thinking about janosh and adder when the devil’s den gets festive, thinking how those two must be the dancers of the group.
someone busts out a lute and maybe the crowd starts stomping feet or clapping to the beat. and adder is the first one to immediately look at janosh, to drag him up by the arm mid-drink, and they start laughing drunk and merry. i bet they’d nail the folklore dances, the very fast and upbeat ones with lots of twists and turns and twirls, a lot of grabbing on both parts and lifting your dance partner in the air.
and it’s the best entertainment in the den, adder yelling louder than the music, teasing janosh he’s the woman in the dance because his green tunic keeps twirling like a dress. and someone whistles at that and janosh flips him off and retaliates by yanking him closer, spinning so fast adder's hair comes loose, and adder whoops so loud the whole place claps along.
and it’s not even a performance, not really—just two idiots who’ve done this a hundred times before, who know the steps all too well. someone throws them a tankard mid-spin and they pass it back and forth between moves.
later, they’re breathless on the bench, laughing, wet, sweaty, flushed, and janosh grumbles that his ribs are sore from adder hauling him around like a sack of grain. adder just grinning like the spitfire he is, already asking if he wants to go again when the next song starts up. and maybe they do. because there's no battle to be fought. because for once, there’s nothing to do but dance.

@mistermxrgan continued from here: Arthur lifted his head to see the man make his entry back at camp, he was sat at his bed, tinkering with some of his weapons to ensure they would function properly when the time mattered. "Yeah, just making sure I don't get any misfires." He then paused his actions to focus on him. "What about you? Been off hunting? Or making more money for Dutch?"
He nodded. "Out hunting. I did stop by Valentine on the way back, Hosea asked me to grab some supplies while I was gone. Managed to get a deer for Pearson." He looked back to his horse which had the deer on it's back.

"It just don't really look that way, ma'am--" He sighed, his eyes looking away to Dutch's tent before back at her.
"I don't think a woman like you should settle for someone like him. Dutch's not paying attention to ya like he should. If he does love you; he has a hell of a bad way of showing it."
"Miss O'Shea, why are ya still with that fella? He don't really treat you right." / Frank (OC) for Molly!
- @pistolshot
molly’s green eyes flashed for a moment , indignation and fear flickering behind her painted lashes . she drew herself up slightly , corset cinching tightly around her ribs as she clutched her silk shawl tighter around her shoulders .
" yes , he does . he loves me ! " she snapped , the words brittle , like glass under pressure .

Henry tripped into his bedroom at the Devil's Den, squinting bleary-eyed around the dark room; honestly, this was the last time he'd let Godwin get him drunk. Spotting the body lying in the bed on the other side of the room, Henry grinned stupidly and clumsily removed his boots as he made his way towards Hans.
"Sorry I took so long," he whispered, fighting to get his shirt over his head. When he succeeded, he crawled behind Hans and nuzzled into his neck, mumbling, "I missed you, baby."
Hans sighed but the voice that replied was definitely not that of the lord he knew so well, "Henry, I'm going to give you two seconds to get the fuck away from me before I rip you in half."
Henry jumped away from Dry Devil like he'd been burned which meant he tumbled off teh bed and onto the floor. With a speed he didn't know he was capable of, he gathered his clothes and ran from the room and burst into the one next door.
Panting, Henry dropped his clothes and rubbed a hand over his face. Hans, the real Hans, he hoped, was sleeping in Henry's bed, oblivious to what had almost happened next door. He shuddered, marching towards Hans. He stared down at him, prodding him none too gently in the face.
"Henry...knock it off," the nobleman stirred, batting his hand away. He opened his eyes, rubbing them to wake himself up, "what's the matter with you?"
Henry nudged Hans aside, forcing him to shuffle along the bed so he could climb into bed beside him. Henry held his lord, relaxing finally, "I'll tell you tomorrow."
"Judging by the smell, I suppose Schnapps was involved?" He asked but Henry was already fast asleep, snoring into his chest. Hans rolled his eyes fondly.
-
Henry groaned into the wooden bench, barely touching his breakfast. Hans was hardly sympathetic, reminding Henry every now and then that he only had himself to blame. He raised his head to reply with some witty remark only to find Hynek standing at their table, grinning at him.
"Henry, how you feeling this morning?" He didn't wait for answer, turning to Hans, "if I were you, pal, I'd get some tips from Adder. I don't think this one," he gestured his thumb in a blushing Henry's direction, "is feeling very satisfied."
He left, then, laughing maniacally as he walked off towards the combat arena. Hans glanced at him in amusement whilst Henry wished he was anywhere else.
"I may have gone into the wrong room last night."
Under any other circumstances, Hans' gleeful laughter would be music to his ears. Right now, however, he wanted to strangle him. He was going to kill Godwin.

WIP Wednesday
I will start, since I haven't seen any yet today c: I would love to see what you're working on, but no pressure @elfroot-and-laurels @greypetrel @layalu @inquisimer @pinayelf @ndostairlyrium @star--nymph @chanafehs @bitchesofostwick! And since I thought I posted some of this somewhere but can't find it, here's a bit of a fic about Teia and Viago immediately post-"Eight Little Talons." This is pure Tevinter Nights era, no Veilguard spoilers of any sort.
(Teia/Viago | 599 Words | CW: Suggestive language)
A cabinet opened in the kitchen, followed by another.
“Not that one,” she told him, and stepped into the candlelight of the next room. “Do you want a hint?”
He wouldn’t. Not her Vi. Too stubborn—too proud. He would search every cabinet in her kitchen and pretend he’d always intended to drink straight from the bottle when he found nothing there.
“I can—” he began, but turned to look at her and stopped mid-sentence.
“Can you?” she asked. He cast her a disapproving look that did nothing to disguise the heat in his eyes.
Here. He was here. And she…
“You don’t want even a little help?” she asked, producing two wineglasses from behind her back. “And here I thought we worked so well together.”
Slowly, Viago closed the cabinet before him. Slowly, he leaned back against the counter and crossed his arms. His walking cane leaned against the counter beside him, looking as innocuous as something could when filled with a dozen vials of poison, acid, and Maker knew what else. It did not surprise her that he’d come here armed. There were at least three daggers on her person right now, after all. They were Talons; this did not mean that they took their safety for granted.
“Any tests you’d like to perform on them before we drink?” she asked, stepping closer. She’d left off her shoes, so she moved almost silently over the familiar floorboards. He watched her all the way, almost entirely still. If she hadn’t been watching the muscles in his upper arms twitching, Teia might have thought he was entirely unmoved.
“My arm is still bruised from the adder,” he said, and lifted a gloved hand to touch the spot in question. “If you wanted me poisoned or dead, you could have let me die then.”
“Ah, but what if someone infiltrated my rooms, poisoned the wine rims, and snuck out the window? she smiled at him, feeling the brush of the loose skirt against her calves when she stopped just before him. “What would you do then, Vi?”
He was looking at her mouth. He’d done so before, with his hand pressed to her chin. He’d slid one of his mixtures over her lips with his gloved fingertip, so slow and thorough that there’d been no mistaking his attraction to her for anything else.
She wanted him to touch her. Not just his forehead to hers, his thigh pressed hard between her legs while they rocked against each other. Teia wanted his bare skin—unwound, unbound from the layers of protective clothing—pressed to hers. It had felt too good before. She hadn’t been able to stop thinking about it. She wanted him to be as desperate, as distracted as she was.
Viago said nothing. He looked down at her, perfectly still.
Come on, she thought. She shifted closer—just close enough that the hem of her dress brushed against the leather of his trousers.
He moved fast, she had to give him that. She would have been faster if she’d wanted to be, but she didn’t. She wanted him to do exactly what he was doing now: pressing her back against the counter, hips flush with hers.
“What then?” Viago asked, lowering his head until his cheek was only an inch from hers. He’d taken the glasses from her hand when he’d spun the two of them around. Now he reached past her, taking the bottle from the counter. She listened to the wine fill one glass, then the next.
“Then you will have to find another antidote,” he said, voice low and silken.

Since I'm super deep into the maurauders fandom atm but have also just read aftg here are my opinions on wich aftg chracter has wich patronus 🤌✨:
Neil Josten: Falcon - Falcons have a keen eye and are among the fastest creatures on earth. If your Patronus is a falcon, you may have been a troubled soul who decided to cast away their old, evil habits to fly down the hard, right path. Your nature pulls you to the dark, but you’ve chosen to live for the light - The falcon also represents breaking free from slavery. Now that you are free, you are flying in the light, and no one can stop you, not even Dementors!
Andrew Minyard: Hippogriff - The hippogriff is a proud and dangerous creature. They are half eagle, half horse, the offspring of a horse and griffin. If your Patronus is a hippogriff, you likely have a demeanor that commands respect or else. You’ve been known to fiercely defend those you’re loyal to and lash out at those who don’t earn your respect. At the same time, you are capable of growing to love former enemies - after a bloody battle.
Kevin Day: Heron - The heron is known for its outstanding determination and intelligence. Herons live in three elements: water, earth, and air, revealing that the animal appreciates diversity. You have a mind like no other and work on whatever you’re working on until you’ve finished it.
Nicky Hemmick: Hedgehog - Cute and loveable inside and out, those who possess a hedgehog Patronus may thrive on giving and receiving love and may feel they need more of it than others realize. While upfront about their endearment and affectionate personality, hedgehogs are also known to be anxious and overly cautious. They often worry about their own and others of their kind’s safety. Those around must approach the hedgehog with care and precision, though, because when defensive and hurt, hedgehogs are remembered not for their sweetness, but for their sharp spikes.
Renee Walker: Adder - The common European adder or common European viper is a venomous snake that can be found throughout Europe. Adders are not normally aggressive and tend to only bite when they are threatened in some way.
Dan Wilds: Orca - It’s no mistake that orcas are nicknamed “killer whales.” They are one of the most effective hunters in the ocean. Orcas use teamwork and complex communication skills to hunt and the same cunning to protect their young. With the fierce, calculated protection of an orca on your side, you can rest assured that the Dementors will be no match for you.
Matt Boyd: Black Bear - The formidable form of the black bear is often enough to scare away even the bravest of explorers, not to mention Dementors! Often mistaken as a deadly predator, the black bear mostly feasts on berries, grasses, and roots complemented with fish and carrion. This is often how people see you - a fierce opponent who will protect yourself and those close to you but who has a softer side hidden away from the world. Black bears are known for their adaptability, and this is often seen in how resourceful you can be. No matter the situation you find yourself in, when you come to call upon your Patronus, the black bear will be fully prepared to fight in your corner.
Allison Reynolds: Peacock - Peacocks are ground-dwelling birds known for their beautiful eye-shaped plumage. These birds extend their feathers not only to attract mates but more importantly, to appear more intimidating to predators. With feathers that make up over 60% of their total length, it gets the job done. Peacocks are easily irritated and would make a fierce and gorgeous Patronus.
Aaron Minyard: Lynx - The lynx is a solitary wild cat. They hunt alone, using their great sense of hearing and their stealth to move through the forests without being seen by either their prey or those who may be watching. When they do strike, they are fast enough to even catch snowshoe hares. Dementors won’t know what hit them!

You might be surprised to hear that every arena of human endeavour has weird perverts who try hard to rattle the cage of normal, hard-working people. For me, it's obviously my vast collection of rattle-trap Malaise Era semi-destroyed vehicles. I've always been interested in meeting freaks in other industries and hearing long diatribes about extreme technical details that I don't really care about, so when my cousin finally retired from his job at the newspaper, I lifted his "Press" pass from his bedroom dresser when he thought I was having a heart attack at Thanksgiving dinner.
Turns out I didn't really need to do that, because my dentist is one of those freaks. One of those accidents of geographic proximity brought him to me, and we became fast friends once we each realized what the other had to offer. Dr. Incisor (not his real name; also potentially not a doctor) had a thing for fixing the absolute worst mouths that he could find. Years of working a boring suburbanite dentist clinic had taken their toll on his sanity: fill this cavity, lecture about flossing, do that root canal. Nothing truly ambitious, not at all like the dentists he would read about as a boy in bicuspid-adventure novels.
His deal was simple: he'd pay me in nitrous oxide, under the table. Finally, I could return to the drag strip and beat my rival, Steve "Nipples" Hemingway, in the eighth-mile with the help of a gaseous power-adder blowing its way through the rings of my exceptionally low-compression Slant Six beneath the dimpled hood of one of my many shitrods. In exchange, he expected me to bring to him what he called "project mouths."
If I could locate the worst teeth in the city, and drag them before him, he wouldn't even charge them for dental work. He would, however, broadcast it on his live Twitch channel, which it turns out violated a whole shitload of medical-privacy laws. I told him from the start that he should have dressed up like a cartoon lion, or at least used an anime girl vtuber, but he insisted that the "cowards of medicine" face him on equal footing as he descended into the molar (and moral) hells I placed before him.
I'll never forget his frenzied, angry screaming as they dragged him off to prison for malpractice. Don't worry, I stayed behind to make sure the clinic nitrous tank was safely discharged. Don't want any firefighters showing up. Those folks can be real freaks when they see a cool oxidizer-involved fire.

Read on Ao3
Lucien Vanserra had spent many long hours in his relatively young life wondering if he truly belonged. He had always felt a bit like an outsider, as though he were looking at the rest of the world through a particularly blurred window, especially among his family.
Most of Lucien’s older brothers thought him too sensitive, too weak, hardly someone they considered in their fights for the throne. Eris thought Lucien was too kind and, while Lucien was aware that his eldest brother had tried to teach him how to navigate court life in a way that would please their father, Lucien was also aware that Eris had been largely unsuccessful.
The only quality Beron Vanserra really seemed to truly admire in his youngest son was Lucien’s ability to be a charming, likeable, and arrogant courtier. Arrogance, Lucien knew, was a trait coveted only in the Autumn Court, and none were to be more arrogant than the seven sons of its High Lord.
While Beron usually seemed to enjoy Lucien’s ability to quickly come up with a clever response to any questions that would come his way, Lucien could declare with great confidence that the same could not be said when that sort of behaviour was directed towards him.
“Did you really think I would not know?” The High Lord was standing like a soldier, Lucien thought, back straight and hands clasped behind him, relaxed but ready to act with nothing but a moment’s notice. There were flames in Beron’s dark eyes, the only sign that he was very close to losing his patience.
“Well,” Lucien began, he knew he should not have skipped his training, should not have ignored his father’s wishes, but he had not exactly been thinking of the consequences when he’d made his decision. “I could only hope.”
Beron raised his brows and Lucien bit his tongue to stop himself from saying anything truly ridiculous, he was already going to be in enough trouble as it was.
“You really believe I do not know, do not learn, of everything that happens in my household?” Beron’s tone was low and calm as his accusing eyes slipped from him, Lucien noticed, and he gazed ever so pointedly at the Lady of Autumn.
Lucien did not look at Eris, but he heard the sharp inhale of breath the heir had taken from his place at the High Lord’s side.
Eris, more like a father than anything else, harsh and cutting, but always gentle in the memories of a childhood near forgotten. Lucien couldn’t help but look just past Beron, only for a moment, at the impassive face of his eldest brother. Empty amber eyes flared in warning and Lucien turned his attention to the stone floor of the throne room, angry at himself for wanting even a hint of comfort.
“Look at me,” his father snapped, the dominance in his voice startling. Everyone in the Forest House knew the meaning of such a tone.
Lucien quickly raised his head, suddenly wishing he could be anywhere else. He heard the rustle of his mother’s skirts as she inched closer, pausing a mere step from where Lucien was standing.
“Nothing else you want to add?” Beron asked, the temperature flared in the room, much to Lucien’s discomfort.
His hands were shaking, Lucien noticed, tiny tremors he was sure that the High Lord had spotted. “I’ve grown tired of hearing my own voice,” Lucien replied, just because he could. He added a careless shrug to his words and saw his mother wince at what she knew was about to come.
Beron Vanserra sighed, shaking his head slowly in disappointment. Lucien stiffened his spine and braced himself for the hit he suspected was about to come, waiting for his father to take a few small steps closer. Lucien gasped along with his mother at the resounding crack when the back of his father’s hand landed nothing short of a bruising blow as it caught Eris on the cheek.
Beron had turned quick as an adder, Lucien thought, whirled around so fast that Eris couldn’t have seen it coming. Not like Eris would have moved even if he had, Lucien knew, he’d seen more than enough of the beatings Eris had silently sat through.
“Do you see?” The High Lord directed the question to his heir, voice raised, golden rings a blurred flash as he struck Eris once more.
At that second, brutal hit, Lucien made to rush forward, but his mother grabbed his arm, clawed at his sleeve with her sharp nails.
“Lucien,” she whispered so quietly, “Lucien, please.”
Lucien couldn’t help but pause, eyes still on Eris, as drops of blood, ruby dark, stained the white collar of his brother’s shirt. He did not know what disagreement the High Lord could be referring to with his question, he always felt as though he were the last in his family to learn anything so he barely gave it a second thought.
When Eris hummed his response, an elegant courtier’s “mhm,” Beron snarled.
“Use your words, Eris.” Lucien watched as his eldest brother bristled at their father’s demand.
“Yes, High Lord,” Eris replied, the words wet with his blood. “I see.”
Seemingly happy with Eris’s answer, Beron made his way towards his youngest son. Lucien tried not to flinch, but he knew he was unsuccessful as his mother’s grip tightened around his arm.
“I don’t want to hear about another lesson being skipped.” Beron said, calm once more, a forest fire no longer out of control, manageable.
“Yes, High Lord,” Lucien said, voice clear even though his heart was in his throat.
“Each one of my sons, more disappointing than the last,” he said, more to himself than to those in the large room.
Lucien tensed as Beron held out his arm, hand outstretched as he silently commanded the Lady of Autumn to come to him. Lucien watched as his mother quickly left his side, small fingers interlocking with his father’s much larger ones, covering the smattering of Eris’s blood on his palm.
Neither the Lord or Lady of Autumn looked back as they left the throne room, Lucien could not even guess where they might be going. As soon as the dark oak doors slammed behind his parents, Lucien breathed in deeply, shoulders slumping forward in relief.
Lucien’s relief was short-lived as he heard the snarl behind him.
“When will you learn to hold that tongue?”
Lucien turned his attention to Eris, watching as he angrily dragged the back of a pale hand across his face. Scarlet red, the blood smeared across his brother’s cheek, and Lucien quickly reached for the small handkerchief in his pocket.
Hands still shaking, Lucien made to pass the folded piece of fabric to his brother. When Eris didn’t immediately reach to take it, Lucien felt very badly that Eris had to shoulder a punishment clearly meant for him. Eris, as harsh and cold and careless as he so often was, happened to be Lucien’s favourite brother.
Lucien remembered how he’d pretend to fall asleep on the couches in his mother’s private library and wait for Eris to gently lift him and carry him back to his room. If Lucien was awake by the time Eris came to order him off to sleep, the Autumn heir wouldn’t do it. The Autumn Court was vicious, and even then, Lucien had heard the rumours of his eldest brother’s cruelty, but he couldn’t exactly be bothered to care, especially not when Eris was the only one of his brothers who held his hand whenever Lucien reached for it.
“I didn’t think–”
“You never think,” Eris snapped, cutting Lucien off right in the middle of his apology. “Such a lovely welcome back home.”
Lucien cringed, feeling absolutely dreadful. Eris had been gone two months, in one of the larger training camps near the spring border, and Lucien could imagine that Eris was not too pleased with him.
“I’m sorry, Eris, honestly,” Lucien tried again.
When Eris’s flaming eyes dimmed, returned back to their normal amber, he winnowed effortlessly next to Lucien, taking the handkerchief still between them with a defeated-sounding sigh. Lucien couldn’t help but lose a sigh of his own.
“Knowing when not to speak is a skill just as valuable as knowing when you should,” Eris offered in reply, scrubbing at the blood on his face.
“Right, yes, I know that,” Lucien said, nodding but knowing full well it would take him centuries to master the sort of self-control Eris possessed. “So sorry.”
“Stop apologising,” Eris mumbled. “And go back to your lessons.”
Lucien could not help himself as he quickly threw his arms around Eris, the hug stiff and uncomfortable for a moment before Eris awkwardly patted Lucien on the back. They were the same height now, Lucien noticed.
“Stay out of trouble,” Eris said finally, winnowing without a warning and leaving Lucien alone in the Autumn Court’s throne room.

HC+Pet (if she HAD to have one)
While Hannah never had a pet herself, she visited her sister Luo often after their Trial of Position, which Hannah passed, and Luo failed, flunking into the technician caste. Luo and her scientist-assigned partner had a cat.
Due to several valuable genes in the Lewis-Schmitt sibko of 3051, Luo was very swiftly matched with a freeborn partner by the Clan's eugenicists after dropping out, another technician named Evan, and they became fast friends and may have even experienced that freeborn phenomenon known as love. Luo was several months pregnant when the Star Adders began their bombardment of York, and neither she nor the cat survived.
After becoming a Star Commander, Hannah offered Evan a billet as a technician aboard the Agamemnon, but he refused.
