"i'm so delulu" no, you are so ableist. psychotic people can hear you. you're not cute and you're not dealing with a delusion just because you're fixated on something. if you say you hate ableism then do this, you sure the hell do not. psychotic people are not your personal punching bag. stop it.

You don't wish your disability was worse or more visible, you wish your disability was taken seriously. Please stop confusing the two, I guarantee you would not get the support you need JUST by being more severe or more visible. Please listen to visibly disabled people when we tell you it isn't better on our side
#m/cc#mine#I tried extremely hard to word this nicely because I KNOW people don't mean bad and often even know there are unique challenges#and believe me I know the challenges of invisible disability too!!#I have invisible disabilities!#but as someone who has also been at least visibly 'off' since they were 10 I am SO SICK of invisible disabilities being hailed as like#a unique extra oppression that us lucky visibly disabled people don't have to deal with#there are challenges to invisible disabilities that visibly disabled people DON'T have to deal with!#but you need to understand that *the reverse is also true*#there are MASSIVE benefits to being able to lie about your disability for example#or not dealing with the overt ableism that comes with your disability being obvious to everyone#*I do not have the option to pretend I'm not disabled.* that is never an option I have#I walk weirdly. I use a mobility aid now. my speech and face are 'off.' I lean to one side#for a long time I wore sunglasses 24/7 and often didn't make sense. I sometimes can't speak or won't react to others#for the most part people will always know that at the very least something is wrong with me#and more obviously I have people telling me they'll pray for me; telling me I can't do things I'm already in the process of doing;#wanting to shake my hand to tell me I'm an inspiration for not killing myself; giving me dirty looks for existing in public#and yes. I'm aware that this is very much an in-community issue. I know the average abled person doesn't know invisible disabilities exist#that's why there's so much awareness happening for it#but as a visibly disabled person I get SO TIRED of constantly hearing 'I wish my disability was visible :'('#it's just 'I wish I had your disability!' but from other disabled people

from @.mprnews on Instagram.
Not sure how many of y'all saw this, but the combined misogyny-ableism-transphobia was off the charts. I am glad that he did get his top surgery, has support, and that its pursuing it's goals to advocate for other disabled + trans people.

the other thing about being disabled in academia is everyone is like "yeah we can't do much about the buildings they're old :/" as if "old" being a synonym for "inaccessible" isn't just a constant reminder that the people who built the school did not imagine that someday someone like me might study there

this is the perfect evidence that empathy doesn't equal to caring about other's well-being.
this post literally offers to don't care about someone's feelings because they have a certain disorder (npd). and directly claims that people with this disorder don't have feelings, which is factually incorrect and is worded in dehumanizing manner.
it seems like people with any level of empathy are able to be ignorant and cruel towards others, they just come with different excuses to do so.

Your silent protagonist doesn't have to use sign language btw. They don't have to write things down, either. They don't have to use language at all. Not every single person who doesn't talk can use words the same as you, or use them at all, so your favorite silent character shouldn't have to use what you consider a grammatical language to communicate in your fanart and fics. AAC exists. Drawing exists. Gestures and body language exist. Btw.

Can we stop picking like certain disabilities to be like this thing we bring up as the standard "lesser" thing or whatever like
Physical disabilities are serious don't treat them like mental disabilities WELL ACTUALLY some mental disabilities ARE serious it's not just all like autism WELL ACTUALLY autism can be serious it's not all low support needs autism WELL ACTUALLY all autism is serious it's not like ADHD WELL ACTUALLY ADHD is serious it's not like anxiety and depression WELL ACTUALLY
It's this endless pointless cycle and it's hell and you can literally just talk about your specific struggles without putting down anyone else's. It's pretty easy actually.

Stan and Ford and the Different Flavors of Autistic-ness
Ford has that Former Gifted Child thing where his inflated arrogance comes from a place of having to prove himself, but also yeas hes neurodivergent.
Tumblr media
(Bugs under a rock. They are so so squishy.)
The way Ford thinks reminds me of Aspie Supremacy in a way.
[Aspie supremacy describes a phenomenon where people who were dx/still identify with the term "aspergers" see themselves as being superior to non-autistics (as well as "other" autistics) where people who have (visibly) lower support needs are "acceptable" enough vs other autistic people who need more support. Of course this is complicated!]
(More thoughts under this cut)
In a less extreme way, you could compare Ford-whose autism doesnt give him the learning disabilities his brother probably does. Autism can be comorbid with many learning disabilities.
They are both autistic but when it comes to school one of them needs more than the other.
Even as Ford doesn't have academic struggles, he clearly struggles socially. He struggles caring for himself, doing basic self care, etc.
Theres a reason we are moving away from "aspergers" and "low and high functioning" because the reality of being autistic is theres lots of areas where someone can need little or no support whereas in another they may have Very high support needs.
Being a nerd might have actually saved him socially in that way since when you are dismissed as a nerdy type, you are kind of expected to be "weird or eccentric" because Thats Just How Smart People Are, and it saved him from having to mask so hard. His natural way of being jibed with a stereotype.
But Stan didnt have that so he had to mask a lot more heavily. A likely reason he was actually less popular than Ford was among their peers. Because Ford met stereotypes and he didnt.
That specific terminology didnt exist yet but I think it could apply to him.
He would see traits he has and think they are Abilities and ways of thinking and that might make him feel a sense of superiority over others. Because thats how he built up his Worth after being ostracized.
They likely didnt have the words for these things: first of all special education didnt exist, awareness about autism and disabilities wasnt so common.
Ford and stan 100% have no idea they are autistic but they feel the experience without the words to describe it.
But i think like. You know, labels like "aspie supremacy" and "former gifted kid syndrome" and also "autism" in general exist they describe the phenomenon that was already There. We just have a term describing it now.
Even now there is a divide between autistic experiences where some autistic people are praised and seen as "gifted" and "good" autistics (Ford in this case) while others are the "bad" autistics (Stan in this example) who are seen as "defiant" and are punished. And also you can be in both situations at different times (I was.)

[ID: screenshot of the post that reads: "kindness shouldn't have strings attached. you're only kind if you don't want anything in return. otherwise, you're just playing 'nice'." /end ID]
this is untrue.
kindness is actions.
people don't owe anyone "correct" thought process or feelings behind the actions for these actions to be considered kind. thoughts and feelings shouldn't be moralized because it isn't something that people can choose and go.
if you act kindly because you care about your public image, or because it's just a habit, or because you hope to be reciprocated with kindness, or because of any other reason, or without any particular reason, you act kindly. you are doing good things.
if the idea of this message was "when someone does something kind, for example, helps or gives a gift, and then uses it to guilt receiver in doing something, it is bad," they should have said this instead of blaming people for their "impure" thoughts and emotions. the reason why it's bad to guilt/push someone using previous favors is that it's harmful manipulation. that it breaks their trust. that it is based on initially making them expect one thing (help/gift/whatever good thing they don't have to pay for) and then twisting it to cause guilt and disrespect their right to not consent.
but. if people don't use their previous kind actions to push someone to do something for them (or otherwise make harm), it literally doesn't matter what they think and feel and what motivates them. when there are no actual harmful actions, it's harmless. and therefore kind.

Making things more accessible for disabled people with motor impairments and other disabilities, doesn't just help with those specific disabilities,it also helps disabled people as a whole.
If a space is easier for people with mobility aids to move around,it's easier for people with Dyspraxia and/or visual impairments and similar conditions too!(and also young children)
If a space is designed around people with visual epilepsy or similar conditions,it's also less distressing for people whose sensory issues are triggered by flashing/bright lights.
If a space is designed around sensory seekers, with lots of sensory rich surfaces,it's also helpful for people who are visually impaired who can use these to better understand and navigate our environment.
If a space is designed to have lots of resting spots and anti slip devices for physically disabled people who need breaks from moving around and could fall and get hurt easily, this is very helpful for people with visual impairments and dyspraxia.
Accessibility is helpful to all of us. Ableism hurts all of us.
Together,we can survive and thrive.

Twenty-five years later, she still vividly recalled the distraught young black woman who had told her she was a “homosexual and was taking hormone [sic].” Although Murray always denied being a lesbian, she occasionally admitted to “homosexual tendencies” as the only available descriptor that people would accept. As for the report that she was taking hormones, nothing in her correspondence with doctors supports that claim. She wanted testosterone badly enough, however, that she may well have told the corrections officer that doctors had agreed to give it to her. Barry did not arrest Murray for hitchhiking but rather escorted her to the New York City Police Department, where officers decided to take her to Bus Trouble 81 Bellevue Hospital. There, Murray poured out her story to a psychiatrist, who gave her a diagnosis of “schizophrenia.” In the doctor’s view, she suffered from a delusion: she believed that she was a man. Permitted to call a family member, Murray contacted her “cousin” Mac. The next day, Mac checked her out of Bellevue and, probably on the recommendaation of Dr. Chinn, took her to a private psychiatric facility, Dr. Rogers’s Hospital, at 345 Edgecombe Avenue, on the corner of 150th Street. Murray was lucky. If Mac had not come to her rescue, Bellevue psychiatrists were prepared to seek her commitment to one of the vast, overcrowded state hospitals for the mentally ill.

Just say that you lack creativity and are jealous of people who can express themselves with their chosen medium of expression. There are millions of ways and tools to express oneself, yet you chose AI to do your hard work, which is “the act of creating”. Feel ashamed, not proud.
