You can indeed survive having your tongue cut out. The term is elinguation- it was a common punishment historically, notably in ancient Rome. The tongue stump just needs to be cauterized immediately.
ohhh. still sounds dangerous, like you'd have to act quick so there's no dying from choking on the stump! that's cool though, i had no idea. :o

WOULDS'T THOU SPEAK UNTO ME THE DRAWINGS OF THREE? SUCCINCTLY AS ONE CAN, MY RUBESCENCE. SAVE YOUR FILIGREED VERBOSITY FOR THOSE WHOSE AURAL CLOTS (OR IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE, OPTICAL STALKS) HAVE NOT YET BEEN BLESSED WITH YOUR ENCHANTING VERNACULAR
I swallow my mouthful to spare you the earful, my love, and produce a spread which I think you will find quite to your liking.
We begin with the Wheel of Fortune, continue to The Tower, and conclude with our dear friend The Fool.
The wheel of course turns in the heavens, a great coin rolling off the back of the devil, in holy bibliophiliac company. What goes around comes around and goes around again. Coincidence? Yes, actually, which is what makes it so spectacular to behold.
The legendary ivory tower, the golden arrow of the gods striking its crown in ultimate judgment, scattering its inhabitants to the winds. Down and down they go, and where they stop we do not know. Hopefully it is in water, because the man in the cape is still on fire, but fortunately for us the importance is in the flight of the fall itself. Your foundation is gone, and after a certain point no quality of aim can save you now.
And we have the fool, that delightful fellow on his open journey, who in carrying along all his worldly possessions found he had only to fill a rucksack, and took it as good luck that he had a hand free to pick a flower and beckon his small beast to join him. What do you give to the man who has everything? What do you give to the man who needs nothing?

i cant stop looking at the pic of his shoe 😭 its just so offensively ugly, im forced to stare like its a bad car accident. the shoes are just so flat and shapeless they look like clown shoes but make it ~sporty~, they look pilgrimage chic, these shoes have walked on the mayflower, when he walks you can hear cartoon slaps, there is exactly one sheet of paper between his foot and the ground, this shoe has less soul than ginger minx, he performed elinguation for all the tongue it has, he needs to hire a personal maid to tighten those fucking corsets on his feet (what are those laces??), these shoes were there for isaac newton discovering gravity, these shoes got pulled out of the dirt like a root vegetable, these shoes have seen less moisture than dream has seen sun,

the alalias are in late bloom their velleities they cannot vernalize-- in tongue-web they got witch's-broom
the sty-elinguation to which they're doomed is delayed until tacit acceptance-- the alalias are in late bloom
these shade flowers are frenulumed-- forked in apical phyllody in tongue-web they got witch's-broom
their velleity-catkins are subsumed by the vertillicasters the alalias are in late bloom
of all knee-ranulas they'll be displumed, those damping-off amuletum in tongue-web they got witch's-broom
and now the stolonguation resume for all the indehiscent dampulets  the alalias are in late bloom in tongue-web they got witch's-broom

Trying to figure out how I should respond to this comment in a sensitive manner
TLDR at bottom.
So I've posted the final chapter in the 2nd arc of my (very) dark fic (yay!) To make a long story short, this fic happens to be heavily a mystery/case-fic, with the perpetrators consistently offing most of their victims in the same manner -- by cutting off their tongues and allowing their victims to bleed out to death. Since the discovery of these crimes, it has always been known that it's a part of the perps' signature.
My MC has been abducted by these perps and we've reached the climax where his teammates have finally found the perps and there's a stand-off. He's in their clutches and they do the consistent thing -- they remove his tongue cleanly with a pair of shears. Thankfully, ambulance came along with the police, so in the following chapter, tongue replantation is going to be discussed.
I received a comment with a person telling me they were going to dip out if the MC's tongue is gone because they have trauma related to this. I'm just flabbergasted. This has been a major feature in my work, a consistent element weaved in multiple times, but now at ch38 this is a trigger? In 34, there was an immediate threat of elinguation to the MC and this commenter didn't say anything.
Nevertheless, I was sympathetic in my response because since the beginning I've told readers to dip out where needed; I've encouraged it. Throughout the story and from time to time, I've told my readers to take whatever breaks are needed and/or to take care of themselves and dip out if they need to. So in my reply, I was thankful to the reader for getting this far and encouraged them to Google traumatic lingual amputation and the procedures in replantation recovery -- in the realms of this story. I also reminded this reader that my MC's recovery -- mental, physical, and emotional -- is extremely important to me and not something I take lightly at all. Trauma recovery is in the tags. For them to leave off just before this starts after having read nearly 25 chapters of this guy slowly being picked apart would be a cruel disservice to them and would leave a bad taste in their mouths (pun intended!).
In their reply, they were thankful for my reply, then mentioned that they have adverse tongue related trauma and wouldn't do the googling because the trauma is assault related. I plan on apologizing for that suggestion. But. Mind you, there is assault in my work; there's even the threat of oral sexual assault in one part; and there's the constant threat of elinguation. Again, the elinguation is a core feature of my work. My work is properly tagged in whole, and I do give appropriate trigger warnings in relevant chapters at least once (but not in every chapter). Now that it's here and is undetailed, she's suggested that I should put a trigger warning in the beginning of the chapter.
To suddenly put a trigger warning on something that has been heavily featured, hinted at, and foreshadowed in previous chapters seems strange to me. The previous chapter ends with a limited 3rd person POV where the drugged MC knows there's a sharp sheer at his tongue. I'm willing, if anything, to put it on my end note, but find it difficult to spoil such a huge and pivotal part of this chapter, especially in the beginning -- especially for something that has been weaved in throughout the story and is not a surprise content.
I don't want to isolate this commenter at all and I'd rather prefer to remain sympathetic to their wishes, but I dunno.
TLDR: Commenter is suggesting I put in a spoiling trigger warning at the beginning of my latest 38th chapter to warn for something that's already been heavily featured, hinted at, and foreshadowed, throughout the work. I don't want to push the commenter away.
Suggestions? Again, I'd like to be sympathetic to their concerns but still put my foot down.
