i love and appreciate western media very much, but there really are some feelings only chinese media can tap into. it's the eternal tension between conforming to long-established tradition v. defying it all and being something new, something deviant. we find that conflict in the ideological battles between chinese philosophies; the criticisms and derivations between confucianism, buddhism, daoism, mohism, etc. we find it in the way chinese states are always torn between honoring traditional values v. loosening their grip to accommodate those at the margins. we find it in people like myself; i grew up in a very religious chinese buddhist family, having to studiously study buddhism and some prominent confucian texts. inside the cultural consciousness, there are real living people. and they want so badly to break free from convention, its suffocating and painfully limiting. at the same time, it feels so important and they want to keep engaging with it, they can't abandon something so close to their identity and heart.

mlc also dedicates itself to discussing this push and pull. and it lives in this grey area, this overlap of tradition and nonconformity. fanghua exemplifies this wonderfully, by embodying the traditional and non-traditional family all at once.

lxy is fdb's master, his role model. he is the ideal patriarch of jianghu (as @seventh-fantasy very rightly points out, lxy is the ideal picture of a mohist leader, mohism is the ideological inspiration behind wuxia fiction and all). on the other side of this same coin, llh serves as fdb's protector and guardian. he takes fdb under his wing and roof, looks out for fdb and passes his teachings down to him. llh raises him as a fair, wise and dependable jianghu figure, so much so that llh names fdb as his successor in the farewell letter. fdb inherits everything that was llh's, his house, dog, his skills and his legacy.

to fdb, he is both lxy and llh's heir. he owes them a lot. he wants to do right by them. he is their charge, the seed they both nurtured.

lxy/llh is also 长辈 an elder to 晚辈 the junior, fdb. there is an age gap between lxy/llh and fdb. in addition to his canonical status as master, guardian and uncle in a way, llh is a member of the older generation and fdb is a youth of the new age (the era of lxy's sigu sect v. the era of baichuan's sigu sect). tianji is fdb's family in regular society and llh is fdb's family in the jianghu world. and fdb is lucky to have parental figure(s) in both spheres.

to lxy/llh, fdb is his responsibility. fdb is his burden and also his pride. he is the naive youth that llh accepts into his home to mentor. lxy/llh holds seniority. and there is a certain amount of distance he expects from fdb. even if fdb refuses to abide. similar to the princess zhaoling who was kept at arm's length by the older girls in the mansion, fdb is kept at arm's length by llh.

so traditional dynamics and social roles lie at the root of fanghua. and yet there is:

a) an explicit rejection of blood family (fdb rejects sgd and lxy/llh chooses his adopted jianghu family over bloodline) wherein the family & marriage is said to be a foundational unit of chinese society,

b) an ambiguity, it is hard to slap one single label on fanghua because they embody multiple things at once. their dynamic derives from the traditional chinese concepts of family and seniority. there is duty and obligation that goes both ways. but the boundaries delineating each form of that are broken down. fanghua resembles father/son, and mother/son, and uncle/nephew, and master/disciple in one package. fdb also believes them to be shoulder to shoulder in friendship, equal partners, and that adds another layer of ambiguity.

there is a unique mobility and ability to traverse between definitions, and that marks them as non-traditional. an elusive quality that is built on top of the traditions that we know.

Reproamory & Rotationship

Some new polyamorous terms we've had sitting on the backburner but forgotten to post anywhere!

------

Reproamory: a polyamorous relationship that is initiated for reproductive purposes. A reproamorous person will get involved with more than one person in order to create a biological child, and once pregnancy has successfully occurred, the new member of the relationship stays involved. Here are two examples of how this term may apply:

- A couple that chooses a third person to join their relationship (making it a triad), due to one of them being infertile or being of incompatible sexes for child-creation (such as a dyadic/endosex male-male couple, neither of whom have a uterus.)

- Two (or more) couples that are close-friends, who decide that they wish to sexually engage for the purpose of sharing children and coparenting. Either romantic or queerplatonic/alterous feelings develop between them, or they form a long-term senseship or casual relationship/FWB. Regardless, their relationship is no longer simply a friendship.

For the flags, orange represents familial warmth and excitement to be parents. Magenta represents love and passion. Green represents natural reproduction.

The first flag uses a typical human-appearing baby.

The second flag uses a more ambiguous-fetus, as to appeal to sysmates within systems that are having nonhuman babies.

The third flag uses egg symbols, for sysmates that lay eggs.

The fourth flag uses a symbol of mist, for sysmates that do not experience pregnancy or eggs, but something else entirely.

Rotationship: a term used to describe a polyamorous relationship where four (or more) people regularly swap out partners, on scheduled or semi-scheduled basis. This swap could be an even or odd number. If the partners are close-enough, they can still see each other on dates/meetups, it is simply their housing that is swapped.

Here are a few examples of how this may apply:

- A person in a V relationship, where they rotate between the two houses of each of their partners.

- Two married couples that meet and fall in love with each other, forming a quad. They decide to continue living apart, but swap spouses every week.

- A pentad (five partners) that live in different provinces. One house is in Qinghai with three partners, the other house is in Taiwan and has two partners. Every six months, two partners in Qinghai swap with the one partner in Taiwan.

The flag uses the typical polyamory colors of red, black, blue, white, and yellow. The red and blue stripes represent the respective homes of the swappers, while the white arrows represent the partners that are swapping. The yellow heart signifies love of any kind, whether it is romantic, sexual, queerplatonic, or alterous.

Lee was originally found by Angel Dust on the streets, absolutely panicked when he first entered Hell and looking for a safe place to stay. Angel Dust brought Lee to the hotel, Husk and Charlie helping to calm him down. The three have been protective of him ever since. Alastor formed a connection to Lee through being nosy, and one of the few, outside of Angel Dust, who visited Lee in his room. Unlike others, Lee finds Alastor more charming than intimidating. They bond over their love of music and verbal passions. Alastor is very accepting of Lee being plural. Slowly, Alastor coaxes Lee out of his room more and more often. On one of these occasions, Lucifer was visiting to keep an eye on the hotel and help out Charlie. Lee quickly formed a bond with the lovable and just as accepting dork, developing a crush Alastor is reluctant to accept. However, with Lee gently forming the bridge between the two, they glow closer and closer. Eventually, Lucifer cuts to the chase, asking about Lee's feelings. Lee admits to liking them both and, eventually, the three come to an arrangement. An arrangement Lucifer and Alastor are quite happy with, despite struggling to let it slip how much they enjoy the other's company. As for Vox, Lee accidentally bumped into him on the street after seeing him on TV. This made Lee feel extremely shy and panic, Vox panicking about being uncertain how to comfort Lee. Vox eventually offers to take Lee out for coffee and Lee eventually agrees. Lee is quite shocked to find a connection with Vox, relating to his need for validation, the fact he's more sensitive than he lets on, and his dry attitude. The two are on the same wavelength to the point they can finish each other's sentences, causing them to become fast friends.

TW: Physical abuse mention

After Val nearly breaks Vox's screen beyond repair, Vox finally leaves the Vees and flees to the hotel at Lee's recommendation. There, Vox meets the others, and becomes even closer to Lee and the polycule.

Platonic

Somewhat my default, or at least by far and away what I have the most experience with. Too broad to really have much useful to say here. :’D

Though I do feel it’s worth calling out: Diamond is all for queerplatonic relationships, platonic life partnerships, etc.

Even short of those dynamics, his friendships tend to be queer in undefined ways! He just. Has very little truck with relationship norms in general sldkfhsdg.

Familial

ALRIGHT SO. Diamond will unofficially adopt people left and right, whether it’s a good idea or not. Send him someone under 30 who could use his support and we’re in business sdlfdshgdkf.

He is also an Actual Foster Parent or adoptive parent semi-regularly, so if you have a muse in the system where you want to go that route, that’s entirely plausible! Or like, AUs where it might happen for political or magic reasons, that could potentially be interesting.

On the other end of things, I have also definitely been interested in trying more threads with Diamond as a child of late. Just… massive potential for several different strange dynamics that I think could be v. fun! (Maybe he’s the one getting adopted?)

ALSO. Definitely open for potentially plotting blood relations as well? Like, either inserting one of his incarnations somewhere in any of your muses’ family trees — uncle? cousin? nephew? — or some kind of stronger AU. (I have not fleshed out his Martian family at all. So. First life is a possibility! Or full AUs where Diamond is more mundane and not immortal, hah.)

(I also think he’d be simultaneously a Pain In The Ass while also v. supportive in sibling dynamics…)

Romantic and/or Sexual

Diamond will have casual flings with physical age peers! But for actual more deeply involved partnerships, he definitely tends to gravitate to older folk. (Whether that’s just normal meaning of older, or fellow immortals.)

Which isn’t to say that he never gets more involved with young adults; if he were going to be too paranoid about shit he’d almost never date at all, and he figures that at some point he just has to trust his own intentions & the other person’s judgement. (Or remove himself from the situation when he doesn’t.)

But it is definitely less likely. You kind of have to manage to dodge the caretaking impulses first for it to even come up, hah.

Threads in his first life and AUs without the whole reincarnation thing are also definitely a possibility. 👀

Antagonistic

In theory I am interested. In practice this does not come naturally to me and I suspect I’d need to follow your lead to get very far. 😂

Diamond can be snippy, bossy, arrogant, and even a bit petty at times, so there is fodder! Off the top of my head I feel like Professional Rivalry or Practical Conflict might be most promising? Some practical reason for our muses to be at odds.

i have a hard time seeing canon wangxian inviting another person or persons into their romantic/sexual relationship. it feels way too ooc for me to buy. what i can kind of see is wangxian having a post canon nebulous sort of queerplatonic/chosen family thing going with wen ning. wei wuxian loves him and i think lan wangji could easily become very fond of him. he’s the sort of person lwj would admire and enjoy being around, and the two of them already respect and appreciate each other, drunk!ji’s shenanigans aside. i find it believable that wangxian could and would offer him whatever platonic physical and emotional comfort he needs

he has sizhui, but that connection is wholly familial. uncle&nephew is a v different dynamic to having life partners, and i suppose i want him to have as much loving support as possible? along with the respect and friendship he deserves

(wifi notices, ofc he notices most things even if he doesn’t immediately suss the emotional implications. in this case tho, he knows them both down to the ground and he susses immediately that this is the cutest thing to ever happen and then he invents a talisman for preserving images b/c that is an image that needs to be preserved so he is ready for the next time it happens)

Aspen/Eli - v:: closed walls - The energy of one plays off the energy of the other. Aspen’s gentle and vigorous nature resounds off of Eli’s nervous one. He tries to share the optimism he has, and Eli seems to respond to it. In no way does Aspen expect Eli to match him however. Instead he just fetches and carries gladly for the healer.

- Eli surprises Aspen by offering healing. Aspen comments he doesn’t need any, but when it comes down to it, the elf breaks down to the man about the family he misses. The mistreatment and the problems that they encountered. More so; the wife he hadn’t chosen for himself and the children he fathered. - After Eli’s condition is revealed, he is surprised to see Aspen come to him as easily and casually as ever. Aspen grins when Eli asks and reminds him that Eli is a good man. Nothing could change that, and that he would help him in any way he can.

Cypress/Eli - v::Circle towers

- Working side by side with a human is hard for Cypress, but Cypress is rather impressed with the skill that Eli shows with his gift. He’s even more impressed when he notices that Eli never uses lyirum potions. The sheer depth of his mana pool startles Cypress.

- Cypress does eventually begin to talk more freely with Eli, mostly about methods to apply magic. Personally the mage is much more tight lipped than his brother, though after Aspen does have his crack, Cypress personally thanks him for being there. - Cypress at some point confronts Eli about the sunburst mark. The two of them worked too closely for him to miss it and Cypress knows what it is. He asks directly how, but when Eli stutters, Cypress backs off and leaves without word or answer.

Zian/Nate

- While he doesn’t like to speak of it to anyone, Zian tells Nate some details about his history. He does so more to warn him of the potential danger. Nate thanks him, sympathizes and assures Zian, that in his way, that he trusts him. (v:: Sa’vunin) - When Nate learns of his ability to paint, he expresses curiosity. Zian offers to paint for him, a trade for one of the drawings Nate did. Initially Nate did not agree, and Zian offered to paint on him anyway. He was pleasantly surprised when Nate gave him a drawing anyway. It’s one of the things that Zian is annoyed he had to leave behind. Nate has given him another since but even so… (Writing Verse) - Zian never truly chases away his anxiety about Nate going on independent assignments as a huntsman. While he manages the anxiety as best he can, he’s always pushing himself to be better so that he can do his best to prepare Nate. Research, combat, energy exercises. Zian is proud however, because he knows Nate is better in that occupation than he ever could be. (epilogue)

Cypress/Willow- Cypress is glad when he realizes Willow is seemingly immortal himself. Cy then becomes very concerned when he notices signs of aging in himself. Seemingly randomly he finds willow and holds onto him for a long time, oblivious to Willows attempts to get him to talk. He apologizes again and again. While Azalee’s state helps, Cypress worries for Willow regardless. (v:: Knowledge Spirit) - Cypress can’t help but tease Willow about the term that would be used to describe him in a queerplatonic relation. It’s just too fun to reference him as a Zucchini. He doesn’t do it often, but there are subtle barbs. Like an occasional mention of eating one or a shirt with a picture of one as a gag gift. Yet if anyone makes commentary, Cypress makes very cutting comments to defend his brother’s relation. (v:: Mercurial Will) - Cypress highly approves of Davids friendship with Willow. Cypress only wishes that his own tension with his brother didn’t seem to keep the two of them from being closer. He intentionally keeps himself away when the two of them spend time together as to not sully the atmosphere for them. (most verses)

Hey I think I'm aromantic or at least I'm heavily arospec. I've been thinking about my relationships to people and the way I feel attractions recently. I have identified as quiromantic for longer than I've even known that I was transgender, because I had really strong attachments and attractions to many (read: all) of my close friends, and I always thought that my autistic brain simply filed friendship and romance together. But after talking to an aromantic person (my best friend ^.^ ) and doing some soul searching, I've noticed that romance is not really something that I want for myself. Now, I'm not repulsed by romance, and love to see other people be in love with each other, but if I think about rose petals and going to french restaurants and feeding each other fondue and proposing and engagements and having a wedding, it all just feels wrong. What I would honestly rather have is a handful of people I share my life with, live alongside, be affectionate with, and basically exhibit queerplatonic relationships with. I'm not sure how much of that has to do with mental illness, abuse, trauma, touch starvation, social isolation, gender dysphoria, dissociation, and my neurodivergence, and how much has to do with being a part of my identity that I just never really understood, but I figure it doesn't matter because it's how I identify.

I want to have children. I of course can't. I could use a proxy uterus and donated sperm, or adopt. Adoption is a perfectly valid option, and one I really want to do once my own life is in order, because I want to have kids. But that plan doesn't include a husband or a wife or even a spouse of other (or lack of) gender. It never did. There is an OC of mine that I put a lot more work and backstory into, all subconsciously of course, and coincidentally she just so happens to want the same thing. She also happens to be a christian feminist punk rock musician from a large family who plays bass guitar and thought she was straight until she realized that she was a bisexual aromantic... which is literally me (except I'm not and never have been in a punk band, though after discovering Against Me! I really kind of want to be). She has always been my favorite though I would never admit it out loud until now. And a big part of her plot arc is that she eventually gets pregnant from a one night stand and wants to carry it to term and has a baby and all of her bandmates are the cool aunts (and one uncle) because she loves them all and is glad that they have their own romantic partners but still include her in their life, and I think I realize now just how much I was projecting into her. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if in a past life I was raised Irish Catholic too, or if my best friend was a deaf Korean girl with down's syndrome. For fucks sake even her aesthetic is how I want to look and dress like!

So yeah, I think I'm aro. It would help explain why I have such a fiery conviction to defend asexual and aromantic people from dumbass dickheads on this closed minded and hypocritically bigoted hellsite. The approaching V Day is what got me thinking about stuff and just why it is that this is the only year that I've ever not just felt like complete shit for not having a ~valentine~ lined up for like... since I was 11. My mom and grandmothers and more specifically the chocolates that they bought me were all that I needed until my peers started holding each other's hands with each other, and I was envious. The other boys got to be as physically affectionate with the girls as they were with each other, and all I wanted was a hug and somebody to sit next to at lunch time and have a sleepover and all sorts of stuff because little me didn't know that I was a girl in a boy's body and so just watched through glass as everybody else got to be a normal kid. That sense of isolation just got muddled even further once everyone hit puberty and everybody was suddenly hot and I only had public school pamphlet and my mom's playboy collection (it was only missing the drew barrymore issue because my dad stole it, lol) for advice and since that's all heteronormative as shit (no wonder I was such a fucking gremlin for so long...) and emotions were confusing and I thought that I was in love with literally every single girl who was nice to me once since surely the warm fuzzy feeling of making a new friend was TRUE LOVE, right??? And every single Valentine's Day just got harder and harder because everybody around me seemingly had somebody to be super close with, and I just didn't. Two years ago I was hella depressed because three years ago my girlfriend, the only one I ever had, cut me off and cheated on me after I told her I was trans, and one year ago I had just gotten fired and didn't have time to worry about that (plus I was high on toxic fumes from that shithole of a factory). Now, I just... can't be bothered to worry, not the least because I'm gonna be celebrating Fuck Valentine's Day Day with my (trans and aro) best friend and current biggest queerplatonic plush, where we'll hopefully be watching The Shape of Water together ^.^ because nothing says "Fuck Valentine's Day" like The Movie That Should Have Been Titled Pacific Rim??? If this was a few years ago we'd be watching Deadpool instead, lol.

Multi-Couples/Multi-Friendships - "Shout" (The Joy & Pain of My Queerplatonic Relationship) - WYA

Song is called “Shout” and is by Ross Copperman. This video was a NIGHTMARE to edit and render because idk, my software just KEPT crashing, GOSH it was trying to kill me I swear.

This was made for season 2, round 2 of GlowingAprilSky's "Who You Are" contest, this time themed around "The Relationship". (Round 1, “Breaking Point” I entered with a fanvideo tribute to embracing my asexuality & sex-aversion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqRr60lP444 ) The idea for this round was to show a person who helped really change who we are going forward in our life, basically. We participants in the contest were supposed to focus on capturing how they affected us, and how they shaped who we are.

YouTube descriptions have character limits but tumblr doesn’t so look under the “~~~~~” for more stuff than what I could fit in my YouTube description! I transcribed the voiceovers down there too.

Urban Dictionary begins defining Queerplatonic as "a relationship which is more intense and intimate than is considered common or normal for a 'friendship', but doesn't fit the traditional sexual-romantic couple model."

Every Queerplatonic Relationship (QPR) or set of Queerplatonic Partners (QPP) is different, chooses the terminology for different reasons, and that's really the beauty of it. This is a word to describe everything that was forgotten in mainstream culture's narrow boxes of "just friends" vs. "more than friends because of the romantic(&usually sexual too) component". Some sex-averse asexual people are in celibate romantic relationships. But others are in relationships that are "more complicated".

Robert* and I met at an asexual meetup group. I was 25, he was 26. He leaned gay and had no attraction towards women (I'm female) but we bonded quickly over having a lot in common, and became close friends. I wasn't sure if I was aromantic or panromantic or what, but I knew in the back of my mind I'd like a queerplatonic partner one day. We had a lot of fun, went to concerts together, played board games, watched TV/films, talked about families and pasts including the deep personal stuff, the traumas. He shared about his mental health with me.

At some point along the way, we realized we wanted similar futures. We both had wanted, since long before we met each other, to become foster parents and later adoptive parents. We were both atheists & while I'd planned to wait to start looking for a qpp to be a co-parent for my future children until after I was no longer unemployed, maybe after I'd figured out where I'd live in the country and stuff, it just happened sooner than I was ready. It was too perfect, too good to pass up, and after we'd known each other for about 7 months we stopped just being super close friends. We became queerplatonic partners. We didn't do anything really different, but we had this shared plan to one day be committed life partners and to for now be logical "plus ones" to events where people might bring significant others, such as his siblings' weddings. We were "together".

He broke up with me the 1st time after we'd been QPPs for 4 months. I was really crushed but happy we were at least still friends. It took some time to get back into a groove. We weren't as close. He ended it because he wasn't sure anymore he wanted that future and because he'd been hoping to feel more romantic things for me with time but instead his feelings had remained platonic. He was super important to me, & he'd told me before we broke up that he was thinking of signing up to deploy (as a U.S. civilian contractor) to Afghanistan.

He ultimately did leave to go on the 6 month deployment about 2 weeks into me finally having a full time job, long after we'd broken up. But we started texting more, while he was over there. (Facebook messaging, actually.) Our friendship's closeness was rekindled. We each had lots of down time during workdays, and we got back together around 1 month into his deployment.

We talked about everything for the 5 months we were in a long distance relationship, shared our lives with each other, and were "together". I told him I looked forward to slow dancing with him one day, and ice skating, etc... we rekindled our plans to become non-biological parents....

Skipping over some details he broke up with me only days after we first saw each other in person for the first time in 6 months. He texted, said he "Couldn't do this anymore", and when I tried to ask why he said he got a call but we'd talk more the next day.

I had texted a little more after that, asking if our near future plans to do a suicide prevention walk together etc were definitely off (because last time we still did some things together as friends, I thought maybe it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility).

He never texted back, never contacted me again. I feel kinda like I was ghosted, abandoned. He never explained why we suddenly after 2 years were just... nothing. This was 6 months ago.

This vid should hopefully capture a lot of that (& more?). (Btw: I purposely didn't show ANY kissing.)

Some of the details I skipped over were that while I was with him, I realized how “demisensual” I am, not demisexual, I’m 100% asexual, but rather the “Sensual” suffix - I do not crave touch at all in my relationships unless I have a strong emotional bond, but I looked forward to reuniting and hugging him for months, and I did and it was a glorious hug when he was back home.

I also started fantasizing about maybe marrying him, or thinking about legality of adopting together if we weren’t married and how that probably would be impractical... and how we would or wouldn’t queer the wedding, and do it secularly without religion because that’s important to us, and how I probably wouldn’t want to wear white and stuff... but I was scared to voice these fantasies too early and scare him away.

Also we gave each other gifts by mail even during those 5 months when we were long-distance, and over the course of our relationship before that too. That was a pretty good indicator of how close we’d gotten, he bought be an iPod, gave me a necklace I liked to wear, I picked out gifts for him really carefully for Christmas too, etc.

But how did this relationship change who I am or the course of my life/my future? I mean, because of Robert I realized it’s possible for me to fall in love, and it made my dream of finding a co-parent despite my orientation seem tangible, it gave me hope and optimism for a time, showed me how much joy I was capable. For a while there I had started basically thinking of him as my fiance, I felt that committed to him.

I could tell things weren't perfect, especially at the end, but I couldn't tell for sure where his mind was at. I was waiting till we were alone and in person together and it basically never came. I was a little worried about him & his mental state near the end, also just worried about us. The time we spent together when he first got back was mainly in groups with other friends though so we didn’t get privacy.

I kinda sorta saw it coming here and there. He seemed a little afraid to commit to me, and much more closeted than me about any of his non-straightness, him being gay-gray-asexual, the gay part was hard given his upbringing and the asexual part he acted like was more private but I... I am not private about this stuff. Lol see this video I just made. So that was part of why I wanted to include David/Keith from Six Feet Under and capture the complexities of internalized homophobia/wishing he was straight/”using me” to be able to say he had a “Girlfriend” as a good thing for his reputation in front of his straight guy friends/co-workers while I kinda felt like I was lying every time I might call him my boyfriend maybe to a co-worker. The whole thing was more complicated than I can really explain right now, but I wanted to try.

After he left me with no explanation of why he “can’t do this relationship anymore”, why we couldn’t even stay friends, with nothing more than answering my initial “Was it something I did??” with a “Not really”, uh... my heart was shattered and I was so angry and so heartbroken and... at first I was a little worried he might be struggling so much mentally that he’d be suicidal and I was checking to see that he still was “Active” on Facebook sometime that day so I’d, I guess be assured he was fine.

He showed me how much grief and sadness I really can feel over a breakup, he affected how I think of so many little things with a twinge of sadness for 6 months now, he may not be the love of my life, but he will always be my first real love. He wasn’t my first boyfriend. But he was my first queerplatonic partner, the first person I fell in love with, and the first relationship I truly had to learn to mourn. He will always be “a” love of my life, in my life story I’ll never forget him. Those 2 years were so significant.

He also has made it really hard for me to forsee ever trusting that a person really means it when they tell me how much they’re looking forward to plans for the future, how committed they are, how much they care about me, etc, because of how suddenly he changed his stances on everything. He left me traumatized to just suddenly go from assuring me yes he wanted to spend Memorial Day in two weeks with me and sending me cards in the mail expressing how happy he was to see me again in person soon, and then the next day be breaking up with me and cutting off all contact whatsoever, ending our friendship and acquaintance entirely. It gave me whiplash. It made me doubt my instincts about other people, and I’m going to have to make an effort to not let him taint any future relationship, if I’m so lucky to one day have one. Which. I’m not holding my breath there...

Because yeah, even now, 6 months later, I am legitimately worried I will never be able to find anyone to co-parent adopted children with who wants a queerplatonic type kissing-free, sex-free relationship with me. I’m trying to think practically about possibly doing the parenting thing single. I just don’t know yet where my life will lead, and if I indeed do any single or joint-parenting thing, it’s still a few years off.

About this video, I wanted to include a mix of friendships and couples to capture how being queerplatonic is neither one nor the other. I’m not “shipping” all these friendships, at least not in the traditional sense. I’m embracing loving them for exactly what they are in canon as a representation of what queerplatonic level bonds can be!

The majority of the ships started as friends and then started kissing/dating, and may or may not have ended up together on the show, but they had this heart to them of deep friendship which helps me relate to them and pushed me to want to include them in this video. I had so many options and some of the ones I chose to include in the end surprised even myself.

Every single pairing in this video remained friends with each other, at the very least, by the end of the TV show, except for the two Parenthood ones and also I think Jake/Peyton never saw each other again. So that’s pretty good, either ending up together or at least being on friendly terms till the end for 18 out of 21 “Ships”. Even one of those two parenthood ones, Ryan & Amber, did end up being co-parents so they are still in each other’s lives, LOL!!

I almost included other model relationships I love on TV shows like Reid/Maeve (Criminal Minds) but so much of their relationship is about literal grief over a death and idk, this is just different. There were tons of choices of ships, more queerplatonic level partnerships in things I watch - remember http://luvtheheaven.tumblr.com/post/155333908172/list-of-queerplatonic-level-relationships-people and well, basically... I watch WAY too much TV. But I ultimately settled on these 21 to get to the heart of what I wanted to go for. I even included two couples I usually consider myself not to ship, Laurel/Oliver and Chloe/Clark. I was never rooting for either, and think Lauriver are much better as friends on Arrow and don’t believe their chemistry, but the way Oliver and Clark act towards Laurel and Chloe respectively really reminds me of some of the moments of unreciprocated feelings Robert seemed to have towards me at times, like he cared deeply but didn’t care as much as I did, etc etc.

But they are more obviously shippable even if you’re not a slash shipper because they both are straight and female/male. Like they totally could end up together on the show and it wouldn’t surprise me if they go there eventually, who really knows. They have compatible sexual orientations is all. They are therefore “more likely” to find each other attractive than either me or my qpp were likely to have those feelings for each other. That’s why I’m putting them down here.
