Personal Reflection

Writing this poem taught me how much I love expressing my emotions. When I feel free and able to do so, communication comes easily. My favorite part of this process was rediscovering little gems from myself, like finding self-love notes. In a way, I'm also manifesting my kindred spirit through these words.

It’s supposed to show how chaotic my mind works and how I struggle to write my ideas as they come. The edited version shows me going back to finish the idea. I love that it captures the essence of editing in writing. You can write something and always be able to edit it, and it’ll keep changing. "I'd love to hear from you!

In the writing course I'm taking, I must take a month-long break between the first draft and the second. During that month, I'm supposed to read as much as I can and take notes, erasing my own book from my mind. The goal is to read so much that I forget my voice, allowing me to have fresh eyes for editing. This week, I'll be reading Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín, an Irish author, and Strange Pilgrims by Gabriel García Márquez.

I'm not a fast reader, and as I've mentioned before, I have never read a book faster than it was written. Reading multiple books at a time helps, but I truly think I won't have enough distraction to reset myself enough. I can't read fast and probably only finish one new book this month. It is what it is. Thankfully and tragically, this is not a graded course, so I'm not going to fail any tests but my own—editing my book with fresh eyes.

I recently posted this image on my stories asking if my followers believe that this image was taken in one shot or it was a sky blended image. The response was very mixed and almost 50/50, it was on purpose cause the image is a bit tricky, sea and sky with same tones isn’t that common and also a glimpse of the sun touching parts of the clouds. . There’s a controversy happening in some posts on Twitter about an image being too much manipulated and that turn into a “fake” photo. The most common comment related to that is “I prefer the raw”. Well, if you swipe left on this post you’ll see my raw file of this image and it looks pretty damn normal tbh. . Let’s discuss this controversy a bit. Let’s say you got a client looking to buy some prints for their house, or a company looking for stock image, or a wedding event, etc. In any case, do you think your raw files will satisfy your client? I’m 100% sure everyone looking for good photos will pay more for a well finish photo and not a raw image that looks boring. . Don’t be that person who don’t want to improve or learn something new. If you’re a photographer or a hobbyist looking for a next level in your career, pay attention to details that really maximise your final product. For those who are not a photographer, even better, don’t get stuck with your mobile photography, there are tons of ways to improve your photos and help you to build your brand and stand out. . I have been writing a book for the last year called Bleeding Butterflies. For the first few months, I wrote only in my spare time, taking forever to write 10,000 words. During that time, I took a trip to location, but mostly from October 2023 to March 2024, I was living my life as usual and taking notes.

Then I committed. For me, commitment needs something to lose, specifically money. So I spent 2,000 USD on an online coaching plan called The Novelry, and I spent the rest of the year until yesterday writing the next 50,000 words.

My day looked like this: waking up at 6:30 AM, training for an hour, having breakfast and a shower, then one hour of writing (I was strict about the length—just one hour, but I missed some days, taking four months instead of three to finish). After that, I worked an eight-hour job, attended The Novelry coaching sessions or workshops during lunch hour, kept working, and then read the book that is part of the writing plan.

I've never been a morning person, and my ADHD makes it hard. Emotional dysregulation was a big issue during this time, and maladaptive daydreaming was all over the place, but I kept my dopamine levels down. No TikTok, no Tumblr, no YouTube, no Instagram. I ate bland meals of raw oats and white rice with chicken—no spices, the only dopamine I allowed was music and writing. I talked with people at work, but I was mediocre at best in everything that wasn't writing for the last few months. I cut contact with most of my friends—all of them new, of course—but I'm not going to lie; I lost friends in the process.

It has been a weird experience because I'm truly exhausted and drained. My eye contact went from optimal to impossible, and sometimes I feel like the main character of the book lives and makes decisions for me as if I adopted that personality. Sometimes I'm triggered because I write a triggering scene, cry in the morning, and spend the whole day super dysregulated without figuring out why.

But also, I'm so excited and so happy. I feel accomplished, and I feel like I can die in peace because I put something, even if not edited, into the world. I have to spend a month without writing the book before editing a second draft, to let it marinate, but I'm so looking forward to the rewrite. I think now that I just finished telling the story, I can finally write it right.

Just on the last page, I figured out what it was about. Most of the time, I felt like I was rambling about my interests using metaphors. But now, I'm sure if I move everything a few centimetres to the left, it's going to be perfect.
