(~60k) this was THE quintessential kanthony modern AU in 2022. took a far fetched premise and somehow made it soooo good. and hot. and cute. kates an artist who sees a picture of anthony on tinder and thinks he looks obnoxious (lol) but screenshots the photo so she can use it for sketching practice. and then she see him and his grown ass on a date with her BABY sister. and shes like well i was right about him. and lets him know to his face how she feels (LOL). its wild. it slays. read it. theres an explicit follow up to it which also slays

three cities and we never lived here by ramarro. (~25k, ~40k) very different modern au where kate and anthony meet on vacation and are very casual with them both not looking for anything (genuinely for once lol) and then seeing each other multiple times over 2-3 years in different cities and still keeping it casual. but slowly slowly slowlyyyy it doesnt feel as casual as it used to. theres 2 fics in this. the first is kates pov. the second is anthony. both very good.

(~57k) this may not be for everyone but kanthony season came out around the same time as the batman (2022) and as someone who was crazy insane about both. this was the MOMENT for me in spring 2022. its a crime mafia type au where kates character is inspired by selina kyle and the pebble lounge where she worked in the batman movie. and well. if youre about that specific combo check it out. if you arent i wouldnt recommend this lmao. its not a batman au

(multiple. ~25k) like prev this entire series gets kind of dark bc it really delves into the pressure of the world its set in. on TOP of the issues kate and anthony already have. i LOVED it. BUT also i am an ANGST and crazy, complicated characters STAN. which may not be the case for everyone.. but again very GORGEOUS to ME <3 and hot. LOL

A list of what I believe are the main symbolic elements of Bridgerton S3

(I’ll try to keep descriptions as brief as possible)

1. Lighting. The first and last episode titles are “Out of the Shadows” and “Into the Light”. So, all lighting, particularly on Pen, will be very significant. Throughout seasons 1 and 2, she is often cast in shadow, while the Bridgertons shine in the light. In season 3, we’ll see more direct light on her.

2. Mirrors. Yes, I know, but it’s not just about sexy times. Mirrors have been used to tell us about Pen’s secret identity, LW. Her mirror self is the true, brave, witty, brilliant self that she keeps hidden. While you’ll often see the other ladies of Bridgerton checking themselves out in mirrors (in addition to the Featheringtons, I’ve also seen Daphne, Kate, Edwina, and Violet looking into mirrors), you’ll never catch Penelope doing so. That’s the deeper significance of the mirror sex scene- Colin encourages her to confront that self.

3. Greece. This is Colin’s big symbolic element. Greek mythology will be all over the costume and production design. Obviously, we know on a base level that he loves Greece. On a deeper level, Grecian symbols will be used to reference Ancient Greek stories and mythology that will add layers of depth to the love story. Ex) Homer’s The Odyssey is about a man who must journey throughout and around Greece in order to get back to his wife, Penelope. During his journey, Penelope has to fend off a bunch of suitors who are trying to get with her. Even though she thinks Odysseus is dead, she still loves him.

4. Yellow/Blue/Green. I mean, c’mon.

5. Swans. The Bridgertons are mute swans (the regular kind). Pen is a black swan.

Sir, that is a swan.

6. Flowers. Pen is a wallflower. And actually, the meaning of flowers have always been directly explained to us (lilacs, “symbolic of first love”, tulips “they symbolize passion”). Maybe we’ll get another quote about the symbolism of flowers in season 3?

7. Writing/letters/quills/journals. A Polin love language. 🪶💌📔 Literally though, when Pen first asks anyone about sex (yeah, it was Marina, awkward, I know but 🤷), she’s made to equate it with letters.

That’s all I got for now I think.

If you’re just watching Bridgerton because it’s pretty and cute and sexy, totally fine. Watch it however you want to watch it. If you want to go further, really feel things, maybe get a greater sense of catharsis, or at least get more of the ‘oh, damn!’ factor out of it, pay attention to the above elements. They will be shown and not told. If you are stuggling to understand what the symbols mean, hmu. I’m happy to help. I’ve only been on Bridgerton tumblr for a week and a half, but I can say I’ve already seen great analyses from @bingiessm @ktbeets & @sea-owl .

After being shot protecting Kate does Anthony struggle with Kate going about day to day life out in the world? Especially since he can’t protect her anymore.

Oh 100%.

Kate would rather not think about it, honestly. Because this was just one instance. Someone who’d been stalking her for a while apparently and it got too close this time. But she’s not naive. She knows there’s probably other people. But if she lets herself think about that she’d waste her whole life. She’d be too scared to do anything. So yeah, she goes shopping with her boyfriend and reads stories at children’s hospitals and goes to charity events and plans parties because what else is she going to do?

On the other hand, Anthony can’t tune it out. It used to be his entire job to protect Kate. He attended so many briefings about threats that had been made against her and her family, he was hyper vigilant and it’s hard to turn that off. It got worse when he knew he loved her. So much worse. And it’s worse again now knowing that he has to rely on other people to protect her.

It’s terrifying for him at first. Even when she goes out for a run in the afternoon. He used to be the person running beside her and he’s not.

“Maybe I could go with you.”

Kate raised her eyebrows, kissing his forehead as she put her headphones on, “You said your arm was sore from PT.”

Anthony winced, “Not um… It’s not that bad.” He changed tactics, “Or maybe you could stay here and we could ah… do another kind of workout.”

Kate chuckled, “Cute. Keep that energy for when I get back.”

He hated it. Waiting for her to get back, worrying about her. It wasn’t;t that he didn’t trust her new protection officer. Ronald was good at his job, tough, methodical. He just hated not knowing where she was, if she was alright.

“Can I come with you?”

Kate chuckled, smoothing her fingers through Anthony’s hair, “To my meeting with Appa? No. State secrets I’m afraid. But you can come to the palace, have tea with Mumma Mary.”

Anthony nodded stiffly, hauling himself off the sofa. “Sure. I love tea.”

Kate froze while picking up her bag, her eyes narrowing. “No you don’t.”

Anthony scoffed, “I love tea, I’m a big tea fan. Well, we’ll see you later, Edwina.”

“I’m not entering into whatever this little… weird thing going on here.” Edwina hummed. “But I don’t think enjoying a strawberry green tea lemonade is the same as liking tea.”

Kate clicked her fingers, “Thank you, Eddie.”

Anthony turned towards Edwina. “Wow. Wow. When I haven’t said anything about he fact that you’re knitting a sweater for the dog of the woman you’re in love with!”

Edwina gasped, “Wow, he’s mean. Kind of a vibe though. And Josie is my friend, who I might or might not have been in love with since I was 14. And Haggis gets very cold. His fur isn’t as long as Newton’s.”

“Okay, we need to unpack this after my meeting.” Kate said to her sister, “But can you take that knitting upstairs so I can figure out what’s going on with this one?”

Edwina left flicking Anthony’s ear on the way out. And Kate sighed, resting her chin on his shoulder.

“What’s going on?”

It was gnawing at his stomach, the anxiety. “I’m worried about you. I’m worried something will happen and I won’t be there this time.”

Kate didn’t say anything, just stayed with her arms wrapped around him for a long moment. “I… Am going to be fine. Okay? I’m so well protected. I understand why this is scary for you. I’m scared, but I can’t live my life that way.”

“I know, and I’ll work on this but can I come for today?”

Kate chuckled, “Course you can. My Mum loves you.”

Anthony paused, “Do you think she has a strawberry green tea lemonade?’

“We can stop and get you one on the way.”

Speaking of which, if I ever had to do a collab with someone I would do a Labyrinth au with @sea-owl

Where the Bridgertons are the rulers of the Goblin court and their spouses are adults who have drawn the attention of the fae, as either kids or adults and the fae court wants to lure them into the fae lands by making them run the Labrynth, so they kidnap their ‘children’ aka, their younger siblings.

Kate went to a town fair with her little sister and in the process of getting rid of a guy that was way too confident in himself, she insulted the Goblin king, probably told a glamoured Anthony to his face that he wasn’t that attractive and that his flirting didn’t work on her. So Anthony took little Edwina as petty revenge and now Kate has to brave the fae lands to rescue her. But she’s not letting him win, and she sure isn’t letting him have her sister! That overconfident jerk.

Simon actually was rescued from the Labrynth by his Aunt Danbury when he was a kid, apparently ‘the little Duchess Daphne’ of the Goblin court took a linking to him when his father wished him away, but Aunt Agatha rescued him. Now as an adult, with the disappearance of Aunt Agatha, Simon was left as the sole guardian of his 14 yo cousin Gareth, and somehow the fae have taken him as payment for Simon. And now, it turns out, that the little duchess who used to like him, is not so little anymore. And Daphne still thinks he’s handsome.

Penelope actually broke a promise when she was a child to one of the members of the Goblin court. As a kid she used to think they were imaginary friends, since she lived in a very old house near the forest, so she had no problem promising she would marry the handsome boy who liked to play with her in the garden in exchange for having someone in her family who loved her. When her sister Felicity was born, Penelope’s family moved away, and she forgot her promise, now she’s back in Mayfair, and it seems like her handsome imaginary friend, isn’t that imaginary,  or that benevolent anymore. How was she supposed to know Colin was the most chaotic brother of the Goblin king? Or that he’d take his gift back, in order to force Penelope to come to him.

Phillip didn’t know that the very pretty girl who used to sit by the lake with him when the twins were born, was some sort of magical creature. Eloise was kind, a little eccentric but she listened to him when he was a struggling new dad. She seemed to like the newborns too. So when Marina started to lose her temper more and more, with the onset of her illness, it was natural for Phillip to confide in his nice mysterious friend. He didn’t expect Marina to have an accident in the lake shortly after that. He had to move away because of the accident. He knew something was wrong with the lake and feared something could happen to him and the kids. He didn’t know Eloise could be patient, waiting until he came back to Mayfair, with his cute little twins. Ready to be fully lured into the Goblin court.

Araminta always told Sophie that one day the Goblins would come to take her back because she wasn’t really her father’s kid, but rather an unnatural bastard left on their doorstep and sure she sometimes dreamed about being spirited away when she was asleep, but she didn’t want little Posey to be stolen by the fae when Araminta wished for Sophie to be gone instead. A very handsome Goblin offered to help her find and rescue Posey, but the thing is that he also seemed to want her to be his mistress in the Goblin court. Ugh what had she gotten herself into?

Finally, wickedly flirtatious Michael, who lost all his family in a freak house fire that left him and 6 yo Lucy as the sole survivors. Michael only survived because a beautiful fae girl from the Goblin court was there during the fire and let them live because she used to like his dead cousin John (who in that house had offended the bloody fae??, Michael always suspected it had been Lucy’s uncle). Michael of course raised Lucy as well as he could, far away from Mayfair. Until he came back for a visit and the messenger from the Goblin court appeared, letting him know that the lady Francesca was no longer satisfied with their last bargain and now she wanted Michael to provide a playmate for her little brother Gregory. But Michael didn’t want Lucy to be taken forever by the Goblin court. So if the sister of the Goblin King wanted him to be wicked, he would show her wicked.   

Cue Kate, Simon, Penelope, Sophie, Phillip and Michael teaming up to run in the Labyrinth and survive the respective traps set by the fae in order to rescue their siblings. Maybe I just want to see the Bridgertons hosting the most decadent fae masquerade ever, while their significant others are decked to the nines in the most exquisite finery known to men, dancing to music that’s too good to be true. But also extremely suspicious of these very powerful fae that claim to love them, but are still, technically kidnapping kids to keep them from leaving the fae lands.

(In Eloise defence, she always planned to adopt Phillip’s cute twins, it’s not kidnapping because she technically never planned to give them back.. Anthony, Colin, Benedict and Daphne yes that qualifies as kidnapping, and Hyacinth is getting way too chummy with Gareth but look at Francesca, she never intended to keep Lucy for long, sure, Gregory did get a strange fixation and he did want to keep Lucy forever, but the point is, Francesca was okay with returning Lucy to the human world after a few days, Michael just took her summons the wrong way and that’s the story they’re sticking to if he survives the labyrinth)

 I just think this is an au that’s been running through my head and @sea-owl would understand why.

You know what be a cute idea? Doing something like a language barrier between the Bridgertons and the spouses. I like to think that to a degree, the spouses can understand English or they're smart enough to put things together. The Bridgertons on the other hand are a mess and have no idea what their true loves are saying.

So maybe Kate should've paid better attention when she was being taught English. In her defense, she was learning more important things at the time, too, like business management and balancing financials. She never thought she end up on English soil. Now, if Kate actually tried, she get the language quickly. But sorting through Edwina's suitors went by way faster when they don't understand what she's saying. Then comes along Anthony Bridgerton and he makes Kate so mad! She wants him to be insulted when she insults him. This gives Kate incentive to perfect her English. So now Anthony thinks the only English Kate knows is curses. He's gonna be very surprised that after he sucks on her boob and a string of perfect English comes out of Kate's mouth as she curses down his family tree.

Poor Penelope, on the other hand, some think the girl to be mute. No, her shyness takes over, and she can't speak a word of English. Her mother, Portia, is from Ireland, and while her father was an English lord, he wasn't around much. This left Portia in charge of the girls, and she only spoke Gaeilge to them. This led Penelope only knowing how to speak Gaeilge, with an understanding of English. She was, however, very fluent when it came to written English, but who would honestly carry around a journal to communicate? Penelope might start. After their sudden move to London, Penelope tries to learn English through observation. It helps her new friend Eloise is such a chatterbox. The other Bridgertons are patient with her when she tries to communicate verbally. It's so sweet. It also helps with Lady Whistledown business. Who's gonna suspect her? Well, Colin might after he caught her accidentally reading his jounals, with a few edits she wrote on a separate piece of paper, in English. Him seeing her letter to her publisher didn't help her either.

Then we have Sophie. Her grandmother and mother were both from Italy originally, so baby Sophie only spoke Italian. When she was sent to live with the Earl of Penwood, he was never around. Thus, no one saw it important to teach Sophie english. One of the servants spoke Italian, and so did the governess. That changed when Araminta came about. She refused to have Sophie speaking anything but English. Sophie struggled, but she managed to form a few sentences. Sophie got better when she left due to needing to be but the night she met Benedict again she defaulted back to Italian. This has led Sophie to question how many braincells Benedict has. No is still no in Italian, Mr. Bridgerton! Quit offering for me to be your mistresss!

Yay, so cute!

Friedrich found himself interested in Edwina's nightly routines. Particularly the small pot of oil that was brought to her by a maid in the early evening before she had her tea. Now she was with child, he wanted to do anything to help.

"Can I help?" Friedrich asked.

Edwina shrugged, "Oh, I do not know. Usually, only women do this." It was something she had done with her mother and sister. She never imagined her husband, especially a prince, asking to help her. Then again, he was an unusual prince - he played with children in the streets and was just as happy sleeping on the floor under the stars as he would be sleeping in silk sheets.

"I only wish to help you," Friedrich said, hands on her shoulder, "And I know your back hurts. My large headed child is making life harder. Allow me to help you, liebling,"

She laughed, touching her round stomach, "All right then." Edwina smiled, meeting his eyes in the mirror. He eagerly rolled up his sleeves ready to help.

She held up the small golden pot for him to take. The mixture of coconut and jasmine oil had been warmed up and was incredibly fragrant.

"So this is why you always smell so lovely," He murmured, making her giggle, "Is this a tradition in India?"

"Yes, and in other parts from what I know. Sneha." She explained, "It is an act of love and helps relieve stress. veryone has always done it. Even my grandmother, Lady Sheffield, had mama's hair oiled as a child. Kate and I woud oiled each other's hair before we went to sleep."

Friedrich hummed, a smile on his face, "It is a most wonderful tradition. I hope we may do so with our own children,"

"I would like that very much."

He dipped his fingers in the oily mixture, parting her hair to gently massage it into her scalp. He was a little clumsy at first, definitely putting a little too much in some places, but he was good at massaging her hair, his fingers gently relieving the tension from her scalp.

"Do not tell Kate that you are better than her at this," Edwina whispered.

so started this book because I couldn’t 6 months or 172 days to get my Polin obsession in check and I’m so glad I don’t need to read 1 to 3 because that was never gonna happen trust for me to understand this book 4 but my problem is Penelope is 17 and Colin 22 idk how to feel about it I’m just on page 10 and I know it says in the start he don’t fall in love with hee untill like 10 years later but still couldn’t she have made Colin 18 at least!

y’all Luke so book Colin I’m gonna cry I love Colin even more knowing tv Colin is exactly the same sure I ain’t watch s1 and only skipped to Polin Edwina Ben parts in s2 because I could not give 2 fcvks about anyone else but the way Luke is great as Colin, Nic also amazing as Pen but just noticed how Colin is described in the book is so true thanks to Luke comedic timing in the way he says certain lines it so charming witty and cute and his voice is so soothing sexy! I can see why he was cast he’s literally Colin perfect casting! When he said those lines in s1 that I only watched through tiktok clips like with his mother about scandals or when he talked with Eloise ben about how babies are made or when he said out loud about the play sticks lmao I can actually see it in the book the witty devilish charms and his smirk! If luke don’t win all the awards for it this season as C I’m fighting someone! don’t even get me started on Nic being perfect the mannerism of pen character in the book coming out on the show her kindness her nativity in book being so true in the show they are the perfect polin y’all I’m falling more in love with polin more then I thought was possible I thought I already loved them but now it’s even more if that’s even possible! luke nic too but I already always loved Nicola since derry girls which was the sole reason I started watching the show and polin but also for Simone JB as I’m their fan but I hate K n A with pure passion and couldn’t give a FUCK about their characters on the show I just skip them but love looking at them and watching them do interviews because they are so pretty and lovely people! my loves!

Part 12/? Kate/Anthony scenes I will never get over

Season 2 Episode 2: Off to the Races

To be completely honest I’ve always been slightly bothered by this scene, and although I’m not entirely sure why, I guess it’s mostly because of the way Kate is treated and made to essentially look like the bad guy. But anyway, let’s unpack it for a minute.

First, Anthony gains an audience with Edwina and starts to read the poem(?) Benedict wrote, passing it off as his own, but he takes one look at Kate and can’t continue on. Despite having just gained the upper hand against Kate, he can’t help but be his authentic self around her. And this is something we continue to see throughout the entire season--Anthony may be able to put on a good show for Edwina, but since the very beginning Anthony and Kate have always shown each other who they truly are. 

(Side note: I still find it absolutely hilarious how Anthony went to so much trouble to court Edwina, yet falls in love with the other sister, who he didn’t have to do anything for but be himself. I know a lot of us tend to feel as though Anthony got off a little too easy what with all the drama he ended up causing (I am one of those people), but knowing the lengths he went to just to have it blow up in his face is awfully funny and a little bit satisfying.) 

(Another side note: I know I give Anthony a lot of crap but I swear I really do love him!)

Anyway, after he makes his cute little speech about action and duty and charms Edwina (who, in my opinion, behaved like a petulant child toward Kate in this scene, which annoys me to no end), Anthony can’t help but slide his gaze over to Kate while he’s literally in the midst of conversation with his soon-to-be intended.

They stare at each other like TWO COMPLETE WEIRDOS and don’t stop until Edwina (who truly is that blind and doesn’t even notice) brings Anthony out of his reverie.

Kate, overwhelmed by some emotion she can’t yet put a finger on, starts to leave the room in a rush, only to run into one of the butlers.

Everyone gasps like she’s murdered someone (seriously, calm the eff down people, it wasn’t that big of a deal) further embarrassing Kate, and she isn’t even in the right mindset to apologize.

The only one who couldn’t care less about what Kate actually did and is thinking more about the meaning behind it is Anthony, who is warring with his need to understand Kate’s emotions and why he needs to know and why he cares so much about them.

Anyway, after a fun little talk with Lady Danbury, Kate returns, and immediately is brought into conversation by two men (Side note: I know they’re meant to be conversing with her to win over her affections because of Edwina but can we get real for a minute and just acknowledge the fact that Kate is the SMOKING HOT one in this family??? Like COME ON, there is NO WAY Anthony is the only one who truly notices (although Dorset does later, I suppose, but STILL)). But anyway, Anthony resumes his staring the moment she returns STILL LIKE AN ABSOLUTE WEIRDO, causing Violet to turn and look as well, wondering exactly what is going on and why Kate made such a fool of herself earlier.

I’m assuming that in this moment Violet still thinks Anthony is genuinely frustrated with Kate, although that obviously changes later.

So there we have it, the beginning of an entire season full of staring like absolute fools in love! Should You Need Me: 8 - Wait for me, please hang around

"I'm seeing someone."

Kaveri, Mary, and Edwina went silent mid laugh. Kate looked back at all of them around the dinner table, and she felt her anxiety stricken face relax into a smile she couldn't help whenever she thought of Anthony lately.

"Oh, Didi!" Edwina clapped her hands together. "The way your face just lit up. So cute!"

Kate chuckled. "Thanks, Ed."

"Mary, didn't I tell you? Did I not tell you?!" Kaveri pointed unnecessarily at Mary, who pushed her finger away with an eye roll.

"Yes, Kav. You did."

Kate furrowed her brows. "How could you have possibly known, Amma?"

"Well, I know it was something."

"I can confirm she said there was, quote, 'something.'" Mary deadpanned.

Kaveri waved dismissively. "Ignore her. It's just that… Things had been getting better but, a little while ago, you simply started glowing, Chellam. It's been beautiful to watch. We just didn't know why."

Kate wanted to grimace at the word "glowing," but as she looked at her family, all of whom looked so happy for her, she found the cliche didn't bother her one bit.

"Well…?" Edwina raised her eyebrow.

Right. Well, no dancing around it. "It's, um… It's Anthony Bridgerton."

Kate desperately hoped the expressions she was confronted with were caused simply by surprise, and not disappointment. Or suspicion. The latter thought made Kate wince.

"It's not… Nothing happened before Tom and I, um–And he wasn't the reason." Kate scrambled to find the right words to say. She didn't owe anyone an explanation and she certainly wasn't sorry for being with Anthony, but this was her family and–

Kate was too caught up in her complicated web of thoughts to notice her mother had gotten up and walked around the table to her. Mary had put one hand over Kate's. Edwina was shaking her head and beaming, unspent tears in her eyes.

"Kathani… Don't mind it." Kaveri wrapped her arms around her daughter. "You don't have to explain. We can't pick and choose who presents themselves to us in life or when it happens. We can't pick and choose our feelings, either. If you are worried that we don't know how much you love Tom, or that we won't welcome Anthony with open arms, or, goodness, that we think you did anything wrong, give us more credit, eh?"

Kate laughed a little as a couple of tears fell. "It's just, ugh, the timing is awful, isn't it? And the way we met…"

"Dearest, are you happy?" Mary asked as she patted Kate's hand.

"Yes. I think… Um, it's only been a couple of weeks, but I think this could be… I don't know. He's amazing. And he's wonderful to me. He's quite intense, it's…” Kate shrugged. It was simple, really. “I like it. I like him."

"Doesn't hurt that you'd be hard pressed to find someone as fit as he is, isn't that right, Mary? We've been looking!"

"Kaveri, this is supposed to be a nice moment," Edwina admonished.

"And Kate's boyfriend being an Adonis isn't nice? Are all eight of them such beautiful creatures? What about their mother? Mary couldn't find photos of all of them."

Kate's eyes narrowed as they slid over to Mary. "What does Amma mean, Mum?"

Kaveri clicked her tongue. "Mary may have done some Googling after we met your Mr. Bridgerton."

"Mum!" Kate and Edwina cried in unison.

Mary blushed. "I was simply…curious."

Kate was sitting up against the headboard in Anthony's bed. She stared at the now months old message to Tom that had gone unanswered. 

If he never contacts me again, fine. I mean, it's not fine, but I can't do anything about it. I should still reach out today. 

Hi. I hope with all of my heart you are doing well. I know I have no right to, but I miss you. I hope you had a lovely birthday today. You deserve the world, Tom. I love you.

"What's wrong?"

Kate looked up just as she was feeling tears pool in her eyes. Shit. Anthony was standing in the doorway, wearing a look of grave concern.

"Nothing." Kate turned away from him to put her phone on the nightstand and took the opportunity to wipe her eyes while she was facing in the other direction. She felt the mattress dip and turned back to see Anthony sitting on the bed, an arm outstretched, grasping her ankle. He rubbed it with his thumb and looked at Kate sternly.

"We don't lie to each other, Kate. What is it?"

Kate said nothing, just tied her hair up into a messy bun for the night. Buying time was pointless, though. Anthony was staring at her and she knew he wouldn't let this go.

"It's Tom's birthday."

Kate watched Anthony's entire countenance change instantly, like a switch had been flipped. It was the first direct mention of Tom since she and Anthony had decided to be together.

Anthony's grip on Kate's ankle tightened and his jaw clenched.

"OK," he said in a measured tone. "Why are you crying?"

Kate laughed mirthlessly and looked to the ceiling, shaking her head. "I don't know, Anthony. Maybe because my best friend hasn't spoken to me in months, and he probably never will again, and this was his first birthday since we were kids that we didn't spend together. Just a fucking guess."

Kate surprised herself with how easily she snapped. She looked at Anthony and was frustrated by his completely unreadable expression. He let go of her ankle and turned to sit away from her on the bed.

"I'm sorry you're going through this. And I'm sorry I haven't been more sensitive about it." Anthony was talking down at the floor, seemingly struggling to put the right words together.

Kate reached over to run her hand down his back when Anthony suddenly turned back around to look at her. 

"You said your family knows about me? About us?"

What the fuck? "Of course, I told them last week."

"When can I meet them again? Do they not want to?"

Kate's brow furrowed at the unexpected question. "They want to. They told me to bring you around."

Relief flashed across Anthony's face, but it disappeared as fast as it showed up. "Do you want me to see your family again? Properly, as your boyfriend?"

"I do. It's just… early days. I just like our bubble, you know what I mean?" 

Anthony nodded half-heartedly. "How long do you usually wait to bring someone home?"

"I've only had one other boyfriend, Anthony, and he was already home." Kate regretted it immediately. Why the fuck did I say it that way? Anthony's face made it so much worse. He looked so hurt. Kate hadn't seen him this vulnerable yet. He looked away again. Kate scrambled up behind him and put her arms around his waist. He didn't stop her, but he didn't engage either.

"I shouldn't have said it like that."

"How should you have said it, then? I think that made your point rather perfectly."

"I… I–"

"Honestly, Kate, forget it. It's true, and it's not anything I didn't already know."

Kate wasn't sure how to respond. They were silent for a few minutes. She continued to hold him, her cheek to his back.

"Anthony. Tom is a part of my family. At least, I hope he still is."

Kate didn't think it was possible, but Anthony tensed even more. She saw he was gripping the edge of the bed frame.

"That's just the way it is, Anthony. You have to be OK with that. You…" Kate took a breath and whispered, "You said you'd keep it in check. That you wouldn't be jealous."

"No, Kate, I said I'd try. And I am. I'm shit at it at the moment but I'm…trying, baby. I'll try harder. I just need time. OK?"

Kate squeezed him. "OK. Thank you."

Anthony put one of his hands over where Kate's met on his stomach. Both of their bodies relaxed a bit. 

"Is that what it is, then? Everything about me will be compared to him? Do I even stand a chance?"

Kate tsked. "Oh, Anthony, that's not it, no. Come here, please." Kate backed up on the bed and tugged on one of Anthony's arms, encouraging him to turn around. She sat up on her knees and cradled his face in her hands as she looked down at him. She leaned in to kiss him, but Anthony softly shook his head and sighed. 

"I don't want to be a secret, Kate. I want everyone to know you're mine and I'm yours. I'm proud you chose me, baby. Whatever I did that made you decide I was worth a shot, it's the best thing I've ever done."

Anthony pulled Kate's hands away from his face so he could hold them in his own.

"I want to meet your family as your boyfriend, not the man who's making your dress for a wedding to another fucking guy. We need a do over."

Kate nodded and brought her lips to Anthony’s. This time, he didn't stop her.

"OK. I'll talk to my mums and we'll plan something. Soon. I promise."

"Good."

"I'm proud, too, for the record. That you chose me."

Anthony approached Kate's classroom quietly. He peered into the room, watching her as she put easels and cups of brushes away, swaying to the neo soul that was playing from her computer speakers. She wore her hair up in a high ponytail. Her flowy dress was a brilliant cobalt blue underneath her well used black apron.

Anthony was content to simply watch Kate in her element, but he gave himself away when she popped a crisp into her mouth and made a face he'd started to associate with Kate being on the precipice of an orgasm. He laughed before he could stop himself. Kate looked over to where he stood in her doorway.

"Anthony? What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to deliver these." He pulled the bouquet of orange tulips he'd been holding from behind his back as he walked towards her.

"Oh, these are beautiful."

Anthony marvelled at Kate as she marvelled at the flowers. He took a deep breath.

"I'm sorry."

Kate looked up at him with a slight pout. "For what?"

"Last night. I was being selfish. I don't want to fight."

"Thank you, but… We aren't fighting."

"What?"

"We talked it through, Anthony. We aren't fighting."

"Oh." Anthony rubbed the back of his neck. "Huh."

Kate clicked her tongue as she gently put the flowers down on her desk. She placed her hands on Anthony's shoulders. “Isn't that a good thing? You seem disappointed."

"Oh, I'm not disappointed, per se…"

Kate squinted at him and pursed her lips. "But…?"

"I was just looking forward to the make up sex."

A laugh bubbled out of Kate as she said, "What?"

"Yeah, it was gonna be brilliant."

"If you thought we were still fighting, then what was this morning?"

"Fighting sex. Was that not obvious?"

Kate giggled before stumbling a bit in her search for a response. Her hands moved down to his chest. "Well, you were quite demanding and, um, fervent, but you're always kind of… full-on."

"Right." Anthony nodded, resigned.

"It's one of my favourite things about you, honestly," Kate earnestly reassured him. "And I just figured you were in such a hurry because we both had to get to work–"

"Hurry? Did you not…? I’m certain you–?" Anthony sputtered, offended at the implication.

Kate patted his cheek and laughed as she stepped back to take off her apron. Anthony rushed to get behind her.

"Allow me," he whispered, unnecessarily close to her ear. Undressing Kate had quickly become one of Anthony's favourite things, even when the goal wasn't nudity. He was taking a ridiculously long time to remove the simple garment, letting his hands wander, until Kate stilled them.

"Anthony," she warned. "I work here. With children."

"School day's long over, no? And are you using your teacher voice on me? Because I think it's having the opposite effect than what you're intending." He attempted to pull Kate backwards toward him, but she stepped out of the embrace. 

"Colleagues, Anthony." She gestured towards her open door. "If you want your 'make up sex,' it's not going to happen here. Take me home."

"I thought I was the demanding one?"

"Oh, right." Kate walked up to Anthony, leaning into him until their lips were almost touching. "Maybe I need a reminder, hm? And perhaps a reprimand for forgetting?" She raised an eyebrow at him before grabbing her bag and leading him by the hand out of her classroom.

My Top 10 Favorite Moments From Bridgerton Season 2, Episode 1: "Capital 'R' Rake"

It has officially been one year since Season 2, so please enjoy my upcoming series of posts about my favorite moments from each episode (and ignore the fact that I never finished doing this for Season 1). My favorite moments in no particular order (except maybe chronological):

10- Daphne Passes the Torch

The first Bridgerton we see this season is the previous season's lead: Daphne. And before the show cuts to the opening credits, she wishes Anthony-this season's lead-good luck on the marriage mart. It's a nice cinematic choice for the show to pass the torch on to the next Bridgerton who will fall in love. Let's hope that next season keeps it up with something similar between Anthony and Colin.

9- Bridgerton Family Dynamics

The whole family arguing outside of Eloise's door while she's getting ready is hilarious. Daphne and Anthony are ready to beat down the door and drag Eloise out. Violet has to tell Benedict to be quiet when he's listing ways Eloise might have escaped her room so that her younger daughter doesn't get any ideas. Benedict recognizes that Daphne, who loved her season, is the last person that Eloise, who hates the idea of the marriage mart, wants to see. Francesca is the calm voice of reason when she insists, "Of course [Eloise] is still in there!" and even tries to fan her in the carriage. It's moments like these when they seem like a real, chaotic family.

8- Anthony's Debutante Montage

Anthony trying and failing at the marriage mart is amazing. I feel for the poor ladies. I feel for poor Anthony. I'm mesmerized by his hair in this particular sequence for some reason?

And let's not forget that this is the return of the viscount's bum. We saw it in season 1. It returned in season 2. I wouldn't mind seeing it in season 3. He's got a great bum.

7- The Great Kanthony Race of 1814

This is the best meet cute, hands down. Anthony's returning home like a zombie, trailing behind two geese (foreshadowing!), on a dim and cloudy morning. Then, out of the mist, emerges a mystery rider: Kate Sharma. The sun finally comes out when they speak with each other and Anthony is left with a genuine smile on his face.

6- Lady Danbury Versus Newton

Lady Danbury probably already guessed she was going to have her hands full this season when she clocked Kate's mud-soaked hem, but the look she gives Newton just confirms it.

5- Kate Seeing Anthony At The Conservatory

If you had any doubts about how charmed Kate was by her short meeting with Anthony in the park, wonder no more. For someone who said she's only interested in finding a match for her sister, Kate sure is interested in Anthony. She already has quite a crush on him. Too bad Anthony ruins it by opening his mouth five minutes later.

4- Deficient Character (and Horsemanship)

Anthony and Kate meet again! Anthony is still smitten by this mystery rider and pleasantly surprised to see her again. Kate, on the other hand, has taken a disliking to him after hearing about his "requirements" for a wife. After verbally dressing him down, she leaves him in the dust and Anthony.exe quits working for a while.

3- Benedict Bridgerton Has No Chill

I've posted about this before, but if THIS is Benedict trying to be casual with a girl he likes:

then every last one of the Bridgertons will know he's in love with Sophie within ten seconds once his season comes around.

2- Eloise Putting Down Cressida

Eloise's impatient and blunt declaration that she would "rather die" than be friends with Cressida was hilarious and to the point. Sometimes dealing with bullies requires finesse. Sometimes it requires telling them to just fuck off already. Eloise chose the latter.

1- "Miss Sharma, my lord."

Anthony has decided to just marry the diamond and be done with it. And when Edwina passes his "test" with flying colors, Anthony probably thinks that everything will be smooth sailing from here. Only to find out that the sister he has to impress is the same woman from the park. And he finally has a name to put to the face.

So I thought, What if Kanthony had a Bollywood Playlist?

Yeah, not many brown girls show up in a steamy Regency storyline and this must be venerated with a bollywood playlist (other than the haldi time string quatret version of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham) I have given links on the title of the songs to enjoy

1. Ajab Si ( From the Film “Om Shanti Om” )

The title of the song means “something strange”. It speaks about the strange beauty in the beloved’s eye. The scene of the song depicts the hero smitten with the eyes of the heroine, and has a fateful encounter with her when she is publically walking into a glamourous red carpet. Although the first encounter of Kate and Anthony was not in public but in private, but I do have a feeling that the first time Anthony saw her, he felt drawn. The song also speaks about being dumbstruck by the air of the beloved and her beauty and Anthony was surely dumbstruck by Kate’s scathing comment: “your character is as deficient as your horsemanship,”

2. Dilbar Mere (From Satte pe Satta)

A classic Golden Era number inspired from the tunes of Donauwellen Walzer (aa tune which inspired quite a number of Bollywood songs in the golden era) I think this song fits perfectly for Anthony when he tries to win both the sisters over, especially Kate by hook nook and crook so that he could marry the season’s diamond, Edwina. The song is like a challenge thrown to the beloved. “My darling” the song means “how much will you torment me? I shall light a fire to your heart that you’ll have not choice but to melt”. It reminds of of Anthony reminding Kate “by the end of your stay, I can assure you, your opinion of me would much improve”

3. Dil Yeh Ladaku (From Saala Khadoos)

The number is quite different. The scene depicts how the student falls in love with the teacher she so desperately hates. In the second and third episode we saw a delicious bit of rivalry between the two headstrong and very independent character. The lyrics says “my heart which is a fighter now fights with itself today” The song is filled with cuteness and confusion of falling in love with someone whom you seem to despise. (not to mention the title of the movie means : Bloody Scrooge)

4. Lahu Muhn Lag Gaya (from Raam Leela)

This is a steamy number from a film which was loosely based on Romeo and Juliet: two people from enemy gangs falling in love. The scene of the song depicts a scene from Holi, where the heroine completely captures the hero’s heart after she kisses him in stealth. This act befuddles the Hero and after a few awkward moments, he shares a few flirtatious moments. The title means “I have tasted the blood, which had slept in my veins, the vigor has awakened.” I particularly love this number for the Viscount and Kate’s “bee scene” and Anthony’s befuddlement after Kate unwittingly flashes her thigh during the hunt

5. Ajeeb Dastan Hy Yeh (from Dil Apna Aur Preet Parayi)

Another golden era number for our favourite couple. The song is quite poetic that portrays “the one that got away” feel before Katy Perri made it famous. Even the movie title means “my heart my own and my beloved is of someone else’s”. I think it captures the perfect feeling both Kate and Anthony faces after Anthony’s engagement with Edwina. Anthony practically gets mad when he hears for the first time Kate saying “I am returning to India” and Kate practically breaks her heart when Anthony proposes Edwina

6. Shiqayat (from Gangubai Kathiawari)

The title that means “complaint” starts with the lines “it takes great heart to spend your evenings with only the memories of your beloved; it takes great heart to kill yourself everyday” then it proceeds “I have heard he has great complaints about me, it could only mean he has great love for me”. The context of the song is really painful: the heroine marries her beloved off to another girl because of greater motive and she comes to attend the wedding: drunk and sad and avoids looking at her beloved, who is now newly wed. The context is self explanatory: both Kate and Anthony’s denial of love : “it will be bearable and it will pass and it will feel as if we never felt it before.” ouch

7. Tu Janey Na (From Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani)

The scenario is the hero is helping the girl he loves to run away with the guy the heroine loves. He is practically arranging the marriage alter for the girl. The song starts with “How to tell you why I want you, Darling I can’t; what my heart wishes to say my eyes tell to you, but you don’t know”. I really really imagine Anthony would be thinking something like this when he stands in the alter and Kate walks down the aisle as Edwina’s Bridesmaid. The song also says “we didn’t meet even if you and I met each other, there is a thousand mile chasm between us” this feeling must be solidifying as Anthony saw every moment pass to his wedding.

8. O Meri Jaan (From Life in a Metro)

It is a long struggle of social standing, situation and then the grand realisation of love for one another... despite all the circumstances. The song is about warmth of love and following the selfish desire for the beloved, I think, when Anthony cries and tries to propose, this song would be perfect, the climax of the song says “my heart does not understand any other relation, I don’t know what has happened to it, my arms seeks you madly and only you... where are you oh my life my love”

Do you still like Kanthony or more specifically Kate? I was scrolling down your Twitter and I saw you recommend an Edwina fic. I started reading and I’m halfway through it and it kinda pains me to see some fic authors or people from the fandom love this fic. It’s well written but it also makes Kate a villain and rewrites season two to fit the narrative of Edwina being a puppet in Kate’s hand. Of course i’m not saying what you should enjoy or read but I’m just wondering if that fic mirrors your opinion of Kate. I really hope I don’t seem rude with this ask, it’s not my intention and if so I apologize.

hey! going through my asks top-down because it’s easier. 

yes, i adore kate. she’s my #1, my ride-or-die, my unabashed favorite. i have a hard time getting investing in stories where she’s not at least a peripheral presence. 

because i love kate and i love flawed characters, i enjoy seeing her make mistakes and other characters viewing her in a critical light. it makes her human and it makes her all the more appealing to me. 

the edwina fic, for me, is one of the best fics in this fandom. i find the author’s portrayal of both edwina and kate (even in her more limited presence) to be compassionate and forgiving. a hard truth we have to swallow is that kate fucked up!! not as much as anthony did (that man was a single-handed catalyst for the mess of season 2 and he got off essentially scot-free; the audacity of men indeed). but she did fuck up by not telling edwina about her feelings and almost letting edwina marry a man who didn’t love her (and what’s worse, loved her sister). kate had her reasons and they were very sympathetic, but that doesn’t erase that hurt. and then, after s2, edwina had to attend kate’s wedding to the man she almost married, and have her entire future basically dependent on being in the good graces of that very same man (who is now her brother-in-law). 

that shit’s tough. edwina’s allowed to not have the most gracious feelings towards kate. in fact, that push-pull between love and hurt/hate/heartbreak/devastation was what made their relationship so good. kate was a good sister. an overbearing one, but a good one. and now, she barely knows anything about edwina and edwina barely knows anything about her. it’s so heartbreaking. i mean, they were family!!! the angst, the hurt, the love that continues to survive despite it all. this author did such a great, great job with edwina and kate’s relationship and edwina’s character development. 

and she also got me thinking: how could kate accept anthony’s love at the end of s2 if the fractured relationship with her sister was the consequence? how would she get over that roadblock? how would anthony feel for being the cause of this broken relationship? the possibilities there for an angsty post-s2 kanthony fic are ENDLESS. the situation is so good, so painful. the writer in me was endlessly inspired by the beautiful, haunting world this author created. 

as to your point about edwina being a ‘puppet’ in kate’s hands, well.... it’s an AU fic. some things were different, some remained the same. also, we have to understand... it’s edwina’s POV. the way she sees things were obviously very different from how kate or anthony (or the viewer) saw them. it doesn’t matter if her perspective is right or wrong, because the story’s about edwina and her journey to healing! it’s not so important to me because i think the friction in kate and edwina’s relationship was realistic and extremely well-done. i enjoyed the hell out of it. 

and edwina and freddie were so cute!!!! i’m now also shipping them like nobody’s business, which is great. 

tl;dr: it was a fabulous fic, the author is enormously talented, and i can still love and adore kate even if she’s not portrayed in the most flattering light in the stories that i read. good writing is good writing, and that author, to me, was one of the most talented voices i’ve encountered in this fandom thus far. we’re privileged to have her :)

Kanthony ‘I’m Divorcing My Tyrant Husband’

Kate Sheffield, up and coming British polo player did not expect to somehow die in a car crash and wake up in her sister Edwina’s favourite romance fantasy novel. Worse, the character that she reincarnated isn’t the main character but rather the most loser extra, Kathani Sharma, the long suffering wife of Tyrant Emperor Anthony Bridgeton, who only exists as a political marriage prop for the emperor and his concubine to shine. Since the male lead not only neglects his empress but also highly favours the concubine his council encouraged him to accept into the castle, to the point where Anthony spends the whole novel ignoring Kathani's needs until his wife eventually dies of consumption over an illness that could have been easily prevented. All while Sienna receives all the love of the people.

The situation is frustrating. With seven siblings ruling different continents, Anthony’s power is absolute, and his wife is barely respected because she hasn’t produced an heir. Reincarnated Kate of course, thinks that the husband the novel landed her with, is total garbage. And since she is not the original Kathani Sharma and doesn’t want to die of illness or whatever scheme Sienna Rosso can hash out to make her look bad, she realizes that her best bet to attain a peaceful afterlife in this novel, is to make Tyrant Emperor Anthony get sick of her and divorce her.

So no more Mrs nice wife. No more taking care of the kingdom, no more playing the part of a demure Empress, no more paperwork, no more begging the Tyrant Emperor or his siblings for attention. Kate doesn’t like Anthony and she’s going to make it his Kingdom’s problem. From now on, she’s going to be the biggest pain in the grass that the castle has ever known, She’s going to spend Anthony’s money in dresses and jewels and whatever else until she bankrupts the kingdom treasury (Anthony just thinks his wife is cute, if she bankrups him, his family will just conquer another continent to get more gold) . She’s going to barge in his meetings with other nobles (that’s also good, Anthony gets bored in meetings anyway), she’s going to publicly buy slaves in the black market (and secretly set them free, but shhh) all in all, she’s going to be such a terrible empress that Anthony will be forced to divorce her.

But wait… Why does he seem to like her even more when she disrupts the order of things and causes mayhem? What is wrong with this trashy womanizer that the more she tries to get on his nerves the more he laughs? If only he could divorce her. Argh, why won’t he just let her go, she wants to live her life in peace, But no, the more Anthony Bridgerton gets inconvenience by his stubborn Empress, the more he believes she’s the right woman for him.

Maybe she should get a lover, infidelity has got to be a cause for divorce even in fantasy land right…. Wait Anthony, no no no, stop trying to kill Thomas Dorset!! He did nothing wrong! He was just staring at her for too long!! Didn’t the Tyrant emperor in this story always ignore his empress and favour his concubine? Why are there rumours that Anthony never slept with Sienna? And why the heck is Anthony so determined to kill any man who gets close to Kate??. What happened to her divorce??
