incoming anti-milkvan rant but pro-elmike rant (and some byler mixed in there because you know me)

my rants aren’t very organized so i apologize :,)

mike and el haven’t been together since like the first season, and their relationship has been descending since then.

the most they’ve spent by each other’s side was in season three, and even then they were in a group setting like the whole time and it wasn’t them, together. also we’ve all seen the season three blocking. they are almost never next to each other

with will it’s the opposite. mike and will spent no time together in season 1, but spent 90% of the time together in both season 2 and season 4 (el was barely with mike in either of these seasons) and while season three had them be less of a pair, once again, the season three blocking comes in clutch and makes sure to pair mike with will in every group setting

they even spent the end of season 4 together. even after mike confessed his “love” for el. el and mike aren’t talking, they aren’t with each other, they’re not even paired together in the blocking of the final shot. (we all know who is, though.

when are mike and el ever together since they’ve been dating, excluding scenes that further the deterioration of their relationship? they’re barely together at all.

el continuously has a plot/subplot of coming into her own. being independent. not being defined by papa, or her dad, or mike (as max says in season three). obviously she wants to have a family and loved ones. she deserves to have that. she does have that - but that’s not going to be taken away or lessened by her standing on her own two legs without anyone else telling her how they want her to do so

all of this has been leading to a milkvan breakup. it’s been built up for multiple seasons now. they’ve laid the ground work. mike and el were best together and understood each other the most when they were friends.

notice how i didn’t say “just friends” - romantic relationships are not actually any stronger than friendship. just different. in fact, friendship is stronger, and while romance can heighten that (like with other pairings in the show) sometimes it just doesn’t (like with mike and el).

mike and el haven’t been friends for a while. like how people say “just friends”, they’re just dating. they’ve been doing this since they were so young and they’re still so young and they don’t understand the importance of the friendship aspect of romantic relationships. they only understand what girlfriend and boyfriend are supposed to do, and they can’t even try to do that without it all falling apart.

they need to be friends again. their relationship would be so much stronger. i miss their friendship. they were so sweet and so understanding and so good together when they were actually friends. a lot of couples are both friends and dating, especially in stranger things - look at lumax, my favorite example of this and why i love them so much. but mike and el aren’t. and they should be. they were best when they were

i fucking love elmike and there’s no chance of me getting them back if they keep trying to date each other “correctly” instead of, i don’t know, trying to be friends again. making genuine connections with each other. being true to the nature of their relationship. they are such friends, and maybe if they were friends and dating it would work out, but they’re not and it’s clear they’re not going to be. so if it’s one or the other, they should pick friends. they are amazing together as friends. they were always best as friends.

and then when we flip over to the byler side of things. mike and will have had a long time being friends. they’ve been friends, best friends, since kindergarten. in season 5, they’ll be in junior year, and they will have been best friends for ten years. they’ve had time to have their relationship develop, unlike mike and eleven. they are so clearly very good to each other and with each other as friends - but there is something grating on their relationship and friendship recently. something bubbling beneath the surface, making smooth sailing not so smooth.

yes, this is a metaphor for homosexuality. homosexuality is banging on their door. these bitches GAY. and it’s straining their friendship. they’re still friends, obviously, and they still want to be, but by ignoring this whole other piece of their relationship, they start fighting and misunderstanding each other for the first time in the history of their friendship. something clearly needs to change here.

when byler does become canon, there is zero doubt in my mind that they will still also be friends. that is the backbone and most important part of their relationship, and that is why their relationship will work. and that’s also 80% of the reason why i ship them, especially over milkvan, who just aren’t friends anymore like they were in s1.

something needs to change here in both mike and el’s relationship and mike and will’s. something that will benefit all these characters individually and their relationships. something that the creators have been laying the groundwork for for multiple seasons now. and i cannot wait to watch it happen. i love all three of these characters so much and i need them to get their happy ending

Ship/pairing in Stranger Things, my opinion on them !

In my Stranger Things post i told that i will telling my tough of the ship/pairing, what's my opinion and why i love/root for some of them and don't like/not root for other !

I will principaly explain for the canon/future canon/old canon pairing since i have more to tell about them but i will still explain some platonic pairing and headcanons !

Introduction of the ship/pairing :

Endgame couple for me (in order of preference) : Byler>Lumax>Jancy>Rovickie>Jopper (bonus : Dustin&Suzie <3)

Ships that i like ONLY on headcanons/fanfics : Mileven/Byclair/Elmax/Steddie/Stancy/Ronance/all the crack ship (EXCEPT when it was a minor & a major of course ! (like Vecna x Will, this is not a joke i saw them °-°))

Platonic pairing that i love (and for some want to see them more) : Elmax/Elmike/Willel/Jonathan&Will/Mike&Nancy/ Steve&Robin&Dustin/Ronance/Karen&Joyce/The whole party !!

For the endgames :

Byler fan converted me ! Before when i was a simple GA, i have seen that Will was in love with Mike, that was as clear as day to me but never i have imagined Mike reciprocated. I was indeed against Byler since i have become a Mike hater, i was like a lot of people : "Will deserve better that Mike"/"Mike do not deserved Will even as a friend"/"Mike is straight and in love with El" really all the typical phrase that the GA and Milkvan tell ! And because of this mindset i had never bothered to take an interest in this ship. That change since this year, it start with Youtube videos and then Tumblr ! Now it's my FAVORITE SHIP OF THE SHOW AND I'M A STRONG BELIEVER THEY ARE ENDGAME !!!! (i'm also a Gay Mike Truther (even all the headcanons are valid) and a El was never been in love of Mike truther too ^^) They will be the most incredible (queer) Slowburn i have never seen !!

Lumax at the beginning I liked them, i found them cute but nothing more i was not rooting for them really. S3 do not arranged that since them as a couple was in the background but S4 change that ENTIRELY !! It was GENIUS to seperated them at the beginning, it allowed me to care about them again with a fresh new start ! I really love that Lucas do not tried to get back Max, he just want to be there for her and want her as a friend even he's still have clear feelings for her, and Max who in reality is still secretly concerned about him and opens up to him and... OH GOSH I LOVE THEM !!!! They where my n°1 before Byler and honnestly they are still close <3 (honnestly they are what Mileven should have been, i will certainly explain this further in a post)

Jancy love them, more i tough about them more i love them, they will be okay despite the event of S4 ! Rovickie same <3

Jopper they are my least favorite only because of S3, i do not like them in S3 except in some scene the rest not a fan.. In S1/2&4 they are better ! I start to ship them in the S2 and the S4 has caught up with the damage of the S3 !

(Dustin and Suzie are just TOO CUTE <3 If i have to place them they will be between Lumax and Jancy !)

Headcanons/old canon and platonic pairing (like i said i will not explain all of them since some i just like them with least explanations of why) :

Mileven/Elmike so.. where do i start..! I have never root for them as a couple, even when i was a GA ! In the first two seasons i like them they are cute and sweet but after they just insufferable. I start to hate both of them because of their relationship. But now thanks to the Byler i love them again but platonicly the Elmike, they are very much more suportable and i love them like that, espiacially since i became a Gay Mike truther ! Now i only like Mileven ocasionnaly in fanfic because it's better that in canon ! (Logic since Mike & El have never been writed to be together romanticaly in the end X'D for me, of course ^^)

Stancy i didn't care at the beginning, they have been the typical teenage couple but i have really like what they're doing with them individually ! I admit when the S4 came out i have root for them, i hesitated between Jancy and Stancy after the S4. Now i have seen some analyses and they are better as friends honnestly, i like them but not like that anymore (excpect in fanfic <3)

Elmax it's self explenatory S3&4 resume all !! I love them platonicly (and even romanticly <3)

Willel i wish we have seen more about them as siblings !! We briefly see them in S4 and i'm sad :/ They are the UD/001 sibings, i want to see more of their siblings relationship they are just so cute ! <3

Mike & Nancy same like we only see them bonding in the S1 and only S1 ! S2 they are seperated, S3 they are together but barely talk to one another and S4 they are seperated again ! Thankfully we will see more of the Wheeler family in S5 and a leaked prove they will have a heart-to-heart i'm SO HAPPY !! ^^

I’m kinda over these lip-reading theories. I do think the theories and speculations are fun but I don’t think they should cause craziness on either side (mileven or byler) because we are not going to know for sure until the show comes out. I just keep seeing people arguing about which ones are more accurate, and the new AI one is making things worse. We’re not gonna get any takes that aren’t biased (except maybe Nina’s but even then idk it’s still just gonna be a theory), and idc how reliable this person’s AI is, it is still posted by a person who has their own opinions and biases, I’m sorry but I won’t believe anything til the show comes out.

Just thinking about the miscommunicated needs between Will and Mike in season 4. 

Mike was sharing his burden: his guilt, his torn-ness, his shame, his anxiety of a situation that he communicated himself as unchangeable. In his words, something you “can’t come back from”. He was seeking to cope by processing verbally the fact and consequences of him not being able to say “I love you” to El. We hear him say “if only” statements a few times. That’s a part of processing grief - something that has passed. He wishes he could have, but he doesn’t view the situation as something that can be saved by now. If only he were a person who could.

But Will thought he just couldn’t say it but wanted help communicating it. Will thought he needed advice. Will thought he needed a push.

And they were so close to being on the same page. Enough so that Mike thought they were for a long time. “You know, if you keep staring at that, it’s not gonna change” later answered with “It just felt like a fight we can’t come back from”. Same page, right? “You can tell her then” maybe not. “Sometimes it’s scary to tell people how you really feel, especially the ones you care about the most, because what if they don’t like the truth?” Same page, right? I mean, he said what if they don’t like the truth. If that isn’t the same page, I don’t know what is. And he is nodding. And he looks like he might even be about to say something. So later, he does. He confides about how he feels like he isn’t enough and he feels like El is so above him and he feels guilty that he can’t say he loves her but he doesn’t want to lose her over it and “You don’t want to lose her” Same page! For sure, right?

But not because what’s the next thing Mike hears but “You have to tell her, she’ll break down if you don’t tell her you love her, she told me herself. She loves you so much she had me make you this to represent how much she missed you. You REALLY need to tell her.” not on the same page.

So he tries to tell her, because the stakes are much higher than he thought. If he doesn’t tell her he loves her, she’ll feel like a mistake. And this is a short term solution to be delt with more long term later. But he’s interrupted by Argyle. And then he wants to save her and he’s losing her RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM to VECNA and Will suggests it “You’re the heart”. And if the lack of his love made her feel a like a mistake, maybe the presence can help her too. So he says all the true things about how he doesn’t want to lose her. And he makes sure to say the phrase too. Lord knows if she heard it. Lord knows if it helped. But it’s better than nothing.

Oh, the consequences of a miscommunication.

When you genuinely think about the Pizza Place Talk through a metaphorical sense, its so fucking queer coded.

Mike is shown fruit on pizza. Mike reaches the conclusion that fruit on pizza is wrong and he is uncomfortable with it because "fruit on pizza is blasphemous" (this being a word used to describe something that disrespects anything holy or relating to god). Mike is told he needs to try it to actually form an opinion rather than immediately disliking something because it's not normally "okay" to like. Mike tries fruit on pizza. He finally agrees that fruit on pizza is okay, good, safe and the right choice for him.

I think what makes this scene even better is that Mike and El's talk about their relationship was immediately interrupted by this scene. I also think El being encouraging about this, even going as far as shoving the pizza in his mouth😭, is an indicator that she'll be part of Mikes self discovery journey. I really need ElMike to heal my soul, please and thank you Duffers.

Literally the perfect example of words vs actions.

Mike says to El 'I can't lose you.' And, firstly, 100% Mike does not want to lose El. Of course not. If you don't respect the elmike bond, you are in the wrong place.

but this isn't his greatest fear, per se. not specifically. Mike doesn't want to lose ANYBODY. he says it to el, but he also runs through a thunderstorm into the woods after will. he also runs into the woods through a thunderstorm after will a different time.

if i had a nickel for everytime mike wheeler dragged at least lucas sinclair through a thunderstorm on their bikes to look for will, but they ended up abandoning the bikes, and start running through the woods calling for him, with mike leading the charge both times, i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?

stop reducing this fear to el it pisses me off.

Two years ago today, we witnessed the FUCKING VAN SCENE for the first time and lives were changed, Russia gang escaped the prison, El’s whole fight with Brenner who ultimately died and she also blew up a bunch of stuff, Elmike and Willel reunion,Hawkins gang preparing for battle, Jopper FINALLY KISSED after all these years, Hawkins gang + Cali gang working to defeat Vecna, MASTER OF PUPPETS, Max gets Vecna’d, Mike’s goofy ah monologue, Vecna revealed to have been behind everything,Eddie and Max die(max did technically die), everybody thinking they lost but they Kinda won(for now), everybody reunites and that’s the last time we’ve seen our favourite characters. Well, other than BTS.

I totally agreeeee! I feel like platonic elmike is like a so much nicer dynamic than them dating. Ans tbh I really feel like they were never rlly "in love" w each other. I feel like el took the affection and care mike gave her bc he wanted her help to find will (the only reason he rlly kept her around tbh) and she was told by other people and saw that same care in a romantic sense in the soaps she was watching at hoppers and felt that it was a romantic thing and she should date mike.

And for Mike, it's much simpler. He never saw el in a romantic sense until Lucas pointed it out. He also was teased by nancy about it and basically everyone to the point where I think he tricked himself into liking El and seeing her in a romantic sense!!! (Sorry about the rant, lol)

I'm a byler, through and through. Like legit, if you cut me open, I don't have any internal organs or anything. It's just a collection of byler edits stuffed inside me. And i LOVE EL!!! (Unlike m*lkvans who want wills head on a spit) like wholeheartedly love el, and I truly believe that she should be single!! Not bc of the weird m*ilkvan opinion that "the person who's in the way of my ship should be alone and sad forever" no but in the way that my girl was dating mike WHEN SHE LEGIT HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT MEANT TO LIKE SOMETHING AND HAVE OPINIONS! like, what the fuck!? How is that a positive/healthy relationship???

I believe she should be single, but in a badass, she doesn't need a man (because she's a badass who doesn't need a man) kind of way because it would be so much more empowering if she like saves the entire world and can discover herself and her personality before she is practically forced (bc that relationship was DEFINITELY influenced by outside sources) into a relationship. Like m*lkvan. She deserves someone who actually loves her and is ABLE TO SAY IT WITHOUT BEING ENCOURAGED AND HELD BY THEIR BEST FRIEND *cough* Micheal wheeler i know what your are *cough*

El deserves a happy and caring and loving relationship. But not yet. She is not ready to be in a romantic relationship. I love her soosososososo much, which is why I believe her and Mike breaking up and byler becoming canon (bc it totally will) will honestly be the best thing for both her and Mike's story. But i really don't want to make this about Mike. Bc this is about elven. And what she deserves (which is the whole world, btw) and this is 100% an el hopper-byers appreciation post. (With byler undertones ofc)

(the entire exchange of course happens during a really tearful conversation where they talk about how thankful they both are that he found her in the woods that night) (this is also a scene from my forever pending-to-be-written fanfic)

As much as I understand where it’s coming from

how about we cut down a bit on the posts that are like

“fanon elmike is just canon xyz” “fanon willel is canon jonwill” etc.

I mean, I kinda understand where it is coming from

But I just feel like it’s really unnecessary sometimes? Having a fanon vision that may differ from the canon depiction isn’t hurting anyone as long as someone isn’t toxic about it.

Let people enjoy their silly little fictional blorbos in a way that they want to enjoy them + at this point in the story we have NO idea how, for example, platonic Elmike will look like in season 5, do we? We only have concepts and theories, so maybe don’t act like you know for sure what it’s like.

Thats the beauty of waiting for the story to expand, making your own visions and waiting to see how close to the truth you were, and even it it turns out to be different, you are still very much allowed to enjoy a dynamic in a way that you imagine it or write it in your fics and headcanons.

I’m sorry but it just makes me personally sad and angry and it’s giving gatekeeping. Fandom is a safe space for me, a place where I want to enjoy media I consume and have fun about it with other people, not a space I go to to be told how exactly I should be enjoying said media.

it’s always been the case that i just love el so much more and enjoy/appreciate her character more when she’s away from mike and pursuing an independent plot line. for example in seasons 2 and 4. whenever she’s figuring out something about herself or her past, i enjoy it more than when she’s just having another problem in her already broken/failing relationship with mike. she’s such an amazing and important that she really does deserve not to be reduced to mike’s girlfriend or a superhero. she’s a person (albeit not real) with thoughts, emotions and ideas that go well beyond just ‘being a superhero’. el saying “mike…i love you but like i love my friends and i think you feel the same way” would be so powerful.
