i cannot be the only person who immediately thought of the hospital scene in the hbo tlou show when nadja was going to save guillermo. maybe it’s the film student in me but like…
the camera following a character making their way down the hall of a dingy hospital, taking people out to get to a person they care about. the person lying there in a hospital gown, about to be killed by a doctor for a greater good. the doctor holding out a sharp medical instrument, exclaiming “you can’t have him/her.” and both nadja and joel saving their found family by taking out a doctor, even though it means keeping a huge secret related to their loved one.
Okay SO, I've been working on Ellis and Ivy Nicole's kids🫶
They have two! Twins. One a boy, one a girl. They were born in '74. The boy's name is Ellis Jr., but they call him Eej or EJ more. The girl's name is Jeanette, but they call her Jeanie🩷
EJ is the oldest by a couple of minutes, but oh, he will not let you forget it! He always brings up the fact that he's the oldest. He is bipolar like his mother. He is a good mixture of his mom and dad. He is usually warm and bubbly. But when it comes to his teen years, that's where the tension rises. He tries really, really hard to be a good kid, but these moods, oh man, he just doesn't understand them. Why does he feel so so so sad somedays, and why does he feel greater than God other days? Ivy Nicole notices and tries to keep her eye on him.
Jeanie is the youngest, and she really doesn't mind lol. She just rolls her eyes whenever EJ brings up the fact that he's older. Jeanie likes things to be neat and orderly since her childhood was not. Ellis and Ivy Nicole are not the most stern parents around, and they certainly bring a sort of craziness that can make home life feel a little hectic. Jeanie loves her parents but really hates that they lack structure. She easily gets anxious because of this.
It's been so much fun thinking about the base outline for these characters ahhh I can't wait to develop them further!
R&B group, En Vogue, had a cameo as prostitutes (girls on corner) in the film Batman Forever (1995). They were, however, not featured on the soundtrack
Right-wing pundits are drawing lines in the sand over whether to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA). The slim GOP majority in Congress has enabled the possibility of a few members of the party forcing a vote on removing the Republican speaker, and many MAGA-aligned personalities have stoked the flames while others say they back Johnson.
Prominent House Republicans have called for Johnson to be removed from the speakership for his role in pushing for foreign aid spending without ties to spending on the U.S.-Mexico border. Earlier this year, Senate Republicans struck down a bipartisan border and foreign aid spending bill amid opposition from House Republicans, including Johnson, and former President Donald Trump. Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), and Thomas Massie (R-KY) have all called for Johnson to step down or risk a motion to vacate. [NBC, 4/19/24; CNN, 2/8/24]
Following the passage of over $60 billion to fund Ukraine’s defense efforts, Greene said, “Mike Johnson’s speakership is over.” She added: “He needs to do the right thing to resign and allow us to move forward in a controlled process. If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated.” [CNN, 4/21/24]
@mediamattersforamerica takes a deep dive on the right-wing media's divide over whether House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) should stay on as Speaker in the wake of securing passage for a bipartisan foreign aid bill for Ukraine.
