I really can't see Shouto as anything other than a prince in a fantasy AU

but the kind of prince who hates his role, wishes he could run away and live a normal life

He became the heir of his kingdom after his oldest brother had a huge breakdown, tried setting as much of the castle as he could on fire, and ran off to another kingdom. Then, his other brother married a princess from another kingdom, deciding to join her family rather than make her join his. These actions caused both brothers to be disowned by the King, leaving Shouto as the new heir.

You were a thief of sorts, and after a whole scenario where in attempting to steal something valuable from Shouto he agreed to give it to you only if you took him with you wherever you were going, and you decided it was the easiest course of events, and you could ditch him later

Except, you didnt ditch him. Unknowingly, he used his pretty face to convince you to keep him around and teach him how to defend himself and steal

Months of days and nights alone together in the forests, traveling through towns, surviving with each other and living lavishly as criminals drew the two of you insanely close, until a night mixed with a little too much alcohol helped some feelings become exposed

Shouto very quickly learned to care for you, even though your meeting was random and him tagging along was clearly unwanted on your part, you saved him from a life he didn't want, and youve shown him more than he ever could have hoped for before. Especially as you become softer and more trusting of him, he came to love you

you really considered selling him back to his kingdom for a while, but you noticed how your heart fluttered seeing this spoiled mans smiles even as you trudged around as dirty criminals

the thought of living as royalty disgusted you, but you never thought someone as lucky as him would choose your life over the one he was given

going back, eventually you do end up together, and this is the only time that shouto ever considers going back. he loves his life now, and he knows you do too, but he also knows its dangerous and as King, he could make sure you were always safe and happy. Except he knew you wouldn't be happy in a castle, you needed the world to explore. So he never did go home

He's never been in a relationship before, and his examples of relationships are scarce and not good. His mother's fear of his father alone told him that he should at least never become like his father

He relies more on his instincts with you, and he acts how he pleases. If he wants to touch you, he does. If he wants to kiss you, he does. He's not shy at all, and can be very blunt with you

He likes taking care of you, hes used to being pampered so he feels like he doesn't deserve it when you pamper him, but he knows youve had a hard life and he wants you to feel comfortable.

He gets playfully annoyed when you bring up his royal status, such as calling him your highness and such

He's incredibly smart, and he learns very quickly, so sometimes youre surprised to find him teaching you something.

He hopes that you two can earn enough money to one day move far away where no one would even slightly recognize your faces, and you can live a normal life

He does want a family one day. Even if you cant naturally have kids, there's plenty of kids living in the streets in the towns you go to, you could just take a couple for yourself.

He is insanely naive when it comes to sexual things. He knows what sex is, but only in very scientific terms. He knows it as how someone has a baby, but the idea of it being for pleasure is somewhat foreign to him.

So when you two reach a point of making your relationship sexual, he is (happily) surprised

Youd take the lead in the beginning, but again, he loves to pamper you, so once he knows what hes doing he loves pleasuring you non stop

Im ngl for a while after your first time, you two would fuck like bunnies. He wants to experiment, and he also loves feeling close to you in a way he didn't know possible

Aftercare is very important with him as well even if he isnt aware of him doing so. If he gets rough he massages your body, he helps clean you up, he tells you he loves you and how beautiful you are, he makes sure that you eat.

Honestly, while there are definitely some things Shouto is completely confused about outside of his princely life, he has never once seemed negative about it. For a spoiled prince, he acts so humble and appreciative of everything, and he is always willing to go outside of his comfort zone - this is one of the things that you love about him

HI IM like... fixating on ur hybrid au rn so I apologize for the influx of hybrid asks (if they get annoying, feel free to just delete idm!!) 😭 but I really adore the thought and consideration you put into world building !! I belive u enjoy world building from some previous asks of the academy au, so I think it's really nice to see u so consistent with world building across multiple au's !! although there's only one part of the hybrid au rn, I'm excited to learn more about the estate that mc and their hybrids live at !! like wooow their backyard and gardens must be massive considering they turned a portion of it into something that resembled kazuha's homeland, and there must be a big lake nearby since the other hybrids sometimes gets rocks to show to mc and aether !! (I wonder if that's a hint for maybe some aquatic hybrids.. hmm?) and the fact mc seems so estranged from social civilization must imply that they live in a very remote location with lots of space and little interaction. (and perhaps that could also explain why the boys were wary of kuni when he first showed up.. bc who would come to a remote location and ask for shelter??)

I did have one question though, since there is a loooot of genshin boys to be added, I'm curious about how the living situation works? room-wise, I mean. is our mc's villa THAT big that each hybrid can have a room to claim as theirs and sleep comfortably (or maybe they have to share with one another hejehdje BUT its also possible they just take turns sleeping with mc lol) or did mc perhaps have to build extensions to their main villa or even separate, mini houses entirely, to accommodate for the many hybrids (also, I wonder if any of their rooms have special features that cater specifically to their hybrid forms?)

ooh and another thing!! while I'm sure most of the boys' obsession with mc and their yandere tendencies started to become more prominent after living with mc, I also find it interesting how multiple of them stalked watched mc for a little while before making themselves known and asking to take part in actually living with them !!

and on a more minor note, as im sure it doesn't contribute much to the actual story, I am partially curious as to what mc's family do and why they're such a target for competition and sabotage :o

(sorry if this is a lot (╥﹏╥) I got a little enthusiastic about it, and seeing that you're kind of active I figured I'd ramble :P)

mc's mansion is situated upon a hill and its surrounding land. it's big enough to be almost considered a villa, and it's legally under their father's name. it was built when they were younger, think 12 or 13, after the father realizes what an easy target mc could be if he let them live in the city. it used to be just one building with a small lake at the back, but as more hybrids came, the more renovations happened. mc had the head butler submit these requests to their father, and since money isn't an issue, these came easily.

the hybrids don't actually have an officiated claimed room to them. most of them don't have their own things, so there's no real need to store things. only the rather picky ones have claimed a bedroom to themselves, much preferring a bed to their natural habitat.

ayato, for example, has picked out a room to himself and has lived there ever since neuvillette moved into the lake. he actually much prefers it that way, although it's a bit of a shame since he was the first inhabitant of the lake.

other hybrids that sleep in rooms are zhongli and xiao, who sleep in his office. aether, who sleeps with you. scara and haitham, who are often found in the library. albedo and occassionally tighnari, who decided it would be much more efficient if they just slept in the lab.

kazuha is usually found sleeping in a tree found in the part of the garden that you renovated for him. the first tree that you met him in, actually. the other hybrids sleep like this. they pick out a part of the mansion where they feel most comfortable in and sleep there. the avian hybrids (minus scara) have made themselves comfortable in high places, the lake is obviously home to the aquatic hybrids, and the garden is home to hybrids like foxes, dogs, etc.

there's only one room that's been renovated specifically for your hybrids, and it's a cold room underground that replicates the arctic. it's for your ice-affiliated hybrids! after the head maid had found them snoozing in the kitchen near— even in!— the fridge, she chased them out. out of pity, you decided to submit a renovation request to make them an icy room. it's a lot of electricity, but it also doubles as an ice storage room that you guys sell to the village below as well as a storage room for the scientists' experiments.

lastly, mc's family is the owner of many corporations under one company. think of the chaebols in korea. they're that powerful. mc's father is the ceo, so you can imagine how knee deep he is in corruption and complicated entanglements.

Once again, this is @pillowspace's AU that I'm kinda going AWOL with. I just want to make something a little more cheerful after leaving Y/N struggling to get home last night.

Clone AU is being a bit prickly, but I think that's mostly cause I want to draw for it rn and I'm still in the throes of color separations whenever I have a spare moment on my tablet. But that'll be done soonish I think? By the end of the week for sure because I need to start making my mylar sheets soon.

Time Loop whump fic will likely be pecked away at throughout the day to deal with school stress. This is just a quick palette cleanser since to me HD Y/N is a bit in the middle personality-wise.

TL is a lot more extraverted and kind, and Clone is the one most likely to cause the DCA to experience the first animatronic heart attack if they ever spoke because every other word would be fuck. HD is one of those people who recognizes the struggle they're in, but they can also find the good moments and appreciate them all the more while giving the bird to everything making life actively harder for them and their little brother.

"You sure you're fine." Gretchen sounds doubtful, but you smile and keep working.

"Positive. Look, nothing really happened in the grand scheme of things, right? I'm not hurt."

"Your hand is bruised, and you had to cancel your cards," Gretchen says, and to prove a point, she grabs your hand.

You flinch, pulling back. "I made it home in one piece and nothing really valuable got stolen," you reply archly, shoving the last of the books towards your friend. "Go put these away. I need to check the computer room to make sure no one needs help."

"This conversation isn't over," Gretchen warns, even as she pushes the cart away. The library is fairly quiet at this point in the day, early in the afternoon, before school is let out and you all get inundated with kids and teens looking to kill a couple hours before their parents get home. It's the perfect time to make sure everything is clean and ready for kids to play.

The computer room is actually pretty quiet, though there is one brightly colored splotch of a person in the corner. You can hear them tapping slowly at the keyboard as you check each computer, wiping things down and logging out of a couple accounts. Eventually, you've made it to the corner with the stranger, struck by just how tall they are.

"Is everything all right?" you ask brightly.

"O-oh!" The stranger is clearly startled, so you take an extra step back, just for safety. "Yes, sorry. I think we, I, signed up for an hour? Has time. passed that fast?"

"No, sorry. There's a timer in the corner, here." You tap at the monitor helpfully. "I didn't mean to confuse you. I just wanted to know if you needed any help."

The stranger doesn't reply, instead fidgeting with what you're guessing is a scarf around their face. "Is your hand okay?" They ask, and you quickly withdraw it, tucking it close to your chest. "I don't mean to pry. It just looks painful."

"Ah, well." You grimace, remembering that Gretchen is going to be on you the moment she's done with her returns. It's easier to hide in the computer room, and besides, what's the likelihood this stranger will talk to her? You decide to sit, still achey from last night and exhausted from a lack of sleep. "I was mugged last night."

"You were what?" The horror in their voice is less grating than it was with your friend, and when you smile, it just feels tired, not forced. "You can't possibly be okay after that!"

"I kind of have to be. It's making some of my duties today a little harder though. I can't exactly balance heavy boxes with this hand, and my coworkers are sweet, but if I don't do my work, I think they're going to send me home." You curl and uncurl your hand slowly, biting the inside of your cheek to keep from grimacing. "And I need the money, so. Here we are, you know?"

"Here we are," they agree, a bit distractedly. They pecked at the computer a little longer, apparently thinking as they suddenly turn back to you. "I can help you move those boxes. I-if you'd like I mean."

"Oh?" You pause, thinking. "Oh, uh. Sure! If you're sure that is. I --- yeah, it'd be really helpful, but you don't have to. You signed up for the computer and oh fuck, I've just started spilling my guts out to you."

They flinch when you curse, muttering something in the middle of your rambling before holding up one gloved (gloves indoors?) hand. "It's all right. We, I, like to help. Just point us in the right direction."

"Okay," you saw, drawing the word out until it's more a sound than a word. "You can help this time. But I'm going to have to do something in return."

"That's not really---"

"Nuh uh," you interrupt, wagging a finger (from the unbruised hand), in front of their face. "Fair's fair, and if you're helping me, I'm helping you. Consider this a rain check."

"Fine," they say, turning to log out of the computer. When they stand, you feel very, very small. "Lead the way, Mx. Librarian."

"That's Librarian Clerk to you," you say, a little teasingly. You do take point, walking through the library to where you and Gretchen had packed away the Halloween decorations. "And what do I call you?"

"Sun," they say, and they take the first of three boxes without so much as a grunt of exertion. Tall and strong. If you were a lesser person, you would be jealous. Maybe you are anyway.

"Sun," you repeat, and it's an unusual name for this unusual not-quite-a-stranger. You lead them towards the back, fiddling with your keys to find the one for the storage closet. "It's very nice to meet you."

My dad cornered me with "a serious talk" after I offhandedly mentioned how sick medication withdrawal is making me and was basically a total asshat again

He thinks I'm "chemically dependant" and that there's "no reason I should be anxious because I have a good life" and I had to lie through my teeth to say no he is not a huge part of the problem and no I've never been suicidal.

He wants me off all my meds because it shocked him with how much weight I've gained since going on them (I've told him time and time again how sensitive I am about my weight but he keeps fucking bringing it up how disgusting I am at my current size and how I'm gonna forever be unhealthy even if I lose some weight)

He is pissed at me and my mom for putting me on adhd meds because of his bad experience with them even though I'm not even on the kind he was on literally 40 years ago and the ones I'm on aren't even causing side effects other than, y'know, the ability to focus on my job and hobbies

He blames my meds for my poor performance in college (back when I was switching majors because chemistry was too stressful) instead of them being the only think that would get me out of bed and keep me from hurting myself every time I made a minor mistake

I realize the meds aren't ideal rn but they served their purpose extremely well when I really needed them and I appreciate all they've done for me and am ready to taper down or off them entirely on my own with help from my doctor

But jesus christ my dad talks like I'm addicted to hard drugs and like I am poisoning my life by seeking medical help for my adhd and ocd. He never understood that ocd and adhd are just things that a person has that can't be controlled in the sense that I didn't ask for them and nothing triggered them they're just how my brain manifests.

He also slammed into me about not having my driver's license again and used that as an example of how I'm so "dependent" on other people and also said I don't have tools to deal with my mental health normally and that I should stop going to therapy and deal with my issues alone instead of "spending money to be dependent on someone else"

Fucking god sakes why do I even tell my dad anything about my life anymore because as soon as I'm like "oh I might be struggling with xyz" it's suddenly all my fault and time for him to say I need to just follow his 100% real and true suggestions for the key to a better life. I'm not surprised this is how he's acting but it sure never fails to shock me how little he understands about my life

Always asks your boundaries on things, even if it takes hours for you to list them or explain them in great detail, he’s willing to listen just for you

He’d even have a note in his notes app writing down everything he needs to know

If you have therapy he goes with you to all of the sessions unless you ask him not to

Always keeping you updated on where he is

Never leaves the house without telling you first at at least leaving a note

How does the Battle Nexus work? Like would they be fighting creatures or would it be more like fighting other people? Is it always to the death?

I was holding off on answering this- because I have not thought about that at all hehe...

I think that the Battle Nexus would work in that there would be both fighting of creatures and other people. It would be mostly to the death.

I'm putting on my business cap rn to think like Big Mama. I'm just gonna make up how the Battle Nexus works... but I'm gonna try to make it logical and cost efficient.

So: I think that to have only fights to the death wouldn't really work. You would have to be replacing people constantly. Not very cost efficient. Sure, she could kidnap people, but again, that takes resources, time and money. It's much better if she can convince people to come to her.

And she can do that easily, I mean she has a very popular business going on. I imagine that (kind of like Senor Hueso's whole pizza death maze thing) people would join for fame and maybe a little reward.

I think she would also want to have fights to the death though. She is running a business, and a very aggressive one as well. People would probably like to see blood and guts and the desperation that comes with knowing you are about to die.

So I think it would be a range of different tournaments. AND- having a range means that she can price differently :)

So, you would have the baby fights. People fighting other people, not to the death. Maybe just for glory and a small prize. Tickets would be cheap for those I imagine. I also think that these people would be allowed to come and go as they please. You could pay a fee to enter, try to win, and if you don't, you can pay some more and try again! She covers her costs with the profits from the people entering and the people buying tickets.

Then you might have fights with creatures. Animals/creatures are easier to replace. They can be killed, and you have some of that desperation and excitement without having to worry about replacing your competitors. I imagine that the people entering this one might not need to pay. They already miiiight die from the beasts. That's a high enough cost, so she wouldn't want to dissuade people from entering by making that cost higher. People who win would probably get a prize again. I don't think she would bother associating with or manipulating these people either. I don't even imagine she would heal the losers either. Maybe the winners. Idk. Tickets to watch these would probably be more expensive.

Finally you would have the all out tournaments. Fights that may or may not be to the death. But these are the big costly ones. The ones where damage is done to the arena and she may need to cover the cost of someone getting injured. Here's where I'd imagine she'd be more involved. And here is where I imagine Milkshake would fit into. These are the tournaments with a big prize. Milkshake, of course, isn't going to get that prize. Maybe anyone who defeats her is promised a prize? Anywho- these are the battles in which she has players set in place. They are bloody and you have to pay more than the others to watch. I think that these would also be the ones Lou Jitsu was in. If she can slip someone in there that she doesn't have to pay, but still keeps the crowd interested, then she's definitely gonna do that! She makes a lot of money off of these games. And probably also has other stuff like gambling to make money off of for these.

And for anyone wanting a Foodie AU character to be in the Battle Nexus: I don't think that those who compete in these type of fights would interact a lot. So if a character is regularly entering the 'baby fights' for the money prize, they aren't gonna interact with Milkshake. But a good fighter in a 'baby fight' might catch the eye of Big Mama! You never know who might be a good investment ;)

So full disclosure: I run a merch shop for my webcomic and I make most of my stuff myself in my studio. I've been doing this for the better part of ten years and over that time I've accumulated quite a bit of specialized, expensive equipment like the photo printer and cutting machine I use to make my cassette ephemera. THAT SAID mixtapes don't necessarily need all that!! Unless you're running a bootleg business on etsy or somethin I don't think you and your friends gotta run out and spend a ton of money to make these (beyond tracking down a deck and a player, obviously).

Unfortunately most of these items are found on Amazon because I'm a professional artist trying to Live, but if that's something you'd rather avoid buying through I'm listing the brick and mortar places I can find them when I need to for whatever reason!

My j-cards are just the 8x10 glossy photo paper from Pen & Gear, it's usually less than ten bucks a pack at walmart lmao. I use it with an inkjet photo printer! There are plenty of laser printer options out there though, which is probably the type non-artists have access to. Honestly I think the look of black ink on colored copy paper is super cool for handmade tapes, especially between friends.

My sticker paper was a bitch to find and I'm not sure if it would be useful without my specific equipment, but it's this glossy adhesive photo paper from some rando company called LDProducts. Literally just called "Sticker Photo Paper" pf. It's more expensive but I get it in stacks of a hundred because I print tons of stickers for my shop. Again, glossy adhesive paper might not be useful without a big boy printer but MATTE sticker paper is everywhere, that's also pretty common to find at walmart or at the very least at an office supply store; you can print on it or even get out some markers (not sure i'd suggest anything besides ink tho, I'd be worried it could come off and damage the player). I design the labels in clip studio and then load them into cricut so it's super easy to get the right shape every time, but if you're Determined you could get out a measuring tape and an xacto knife and get similar results.

I've only found my tapes on amazon unfortunately, and it's been a while since I bought any because I sort of inherited a bunch of sealed ones when my dad died and i'm still going through them lol. Almost all my custom ones are 90 minute Sony High Fidelity, last I checked you could order them in packs of five or ten but I'm not sure what the prices are like rn. If you REALLY want to get fancy with colored shells/custom lengths i did find this cool site you can order from, Duplication.ca, but the shipping is kinda rough. One of these days I wanna make some cassettes for my webcomic and I'll drop some money on some pretty ones then, but for now the Sonys are treating me fine so I haven't dug too deep.

I hope something in here is useful! I'm always happy to share what I know but again, I'm very fortunate to have access to quite a bit of stuff most people don't and I try to be up front about it alskdjf. Cassettes are best when they're sorta janky and handmade tho, it's kind of the whole point, and if they're just for you or someone you care about then marking them with a sharpie and masking tape is just as cool in my opinion. probably cooler. everybody should put music on physical media and trade it i think.

At like the beginning of this month, me and my bestie were on a phone call catching up, when she pitched the idea to me about possibly moving in together. Shit's so expensive in America, so having a roommate is more than ideal. And having one you actually know well is even better! And I feel like I can't make any more progress on my mental health until I move out and get a fresh start! So, I accepted! The catch is, her lease ends in March. And I don't have any savings rn (I was going to get a job this month anyway and slowly start saving money to move out in a year or two, I was caught off guard). But I feel like I'm ready for this. It's just going to get a lot worse before it gets better because ✨stress ✨.

I've spent the last couple weeks coming up with a budget, goals, and some planning. And the big issue I've come across is a car! I am more than capable of making the money on my own, but under these circumstances, I'm not sure. I am also just so stressed and overwhelmed right now. I was overwhelmed with things going on before this, though not nearly as bad. The stress of needing to make enough money in time for the move is just eating me alive. A couple days ago, I started crying because of a totally optional class I do not have to take, that would give me a nice certificate for me to put on my resume (I never went to college so that would make my resume look better). My grandma had to remind me I don't need to do anything I don't want to, and went to the store the next day to get me some natural stress relief pills while I go through this. Because I keep breaking down and stressing about it. I've never had a job before, and I want to do everything right. But I don't want to jeopardize my mental health. So starting part time, taking things slow.

Down payment on an apartment should be like 2.5k I think, will save to 3k if I can. And I need a couple extra thousand for things we might need, like furniture or dishes or whatever. I don't think we'll need a lot, but I need to be ready. PLUS when I get my car, I'll then need to pay monthly expenses and gas. And when I move out I'll have even more monthly expenses, so I want some money in my account to make me feel safer while I adjust.

SO to the point, my friend has been helping keep my head on my shoulders and walking me through it since she's been living on her own for a little bit now and is able to give advice. I am super grateful to have her, and she helped me find some affordable cars + how to tell if they're worth your time or not. Nothing less than 5k for a car, clean title, check all the features, just don't leave anything unturned. My budget for a car is 7k. I found a green slug bug that I really like, and I'm hoping to get that one. But it could easily get sold, so I have some other cars in mind just in case. Some kind of automatic slug bug.

This is a very big change in my life, and this transition is a LOT for me to handle. I have some good resources on my side to help make sure I set everything up as good as I can, but my mental health is the only thing I'm really worried about because it is SUCH a small timeframe to get that kind of money. At least I think it is. Either way, I'm fucking stressed and could use help getting money for a car! I'm planning on making money, myself, just in case this doesn't work out. But it doesn't hurt to ask for help. And I don't really know many people. Plus my Nana was kind of judgy about the idea of a gofundme as if I'm above that kind of begging, like no I am not lol I'm on my way to a breakdown if I don't get something situated. So I don't want to tell my family about this gofundme. I don't have the energy to deal with their doubts rn, and nobody can give me money anyway.

there's a developing story in Australian media about Tiktok pixels collecting unauthorised data in an aggressive manner via their ads on thrid party websites, and I was wondering what a Professional like yourself made of it

ooh reading into this now... full disclosure that (1) until/unless I get another job in adtech I am technically not a Professional anymore lol and (2) pixel tags weren't a big component of my last role so I only have a fairly basic understanding of how they work. but from what I'm seeing here it sounds like the main issue with tiktok rn isn't the data collection per se, since these pixel tags are functionally identical to the ones employed by facebook and others, just that tiktok isn't obtaining user consent the way other companies are ostensibly do. although even that seems like a convenient lead-in for the whole Oh My God A But Chinese Company Is Doing It thing.

and tbf I kinda can pull that in both directions—on one hand facebook in particular has gotten in a lot of trouble before for bad data collection practices and putting that data in the hands of people who used it to (maybe, allegedly) sway public opinion, so the general fear underpinning this thing is like, not unfounded right. (even though I don't think the issue behind the cambridge analytica scandal was centered around tracking pixels specifically?) on the other hand the very nature of facebook's rocky history re. data and privacy proves that western companies can and will spy on their users and it's for sure disingenuous to act like ~shady foreign governments~ are the only ones with any incentive to do so lol.

I guess you could argue that facebook's incentive for all the spying was simply Making Money, even if they took money from people who did use that spy data to spread propaganda; like, to the parent company, the propaganda wasn't the goal. whereas many will obviously argue that with tiktok data some undefined form of propaganda is the goal. but seeing that tiktok ads are a multi-billion dollar enterprise(!) I'm way more inclined to believe that tiktok is also spying for the sake of Making Money. clearly a whole fucking lot of money!

this is something I've for sure said before but I also wholeheartedly believe (and to some extent, know, although again pixel tracking isn't my exact wheelhouse) that advertising data is a lot less granular and therefore less useful than most people imagine it to be, which severely limits the kind of compromising shit you can pull under normal circumstances.

even in the article I linked, where they talk about tiktok pixels being able to track the shopping/browsing habits of users, basic device info, and occasionally some PII like phone numbers and email addresses... like, okay, so let's say tiktok knows that junglejim4322@yahoo.com used an iphone to look at a website that sells orthopedic shoe inserts. or even maybe something more salacious like, idk, questionably legal gas station dick pills. from a "let's use tiktok to spread propaganda" perspective I really struggle how that information would be valuable or what you'd do with it other than emailing that person outright to taunt them about their fucked up feet and/or dick? (if the goal is to show people certain kinds of content in tiktok's app then certainly you have both the means to do so and plenty of behavioral data to draw up on in the app itself. it's a literal video platform lol.) otoh from a "let's use this data to create advertising segments" perspective then you can easily monetize this info by telling advertisers that you know a guy who's a prime target for ads about podiatry treatments or whatever, in which case advertisers are more eager to spend money on ads because they think they're talking to a relevant audience. and in that case advertisers don't really care what the guy's name or email is, just that he ticks certain boxes that make him a worthwhile use of ad dollars. and even in cases where bad actors do want more specific data for shady purposes, it's pretty difficult to collect it and even harder to propagate it across different platforms; one thing I think gets overlooked a lot with cambridge analytica in particular is that it happened on a platform where users willingly share their full name, birthday, gender, relationship status, political leanings, job title, etc. outright, and then create connections between other people who also willingly share all that info. in some ways I don't think it could've happened anywhere but facebook, because this is a situation where you really didn't have to squeeze anything out of users—they just came out and told you! (it's also part of why non-shady facebook ads are so lucrative; you don't have to guesstimate audience data when you can literally just specify that certain ads should only be shown to people whose profile says they're between the ages of 35 and 55.) and as far as I'm aware tiktok just does not have anything remotely approaching that kind of profile data.

anyway lol. as far as I can tell I think this is a GDPR-y consent issue first and foremost, which will probably turn into a thorny battle over whether tiktok can/will be held to EU data standards or similar statues with a good helping of Chinese Company Bad mixed in for good measure. also side note but remember the whole thing about tiktok data transparency but the american company they put in charge of it is fucking oracle?

✭ Alois takes decorating the tree very seriously. He's the type that needs to have everything in a matching colour scheme and all the ornaments in the right place. He will transform into his flock of bats to reach the really high up places or, to make sure you don't feel left out at all, he'll carry you while he floats up so you can reach this totally isn't an excuse to hold you or anything.

✭ However, once he gets this plan across, it becomes a group effort for the whole estate to decorate the manor together and it's often a really fun day with everyone getting the day off their duties to just decorate and then cook together. The tree in the foyer is huge. Everyone at the Leblanc Estate looks forward to Christmas for this reason.

✭ Doesn't really do Christmas. But he's happy enough to decorate the place with you and he certainly won't turn down a big, warm meal in this cold season. I think he enjoys the cooking part more than the decorating. Nasana has a truly feral diet before you came along and he's come to really enjoy cooking, especially your cooking or just doing it as a quality time activity with you.

✭ This naga will be all wrapped up in a jumper and blankets with the fireplace roaring as the two of you go about the place and decorate with ornaments and garlands. He comes to quite like all the shiny stuff everywhere.

✭ Takeshi celebrates Christmas for the fun of it - he likes decorating and giving/receiving gifts. Also, it creates the perfect opportunity for him to pull tricks when everyone around him is only expecting kindness. Expect a few gag gifts or pranks.

✭ He really likes the ambience that the lights create and you can find him in his fox form napping under the tree and all its twinkling lights in the holiday season. Takeshi strikes me as the type to leave up the neutral-coloured lights around the place for the rest of the year even after all the other decorations are taken down because he really likes it.

✭ Desdemona loves Christmas! I’ve mentioned before that one of her interests is old movies and she’d just love a chance to decorate the place with you!! You’ll have to lead the way with cooking Christmas dinner though because this siren would likely poison you by accident as she’s never had to learn to cook.

✭ She’s all about decorating together though and the whole place will be lit up with lights and candles, there’s a Christmas tree decorated with faux Pearl garlands and silvery ornaments (many of which Des has made with you!!).

✭ Oddly enough, Aphaeleon isn't very big on Christmas. He's been around long enough to watch it go from a Pagan to Christian holiday and besides, what's the point of celebrating figures that will not be essential to his era as God? Aphae might not be a fan of all the decorations and such but he loves the charity aspect.

✭ You'll be decorating many trees with Aphae as he's used his money money from blackmailing corrupt ppl obv to buy decorations for shelters for the homeless/women/etc. to lift their spirits. This season is quite busy for him as he's leading charity events, masses and gathering essential supplies to donate to shelters. He spends a lot of time going around his churches too which are always open to those in need of shelter but become particularly busy with the colder weather.

✭ Oh! Va'ariniel's heard about this one! There are stories from a few centuries ago of humans decorating their houses with greenery and a tree with ornaments to invite the fae inside and give them shelter from the cold if needed. Not many humans decorate a Christmas tree for the same reasons now though and so, without the invitation, fae can no longer enter homes to reside in these trees.

✭ She's so eager to bring back this tradition that once stood between fae and humans and so she's got all the castle staff running around to decorate the place (it's also an opportunity to stake her claim to the throne by subtly putting green everywhere ahem). She'll fly up and place ornaments wherever you deem fit and she comes to love a hot chocolate substitute that the two of you figure out how to make together with ingredients from her realm.

✭ Taruqu'inel had also heard about this Christmas tree tradition but he wasn't as well-versed as Va'ari. He'll hang off your every word as you tell him all about the tradition's history and he's ecstatic to take part in something that once stood to join fae and humans like yourself! His advisors aren't very happy with putting green everywhere and insist he must convince you to use blue instead but he really couldn't care less as long as he gets to see that big smile on your face. He will 100% take you in his arms bridal style and fly up so you can reach places to hang decorations.

✭ However his advisors give you both more than enough resources to hold a feast in Taruqu'inel's name. He knows that they see it as a way of winning people over with generosity and it's a way of showing off what he can provide as a ruler but to Taru this is all about you. He'll have the head chef teaching you both how to make the tastiest dishes, all under your guidance of what a Christmas dinner should be like and you'll be feeding each other desserts by the end of the evening.

✭ While the landscape around Kanastra Highlands holds some beautiful scenery, it can look rather bleak in the winter and so Khione's more than happy to bring some greenery inside. He lets you take the lead in deciding how to decorate everything but he's helping you out every step of the way.

✭ Khione's very giving when it comes to his people and so I'm sure that, like Aphae, he loves the charity aspect the most. He'll get teams of people together months in advance to organise decorations and feasts and parades. Many of the cities across Kanastra have winter markets and he's eager to take you around them all to buy you little gifts and try all sorts of foods with you. Khione is a very serious dragon man 99% of the time but he looks like a child when he's eagerly dragging you around these markets. He looks forward to them all year round.

I don't think many of them understand that they've got it made rn, and they've never experienced the world some of us are living in

And I don't mean it in a mental health sense or anything, I mean in an actual survival as an adult sense

I was literally surprised by how much I related to Mario specifically. He's the oldest. I'm the oldest of six (under a technicality, two of them are my dad's girlfriend's kids but yk). I'm sure his parents have preached that he needs to take care of and watch out for his younger brother (I'm assuming they're still twins in this universe, Mario was always the older twin in the games and other lore), and I've been preached that too. I'm the same way with my siblings as Mario is with Luigi. Throw trash at my sister, see that happens. "The more you fuck around, the more you're gonna find out." And at the end of the day, my parents will be only in my memories at some point, and all I'll have left is my siblings, granted if I never get married, have kids, etc (God willing I hope, not the point though) It seems to me that Mario is incredibly aware of that too, that one day they'll both be at an age where it's literally only him and Luigi and that they may literally be the only one the other has.

What also struck me was the set-up they showed with the boys. They still live with Mom and Dad, still in their childhood bedroom(s?), just trying to find their footing, I assume they want to be independent of their parents. They put their life savings into a commercial to get their company off the ground. I'm assuming they didn't have very much in the first place, especially from the speech their father gave about how "you can't just give up a steady job for a dream," and how Mario (at least specifically I'm assuming) can't hold down a job in the first place. How he's the one that's bringing Luigi down, as if Luigi can't make a decision for himself, and Mario's like his legal guardian or something. It very much seems to me that they've literally leaned on each other for almost everything more than their own parents, and that's screaming volumes for me.

I still live with my parents, and I get the same grief as well over how I haven't gotten it all figured out still. C*vid was zero help, I wasn't even a year out of high school when it hit, I was just starting college and things were not going very well. I'm just now figuring out my degree program, what I want, trying to get my career off the ground, and getting money back in the bank. I can't afford rent, God no, and I'm blessed to have a job that covers tuition now.

But it seems to me that critics don't understand that. For some reason they want this incredible fleshed-out character arc, plot and overreaching plot, Oscar and Emmy winning from day one piece, and besides the fact that this is technically intended for children, some of the ones I've read are literally making just under upper-to-upper class pay and lifestyles by being that judgemental. They don't have to worry about gas (or the electric bills if they have an electric car) in the tank or food on the table or making rent. One said that they "failed to give Mario a personality" (paraphrasing), when literally I'm seeing myself and my survival struggles in this short moustachioed plumber with older sibling anxiety.

Which, I'm pretty sure he's got a mild touch of GAD, or maybe that's me projecting. I'm not a licensed anything. Also added bonus points because I'm shorter than all of the siblings that are at an age to have actual height. One of my siblings is in high school rn and she's taller than me by a good eight inches. I'm six years older than her.

I'm literally out here doing the best I can with a $200 Insurance payment coming and $80 in the bank.

So yeah. Mario is a really good character.

feeling healthy. classic friday night crying unexpectedly because it just occurred to me that im almost 30 and ive spent the last 3 days alone with no one to talk to. im just in bed watching the simpsons wishing i had someone with me just to fucking watch the simpsons or stupid youtube comps. i’ve been seething because my roommate left days ago without telling me and he hasn’t cleaned a thing since i moved in so i’ve spent the past 2 days scrubbing the place clean which makes me resentful. he also left his aging dog here and she drives me insane and i didn’t sign up to be a dog owner but here we are. should i let her starve and shit in the house or do i just do the right thing and make sure shes fed. let her out when she screams at the door at all hours of the day night and morning. its been raining but stopped today so i left the house and spent 50$ on nothing and i still dont have a job and i just have to come up with new ways to spend my time with nothing to do no money no one to talk do on this shithole hill

like when you’re young and optimistic and idealistic you never think that sad loser is gonna be you. like no way i’m gonna be a sad friendless lonely freak of nature. no way im gonna be broke and jobless near 30.

and it just creeps up and like i’d do anything to get out of this but i just fail and fail and fail and i can’t find a way out. everything is just closing in on me rn. and if i go home to my parents i wont need to worry as much about money for the time being but what kind of back peddling is that….i spent my entire 20s working up the courage to move out completely and again im failing. i can’t go home anyways because believe it or not my situation is every worse there

and my parents are so scared for me…like they won’t say it but they’re ashamed and disappointed and they pity me which is honestly worse than anything else….i don’t want them to help me out of pity it feels like no one believes in me at all

so my working name for him rn is adam white (bonus points if u can figure out the origin of these names. hint: consider some of my other characters names) but i will likely change at least the given name. i’m considering lucas but not sure, i just generally want something Classic European bc i feel like that’s what two mfs named James and Catherine would name their kid (bonus points if it’s biblical). as i’ve said i’m making the character so i can do tale of two wastelands (hopefully. if i can figure out the mod. haven’t tried yet and dk how it works so it might be complicated…) so obviously he starts as the lone wanderer

to contrast charlie (who has always dealt with barely contained rage and loathes his dad, blaming james for all the shit he had to go thru in the wasteland), adam is more forgiving to him. not that he doesn’t also have conflicting and negative feelings abt james, he does, but he also sees him as ultimately a Good Man doing things for the Bettering of Humanity. adam never had much ambition in the vault and was just kinda drifting along as he grew up, was probably gonna be a maintenance worker or something “basic”. he didn’t learn medicine from james because james never bothered to teach him and he never thought to ask to learn. BUT! later in the wasteland — most pointedly after james dies — he takes it on himself to become something of a doctor because he wants to Continue his parents’ Legacy. etc etc

i also have it in mind for him to wear a mask while traveling (think along the lines of the blastmaster helmet. except i’m actually thinking of something from the pitt i just don’t remember the name.) so just imagine this nervous 20 year old in full armor with an assault rifle comes running up to you after you were brutally beaten by a raider or something, one year post-project purity, and he’s like TRUST ME LET ME HELP IM A DOCTOR meanwhile he looks like an overblown raider boss

at his core he is a Coward and, again, not ambitious. chronically indecisive. he Wants to help but he does Not want to risk himself (though of course he does since it’s. kind of the nature of the games if ur playing a mostly-good character). this then leads him to just going along with mr. house when he gets to vegas, because he doesn’t want to rock the boat and, honestly, probably won’t even think to kill house. he has his own opinions, for sure, and he’s not a saint — the choices he does make still are bad at times. but generally, he takes the road of “what is the most helpful at large but also the easiest for Me”

also, i think the followers of apocalypse have a university in california or smth? isn’t that mentioned once or twice in fnv? not sure need to research. and also i’m aware it generally doesn’t really Match for the courier to be the lw but obviously i’m ignoring that for the sake of the mod. but, depending on whatever is going on there, the followers’ university is what i’m currently thinking of for why he went west, and he… idk, gets roped into courier work for money or for a relatively easy way to Help or something, and ends up caught up in new vegas politics
