Is anyone in the Willow fandom familiar with the Odyssey? I was listening to EPIC the Musical again recently, and Penelope's story parallels Sorsha's in Willow (2022) quite a bit.

In EPIC, Penelope's line "though I never thought it would come to this, just know I'll be here / buying you time" makes me think so much about Kit's marriage to Graydon. Did Sorsha try to put off the marriage for as long as she could, hoping for the day Mads would come home with the cuirass, ending the reason for the marriage?

And it really makes me feel for Sorsha. In many ways I feel like she failed as a mother, but I wonder how many years she spent defending her borders and trying to do the best she could for her children but also her kingdom? The fear and the worry that kept her up at night, wondering if she was doing the right thing, wondering how long she could hold off Galladorn, wondering what happened to the man she loved. Whatever you think of Sorsha's parenting, I think she's an interesting character to explore

Anyway I think like many epic tales, Willow has a lot of parallels to epics like The Odyssey, and I think it's a fun thing to think about

(Contains Kingmaker spoilers for book one, though I know the story from my tabletop campaign, which is only loosely based on the Owlcat game, so I’m not sure when different bits of information are revealed)

In the holiday gift exchange form, shouldn't we list prompts somewhere?

There is barely anything on the form that can be used for plot if the headcanons are generic

Some of us writers (me) are not great with generating plot for fanfics

Also, the person we are gifting is who gifts us? If not, an odd number of participants shouldn't be an issue

First, the odd number thing! You will be assigned a person to make a gift for. That person is not the one who is making a gift for you. You will not know who is making a gift for you. Its a Secret Santa type thing. Basically, you will not know who is giving you a gift, and the person you are gifting will not know that you are the one who is giving it to them. If there is anything dire and someone cannot complete their gift for another, then I would like a last minute plan. Ive participated in a large number of secret santa/gift exchange things in the past for many fandoms and have been asked almost every time if I could possibly take on another gift because someone had something come up at the last minute. Second, the headcanons. Really in my head the headcanons are kind of like prompts. So far, for the responses I have seen in the form, they are a bit like prompts. I remember when I participated in a CATS gift exchange two years ago, one of the headcanons that I received was "Sillabub and Demeter have a mother/daughter relationship." To me, that means that I could have written a fic showing cute moments where Demeter was very mother-like to Sillabub, or shown her taking Sillabub in and slowly become her mother-figure, or any of that sort. Ive gotten 5 responses so far, and under the headcanons slot, all of the things written have been very prompt-like. Of course, if you do not find the stuff written there to be enough for you, then when I assign people and send out the stuff then you can always send the other person an anonymous ask for a prompt or ask me to send them a message asking for a prompt so it can be relayed back to you.
