Yo, your art is sick! It's fucked up in the best kind of way! Also I remember that era of projecting onto Alma, I was very much the same when I first saw Encanto. But here's the thing. She gave birth three times over, watched her home be ravaged and burned to the ground by bandits, had to walk in the middle of the jungle after giving birth three times away from the only place she's known whilst carrying said three babies, only to have the love of her life slaughtered in front of her because he thought it a good idea to sacrifice himself AND BECAME THE LEADER OF A TOWN AND DEAL WITH A MAGICAL FUCKING HOUSE ALL IN THE SPAN OF 24 HOURS ALL WHILST MAINTAINING THE IMAGE THAT SHE HAS HER SHIT TOGETHER AND KNOWS WHAT TO DO. Alma may not be my favourite character and yes, she doesn't get it right, but she is far from being the villain.
thank you!
I got jumpscared for a hot minute because I thought you were talking about alma mahler (whom I have posted about in the past) before I realized you were talking about the encanto character lmao
but I agree! one of the reasons why it’s one of my favorite disney movies is because it explores family issues in such a dynamic and nuanced way, and while her actions were damaging to the family, they ultimately came from a place of love for them and for her community. the fact that the movie acknowledged this while also addressing how she hurt her family, even with good intentions, was something I really appreciated, and I’m sure a lot of other people did as well.
I was mainly laughing at how, back when the fandom was in its peak, people blew her character WAY out of proportion to how it was written in the movie- for instance, a common hc I often saw was that she forced bruno out or disowned him, while in the movie, he left on his own. while the rest of the town ostracized him for his predictions, his family readily accepted him back, suggesting that they were more hurt by the fact that he left the family without any explanation than by anything he may have predicted. (and from alma’s perspective, if she viewed the family’s duty was to serve the town, it must have been even more hurtful to her if he just left without saying why.) so, both characters are pretty nuanced and complicated, but I saw a lot of fandom hcs and posts that characterized alma as everything from physically abusive to homophobic (with regard to the popular headcanons that bruno, mirabel, and isabela were lgbt). when like, as you said, she’s a deeply flawed person, but she never was as bad as a lot of people made her out to be.
I think what happened there was, as “encanto” is a story about, among other things, familial trauma, people wanted to explore their own familial trauma with these characters because they related to them. it’s a big cast of characters who are all related, so obviously you’re going to find one you connect with (and personally, I saw a lot of myself in mirabel, which is part of why I like the movie so much). or maybe, as fandom does, people just wanted to come up with stories, headcanons, and character dynamics with this big cast of characters they liked. and because a lot of people viewed alma as the source of the family’s trauma (which she sort of was), she became an avatar for all the traumatic things people wanted to explore through those stories, such as abuse or bigotry, even if she may not have displayed those concepts in canon.
overall, at the end of the day, I don’t think there’s anything right or wrong with people interpreting media the way they do; that’s what media is for, and if someone casting alma madrigal as a terrible person helps them work out their own issues, that’s great; she’s a fictional character, so there’s no harm done to anyone. I just think it’s sort of funny how a whole fandom saw this one fictional old lady and collectively decided she was the Worst.

listen if the existence of the book means there are an infinite number of realities then there’s at least one where fukuzawa took in the both of them and the ada was born on two pillars instead of just one
(pls do not tag as beast)

autistic characters being mostly identifiable by their inability to detect social ques and read sarcasm is very nice and relatable, but seeing how autism differs from person to person, I can tell u that it doesn't represent every autistic person and I think we should vary our representation more with how we portray autism
anyways. I think ink is actually good at reading social ques just that he ignores them because he thinks some social ques are stupid.
sometimes sarcasm does completely flow over his head but the way he responds makes it impossible to know if actually responding back with sarcasm or if he's responding genuinely because he didn't get it
while we're at it, ink being a dick sometimes unintentionally is also nice, like yeah it happens to autistic people to be mean without wanting to, but honestly I think he's more often a dick on purpose
he can travel through dimensions and he has seen the face of god do u think that he won't gain a bit of ego? that he wouldn't have a bit of an attitude? or that he won't intentionally fuck with others for laughs than run away before they catch him?

BSD is the only fandom I know of that would take canon content between a ship and say “that doesn’t count bc it’s fanservice” 💀 what does that even mean?? And yes I’m talking about
Tumblr media
This is an actual scene in a movie / manga / light novel. Asagiri was involved and supervised the whole thing. It HAPPENED. It’s CANON. Wdym it “doesn’t count”??? Who decided to write this off as fanservice?? Like you guys are taking one of the most canon gay scenes and saying it doesn’t count bc it’s too gay so therefore it must be fanservice. You really think they had a meeting like “we should do something nice for the skk shippers let’s have Dazai and Chuuya be super gay” you think Asagiri with his track record would do/allow that?? You think he’d throw in some unnecessary yaoi just as a treat?? Please bffr.
If this happened with any m/f ship it would be treated as genuine ship content. Hell, if this happened with bakudeku half the fandom would rejoice and the other half would be beyond livid and disgusted but they wouldn’t say “doesn’t count it’s just fanservice”

Can't take off my mind this very specific flavor of sskk dynamics from a timeline that goes like: the doa arc never happened. Skip forward to bunch of years past the canon events, and you have sskk who can't really call each other enemies since it's now evident to everyone they enjoy seeing each other, but aren't friends either since they do very much still work for enemy organizations. And they just keep stumbling across each other on their respective missions from opposite fronts, trying to capture the same target for their own team, and they keep fighting and competing with each other in a way that is almost playful (but never going easy on each other because then where's the fun!), making them both almost look forward to meet and clash with the other on missions and to fight for the same target. And the mission accomplishment rate has now decreased to a 50% for both of them but neither of them can bring themselves to really care because for the first time they're having the carefree, mindless fun they never experienced in their lives and they have a person they enjoy to spend time with to the point they even got past denying it. And Atsushi telling Akutagawa “even if I let you go now, I'll still have to hunt you down” and Akutagwa replying “hunt me then” and theatrically disappearing out of a window or something leaving Atsushi laughing and just. them being together although nobody is going to say it out loud
#atsushi nakajima#ryūnosuke akutagawa#sskk#shin soukoku#bsd#bungou stray dogs#mine#q.#24/10/22#I think it's not even that unlikely to happen either? To name one‚ something of the kind already happened in 55 Minutes#(Akutagawa being assigned to hunt down pm traitors and Atsushi infiltrating in the same group– same target‚ different goals)#I just think fic writers should let go of the trope of them being assigned to the same mission by a collaboration between organizations–#which is‚ let's be honest‚ so unlikely to happen and even in canon was a one-time occurrence#(yet is such a recurring expedient in fanworks!!!) and embrace the potential of Atsushi and Akutagawa being assigned to the same mission–#from their respective organization AS ENEMIES and unexpectedly meeting on the field.#The surprise!!! The romantic tension!!!! C'mon it's so good!!!!!!!#The eventual begrudging come to a temporary accord!! That is something they chose and is not imposed!!#The turning their back to the other last minute to guarantee their own victory!!#The playing everything from the beginning again and again like a loving dance!!! Now THAT'S a good trope.#Sskk typical unconventional mating rituals right here#And since y'all really like matchmaker Dazai you can still have him getting in touch with Chuuya–#and see to which parallel missions Atsushi and Akutagwa can ~accidentally~ be assigned together lmao#Btw this was largely inspired by Sway With Me by atsumara_co on ao3 that fic opened me a world.#The quoted line is partially reprised from that I couldn't help it it's such a great scenario#Usual disclaimer that you should really write whatever you want#this is more of a reflection on my personal tastes based on what I've found to be popular in the fandom#I've already talked about this before like I can't bring myself to hold it against authors because it is an easy way to make them interact.#Still for me it really cheapens their dynamics if you make them repeatedly join forces like it was the norm...#It stripes the value of them being from enemy organizations do you get what I mean?#Kyotag out

I keep thinking about RE AU Robbie and Lisa hunting each other in Dimitrescu Castle. Robbie is mostly just quiet while trying to survive this hellhole and Lisa finds that so so boring. She keeps talking at him until he finally breaks the stonewalling hes been doing to snap back and she LOVES it its like a little treat for her. The fucking.. SNARKINESS from both of them at each other would be OFF THE CHARTS once she finally gets him to say just a little bit.
Have this one particular scenario where Lisa is critiquing Robbies 'manners' (he managed to land a shot and she's trying to play it off as nbd but OW.) And he just 'HA! Your creepy ass has NO ROOM to talk to me about manners.'
'Very un-gentlemanly to talk about my ass but alright'
'I. YOU- UGH. LETS SEE HOW UN-GENTLEMANLY I AM WHEN I SHOOT YOU IN THE FACE'
She keeps bringing up things she's seen him do when she's stalking him but not attacking. So he starts doing the same thing to try and freak her out and it fails MISERABLY. Lisa is SO excited to have someone watch her right back none of the people she's hunted around the castle have managed to do that.
Its MASSIVLY endearing to her and if anything it's the cherry on top (the main bit being WOAH HE MANAGED TO KILL ONE OF MY SISTERS) of the reason why she decides to try and use him to escape. So. Task failed successfully on Robbies part??? I guess???
Overall Robbie's just. The most fun she's has had in years and he's just trying to figure out why the weird vampire fly girl hasn't gone for his throat yet

cwilbur with a full beard.
OOOOOOOH OKAYOKAY. THAT IS AN IDEA!!!
He would have one in Utah, I think. He’d forget to shave one day, and the next day he’s too tired, and he’s got extra shifts at the gas station the next day so no time, and it continues. And one day he looks at himself in the mirror and freezes, because he doesn’t look like himself. He looks like someone new.
He does not shave it off. Utah is a place of new beginnings, right? Of new starts? Of starting over? Perhaps he can be someone new, now.
