I have a bit of a random question? Why is green witch arc considered the s*bac*el arc? I don't mind the arc, but I'm just afraid non-manga reading fans are going to heavily ship Ciel & Sieglinde due to their ages. If anything I think it will cause a bigger rift amongst the ship/fandom. I personally found something like the Book of the Atlantic to be more SC coded, so I was just curious if there was something crucial I wasn't understanding?

Right, I can see why people might see GWA as Cielinde and if they see it that way, that's totally valid. Will it create more discourse in the fandom? I don't know.
However, for me personally, when I first read this arc (that was BEFORE I got into Sebaciel), I actually ended up shipping Sieglinde/Wolf 😔🙃
But why I see GWA as Sebaciel coded is because this is where their relationship takes a big leap forward. I talked about it in this post and this one too.
I can see why you see BoA as more Sebaciel coded, and no, you're not missing anything. And I agree with you. Both arcs are Sebaciel coded (almost the entire manga is SC coded if you want to see it that way), but they're different.
In Book of Atlantic, we see their past, how they learned to be an earl and his butler from a spare and a demon, as shown in Sebas' cinematic record.
In the 'Tango on the Campania' (the musical) Sebastian made it even more clear that at the beginning of their contract, Ciel was just 'any other child' and Seb himself was 'just a demon'.
At the end of his record, we see how Sebas chose to serve Ciel because he's fascinated by his beauty and his foolishness.
In GWA, it was Ciel's turn to choose Sebastian as shown in these panels.

Add those to the posts that I've linked above, I think we can say that this arc plays a very significant role in the development of SC relationship.
The way I see it, BoA is the basic foundation of their relationship, mostly in relation to their past. It was also the first time that Sebas realized that he could lose Ciel.
GWA builds on that and it solidifies their relationship. This is necessary, and even important, to prepare them for the future (The Boyband arc, the Zombie Brother arc, and the rest of the manga).
If what happened in GWA hadn't happened the way they did, Sebas wouldn't have realized how much he cared about Ciel.
In GWA, he almost lost Ciel (again) and this time, it was worse because this time round, he had to depend on others (Sieg & Finny) to save & take care of his master. For once, he was powerless, and more importantly, Ciel has rejected him. Without those events, he wouldn't have realized just how important Ciel is to him and it also takes him down a peg or two and I'm always down for that.
On Ciel's part, without GWA, he wouldn't have been able to face his zombie brother like he did. It was during his... inner turnoil that he realized why he's doing this and it was then that he has chosen Sebas, above his own family, above his trauma, his guilt, and even his brother.
This is an important turning point and a big leap for the both of them, both individually and as a unit. They went through their own individual character development in relation to each other, unlike in BoA where they both developed together as a team.
So, yes, both Book of Atlantic and GWA are Sebaciel coded, but in different ways.
Also, the result of GWA? My most favourite panels in the entire manga...

My point is, there is no right or wrong answer/way in looking at each arc. What I share with you here is just my own way of looking at this arc through Sbcl lens. Some people might look at it differently and they might not even see the significance of GWA in relation to Sebaciel, and that's completely okay.

so after months of testing the vet informed us a few days ago that our cat does, in fact, have skin cancer. to get more specific it's actually squamous-cell carcinoma.

it's affecting the tip/side of his left ear and hasn't spread to his nose or the other ear, so the vet recommended surgery to get the ear removed as soon as we possibly can. this would be on september 2nd, this monday.
exams like x-rays and biopsies have already been pretty expensive so i'm making this post to hopefully offset the cost of his pinnectomy (ARS$180,000->USD$189) even just a little bit. the whole thing has been really stressing and adding to that a messed up family situation where i can't ask them for help, please trust me when i say i wouldn't do this if i didn't need to.

Why Bart/Kon Shouldn't Be A Rare-Pair: The Konbart Manifesto and Friendship Deep-Dive.
This is a long post with a read more cut further down.
Trigger Words: Death, Depression
I feel like during the time Kon and Bart were both out of comic continuity a lot of comic enjoyers 1.) forgot that these two were intensely close and 2.) in the case of newer fans never even realized the depths of their friendship even prior to Young Justice 2019.
This post is going to primarily focus on Bart and Kon's friendship and how they work together both presented in the comics, and what is implied through dialog and circumstantial events.
Even if you are not looking at what is presented below through the shipping lens, what I am going to compile here at the very least showcases that they have an intense friendship and solidifies that Kon is one of Bart's lightening rods and these two are relevant to each other in ways that I rarely see explored in fan works.
Bart in fanworks with Kon is frequently more or less there as a backdrop to another ship, is there for light moments or just is glazed over as "not a best friend" when the comics make it blatant that Bart and Kon are intensely close.
So let me explain their history and why they work so well together as friends first, and how the ship makes sense and should not be considered rare or a "crack-ship" as they are mutually affectionate.
1.) Kon and Bart share a ridiculous amount of things in common.
I talk about this frequently on this blog and others have pointed this out before in separate posts, but their similarities and sense of belonging to their respective worlds are factors that absolutely bind them closer and in special ways that others do not.
Unfortunately, this is (mostly) an indirect example of their dynamic because DC either sees no value in exploring these commonalities, or writers just have not recognized these details to explore them to fulfil deeper connections between Kon and Bart.
The exception to this was when Bart acknowledged their own sense of isolation and 'weirdness' in Young Justice 2019 The Emancipation of Bartholomew.

"I don't know who to talk to about any of this. No one can relate. Not even the other Flashes. I think that's what you and I always kind of had in common, Conner. We are not like everyone else. Even in our Superman and Flash columns... We are the most different." - Bart
Bart is ultimately correct here as both he and Kon share that when it comes to their family columns they stand out and have history and abilities that is isolating to the point where others in their families might not be able to connect to or relate to them in specific ways, but that doesn't stop their respective families from trying and loving them regardless.
Other than their isolation, they also share in common some key things that happened to them in their lives and some traits that a writer could absolutely capitalize on to make a strong story and it binds them closer together.
Here's a non-exhaustive list of past formative events that both Kon and Bart share.
They both were victims of dubiously moral scientists at the orders of cruel men.
They both do not have proper childhoods due to their unique births, younger life situations, and weird aging (see #4).
Both have genius level intellects, but no one really acknowledges it or takes it seriously.
They both had weird aging outside of Sins of Youth.
Both were cloned by cruel people and their clones replace them so successfully they fooled their friends and family that the imposter was them.
Both at varying times had members of their respective families not believe in them and questioned their integrity, morality and ability to be a hero.
Both mutually shared trauma associated with Bart's first "death" on Apokolips that others in their team did not.
Both had their mentors 'die' while they were not present and had to have the news delivered to them after it already happened. For Bart this was Max, and for Kon it was Jim Harper.
Both were raised by elderly people.
Both for a good period of time lived in the same state just hours from each other.
Both essentially 'grew up' and changed their entire identities overnight which can be fairly read as an expression of deep depression.
They both died just within months of each other.
To counterpoint #5 they were both part of Tim's cloning adventures in present time and in a hypothetical future.
They were both erased from existence in the reboot, and both remembered each other and everything about the world before it rebooted.
As I mentioned before, the list above is not really mentioned between Kon and Bart in the comics, and they do not have any real conversations about how they share various trauma as comic narration tends to avoid characters hashing out feelings unless it is to serve growth that a writer wants to develop. However in a realistic scenario there is a strong likelihood that Kon and Bart would realize their commonality and feel kindred and comforted to know that there is someone else out there in the world that understands what they went through on a deep, personal level.
2.) Kon and Bart are FRIENDS outside of Young Justice and Teen Titans.
This is a bullet point that is a 'no duh' for all of them as each member of Young Justice/Teen Titans has been shown to be friends outside of beating the daylights out of bad guys, and many others have been shown to have deep bonds outside of 'work', but this point goes back to the introduction in that I feel a lot of people just have neglected to understand their friendship.
In their Young Justice days especially their friendship is unique and it is implied it started before the formation of team as Kon knew Bart's secret identity prior to the JLA: World Without Grown-Ups special.
Pre Young Justice/Early Friendship

Kon encourages Bart by name during the climax of their battle.
Throughout this special Kon refers to Bart casually by his first name and there is nowhere within this issue that seems to imply that Bart reveals this information during their team up. Kon knew his name beforehand which suggests either Bart told him, or he learned it second-hand from within the hero community.
Tim knows his name because of Batman.
This shows that there was a level of TRUST they had in each other even before the formation of Young Justice. To note, Kon does not learn Bart's name at all in Superboy and the Ravers #7 either when they first meet, so somewhere between then and the JLA: WWGU event Kon discovered or was told Bart's name.
Within this issue we see small crumbs that suggest Kon and Bart got to know a little bit about each other beforehand as there was some friendly teasing, banter and encouragement exchanged between them (even picking on Tim together).

Kon teases Bart and Bart remembers this for years afterwards, flipping it on Wally in his own series later.

Kon and Bart work together to win and are obnoxious about it, as they should be.
Also, when it came to Bedlam devising ways to defeat Tim, Kon and Bart by having each other imagine ways to kill one another, Kon was close enough by then to devise a way that was very specific and effective - by trapping Bart in a contraption that prevented him from moving at all.

Kon apologizes for imagining putting Bart into a restraining bench as his way to defeat him.
This again implies that Kon got to know enough about Bart to know what would cripple him in a fight; you can make an argument that he just thought it up on the spot basing it on first impressions, but if you read the issue entirely the implication still directs that they were friendly beforehand even if in the comics they had not interacted except for in Superboy and the Ravers #7.
The logical assumption is that Bart and Kon knew each other before this and were friendly.
Young Justice

Kon and Bart yet again tease and frustrate Tim together. This is reoccurring.
While they were in Young Justice we get to finally see their friendship really pick up because they finally had a comic series that they shared which meant they could grow and develop. Within this series we get to see them interact with each other in ways that are unique to them.

Kon and Bart will often play games together during down-time in Young Justice (also in Teen Titans), such as Chess where Bart proves to be more calm and collected about it than Kon is as a counterbalance.

Young Justice #31
By the middle part of Young Justice it is well established that Kon is Bart's go-to person for entertainment within their team as depicted in the above issue where Bart desperately tries to convince Kon to break from his television program to be with him. We can assume Bart's suggestions are things that they have done together before. What is also interesting to note is Bart is asking to do things with him as Bart Allen, not as Impulse.

Young Justice #53
To further solidify that they are close friends and interact in ways specific to them, Kon and Bart not only play traditional games, but they took the time to joke with each other to come up with a whole new game that has no winner, it's just interaction and fun. This sort of interaction is unique specifically to them as the others are not part of this behavior.
Teen Titans/2003-2011
By the time the Teen Titan years roll around they both have assumed new identities, one where Kon takes a step back into Conner Kent as an attempt to live more normally (something he's always wanted to do), and one where Bart takes up the Kid Flash mantle. They both experience changes in drastic (and sudden) ways, and even through some offensive writing and general character assassinations, they still are shown having a unique and intense bond specific to each other.
For the sake of pacing I am only going to explore a couple moments that stood out to me (this series is 100 issues long!) that show both of them being close emotionally as by now they are emotionally bound friends.
When Kon discovers that half his DNA came directly from Lex Luthor and was mind controlled to attack his friends, naturally everyone was trying their best to stop him.
Bart was ordered to "take him down" being the person in the best place to do so, and instead of going heavy handed Bart decided to try to reason with Kon instead.
Bart doesn't want to hurt Kon. And he refuses to do so at personal sacrifice to himself.

Teen Titans Volume 3 #25
Unfortunately Bart was not successful here but he tried very hard to reach him and appealed to who he knew Kon was at a deep level.
The important thing to note is during this wretched time in their tenure a lot of things happen; one of the main ones being them both dying within months of each other (one of their shared commonalities). Kon died first, and then Bart followed.
During Bart's funeral during Countdown #43 they play a video Bart recorded of himself basically wishing everyone well and encouraging them to not be sad that he was dead. However there are a couple moments that stand out...

In Bart's speech he is addressing everyone in his team, but he specifically mentions Kon in two key moments; he is addressing and speaking directly to Kon as if everything is well even though at this time Kon is dead.
Kon never got to hear this.
Bart and Kon by this point have solidified a strong bond where perhaps when Bart was thinking about making this recording he knew that Kon deserved a special acknowledgement to help him in his grieving process, which in the past Kon did not handle well in regards to Bart (I will explain below.) After Kon died Bart either didn't have the time to make a new video or just didn't want to revisit it again and left it as it was mentioning Kon regardless that he was not going to hear it.
Bart and Kon did not stay dead for long and eventually came back, once they did they had to deal with the aftermath of being dead together...
One of those aftermaths being Kon's relationship with Cassie had started to shift in ways that neither knew how to deal with, nor did they know why it was changing as both were dealing with personal stuff at the time. They are teenagers, after all.
In an attempt to try to get advice, Kon went specifically to Bart for help; not Tim, Gar, Cyborg or Clark or any other 'guy'. He saw Bart as someone he trusted and someone whose input he valued. There is a great level of trust they both have for each other as talking about relationships is a vulnerable and personal step.

Teen Titans Volume 3 #83
Ignore the bad writing on Cassie's part who in this for whatever reason thinks Bart won't respect her if he knows there are relationship issues, and implies that Kon is not allowed to ask for advice from one of their closest friends. Kon breaks up with Cassie a few issues later citing that he wants to give her space to focus on being a leader, and that he wants to retreat (further) into Conner Kent. This is a decision he made himself and it is unknown if he reached out to Bart again for advice.
While the outrageous events of TTv3 kept Kon and Bart extremely busy, we do still get hints that they still do things together outside of being heroes and Kon still reaches out to Bart for help.

Superboy 2011 #3
During this time in comics canon (2003-2011), Bart and Kon live only 4 hours away in the same state (Kansas). Bart being a speedster obviously can be right there with him nearly instantly no matter where he lives, but the closeness also opens more doors of familiarity between them and more relatability.
Kon reaches out to Bart for yet more help when he suggests to Bart to race him for charity so he can help the farmers in Smallville that lost a substantial amount of revenue. Bart gladly accepts and their race has some great FUN moments as they banter and talk about current events.

Kid Flash Lost #1
In one of the final comics of the pre-boot world Bart still references that he watches movies with Kon casually, specifically showcasing that even in a dystopian future where The Matrix is realized, Bart is thinking about Kon and everything they do together.
Bart and Kon are friends, and their friendship has been unwavering without a lapse in trust as both have been anchors for each other; no matter what happens, if the other is alive then it is a good day and they are likely going to be gravitating towards one another.
3.) Kon's breakdown over Bart's "death" and coma.
I don't really see a lot of people talk about this part of Kon's history (even from hardcore Kon fans) unless it is specifically from a Konbart shipping lens and I am not sure why, because everything about the two issue mental breakdown is heartbreaking just on its own with no shipping element added.
Also in one of the issues it implies that Kon has (while subconsciously) bi-curious feelings towards Bart.
The start of Kon's breakdown begins on Apokolips where they were stranded because he got in a fight with Tim and they crashed there. Because of that fight it led to all of them getting traumatized by Granny Goodness, but Bart suffered the worst when his own scout was killed in front of Cassie, Cissie, Kon and himself.

Impulse #77
As a result, Bart was comatose for weeks and up until he woke up no one knew if he would survive.
Kon took it extremely badly. Not only is he himself traumatized from having witnessed it viscerally, but he also blamed himself for it happening in the first place.

Superboy #91
Kon is writing a letter to Dr. Serling back home while he is still in space and the entire letter is... heartbreaking as he pens out his own grief and trauma in a personal way.
At this point in time, Kon has accepted that Bart is going to die. Kon has essentially lost all hope that Bart will recover and he blames himself entirely for it.
Even when he gets back to Earth in Superboy #92 he still is having PTSD symptoms from everything that happened on Apokolips and Bart is still at the forefront of his thoughts along with everything else that happened there...

Below is Kon's personal dialog that shows he has intrusive and frequent thoughts about Apokolips, in particular Bart dying and the Lobo clones dying.

The first two pages alone set the tone for the rest of the issue even if it takes a manic tone with a theme of Alice in Wonderland as a fever dream from hell. Before we get there though we are hit with two panels that are... interesting.

"Hey. Mrs. K., Got any apple pie in the fridge? Oh, one piece is fine. Impulse is in a stupid coma, so he won't -- Hold me? Tell me the war never happened? Pet my head?" - Kon-El
When you look at these two panels the first interpretation is that Kon is implying that Bart won't be around to hold him and pet his head.
The second interpretation is that Kon was going to say that Bart wasn't there to enjoy the pie (thus one piece was fine) and that he had a break in thought and was directing his desire for Martha to hold him and comfort him.
Either way you look at these panels and choose to interpret them it could go either way considering Kon's fragile mental state and how close of friends they were, and where his TWENTY HOUR dream takes him, it could really have been that he was wishing Bart would hold him.
That Kon wants Bart to be alive to comfort and balm the terror that he faced while on Apokolips.

So Bart's dressed as the White Rabbit (remember the title?) but not only that in Kon's own dream he has him make a reference to it being a Playboy Bunny Suit.
I'm just going to leave that there because nothing else can be said about it.

These particular panels have been floating around for ages without context and you don't need much other than to know that the other two are Cherub and Kon's dead girlfriend Tana Moon.
Tana was killed in the Sins of Youth arc by Amanda Spence specifically to hurt Kon.
Cherub was a clone created by Amanda Spence using Bart and Tana Moon's DNA. Amanda shot her in the head while Kon was having a heart-to-heart conversation with her, and as far as he knows she is dead at this point.
And then there is Bart who Kon has resigned multiple times is already dead despite the fact he is in a coma.
Two of the above were direct love interests that were hurt specifically because of Kon, to hurt him, and in his own dream Kon is placing Bart in with them as a person he loves who he is responsible for getting hurt.
The line that Kon might "secretly think of Impulse as a chick" is definitely skirting some lines of bi-coding, or at least getting as close to it as possible for a comic that was released in 2001 which was an incredibly homophobic era. Also it is fun to note that entire dream sequence is colored in bi-flag colors which was adopted in 1998, it was likely unintentional but you can take that as you will.
Kon's fever dream lasted twenty hours and after this issue he was back to "normal" and this breakdown is never mentioned again.
However considering that Bart's own "Death Video" in Countdown #43 had him talking specifically to Kon a couple of times, the two of them might have discussed what happened on Apokolips which led Bart to have the foresight to try to make things easier in a "Death is nothing at all, I'm only in the other room" sort of way. Because by then Bart knew that if he died, people would be upset. Kon extremely so.
4.) Kon helps Bart overcome his fear of using his scouts just by existing.
After the trauma-inducing terror that happened on Apokolips Bart himself was dealing with a bout of PTSD and he took a temporary absence from being Impulse and being a part of Young Justice.
To compliment Kon's own letter from Superboy #91 Bart claims that being Impulse "Isn't fun anymore" in mirrored trauma.
Bart eventually got to a point mentally where he found purpose being Impulse again, but he was extremely weary of using his scouts for obvious reasons.
Then the World Without Young Justice arc came and Bart was face-to-face with Matthew Stuart (Bedlam) who had been in a coma for two years and was out for revenge.
Using his own magical power he had found a way to force Bart into making scouts and he had them flung through time altering the timestream to a point where nothing looked familiar and Young Justice was... gone; the girls converted into villains, the boys were stripped of their powers and training as Kon was just a human teenager and Tim was just Tim Drake.
Bart was the only one who remembered them and it was up to him to stop Matt.
The problem was, he was petrified of absorbing his scouts back into himself because the last time one of his scouts died, he nearly died. Bart wasn't sure what would happen if he re-absorbed a dying scout, because he regains everything that scout experienced and felt while it was operating.

"That'll keep him... busy while... we make our escape..." - Bart
"'Escape?' You can barely stand and your other selves..." - Kon
"... Are dying. I've made too many... Their only chance... is to take 'em back into me. It's just... dunno what'll happen if I absorb a dying scout..." - Bart
"Look... Don't worry. You'll be okay. Why, you're one of the good guys." - Kon while touching Bart's shoulder.
"Uh... ...Here goes everythnnngghh!!" - Bart
"Wow... You okay?" - Kon
"No... But it's no biggie. We better head for Bedlam's Castle, back to Tim..." - Bart
At first glance this might seem inconsequential but Bart really was absolutely petrified of absorbing those scouts back, and he did so because Kon encouraged him, and because Kon in that moment was vulnerable and could be killed with almost no effort.
Bart overcame his fear and absorbed his scouts which had a consequence that wasn't outright shown but if you're well-read in The Flash you know what is going on.
Bart is pushing his own limits here, he is hurt, badly, and is dying himself but because he is a Speedster they never reveal this when it is happening. A speedster admitting something is wrong, but is 'no big deal' is code speak for "I'm going to die, so let's hurry up and save the day."
Bart's exhausted here and is likely going through some sort of molecular and emotional trauma as a result of absorbing his dying scouts, but Kon and all of Young Justice is worth it.
In the end, Bart recovers, saves the day and everything returns to normal... almost.
5.) The Emancipation of Bart Allen AKA Bart "broke reality" for Kon.
Kon was erased from existence with the N52 reboot and with Rebirth he was still no where to be found and no one seemed concerned about where Kon was despite the fact that the multiverse/reboots were very common knowledge among the heroes by then.
Bart (retroactively) was the only one who was shown to actively remember Kon due to his own imperviousness to time shifts and due to the fact that he was able to avoid being rebooted himself. Cassie mentioned remembering "everything about Young Justice" thus implying that she too likely remembered Kon, but Tim didn't remember him (or Young Justice) and needed Zatanna to help unlock the memories of his dear friend. Bart remembered Kon and actively took it upon himself to find him, and by extension Young Justice.
The entirety of Young Justice 2019 has a lot of great moments between Kon and Bart (Bart was relentless in his effort to find Kon, both times he went missing) but there is one key moment that sticks out.
Bart's explanation for what happened leading up to him "breaking things" to find Kon is a little mushy when it comes to continuity placement (Bendis tends to have mushy writing) but his desire to find Kon over everyone else is blatant.

Everything about this issue is charged with emotional depth between both Kon and Bart; from Bart's deep desire to find Kon and Kon's desire to help take care of Bart while he was vulnerable after passing out.

After passing out, Kon takes Bart to the woods and builds a fire for them. Kon also remembers that Bart loves Chocos (DC's version of Oreos) and nicked a whole pack from S.T.A.R. Labs for Bart specifically.
6.) Lightening Rod
As mentioned above Young Justice 2019 offered us a lot of moments between Kon and Bart that were suggestive and showcased that Bart is relentless when it comes to making sure Kon is safe, and that Young Justice is intact.
Each member of Young Justice is clearly a lightening rod for Bart as Speedsters can have more than one however there is evidence to suggest that Kon just may have a pull on him more than the others.

Young Justice 2019 #1
When Bart is zapped to Gemworld at the same time as everyone else he alone appears next to Kon, suggesting he is a lightening rod. Tim, Cassie, Jinny and Kelly were separated to other locations entirely.
The working theory building from what we know of Speedsters and their lighting rods, is that when Bart was finally put in proximity to Kon, Bart was immediately attracted to him like lightning strike to a tall building.
Once Bart was reunited with Kon, well, we get the famous hug scene under the backdrop of the bi-flag.

Young Justice 2019 #2 again, popular ships were started over much less.
Knowing what we know now of the depth Bart went through to find Kon and reunite Young Justice can you really blame him for not wanting to let him go?
The rest of YJ2019 has multiple other instances of them hugging, touching and Bart getting very persistent about making sure Kon is safe, which contributed to him passing out.
In Closing
When it comes to shipping, either as just friends or as romantic partners in some fashion, the evidence provided above gives groundwork for a ship that is based on trust, compassion for the other, emotional vulnerability through shared experiences and protectiveness of the other all with an air of playfulness.
Their affection is mutual and their desire to help each other, mourn each other and support each other is not one-sided as we see both of them do things for the other.
There is a lot of angst there, and there also is a lot playfulness with willingness to listen to each other if in the hands of a writer that understands their past history.
Kon and Bart are friends, first and foremost, and Konbart should not be a rare-pair or considered a ship with no basis as the basis has roots going back to 1995.

top 5 headcanons? Your own or just faves!
GREAT question so these are just the ones off the top of my head:
1. This headcanon for Mando teaching the kid sign language, and the kid communicating back
2. Not something I came up with, but I like the idea of Luke having permanent Force-lightning scars as a result of Palpatine using it on him in RotJ
3. Personal headcanon: I think Han Solo would have taken Leia’s last name when they got married: Han (at least in the movies) had no family ties to the name ‘Solo,’ it was the name the Imperial officer gave him when he enlisted in the military to escape Corellia. It’s the perfect description for a smuggler on his own who only thinks of himself and his ship (though eventually Chewie becomes a part of The Only Things Han Solo Cares About).
The most important thing about Han Solo’s character that I think many audiences and even official creators (INCLUDING GEORGE LUCAS SOMEHOW) seem to forget is that Han’s whole character arc is that he was NOT a good guy— He BECOMES a good guy. All of the tension surrounding him in the original trilogy is based on the fact Han Solo looks out for himself. His return at the end of A New Hope is predicated on the audience being surprised that he came back.
Each movie, there was no guarantee that he would stay or stick around when the going got tough. By the end of the trilogy, Han’s character arc has ended with him choosing to be a part of something bigger and caring for people beyond himself and beyond his circle of friends. Choosing to marry Leia means choosing to remain relatively sedentary and present for her (and by extension their family, friends, and the New Republic), and besides, what better way to throw people off the scent and protect yourself from your criminal past than by marrying into the royal and political-leading family?
TLDR: Han takes Leia’s last name after they’re married because he finally has a family he chooses to tie himself to.
4. Personal headcanon: Leia does not forgive Vader for what he became, regardless of whether Luke says he redeemed himself in the end.
Leia not only saw the war he led and the atrocities he committed her entire life, he enabled/directed the destruction of her entire home planet before her very eyes. Leia loves her brother, but she cannot reconcile what Luke says about Vader being a good person with the war criminal she knew him to be.
Bonus headcanon: I think in the sequel trilogy Leia should have been the one to see a vision of her son’s future and she should have been either the catalyst for Ben Solo leaving, or she should have been the one who said she saw too much of Vader in him as an adult and he had to be killed in order to be defeated, while Luke and Han should have been the ones trying to bring him back. Luke’s character in the original trilogy was defined by compassion and mercy even towards one of the worst people the galaxy had to offer, and Han’s character was defined by the people who didn’t give up on him and whose encouragement and support and willingness to see the good in him were the reasons he was able to become a good person.
5. Personal headcanon: I’ve had the idea since 2020 that Mando’s family on Aq Vetina were part of the Disciples of the Whills. I’ve liked the idea of Mando being connected in a non-Force-sensitive way to other lore surrounding the Force, and I’ve based it on the similarities in costume design and because I think thematically, the idea of exploring the Force through a different lens than the Jedi would have made a much more interesting and compelling story in what was originally a relatively independent TV show with new characters on a much smaller scale, exploring different parts of the galaxy.
How I understand the doctrine of the Whills is that it’s more trying to understand the direction of the Force as it tries to find balance in the world, and the result of those teachings means seeing how the Force working in others is what benefits people— In Rogue One Chirrut says “May the Force of others be with you,” which I’ve interpreted as “Yes the Force exists and has an impact on life and death, but because it is the connection binding every living thing together, it’s our choices and the actions we take and the connections we form that exhibit the Force, which are what will ultimately save us in the end.” Chirrut says “The Force protected me,” and Baze Malbus says “I protected you,” and they are both right.
In the context of The Mandalorian, I wanted to see what could have happened if the show diverged from the Jedi, who to be clear were a specific order of Force sensitive followers whose primary purpose was as protectors of the galaxy— The Jedi teachings weren’t just a belief system, they were combined with a martial art and specific learned abilities that were intended to be used to protect people. That doesn’t mean their way was the only way Force-sensitives interacted with the Force.
Long story short, I wanted Mando’s potential ties to a different part of Star Wars lore to be the gateway to exploring more of the galaxy that these stories were set in. I think it would have been a lot more interesting and would have freed up the story to go whatever direction it needed without being confined to the Jedi and prior source material

VOX and ALASTOR (in relation to other ships)
this is a long one, whoopsie. it gets a bit ramble-y - sorry if its hard to follow.
in the context of ships outside of radiostatic (namely voxvel and alastiel) i feel like its bad form to remove any and all instances of alastor and vox knowing each other prior for the sake of these other relationships. that being said im personally not a huge fan of pining/unrequited love, so ive been thinking about vox and alastors falling out through a non-sexual, non-traditionally romantic lens (but mostly non-sexual - calling something non-romantic is tricky because romance is so subjective. granted, so is sex, but its less so - maybe i should be saying non-erotic? eh, whatever).
thankfully, the situation works out to be just as potentially heartbreaking (if youre into that sort of thing). the angle im working from is that vox and alastor absolutely used to be Asshole Friends - cutthroat overlords and jovial rivals who absolutely made everyone elses lives around them miserable for their own amusement. after they both became aware that voxs power and influence was succeeding alastors own, vox offered him a partnership, and alastor refused.
usually what i see from fan content is that vox intends this "partnership" to be romantic and/or sexual, and alastor, wanting none of it, rebuffs him. vox is often depicted as a horny wet cat of a person, and while its funny, its not something i personally go for (in fact, one of my headcanons is that any relationship that vox may have with valentino is actually a coping mechanism for his hurt feelings, and is in no way indicative of how hed actually be with alastor in comparison to val). additionally, making vox super-horny and masochistic is sometimes used as a way to put vox in the wrong, either as a way to balance the argument or to have alastor be morally correct for dismissing him. while i like all three options, this version of events will definitely make vox look like more of an asshole, but dont worry - alastors no basket of roses either. he does his damage too, just to the wrong person.
in this instance im using themes of modernisation versus standardisation. my favourite version of alastor to play with mostly relates to his comic counterpart, and as part of that i like to imagine that he likes being "vintage" and doesnt consider this a detriment to his abilities as an overlord, even if hes not as influential as he once was. vox, meanwhile, comes from a mindset where progress and modernisation is everything. alastor is his friend - a business partner in everything but documentation, and he doesnt want to leave such an asset behind. he offers alastor the chance to team up, but that comes with the added caveat that alastor will have to start doing things voxs way, otherwise the plan wont work. hell have to give up the aesthetic and morals that make him "alastor".
how awful would that be - to be friends with someone who you truly enjoyed being with, without any sort of concern, only to have them so fundamentally misunderstand you as a person that all those years of closeness are spat back in your face? alastor, understandably, doesnt take this well at all, and venemously ends contact then and there. vox, also understandably, is angry and confused - alastor left him with little to no explanation as to why, and vox i dont think would understand why anyone wouldnt want to modernise eventually. vox may never have killed anyone, but hes in hell too - hes still his own brand of awful.
this eventually ties into alastor growing closer to zestial - i like to imagine that zestial has a soft spot for alastor (and potentially also sir pentious, who i like to imagine is the lowest-ranking overlord in hell) because, like him, he maintains pride in his origins and resists modernisation. zestial doesnt dislike vox (i dont think zestial outright dislikes anyone) and others of his ilk, but he doesnt really get why the afterlife should be associated with technological progress. but, thats a post for another time.

this took me a while because i had much to Ponder.....answers under the cut! snip snip ✂
7. What’s something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
see this is so hard because i am so used to biting and violence that i'm bad at praising fandom......um i like when people redesign kara's supersuit to look way better! i kind of hated both of her normal suits in the show LOL. (i liked her anti-kryptonite suit though, so, um, sorry brainy but maybe lena should design her next suit & you can keep designing for kelly cuz the guardian suit was nice as hell.) but there's lots of cool redesigns floating around the fandom. i also like fics that dive deep into her psychology and confront her flaws (since the show. didn't do that) or, alternatively, fics that explore a different version of her character with different flaws (e.g. anger issues) or a different relationship to krypton, its destruction, and her family.
for lena i think it's cute when people make fic/art where she turns into a little black cat. not sure how this got started/popularized but i like it. :) and similarly to kara i like when fics dig into her psychology and her backstory and explore her pain and anger and flaws in a nuanced way. particularly when said fics acknowledge that her anger at kara for the secret is justified regardless of the morality of any given thing she does about it.
8. What’s something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
ok going to attempt to talk about something i haven't complained about yet for both of them. umm well this is hardly unique to this fandom but i do think it's annoying when people Only interpret them through the lens of supercorp.* like yes, their relationship is an important part of the show and of both of their character arcs (...to the extent that kara has a character arc), but not all of their actions can or should be exclusively read as motivated by the other character or in relation to the other character. (i think people actually do this with lena more often than kara, which is not to say that people don't do this with kara, but with kara i also see people frequently reading her character from the lens of Her World Blew Up™ and not just "she's in love with lena". whereas lena i think quite often gets reduced to "she's in love with kara" even though if anything i think the show constructs her non-kara-related psychology and the way her non-kara-related backstory informs said psychology in a much more coherent way than they do kara's.) and i do ship sc but honestly their relationship becomes less interesting to me if i assume that all of their actions revolve around the other person lol. it actively improves the ship if they exist as independent characters. funny that.
*of course the flip side to this, which is an arguably even worse way to analyze the show, is people who dislike the ship insisting on downplaying the relationship's textual importance. i've seen people who dislike sc as a ship generate incredibly weak and bizarre analysis of both characters and of the show as a whole because they refuse to accept that kara and lena love each other in some way, that the kara/lena friendship is central to both characters' arcs, and, in the show's final two seasons, that their relationship is arguably the core emotional & thematic throughline of the show itself. so i'm certainly not advocating for ignoring or dismissing their relationship when you analyze the characters or show. that is also deeply annoying (perhaps even more annoying, since the people who do it often posture about not caring about shipping and thus being ~unbiased~ and ~objective~, which, lol). just, idk, don't ignore or dismiss other stuff either. Use Your Noggins.
15. What’s your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn’t matter if it’s canon or not.)
firstly i love the little disclaimer in this question...does this person think i've never been in a fandom before? but i would say my favorite for both is supercorp although guardiancorp is a close second for lena. for kara i think my second favorite would be superrojas but only as like a flirtation/fling, i can't imagine them settling into an actual romantic relationship lol.
16. What’s your least favorite ship for this character?
well not to beat a dead horse but kara/mon-el is truly awful. i've also gone over why i'm not a fan of supercat and i think the badness of kara/william kind of goes without saying. that said i realized i haven't yet kvetched about how inexplicably popular kara/alex is??? most egregious to me is the fics tagged with stuff like "oh it's actually not incest because one of them's an alien teehee 🤭" as if the problem with incest is shared DNA and not the power dynamics involved...like if you're gonna ship an incest ship say it with your chest bro. (also IIRC during s5 someone made an anti-lena post with a bunch of pictures of women from sg and the thesis of the post was like, these women would all be good girlfriend options for kara but lena wouldn't because she's ~abusive~ or whatever. but included among this group of good potential girlfriends for kara was alex which. Hm!)
as for lena i don't like lena/winn they're too similar and also i still hold a grudge against winn for his s1 nonsense lol. also whenever i see people shipping them i think about this post which always cracks me up so bad. [i don't like kara/winn either for obvious reasons but also i feel like no one really ships them? i could be wrong about that tho idk.] ummm some people also ship lena/mon-el and you know just as a blanket statement i think mon-el should stay away from women forever. oh and i think i've mentioned i don't vibe with agentcorp. just not my thing.

I've seen so many ARMYs mad and confused about JK talking non stop about Jimin during his lives. Jimin on the other hand never mentions JK (I mean recently). I really do not care even if they're married and have kids. But do you think it is safe for JK to draw so much attention to their possible relationship? I'm probably just paranoid, because SK is such a narrow minded country and what if something happens to them?

…kinda? I mean, for a lot of people, there’s a lot of daylight between talking a lot about your bandmate, gushing incessantly about a guy you’ve publicly called a dear friend for 10 years, and definitively coming out as being in a relationship with him. The reason I feel jikook are a thing is because of that quirk of that relationship plus a history of brow-raising behaviours that is most consistent with them relative to any other pairing.
But looking at it in isolation? Nah.
Some people might be confused because they feel JK’s behaviour with Jimin is unexpected, but most ARMYs I’ve seen already feel that jikook are very close (after hickeygate even the people most in denial about how close jikook are, had to rethink), and so they are more than happy to file away ‘JK fixating on Jimin during his lives recently’, into the ‘sus bro’ things jikook do without digging more into it, for whatever reason. JK can keep doing what he’s doing because most people in the fandom have determined that an official announcement or coming out is the threshold for allowing themselves to think of the members as being in relationships. Queer and not. It’s a bit silly, but I suppose in an effort to be respectful, people try to err on the side of caution by viewing all their actions through a kiddy, harmless, fraternal lens until explicitly told otherwise.
So yeah, I’d say you’re being kinda paranoid.
Then again, if you’re in a space where people are actually “mad” at Jungkook talking a lot about Jimin, then you’re probably in a space filled with solo stans / antis or rival shippers trying to mask, or homophobes looking for an outlet for that prejudice and anger. In which case, then I don’t think you’re being paranoid at all.
In fact, I’m nearly certain the second pattern you’ve noticed, of Jimin not mentioning JK to the same frequency (yet), only adds more salt to injury for them. Rival shippers and homophobes (especially closeted ones) are groups of people primed to see what we see, they just hate it. Lol. So JK going out of his way almost every Wlive to talk about Jimin or focus on him in some way, when the dominant narrative in rival shipping circles is that Jimin’s affection for JK is one-sided in the best case, or only fanservice in the worst - their narratives are being rubbished by the head joker himself. Effortlessly, spectacularly, and publicly rubbished to filth. Even the most delusional jikook anti has to feel a smidgen of embarrassment watching a JK live where he gushes about Jimin. It’s a shame these groups of people typically aren’t emotionally mature, because where a well-adjusted person would channel that embarrassment into rethinking their narratives, these groups of people seek only to lash out and punish the object of their obsession: Jimin.
And for the other Anon who asked me a few months ago about why taekookers/rival shippers and their solo stan peers are obsessed with Jimin, here’s your answer. Well, here’s one reason why:
They can tell Jimin is the obsession of the person they obsess over. They watch Jungkook too closely, too obsessively, to miss it. They can see how much Jungkook loves Jimin. And because they suffer from the illness of wanting a celebrity they obsess over to love them to the same degree, they hate the object receiving the love that in their minds is owed to them, or to someone they can easily self-insert as.
If you’re in a space filled with people like that I’m sorry to say but it’s a wasteland of lunacy. Get out. Flee. Pack up your skirts and run for the hills. Do it for your sanity, your hairline, and your internet service bills.
So yeah, there’s some risk people who are “mad” at JK, as you say, for talking about Jimin, could out them in a malicious detrimental way. You’re not paranoid about that. But I think that risk is small because people like this are ultimately cowards. Lol. They’re a bit insane yes but don’t have the guts to commit to doing any real damage outside of their tiny online spaces. what are your favorite martian fics? (or just f1 recs in general if you’d like?) i really love your take on the markseb dynamic!! the one snippet you posted is absoutely godtierrr hope u have a great night/day!
Hii aahhh!! Martian is such a great ship to write for because they inhabit this twilight zone where their undeniable chemistry and the conscious, continuous choice they made to love each other after everything makes them the pinnacle of all slow-burn romances.
Yet, when looking at their Red Bull years alone they are that's compelling because they are doomed from the start, the perfect narrative foils that distill each other into their raw components of ego and need and want. They make each other painfully human and that is not a good thing in this story.
Not to hype up a wip, but maybe my favourite project I'm currently working on is a martian fic set during the 2010 season that tells the story of Mark's ego death; brought under Red bull's institutional yoke and sacrificed upon the altar of Sebastian's championship ambitions.
It's also where that snippet comes from ;) So it's very encouraging to hear that you've liked what you've read thus far.

THIS!! GODDAMN!! FIC!! RAAAGGHHH! Not only is it my favourite martian fic, it is also one of my favourite fics I have ever read across the decade that I have been in fandom.
It's an a/b/o fic with alpha!seb and omega!mark in which Mark is forcefully brought back into the world of F1 after his retirement when Sebastian discovers that since Mark left, he has been hiding the child they conceived together the night of Mark's last race.
My summary doesn't do it justice but I swear on a god that I don't believe in that everything from the world-building to the development of Mark's and Seb's relationship as they find their way back to each other through years of misunderstanding and soceital decree is simply put, spectacular.
It just gets everything right for me and no matter how many times I reread it, I am just as enthralled as I was the first time.
I am also, as you will notice with my other recs, a major sucker for fics where Mark is one being looked after. Especially when Seb is being possessive about looking after him.

This is a really sweet non-linear imagining of Mark and Seb's relationship told from Seb's perspective as he spends a lifetime falling in love with Mark. It also handles the give and take of Sebastian's want for Mark and want for F1 success through the lens of Sebastian already knowing what he was going to do during Multi21, which adds a fascinating layer of complexity to examining how Seb might‘ve handled the fallout.

CATWS through a blackhill lens
part 1: Fury’s “death”
before i get into this is just wanna say that these are just my headcanons, when i have a non canon ship i like to find a way to ship them that allows me to still enjoy the canon story meaning i often find a way around the story that we get, this means that with blackhill i have to find a way around nat and steve, nat and bruce, but most importantly, the undeniable tension between nat and maria in catws, if you don’t like blackhill or disagree with this that’s fine, just don’t read
in my headcanon nat and maria get together during their shield days, maybe even before we first meet nat in iron man 2, i believe they're going strong during avengers and their relationship is tested during catws which i will discuss in these posts
there's a lot happening in catws and blackhill wise i think it's by far the most interesting movie, i'll be discussing several scenes but this post is about fury's "death"

when the scene where fury is in surgery starts we see nat and steve looking into the operating room (i won't be discussing how weird it is that they can do that), steve is already there and nat joins him in the room, on the left we can see maria on the phone

pretty soon maria joins nat and steve, she looks into the operating room for a second, the three of them briefly discuss what happened which leads to my favorite canon blackhill moment, nat guesses the bullets that were used to shoot fury are soviet made and maria confirms this by simply saying "yeah", now this doesn't sound like anything interesting but i recommend ya’ll to rewatch this scene cause the way she says it is just so so soft, with the way she says this one simple word maria is trying to say "i'm here for you, i know this is hard, this isn't your fault, you did everything you could, it's gonna be okay, i love you" because she can't say those actual words, she cant hold nat's hand and hug her an let her fall apart against her, neither of them want that, both because there's other people there and because nat isn't ready to feel her feelings like that just yet, she doesn't want to accept this and she doesn't want to acknowledge her grief, maria knows this
maria also knows better than anyone what fury meant to nat, he was (is) the closest thing nat had to a father and at this point he’s one of the very few people that know about her relationship with maria, maria knows losing fury would mean losing a family member, knowing what it means to nat and also losing someone very important herself we can tell that maria is extremely emotional, i have to say that to me it isn't clear whether maria knows fury's death is fake at this point but considering her reaction i don't think she knows, maria is a good liar but nobody can act that well

after the doctors call time of death steve walks away (it's important to note there are still a few people standing behind maria and nat, at no point are they alone during this scene), we get these two shots of just maria and nat that i am absolutely in love with, the first is of both of them still looking into the o.r. we can tell both of them are absolutely distraught, as i said before fury meant a lot to them both as individuals and to their relationship, nat is absolutely speechless which doesn't happen often and our “hardass hill" has a red nose from stress and crying, if you rewatch the scene you can even see maria’s lip quivering

in the second shot we see maria leaning against the windowsill in front of them, i interpret this is her offering her hand in case nat wants to take it, you can see her left hand is at shoulder width while the right hand reaches towards nat, she would never take nat's hand in front of coworkers without asking and she also wants to give nat space which we will later learn she needs a lot, but she wants to offer that comfort to natasha regardless, maria taps her finger a few times to draw nat’s attention to her hand and to tell her she can hold it if she needs to, after a few second natasha still doens't take maria's hand, it’s too much, too soft, there’s too many people there, she simply can’t

in the next scene we see nat saying goodbye to fury with steve standing in the back, again it start with the two of them and then maria enters the scene, she tells steve that she needs to take fury's body, by saying this she implies she wants steve to tell nat it's time, we don't know if maria and nat talked in between these scenes but i don't think they did, i believe their relationship started to slip after new york and fury's "death" was the final drop, there's so much strain on their relationship and they're both going through so much that at this point they're feeling more distant from each other than they have in years, natasha shuts herself off and puts her walls back up that maria spent years breaking down, they're scared that if they talk about what's going on they'll either break down and lose sight of the mission or lose each other, so they don't talk at all

again we see maria more emotional than we have ever seen or will ever see her, after a few second steve goes to get nat

and then this last shot i'll talk about is also the most heartbreaking to me, i can't imagine how heartwrenching is must be for maria to not be able to comfort nat in this situation and have to see someone else try to do this, deep down she wants to wrap nat in her arms and let both nat and herself break down but neither of them have time for that so instead she watches the love of her life lose one of the most important people to her and be comforted by her new friend that they barely know, first she looks at them, then she simply can't bare it anymore and looks away, she can't look at fury's body, she can't look at natasha's heartbroken expression and she can't look at steve standing in the spot she should be in, so she looks away

finally nat walks away and maria can't resist, she glances towards nat, she has to look at her, one second of eye contact will tell her enough, will nat leave forever or will she come back to her, will she feel her feelings or will she focus too much on the mission and self destruct, will she dissapear or will she break her old pattern, nat doesn't look up, so maria never finds out what she needs to know, and more importantly, she doesn't get to look into nat's eyes which is the only thing that could bring her the slightest bit of comfort and ease

Hi!
I feel the need to make one of those intro posts because recently a few blogs started following me that seem to be more into the fanon interpretation of things, and I don't want anybody to get the wrong ideas about what to expect from this blog.
About me... I'm 29, she/her, pan/bi (I don't care which label), and demi (my, it took me so long to figure that out).. I used to be a judge but dropped out because of a myriad of reasons but mainly because of... well, depression. I cannot, for the life of me, remember how many letters there are in the alphabet, I love carrots but they make me nauseous, and my socks always have holes.
So... let's move to the important stuff.. JK sucks, and parts of the canon suck too - like the house elf stuff and her naming "skills" which are very telling, her fat shaming, and the anti-trans shit that is even written into the original source material. But for the most part, the characterization isn't one of them. So on this blog, I will defend the canon version of characters, flaws and all.
To make myself clear: hc characters as trans and writing characters as gay etc is great and I fully support that. What I mind, however, is the heteronormative, mysoginistic cliches we keep seeing under the guise of 'progressive' queer ships. If you not only change their gender or their height but also their personalities so that they fit heteronormative stereotypes that's problematic. Same goes for the casual racism going on in this fandom. Portraying non-white people as huge, buff guys with anger-issues is - you guessed it - problematic!
What to expect from this blog:
Me applauding the many great people out there. Do you even know how great you are???
Me geeking out, especially about the characters and ships I love most (and sometimes writing/sharing anti-posts about my own favs when I'm too fed up with the fanon version of them).
Me writing long-ass metas at two in the morning because that one post was the final straw.
Me brain-vomiting stuff into the void of the internet that really no one asked for and no one cares about.
Me ranting and contradicting myself.
Nuance - or at least, I try. But I'm just a person with biases, and I read the books through the lens of my own experiences, so yeah. And of course there's always a range, even when sticking to canon.
(I say I care about nuance, but you'll find me swaying to full-force apologetism the next second - get used to it, I'm a hypocrite).
Some writing. I shared some microfics/one-shots already (soulmate microfic, over 30 microfic, fix it one-shot, wolfstar raising Harry one-shot (sort of), drabble collection), but I'm working on a long wolfstar fic starting in 1971 and carrying all the way through to 1998. It's solely from Remus' s POV and I'm trying to pay attention to everything (!) in canon so that it makes sense with all the scenes we see in the books - although I wouldn't call wolfstar canon. I think itl'l be around 900k-1 million words in the end. Right now I'm at 950k but I need to add stuff, cut stuff and just generally work through it. I plan on starting to post it before I turn 30 (which will be in mid-December).
Remus/Sirius will always be my OTP, and I've made a post about why I think they make sense even from a canon perspective and with their canon personalities (not saying they are canon, but don't tell me I haven't read the books). But I do feel the need to point out that I disagree with most of the depictions I see nowadays in this fandom as the characters I fell in love with are barely recognoizable. I prefer post-PoA wolfstar (or AUs), but I think Hogwarts wolfstar can work. It's just indefinitely more difficult to make it work with their canon personalities. Btw, me loving wolfstar doesn't mean I negate the co-dependency James and Sirius have going on - which is obviously canon. I also love James and Sirius so much.
As for other ships... I love Scorbus, Jily, Hinny, Romione and Grindelore. And I love a whole bunch of characters regardless of any ships, including but not limited to Ron, Dumbledore, Ginny, Fleur, Luna, McGonagall, Hermione and Scorpius. And I'm not anti Tonks - I'm just anti Remadora because I think they both deserve better. But it is what it is, jk wrote that and for what it's worth I do think Remus loved her in some way.
I can get very passionate about fictional characters, but I'm an adult, and I know they're fictional. And I believe I can take criticism, so if there's anything on your mind...
It's always my personal opinion I'm talking about; I don't think I'm some kind of hp authority, but that goes without saying.
What not to expect from this blog:
Art (I reblog, of course, but you don't want me to draw, believe me).
Dumbledore hate / Remus hate (don't confuse with criticism, I'm all for criticism). No ATYD hate either. I have my issues with it, but it's not the author's fault it has become the fandom's new rulebook.
Me dumbing down James and Sirius, etc.
Me abandoning James and Peter. But, sorry not sorry (and wolfstar aside), I will keep pushing my "Remus and Sirius were close friends at Hogwarts" agenda (but as were Remus and James, obviously, and Remus and Peter, and so on, with James and Sirius being inseparable).
Jegulus/Slytherin skittles stuff. If that's your thing, that's fine, but it isn't mine.

Most important information for last, right? If I speak ill about Remus, it is always with the most love possible. I keep saying Sirius is my favorite character, but he has a lot of fans out there, and avoidant, self-loathing, passive-aggressive, manipulative, ruthless, but also smart, brave, kind, loyal, empathetic, thoughtful and selfless (yes, you read that correctly) Remus holds a special place in my heart.

I got some random thoughts jumbling around right now that I'm not sure how much of a point I have
I'm the first person to tell you that a fandom lens is a fully legitimate way to engage with a text but if you're talking about watching a non-romance "looking for something to ship" as if that's all you're watching it for I'm still gonna side eye you juuuust a bit
there's a difference between a headcanon and an interpretation of the text. You can have headcanons that COME from your interpretation of the text though. If I say I interpret a character as some form of queer or neurodivergent that's a little different from saying I headcanon them that way. I don't have a specific point about it just that sometimes I've noticed people don't seem to know the difference.
(You can also interpret a pair of characters as being in a particular relationship without shipping it. I do this all the time. There are series I engage in where I'll literally tell you "well it's pretty clear to me that these two characters are meant to be in X relationship but I ship this other thing." This is fine and normal.)
I think when it comes to visual mediums some people assume something isn't textual unless it's in dialogue. This is a mistake; if, for example, the artist depicts a character clearly thinking about a traumatic event when presented with something only tangentially related, that character textually is having a post traumatic flashback. It's not subtext at that point, the medium is just using its own language to tell you this, directly.
(Yes, I see people call this exact device "subtext." A lot.)
That said sometimes you are in fact meant to read between the lines. I've been avoiding bringing up specific examples but I'm kind of stunned that on the TV tropes pages for Octopath 2 someone even brought up the not-quite-joke in which someone tries to seduce the cleric by suggesting he "sheathe his staff" and yet somehow nobody took his reaction ("staves don't need sheathes") as the extremely clear queer subtext that it was?
Like that's fucking amazing to me, back in the 90s that would have just been seen as an explicit confirmation the character was gay.
(Yes I know that game is full of lesbians. The cleric is also shown flirting relentlessly with another male character. This is ALSO nearly text at that point as opposed to subtext.)
Anyway idk something something visual media having something be "textual" isn't about it being stated in dialogue and also if you're looking for things to ship you maybe should try actually reading romance genre stories a little more often like I didn't used to think I liked romance either but you'd be surprised what you find when you actually dig through a genre past the grocery store bookshelves

it really is interesting just how much V4 shows of the grimm that blatantly contradicts what we’re told about them during the beacon arc. right out the gate, too, with bricks and complex improvisational teamwork and the beringel’s emotive reactions to its apparent victory and then realization that its opponent survived the fall through the roof all in the V4 short. everything we learn about the grimm in V1-3 comes filtered through huntsmen academy pedagogy and in the first two volumes every significant direct encounter occurs in proximity—whether diegetic or narrative—to a character who explains them authoritatively using the huntsmen model: pyrrha’s philosophical recitation on the nature of the soul and what makes grimm soulless gives context to the initiation, port describes the grimm as demonic monsters before setting one loose in class, oobleck helpfully provides dollops of exposition to fit the grimm of mountain glenn into the framework laid out in V1. by V3, we have a handle on what these creatures are and the onslaught against beacon plays out—almost—exactly as we would expect based on this understanding, with the singular exception that the grimm are clearly shown to be acting as allies to the non-grimm adversaries. (the white fang transports their own fighters and grimm side-by-side without coming to any harm, and cinder speaks to, makes eye contact with, and signals for an assist from the wyvern.) and the narrative reveals salem at the very, very end to imply an explanation for that singular anomaly.
but… beacon falls. in V4 the school environment is gone and we begin to encounter the grimm outside the controlled pedagogical environment of the huntsmen academy and like IMMEDIATELY the narrative starts throwing curveballs. a beowolf gets up on a roof to throw bricks at ruby. the beringel grabs a beowolf and they flawlessly execute a maneuver we’d call a team attack if a duo of huntsmen did it; later the beringel roars in satisfaction when it thinks ruby is beaten and then reacts with surprise and trepidation when it realizes she isn’t. the villagers in V4 shrug off weeks of provocations by a grimm four young huntresses and huntsmen struggled to defeat. jaune looks at the bodies strewn across the wreckage of shion and asks “who killed all these people,” indicating that “the grimm” is not a foregone conclusion—and the answer turns out to be not grimm but bandits. the sea feilong spends an entire day quietly circling beneath the boat, unnoticed, then reveals herself but doesn’t really do anything except roar and snap once at the huntress who shot her while looping over and around the boat itself—never making contact or actually attacking until after she has been fired on and hit repeatedly, and even then focusing her retaliation narrowly on the ship’s weaponry and the huntsmen attacking her. (the WOR ep notes that grimm are territorial; they don’t prey on animals but violent altercations over territory are not uncommon. what we see in 4.3 isn’t a grimm attack. it’s a territorial threat display that escalates because nobody on the boat can tell the difference between a grimm saying “LEAVE” vs one who wants to eat them.) and on the exact opposite end of the spectrum, the nuckelavee has a nest decorated with trophies it’s collected across a decade or more of haunting its neck of the woods: neither a mindless killer nor a powerful old giant with caution borne of self-preservation but an intelligent being who plagued this small region for years out of what seems to be active malice.
over and over and over again, V4 showcases grimm individuality and refutes the huntsmen academy understanding of what these creatures are and why they act as they do. and of course if you watch V1-3 again with the knowledge that the pedagogical lens is limited and inaccurate you’ll notice the small inconsistencies between what is said and what is shown: the ursai yang faces react to her rapid shift in mood with obvious confusion. the deathstalker dodges jaune’s attempts to grab its stinger several times before it either gets bored with the game or isn’t quick enough and rouses itself because it doesn’t like being grabbed. the grimm in mountain glenn know the kids are encamped in the ruin (ruby makes direct eye contact with one through her scope) but ignore their presence in favor of nosing around the ruins. none of the complexity that appears in V4 is really new: it’s just presented plainly, without commentary by an authority figure to elide everything that doesn’t fit inside the clear-cut, morally simplistic huntsmen academy stance that grimm are just an endless horde of soulless evil. and that transition occurs instantly, the minute the narrative leaves the confines of the academy setting.
it’s a neat storytelling choice. hello, welcome to the real world, the grimm are fundamentally just Creatures. they feel pain, and fear. they’re social beings. they’re smart. they aren’t all the same: some of them would prefer not to fight and need to be pushed really far before they’ll resort to violent retaliation and others hunt people for sport. and sometimes they’re not overwhelming existential threats; sometimes they’re just a chronic nuisance bad enough to make you wonder if moving is worth it.

Time for strange thoughts part 2! As a fan of both The Inheritance Games and The Selection, it’s safe to say I’ve been on both ends of the shipping spectrum. I ship Avery and Jameson in The Inheritance Games but long before I read this series, I read The Selection and fell in love with America and Maxon’s love story. After finishing both, I’ve come to the realization of how one might view the love interests from these two fandoms and it just makes me laugh because through the lens of The Selection, Jameson would be viewed as Aspen (but I actually sincerely disliked that guy, he was such an unnecessary character in the love story [literally the love triangle was non-existent, he was just there as a booty call for America when she was being indecisive which was literally every other sentence]) while Maxon would be Grayson through the view of The Inheritance Games. But quite honestly, when you look at the two fandoms, those who ship Asperica are basically mythical creatures because it feels like everyone was just vying for America to make up her stupid mind about Maxon and to make Maxerica happen, yet, in the case of the Inheritance Games, Averyjameson and Averygrayson fans seem to be on a more even playing field but I guess that’s what happens when there’s nothing more Hawthorne than winning!
