what's your top three (or more) vale looks?

I deliberated before answering whether I want to show the objectively good looks or the ones where I personally feel crazy so I guess I'll try to balance both. Let's get into it.

1. Eyeball Mugello helmet 2011.

Is it easy on the eyes? No. Does it look truly otherworldly almost terrifying. His own blue eye on the helmet, an ode to a lifetime of being watched and reclaiming the agency in it, the red suit, the yellow motifs of gloves and kneepads.

Leathers in general are some of the most captivating looking sport protective gear and his Ducati red ones being elevated in his trademark fashion, literally I have thought about them every day since I first saw them. It comes together in my mind partly because I love his freak ass so much and partly because if a bunch of alies descended upon earth, he could pass off as a revered human warrior to them lol. To me, it's a high fashion moment ™️.

2. 63rd Venice Film Festival, 2006.

Imo Face card with credit limit that could make Mansa Musa's worldly wealth look like peanuts. Cherubic glow on his face, a vaguely mellow mischievous glint in his eyes, curls settled around his head like a laurel wreath, sideburns framing his face in the trademark hot and iconic fashion. Every red carpet photo from this day is a hit. Fae prince realness served. Imo it also seems like the type of masculinity Vale always wanted to project to the world. Don't google the rest of the outfit he was in some ugly jeans.

3. Hair Color Saga.

Self-explanatory. Cemented him as an idea as a showman in the minds of people. Did it while having fun. Loved that he was on a mission to try as many colors as possible. My personal favourite is the blue hair by far.

4. Misc. Because why not.

That time he looked like a hot dirtbag at Wimbledon and god knows how many inane rules he broke in the process. Sticking it to the man in trademark Vale style.

I love Everyman Hob who loves a pint and to watch a game of footie and is Just A Bloke very much like definitely a premium Hob™️ no question about it, but I admit I also love me Flash Bastard Fashion Icon Hob.

After all, we have just as much evidence of Warrior Hob or Bloke Hob as we do of Fancy Hob who LOVES fashion (1589, 1789, 1989) and gravitates towards the life of a gentleman with all the fanciness and comfort that includes.

Like I can easily see him going through cycles and keeping up with the current fashion and sometimes that means largely ignoring Fashion, but one thing that makes Hob so interesting and unique to me is that he isn’t all one thing, isn’t all good (by far) or always ordinary and avoiding the spotlight, his definition of “just a bloke” has changed over time and he has also been self important and living on the cutting edge of refinement as often as he’s lived what from the outside looks like an ordinary life.

What an EPIC night, Brother Jamel Shabazz received the prestigious @luciefoundation Award presented by Peter Kunhardt, Jr. Executive Director for The Gordon Parks Foundation at Carnegie Hall… So well deserved.

Jamel Shabazz is best known for his iconic photographs of New York City during the 1980s. A documentary, fashion, and street photographer, he has authored 12 monographs and contributed to over three dozen other photography related books.

His photographs have been exhibited worldwide and his work is housed within the permanent collections of The Whitney Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, The Studio Museum in Harlem, The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, The Fashion Institute of Technology, The Art Institute of Chicago and the Getty Museum.

Over the years, Shabazz has instructed young students at the Studio Museum in Harlem’s “Expanding the Walls” project, The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture “Teen Curator’s” program, and the Bronx Museum’s “Teen Council.” He is also the 2018 recipient of the Gordon Parks award for excellence in the arts and humanitarianism and the 2022 awardee of the Gordon Parks Foundation/Steidl book prize. His goal as an artist is to contribute to the preservation of world history and culture.

Hey! I found your blog the other day because I was salty and looking through fandom opinions to make myself even saltier. You said something about Ahsoka that made me stop dead. I had to read it several times just to be sure and even then I couldn’t believe it. I thought I was alone in not liking Ahsoka - this entire fandom is set on making her out to be this ✨Super Awesome Special Best Girl Who Does Everything Right All The Time✨ and those are literally the only opinions you hear about her. But right from her introduction I didn’t like her. That’s a rant for another time, but I’m just going to leave it at how I’m so confused by her personality. She grew up in the Temple, right? So why is she so Rebellious™️? Why does she wear a crop top and mini skirt? Why’s she so sassy and rude to people? That’s not normal Padawan behaviour no matter what anyone says. They were just trying to find a marketable character for a children’s show and gave her the personality of every Nickelodeon American Teen Protagonist!

I think you hit the mark on focusing on making her ~relatable to the Youths~ in her intro more than making sense for her character/how a real teenager would act. (Sabine and Ezra felt much more natural to me in that aspect.) I also think part of the issue is something soooo many female characters are forced into - male-dominated fandoms like this tend to be hostile to women (see: Ahsoka's debut period, Rey, Rose, Cara Dune before those types realized the actress was One Of Them, the Kotor fans who are intensely against female Revan or sexualize Mission, etc) so the creator(s) go overboard in trying to make them appealing to that particular loud section of fandom. So Ahsoka wears age- and character-inappropriate clothes*, she's snarky and sassy and "one of the guys." And in this rare case, it worked. She was eventually assimilated. Notice how she's replaced Padme in 99% of official and fandom merch? Padme, a character who is reduced to "sadness" or "fashion icon" (neither as easy to box up and tie with a neat Girlboss bow despite her demonstrated political activism and combat prowess) aka has actual character traits and flaws, reacts to things in a not-always-appealing-to-fandom way but in a way that makes sense for her character, is written to be multifaceted and not just designed to appeal to the common majority? Huh.

(Leia's "she's not a princess anymore she's a general" thing also felt that same way to me and rubbed me the wrong way, but Leia largely escaped Girlbossification because she was already a fully realized character in her own right, and also being created before the internet-style fandom probably helped.)

*Apparently we can lay that at the feet of George "there is no underwear in space" Lucas though. Once Filoni took over Ahsoka started wearing MUCH better outfits. Credit where it's due. (Ripping off Gandalf for your shitty oc still sucks though, let's be clear. But contrast her Rebels and TCW S7 looks with her tube top or cocktail dress for example. And as someone who had boobs about Ahsoka's size at her age, a tube top wouldn't cut it for marching band let alone lightsaber combat. Her first look was AWFUL.)

I'm literally blanking rn but basically, her parents used to be thieves and part of a secret evil organization (her mom was raised there from birth and met her dad at the same school), and after they defeated said organization, they settled down (even started the Scarlet Sheep Orphanage) but ofc the leaders of [organization] weren't gonna let them live happily ever after. So they staged a fire that killed Gray. Scar ran back inside after she saw her father die. She lived with a lot of resentment towards the organization and specifically the people who killed her father, but eventually, she was able to take that grief and do everything she could in her power to ensure justice is always served (literally, she's a fashion icon in my head). i did not forget about this, as a matter of fact i have been frothing at the mouth to answer it, but needed to get on the computer where i have Images to answer it properly.

save rock and roll era now, as i've said several times over, this could be in part because it's My fall out boy era and i hold it near and dear to my heart, but it also could be because his fashion sense was absolutely Perfect during this time. so let's break it down to the parts i love (drool over) the most:

layering: this will be a redundant category because i will be touching on the shirt choices as well, but i love the the jacket-shirt combos during this time. specifically the jean jackets, it makes me wish i too looked good in them but tragically i don't.

shirts: the button ups (or downs, however you say it) are some of my favorites, but i do enjoy a simple fitted black t. bonus points for when he rolls literally all his sleeves - long, short, jacket, shirt. (i also love this image because: why are you so disgusted, bb?)

hair / beard: the length was just right for poking out from under his hats, the fluff, the volume was *chefs kiss* when it was freed. i just love it. and how can i not love the beard? 2013 jingle ball era patrick is top tier for me.

honorary mention: american beauty/american psycho era looks:

this last image has been the wallpaper on my phone for months (tho a lighter edit) because he's just so. ugh. the lip bite gets me (see icon as well aksjdks).

also can i lastly say, the stump-o-matic is truly just as important as any article of clothing to me in terms of his stage looks. it really completes some of his fits for me because it's His and not just Some Guitar that Some Guy uses. weird, maybe, but it too is part of my favorite looks :')

glance :: at first glance, what stands out most about your oc's appearance? what's their distinguishing feature?

there are a plethora of things that stand out in josana's physical appearance as she is very conventionally beautiful and holds the beauty standard among other noble ladies within the westerlands. for the sake of this ask, i'll only answer one (1) which are her strikingly emerald green eyes as they can captivate anyone's attention if she looked their way. they're alluring, mesmerizing, and even hypnotic, especially towards men ( woman are susceptible as well, but mainly men ). it's one of josana's many physical features that she uses to her advantage, whether it's for something major or not.

motion :: how does your oc move? how does their clothing help or hinder their range of motion? are they flexible, coordinated, clumsy?

she moves very gracefully and proudly, like a proper lady of her status. she walks with her head held high, shoulders back, and hands clasped behind her back. her clothing can hinder her range of motion since her dresses and undergarments has lots of layers/fabric so they can be a bit heavy, but she's grown used to the added weight after so many years of wearing them. as for her flexibility and coordination, she's able to ride a horse ( my lil semi-horse girly ), but that's that extent of it. she's a piss-poor fighter which is an overstatement bc homegirl gets to stab one (1) guy and she doesn't even kill him, and she doesn't want to be one either as it's not her role nor duty as a noble lady.

Needless to say, it’s fascinating to hear Louis talk and see him too. I loved the footage from the stage - since it’s filmed from behind, we get a whole new perspective from what we saw in the livestreams. He looks so good on stage! He's in his element! He's magnetic!!! I love him.

It's great to see his bandmates featured so much, and to see how the big venues were also important to them, and how they bonded and how Louis is a special person. Also loved his family and his friends being featured. Some parts about his mom were very emotional and I appreciate that they showed a moment in which it's his granddad that cries - as we know it's not often that we see men crying. And I could see so much of Louis in his grandpa, especially the sense of humour. Matt V and Chris can fuck off tho <3

Honestly, i love how funny he is?? like he is definitely overly memed on, and it's gotten old, but a lot of those moments just on their own are so funny to me SJKDHVS like the whole "how many breads have you eaten" line is so ????? why did u say that king..... and honestly i dont think he gets enough credit for the whole Muda shtick like hes the first (i think?) character to start the whole catchphrase thing back in part 1, pre stands, and it's again. not complaining, but what went through ur mind in making that decision, bud. plus the weird little homunculi he just made for funsies in part 1?? a real comedian 10/10

His fashion!! i genuinely LOVE his fits and all the little details in them so much, including the ones he wears in one off illustrations. the leathery, feathery, one is his best looks EVER and i honestly kinda wish it wouldve been in part 3. wouldve been very Lestat. ALSO this includes the Moorish shoes!!! i think they tie in his themes and design SO WELL and im tired of people clowning on them

His impact on the story! Dio Brando really, truly is That Guy™️ i love that he continuously haunts the narrative (at least in parts 1-6) and even with Diego, who is a different character, but still undeniably Dio. just as a reader/watcher getting through the ENTIRE old universe and finally feeling like dio and his mess is done forever just for Diego to show up in part 7 is just really funny to me, esp with how similar Diego is to Dio as opposed to Johnny and Jonathan or really a lot of the other counterparts. You can't get rid of him.

I thank Araki every day for that character sheet he released last year bc Dio intending to have a soft voice is SO GOOD to me. like i love both anime performances a ton and they're iconic and fit the whole over the top theme of it all, but big, scary, villains with smooth, level, soft voices is my kryptonite 😩 ive thought of it before, but if i had to pick like. an actual more "realistic" voice claim for him it would be Harry Lloyd👀 loved him in game of thrones, and his character voice wise in that def has RANGE like ii think dio would have, but he also does audiobooks and they're SO lovely to listen to💖

The way Araki ties him to the Arts, as pretentious as that sounds💀 i think depicting him as someone who appreciates art, literature, and philosophy makes him SO FUN to play with from a fan/creator perspective. i feel like it's a great way to toy around with other bits of symbolism and really expand on him in art and fics.

throwing in a sixth, but i like his dumb face unfortunately!!! Sorry i know this is a shock to all!!! but esp his character model in asbr/over heaven.........so handsome😔 THAT is pookie right there
