Kit's Reaction

Am I the only one who was highly confused at Kit’s reaction to seeing Surge alive?

In fact, I was equally confused at his reaction to Sonic telling him that Surge was gone.

One of the most important moments of Surge and Kit’s story is when Surge gets crushed by an Eggbreaker and emerges without a scratch. This is what prompts them to hack into Starline’s video files, and in those video files, they learn that they both are nigh indestructible.

So to me, it didn’t make sense that when Sonic told Kit that Surge had “died”, Kit completely believed it. 

Sonic even explains in detail HOW Surge supposedly died, and arguably, getting buried under debris is NOTHING compared to getting crushed by a giant mace, yet Kit completely buys that Surge is dead.

Before issue 53 released, I had predicted that if and when Sonic told Kit that Surge was "dead", Kit would feign distress and grief, and later look for Surge. But his reaction to learning that Surge was "dead" was genuine.

Then I read the issue and thought "okay, next issue, he'll see that Surge is definitely not dead and remember she's nigh indestructible," but no! It completely slips Kit's mind.

I feel like Kit's reaction to hearing that Surge was "dead" and later seeing her alive was done solely to stir up conflict between Kit and Sonic, and to get Kit back on Surge's side as quickly as possible.

The only explanation I can think of for this plot hole is the Imposter Syndrome miniseries and Battle For the Empire arc were written by Ian Flynn, while the Overpowered Arc was written by Evan Stanley. Maybe there was a communication issue somewhere along the lines that led to this plot hole.

In universe, the only explanation that I think would work is Tails shutting off his hydropack messed with Kit's mind to the point that he forgot a terrifying event he had witnessed. But that feels cheap.

Did anyone else notice this plot hole?
