it was worth, I put the thought aside. Burying the temptation every time we spoke with her. I hadn’t completely given up the idea though, deciding I’d kill her when she wasn’t as useful.

A: Let me guess, neither your Urge nor your butler cared much for that idea.

F: No… At first I didn’t mind the Urge, now… I’m not so sure. 

Looking away from Astarion Florin admitted the last part, unsure how he felt speaking it to himself let alone the man he’d reluctantly come to care for.

A: You’re not alone in this, you know.

Hearing that got the tieflings attention. He looked back to the vampire, surprised when he didn't see any of the pity he was expecting.

A: None of us are. We can even compare notes if you like.

Florin scoffed, half thinking he’d wake up from this cruel dream soon.

F: If your next words are “it’s alright”, I might reconsider keeping you alive.

A: They aren’t. You tried to kill me, of course it’s not alright. But nothing is ruined either. After all, what’s a little attempted murder between friends? Look at Wyll and Karlach, best of buds now. 

Rin couldn’t help but chuckle.

A: But whatever this is, you will get through it. And I’ll be here to make sure you do.

The honesty in his eyes had the warmth returning to Florin’s chest, this time without the lurking thought of him bathed in his own blood. Rin almost enjoyed it, if only it had been a little more familiar.

A: Anyway, it’s a brand-new day. I’m sure we’ll find lots of people for you to kill.

F: I can’t wait.

A: The murders can, however. Until you’ve gotten at least some rest.

F: I-

A: As much as I’d hate to tie you up again so soon, I will if I have to.

After a short staring contest, Florin realized Astarion wasn’t backing down. With a sigh he gave in.

A: See, that wasn’t that hard. If it’s any consolation, the offer for the cuddle still stands.

Currently reading: Between books as on a break from Inheritance (Christopher Paolini) again it's just sooooo long (i'm about half way so page 400 ish???). Anyway, about to pick up Everybody Hertz that @katblu42 recommended me ages ago because I finally snagged it from the library :)

Currently watching: I'm midway through the original Captain Scarlet and also The Queen's Gambit and enjoying them both. I'm not much of a binger and TV isn't my first hobby so I'll get through them slowly <3 I will be dropping everything to watch Heartstopper with @echoofheartbeats when season 2 comes out and I need to watch the next season of Shadow and Bone bc the gifs of Kaz and Inej are wrecking me <3

Currently consuming: I had ice-cream when I started writing this post but I put it away bc sore throat :(
