call me crazy but there is a difference between treating your adult players like they are new to the world and treating your adult players like they have the memory of a goldfish and the vocabulary of a 9 year old

truly one of the biggest letdowns in piper's writing in hoo specifically is how it doesn't dig deeper into charmspeak and what a disturbing thing it is to have the power to control someone's mind. like I swear this is interesting stuff and more people would get into piper as a character if this were explored a bit more in the text. you definitely see piper disturbed by her own power and hesitant to use it (and note that like many other characters, i.e. leo and hazel, her powers have always been a source of trouble in her life - like how she got in trouble for stealing a car even though all she did was ask for it), but in my opinion the books spend way too much time in piper's perspectives on other stuff when charmspeak is such an unusual and fascinating and terrifying power that offers so many interesting avenues of character exploration
and I really wish the books would have talked more about the canonical fact that charmspeak is more effective against people who are (or could be) physically/sexually attracted to the user. this is a power that children of aphrodite have - a power that is implicitly tied to sexuality as a defense or offense. like this inherently necessitates that piper weaponizes her sexuality against monsters and deities and giants and any other antagonist that want to harm her. which is crazy. especially because she's a teenager and especially because piper is initially characterized as an underconfident girl who goes out of her way to downplay her appearance (do you guys remember how much harassment piper goes through in the books and what little gravity is afforded to those moments... like she has dangerous characters aggressively flirting with or expressing attraction to her A Lot, and she has to play into that attraction to save herself or her friends no matter how uncomfortable it makes her)
I think there's such a dark undertone to all of this that's worth investigating. we know that piper doesn't like herself, doesn't like her powers, and doesn't like demigod life. hoo has her on a journey to become more confident in herself as a person and as a daughter of aphrodite but it's always going to be fucked up that part of her role in the prophecy seven is becoming confident enough in herself that she gets better at weaponizing her ability to violate the free will of others - and her ability to use her sexuality as an armament of war

text transcription:
Many springs ago, I perceived a sea of flowers upon a lake. I thought to myself that those fleeting colors held indescribable beauty.
The next time I perceived those colors was many years later, when the medic’s tent had blinded me to all but red. The radiance of that shining star was lost on my eyes.
Now, my eyes no longer perceive the subtleties in the colors around me.
But I am content.
For I can now see the most brilliant colors in my universe.
anyways yeah why did they fucking do that to jiaoqiu bro
the planning for this experimentalish comic is under keep reading

I've been rewatching harry potter movies, currently on the halfblood prince and I think some irreparable changes happened to my brain at some point, cause once Tom showed on the screen I just couldn't hold it in

Look at him!!!! He's my baby!!!!! He's my son!!! 😭😭😭 He's such a littlest dearest creature I'm holding him gently in my hands he's so small 😭
Mentally slapping Dumbledore because what do you think you're doing setting child's closet on fire and reprimanding him like this. He's already having difficult and unhappy life without you in it!!!!!! Why this is the very first thing you're deciding to do!!!!!
Don't know what about anyone else but I'd heal this baby with the power of love and safe home, just saying

yknow briefly i wanted to have one of peter's silly villains show up in gotham. it was that they found out spider-man went missing and they went looking for him (cause currently in the LoF timeline Peter's dynamic with his villains is a very mutual goofing around 99% of the time), and they got into a scrap with Ohnn, got pulled into gotham, decided to fuck around until they saw Ohnn again, and immediately spider-man showed up to the scene and was like "what are you doing here!?" to which they'd have given him an enthusiastic greeting. but that was way back with LoF was gonna be 15 chapters. my homage to that was Thor showing up, in a way. which btw i realized I haven't said anything here yet??? but this Loki thing is in fact hinting at the reason their timeline is different and Thanos doesn't happen. except it's mostly there for readers to speculate and draw their own conclusions with, as it's just a background thing since we're not really here for that

I’ve hit that point where there’s so much about Arcane that I want to discuss and level-set about for my own sanity
only to realize that it doesn’t really matter because season 2 was so noncommittal and so defanged, it unravels season 1 too. Like you really just have to discuss season 1 as its own entity. Looping season 2 into deeper discussions actively makes season 1 crumble into something just as derivative and just as thematically lost. Just imagining that season 2 was what the writers were angling for even in the final drafts of season 1 makes me so sad

da2 had a lot of flaws but i wish it's reception had been warmer because there's one thing i think it absolutely got right: shifting the location and telling a low-stakes story (by the standards of the next two installments with its world-ending crises i mean). i think they could have gone on like that for more games.
da3: move to orlais and stay grounded to orlais and expand this one country's situation intimately, centering the civil war and the game.
da4: move to antiva and do the same. tell a story with assassin intrigue, the crows, sinister plots from behind shadows...
da5: move to rivain, or tevinter, or anderfels or...
easy way to have a new protagonist, new cast, and new lore each time without having to deal with past player choices too deeply but still leaving plenty of room for cameos and easter eggs

okay so the "fake out lujanne-lissa" scene/plot is egregious for a lot of reasons, but actually, my BIGGEST complaint with this one isn't even the hypocrisy, but rather what a MISSED OPPORTUNITY it was for a deeper, more complex exploration of the SIBLING dynamic between claudia and soren.
when terry says "i think there's one person who can put those pieces back together," and soren asks, "what are you getting at?" i was absolutely flabbergasted when he followed it up with "your mom," because i was completely, 100% expecting him to say soren.
terry's whole argument here is that everything claudia does, she does out of love for her family. why would he think of lissa OVER soren - lissa, who, as terry seems to know by now, hurt claudia so badly when she left, and who claudia hasn't seen in fifteen years? who claudia has barely even spoken of outside of talking to ezran about how hard it was for her being asked to choose between her parents? she talks to viren multiple times about doing things for "our family," but lissa ostensibly hasn't been a part of that family since claudia was very young.
the show even makes a point of drawing a parallel between soren and lissa in season three, when soren chooses to leave viren's side after his takeover of lux aurea, and claudia pleads with him "don't ask me to choose, soren - not again." and then refuses to say goodbye to him, because she can't bear accepting that her brother is leaving her. if the writers really wanted to go with the angle of "her love for her family is the only thing that can stop her" why not use soren instead - whom claudia clearly hasn't resolved her issues with, who's a much fresher example in her mind of being abandoned or left behind?? (AND with all the focus put on terry making them PROMISE not to hurt her, it feels like it was the perfect setup for soren to actually TALK to her, and for the story to explore their relationship in more complexity.)
i just feel like it would have made so much more sense for soren to be the one to try and stop claudia by genuinely connecting with her - a real attempt at reconciling with her and offering her a true path back, instead of the weird manipulative choice to try and trick her with an illusion of her mother (who, again, broke claudia's heart last time she saw her and has caused her emotional trauma that's stuck with her for years of her life. like????? UGH.) vs soren, who claudia clearly still loves - in the final scene with her, she still labels herself as his sister that he should love and be unwilling to kill, and refuses to kill him because she's "still herself" - inherently saying that he's still her brother, to her, and she doesn't want him dead, even when she already considers herself as being abandoned by him.
soren is, by now, the only living & present family that claudia has left. it just feels so much more intuitive and believable that he would be the only one who can connect with claudia where she is now and offer her a way back home.

Style is already at the point of no return and his whole angle right now is slowly moving toward:
1. if Fadel tells me about being a hitman himself, he can't be mad when he finds out that i know and then he will open up and we will live happily ever after
2. Maybe If I Just Talk Him Into Getting A Normal Secure Job With No Killing Involved None Of This Ever Has To Matter (and we can live happily ever after)
