Herobard introducing Barry to Robern in the future, who is not yet aware of the utter shenanigans Eobard has become entangled with in the past
Robern - *definitely recognizing Barry from Eobard's 'pictures from the past that he very definitely did not take himself' that Robern damn well knows Eobard took himself* Eobard Thaddeus Thawne.
Eobard - *innocent expression*
Robern - What the fuck did you do? Did you break the timeline???
Barry - *O_O* It's nice to meet you?
Robern - Oh, yes, sorry. It's nice to meet my brother's boyfriend, the Flash from 200 years ago. *turning passive aggressively towards Eobard*
Eobard - I have not, technically, broken the timeline. I admit, the timeline has been broken. But I, technically, was not the one who did it.
Barry - Though the person who did was, interestingly enough, also called Eobard Thawne.
Robern - I'm sorry, but his nonsense is your problem now.
Barry - *nodding* I'm okay with that.
Eobard - I am so wounded, only Gideon loves me.
Gideon - I feel like this is the perfect moment to pile on.

Hang on. The TIMES Eobard begged Barry to kill him? PLURAL?! AS IN MORE THAN ONCE?!
Eobard has a complicated relationship with his own mortality and whether he’s begging to live or die really depends on the day, but yeah, he’s asked Barry multiple times to kill him. One reason is knows death is a very temporary condition for him, and he prefers it to being in prison. I can’t say that I blame him considering the condition he’s kept in and the things he’s subjected to when he’s in prison most of the time.
Tumblr media
From The Flash #753
The other reason is he just has a snuff kink.

if Barry learned anything about Eo's childhood and awful parents somehow I think he'd find a way to adopt him or something which ironically would result in like 90% of Eo's desperation for Barry's attention being resolved anyway

Thinking about the similarities between Eobard and Kang and how both are essentially caged by the actions of their future (potential future?) selves and how its a constant fight between embracing the identity(ies) history has given them but also their rejection of them and how its a struggle against their own scar tissue across time

Note: it’s a slideshow, not an article. I don’t like slideshows all that much. But linking to this anyway, because Iris and Eobard and Cisco are deservedly on the list! (And also some non-Flash characters I care about who could’ve been higher-ranked than they are tbh.)

You're a hero, Barry. You offer protection, hope, light. What [the Arrow] does is carry out a dark reckoning for his city. It is a brutal, violent vision of justice; one we do not share.

speaking of august vs thawne I felt like those two were being petty towards each other when barry forced the 3 of them to work together. I remember at some point august pointed out how he's better than thawne cause he's actually willing to change hence why he gets to be part of barry's life. personally I felt like that struck a nerve in thawne and that's probably one of the reason he killed him lol. "you thought you'd get to be with barry? guess again!" moment
The thing about Eobard (and this is something that drives me insane in a very good way) is that his actions look pretty much nonsensical when you look at them without context.
Why did he kill August at the end of The Flash Age, after everything had gone SO WELL?
Barry trusted him, Eobard did the right thing. They easily fell into the right rhythm, they helped each other no strings attached, and not only that - after saving Chris, Eobard went back to Barry and August to save them too.
He could have very well left them to die, and if you think about it, he can just walk into the Speed Force and pluck Barry out like he did in the Rebirth Mini. So it was really just a plain good action.
But then he goes and pulls August's neck like a chicken's? Why TF Eobard? Barry doesn't understand it, and since we don't get Eobard's POV, we don't see what's in his head when it happens. But if you know enough Flash lore, it's possible to piece together what went down.
First of all, and this is very important to consider, Eobard was walking away. It's August who physically stops him.
Tumblr media
August grabs his arm, and Eobard immediately understands what this is about. August wants him to go back to prison. The fact that his response is about trust, and the defeated look on his face, make the feeling of betrayal pretty evident.
(also what in the FUCK you think you're doing August, this is a whole ass tiger not a kitten you can scruff oh my god. anyways)
Now, the reason why Eobard immediately assumes (correctly) that August wants him back behind bars, is because this exact same thing happened to him so many times, and it's basically a trauma so big he would rather take his own life over going to prison.
Back to his time of origin in the 25th century, he would stay locked up in the most inhumane conditions (total isolation, sensory deprivation, no human contact to the point where they fed him using radiations so that no one would approach and talk to him), and the only way he had to get out for a very limited amount of time, was when the good law abiding citizens needed a hero to fight some kind of superpowered foe.
Because in the 25th century superheroes are illegal, when something too dangerous comes up, the only way to fight it off is to use a criminal. And who better than Professor Zoom, the "sociopathic knock-off" of the now defunct hero the Flash, who'd do anything for a scrap of freedom and two minutes of leniency - especially because for all his life Eobard has desired being a hero and help people, so he'd never refuse such an offer.
Page from The Flash #147. The Flash in question is Wally in one of his timetraveling adventures.
Tumblr media
So Eobard helped, everyone cheered, and then locked him back in prison.
We see this *in The Flash Age* as well. It's what happened when he had to fight Paradox the first time - he was pulled out of prison and he not only fought of Paradox, he also saved the survivors, rebuilt Central City and the Flash Museum with it.
Tumblr media
Now of course August couldn't possibly know all of this, but what August knows is that Eobard, when he was locked up in Iron Heights, was in this condition:
Tumblr media
So what he's doing is in fact demand that Eobard, in order to actually gain their trust and proceed on his "road to redemption", willingly goes back to that BDSM contraption thing in sensory deprivation and with a muzzle in his mouth.
After this man went back in time to specifically save August's ass from a world eroding from under his feet.
Eobard is openly terrified at the idea of going back to prison, by the way. Many times he very clearly tells Barry that he'll die before going back to the situation described above. Or to this:
Tumblr media
Or this:
Tumblr media
Or this:
Tumblr media
And I could go on but you get the picture.
August basically put his whole foot into an open wound and twisted. The idea of going back to jail after his five minutes of leniency had to be so upsetting that I'm surprised Eobard JUST broke August's neck, and didn't like, gut him up while he was still alive.
It's understandable that people would think that he killed August out of jealousy, or that he somehow cringed at the good action that he did and had to sort of compensate with a bad one. But it's actually way more complicated. And the saddest part is that he assumed that Barry was on August's side, wanting to put him back to jail, because he's traumatized as fuck and will always assume the worst possible scenario.

What’s your favorite part of writing your Eobard Vs Eobard series?
I've really come to enjoy all the world building for the future and creating Herobard's backstory. Crafting it as believable that young him still could have become someone like EoWells, but it makes sense that he was able to choose a different path where he could become a kinder, more compassionate person instead.
But also figuring out what the big hot button issues of the day are. It's a good future where queer rights are solid and meta rights are largely squared away too, but AI rights and non-human immigration laws are still works in progress. What's the technology like - what's similar to what we have today because some things persist and what's completely different? Hovercars? Of course. Star Trek style sliding doors in the home? Yes!!!
It's been fun to play with and I look forward to when the narrative returns there, though I think have Eobard be a history nerd is going to be an absolute delight.

@comfortfoodcontent and @kylereadscomics did this first, so I thought it would be fun to think about what some of my favorite comics are. Here are some of my favorite single issues, stories, and runs:
Avengers by Kurt Busiek and George Perez - This was my first Avengers run, loved the characters and George Perez's amazing art, plus my favorite Ultron story, Ultron Unlimited.
DC vs. Marvel - I love crossovers like this, and as a kid, because my favorite character is the Flash, I was Team DC. The other fights were fun as well.
Detective Comics #627 - A reprint of Batman's first appearance in Detective Comics #27, plus updates of the story by different creative teams, including Marv Wolfman and Jim Aparo, and Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle, showing how Batman has evolved over the years.
Superman for All Seasons - Possibly my favorite Superman story, showing Clark's early days and my favorite version of Superman, the guy with incredible power who just wants to help.
Green Lantern: Rebirth - The story that made me a Green Lantern fan, loved the big space opera action, the different ways the lanterns use their rings, and made Sinestro my favorite Green Lantern villain.
Incredible Hulk #377 - The first Hulk comic I read as a kid, loved the Peter David run, his examinations of Bruce Banner's character, and Professor Hulk was my favorite version of the Hulk.
Kingdom Come - One of my favorite DC stories, loved the commentary of traditional super heroics versus the grim and gritty 90s, and how those ideologies clash. Plus, Kingdom Come Superman's outfit is still epic.
Flash: The Return of Barry Allen - My favorite Flash story, loved seeing Wally West step out of Barry Allen's shadow, the start of the Flash Family, also solidified Eobard Thawne as my favorite Flash villain.
Starman by James Robinson, Tony Harris, Peter Snejbjerg, and others - A more recent addition for me, as I was always a JSA fan, but never read all of this run until recently. Loved the characters, especially Jack Knight and the Shade, the Golden Age history, the themes of legacy, the villains, and how the story reaches a satisfying conclusion.
Wolverine and the X-Men by Jason Aaron, Chris Bachalo, Nick Bradshaw, and others - I'm probably going to get some heat for this pick, but this was the book that got me back into X-Men post Morrison and Whedon. I read every issue as it came out, and it was so much fun, I liked the characters, the action, the villains, and Genesis is one of my favorite characters (love the idea of "what if Apocalypse, but Superman"). Plus, it has Wolverine and Storm as a couple, my OTP.

struck by a horrible need to make fake screenshots for a fake documentary from the 25th century ala History Channel where Eobard is being interviewed for the film. It no longer exists and neither do the people who edited and misquoted him to misrepresent the facts.

Tournament Round 31: Professor Zoom the Reverse-Flash vs Godspeed
Professor Zoom the Reverse-Flash defeated Dr. Alchemy (Alvin Desmond) and Lady Flash.
Godspeed defeated Girder, Axel Walker, and Evan McCulloch.
It's another Speedster fight! Can Godspeed defeat the much more experienced Eobard?
Probably not....

The New Teen Titans (1980)
The Flash (2016)
He produced so many cool characters that have made a permanent part of the Flash mythos. Also he gave an end to Eobard Thawne. Barry forgave him. That hit me so hard because Geoff Johns got me into Flash but his writing is so gorey and extreme. And seeing Williamson have a different take is so refreshing.
