double strike is happening hell yeah!!!!!
reminder to only get your info about what the unions want in terms of support from non-members from official union sources and not from randos on twitter, your favorite celebrities, or god forbid, outlets reporting from amptp sources. no official boycotts (except amazon prime day yesterday, which has already passed) have been called as of yet. this is not to say that you can't choose whether or not to keep your subscriptions to streaming services, just that you should avoid spreading misinformation about boycott activity!
show your support by tweeting/posting about it, by donating to the Entertainment Community Fund, or by respectfully joining your local picket lines (consider bringing water and sunscreen to help keep picketers safe in the heat).
and, keep in mind, as disappointing as it may be to wait longer for new content/promotional events, expressing sentiments of disappointment with the strike does not help either union. your support matters! so stand by any workers who are striking, especially when it personally inconveniences you!
the amptp cannot succeed in its plan to bleed workers dry if we all find ways within our means to support the unions! community efforts make a big difference!

DUUUUUUDE! Get it South Korea!
Tumblr media
That's the article directly. Please give it a read.
If South Korean actors and writers strike against Netflix, Netflix would be COMPLETELY fucked.

I hope this is true. Because it would just be so in line with deciding to be so cartoonishly evil in public right before SAG was set to go on strike as well. A union that really has the power to shut down the whole industry and make them lose astronomical amounts of money per day.
All that Deadline article probably did was make SAG more emboldened to get everything they're asking for and not extend the deadline again.

Do you know how much media has been produced in the last decade? This really was the era of overstimulation where you never really could watch all the stuff there was.
So when people complain that TV will be bad now, so? Go back and watch all the stuff that's just rotting on streaming platforms it's not like it's 2007 and linear TV is your only option.
But most importantly just support the strike so that the people who make all the stuff you like can keep making it :)

Since the WGA strikes began, the studios have been trying—and failing—to turn fans against the writers (and now the actors). I reported on a very strange SDCC this year, which was full of labor conversations and solidarity along the full spectrum of the fan/creator divide. As one member of SAG-AFTRA told me during an awareness-raising demonstration across from the convention center, “The people that I have met today have been all thumbs-up, V for victory, hugs. We love it, and we’re very pleasantly surprised.”

THE PICKET LINE: A ROAD TO PAY EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY - WOODSTOCK FILM FESTIVAL
youtube
SPEAKERS: Neil Gaiman, Dana Weissman, Jo Miller
MODERATOR: Thelma Adams
The Creative Industry has been radically transformed in the last several years due to the pandemic, economic turmoil, advances in digital technology, and production efficiencies.
Yet, creators of content, writers, actors, and many others that are instrumental to media development are still struggling to ensure economic sustainability.
To date, over 11,000 writers and 150,000 members of SAG AFTRA have taken up protest to be heard and galvanize change.
Come hear as the experts and those on the front lines, union members from Writers Guild of America East (WGAE), and Screen Actors Guild/ Aftra, discuss what has been done to update contracts that no longer serve current working conditions, and a critical look at what the public can do to support their efforts.
New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) advocates for equality in the moving image industry and supports women in every stage of their careers. An entertainment industry association for women in New York, NYWIFT energizes women by illuminating their achievements, presenting training and professional development programs, awarding scholarships and grants, and providing access to a supportive community of peers.

shane madej joking on the webby Q&A and saying that, “we [ryan and himself] don't have a lot of fun. there's a seething contempt for each other that we harbor at all times.” while looking at ryan like this right after is the kind of duality i love to see in a friendship lmao 😭

Showcase example of why I am deeply skeptical of Eat The Rich types. Too many of y'all are like this fuckhead who has no clue what rich requires eating.
Also for context: Ron Perlman has been acting since 1975. Studio exec Bob Igor made $27 million last year from Disney alone, just one of his streams of annual income, which includes but is not limited to stocks, real estate and consulting.

Genuinely I think that an entertainment industry strike is one of the best things that can happen in the late capitalist hellscape of our current era.
Because if people already don't have bread, and you take away their circuses, well...
It tends to not go well for empires, when that happens.
